I TO HAVE NOT ONLY SEEN ABUSE BUT HAVE LIVED THE LIFE FIRST HAND AND CONTINUE TO SEE IT . HAVE TRIED TO HELP OTHER CHILDREN AND KNOW AGAIN FIRST HAND THE GOVERNMENT AGENCY'S DO NOT ALWAYS HELP IF ANYTHING MAKE MATTERS WORSE. ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTH WHERE I COME FROM. THE WORKERS ARE NOT QUALIFIED AS WELL AS POLITICS ARE INVOLVED I GAVE IT MY RATING BECAUSE THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS SERIOUS REFORM! YOU TALKED ABOUT HELPING THESE CHILDREN I REALLY FEEL THAT YOU DROPPED THE BALL WHEN IT CAME TO KEVIN. SORRY BUT YOU COULD HAVE REACHED OUT TO THIS BABY AND MADE A HUDGE DIFFERENCE! TALK ABOUT ICE WATER IN THE VAINES? BET YOU MADE A BUCK OR TWO WRITING HIS STORY, WHAT DID YOU DO FOR HIM WHEN YOU SAW THE SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING ? I say nothing.

This is much better than book one. The author doesn't constantly repeat herself as she did in the previous book. Attention to detail is amazing, I cried more than once because of poor Kevin. Thank you for writing this.

I cried when I read this. Everyone should read this and pass it on. The abuse I know is real and only our society can change things. I would like to thank the author for trying to bring this horror to the attention of the proper authorities. Without help the one who is abused becomes the abuser. Both parties need lots of psychological help. It is available. God bless Shannon and all who tried to help this family. [email protected]

I read the first book about Kevin earlier this year, it was very disturbing. Found this book by accident. So glad i did though. Shannon was /is the best nosiest neighbor out there, thank GOD. THOUGH WE KNOW where Kevin was in the last entry that poor baby boy will endure a lifetime of recovery. So sad that it was at the hands of his so called parents. I use that term loosely. Just hoping Ann stays away, Joe gets the he needs but more importantly, KEVIN STAYS SAFE. Thank you Shannon for such a heart-wrenching story. Hoping your family recovers and continues to be happy. Prayers for Kevin!!!!!!

Although I did finish the book it I'd not one I would recommend. It was slow and just a narrative of what went on next door. How did this daily abuse impact her children and husband? Not enough variety in what was going on like weather, events around the area and more description of the characters.

while reading this story I became very tired ,I felt like I was next door to this family and losing sleep, and the same thing over and over , I realize these things happen more than we know but this story should have had other things going on (the author did say she added a few things) I felt sorry for the young boy .

I read this book because I enjoy true stories, mostly crime, but it was a good choice. It was very upsetting to read what Kevin went through, hopefully he is recovery well.
Hopefully some law's will be changed when it involves helping abused children. Something really does need changing in our legal system.

If you really cared about Kevin, why didn't you take him into your home? Especially during the abusive times? It also seems to me if you were trying to be the responsible one, you would have shown Kevin how a real family was like not be just another nosey neighbor thinking she is trying to help. I think you dropped the ball for him also. After a whole year- Shame on you!

Parents live in fear of neighbors like this author who know everything about everyone and always calling the cops and landlord on them. I had my suspicions with the 1st book, but reading this confirmed them. Don't recommend and all parents should be on the look out for their local busybody.

I love that Kevin is now living a healthy life with as normal a family as he can get. this is a few of the times the system really comes in handy. Kevin's situation is one of the worst I've heard so far, but at least there's a happy ending for him. that's all I wanted. it's a shame people have children they don't even want.

As a child of abuse I find your books absolutely appalling. You claimed your hands were tied most of the time but the truth of the matter was the whole situation was just a inconvenience to you. There was so much more you could have done. It's disgusting how you chose to profit off of this rather than actually f'ng March down to the dcfs Office and demand justice for that child. I would rather look like a fool than live with a guilty conscious knowing he was being hurt for over a year. Shame on you. That boy will live with this for the rest of his life and all of you were complicit. That poor child needed help and not one of you capable adults came through. You could have walked over and intervened until Police arrived. Cowards. All of you. Well enough to profit off his story blind enough to turn on him when he lived in filth and had swollen eyes and screamed out in pain. F'ng cowards.
