I enjoyed this book. As other reviewers have pointed out, it is somewhat unbelievable at times, but as I think of it as a fantasy book rather than a historical or romance. The plot moves quickly without overdone emotional angst and I will definitely be proceeding with this series.
Although the book isn't overloaded with sexual content, it does contain graphic sexual scenes. What I did not like was the overdone coarse language and behavior which occasionally rendered the sexual component almost bestial. Not for me to judge if you like that sort of thing. After I got the gist of it, I mostly skimmed over that dialogue.

While on a mission in Afghanistan USAF Captain Kinley Chandler received wounds over a major portion of her body. Serious organ damage, immeasurable pain and PTSD further complicate matters. She is in constant pain and refuses pain meds - she doesn't want to be here anymore. A new therapist decides Kinley may respond favorably with a change of scenery so she takes her off base to a scenic location for their session.
The therapist steps away for a moment and that is when Kinley begins moving her wheelchair down a path, she suddenly finds herself falling. Everything looks strange. Then she questions whether she is falling, dying or if her PTSD is kicking in. When she makes a hard landing and looks around, everything is different - she is in a strange location and environment which she can't explain and she "feels" different and confused about everything. Clearly she has changed, but not in a way the therapist envisioned.
Immediately she hears noise and sees a warrior separated from his team. He is being attacked by six men so Kinley does what she was trained to do, protect and defend. The consequences of her actions create a shift and set things in motion that have the potential of changing more than the battle outcome. Her first response was to save the man and while doing so she took down not one, but six vampires -- with fire....coming out of her hands! After saving the man's life, she looses consciousness and wakes some time later to discover she is immersed in a land of druids, vampires and immortals. No one was mores surprised than Kinley.
This unusual beginning is a preview to an emotional and visual tapestry of things beyond the concept of "normal."
Upon awakening, Kinley learns the man she saved is none other than Lachlan McDonnal, laird of the clan...and he is all man and very easy on the eyes. The feeling seems to be mutual because Lachlan wants Kinley and not just for her "torchy hands." Seems she roused something in him he thought died centuries ago. There is definitely chemistry between these two warriors which makes for very good reading....not to mention various standout characters ranging from heart stopping heroes to lascivious demons and let's not forget the snake that likes to come out and play.
There is love, lust and evil in this story, as well as a history that spans almost 2000 years that begs the question, "Was Kinley sent 800 years back in time to save her or the clan? Or was it to make all of them whole again?"
Hopefully this fabulous story is not the last in the saga of Pritanis, druids, and vamps.
I received a reader copy in exchange for an honest review. This was a heart-stopping, thrill ride from beginning to end - I loved every character, every page and everything about this story. Job very well done and in my opinion, the author has earned all five stars.

Hazel Hunter has outdone herself! I can't tell you how excited I am that she has written a full length novel! While still a paranormal romance this book has a different feel from her other works. We aren't left with multiple cliff hangers so the story line has a smoother feel to it and delivers some sleepless nights. The characters are relatable, well rounded, and likeable. They share an experience that is relevant to today's culture even though the story takes place in a time gone by...and has vampires in it. As usual, HH has done her homework to give us as many historical facts as possible while spinning a romantic tale built in a world of magic. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I really wanted this to be a great start to the series but it is pretty average. There were a few unexpected twists I was not expecting which is nice but the writing and relationship between the characters does not have much depth. That being said there are super hot Scots and hot sexy times so it is fun for that. I am going to give the next one in the series a try because I really do want to like this series. I hope the writing and general depth of story telling improves.

The world-building and character-building in this book are outstanding, you get transported back in time right alongside Kinley and the adventure of a lifetime ensues with Kinley and Lachlan as your companions. I loved both Kinley and Lachlan, the relationship between them is believable and I really liked the mutual respect as well as their romance. Each fills a space in the other's life and their journey together will keep you glued to the pages and on the edge of your seat. Cannot wait to read the next in the series.

I just stumbled across this series and I am thoroughly hooked.
Kinley Chandler's body is a broken mess and she wants nothing more than to end it all when she makes the attempt only to find herself restored to her former health and in another time.
She ends up saving the life of the clan laird by a power she didn't know she had. She does not have it easy in this new time and they have no idea what the markings on her body mean. This was a fun read to see how they adapt to each other and overcome differences.

Oh mi gosh I loved it! Right from the beginning it pulled me in. Great characters and exciting plot line. Also a full length, over 200 pagess, novel. I was so tired of reading serials. This one has an ending, but sets up for the next book. I can't wait!

This book actually has an extremely interesting story laced with bedroom elements, rather than the usual normally found in these type of "romance" tales. The plot actually kept me reading: I felt the characters were well developed and the writing helped me care about what was happening. I appreciated the fact that the heroine was more flesh and blood, dealing with PTSD & grappling with the twist her life had taken...SO MUCH BETTER than most of the sappy storylines I've had recommended to me. This is the first time I can honestly say that I can hardly wait to read more by this author.

That was fun! What could be wrong with time travel and super-hot highlanders. Kinley finds herself 800 years in the past and lands right in the middle of a battle. When the highland leader, Lachlan, finds himself surrounded, Kinley jumps in to save him. He decides she belongs to him (he owes a life debt). First they have to defeat the bad guys, find the spy and stand against the druids. Great story. I'm in for the sequel, sight unseen. Don't miss this. It's NOT about time travel and its not about highlanders. Its about 2 people from different worlds finding each other.

Who every tried to write this was wasting their time. If anyone writes about any time period, they should at least do some basic research. I know that is is fiction but she was too lazy to do any research at all. I am 69 and I have been reading for many, many years and this was a total waste of time and did not even read a total of twenty pages. There were too many mistakes in the few that I read, even the military stuff. I am an Air Force vet so I know what I am talking about.

I was riveted to read this story, page by page, without being able to put it down until I had read the last word! This book is artfully crafted and uniquely designed to pull you into the storyline with the characters and experience their adventures like I was right there along side of them and it was a wonderful ride into the pages where secrets are stored and adventures are in abundant!

I loved this story. The plot puts a new twist on time travel! The narration gives that extra flair to the books. This author did a great job with the details of her character builds. A job well done! I previously read Brennus by this author and come to love her style of writing. I will definitely be reading any more books I come across by this author. I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

What an amazing read! I stumbled onto this author and set of books. I love time travel books and love Scotland. How you managed to put Druids, vampires, magic, mystery, intrigue and such emotion in there too is beyond amazing. I devoured this entire set in less than 2 weeks. In fact, didn't come back to write this review until I finished the set.
I read reviews to see if I want to read the books. I promise you will not be disappointed. I plan on getting her other books and reading them as well. Unlike a lot of romance novels, they don't hate each other or fight their attraction or love for very long, which I really appreciate.

Loved it. Lachlan and his clan are immortals in the 14th century that fight the undead. Kinley is a wounded soldier on the brink of death in the 21st century.
They meet up when druid magic brings Kinley back to Lachlan's time totally healed.
They must fight to save the mortals from the undead while trying to figure out why Kinley all of the sudden has fire that shots out of her hands.
This a great book. I see that this is part of a trilogy but I already wish that there would be many more than three.

I'm very familiar with the authors work and have eagerly waited for this new series. It did not disappoint, the time travel theme with a wounded female veteran with PTSD, that was definitely something new. The fact that it was back to Scotland, home of some mouth watering, immortal highlanders, just the right bonus. We get Roman vampires, druids and a thousand year old rivalry, it's just good fun. Can't wait for book two.

This fantastic book has everything! Scorching erotic romance, time-travel, mysteries, traitors, vile evil-doers, normal humans, immortals, and a beautiful love story. I even shed some tears. but we do get our HEA at the end. Oh, and there is a bit of humor, too.
The best part is that there will be an Immortal Highlander #2!
I received this book as an advanced reader's copy. I was under no obligation to write a review, but I could not resist. The opinions written are all my own.

I rarely review books, mainly as I don't generally read reviews as I figure no one knows my taste in books, so I don't really care what someone else's tastes are. However as the author has requested a review, here goes... I enjoyed this book, it caught my interest quickly. Nice alpha hero and a heroine who was also strong and not a wimp, involved in a good strong storyline. The book was a nice blend of romance and paranormal aspects. For those who don't read a lot of historical type stuff there was a little "dictionary" at the back for unfamiliar terms and a short pronunciation key for a few of the unusual names for those that are annoyed by not knowing how to say a name each time it appears in a book (which includes me). Overall, I would have to say nice job, Ms. Hunter, and I'll be looking for the next book in the series, which for me is the highest praise.

Just released this week! I read just the preview of the first few chapters, but the whole novel was released this week.
Kinley Chandler is a dying Air Force veteran in a VA hospital. She was injured in an ambush in Afghanistan. She tries to kill herself and falls through a portal to a stone ring in 14th century Scotland. She is totally healed in the process as well as given the power to call fire to fight the undead Romans.
Lachlan, Laird of the clan McDonnel, is an immortal who the Romans previously slaughtered along with all his people. The druids cast a spell and brought them back as immortals because they were protecting the druids at the time. Lachlan has a bodyguard named Tharaen who is saved later in the book by Kinley. During that incident both Tharaen and Lachlan seen her injured form and finally believe her whole story about the future and her experience.
The pace is fast. The characters are interesting and individuals. The story line is interesting and sets things up really well for the series to follow. The men are big and strong, but not brutes. The women are smart and sexy. The sex is hot! The ending has lots of potential for more to follow but is not a cliffhanger.
This has the potential to be a really interesting series with some interesting characters. The writing is quite good and kept me engaged. Now I need to get the whole first book to read to see where Lachlan and Kinley go from here! Get your copy and find out for yourself. Recommended.

I am really not sure why so many people are giving this 5 stars. I got through roughly a third of the book and was bored to death. There are tons of side stories, the majority of the book is not even about the heroine. I get that the author is building up to the twist and has to explain the background details but there is very little focus on the hero and heroine which is a big disappointment to me. Gave it 2 stars because the aurhor does a good job with the Scottish details (architecture, language, customs etc).

Absolutely stunning story. I'm not usually one for the time travel romance novels, but this changed my mind. I love it. Sign me up for the next trip through an enchanted grove so i can land in the lap of a hot highlander. Stellar characters and vivid writing style makes you feel like you are standing on the edge of the loch ready to do battle right along side the characters. So looking forward to the next book.

Sexy Highlander's, Scottish brogue, time travel, paranormal, did I mention Sexy Highlander's?? If I could time travel and have one of my own I think I would. The H&h are great together and the way the two grow as characters is heartwarming in many ways. It had me sad, happy, angry and every emotion in between. I love when a book is good enough that it makes you have varying emotions. This is a good book and I am so happy I read it!

Brawny warriors, modern day heroin, fairies, and vampires. Yes I said vampires. Our female modern day hero goes back in time to encounter Scots --immortal warriors in a battle against blood thirsty creatures under a curse by the fairies. If u want to know more u have to read the series. I liked this book enough to continue to the next. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

I voluntarily reviewed this absolutely exciting, interesting, entertaining, drama filled mystical story this is a must read fantastic beginning to a new series you definitely don't want to miss. Kinley Chandler was a Captain in the Air Force who had been badly injured her therapist took her up the mountain to get her out of the hospital she left her for a moment to get her phone Kinley rolled the wheelchair close to the edge hoping she would plummet to her death but it was like she fell through a rabbit hole coming trough time in the 14th century 8 centuries back from her time when she landed by some sacred stones she found she was completely healed. Kinley heard loud metal clanging and men's voices when she peeked up from her hiding place she could see Warriors fighting against Romans but they were really the undead they were fighting. There is so much that happens in the amazing story you have to get this book Hazel Hunter is a phenominal story writer she can really write one terrific story that holds your interest till the very end the characters were all fantastic, funny, loved how they spoke to one another the storyline was a journey of epic proportions there are mystical creatures which totally make this story very intriguing I higjly recommend end love all Hazel Hunter's books can't wait for the bext book in its series Tharaen Aber and Diana the excerpt sounded great to there story.

The constantly changing POV with different characters was very difficult to follow. I sometimes had trouble understanding what was going on. The author needed to stick to the main male and main female POV only and warn the reader whose POV your reading the moment that it changes. Also needs more character development. The story was overall very good and I am willing to give the second book of try.

I liked the starting female captain. Found several poorly researched facts in the first 2 chapters. Continued to read hoping it would get better. I could not get past the first several chapters. The perverse sadistic violence and women portrayed as cheep street hookers left me feeling like I needed a bath. I'm planning to steer clear of this author in the future.

I was looking for something to read - taking a break from IR romances and this was on Kindle Unlimited. Glad I chose it. I enjoyed that the female character was a warrior - a smart soldier before she was thrust back in time. That made her a bad-a$$ woman in the 14th century who earned respect by cleverness, strength and courage. Looking forward to the next one.

This book and the characters that are inside will make you think you are right there along side them. Time travel? Yes. A hot Highlander? Yes. A bad ass female soldier? Yes. What’s not to love about Hazel Hunter’s series called immortal Hylander book? It’s action-packed, Full of great looking highlanders, lots of druids, good guys, and bad guys that are really bad. I’d take any of the Highlanders on Skye. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

As always another great story by Hazel Hunter.
Kinley showed amazing strength and Lachlan amazing patience and understanding. I really liked Raen and Neac's characters, Evander irritated the living daylights out of me though.
Based on the blurb, I didn't expect a HEA, however I was very pleasantly surprised.
Overall it is definitely worth reading.

It was a totally new story for me. Undead Romans vs. Highlanders. It was all too much though. Too many names, each character had three names and a title and were called something different depending on who was saying their name, I was totally confused and had to go back several times to see who the devil we were talking about. Including the bloody horses!
Too many powers. The undead and the immortal highlanders had magical powers coming out their ears. It was just too much, too far fetched. Some magical powers for a supernatural book, bring 'em. But this was just way over the top.
It wasn't all bad. The writing was solid and very descriptive in a fantastic way. The story was completely different.
Just wasn't for me. Too many names, confusing. Too many 'you can do that too?'s.
And a minor note that the torture device mentioned is hundreds of years before its time to mention one specific. So not wholly accurate historically for the time.
All that being said, it was a good book. Great writing, in depth plot, well developed characters, relatable. But just too much for me.

The main characters are well written and very interesting and work well with the plot. Steamy, sexy, witty story that grabs you and pulls you in to a world you'll never want to leave. Ms Hunter knows exactly how to captivate her readers. I look forward to reading more of this series.

I have truly enjoyed this book.
It's filled with bravery and honor, magic and love so healing.
Ms. Hunter embraces a fallen soldier like one should be embraced. The highlander and the lady veteran. Wow its simply amazing. I can't wait to read the next one.
My humble thanks to those who serve and a writer who honors them in such a fabulous way.

A very strong well rounded book of interesting characters and plot twist to keep you hooked. I particularly enjoyed the heroine Kinley. I loved that she is an injured combat vet. For me, she was more realistic therefore I cared more about her. If you enjoy a strong female, great plot, sexy hero and fun fantasy then this is a book for you!!

I really loved this book. Kinley a female disabled VA with Druid ancestry finds a time portal to the past that heals her. She finds her big, beefy, sexy highlander Lachlan. Who just so happens to be immortal! Her Combat experience in S & R gets put to the test in the past wowing his clan, winning his heart. Everyone wins.

The intro to this book just doesn't describe how amazing it is! Kinley is a warrior, and I can't put into words how much I loved her! Strong, fierce, and loyal, she fits well into the McDonnell clan.
The story is excellent! I liked everything about it-the warriors, the druids, the Isle of Skye. This is definitely a must-read book!

I'm all for time travel romance and this story gave me that. True that the druids and tattoos and vampires were unexpected. I still enjoyed it. However I'm not a fan of switching POV, feel like that creates too much happening, distracting and taking away from the storyline. Kinley was amazing.

The story took me by surprise and went a route that I had not considered. It was a wild ride, touching and fun. What a touching relationship grows between a “future” character and one from the very distant past. Looking forward to book 2!

Hazel Hunter has created a compelling world that brings together time travel, Scottish highlanders, druids, and vampires. The character development is deep and the story keeps me glued to the page. I have found the storyline so intriguing that I cannot put the book down (to the detrement of my textbooks!). If you like strong heroines, dark and mysterious heroes, and villians that keep you guessing, I highly recommend this very original series by Hazel Hunter.

A great start for a new series. Magic and vampires in the highland, it doesn't get much better than that. The main characters are well written and very interesting and work well with the plot. The Immortal Highlander series was surprisingly good. I began with Lachlan and have read them all. Can't wait for Gavin. The storyline is super interesting, the romances are always good, and the continuing saga of a war with the undead is quite fascinating. I highly recommend the entire series.

The story was riveting. It kept me turning pages until the end. I love how you made the heroine strong, smart, and someone who could contribute to the cause. Having dealt with PTSD myself it was good to see her come back from it. The story line was fascinating and the fight against good and evil is always a blood plot.

I love books about highland warriors, throw in a heroin that is not a whiny brat and I just might stick around. Then on top of that add in immortality and vampires, and I'm hooked.
The story was interesting and although there was the almost instant attraction turned to love aspect, I didn't feel rushed through a plot just to get to the sex part. The book was well written and the characters had enough depth to keep me interested and ready to pick up the next book.

Kinely was a great heroine. She was tough and knew what she was good at and didn’t let anyone push her around. She as a great match for Lachlan.

So, again strong female lead, military woman, lots of training & close to death. Her psychiatrist takes her for a walk in her wheelchair & just as USAF Cpt. Kinley thinks she is done, the pain is gone and her life is over . . . . this book really takes off.

I love reading Scottish historical romance and thought I would give this one a try. It has time travel in but thought I'd give it a shot anyway. Made it to chapter 4 and couldn't go on. When the author put an unnecessary scientific element in there is where I could not go on. If it was a sifi book I could understand it but it is suppose to be a Scottish historical travel romance. If you want a very unexpected element then this is the book for you. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Love the concept, seemed a bit of a far stretch for the Romans to be undead. Hmm, what happens when Kinsley, now immortal, lives long enough to be caught up with herself? A bit too much descriptive sex for my taste, so be warned if that is a problem for you. Good read!

Enjoyable read. I liked that Kinley has some grit to her and isn't portrayed as some bubble-headed damsel in distress. I always appreciate strong female characters, even in a romance novel. Kinley must deal with some strong emotions in relation to her injuries and PTSD. She wasn't just a lust bunny. I would liked to have seen her gift play more predominantly in the storyline, as well as her druid heritage. I plan to continue with the series.

This whole series is incredibly well written. Hazel Hunter's descriptive yet spare writing style let me know and admire Kinley well after just a few pages. Time travel, druids and magic, highlanders all combine to keep me on the edge of my seat. I love fantasy and romance but I did not like this book. The main character was interesting and I liked her, but the story was just too contrived and far fetched to real me in. The romance was just stated without any buildup, tension or significant interaction. Even the “steamy” parts were average at best. I am also not a fan of the side romance where a man abuses a woman and she falls in love with him.

For me that means it's something I'm really going to love! I was not disappointed. At first I didn't know if I'd like to read about an injured vet who wanted to die but this author made it amazing. Don't get me wrong that's very little of the story. The rest is awe inspiring and romantic and oddly real. You need to prepare yourself not to sleep, not to clean, or answer your phone or anything else until you get thru this book. It's that good! I can't wait for more of this series. It started out wonderfully. The main character was emotionally and physically wounded from war and it was a breath of fresh air compared to other romance novels I've read where the heroine is a historian or art dealer or musician. But once she met Lachlan and the rest of the clan, it went from unique to just odd. I never understood why Kindly loved Lachlan. What was it about his personality that she loved because there was more description about his physique than his personality. There really was no romance or development of feelings beyond lust between the two. I did like that Kinley continued to battle PTSD and remained a strong character that didn't fall into the usual simpering heroine. I also have a problem with Evander as early on he hated women in general but he fell in love with Fiona...and that also was never fleshed out fully. He just...was. The sex scenes were really graphic which is fine so long as there is some type of romance and tenderness somewhere at some point. This could have been an excellent book had the author allowed the characters to be fully developed into people with personality. The novel also ended abruptly and I was surprised that nothing was really resolved. Disappointed but it was an entertaining read.

This book grabs you from the first page. We first meet Kinley, an Air Force captain with devastating war injuries that will probably be fatal... eventually. It's obvious that she's given up, but fate has other plans for her. She meets Lachlan in the middle of a battle in 14th century Scotland with the lost 9th Roman legion. (God, I love history!) This book was a real page turner. I liked the connection between Lachlan and Kinley. Despite them living in an era where women aren't soldiers, Lachlan respected Kinley's opinions about battle strategies. Badass heroine meets bader-ass highlander with a heart. Lovable characters, great plot, druids and vampires! Can't wait for book 2.

Lachlan is a fantasy about a mortal woman, Capt. Kinley Chandler of the present, who arrives on the Isle of Skye. There she meets Lachlan the Laird of the McDonnell clan and what a meeting it is.
Even though a fantasy, the characters make you forget that and you are wrapped up in their story.

Most of all, it’s got something that is harder to find in most books: authentic characters and some witty dialogue. I could not finish this book because of the graphic sexual assault material. I think this book should come with a warning about that. It is a pity, because the story of Kinley and Lachlan was intriguing and well written. I guess I also don't like books that spend too much time on villains' POV. So the book felt too dark and violent to finish.

I enjoyed this book, particularly that it was a longer length novel. It is clearly a Hazel Hunter story, so although it may not contain witches, the Magus Corps and Templars, it has clearly identifiable heroes and villains, with the addition of a heroine, Kinley, who starts from a point I thought was very interesting, and certainly unusual, even for stories in the fantasy genre. I would have liked Kinley to have discussed her loneliness with Lachlen a little more, simply because I think that might have been an interesting counterpoint to Lachlan's own situation, but that's just because I like that kind of dialogue to move things along in a relationship! I like the fact that there are characters that I'm still not sure of, and I look forward to reading more of the series in the future.

The Roman legions were a bit much for me as bad guys. I guess it just seemed to kind of pile on n the plot twists. I’m not sure what I would have put in their place, maybe just common ordinary blood suckers.

That is what you get. I liked the story, for the most part, even though I am not keen on undead stories as a whole. Lachlan is all that a Highlander should be-fierce, proud, unabashedly male. Kinley is another matter. She readily accepts concepts that would freak out most time traveling mortals, and I believe it was for the sake of keeping g the story f!owing. Too bad, because the book could have benefited from another fifty plates and a little more time developing her character. Lastly...way too much vulgarity in this story. Not sure if I will continue the series as I don't role-playing sex in romance books, let alone vulgar language.

Though time travel romances are somewhat formulaic simply due to the nature of the device, I really liked that the details of “Lachlan” were neither formulaic nor predictable. I took off a half star because I believe the sex scenes are overly raw and graphic.
