Really enjoyed Max's experience in 1399 St. Mary's. Many answers later arrive and were so brilliantly simple readers should feel like we need to slap ourselves on the side of the head. Good setup for the next book. I look forward to Max's own hunt.

I must admit I did not finish the previous St.Mary's book, because it was just too gloomy. I welcomed Book 9 with relief, as a come back to all these things which hooked me to St.Mary's Chronic
Es in the first place.

As with all of her other volumes of the Chronicles of St Mary's, Jodi Taylor has come through again with another amazing blockbuster tale of action and adventure guaranteed to keep you reading and wanting more.

I found this one to be the most emotionally stressful book in the series (including "Christmas Past"). About a third of the way through I found myself wishing Ms. Taylor would just kill-off Ronan, and by the end I felt like I'd been through the wringer. Maybe it's just Max developing into a more well-rounded character. (But maybe I'm just a wimp.) As with all of this series, the book is well written and, if you're a fan of time-travel stories (as opposed to time-travel itself, of course), well-worth the purchase price. (A note on why I only gave this 4 stars instead of five. So far, I have read all of the books on Kindle. This is the first time in the series that I noticed multiple typos. Poor editing and proof-reading are things I've learned to accept as the price of getting books that are self-published or published by small presses. As I said, this is the first time I have seen them in this series, and I hope it will be corrected in the future. If not for that I would have given it five stars, even with the angst.)

This was a fantastic book! Wow. Read it in 1-1/2 days (and it's a long book!). I stayed up late to finish it, just could not go to sleep without knowing the end. What a ride! Loved it. Interestingly enough, I really thought I wasn't going to like it. It started out just like all the others and I thought, okay, just the same formulaic story -- craziness abounding at St. Marys. You read one, you've read them all. But then...ah, it took off at a gallop (unlike the yellow horse... ;-) and I hung on for the ride.

I did think, however, that the part with her in 1399 was going to be too long and tedious. I actually flipped through pages to see when it ended and she went back to her time. But then it really got interesting and engrossing. Ms. Taylor sure knows how to tell a good story. The time and the people came alive for me (loved William of course)!

She is such a wonderful storyteller and writer. I think this may have been my favorite book of all! I know some people are tired of Ronan, but you have to have something like that to drive the action. He wasn't really in it that much, but he sure set the action in motion! I think I may actually go back to the first book and read them all again. Maybe by that time Ms. Taylor will have released #10!!!

These people really, really underestimate Ronan! Like he was really going to walk into a completely empty St. Mary's and think.... "oh, what luck, everyone is gone. Now's my chance." I mean, really? Even without his insider information, I doubt he would do that.

The traitor really threw me for a loop. Didn't see that one coming. Great ending (although not really an "ending", but we are all planning on buying the next one anyway, right? ;-)

Jodi Taylor's ability to create engaging and interesting characters in intriguing historical situations is on showcase in this installment. Of course we all love the intrepid St. Mary's crew, but in this book she carefully constructs the lives and characters of St. Mary's in 1399 AD and drops Max there for an extended stay. I enjoyed it so much I was actually sorry to see Max return to her own time. I'm guessing that Max's adventures in 1399 St. Mary's is in response to Outlander's time travelling romance and I think Ms. Taylor's version compares favorably. To all St. Mary's fans, you won't be disappointed by this installment. To all who have not yet experienced the wonderful, madcap St. Mary's crew as they investigate historical events, please read the books in order as it will greatly enhance your enjoyment of this terrific series.

Jodi Taylor never fails to deliver! I fell in love with this series when the first book came out and have waited with breathless anticipation for the each installment.

Read this series. Devour each in turn and don't skip the short stories. They are all well worth your time and Audible credits. Zara is the perfect and wonderful reader of all.

SPOILER ALERT!! There is a twist I NEVER saw coming, and one hell of a cliffhanger. I actually screamed at my ipod.

This is another fantastic episode in the St Mary's series. The narrator is terrific for the audio version, and the story carries you along. From Persepholis to the early Middle Ages, Max is confronted with the typical St Mary's catastrophes, handled with her usual aplomb! This story has an added twist: Max becomes stranded in another time, and for once, her chances of rescue are slim to none. Instead of giving up, she manages to survive. How she does it takes up most of this fascinating tale. Highly reccommended!

So glad a friend suggested this time travel series. Each book is as good as the first and you literally cant put them down. The writers enthusiasm for the major events of world history is contagious.! Keep the books coming Jodi Taylor!

No one does twisted adventure like Dr. Maxwell and St Mary's. The plotting continues to finally capture Clive Ronan. Unforseen circumstances become Max's touching story of survival. And an ending that just gets more twisted. Good stuff!!

LOVE the entire series! In fact, when the next one in the series comes out, I have to reread them all to keep absolutely up-to-date! Is it necessary? Not at all. Is it fun and worthwhile? You betcha!

This whole series has been a grand adventure. Jodi Taylor has a sense of the dramatic and a wicked sense of humor. I’ve read everything she’s written so far and can hardly wait for the next whatever she writes.

I rarely review books other than to give them stars. I am a bit conflicted about this book. I have enjoyed the series quite a lot, but the abrupt ending of this installment is a bit off putting. How hard is it to find that one man? It was hard to accept the death of one of my favorite characters in a previous book. The disposition of Matthew is less than satisfying. But seriously, catch that evil time traveler and find a new sinister evil force. At this point it is like he has god like powers, since no one can seem to find him including the time police who seem to show up everywhere but where Ronin is. I usually don’t mind a cliff hanger but this one was abrupt. The story just stopped and the “thank-you for listening to audible” line played. The book feels half finished and I don’t have the satisfied feeling I normally have when completing a book. Zara Ramm is, as usual, a wonderful narrator.

What ho, indeed!

Book Nine grabs you by the lapels and never lets go! Talk about a page-turner! You'll laugh, you'll cry, but most of all you will totally enjoy this book!

(By the by, the plural of crow is a murder of crows. Turns out that the plural of historian is an argumentation of historians!)

A feast for longtime readers.

Yes, I suppose one could start with Book Nine but I strongly recommend reading the earlier eight books first!

Can't wait for book ten!

(And much thanks to the author for the short stories in between to tide us loyal readers over!)

Well I was frustrated by the ending but I know we’ll find out more in the next book. Hope it comes out soon. Maxwell and Leon are recovering from the pod explosion that happened in book 8 but Clive Ronan is still lose and causing trouble. Where is he? I listened to the book in audible and Zara Ramm is Max. She is the saving grace from some of the stuff that happens in this book. I mean getting stuck in 15th Century St. Mlary’s For a year only to return to find out you’ve been gone only a week. All’s well that ends well. What’s next? Be sure you start with book 1 because you’ll be hopelessly lost unless you meet these quirky characters at the beginning. Historical time travel is amazing!

I thoroughly enjoy these books. They're well written and so entertaining. My only problem is that I'd have liked to share them with my older brother, who loved things about history, but sadly, he's no longer with us. I have to find someone else to share them with while I wait for the next installment. Wish St. Mary's was a real place so I could visit and meet these wonderful characters. Thank You!

No! No no no !
I have been listening and reading ( simultaneously) now for 2 + months almost everyday!
This has been my go-to for pure enjoyment and has become my family--the family I really always wanted and didn't know until I met them. Belly-laughing out loud and blubbering unashamedly and holding my breath. The best time I've had in several years.
Now back to Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology and Chemistry and tutoring and training others to be SI Leaders...how mundane ....
Hurry.
Bring Max and them back.
