Well thought out and well written story about how terrorism can and possibly already are pervading our country... The realistic and human characters and plot line has me anticipating from Scott Matthews!

I've read several books in this series and the author writes a pretty good "bubble-gum-for-the-mind" military style action thriller with all the requisite twists, turns, and shoot-em-ups. The author's failing is going too far in expressing his personal political views. Not all slimy/corrupt politicians are Democrats, the ACLU is not a bunch of wimps, etc., and there's little difference to victims between Muslim jihadists and crazy white supremacists. The author should stick to writing a good story without using his protagonist as a platform for his politics.

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, (GOD rest his soul), Tom Clancy or Joel Rosenberg. Please write more soon.

A good story, interesting characters.
Moved at a good pace.
I look forward to the next installment.
A minor issue for me, is while set primarily in Portland ,Oregon, there are several geographical errors.
These primarily involve descriptions of driving routes.
Had there been better proofreading regarding this , the book wuuld rate five stars.

Crisp, concise, writing moves the plot quickly, Action involves an up to date type plot. Main heroic character and his dog are likable. Villains are described in limited fashion but seem to fit contemporary general stereotypes e.g. Mexican cartels About half way thru the book became boring.
Then I read other the store reviewers with 3 star ratings and lost interest in a novel with a probable unsatisfying ending.

As an action book, this one isn't too bad. But there are a lot of little mistakes that break the flow of the writing. The XO of an Army base referring to the CO as "Commander" and not "Colonel." The head of an FBI field office called the "managing agent," rather than the Special Agent in Charge. An attorney in private practice who can just randomly take a week off work without running into problems with the courts. All of those took the book from "decent thriller" to "laughable." The plot works, but the writing it too silly to be taken seriously.

Getting past the cheese, the book is decent. Drake comes across as James Bond (he can do anything and knows all the right people). But hey, this is fiction, right, so why not go all-out?

I was a little worried that the book would be right-wing propaganda, but it isn't. There's a few references to that, but they are few and far between.

The story is just 'OK' but the telling is rather drawn out and describing some of the action scenes seem rather 'ho hum' rather than dramatic.
This is another book that just stops - expectantly leaving the reader wanting to seek the follow up - no thanks: I just find that annoying!

This book has it all! Great characters, page-turning plot and a riveting ending will keep you reading this book long into the night. The topic of terrorism in the US is handled with great insight. I strongly recommend this to any reader who enjoys a book that keeps you entertained up until the end.
Looking forward to seeing more Drake adventures.

Never reviewed anything in my life... if that alone makes me a bad reviewer so be it... but I Kindle-read incessantly & I know when I've read a worthwhile book... worthwhile enough for me to say something. Scott Matthews has got to be the Brad Thor/Vince Flynn of next week... he's that close. A thoroughly enjoyable read... seemed pretty authentic militarily... maybe a little romance in the sequel? He created several opportunities for that to happen... and there's GOTTA be a next one... can't wait.

From the beginning to the end this book held my interest. I won't say I could not put it down, I did many times in the three days it took me to read it. However, the action was good, the storyline easy to follow and the characters well developed. I did find some of the situations and actions to be a little hard to believe. I will not enumerate as it might spoil some of the story. I recommend this book.

I made it half-way through chapter 7 before I couldn't take any more. My suspension of disbelief was no longer possible after the mention of "Hitler's SS Muslim Panzar Division" with my melted brain running out my ears. I was willing to trudge through multiple cliches, jingoistic military worship, and broadly-painted Arab / Muslim stereotypes, but if Mr. Matthews is going to re-invent history, he should at least make it somewhat believable.
The protagonist a heroic Porsche-driving ex-Delta Force widower lawyer is drinking to dull the pain his wife's death when he receives a phone call from his rich well-connected father-in-law Senator asking him to "look into" a murder for a "friend" who happens to be the CEO of a DHS Defense Contractor, a job for which neither a Lawyer or a Delta Force warrior would be qualified. And the being contracted under-the-table by a US Senator, this would NEVER HAPPEN. The military/intelligence fan-boy vibe was quite off-putting, but still I soldiered on. The hero has a flash-back where he's dancing with his future wife and peppering her with tough DA talk about how criminals make the wrong decisions and can't be rehabilitated. Also a quote from the hero's senator father "Americans don't want to know how they are able to sleep in a troubled world" is a quote which could be attributed to any number of military dictators throughout history. The "SS Muslim Panzar Division" sounded so incredibly stupid that I did search it just to make sure there was no such thing. As I had suspected, the idea is completely ridiculous. My feeling is that this book is a waste of your time (and I have lots of time right now). At least the price is right. Word to the wise, pass on this one.

I heard about this book and decided to buy it. Not the normal kind of reading for me but I certainly wasn't disappointed. What began as an interesting read, with all the local information included about a beautiful part of our country, quickly turned into a fast-paced page-turner I couldn't put down until I reached the end. I sure hope there is another book to follow this one because I want to know what happens next.

Excellent new writer! It's hard to believe this is the first book for this author. I like to get "into" a book as if I'm actually there. This story is very authentic and certainly draws you into the action. I am looking forward to the sequel and hopefully a continuing series.

Actually, the writing is excellent. However, I feel that the author threw out the "N' word for no reason other than to shock us. I'm not understanding why all the bad guys seem to be black as the prison population is not totally black and there would have been converts from all races. I have no problems with the main character being ex-special forces and well trained, nor with his dog. Normally I don't have issues with things, but that gratuitous unwanted word just really bothers me. I'm not sure if I'll keep reading or not as the story is really, really good.

While this is a relatively enjoyable terrorist thriller, it is intended to promote harmful ideas like all Muslims are evil and none are to be trusted; and conspiracy ideas that Muslims have been infiltrating and subverting our country for years. From naming the evil company ISIS to alleging that Muslim terrorists are responsible for any difficulties between races in our country, this book clearly has an agenda beyond telling a good story. Read it knowing that you are being manipulated.

I downloaded this book for free, so I was willing to give it a lot more leeway than if I'd had to pay. But even as a free book it's disappointing. I only got through about 20 pages before I tired of the author's reliance on stereotypes. This might have been interesting 15 or 20 years ago, but at this point, the stereotypical Arab terrorist character has been done to death. To me, this sort of reliance on stereotypical characters demonstrates lazy writing. I would much prefer some creativity in character development.
Even as a free read, it wasn't worth my time.
