Brings to life a very tumultuous period and the lives of key women who endured it. Jacquetta was a strong woman, astute and formidable. Well ahead of her time. This book brings her perspective and experiences to life and draws the reader in.

This book fills in the Rivers side of the stories of The White Queen and the Cousin's war. I did not know that Jaquetta was so influential. I thought she ws just a nobody with a pretty Daughter until this book. It is also a great explanation of how the sleeping king and the crazy queen lost power.

Not in the best of shape, but a great buy. A wonderful book, Phillipa Gregory is truly the mistress of historical fiction. This book is part of the Cousin's War series, and is both a great story and good background for the other books in this series.
The Queen's Fool :: Changeling (Order of Darkness Book 1) :: CAPTURED BY A LAIRD (THE DOUGLAS LEGACY Book 1) :: The Wise Woman: A Novel (Historical Novels) :: Wideacre: A Novel (The Wideacre Trilogy)

Anyone who likes this author should definitely read this series. The story of Jaquetta is unique and refreshing from the stories of Anne Boleyn who I also adore. I hope more of Jaquetta comes to us!!

This whole series is wonderful. This story is actually a pre-quel and explains a lot of incidents that come in later stories. Loved "The White Queen" on TV and glad they pulled from Philippas' other stories in the series.

I found this an interesting novel and easy to read. Like many Phillipa Gregory's I find myself wishing there was more...I think but that I mean more depth in the characters - but never the less I still find myself reading them so there must be something of value for me!

Loved this book, although I read it out of order and should have read it first before the White Queen and White Princess. I Love Phillipa's writing and burnt the midnight oil with this one. My husband could hear me muttering...."Just one more chapter....just one more chapter....".

Philla Gregory's historical based novels are excellent. This one was also quite good. Her books are well researched and interesting. I also like stories about strong women as in the White Queen and White Princess.

Lady of the Rivers gives you a clear idea of who Jacquetta Woodville was and what a strong a defined person she was, well somewhat at least. But I completely enjoyed it. I'd recommend it to anybody who'd like to read semi real novels on the historical women of the past.

Yes I know I am reading these books out of order but no matter, this book is as excellent as the others. Gregory is an amazing writer so really you could read these books in any order. I cannot wait to read Kingmakers Daughter!

I personally liked this book, as I tend to do with all Philippa Gregory novels. I think I've read every one of them. As a lover of historical fiction, each novel I read I take with a grain of salt. These are fictional novels and although there are pieces of historical reference in them, they are for entertainment. I like Gregory's writing style and her books always seem to peak my interest. A good quick read.

Another gripping and inspiring novel by Phillippa Gregory. Jaquetta is by far my favourite protagonist and I enjoyed reading appropriate snippets of the novel to my 7 year old daughter to reinforce Maya Angelou's oft quoted refrain: "it's not what people call you but what you answer to that counts."

As an avid fan of Philippa Gregory, I found this book to be a disappointment. true, it was an 'easy read' and I found myself longing to see what the main characters would do...but over all, it was far from her best book.. fan's of Philippa will want to read it and I an glad that I did, but as far as an overall review, it was a stretch.Hopefully her next book will be more developed.

Kept me enthralled from the first page. Certainly gave me a feeling for the lives of the women of this period of history. The bravery of Jacquetta equaled that of her husband and the greatest knights of the time.

Like the author says, many of us readers, didn't know a lot about the life of Jaquetta, and as you read, you understand much better, why things happened the way they did in relation to the "cousin's war".
Thank you Mrs. Gregory, for this extraordinary book.

THE LADY OF THE RIVERS had many historical facts and was a love story. It

Other than the earliest writings of Philippa, this has to be one of THE most boring! I can't believe I even finished this book! The author's note in the back was more interesting than the actual book.

I chose this book after watching the series, "The White Queen". The story is full of adventure and history. It must have been terrible to live with all that war. The love stories contrasted well with the loveless marriages. I recommend this book to both history lovers and romantic enthusiasts.

Normally I'm a huge Philippa Gregory fan. This book, however, felt like reading a history book at times. I could have done without reading all the battle reports etc.
Still a huge Gregory fan because I know what magic she can work with words though!
