This is a diet that isn't just a fad--the book talks about making real lifestyle changes. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The program is based on studies conducted by some of the most respected medical research institutions in the country, including Johns Hopkins University and Duke University Medical Center. The DASH diet effectively lowers sodium, making hearts healthier and lowering high blood pressure, but also takes into consideration the amount of sodium the dieter is used to. This is great because you don't feel like you are suddenly on a crash diet: there are two tiers of sodium intake you can choose. The other thing I really like about this diet is that it is more about a lifestyle change: it reduces sodium, increases fiber, and greatly reduces trans fats and saturated fats. It also recognizes the psychological struggles of dieting and has great recommendations for the transition between eating plans. There are fantastic charts with specific breakdowns of each food and food group to guide you through your menu planning, and a super helpful grocery shopping list to guide you through the store. Combined with a menu plan and a workout plan, this book lays out a totally sustainable life change for anyone looking to get healthier.

If I had to describe “The DASH Diet Health Plan” in three words, it would be “hard to believe”! Incredibly delicious recipes, a common sense 28 day fitness plan and sample menus are only a few of the benefits squeezed into this well written, easy to read goldmine!

No wonder US News & World Report chooses it as its #1 choice as “Best Diets Overall”, “Best Diet for Healthy Eating” and “Best Diabetes Diet”!

My wife and I are excited as we embark and experience this medical researched and supported adventure.

The Dash Diet Health Plan is for everyone but really great for those of us with high blood pressure. What is really lovely is the chance to customize the plan to your own needs instead of working out like an Olympian or eating like one. You never get bored on the work out plans and the meal ideas are delicious. The format is very organized and offers you the ability to keep track of your progress. Everything is backed by the research done in five universities on this exact diet so you know the nutrition is excellent. Thinking in the real world John Chatham (the author) even gives you a technique to shop in the grocery store and avoid the foods you should not eat. Overall, it is a comprehensive lifestyle health plan designed to avoid the traps of daily life and promote good habits.

I liked this book a lot, especially because it takes a uniqe approach to health and fitness. It includes references from numerous reputable medical research institutions, lending a good deal of credibility to the claims being made. The Dash diet focuses on lowering blood pressure, mostly through the reduction of sodium. However, it also specifically tells you which foods are good and which are bad. It helps you understand the glycemic index, fiber, and fats. Plus, you get a ton of delicious recipes. I recommend this book.

Great overview: concise without sacrificing crucial information. The recipes look good, although I haven't tried any yet. Apparently concise reviews are not appreciated, as in required to include 20 more words, including those in this sentence.

This book is OK if you are just starting with the healthier lifestyle. I am not a big health/fitness nut, but I found that the recommendations that they were giving were things that I had already been doing for some time.

This book makes it seem like the DASH diet is some sort of a phenomenon, hence its status as a diet. What the DASH diet REALLY is is the regimen doctors have been recommending for the past two decades. It isn't a "fun new slimming healthy diet that doesn't compromise your desire to eat tasty food." It's "to be healthy, you must eat sensibly and exercise persistently.” The book doesn’t include a comprehensive nutrition value chart which hurts its credibility, and all the information within it is easily accessible already. If you truly have no idea where to start, this book may certainly be of use to you. Use this as your gateway to learning more and taking control of your health.

Healthier choices for better heart (and lowered blood pressure) health. Bought this a while back, using it now with intermittent fasting and the Leslie Sansone videos to get back into shape. Really trying to get off of blood pressure medication.

My father was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and once I learned the DASH diet was rated number one for combating the disease, I've been searching for the right book to introduce to my dad. Chatham's is the best resource I've found, so far. You are instructed how to slowly ease into the diet, using the tools included, like worksheets, reference tables, food guides, menu planners, and of course, plenty of recipes. It's informative, providing plenty of background information on how the DASH diet was created and tested, and also stresses the importance of exercise and fitness, including fitness plan. Most important, to me and my dad, is that Chatham's book is really reader friendly and easy to follow.

I had never heard of the DASH diet before this book,so if you are wondering the same thing: Simply put, The DASH Diet Health Plan is a go-to guide for any person--I repeat, any person—who wants to transform their usual diet of either starvation or crash diets, to a much more healthy and medically sound means of weight loss.

If you’re like me, you need lists of what I can and can not eat! This book gives you step-by-step instructions to getting your health in-check. There are even plenty of healthy and tasty choices you can order from restaurants or cook at home, and you would hardly know you were “dieting.” Wonder what I’m talking about? snag this book!

The DASH diet was created by scientists and nutritionists from around the country as a means to combat and prevent high blood pressure, obesity and diseases like diabetes. It works by giving you the knowledge and tools to select your own sodium and caloric intake. If you feel or have been told that you have a high risk of developing any of the above ailments, then the first thing the DASH plan will do is get you healthy. After customizing your meal and fitness plan, you will start to feel more energized and shedding pounds will just come naturally!

Let's face it diets are a drag, and most diet books follow suit. I have been on and off diets since my early twenties, and had pretty much sworn off purchasing one more diet book. And then came the doctors orders: if I want to live a long, healthy life I better start eating like it. Enter the DASH Diet Health Plan. First off, I have to admit a diet that is a health plan as opposed to a two-week meal plan appeals to me. Mores so, a diet supported by the American Heart Association and the Mayo Clinic is a diet I am willing to put my trust into.

While I was not eager to embark upon another diet, this book has made it very simple. It provides steps for getting started, helpful tips for grocery shopping and even dozens of meal plans and recipes for ensuring success. There have been times when I have lost the motivation to diet before I have even gotten started, but that was not the case with The DASH Diet Health Plan. The book is an easy read, and is simple to navigate through. I see it as my daily tour guide on my journey towards a healthy lifestyle.

This definitely seems like one diet that I can maintain not just in passing, but for the longterm, which is great because ultimately, as the book and my doctor have conveyed, my life depends on it.

The food lists, recipes and tips for getting started, are very useful, and have been instrumental in my success so far.

Thank you DASH Diet Health Plan for providing me with the information I need to know to live a healthy lifestyle!

The Dash Diet is a great way to eat healthy and probably even to lose weight depending on your personal medical condition of course! Regarding the medical claims: generally, a diet like this can help you to be healthier but everyone is different. Remember also that we’re working with holistic remedies here, not miracle cures. Low-sodium recipes are great for lack of water retention which can pack on weight. I haven’t tried any of these in my own kitchen but they look great. Shopping lists are a must and this stuff doesn't seem too expensive. Right on! Try to make sure you check with your doctor though before making a lifestyle change.

As a professional in the Health and Fitness Industry, I know far too many clients, friends, and family members with Diabetes or High Blood Pressure that struggle to lose weight and stay healthy even on the best diet and exercise plans. Good news, my friends: The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet is the answer you've been searching for. This book offers you more than just another quick fix, fad diet. This is a step by step lifestyle change that will hold your hand through the process of getting your health back. Yes, any lifestyle change will take some discipline, but Chatham's approach will help you create just the right informed diet and exercise plan to get your blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight under control. "The DASH Diet" is full of wonderful tools to support you along the way. There are charts, tables, worksheets, recipes, and decades of science to back it up. I tried several of the recipes. They're tasty and easy to follow. This book is informative and too valuable not to share. Even if you are not currently dealing with health problems, but want to lose weight, or have diabetes or hypertension in your family, I would recommend you check out this book.

I think this book really does provide good recipes for someone who suffers from either diabetes or just wants to boost their overall health. This book provides lean and delicious food recipes. This book is not a diet r3eally it is a way of eating healthier. It focuses on not loosing fat but adding healthy fats and low sodium foods. It teaches one to stop eating processed and chemically dangerous products .I really enjoyed reading this book and seeing all the endless possibilities of great healthy recipes. This book really educated me on what our body needs and how beneficial it is for us to stay healthy.

If you're concerned about your health then you've doubt heard about the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet developed through the National Institutes of Health. This book provides the details you may have missed in shorter articles or news clips. The health benefits are many ~ not only lowering blood pressure and hypertension but also decreasing risks of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. The research is sound and extensive.

The best thing about this high fiber, low fat diet is that we CAN do it! Up your intake of high fiber grains, fruits and veggies, swap protein to lean sources and you've got the essentials down. The exercise plans with cardio and strength training are both helpful & feasible.

Amazingly this book is as much a cookbook as a diet plan. There are FIVE chapters of recipes! Yeah! These recipes, packed with familiar, inexpensive ingredients, are so good even your non-dieting family members will eat them (kids too!) - omelets, French toast, Dijon pork chops, garlic basil shrimp, salads, beef stew, seafood fettuccine, coffee cake, chocolate mocha mousse, & more!

Love this diet - solid science, sensible exercise, simple meal plans!

As of 2010 almost 30% of Americans have higher than normal blood pressure. The 100 million Americans in future danger of high blood pressures give this recipe book a read. They help you lose pounds and keep that pressure down and to extend your life. There are recipes like omelets with veggies that can be a great way to start your day. They also have breakdowns of calories, protein content, carbohydrates, and fiber that show the recipes are not just for show. Additional information (like portion control that is backed up by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) also makes the book very useful. The end of the book has a lot of tips and plans that help you keep on a DASH diet.

The DASH diet is a very straightforward, clear plan. I especially like that it includes a few different variations, so someone following the plan can customize it and focus on their biggest goals. The plan also has a lot of variety in the foods to choose from, and most of the recommendations actually sound pretty good. The recipes for these foods are easy to follow, also. And there are so many of them! In addition to the diet itself, the book has a lot of other info that will help with your weight loss. It gives you a guide for how to calculate your BMI, a recommended grocery shopping list, and more. You can tell that John Chatham knows what he's talking about and put a lot of work into the plan. The science makes sense, as do the assumptions and ideas he puts forward after explaining the introductory science and facts. Overall, there is a lot of flexibility and variety, which makes the plan easier to follow than some others and more exciting than most.

I chose the rating, as it was exactly what I was after. I have been following a process that I found in one of our women's magazines and as I have been told to lose weight by my doctor, I followed it (The dash Diet Phase 1). I have lost 10kgs so far and I could not have done it without this to follow. So thank you.

This books is great for most anyone. It contains informative information for both shopping and eating. For example, there is a chapter on nutritional labels for shopping. I always knew about the labels but I never really knew what to look for when it came to certain types of nutrition. The book offers info on how to stock up on great foods for a "dash diet", and how to exercise to get the most from your foods and the Dash Diet plan. The book is very easy to understand overall and offers great recipes for most types of eaters. I'm talking about hearty get full type of recipes. Overall I found this book really helpful and full of practical information that should help to lower your blood pressure and improve your overall health if you use it in the way it was intended. Great book and a healthy solution to anyone looking to change their eating habits for a more healthy lifestyle.

I have a pet peeve with books that over-complicate ideas that can be explained just as effectively in a much more simplified manner. The Dash Diet makes me happy. It's easy to understand and follow BUT still highly informative and comprehensive. It tells you why you should try the dash diet instead of others (e.g. lower blood pressure) and defines more complicated terms for you. It has not only meal plans and recipes, but also shopping list suggestions and even a workout plan! I love it, I can tell I will be using this book on a regular basis.

Needing to drop my sodium levels I thought that this would be the best book for me. You will still get a lot of flavor without the added sodium and learn to use other spices to add a kick to your food.
