The story starts interestingly, but was quite a waste of even the little bit of time I put into it. Couldn't finish it There are grammatical issues and editing requirements on top of that. Good thing I got it for free. A story that will not make you feel like there's anything new in it, the writing is not even a bit exciting, things that should be mentioned in a line have been stretched.

Slow starter, but a decent read. Too many threads left hanging, Ya I know that there are more books in series, but to just end without SOME closure, I don't know if I can get myself to read the next one.

Selfish hero? Check. Immature characters? Check. Poor growth and development? Check.
Did I finish the book? No. I think I got less than 1/4 of the way through. Author's voice very hard to get through. And, not a book I want my older children to read.

I think the story is interesting enough, it just took extreme effort for me to finish. I think the dialog could vastly improve if there was more variance than "he stuttered" "she gawked" "he smirked" and a handful of other verbs that are constantly present, sometimes in situations that don't make sense. The underlying story though has potential, if you can get through it.

I finished it ONLY so I could find out the point. The editing was terrible and many of the characters were very annoying. In fact, the grandfather was the only character I enjoyed. The inner dialogue of the Nathan was exhausting. I understand that a sequel is being introduced but there were entirely too many questions.

This book was a little rough for me honestly to finish. It's filled with fairly empty character, and while at times the book went along smoothly it would also get rushed and especially toward the end it felt pretty much smashed together.

I started skimming around chapter 3 and stopped by chapter 4. The sentence structure and dialogue, internal and otherwise, were awkward and unnatural and often felt forced- making it difficult to read. I liked the premise, but poor execution detracted from the book's potential. I would not recommend.

This book interested me for a while, but I ended up wishing I were at the end instead of hoping it would go on if it were a good book. It was confusing and I only finished it because I hoped it would get better.

Linda Hickman: The first book "UGH" too many times!!!!. So many typo's it was distracting. Use of the wrong words :"I stampeded across the yard". You can't have a stampede of only one person. The story line is interesting. A little confusing going back & forth. I'm trying to finish the second book now.

Awkward sentence structure and several minor grammar errors throughout, and some unnecessary, extraneous scenes that should've been cut. Makes the book a slog to get through.

Also, the way the teenagers talk doesn't seem realistic or believable.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Starting with chapter one this book held my attention. The legends in the book told around the campfire gave me goose bumps and the supernatural creatures; necrocritters, dark hooded guards with swords and red hooded priests added a lot of layers to those story. Not to mention the Fallen Ones!

At times I wasnt sure how things would play out because there were so many challenges facing Nathan and his friends.

I really enjoyed the climax of the book and could easily see this book adapted as a movie.

I cant wait to see what's in store for Nathan and his friends...but you have to read the book to see if they all make it out. ;)

Disclosure: I received this book for an honest review. (Now that THAT is out of the way)

When I first started this book, it grabbed me. It was about a girl named Leah having visions and nightmares, and being thought crazy enough that her mother placed her in an institution for them after her dorm room was torn apart and what they thought were self inflicted wounds all over her.

Cut to Nathan, who is the caretaker's grandson. He and his grandfather Roy are helping the owners of the mansion (and consequently friends as well) get ready for LaFonda's (the granddaughter's) birthday party. He's also been having nightmares about Leah, altho he doesn't know who she is, but is drawn to. He finds out at the party that LaFonda used to be in the same dorm as Leah, and that they were friends.

Nathan, LaFonda, and various friends are Leadership Counselors at summer camp that just so happens to be located at the University where Leah had her breakdown.

The thing is....was not really caring for the way this story was put together. There was a bit of a disconnect on the way this story unfolded that had me lost in places. There was way too much conversation between the Counselors (ie purple hairbrush), and could have done without the gossip. I do believe that more could have been centered around the Cohokia Indians and the paranormal happenings.

The story felt really rushed at times, with some just accepting what was happening, and I feel that less conversation and more about the Firewalkers, Dreamwalkers, etc should have been explored.

I think perhaps I starting reading an entirely different book from everyone else as I seem to be one of the only people who not only couldn't finish this book, but really didn't like it.

Poorly written, desperately in need of editing and even though I got 1/3 of the way through it, I still had no idea what the central premise was or who the characters were.

I don't like writing bad reviews, but if I had had any idea of the issues with this book, I never would have picked it up to begin with.

R2R (LoP) The Legend of the Firewalker

I received a free copy, through LoP, in exchange for a review.

Nathan, just your regular college guy, is starting to have these strange images and dreams. Where hooded figures and clawed creatures are hurting people and he tries to help, but it's at that moment that he comes to. Then, there are the murders that are starting in his little hometown, that has everyone on edge. He's suppose to be a camp counselor this summer, at a local retreat, for other youth, but then, even more strange occurrence start to happen. Does it have anything to do with the new cave drawings that are being discovered, ones where they tell of a new story, one that it oddly similar to Nathan's images? Or is it all a coincidence, something having to do with his Native American background and the legends he knows little about.

'Abruptly, Jonas outlined the perimeter of the door with his index finger before stopping, palms out, towards the middle of the door.
Nathan squinted and slowly continued toward Jonas. “What is he doing?” he grumbled, Suddenly, his eyes grew wide and his mouth fell open. A blue light crept from Jonas' hand and engulfed the door in a blue light. “Jonas!” he cried out.
Jonas vanished through the door as if it weren't solid and Nathan went into hot pursuit behind him. He stopped at the foot of the illuminated door, closed his eyes and stepped through.'

I will have to say while some characters were a little off, overall it was a very entertaining story. The most interesting aspect of the story would have to be the origin(s) of the legends and how it shapes a person. I can't wait for the next story, to see where this goes!

The book starts off with Leah, her nightmares and being thought crazy by half the school. Leah is put in an institution after her room is torn apart and she was found with what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds all over her, and fighting off invisible foes.

After Leah, we are introduced to Nathan, who is the caretaker's grandson. He and his grandfather Roy live on the grounds of LaDonda’s estate. Nathan has been having nightmares about a girl being attacked. Whilst at LaFonda’s (LaDonda’s granddaughter) birthday party he finds out that LaFonda used to be in the same dorm as the girl he is possibly dreaming about. He wonders if it is possible to have nightmares about a girl you don’t know, and that she is friends with someone you do know?

The setting, a college campus surrounded by a forest, cliffs and eerie caves was a perfect backdrop for all the paranormal and creepy happenings. I liked the Native American legends, they were great, but I didn’t think the author went into enough details about the Firewalkers, Dreamwalkers, etc . I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. Hopefully all will be answered in book 2.

The plot was good, and it was original enough to keep me interested. I wanted to find out what was going on with all the characters.

The book is in need of some editing. Things like: He let out a stifled yawn as he 'set' up in bed. Also I did get a little confused at times as to what was speech and what were thoughts. I do hope the editing issues get sorted soon as this could be a really exciting read for lovers of this genre.

The beginning is good. Its about some guy that has nightmares, yadda yadda yadda yadda. Thats cool. (Except for the fact that I dont know if the main character is a girl or boy man or women because the dreams are really confusing me.) But than it gets boring and slow and than you really dont wan to read it. I couldnt finish reading it. Unless you really wanna be bummed out cuz you thought this is a good book cuz of all these people with crazy reviews and the cover, dont buy this. :( :o

Ever feel like you are going crazy? Hear voices, see things that aren't there (and no not schizophrenia), well the characters in this book do. But maybe they aren't the crazy ones.

This story is told from the point of view of two characters, jumping from one story to another until they crash into one another in style. Imagine dreaming of someone and then finding out it was all real.

This is a great story about magic, Indian folklore, and power. I give this story 3.5 out of 5 clouds.

This product or book may have been distributed for review; this in no way affects my opinions or reviews.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com and the Author.

I enjoyed this book. There was a lot going on with the plot: Leahs nightmares, the Locket, the Blue Light, the Caves, Nathans abilities, Malick, the mystery blue eyed dog. Even with all that was going on the book was easy to follow. I wasn't sure how all of these things were going to tie in but the author did a great job with this. I still have some unanswered questions which I am sure will be answered in the next book. I would highly recommend this book.

I am not always keen on YA books because so many I've seen use references and catchphrases that are not well-known or -understood by this old bag which is distracting. THIS book, however, is FABULOUS ( pun intended!)! What a story! It was a great introduction to a new mythology, and I am looking forward to following this series. I felt the surprise and discomfort Nathan had in discovering that his heritage was a part of him more than just the color of his skin or his financial circumstances. It was good to note
that that seemed to be an issue with no one but him, but gotta admit that construct seemed irrelevant because of that very lack. In the story there were no incidents for him to feel that way. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the expansion of the characters character traits and how they will all fit into the team to fulfil their destinies in this new mythology. Loved it!

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal).
I really liked this book. At first I was a little unsure, but I really got drawn into it and didn't want it to end.
I loved Nathan, and his sarcasm. I also loved the supernatural aspects of the book.
The writer is a very talented writer with a unique style.
I also thought the cover was awesome!
4 out of 5 stars!

I received this book for free from the Lovers of Paranormal group on Goodreads.com in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I had to stay up late last night to finish bc I just had to know what happened. Legend of the Firewalker captured my attention from page 1. All the characters are very interesting but my favorites are: Nathan- who just discovered he has powers and seeing how he developed those powers and the confidence in himself was great. Malick- who at the beginning made me mad but during book how he tried to help Nathan and had powers of his own and by getting over his macho complex grew up a lot and became a great friend to Nathan. Lafonda- she just cracked me up but I liked how she did care about Nathan. And Jonathan- I was getting very frustrated by his disappearing but I knew he was a good guy and as soon as I read what he could do, I was hooked.

I don't want to give anything away because this was truly a mesmerizing and suspenseful book and I think readers should find out for themselves by reading it. And I would like to mention that I so want to read book 2!

I received this book by the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!

The Legend of the Firewalker by Steve Bevil, is an extremely enthralling story that pulls you in from the very beginning! Leah is ending her freshman year in college, looking forward to a relaxing summer at home after a traumatic year. Nathan is a camp councilor with his best friend, Lafonda, at a summer leadership camp after their freshman year. At camp they meet several new friends to include the wickedly handsome Malick, easy going Jonas, and studious Jonathan. The six week camp reveals things to these friends they never thought possible.

"The dark may have its minions Nathan, but the righteous have their heroes."

"He told us he couldn't open the window for strangers, so he opened the front door instead."

"Because your laugh is how I always imagined it would be."

I extremely enjoyed this book. The way the author weaves together the Cahokia Indian folklore with the Bible and other known legends is fascinating. The characters are perfectly developed and likable. Nathan is a very compelling main character. I LOVED the ending! It is very satisfying and hooks you in to want more! Looking forward to the next book in the series!

I received a copy of this book for free for a fair and unbiased review

I thought this book overall was very good. The beginning of the book grabs you and makes you want to read more about Leah and her dream attacks. Then the books shifts focus to Nathan and that is where is lost some of its excitement. Even though he sees Leah in his dreams, I would have like to seen it flash back to Leah and what was happening with her. About half way it takes off again and i found myself wanting to know what was going to happen. It keeps you interested and guessing what is going on all the way to the end of the book. I definately would read the next book.

I downloaded the sample and am glad I did before buying this book.
The characters are bland and one dimensional.
I felt irritated at Leahs insecurities and found the attempt at building tension weak and forced.
The writing is poor and underdevelloped and the author constantly uses the name of the characters. This is also annoying i.e. Leah this Leah that Leah walks there Leah, Leah and later the same with Nathan.
I do not reccomend this at all as I could not even get through the sample without skipping lots of pages.

This book started off well enough. I was interested in Leah and what was happening to her, even though the rest of the charactes and their dialogue were cringe worthy. But after the focus switched to a different main character everything went downhill. The story was very slow to progress, the charcters ranged from tolerable to awful, and there were a lot of distracting grammatical errors. I had to stop halfway through, which I almost never do. At least it was free.

This was the first free book I've tried. I couldn't get past the first chapter. Almost every line of dialogue had a saidism: "he ranted," "she winked," "he uttered," instead of just saying "she said." Google "how to write dialogue" and the number one rule is "don't use saidisms unless you have to." Maybe I'm a grouch, maybe there were some brilliant parts of the book later on, but I like my authors to have the basics of fiction writing down.

This book was so so awful I couldnt even finish it! I thought it was weird the main character had so many out loud, unneccessay conversations with himself. And thats just the beginning. Dont waste your time on this one.

I routinely comb through the internet in search of good books for myself and family. I recently came across The Legend of the Firewalker and thought my son would enjoy it. (I'm sure other Mom's out there realize how difficult it can be to find a book that will hold a teenagers interest.) After reading the first couple of pages I found myself intrigued and decided to keep it for myself. Who doesn't love a good fantasy read that leaves you with goosebumps.?!?! ... I'll share this book with my son but not before I finish reading it first!

I just want to say the author was genius. Very intellectual and very hard working in his writing. You can tell the author put so much into this book and has such great potential for many novels to come! I am very excited to see what comes next!!!! HURRY AND MAKE ANOTHER:)

The author gave me an e-copy of this book for an honest review and as I suspected from the cover, it has all the makings of being a well-known fantasy novel.

The plot is intriguing and as soon as you think you’ve figured out what’s happening something else happens. I love the backdrop for the story and that the small college town is surrounded by a forest and caves.

The book was edited nicely and the backstory and legends were weaved in well with the teenage angst explored in the story.

If you want a supernatural world with characters that you can care about book after book, read the legend of the fire walker.

Within this novel Chapter One takes off like a bang, but after Chapter 8 is when the novel really sky rockets! i was quite impressed with the novel. it is a must read. i really did enjoy how the author gets you aquainted with the characters before the action really kicks into gear. If possible, does anyone know if there is a second book? or when the second book may be coming out? Please let me know as soon as possible.

Disclosure: I received this book for an honest review.

First, I read some of the reviews before reading this book and I thought it was well written. There may have been some minor errors but nothing distracting that I couldn’t enjoy the story.

Second, there is a lot of character building in the first half of the book. The first chapter starts off with a cliffhanger and then kicks off again around chapter 8. I enjoyed the down time in the beginning of the book and found myself caring more about Nathan and his friends.

Third and last, if you read this book fast you will miss out on a well-crafted story. You may read something that may seem non-essential to the story but will be an Ah-ha Moment at the end!

I did enjoy this book, however I felt like there was to much information on trival matters and not enough information on interesting stuff ie the Fallon ones, the powers and the story behind the powers. I felt it took to long in getting to the part where they found out about the powers they had and then there was hardly any information on who and what they are. I will read the next book and hopefully answers will be revealed

I am about a third of the way in like another reviewer and I am trying to find some reason to continue. Right now I only feel lucky that I was borrowing this book and not actually buying it. The characters are weak at this point. The setting is boring and it has no life. I do not know what book others are reading but it is not the same book I am reading.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal). This book wasn't for me. I might recommend it to kids in middle school, but that's about it. I had a really hard time finishing it. The fact that Nathan was actually talking to himself out loud, the juvenile banter, and the necrocritters, all combined to make for a very boring, drawn out book. To be honest, 2 stars was pushing it.

Suspenseful. Good characters. Kept the reader guessing throughout the book. Gradually told secrets throughout the story. With the pertinant secrets exposed by the end of the book. But with other secrets not told but with the idea that those secrets would be revealed eventually in more of continuing story.

This book is about a college freshman who happens to dream of a girl being attacked by shadow creatures. Nathan is an awkward, insecure man, who feels out of place. He doesn't know what he is or why he has a power. I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series.
