Saw a book from later in the series and found the excerpt intriguing. I found out it was a series and thought I would start from the beginning. This book is well written, I could feel the characters' emotions, and was sucked into the story line.

Great read! Love the similarities between BDB and IAD, but the differences are what make them a fantastic read. The females have certain abilities which make them anything but helpless, it's nice to see a male have to work for it!

This book was in the beginning of the series but I didn't read until after Lothaire. It reminded me of what I love the series so much. I recommend this series very highly. I haven't read one I didn't like.

I got this for the teaser it had in it for the upcoming "Lothaire." I've already read it, but of course had to read it again. I love this series. Love all the characters. The teaser for Lothaire was enough to drive me mad!

If there was any plot beyond these two characters wanting and having sex, it was well-hidden. Yuck. I have enjoyed others in this series, Lothaire especially, which was witty, with great dialogue and an interesting story arc.

This story about a vampire-warlord, left in a certain state by his 'true love' is quite interesting if you never read Kresly Cole before (it is a bit of a repetition of her other stories.) Kresley Cole is the ultimate fantasy story-teller and I admire her fantasy ideas greatly. The 3-star could not become a 4-star because I found myself a bit cheated by its shortness and the fact that it already had been published in a 'short' story book a few years ago.

First, let me say that I am neither familiar with Laurel K Hamilton and Anita Blake, nor have I ever experienced an audiobook or any other type outside traditional and kindle books. I bought this novella in spite of the negative reviews I saw because I have already read the rest of the IAD stories and am seriously contemplating spending $11.99 for the next installation (& outside of one really-the latest..Dreams of a Dark Warrior-I have truly enjoyed this addictive series), and I am glad I ignored those poor reviews. At the end of the day, it all comes down to taste. I love an excellent story ESPECIALLY if there's an erotica/romantica aspect involved, and while I think this is certainly the hottest thing I have read by Cole, there are others out there who blow her out of the water in that dept. Yes, it's hot compared to her full length stuff, but I liked that about it. It was a great change of pace (I know this was the first one, but since I read it last, it felt like a change, especially after the latest one which I gave only 2.5 stars-in my head). Yes, there is quite a bit of hotness in this one, but there is also a lot of story to go along with, including allusions to things in stories to follow. No, there aren't as many fight scenes and she doesn't drag out the sexual tension to the point of frustration as she has in many of her other books, but I think for a novella, she gave a perfect balance for my particular tastes. I really liked this one and decided to give a review since there seems to be a few bad ones based solely on the performances of the actors doing the reading rather than the actual story. I think it's kind of unfair to the author and to the story itself to judge it based on that. Plus, I believe it sort of pollutes the ratings.

I would definitely recommend this story, and I think that others should try it as well-maybe just not in audio format. At $1.99 for Kindle, I think it's an AWESOME deal given that it's nearly the length of some other authors' actual books (furthest location=2065). My only complaint about the series and what kept me from giving this five stars, and this isn't an issue with KC only but with several of my faves, is the lack of color in this and the rest of her stories. As a black woman I find, what I consider the general ethnic-deficiency in literature a total shame, but I won't go there today other than to say to Cole, if she reads these reviews, that given your chosen setting for the majority of the IAD series, I find it rather disconcerting that in nearly a dozen stories based out of New Orleans, not ONCE has anyone encountered someone of color. Just saying... No. Really. ;-) I mean it IS NOLa, and if anyone has ever been, as I have many times given I have fam there and all over the South, they would see where my confusion might stem from. And I'm not saying your main shero has to be AA or Latina, etc. but it would be nice in one of your stories if maybe one of her homegirls was. Just a splash of color here and there would be great and IMO (emphasis on M), would definitely elevate your stories even higher and add more authenticity to them. I mean, we DO live in an extremely diverse and multi-cultural world here. Why not reflect that in your writings? Again, just saying... I know it's fiction, and paranormal at that, but am I supposed to suspend my belief on that note as well? I don't know...

Nonetheless, I'm glad I purchased this. It was a great after-dinner treat for Tofurkey Day that kept me up half the night before tryptophan got the better of me, but I awoke and finished the story which compelled me to review. Others reading this should give the story a try. I'm glad I ignored those bad reviews, particularly the ones due to the quality of the audio version, and gave it a chance. As far as the eroticism of book, that's hit or miss and all in how hot you like your story. I will say this, I am now going to look into those other two authors mentioned above to see if they rate anywhere near Cole's talent in my book. I tried an author who was likened to KC in a review for another of her books. I won't mention who because I really don't like to speak badly of others or give unfavorable ratings unless something is truly awful, but I will say that her work was nowhere NEAR the caliber of Cole's. So hopefully people will give this one a try with an open mind and enjoy it. Happy Reading!

Note** As many others have said in their reviews, you don't NEED to read the books in order to get them or even to enjoy them. However, having started them out of order only to backtrack halfway through and begin again at AHLNO, I can't stress reading them in order enough. It just makes the series sooooo much better since the stories overlap and some parts happen concurrently.

I have not read any of the novels in this series, but as a stand-alone short, this falls flat for me (also see below). Specifically, the exposition/infodumping in the first half (all that I finished) is far too dense. If the reader needs this much background, it should either be a simpler story or a longer one. That, and a lot of the exposition explains the very specific details that have to be true for the story to work out the way it does.

Then it hits my mind-control button. I am ok with reading about forced sex. I am ok with reading about mind control. I am not okay with reading about forced sex that the recipient enjoys due to mind control.

It started out so interesting. Then deteriorated from there. The dialogue is just dull and boring. She talks like a snarky teenager. I like tough and smart mouth heroines. But this one just feels like too full of herself.

I was looking forward to reading a book about vampires. But this one is just about sex (and not even fun ones) and a way too big headed demigod.

I'm not even going to bother with the rest of this series. What a waste of $2.

This book is, in a word, terrible. I've read the entire IAD series, and I'm looking forward to Lothaire more than a little, but this drivel? Was embarrassing. The story made very little sense, there was zero character development, and the sex was...kind of creepy. It also seemed like the book contradicted mythology set out in other books.
I'm not sure why Kresley Cole felt the need to write a prequel; it's not like this series is high fiction that requires a backstory. And it's not like this book actually provided any. Don't bother with this one; it adds absolutely nothing to the series.

I love Kresley Cole, Really I do. I've read every book she's written. I figured I'd try her on tape. Gotta say, this would be great if the male lead didn't sound lik triumph the insult comic dog. When you should be getting into the heat of the scene, your too busy laughing at how ridiculous the guys accent sounds.
Overall though its a good performance. The female lead is spot on.

I'm pretty sure this is probably a great book. But I will never know since I am not allowed to finish it. the store has replaced the content with a sample of another book called Lothaire. So I paid for a free sample with the wrong cover. After attempting to get the right book several times (I finally did for a few hours) every time my device syncs the content is replaced with Lothaire again. Ive tried several devices and the result is always the same. So from my point of view this book sucks and is a rip off.

This didnt start out so good. I was kinda confused like I was missing something major. Almost like I got started in the middle. Thats not even my main issue with this book. First books in the start of a series can be rough. I just cant get over how much I detested both Myst and Nikolai. They both did some pretty horrible things to each other knowing how wrong it was! As much as I dont like what Myst did to him I really didnt like what he did with her. Forcing her and taking her will away with her necklace just all kinds of wrong. Forcing her to do things submitting like a dog in my opinion. Yeah she deserved a little bit of revenge but I think he could have done something different. Even when it came to the "claiming" I wasnt at all happy how that transpired. It was pretty close to rape but at some point during it she was ok with it. I mean really? Ugh. I just couldnt get on board with these 2. To be fair I liked everything else about this book BUT these 2 and how they acted towards each other. What I really want to do is call it quits and not read anymore of this series. I'm that turned off which is rare. Seeing how its a book 1 and I am promised by a couple friends it gets better I might be willing to try the next. Not anytime soon though.

I read the “The Warlord Wants Forever,” in the Playing Easy to Get anthology. To me, because it is not a full-length novel and it feels like a prequel to the series, it should be #.5 of the Immortals After Dark series, but Goodreads lists it as #1 in the series, so I’ll have to go with that.

The basic story line is that Nikolai finds out his mate is a Valkyrie named Myst. She has no interest in settling down; she’s more interested in toying with him as part of a larger plan to spy on the vampire leader. She does something cruel to Nikolai that makes him suffer for a very long time until he is able to find her.

When he finds her, he is aggressive and almost takes what he wants. This might turn some readers off, but Cole made him a sympathetic enough character, so I wasn’t particularly bothered by his demanding approach regarding her needing to fix what she had caused. On the other hand, I wasn’t particularly taken by him enslaving her or by her deciding to use sex as a way to solve her problem.

Overall, though, the story was well-written and it has a happy ending. If you like stories where a strong woman is willing to relinquish control to a man because he’s the first one who has been strong enough to take her on, you’d like this one. That particular aspect didn’t appeal to me. However, I appreciated how Cole made it all believable, including the character’s motivations and reasoning. Also, it’s hard to deny the hotness of this story.

I know I am really late getting into this series. Most of you have probably already read it. If you haven’t, I recommend checking it out if you like paranormal romances with strong characters, sexy vampires, and aggressive sex.

This book is for mature audiences (18+) due to sexual content.

*This review may contain mild spoilers for some*

This book's main character has a very unique race I'm not sure I've read about before; Valkyrie. Basically, if a female warrior prayed to/for lightning in their last moments of life, a Valkyrie would be born. Pretty neat stuff, but that's not even the end of all the amazing races in this novella. It's also full of vampires, fae, nymphs, demigods, werewolves, demons and more!

Oh, and the vampires in this book are unlike any other vampires I've read about. They don't have heartbeats until they find their soul mates. They also aren't able to have sex until this happens. Then, when the males find the one, they will perform a blooding. Which is pretty much his need to have sex/drink from her, but the urge is pretty mighty! (I guess the last part is kind of like all the other vampire books... but the heartbeat/soul mate thing is neat!)

Wroth is a total babe of a vampire warrior, who is in search of his soul mate so that he can gain strength from the blooding. Myst is a total seductress who isn't entirely sure of what she wants, but she's had a crush on Wroth since he was a human. Fate brings them together in a cute way, and a really enjoyable story unfolds. There are quite a few witty jabs in this that actually made my giggle aloud. The chemistry and banter between these two are wonderful.

Myst, has another unique quality besides being a Valkyrie. She has a gold chain (a brisingamen) around her body, that in unable to be taken off of her. Myst only says it's for punishment and protection, but it was a cool little addition to this story.

Overall, this was a wonderful little read, that made me really excited to continue on with the rest of this series. They hint at the mystical "Lore" a lot, which I'm guessing is just their magic world, but they also bring up a Lore Queen that I want to know more about. And please, please, give me more Wroth.

I have read and listened to this book several times now and it's still one of my favourites. The story is fun, hot, light-hearted, romantic and thoroughly entertaining. It got me hooked right away and it still, after a few years now, has the power to excite. I recently found out that the audiobook was re-done with Robert Petkoff as narrator. I can't praise this man's talent enough. He does the PERFECT interpretation of Cole's writing. Especially when it's about working out the humourous side of conversations and situations. If you haven't read this series yet: I do recommend it highly. Start with this book, either in written or audible format. Both versions are fantastic.

First time I’ve read her work…where the hell have I been?

This was a very interesting read and one I totally didn’t expect. Wroth is a vampire who cannot have sex because he hasn’t been “blooded” by his true mate. Myst is a Valkyrie. Valkyrie and vampires are enemies. Ruh-roh! Wroth captures Myst during a battle. She escapes, but not before “blooding” him. Now Wroth considers Myst his true mate and stops at nothing to have her.

I must admit, I felt sorry for poor Wroth. He’s finally able to have sex, yet his true mate skips out on him. His dedication at finding her is admirable although she left him in a very compromising and uncomfortable position.

I wasn’t sure if I’d like Myst since she didn’t appeal to me at first. But through Ms. Cole’s writing, I came to accept and enjoy her. She’s a fighter, strong and independent, yet alone and in need of someone to love. Wroth is loyal to a fault, dedicated, strong and wanting to find the person who’ll complete him. Together, after much fighting and misunderstanding, they find their way to each other.

Loved the world building, secondary characters, and Ms. Cole’s writing style. I’ll be visiting Ms. Cole’s work again.

Focused. Strong. True.

I will never understand the appeal of rape fantasy. Everything in this book from the violent non-consensual sex to the women telling herself that she 'liked it' when he 'took control of her' screamed domestic violence. Just gross. I expected to see this in romance books written in the 70s... but now? Such a disappointment too considering the potential of the valkyrie mythology and the early world building appearing in this novel. I won't read more.

This is a great story. I've actually read this before (I think this is my 4th reread?) and loved it enough that I continued the series.

Myst is a Valkyrie and Nikolai is a (turned instead of born) Vampire and those 2 breeds usually don't mix. The story description gives the gist of the story and I don't want to get into spoilers but I will say that despite how things started, Nikolai and Myst find a bond between them and manage to get past their initial preconceived notions and misunderstandings to cement that bond. While I hurt for them both when things were rough, I loved how things ended and their HEA.

I greatly enjoyed this story! I loved both Nikolai and Myst and was rooting for them to work things out from the beginning. Things weren't always easy between them but I was so happy they worked things out in the end. Overall, I thought this was a great story and would recommend it. :D

* This reread was achieved through listening to the audio version of the story. There were 2 narrators, a female for the parts from Myst's PoV and a male for the parts from Nikolai's PoV. I think both did a very good job.

Funny, endearing, swoon worthy, sweet, HOT, and such a great story. Did I mention it was hot, yes? Ok, well it was. hot without being over sexed (I feel like my gma saying 'over sexed' , but it's appropriate) It wasn't pervy like a lot of paranormal stories are. Anyways, it has a great story, I couldn't put it down. I DIDN'T put it down. Oh, and also, read the private texts between the author and her author buddies at the end of the book. Lol'ing y'all (it's a word!)

This is my third time to read this series and I will be more diligent in leaving reviews this time. I love this author's writing and have not read a book by her that I did not thoroughly enjoy. This short introduction to the series had me laughing at the Valkyrie antics. I am always wrapped up by the dark hero vampire - yummy!!! The introduction to the Lore and what might be coming in future books is enough to keep me reading this series until she runs out of characters. I liked the way Nikolai learned of his Bride and then was taught how to appreciate her. I liked the way Myst fought her way to loving this vampire. I would have given in much sooner :-) Being from LA this author can't go wrong bringing NOLA into the series. A delicious place for paranormal activities and the Lore. The interested reader needs to remember the individuals in this first book as they will return in the future books and have vital parts. Essentially I am re reading this entire series to write my reviews because they were so good the first time I was unable to stop to leave the review. Had to keep reading.

the-warlord-wants-forever-immortals-after-dark-kresley-coleThe beautiful Valkyrie, Myst, watches from her prison cell in the castle dungeon as the Forbearers (humans turned vampire) attack. And, with the help of one handsome dirty fighter, Wroth, they take Ivo’s castle!

And, when Wroth pays her a visit she leaves a lasting impression that leads to having her brought up to his chambers. As, she awaits rescue from her sisters, Wroth’s heart starts beating; a sign that he has found his Bride and all the power she will bring him. But then her sisters show up, and she leaves him in a state of arousal that only his Bride can cure him of.

After five years, of hell dealing with his lust that can’t be relieved, Wroth finally finds Myst once again. He is determined to make her pay for what she has put him through, but his heart quickly softens for the one person he is meant to protect. But can he ever overcome Myst’s desire to flee? Valkyries and Vampires are natural enemies, can this unlikely duo ever make things work or will they only find more ways to use one another?

I’ve heard good things about this series, and decided to give it a try, even though I wasn’t convinced it was my kind of book. But I apparently was wrong. It was exactly my kind of book!

This is a novella that was originally published in the anthology, Playing Easy to Get. It was a swift easy read that I quickly ate up in a day!

I was actually surprised with Wroth’s character most of all. When I read the synopsis and saw the title, I assumed that he’d be a domineering jerk, but he really wasn’t. Not at all. He was pretty sweet and caring throughout most of the book, even when he possessed the item that would allow him to command Myst’s every move.

I also found the idea of the vampire finding their mate or Bride making their heart and lungs work, along with making their blood course through their veins to be an interesting concept. No way for a wannabe cheater to hide his marital status, I suppose!

The sex scenes light the pages on fire. This book isn’t for the faint of heart, or those that like to keep their books PG. But if you like a lot of steamy sex scenes, then you will love this book! These two can hardly keep their hands (or other body parts) off each other, and it kept me nice and warm on a snowy day!

The Warlord Wants Forever is a promising start to this series and, I’m now adding the rest of the books to my to-read list and I can’t wait to dive in!

AH! I love this series so darn much!

This is my third go-around with it and it's all in preparation for the release of "Dark Skye"...which I might freak out about! Been a long time coming!!!

So anywho...

The Warlord Wants Forever is the beginning of the Immortals After Dark series! In which, we get a quick lesson of the Lore and some of the different fractions. We also get to follow around the adorable Myst and her now blooded vampire hubby, Wroth.

These two are incredibly sensual and amazing together! Their story is pretty short and sweet but thoroughly entertaining to boot.

(For the record...my favorite creatures in the IAD series are the Valkyrie. I just just love their ability to kick ass and be so entertaining at the same time)

I've found, from other series that I've read multiple times, that I get the most enjoyment re-reading a series the third time around. The first time is always amazing, but I tend to miss a lot of important facts. The second time is really just because I'm nerdy and want to read such a great series again. By the third time, I'm comfortable with the understanding of what is going on and I get to see facts I missed before. Hence, more enjoyable.

~The Warlock wants Forever~
~Immortals After Dark Series~
Novella

Nikolai Wroth, once a ruthless human warlord in the 1700s and now a general in the rebel vampire army, needs to find his bride, the one woman who can render him truly alive. As a turned human, he doesn't enjoy a heartbeat or breathing and is consequently weaker than fully blooded vampires. He wants his bride for the power she will bring him and can hardly believe it when his heart beats for Myst the Coveted, a mad, fey, mythological creature.

Myst is known throughout the world as the most beautiful Valkyrie, part chillingly fierce warrior, part beguiling seductress who can "make you want her even as she's killing you." She has devoted her life to protecting an ancient, powerful jewel and to fighting the vampires, and she now sees a way to torment one - for with Wroth's heartbeat comes consuming sexual desire that can only be slaked by her.

She eludes him for five years, but he has finally chased her to ground and stolen the jewel which commands her, giving him absolute power over her. While he possesses it, he can make her do anything, and he plans to in order for her to experience firsthand the agonizing, unending lust she'd purposely subjected him to for half a decade. Yet when Wroth realizes he wants more from her and frees her, will she come back to him?

Great! quick Read....I Really like this Series, I Can't Wait till the publisher Finally Releases the Rest of the Series on Unabridged Audio book Why they've waited this LONG is Beyond me!

Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark Book 1)

After reading her 'The Game Maker' series and becoming completely enthralled with it, I wanted to check out her other series. This is the 1st book of her 'Immortals After Dark' series.
I liked it, but can't say I loved it.
It was very well written. I think it was the flow of the story that took it down a notch for me. However, it still wet my appetite for her books.
So yes, I am going for book 2 in this series while I eagerly await book 3 in the 'Game Maker' series.
I am also going to check the 1st book of her other Adult series.

Opinion about the characters and plot:

This was one of the sexiest stories I read back when I discovered erotic romances.

The Hero and heroine:

Myst is a such a tease while Wroth is desperate to have and claim her- he's a major alpha! Our heroine is strong willed, sassy and stubborn. They combust together.

What brings them to interact in the book:

A dungeon.

Liked:

Myst is one of my favorite IAD heroines. She builds a wall around her and doesn't let anyone get close. Wroth leaves her vulnerable and she's forced to face their attraction and surrender.

Disliked:

I thought it was very short, I wanted more. It has a complex world for a novella!

This story is a reread for me. I initially read the book when it first came out. I enjoy the story as much as the second time I read it as I did the first.

I love possessive, jealous & protective alphas and the hero, Nikolai Wroth, certainly was. Both he and the heroine, Myst the Coveted are likable characters. The have great chemistry together and It thought that the sex scenes were hot, much hotter then some of her other stories.
The action was entertaining. At no time was I bored. I loved that both Nikolai and Myst were faithful to each other included during a 5 year separation. The ending is a HFN as the series continues. The only complaint I have is that the story stops around 65% and the remainder of the story is a sample of MacRieve.

Cole is a wildly popular paranormal romance writer and I have jumped on the bandwagon. This first story in the series is a fast paced quick read. It's a novella and not actually considered book 1, but it will help to read it first. You really need to take note of each character because you will see them as main characters in the following books. There are scenes that overlap and will be told from the vantage point of the different characters in the following books. This novella is the story of Nikolai, a Forebearer (vampire who doesn't drink from the source) and Myst the Coveted, a fierce Valkyrie who enjoys blooding vampires only to kill them after. The two meet in a dungeon that has been overtaken by Nikolai and the vampire warriors who have allegiance to Kristoff the King of the Forebearers. After being blooded by Myst and left to a unique kind of torture Nikolai must find her and claim her as his vampire bride if he wants to end his torment. Myst however does not want to be claimed. This story will definitely suck you in and make you reach for the next in the series.

Welllll. I am a big fan of the early Immortals After Dark Series Books, not of the last few that have come out. I didnt actually read this first one which was published originally in an Anthology with Gena Showalter until after I had read many of the other books. It packed a lot into a novella. I was slow to warm up to both Wroth and Myst character's. I know in a lot of paranormal romances the hero/heroines are hundreds to thousands of years old, the women always seem to adapt to the here and now and the men never seem to at all. That was the biggest piece of this story - a 300 year old vampire that cant adjust to modern times and a two thousand year old Valkyrie that talked so much slang I could not figure some of it out and who embraces all things of the modern age... He blames her for leaving him injured, when he was about to torture her in a dungeon and she saved him from the other valkyrie's? Then he kidnaps her and is about to brainwash her (her escape was wonderful!) and oh well its OK? Nah a little to easy for me... The story stands alone fine and I read the others without this with no issues. Its basically a book of misunderstandings that all work out in the end.

After listening to 15 other IAD installments that were narrated by Robert Petkoff, making it through this prequel was an uphill battle. It's my own fault for saving this one for last. Hagan Verret & Simone Fomhar were perfectly capable readers, and Nikolai & Myst's story was good, but definitely not among Kresley Coles' best. It was also shorter than what I'm used to which was another factor that made it less enjoyable than some of the full length books.

I heard a lot of great things about this series so I was really excited to finally start reading it.
I really loved this first, short intro to the series. I hope the rest of the series will be as good
but I'm sure I will because Kresley Cole has created a very rich, diverse world with lot's of magical
and supernatural beings. I can't wait to find out more about all those creatures of the Lore.

In The Warlord Wants Forever we are introduced to the Valkyrie who are strong female warriors.
We also meet the 2 sorts of vampires, the full-blood born vampires and the Forebearers, humans who
are turned into vampires.
Myst, the Valkyrie, and Nikolai Wroth, the Forebearer, were great charachters.
I hope I'll see them again in one of the following books.

Oh my what can I say about this book? It’s sexy, funny, addicting, and bloody brilliant! Kresley Cole has created a whole new world here and it’s amazingly awesome. I love how all the characters are developing and I love how in the end they will all come together. I’ve read all of this series and I’m actually doing a re-read. I love love, LOVE it. This is actually a prequel to the series, a short story involving Myst and Nikolai Wroth. Myst is known throughout the world as the most beautiful Valkyrie, part chillingly fierce warrior, part beguiling seductress who can "make you want her even as she's killing you." She has devoted her life to protecting an ancient, powerful jewel and to fighting the vampires, and she now sees a way to torment one--for with Wroth's heartbeat comes consuming sexual desire that can only be slaked by her.I found it to be an interesting story and premise for the series but it went on sexual overload near the end. As I've read the second book in the series, I highly recommend reading this first as you have a much better understanding of what's going on because of this backstory.Typical of most short stories or prequels, this was just enough to whet the appetite but not enough to immerse yourself in the characters. I'm hoping to see more of these characters in future stories in the series.

The heat level on this book is 'The Roof Is On Fire'! The intensity is immense, and the characters are well-crafted.
A Vampire and a Valkyrie. A highly unusual match-up of epic proportions, and even they know this in the story. Still they are fated and we swoon. These two are smart, full of whip and erotic as can be. The battle between them is love and hate but obviously not in the traditional sense. It was still an exciting and sexy story!

I am having trouble deciding if I liked this book or not. I liked Myst, her attitude and that of the rest of her coven were snarkiness at it's best. Nikolai, I had more trouble warming up to. This is suppose to be the first book in the series, but it felt like coming in from behind. I felt like I was missing something. I'll try the next in the series, and see how that goes.

The Warlord Wants Forever is a good read from a great author. One of the best out there and an automatic buy for me. But I think the overall length of this story was the thing that stunted its potential. I will honestly admit that unlike Ms. Cole's books, I walked away from this one not really knowing either character. Oh there was heat galore, and a ton of action, but other than that these two didn't really stand out of me like the others in the IAD series. That doesn't mean I won't keep reading the series though. I'm still hooked and in it for the long haul

I like the Warlord and his Myst. He is overbearing, opinionated, scarred, loving, loyal and sexy. Myst is smart, strong, scarred, sexy and extremely not trusting. The perfect pair. Yeh, well good luck with that. LOL This couple has some stones to throw at each other and maybe even worse things. Things get HOT, dangerous, sad, heartwarming and then... everything goes to ________.
Nice an quick a sweet little story. Don't miss it if you're reading the series.

Nikolai Wroth is warrior vampire. Myst the Coveted is Valkyrie. She bloods vampires and then kills them. She has admired Wroth from his human days. For some reason, she bloods him (gives him a drop of her blood during a kiss), but does not kill him. The blooding leaves him aroused and unable to achieve release until he can find her, which is five years later.

Data:
Story length: 153 pages. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Copyright: 2006. Genre: paranormal romance.

This is Book 1 of a series. This story is also published in the anthology Playing Easy to Get. It was worth reading only because I loved Book 2, which is a separate book called "A Hunger Like No Other."

This book had it all. I adored both the heroine and hero. The storyline was original and fast paced. What a great start to this series. I look forward to checking out more. Well worth its current price of $1.99. At 185 pages it was just enough to get you hooked and wanting more and I was glad it didn’t end with a cliché cliffhanger like so many series have resorted to.

This novella makes for a great intro to the IAD series, which remains one of the best paranormal romance series published. Fluid writing makes for easy reading. The male is 100% Alpha male, and, therefore generally emotionally clueless. The heroine is daring, without inhibitions, and over-confident in her ability to manage the male--which leads to her delightful downfall. Cole rarely disappoints. Highly recommended.

I read this book as a part of a collection of combined stories. When I read the teaser chapter at the end of another of Kole's books, it set me on a hunt to get this one. I loved how Wroth and Myst from the get-go have a chemistry and at some point, a primal pull toward another. Then the case to find Myst is entertaining and fun. I enjoyed the book as I do most of all in this series, but I would definetly put it in the Top 3 for me in this series.

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the sequel. I actually found the plot of Wroth being left in an erected state for five years actually really funny. SERIOUSLY, I DID!!! Anyway, I liked Myst and her sisters and definitely want to read more about them, which I understand is what the sequel is about.

There's not really any romance in this novel. It's basically a short porn novel, and as others have pointed out...many of those sex scenes are almost rape scenes. The character development is almost non-existent, and both of her main characters are non-relatable since they are childish and barbaric. I was looking to start a new PNR series, but this book has me apprehensive about reading anymore by this author due to the poor content.
I can only hope it got so many good ratings because readers are enamored with her other books and this was not the first one they read.

I had originally got A Hunger Like No Other and realized there was a novella before it. This was he novella.

I liked it. It gave a great in site to the Lore. There's a lot of supernatural element so getting acquainted with all of the if fervent elements was easy in this book.

Both the characters compliment each other perfectly.

You get a glimps of Emmaline. Which is the heroine of the next book.

The book was good but it was a bit short and that's fine, but the characters' relationship went from hatred to madly in love in the span of a chapter or two, rather abrupt. I also was not a fan of the female lead, but the story was still pretty good and I liked most of it. The product itself was wonderful though, my rating is based more off the content. Overall it's a good story and definitely want it in your collection if you choose to read this book series.

I've heard so many great things about the Immortals After Dark series. It has been on my "to buy and read" radar since last year. But who has time to start a new series? Not I! So when Jen of That's What I'm Talking About came up with the IAD Reading Challenge and immediately jumped on board!

I loved reading a The Warlord Wants Forever even though it took me a long time to warm up to Myst. There were several times where I was like, get over yourself already. But that's the way of the Valkyrie as you will soon find out, so you can't expect anything different from them. Other than my difficulty warming up to Myst, I enjoyed reading this novella and thought that it was great. It packs a lot of heat and you don't feel slighted where the plot is concerned because this is a short story.

You can read the IAD series without reading the novella (that's what I did - not on purpose) but I think The Warlord Wants Forever does provide a lot of background information that's beneficial when reading the next book in the series, A Hunger Like No Other.

this series surpassed all my expectaions, I was initially drawn to it because of its vampire element ( I have a not-so-secrect addiction to vampires) but these stories are so much more! ***So I have to note, I did not listen to this as an audio book. I actually read the novella, so I have no opinion on the audio aspect of the story. I tend to steer away from audio just for this reason. I have a thing about voices, so if the voices are awful then I dont want to hear it. However, I am leaving my review here since the Kindle version is not out yet so it wont let me leave feedback there. And to be honest I didnt read any of the other stories in the anthology "Playing Easy to Get" so I didnt want to leave my feedback there. ***

From the beginning the battle between Myst and Nikolai is exciting. Myst is a not so mythical Valkyrie warrior also rumored to the most beautiful of her species. Nikolai is a former Estonian war lord turned Vampire. Nikolai is not seeking his "Bride" when he takes Myst captive. From the beginning he is intrigued by the beautiful valkyrie not knowing what she truly is, Myst plays with Nikolai seeking an end to her captivity. As it turns out Myst is Nikolai's "Bride" and she bloods him. Myst soon escapes from Nikolai leaving him in great agony. As mortal enemies Myst refuses to be a vampires "Bride" but 5 years later she is still thinking of her handsome warlord vampire.

After 5 years of searching for Myst, Nikolai finds her and again takes her captive. This is where the excitement really begins, Myst and Nikolai engage in a fierce battle of wills. Nikolai determined to extract his revenge as well as win his "Bride" and Myst just as determined to avoid being her enemies "Bride". He might not have a choice in the matter but she sure does!

Get ready for a roller coaster ride of clashing wills and sensuality as Kresely Cole lures you in to the Lore of mythical creatures that are not so mythical. As these two characters battle it out you find yourself engrossed to see who wins, you will be introduce to new and even more engaging battles of wit, lust and passion in the Immortals after Dark Series.

These audiobooks are very well read! I strongly recommend the whole series! If you haven't heard a audiobook and are looking to try. LOOK NO FURTHER! The excitement, romance, and fantasy in these books are amazing. Kresley is my favorite author. and Robert is my favorite reader! Love the Scottish and Russian accents.

I tried, but clearly starting this series here is a bad idea. It took a while to figure out the events were present day, and there was far too much of a rape-vibe going on. I love PNR, and anything a bit different, gritty, with some humour, and I'm right there, but this was a mess. I've heard the series is good, and I might have continued had I started with the first novel, but this novella has put me off for good.

I don't usually bother with novellas but after reading the first novel of this series, I was compelled to read Myst and Wroth's story as well. Enjoyable short read and although the climax was a cliche, I still loved it.

Can't wait to read more of this series!

I love it when I find a great series that already has several books to continue on with. Sometimes it's torture waiting for the next installment to come out. Kresley Cole already has several books out in this series that I can download in seconds. I think I'll have to force myself to get the next book tomorrow because if I download it now I will be up all night reading it! Loved this book!!

Very new series to me but became intrigued by Gena Showalter's The Darkest Facts. I was pleasantly surprised with the story despite the seemingly lack of backstory.

I do hold out hope that the series will be good as past Cole titles have Provence worth the purchase.

I went back to read this novella after I have read many other books in the series. It was a waste of time as I didn't learn anything new. I didn't like Myst's character and Nikolai was boring. I am finding myself very turned off by all the Valkyries. I find them annoying and very childish. I feel sorry for any of the males that are mated to them. I'm not sure what makes them so immature but I have yet to find any of them appealing. I was unable to see the point to this book and would suggest you skip it. There's not much to learn about Myst. I know it's Kresley's characterization but why do the Valkyries talks and behave like 10 year old boys?

This book was released a long time ago in an anthology called "Playing Easy to Get". I personally loved the story though I did read it after I had read a couple books of the IAD series. I wished it would have been longer too but it still made my blood pump. ;-)

I just tried listening to the Audio version of this book and couldn't get past ten minutes of it. I have not listened to an Audio book in over ten years. Thanks to this one I will never listen to another again. The narration was horrible. I laughed out loud so many times my family thought I was losing it. As for the story I read it years ago and wanted to reread the whole series again before I read Lothaire. This story isn't the best in the series, nor should it be, but if you are like me and want to have read all of the stories in the series then it is worth reading.

Man, I truly wanted to like this. It just didn't happen for me. I am always eager for a new paranormal series and seeing this one with lots of books and the positive reviews left me thinking "yay" sadly, something about the two leads just didn't do it for me. Wish I could put my finger in why exactly but it seems it's just a general dislike.

So disappointed - the description of this series held such promise but the writing is embarrassingly awful! Whoever published her should be shot! There's no suspense, no mystery, nothing to make you desperate to know what happens next because it's cliche/predictable. So glad I only wasted $2 on this.

"The Warlord Wants Forever" AUDIO book is very lame. Don't waste your
money! The male "performer", Hagan Verret is uninspired and flat. The
female "performer", Simone Fomhar is unbelievably bad. The performances,
direction and production are 3rd rate. For example, the director decided
to have the performers take turns reading sections from the book. So, you
have the female performer doing a horrifying accent for Nikolai, Murdoch,
Kristoff, et.al, that sounds like a Hungarian cross-dresser from LA, while
the male performer makes Myst, Regin, Lucia, et. al, sound like a
lame-brained drag queen. The characters in the book are creatures who have
lived long lives full of love, losses, regret, joy, friendship, violence, wonders and much more. These are complex character that deserved more than a 3rd rate audio reading. The same people are doing the audio book for Lothaire. If you must listen, get it from the library.

So all the other reviewers are harping on how bad the vocal talent is,(they are all correct, the male actor is atrocious) but no one has commented on how bad the story is. I'm sorry if this offends some people, but this is nothing but porn. It goes from one sex scene, to another, with a little dialog and a smattering of fight scenes. It got annoying after a while. And what's sad is that they weren't even sexy. It was about dominance and control, and some encounters even bordered rape. I really like Kresley Cole and have enjoyed most of her series, but she seems to be going down the Anita Blake pathway where her stories are basically just erotica with a thin veil of romance over it. A good sex scene can be great, but we don't need 8 of them in the first five chapters.
