Another 5 star review! Hopefully this helps you know a bit more what you're getting. If you don’t know anything about this book, you’ll want to check out the Nerdy Nummies YouTube channel, where she has videos of how to make all of these recipes. The cookbook is simply another convenient format for people that want fast access to some of her more popular recipes.

INTO:

Nerdy Nummies is the first book created by 'Ro' off of the youtube channel Nerdy Nummies where she makes nerdy style things to eat or drink like from video games, or outer space. Her show has even featured the past CEO of Nintendo and Neil deGrasse Tyson, which is pretty fun.

THE SECOTIONS:

-To start, there’s a list of everything you may end up needing. You should probably just get these as needed.

-Immediately after that there is a basics section where Ro shows how she makes most of the basic desserts. The 3 I’ve made so far have been phenomenal, (brownies, chocolate cake, pound cake). You do want to make sure you’re using quality ingredients for things like flour and coco, you’ll taste them in the end. This section makes the book worth it, it’s so hard to find a cook book that consistently has good recipes if you don’t have a good recommendation.

-After this she gets into more complicated recipes in a few sections such as Math and Science, and Fantasy desserts. These can go from mixing a few ingredients to a bit complicated so chose wisely.

-The final sections are things like acknowledgments, conversion charts, resource guide, cutout templates, and an Index. The final page is a bit about the author.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BOOK

-My experience has been very positive, as I mentioned before the basics are really incredible and I’m excited to create dessert style monuments for games and other things I like. I bought the book because I like the Youtube channel and want faster access to the recipes, but surprisingly so far my favorite part of the book has been the basic recipes.

Upon receiving this book, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the creations within the book. I loved that her instructions include nice pictures throughout the process and the range of subjects are covered throughout the book, from chemistry video games, etc. I haven't gotten a chance to make anything out of the book. But I will definitely update when I do. Happy cooking!!!!

I adore the Nerdy Nummies YouTube channel and this book is like a printed version of the show. Any fan of the show will love this book. Ro's bubbly personality shines through in every page. She cracks cheesy jokes, explains how-to's in simple steps, and the recipes are easy to follow and look delicious. I can't wait to make geode cupcakes! I made several of her creations from the show for my son's birthday earlier this year and I look forward to making many more geeky treats with Ro's "assistance"! Let's get started!

Love Roe... Haven't made any tasty treats, but I am looking forward to it. The clear recipes and nice photos make baking fun! I didn't give it 5 stars because I didn't think it was nerdy enough. I love her youtube channel and would have loved to see more of those delicious nerdy nummies end up in the book.

BASIC dessert recipes with several "buy this here" QR codes. Just stick to Pinterest. Yes the desserts are adorable and sure to please any geek but you don't need a $30 book to make them. Go on Pinterest for your recipes then look an the store for $30 worth of fancy cookie cutters and candy molds.

The book has lots of beautiful pictures of deserts to look at, but I was really disappointed to see that actually there was almost nothing that we could actually make... Too much food coloring in all the items and tons of work, not really practical for us...
Also the book cover fell apart the first day we go it :-(

I purchased this for my daughter (10 years of age) because we watch Nerdy Nummies on YouTube all the time. Even though we love "Ro" and especially love the challenges she does with her sister and her special guests, this book is not practical for kids. Not only is it very expensive to get the baking accessories, but some of the recipes are very complicated designs and there are multiple steps to the recipes which seems overwhelming to me to do with my daughter. (We bake quite often). I would have made the recipes a bit simpler since the show seems to cater to kids/tweens. We will still continue to watch the show though. My daughter and I really enjoy it and find it very entertaining and funny!

For those of you who are familiar with Rosanna Pansino's Youtube Channel, Nerdy Nummies, you're pretty much getting what you've seen online in print form. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because this book is really beautiful and easy to follow - the photos are vibrant, the instructions are laid out well, and the desserts really look awesome. The book really revolves around 16 core recipes - apple pie, butter cake, pound cake, white cake, red velvet cake, rich chocolate cake, New York Cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, brownies, macarons, chocolate chip cookies, cream cheese sugar cookies, vanilla almond sugar cookies, lemon sugar cookies, royal icing, and marshmallow fondant. Food items you will need aside from these basic recipes include rice krispie treats, buttercream frosting, premade cookies (such as Oreos, graham crackers, Lorna Doone shortbread), and candy. Lots and lots of candy. An asinine amount of candy even.

The recipes themselves are easy to follow and to make - it's really the decorating that is hard. This is not a beginner decorator book for kids - many of the creations will require time, patience, and a very steady hand to execute correctly. If you haven't used a piping bag before, there is a ton of piping to do! Some of the recipes also require special equipment such as Petri Dishes (for the Petri Dish Jello), flasks (for the HP & Mana Potions), candy molds (such as the Rupee shaped or HP candy bars) and plenty of very specific cookie cutters. While you can use the templates on her website nerdynummiescookbook.c om, let's be honest, it will take twice as long to cut each cookie out - you will need to buy the cookie cutters to make these projects.

Overall, while I like the look of the book, and I love the idea of the projects, I would sooner just stick to her Youtube channel to get the recipes and decorating instructions. That said, the book is great for gifting (buy the cookie cutters and make it a gift basket!) and makes a nice conversation piece cookbook. Otherwise, everything in this book is available online for free...

I bought this for my 8-year-old grandson who loves the YouTube channel, loves Nerdy things, and loves to bake with me. I quickly learned it’s not so much a cookbook as a cake (or cookie) decorating book. There are only a small handful of basic recipes reused over and over, and the author even says to feel free to use a standard cake mix instead of her recipes!

So don’t come here for recipes. However the cookbook is beautifully designed and I love the photos illustrating the steps. That said - most of the recipes have LOTS of steps. These recipes are all a lot of work and effort for a simple home baker, and require lots of specialized equipment and/or ingredients. My grandson loved the photos and immediately wanted to bake something but we quickly found we were missing either equipment or ingredients to making 90% of the recipes.

We settled on “galaxy cupcakes” as we had all ingredients except the candy stars. All I can say is WHAT A MESS. It required just about every bowl in my kitchen plus intense food coloring (stains), messy icing decorating bags, and when we were done it looked like Hurricane Irma had come through again. And of course our results looked nothing like the beautiful book photos. My grandson said philosophically “well in real life it never looks as good as the book”. Our result definitely looked like a “Pinterest fail”.

My grandkids both thought the cupcakes were yummy but they would have tasted just as good if we had merely spread a simple buttercream frosting on them and not used every bowl and all those darn icing bags.

Still, it’s a fun book and the photos are amazing, just not too practical. I doubt we’ll actually make many recipes. It’s way too stressful. But they are fun to look at.

In my quick glance of reviews before me, not very many people had actually attempted some of these recipes before giving it a glowing 5 stars. Yes, my 10 year old step-daughter was also flipping out when she got this book and I happily offered to help her make something for her dad. I love to bake and am fairly confident in the kitchen but these recipes are a huge pain in the butt. If you have all the time, money and patience in the world and happen to live next to Whole Foods, this book is for you. If you are a busy family and don't have time for fancy ingredients and 3 trips to 3 different stores to hunt down those strange items needed to pull these off... keep looking. Had it not been for the fact that these were for Father's Day, I would have thrown in the towel on trip 2 to random store.

My kiddo and I settled on the game controller cookies. To be fair, you could use any sugar cookie recipe to make this work but if your kid is into doing it just like "Ro" then it's going to be a time consuming and money consuming process. We literally spent over 4 hours and close to $30 making 11 cookies. These recipes call for ingredients such as "almond meal" which I had to go to two different stores to find. When I found it, it was $10 for the bag. I also had to google to see if "almond meal" and "almond flour" were the same thing.... they are. It also wanted "fresh nutmeg" which I didn't even bother with because that would have been one more trip to one more store across town. The special molds, icing tips, food colorings, cookie cutters and candies also add up so save your Michael's coupons because you will need them.
For this particular recipe we had to make the dough, refrigerate it for an hour (fair enough), roll out the dough, cut them out, bake them, cool them and take an hour in between colors when icing. This reminded me why I don't make Christmas cookies anymore but at least with a good sugar cookie recipe it makes a ton. I think these kids see it all on Youtube and think it will be just as easy and quick.... it's not. I also agree with a couple others on here in that you need to read each recipe closely and a couple times before you start. I feel like some of the information in Step 2 should be mentioned in Step 1. Most kids (like mine) will just read the first step without looking ahead first which would have been bad if I hadn't caught a few things. A quick hack to this is to just make a boxed cake or premade dough and then decorate with her ideas. While I live in a large city, I also grew up in a very small rural area so I am going to guess that a good chunk of these items will be impossible to find if you live in a small town. I am seriously dreading the next request to use this book.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter and I would not recommend it at all. There are a few basic recipes in here that are ok but the rest are impractical for baking with kids. The tools and ingredients needed to make the recipes are nothing you would find in a normal kitchen. To buy ingredients for any of the recipes you would have to search multiple stores and spend way too much money. The pictures are very nice to look at but that is about it. Do not waste your money unless you have unlimited time and money to bake with your kids.

The recipes are not are not "busy working mom" friendly. I got it for my 9 y/o because we like to bake but you need a lot of utensils, we don't have on hand, to bake a lot the recipes so I had to spend MORE money to buy special items.

A few years ago, my son introduced me to Rosanna Pansino's YouTube cooking webshow called Nerdy Nummies and we have been logging in to watch every week since. Rosanna is the cutest little chef you will ever see and she makes fairly simple-to-follow snacks and treats that are themed with all things nerdy. Over the years, my son and I have recreated several of her recipes with fun success! When I saw she had a cookbook coming out, there was no doubt we would be adding a copy to our kitchen. And... she went on a nationwide book signing tour in the U.S. so we were able to catch her for a meet and greet! To say my son was in heaven is an understatement and after it was all over the excitement continued as we devoured her cookbook. The Nerdy Nummies Cookbook: Sweet Treats for the Geek in All of Us is super cute, it has gorgeous photos, and the recipes will have youth, adults, and families all excited for the next opportunity to cook!

If you're over the age of 12 and have any cooking or decorating skill whatsoever, this will probably not be something you will need to use. There were a total of three good 'new' ideas in it. If I had realized this was supposed to be the basics of the basics I wouldn't have wasted my money. I'll probably give it to my nephew or my aunt who can't boil water. "Use a star shaped cookie cutter" is direction I'm pretty sure they can handle. If you're looking for something that actually requires effort and that someone might recognize as being 'nerdy', just watch Nerdy Nummies on Youtube. That said, if you have a nerdy kid in your life, buy this in hardcover immediately- they will love it!

The best Nerdy Nummies recipes are on Youtube. You won't find any of the more popular ones here, possibly due to licensing reasons.

Anyway, the decorating ideas are fun to look at but not especially creative. Some are pretty lame - glasses cookies, smart phone cookies, things anyone could come up with. The owls were cute though. Rather than using everyday foods in creative ways (i.e., using jumbo marshmallows to make Olaf snowmen, waffle -shaped pretzels as wings, etc), it is just decorating with icing and fondant. The decorating ideas rely heavily on food coloring and oddly enough, she always calls for canned icing. The actual baked goods weren't very tasty. The unicorn poo cookies were fun to make but tasted gross.

Recommended for fans of the show or Ro herself (she seems like a total sweetheart), or amateur bakers looking for ideas. Try using your own recipes though.

My granddaughter loves the book but Im disappointed that the pictures in the easy cake section don't match the recipes and the recipes don't reference what kind of iceing recipe to use. Pictures show 3 layer or loaf cakes and recipe is for 9 x 13 pan or cupcakes. I would think a book for preteen beginners would be more exact. She hasn't started baking yet and Im concerned it may be somewhat complicated even though she is very excited to get started.

My 11 year old daughter purchased this with her own money since she loves Rosanna's videos. She was beyond excited for it to arrive and when it finally did, her excitement faded into complete disappointment after turning the pages. The recipes require intriquite decorating and supplies, and quite frankly, aren't worth the effort for the end result. Save your money and stick with the free videos.

I've been a fan of the show for some time and was thrilled that I could add this book to my collection. Part of me was upset the book wasn't all video game related goodies but the book contains so many great creations I can't possibly dock it stars. It has an amazing variety of treats. I bought it primarily for my boys, 2 and 5, since they both watch the show but since my wife and I are both chefs and she also decorates cake for a living this is a gift my entire family loved sitting down to look at.

Bought this as a gift for my sister's birthday after I got it as a Christmas gift and loved it. It's great for nerdy dessert ideas--with sections on Math & Science; Space; Fantasy & Sci-Fi; Gaming; Tech & Web; and Geeky Treats. The author outlines the tools, techniques and recipes you'll need. I haven't tried any of the recipes because I'm gluten-free, so I can't comment on the taste of her particular recipes, but I love using her ideas and techniques.

Bought this as a gift to my gf. She watches the web series regularly, and we both enjoy watching Ro with how adorable she is while she bakes. My gf was so excited when it came in, and has been skimming through it every few days since we got it, trying to figure out just what to make first. The recipes are all well written out, clear in detail, and the personal tidbits are great too.

Cookbooks all have mostly the same food in them with slight changes. However, this is a fun cookbook that includes many pop culture and science fiction tips and tricks. Pinterest has some, but they are most likely going to end up in failure, we have been able to create some great treats for us and our guests.
