This is a fun book, but really seems only to have been written for people who are already fans of Mamrie and does nothing to broaden her audience. I imagine anyone who picks up this book without knowing anything about her would be quite turned off.

As a fan though, I enjoyed it.

How can you now love a book written by Mamrie Hart? Seriously! I really loved this book. It was everything you wanted it to be and more. It's funny just flat out funny. You hear Mamrie's voice through out the entire book. Alabama Blizzard was without a doubt my favorite chapter. I have never had to stop reading to compose myself after laughing. So in conclusion, just get this book and read it. You will love it! BONUS, BUILT IN DRINKING GAME!

MAMRIE WINS! It only took a quick 10 pages for me to get hooked. When I say it was funny, I mean laugh out loud funny. There were times when I had to put the book down and walk away because I was laughing so hard. I'm not sure if it's because I relate to these stories (I know what a first night as a New York City resident is like!) or if they truly are hilarious. Probably a little bit of both.

Perhaps what I loved most is that I got to see a side of Mamrie that isn't always shown in her videos. We all know how hilarious and quick witted she is but it was great seeing her sweet side. She offers some pretty solid advice and classic "moral of the story" elements that really brought the whole book together.

Buy this book. Read it. Love it. Read it again. I can't wait for a second book although I imagine it would be pretty hard to outdo this one!

You Deserve A Drink...and so do I...I kidd I kidd with you! This book is definitely one of those types of books where you decide to buy it and you decide to read it and then you decide to live life and buy a rescue animal at the local SPCA! I am one of these types, an alcoholic, but the family is too afraid to say anything in fear they will not be in the damn will! Who can blame them? I do! It's really a give and take situation and I'm not talking about my ex wife, but I am talking about my ex husband #Equality Mamrie Hart will have you in stitches...better seek medical advice because it can be fatal! I found her unique take on life's anecdotes to be quite on point and comical in a way that only those privy to inside joke would be aware! If you are blessed to get this book; I will guarantee you'll love, but if you don't, come back here and I'll be sure to give you a pep talk and discuss Tyler Oakley's Binge book, which I may have pre-ordered a few after trying out the recipes in Mamrie's book! I'm drunk now, shhhh the store has standards and Prime Day proved it!!! Back to my review on Mamrie's book, it's a 5 Star book living in a 4 Star world...that's how good it is! You'll laugh, you'll cry (from laughter), you'll question Gods existence and not in a bad way, but in a way that's like...why God am I not as funny? Then when he answers with a drought on California, you realize to never question him ever again! Buy this book, you won't regret and the cool thing is...you can always resale it, am I right ladies?

This book exceeded my high expectations and then some! Finished it in two days time-- didn't even rush through it, I was just so genuinely enthralled, the pages seemed to turn (or, since I read this on my Nook, "swiped'), themselves. I have been a fan of Mamrie's for several years, having since the start of it, seen nearly every video of her hilarious YouTube series "You Deserve A Drink," aptly the same (and fitting) title of this memoir, as well as numerous other videos she appears in on YouTube, and her guest appearances on Comedy Central. After reading this memoir, Mamrie's video's only scratch the surface of this comedian's brevity and wit, as well as her genuine sincerity and good-hearted nature. One doesn't even need to be very familiar with her work to instantly fall in love with her, not matter what medium she is present in.
Each chapter begins with a recipe to a drink crafted and named by the author herself (I plan on making several of them in the future), followed by tales of moments in her life that fit the theme of the title/drink name. The book also has a built in drinking game (for those over 21), as mentioned in its introduction. A word to the wise: If you plan on playing it, sip conservatively, or play it one chapter at a time/ take a break between chapters. I started to play it (with no game plan involved), but had to stop after the first thirty pages because: 1. I was laughing too hard, making it hard to drink, and 2. I was already catching a buzz (with 200 pages still to go), and I'm no lightweight.
Each chapter offers incite into some of the life and times of this comedian, all the way from her childhood and adolescence in nowhere, North Carolina, to her college years at Chapel Hill, adulthood in NYC, and crazy times in Georgia, Florida, Mexico, and Las Vegas. Having personally lived in North Carolina my entire life, and traveled to nearly all the places she mentions in the book besides the town she grew up in (but I've seen others in the state just like it), I can attest her descriptions are farther an accurate. But even if you've never been to any of the places she talks about, Mamrie's fantastic story telling makes you feel like you have.
I laughed beyond consistently throughout this book. Several times I had pure tears coming out of my eyes, and/or, my hands covering my mouth to stop myself from saying "Oh. My God." out loud.
Mamrie is so naturally clever and so good at setting the scene of each tale, making each feel like you're just listening to/having a great conversation with a best friend. Things can get bawdy to those not used to her humor, but her tone is so natural, nothing appears forced. Solid advice is also woven throughout (without getting preachy), but Mamrie makes it clear she did not write this book with the intention to help the masses, so take from it what you will. It is NOT like one of her best friend's book, aka, Grace Helbig's "Graces Guide," whose aim was to be a self-help book/memoir-- but never the less, Mamrie has some helpful tips and life lessons nearly anyone can learn from, mixed in.
Overall, I would 100% recommend this book. I've read a dozen or so comedian memiors, and this one stands strong to (and is maybe even better than) some of the best of them.
Before reading it, if you're not familiar with her work, don't be afraid to look her up on YouTube, see tidbits of what you've been missing all these years, then grab this book, sit back, relax, and prepare to laugh and be entertained by one of the funniest comedians of the internet, Ms. Mamrie Hart.

I received this book in a Penguin Random House contest. I had not heard of Mamrie Hart, so I had no idea what to expect. I would have to rate the book as very crude, crude and other places not crude. In some places it was extremely funny - laugh out loud funny. I won't be following M Hart, but her book was interesting. I would not recommend this book unless you are a follower of M Hart.

Mamrie has been my favorite YouTuber since the second I started watching her videos. Her humor, and her drinks, made me come back for more every week (including rewatching every video several times). When I found out she was releasing a book I was ecstatic. If her videos were any indication, this book was going to leave me in tears from laughter. And boy did it live up to that expectation, and then some.
I actually began reading YDAD while in line to meet Mamrie herself at Barnes and Noble. The only reason I stopped reading was because I was next in line to be in the presence of this beyond amazing human being. Seriously though, Mamrie was the nicest person I have ever met and so easy to talk to and joke with. Thank you, Mamrie.
The stories were so incredibly funny I did not want to stop reading. But on top of the debauchery, her writing is so real. I can hear her voice as I read each page, which showed how true to Mamrie the writing was. You can tell Mamrie has a lot of writing experience under her belt (or green jumpsuit) which includes her film Camp Takota (which I also highly recommend). The stories are so well written, it is very easy to vividly see everything she is writing about (and I mean everything).
I will certainly be reading YDAD many more times, on top of recommending it to everyone I know. Whether you've seen her videos or not, you will love this book. And then go watch all of her videos to see what you've been missing out on.
I am so proud to be a fan of this immensely talented, and hilarious, person. And I hope to read more crazy stories in the future (especially more lost contact stories *wink wink*)
P.S My dog, Monte, also enjoyed YDAD. He's got a big crush on Beans!

Mamrie has a way with words - somehow saying the snarky or inappropriate thing we’re all thinking, but too timid to say aloud. Timid is not an adjective in Mamrie’s world. This book was a fun, fast read peppered with very appealing cocktail recipes along the way. I enjoyed it and I plan to red her second book as well.

While her YouTube videos are cocktail themed, I have a feeling she is popular with the teenage crowd. This book is raunchy in a fun way, but maybe not 100% suitable for those under 18.

I got this book to support Mamrie, because I've been following her YouTube channel for years. Unfortunately, it was just another disappointing YouTuber book. I don't recommend it if you don't already love her, and even if you do, you're better off sticking to her (free) online content. This book could have benefited from a good editor, fewer inside jokes, less repetition, and a stronger voice. Even though I know she worked on it for a while, it felt hastily thrown together--like a book for a book's sake and not because she had anything particularly interesting to say. I won't be buying the next one. Sorry Mametown.

I absolutely loved this book! I've been a fan of Mamrie's YouTube channel for about two years now, and this book was an amazing transition of her comedy into an extended, personal setting. Her jokes translated so well to the page, and I was laughing out loud through many of the chapters. My favorite had to be "piña colon-a", during which I had to stop reading in public because laughing out loud alone in Starbucks was too embarrassing.
Even if you've never watched her on YouTube, I would highly recommend this book. It's funny, it's genuine, and it's got a good dose of girl power.

Never heard of her.
Saw this on the shelf of "Latest Buys" at a busy used bookstore and it looked like fun. Grabbed it to read during a 300-mile roadtrip (across NC, hey!)
Every page made me snort over something. My driver demanded I read the best bits aloud. Excellent way to pass the time. So sorry she hasn't written more. I'll start following her on youtube and I'll be preordering her next book whenever that is.

To start, I preordered the book here to give to my mom for Mother's Day. I bought the book in the store for myself the day it was released. I also read all 271 pages that same day! Mamrie's writing style is witty and thoughtful. I loved every page of that book, and I can't wait to read it a 2nd and 3rd (and possibly a 4th) time! My mother recently started reading her copy and she had to put it down to get ready for my graduation; but she can't wait to finish it either! Keep it up Mametown!

I pre-ordered two copies of this book. One for my sister's birthday and one for my best friend. I've watched Mamrie on YouTube for a few years and love her sarcastic humor. I know so many YouTube stars have been getting book deals but I love that Mamrie wrote this herself. I meant to send my sister her copy but before I could I had to read it for myself and finished it in less than in a day.
I spent most of the book in tears from laughter. I actually had to stop reading it when I was at a local coffee shop because of the strange looks I was receiving. This is the most hilarious book I've ever read and I've read Poehler's, Feys, and Kaling's recent works (which were all great). It reminds me of one of my favorite books by David Sedaris, "Me Talk Pretty One Day." Absolute genius. Her brand of humor reaches a wide audience and her life stories are shockingly relatable. I am already buying a few more copies for other friends and will recommend this book to anyone. It will be the best few dollars you spend all year.
Hopefully this book is a giant stepping stone in Mamrie's career that she rightfully deserves. More people need to know her name and I can't wait for the next one.

This book is a lot of fun! It has great drink recipes included at the beginning of each chapter, so it's also a recipe book! Mamrie Hart cracked me up numerous times with accounts of her life thus far, and I've recommended the book to the ladies in my life who need a good laugh. The book I read prior to this one was a huge downer, so I'm grateful for this book to put me in a great mood. I'd say if you're not enjoying the book a few chapters in, then it's not for you... and why aren't you enjoying it?? It's a delight!

I know of Mamrie from YouTube and love her wit so of course I wanted to read her book. She did not disappoint. Her voice and her character are palpable throughout the book and I love the way she tells a story. I was laughing out loud on several occasions and I wished my life was this exciting. A great read.

Although the book doesn't really have a real strong thread intertwining the stories it was a fun ride from front to back. It was as though you were sitting with a friend on a couch at night and talking about your worst (funniest) moments. Mamrie's writing is top notch and somehow manages to have perfect delivery, her asides just add to the humor as well. I'm really hoping she continues to write and share more of her stories and humor with us all.

This book is amazing! I've lost count the amount of times I had to stop reading to run to the bathroom so I don't pee my pants. PLEASE make an audible version. It's a lot like Mamrie's web series "You Deserve a Drink" and has a built in drinking game and recipes for some great looking drinks. Plus, it's given me some great ideas to actually LIVE my life instead of being a hermit and afraid of people. I need to take life by the balls like Mamrie Hart does and have a fun time. But it's full of laughs and positive energy. What is not to love about this book?

I fell into YDAD (or You Deserve a Drink for those who don't speak Mametown) when on a YouTube spree ages ago and have been waiting not so patiently for this book to come out. I adore Mamrie; her sense of humor, her honesty and her total bad-assery in owning who she is. This book gave me insight more into this amazing person and I can't wait to read more from her in the future! Hilarious and honest read about growing up in a small town and taking on the world, all with a cocktail in hand. The stories are well chosen and had me laughing hysterically imaging her in these circumstances: its like you were there with her! Must read for the summer, sneaky beach drink in hand.

SENSATIONAL! This girl knows exactly what she is doing! This book better be on the NYT best seller list! It's funny, its quirky and its just what I was hoping it would be! I hope this is just the beginning for Mamrie! Now that I have the physical copy, I want the digital as well!

I read John Waters' "Role models" then Mamrie Hart's book right after and honestly...Hart's book is soooo hilarious. I love John Waters' book and it made me chuckle here and there but YDAD made me laugh like I just saw someone trip and fall then make a grand stand (you interpret that because I don't know either.) I strongly believe Mamrie Hart is our next Lucille Ball that are kids will still laugh about for years to come.

This book literally made me laugh out loud!

The drink recipes are innovative, and I'm excited to try them. However, it is Mamrie's stories that make this book comedy gold. Mamrie holds nothing back in her crazy anecdotes (she even includes a "safeword" on the especially scandalous parts so that her family knows to stop reading) and gives the reader a glimpse into the insane, quirky, and off-the-wall hilarity that is her life.

TL/DR: This book is engaging, authentic and very, very funny. Highly recommend!

I have been waiting for this book since it was announced and I was in no way disappointed. Mamrie reads as she speaks and her stories had me gasping for breathe with laughter. This book holds its own without the presence that is Mamrie Hart on Youtube. Look...stop reading this and start reading her book. Ok! I will be reviewing this on my blog next month www.ineedmycarrots.blogspot.com

This book was a much needed chuckle! I breezed through the book in one day because it was impossible to put down. One part really stuck out and it was about driving through the eastern part of Texas. I laughed until I had tears rolling down my fave because it was like reading something I've written in a journal. Definitely a 10/10 will read again!

Mamrie did a fantastic job telling the stories throughout her book, but I expected nothing less! This was such a fun read and I didn't want to put it down even to sleep! Definitely recommend! My only question is... How are you still alive after some of those stories?

Mamrie Hart is that hilarious friend you have whose stories are so ridiculous you can't believe they've all happened to one person. But unlike listening to your friend's stories as you try desperately to not shake your head and put your hand over your face, this books lets you read them again and again in the comfort of your own home.

Absolutely hilarious! Wouldn't expect anything less from Mamrie, but was even better than I could have imagined! She's a comedic genius, guys. Do yourself a favor and buy the book NOW. I have 3 copies and would honestly buy 3 more. Her life is literally ridiculous and if you don't read about the nonsense she has experienced, you're missing out for sure. I promise you will love it!

You Deserve A Drink is laugh out loud funny. Mamrie Hart leads an outrageously comical and blue moon life that she graciously spills for us to experience ourselves via le paper. I'd recommend this book to anyone and everyone because unless you are a robot from the future, I can guarantee there is at least one chapter that will strike home with you and leave you reading it again.

I watch Mamrie on YouTube, so I was very excited for her book. I am not much of a reader, but Mamrie's book is an easy, funny, and good read. I have not finished the book yet, but I feel like I have known Mamrie for years (besides watching her videos.) It's a great book, don't question buying it. Just buy it. Also subscribe to her on YouTube!

I absolutely loved this book. Mamrie Hart is the best friend I always knew I needed. She is hilarious, bold, charismatic and an all around good time. I loved every minute, it's bust out laughing funny and genuinely down to earth. Do yourself a favor and buy it, you seriously won't regret it. PS- Mamrie I'm ready for book number 2, please.

Mamrie Hart has such a genuine voice throughout the book. Raw, natural, and very fluid writing.
Through her adventures, experiences, and words of wisdom you can tell how passionate she is about everything she has done and is still doing.

Definitely a fun-filled, fast-paced, worthwhile read!

Mamrie is the most relatable, down-to-earth, funny human being. I was hesitant to get into her because she has such a young fan base, but I seriously couldn't be more in love. She's good people! And this book tells you why.

You can tell a mediocre comic by said comic's spewing profanity, scatology, and pornography. Said scatology shocks the audience into laughter, since the comic cannot just make funny jokes. Hart's book rings the changes on every four-letter unprintable until it becomes tiresome. Her repeated bragging about being blind drunk is equally soporific.

I found myself cringing in embarrassment for her over and over as I read her stories.

Maybe this is a good escape for someone wanting to relive their 20s but not so entertaining for those of us that have well and truly moved on.

First I have to whine and snivel a little bit.

I really wish the trend to assume comedians have more funny things happen to them than anyone else. And that they have the ability to anecdotally deliver them in written form. A on stage set or skit or improv is incredibly different from writing the comedic essay.

The bestselling success unfortunately will make my peeve persist.

Hart proves to be the nicely read exception to the mundane and boring norm I have come to expect in the continuing published works by comic associated individuals whose names I recognize.

And I had an epiphany as I read this. Hart is a do-er. She is not writing (for the most part) about the litany that life handed her. She writes about a lot about what she has tried or is trying to do. Both the ambitious and the embarrassing. It helps that she has few boundaries, recognizes what does shame her and still persist in knowing that in such a book no punches should be pulled. Even if it leaves her ego bruised.

I only know Hart from a couple of her appearances on @Midnight. And to be candid have thought her performance there adequate but not brilliant. Sidenote: she also has a tendency to provide reactionary commentary on others' quips that I find annoying. And yes I am easily annoyed. But I approached this with some trepidation. Even more so when I was about a third in and caught some of her guesting on the Grace Helbig show. Of which neither, the show or Hart, struck me as something I would normally seek out more of.

This effort though has me hoping that my arrogant self interest and Hart's professed self-interest reach the perfect storm and steer her towards writing more books.

I like the slightly scatter here and there aspect of the topics. This is not an auto-biography mashed up with an extended stand up routine. And while plenty of blunt maturity is explored I also never got the sense that she is trying to shock me with her drinking or her lady part mentions. Not like some comedian authors coughChelseaHandlercough.
