R. A. Salvatore creates another science fiction classic in his release of The Demon Awakens. Elbryan Wyndon's hometown of Dundalis is destroyed by a raid of goblins and fomorian giants. He believes he is the only survivor, and is taken in by elves for physical and mental training to become the next ranger, and protect the people in of the area. Little does he know that his love, Jilseponie, had also survived the raid and made a new life with the Coastpoint Guards, despite her memory loss of her childhood. Their paths cross along with Avelyn, a monk from the Abellican church who is trained in the use of the sacred gems; Bradwarden, a powerful centaur that resides in the forest near Dundalis; and the trapper crew of Paulson, Chipmunk, and Cric. Together they set out to confront the dactyl, the evil demon that has brought together the goblins, giants, and the bloodthirsty powries to form an unstoppable army that threatens the peace of the world. This is a great read for anybody, I like how there are many main characters developed and the action of the story is amazing. Science Fiction fans will love this book especially.

This book provides an extremely compelling story written on the individual experiences of three characters. While they all meet up eventually, Salvatore continues to demonstrate the story from each individual's perspective, rather then combine them into the views of one collective party. Personally I believe that while Elbryan is the "main" character, the story is about all three of the characters, and does not center on any one real individual. All in all, I believe this book to be worth the tremendous undertaking any 600 page book offers. Expect a few weeks of strong, compelling reading. Definitely an extremely well-written novel, worth any fantasy readers time.

This books is, without a doubt, the best book I have read since the Lord of the Rings. Salvatore has created a unique world that I can't wait to revisit in The Demon Spirit. I was sad to finish this book, because I find it hard to believe that any of the other DemonWars books will be able to top it. Unlike his Forgotten Realms stories, Salvatore has complete control over these books, making him able to kill off any character he feels needs to be killed off. It adds a great deal of realism to the novel, making the reader feel like these are real people, with real problems.

I won't be surprised if these books are someday placed right next to the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Chronicles of Narnia as the greatest fantasy tales ever told.

This book is a perfact example of Salvatore's talent as a writer. "The Demon Awakens" is probably the best book I have ever read. It has fast paced action. The character development is ingenius, while the plot is very captivating. It is not to be missed

Anyone that has read R.A. Salvatore should know that this is an early work.
Certianly a direction that he took that he could not have with his Forgotten Realms characters.
This was a fine read, and I enjoyed many facets of the universe, except probably the magic system.
Certianly a series of books you should enjoy as another branch of my favorite author.

Salvatore finally broke free from his Crimson Shadow Genre and wrote a stunning piece of literature. The way the three characters develop individually over what appears to be something like seven or eight years and then mesh together amazed me. Although I believe the Demon Dactyl could have been developed on. I know, it sounds odd, but literature is just more fun when the bad guy isn't mean just because that's his job, but because he has a reason to be. Overall, though, the book was an excellent read, and I'm sure Salvatore fans will agree.

The Demon Awakens covers as much ground as most trilogies. Several characters have the time to develop from novice to kick-butt master.
Salvatore also creates a new system for magic that is pretty interesting. The prose was really good, too.
This was a great book, and I'd definitely recommend it to people who like fantasy.

This is one of the best books i've read. You will always remember the characters. The action and adventure makes you one of the characters. They need to make a movie on one of Salvatore's books, especially the Crimson Shadow Series.

Salvatore begins this series with an excellent book. In my opinion it's the best one. They get "worse" as you go, but this one is excellent. Being an R.A. Salvatore fan my opinion is bias, however the characters in this book are among the best he has written. Though you will see a lot of Drizzt in Elbryan, and a lot of Catti-brie in Pony. Come to think of it, there is a lot of Breunor in Bradwarden as well. Anyway, the characters are excellent, and the only real problem I have with the series is the removal of Avelyn way too soon. Thus my feelings that this one is the best. :)

This is most definately one of the best books I have ever read! This is an epic fantasy where Elbryan and his best friend, and later on his lover Jilesponie, and their friend Avylen battle against the forces of the evil Demon Dactyl Bestesbulzibar, after his armies destroyed his, and hometown killing everyone in the town except them. A must read for all people over thirteen and who can read english, don't forget to read all the other books in the series!

Being book one of the First Demonwars Trilogy, this book starts a 7 book cycle of the best series I've ever read. Salvatore sets up his own world in grand style with his trademark battle scenes, but something more. He give us charecters who are flawed, yet more human than anything I've seen before. THe good guys are not all good, nor are the bad one's neccisarily all bad. The depth of the charecters and detail of the world are striking and powerful. I can't recommend this one enough.

This is the best Salvatore book outside of the Forgotten Realms books of his that I have read. The characters are much deeper than in some of his other books, like Luthien Bedwyr. Elbryan has a very Drizzt like apeal. Not up to the Dark Elf standard I have for Salvatore, but much better than some of his other books.

I loved this book for a lot of reasons. One thing i liked about this story is how it took the three main charactors (pony, elbryan and avelyn) and told all three of their stories before bringing them together towards the 3/4 mark. All the charactors were well developed and secondary charactors like Bradwarden the centaur had a special spark to them, and were not just filler charactors. The PLot made sense and was cohesive throughout the book. So another hit for Salvatore

At first, i didn't think i would like this book, but i finish all books i start so i kept reading. as it turned out, this was the best book i have ever read. That was like a year ago. Even today, its still the best book i have ever read. It is by far my favorite. The characters feel so real, they are very well developed and have very deep personalities. The plot is also very good. And the ending is great. Its real life. R.A. Salvatore is a very great author.

I first read "The Demon Awakens when I was in 6th grade in 1998. I recently received a Kindle from my work after a performance review and this is the first book I got for it. I loved reading this book again, took me back to simpler times in life. I am looking forward to reading it to my son one day.

THis book was great. No kidding and the book earns everyone of those five stars I gave it. If you enjoy fantasy or even have the slightest interest in it then I suggest you check out this book and the numerous others that RA Salvatore has written. This was the first RA salvatore book I read and I read it a while back but it has stuck with me. The whole demon wars trilogy is fantastic. Not the usual sluggishness that comes with some trilogies but stays fresh the whole way through. I was very impressed with salvatore and I'll certainly be looking more his way the next time I want a great fantasy read. The characters weren't weak but well thought out and even minor characters came through well. The story was fast, interesting, and the detail to action let me see it as if on the big screen. I think Salvatore writes for Jon Woo on the side but seriously the bottom line is to go buy this book as soon as you finish reading this. Why are you still here reading this! Go now!

This book was very possible the worst thing written since anything by Danielle Steele. I have tried to read this book 5 times made it through the last time, wish I would have just read the back of a cereal box instead. Salvatore...what in the world were you thinking?? Please end this series here you are destroying minds with books like this.

Love this series of books. Reading it for the 4th or 5th time but this is the 1st time in several years. The characters are amazing, the story line is very original. I've read some of RA Salvatore's contributions to the D@D franchise and they are well written but limited by the universe that is D@D. This story is all his and I personally put it up there with the all time greats.
