This is a gorgeous book with a wonderfully put together list of places to travel. Having been to a few of these, I can say they truly deserve a space on the list. This book definitely gives me major wanderlust. It would be an excellent coffee table book or gift for any intrepid traveller, or really for anyone that appreciates the diversity of beautiful places throughout the world. HOWEVER, my book arrived with several blank pages, I'm assuming due to a printing error. Destinations #4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 13 (pages 18, 19, 22, 23, 26, 27, 30, 31) are missing, and instead there are white pages. I will be returning and re-purchasing as it is a wonderful book.

I checked this out from the library and realized I had a treasure. I immediately ordered it from the store. I have been fortunate to travel to many of the places. The pictures are beautiful and it is easy to read. It is a book to have out on display. It also comes with a world map which can be framed and you can identify each place you have been. A wonderful gift for anyone.

great book. It is a big heavy book with a hardcover. It was wrapped in plastic so I couldn't open it as it is a gift. It says it brings a bonus free map inside which is a nice little bonus. This will be a great gift for a traveler.
Murder List (Buchanan / Renard / MacKenna Book 4) :: The Terminal List: A Thriller :: Schindler's List :: A Week-by-Week Reckoning of Trump’s First Year - The List :: Flowers in the Attic / Petals on the Wind / If There Be Thorns / Seeds of Yesterday / Garden of Shadows

I was pretty happy to receive this at a discount during prime day. I love the fact how it comes with a poster map, and it is hardcover.
This is a great book to get travel ideas and really to plan your next ultimate travel adventure. The pages on the book are heavy and the photographs used on her are just absolutely stunning.

This book is indeed pricey, but you will sure love what you'll see once you purchase and open the book. It is like magic within your finger tips!

Easy, turn to page 1 and you'll find out!

Instead of starting at #500 in the beginning and counting down to the best at the end, this book goes the opposite way. Can't for the life of me figure out why.

I started reading but I'm busy slowly flipping through from the back.

Also, they chose some real duds but left out Easter Island. Maybe because they want to protect it or maybe because they just forgot.

Absolutely lovely. Although I do wish that every destination had a photo, the ones that are in the book are spectacular. It's on my desk and all my friends have picked it up and leafed through it when they've come over, and found it great as well.

Beautiful book with wonderful illustrations and descriptions. It's in order of rank of places to visit rather than by country in case you were wondering, but you can easily just use the index to find each country's top tourist spots. For the price this book is more than worth it! I was surprised a full color, 300+ page book was so cheap! Great as a coffee table book and/or to satisfy (or fuel) your wanderlust! I wouldn't use this as a ride or die guide, but more like a catalog to decide which country or city you might delve into to visit. The listed areas are pretty "mainstream" but I suppose that's rightfully so, since there's a reason these locations are such popular tourisy destinations. Also, it's more of a peave home kind of book since it is really big and heavy. If you want to get a world travel guide to bring on your trips, I recommend the "Best things in life are free" book (also by lonelyplanet). Overall really worth the price and I recommend to anyone looking for some travel inspiration!

This is a high quality hardcover book that makes a great gift for anyone interested in travel or just beautiful photographs from around the world. The book ranks Lonely Planet's top 500 places to travel around the world and provides a brief summary for each location. The book is filled with colorful photos of landscapes, landmarks, and people that keep the reader glued to each page. It also comes with a pull out world map that charts the locations of the top 100 places to visit. Great for making a travel bucket list or just for casual viewing on your coffee table.

Don't get me wrong the book is pretty - it has chosen typical and somewhat random places to highlight. For me however, I expected a lot more from a photography travel book. Some of the photos were odd - some were tired b/c it's the same photo everyone uses. I'm afraid this just wasn't coffee table worthy. Would definitely recommend looking elsewhere for higher quality material.

I have traveled the world for the past 30 years and was amazed at how thorough Lonely Planet was in its selections. Most avid travelers will find some solace in the first 100 selections because they will exclaim "been there" (the book is divided into 5 sections of 100 each) but as the book goes on more and more places will get onto someone's bucket list. Great book, highly recommended

Lists 500 places to visit. Some great pictures; some not so great. Many places with no picture; many of which I would like to see. Also text could have been better. Thumbnail maps would have been useful to determine locations.

A glossy coffee table book.

Lists like these are always inspirational to flip through, but some of the rankings are way off the mark, IMO. For example, the Terracotta Warriors in China, the Potala Palace in Tibet, and Borobudur, Indonesia, all were outside the top 100... and the Pyramids of Egypt didn't even make the top 20.

Lonely Planet does it again! This is an incredible curated list of so many incredible places around the globe. It perfectly balances a blend of mega famous sights like Machu Picchu and the Pyramids of Giza to lesser known hidden gems. It provides you with a host of more ideas to add to your bucket list as well as just being a wonderful conversation starter book that is a delight to flip through. I love the short concise and well written descriptions for each along with a valuable tip for each place. The photographs are stunning and I especially like how they pick shots that are less generic so it almost feels like you are seeing sites you have seen a thousand time for the first time. My ONLY disappointment was the noticeable absence of Taktsang Palphug Monastery (Tiger's Nest) in Bhutan, which should easily knock one of the other many fine locales into the 501- category. Still, it is a stunning celebration of our planet's beautiful diversity. Lonely Planet continues to prove it is the best of the best of travel guide products out there.

This book desperately needs an index listing the destinations by location and type. I need more structure! With that said I will probably just look through it cover to cover because the content is good.

This book is beautiful as a picture book with some explanations of the pictures, but I was expecting more in descriptions and advice. Don't buy this book if you're expecting a travel guide. I also thought it would be a list of easy but awesome places to travel to... Many of the places on the list are awesome but extremely remote. This was my first book from the lonely planet series and it's not for me.

I was looking for a unique Christmas gift for my globe trotting son. This book has spectacular photography, outlines itineraries for ideas and is written very well. It sits on his coffee table and is well read by all his guests.

This book is an amazing book to find the most amazing places from the world. I found it very interesting because the images where high quality and they were very representative from what the text was saying. It’s excellent teenagers and adults that are interested on finding the top 500 places on earth.

This a great book if you're looking for both leisure and adventure travel location ideas. The little side notes are also helpful, as they provide other travel suggestions (just not as much detail given as the featured travel locations).
