Loved the characters in this series!! The world's I visited in these books were fantastic!! So sad when it was over!! I felt like the ending left alot unanswered!! What happened to Terry? What happened to Lena? Did Mei and John have kids? That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5!!

I've read all of the Variant Saga books and loved them! Each story flows into the next flawlessly! I couldn't put the books down! A really interesting mix of science fiction, futuristic, drama. I love how you are introduced to the characters and how I became involved and attached to them. None of these books were predictable at all! I can't say enough how intriguing these stories are!

I was visiting my son when I began this series and I remember telling him that I didn't know if I was going to be able to read it if it didn't pickup...the next thing I know, I downloaded the 4 book series, and never put it down.

This story was such an excellent twist on the typical dystopian story! It's not zombies and it's not even about living through it...no spoilers, but if you're a fan of dystopian fiction you will definitely want to add this to your collection.

I was spellbound by this book. I could imagine a mysterious gas covering our world causing all kinds of mutations throughout all of the life forms that we are familiar with. Awesome book, kept me on the edge of my seat.

This is a great series! Reminiscent of Ender's Game (which is a big compliment!). The characters are well- developed & likeable, the tension of situations is very real as you read. I loved the whole thing & will definitely read it again!

I was hooked from the beginning chapter. A well written and fascinating read. I was sad to finish the final book in the series. It would be great if the author decided to write another book in this series.

This book was very well written and is amazingly detailed. I liked the worlds Chaney created and the clarity with which I could visualize the scenes described. I also luked that almost all of my questions were answered by the end of the series. I rated this series a 4 instaed of 5 only because there were tumes (not many) when the action or reactions of the characters seemed forced to me. Other than that, it was an excellent read and I'd highly recommend it.

Maybe I started in reverse, but I read the renegade series first as loved them all. The same is true with this series. All I can say is more, more, more! The storyline while set in the future is incredibly believable and the characters jump out of the page. Chaney really gets you hooked on them and it really feels like you know them personally. Love the story, love the writing, and am left wanting more!

I have read the first 3 in the series and can't wait to read the 4th...I have been cheering on John and Mei while looking for Terry only to keep missing him! I hope in the last book they are reunited....I cant wait!!!

I have just recently been able to read books, after a several year hiatus. I have been struggling to find authors who can take you into the story; ones who are consistent in details; and ones where the editing is good enough to not drive you nuts. JN Chaney has accomplished there things/ I am looking forward to reading more from him.

This series has a fairly solid foundation story-arc wise, but it shows exactly why a good editor is so important in producing quality work.

It kind of blows my mind that this guy has a master's in creative writing, because the quality level of the dialog and action is REALLY lacking. Certain phrases ("lording over", "giving him pause", "the hell was that?") are used over and over again, frequently to detrimental effect. Action scenes are clinical, boring, and unbelievable. A lot of dialog is stilted and unnatural, and occasionally characters will say or do something that's in COMPLETE opposition to everything we've been told about them up until that point.

Honestly, it was so bad that I started highlighting particularly egregious pages and adding notes as if I were the editor, and despite getting tired of constantly highlighting and commenting and thus skipping large parts, still wound up with almost 400 notes on things that need to be improved.

There are also a couple of really glaring issues science-wise, like the fact that "variant" is supposedly a chemical catalyst. Catalysts, no matter how complex, do not do the things variant does, and you cannot make a generic hybrid with living creature and a catalyst. If anything, make it a virus!

I've shared my notes and highlights to Good Reads, so if you want examples of what I'm talking about, you should be able to find them there.

Absolutely great read gritty and funny it is sometimes hard to think they are only children. Recommend to anyone who likes this genre and if you are looking for a new style or subject to try this is it. Hard to put down once I started.

Gripping. Complex. Dubiously ethical human experimentation in the name of saving humanity. Sinister political manipulations. The Jolt, the storm that brought about the end of the world, still shrouded in mystery even at the end of the book. I definitely want to read the rest of the Variant Saga, find out what happened to Terry and how the remainder of humanity continues to seek their own survival in various ways.

I read the entire saga and remain disappointed.

Terry was a great character but all the stories summed up a little on the juvenile side.

How ever I loved the concept and the thought concept. But to much was left to my imagination.

Loved this novel. Sci-fi is my favorite genre. The underground city is very believable, and the struggle of the human race to "emerge" again to the surface is symbolic of mankind's desire for freedom.

Great characterisation, I found myself completely enthralled and just had to keep reading, a new author to me but one I shall be watching for in future, I like to keep some books that I enjoy very much to read again, and this set has got itself a special place in my favourite reads, hope there is more to come in this saga!

Really enjoyed this Saga. Empathised with the characters and really thought of them as friends that I knew. I applaud the author in creating a believable world and was sorry to reach the end of the adventure.

I started this series some time ago and reading the last book feels like the end of the journey. An author who can start out with the seed of an idea and grow it into a world that is so foreign to what we know, is indeed a master storyteller. The characters are well thought out and have depth. It amazes me that Mr Chaney had each character and world so complete that I could easily visualize each one.Prepare yourself for a great read that is full of interesting and new ideas.

JN Chaney is a new writer for me. I bought the whole series but the first book made me doubt my choice. I kept on and then the story became more than interesting. It kept me late at night because I wanted to see what was coming next. The whole concept of the story was very good and the execution excellent. The characters kept developing and the descriptions of the environment very imaginative. The presentation of the chapters
was clever and the quotations at the beginning of every book show that the writer knew what he was writing about.
I recommend it to anyone who loves a good adventure combined with lots of plausible scifi.

Thank you for your time and imagination in writing this series. The characters are unbelievably good and the storyline is engaging. I did not want to stop reading, but it still consumed me over 3 1/2 days. I was so glad I had the boxed set, so I could go right to the next book. One theme keep going thru my mind as I continued to read, what if we as humans sought non-lethal ways to wage wars or remove threats to our safety? What if.........?. Thank you, Danny Scott.

Amazing story, superhero-like characters! I really liked the author's attention to scientific detail allowing my mind to accept the unbelievable. This saga is so all-encompassing it doesn't fit neatly into just one genre. Dystopian/Fantasy/Sci-fi/Futeristic, whichever catagory you would like to assign is worthy. Just don't miss this! A story as memorable as Huck Finn, exciting as Superman, and as captivating as Chronicals of Narnia will not soon be forgotten!

This was a truly captivating, suspenseful series. It sucked me in to the point where the villains were really making me angry with their treachery. However, the one negative comment I have is that the author or the publisher was leaving large gaps after every few lines so the actual pages of content were a lot less then the page count.
