This book is largely New Age mumbo jumbo such as guided imagery and eastern meditation. Don't waste your time with such nonsense. If you want to learn how to be a man forget the magical thinking and go to the source. The Measure of a Man by Gene Getz will get you started.

I recommend this book for anyone who is looking to take their self improvement to the next level. I really like Coach Divine's holistic approach to training. I have been through lots of training over the years but this is the first time I have been able to see all the pieces fit and their importance to each other. I am very much excited about the journey I have just begun. Thank you Coach for all your effort putting this together.

The Way of the SEAL (WOS) helps the participant become a respected, successful leader. I say participant because unlike comparable motivational books, Mark provides unique exercises that help develop and cultivate the skills taught in the book. This type of accountability provides the inspirational encouragement for success that's often required in which other sources lack. Though I have not read the book in its entirety, Mark provides relevant examples of how others achieved their own successes using the very principles, theories, and concepts in the book.
The book is about self-discovery and how one cannot lead like an elite warrior, unless the individual develops a strong meaningful foundation from deep within. Mark calls this "Kokoro," which literally means merging the heart and mind into action—or giving purpose to someone's life. The type of purpose that when thoroughly understood and faced with challenge, will compel great people to do precisely what they do because they said they would...much like SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy did when he placed himself in the line of fire to help his team. Mr. Murphy was mortally wounded. Now that's leadership with a purpose!
I wish I could label the book as a strict leadership book, but I can't. That is, we all face personal failure and often have difficulty coping with the results, however, this book can help you embrace and learn from such experiences. In many aspects, this book is the perfect blend of self-mastery and leadership development.
This book is for everyone. Grab a copy.

A very good personal development book with examples from Mark Divine's business and military life to keep you engaged. The best part of the book are the drills in the chapters and the exercises at the end. As with any personal development program you get out of what you put in. This book gives you clearly defined action steps to do and refer back to. You'll get more out of this book if you play full out.

Very easy to read and comprehend. Mark does a great job of introducing the concept, reinforcing it with a story or life experience, then giving you homework on how to apply the skill or concept to your own life.
I like this much better than other self-help books: it's very down to earth and loaded with reinforcing stories and practical exercises.

I've been following Mark Divine's SEALFIT website for several years. What I like most about his new book - The Way of the SEAL - is how he lays out, in detail, the mental skills it takes to perform at a high level - creating a very potent formula for continuous self-development. I highly recommend it!

Mark Divine has such a fantastic handle of the way leadership should be practiced. I have been a member of Unbeatable Mind for the past year, and let me tell you, this book is the icing on the cake! He breaks down each of his points very succinctly, while drawing examples from this past as a Navy SEAL Commander. This a very well written and informative book.

I read coach Divine's first book while in the pipeline for SOF. It was a great motivator for me during the hard training. I ended up falling behind due to medical problems and lost the focus to go back into training. Now I am on my 7th or so rotation and always looking for new ways to challenge myself. I ordered this book for the kindle since I have no hard address for mailing and was finally able to download it 2 days ago. I still have yet to finish the book but so far it's one of the best motivational tools I have come across. l can relate it to more than just my leadership in the military but across my every day life with my family and friends. Thank you coach Divine for a great read and I'm looking forward to the end of the book and to see what other tools you bring to the table later on. Ni neart go cur le cheile.

The Way of the SEAL is a GAME CHANGER. Whether you're going to try out to become a Navy SEAL, wanting to better your station in life, or make a quantum leap in your business. The Way of the SEAL is required reading. Divine nails it and hits it out of the park. This book is a page turner and has me very fired up. What separates this book from all the rest is how Devine shows you how to deal with the emotional side of life. This will be a major breakthrough for most people. This type of training is very very hard to find. How many times have you asked yourself, "What dog are you feeding?" Having the ability to know and how to catch yourself right before your emotions torpedo you could make all the difference in the world in sporting events, business, and relationships.
Most men are NOT taught the skills to navigate their emotions. When men start breaking emotionally they are toast. Devine shows you the step by step process on how to tame & control your emotions and keep you in the fight whether you are playing a sport, combat, or just dealing with life. The book teaches you how NOT to quit. You know what I'm talking about. You are in the middle of a run or some other difficult task in life, you are getting tired, you are telling yourself not to quit, and then your mind gives the negative emotional command, then you break, and you are done. Then the pain of regret sets in. Do you want to know how to conquer yourself. The Way of the SEAL will teach you. Divine could have easily changed the title of his book to, How to be a Man.
What separates this book from most self-help books is Devine has been there and done it multiple times as a Special Forces Operator and as a business man. Most self-help books are written by people who have done nothing but write and sell books. You know what I'm talking about. You're reading one of these Epic Books of Complete Nonsense and you are no better off before you started reading that book.
I also recommend joining up for Mark Devine's Unbeatable Mind Academy.
Commander Devine, Well Done and Thank You for the read ! I will be seeing you at one of your camps.

I have been a fan of Sealfit for quite some time. I now know that I don't want to be a fan but a "doer". I recommend this book for anyone wanting to understand the "way of the seal" and how you train your mind at the same time. The difference between WOS and other books about training to be a warrior is his emphasis on whats happening in your head while to choosing to to take this path. Read this book over and over again until its part of your being!

This book deserves a five star rating, because it captures the essence of what it means to think like a SEAL. If a person follows Mark's advise they will achieve far more in life. If you are someone that is struggling in any area - physical, financial, emotional or even spiritual this book will give you the tools to weather the storm and bounce back. This is why it should be a five star book.
Consider the background of this man. Former Navy SEAL (Honor Man of his BUDs calss), 25 years in Martial Arts and an MBA in Accounting. Look out world! His online "Unbeatable Mind" has climbed from a few hundred to over a thousand people (by my count - it could be more) from around the world.
What sets this book apart from others is that after reading it you have a tool bag strategies, practices, and mental models that will help you for the rest of your life. Read it!
This book is for old and young alike. It will help the young in molding their vision and help the old reinvent themselves.

I view this book as more of a workbook instead of a quick help motivational book. Coach Divine makes you look deep into yourself to help discover your purpose. This is the first book that I haven't wanted to read cover to cover in a day because I am being challenged by each chapter to truly become a better person. Love the book

The author is inspiring but this is really a rah, rah book. I would have liked it more directed towards action items and was hoping he would share more insights into his time with the seals. Still, a decent read.

The book would be great for a person who is into sports as a competitor or a person who enjoys eastern sage type training. I thought it gave me insight into Mark Divine personality and his thought process as a seal. I am grateful for his service and all special operations people who risk it all in the service of our country, but it would work better for me if it had more stories of how the training resulted in a mission success for a seal.

Everyday, we are inundated with more and more information to process, sort, sift and take action on. This information overload is only getting worst and it can make obtaining our goals harder and harder. That’s why Commander Mark Divine’s new book, The Way of the SEAL, is such a needed resource. It provides a wonderful framework to have laser focus during the chaos of life.
Commander Divine is an ex-Navy SEAL who took his SEAL experiences and applied them to everyday life. In The Way of the SEAL, Commander Divine lays out the essential principles that he and his teams followed to accomplish their missions. It may seem a bit extreme to adopt the SEAL’s unconventional warfare techniques to daily life but each one of the eight principles is simple in message yet unconventional in tactics.
I’m especially fond of principle 2, Develop Front Site Focus. At first, it may seem completely foreign to a non-military person (which I am) to focus on the front sight of your rifle but the analogy is a powerful one. By focusing on the high-value targets (or opportunities) in front of you, you can quickly dispatch (complete) them and move on to the next one. This concept is what leads to being cool, calm and collected under battlefield (or boardroom) pressures. With Front Site Focus, you are always focused on what’s important.
Another important concept that is lost in our modern world is that there is “no such thing as perfection, only perfect effort.” This is a simple yet profound statement that has been lost in our instant gratification, look at me world where it’s expected to look perfect, act perfect, have the perfect job, the perfect wife/husband, raise perfect kids, be in the perfect career and have perfect friends. It refreshing to get permission, from arguably the almost perfect warriors, that even they can always be better. This has a direct application to all of us (me included) who are too afraid to start something because of the fear of not being perfect. It’s vital to not let the idea of perfection get in the way of achieving the mission (goals) that are in front of you.
The book’s style reflects the teacher, mentor and coach that Commander Divine has become. The stories are enlightening, relevant and almost autobiographical in the way he pulls on both successes and failures to demonstrate how the concepts work. As an entrepreneur myself, I found his stories about the struggles and challenges he faced starting his own businesses inspiring and insightful.
The Way of The SEAL is a book whose time is way over due. If you are looking to Bulletproof Your next Mission (idea, company or goal), then The Way of The SEAL is your best bet to set effective goals, visualize success, fight the fight and not the plan and be totally committed to achieving your goals.

Develop front sight focus. "A SEAL knows he must simply engage one target at a time and not shift focus until he has dispatched that target."
In the business world we have to deal with "multi-tasking" which means we try to focus on multiple things at once. But that does not really work because usually I end up constantly shifting my focus between multiple projects and I never seem to give anything 100% focus because I constantly have those other projects in the back of my mind. I received this book a few weeks ago and decided to try this out. As a competitive shooter I instantly grasped the Authors term of "front sight focus." It made total sense to focus on one target completely before moving to the next target or project. By working a single target (project/task) at a time I find I am not only completing them faster but I also think I am doing a better job at each task.
The book is laid out in chapters with sub chapters focused on the topic at hand. I find that helpful because I can pick it up, hit a chapter, and start reading about a specific topic that I may want to improve upon. Nice and focused, not a lot of fluff or filler. I enjoy a book that is very to-the-point.
The book talks in detail about leadership and developing your own leadership abilities. The Author seems to believe that leadership is not a skill or collection of behaviors, but rather a character. He helps you delve into establishing your "set point", and also gets you to ask yourself what you are passionate about and more importantly, why?
I have read many business books, self improvement books, and other books that try to get you to succeed. I really like this book because it hits many of those topics from a SEAL's perspective. Its a more real-life perspective. There are times when life is going to suck, so embrace the suck! People you deal with are going to do crappy things to you at work and home, so control your response by forging mental toughness. Stop going after the low hanging fruit and start targeting high value targets. Sounds simple enough, you know it makes sense, and yet we still don't do it. Why?
The Author gives many exercises in this book. Many of them start with some meditation to narrow your focus on what you are trying to accomplish. Simple meditation is great for insight as I have had more than a few insights during mediation that were obvious and yet I wasn't seeing them before.
As a person that is always trying to improve, I really like this book. There are things in this book that will be helpful to anyone, not just leaders, wanna-be leaders, or Navy SEALs. If you have areas in your life where you feel you need improvement, get this book, do the exercises, and start applying what you learned. If you feel there are no areas of your life that need improvement, well then you really need this book because you are clearly delusional.

The sections about mental toughness were exceptional. I'm happy to have read the book for those sections alone, but I got tired of reading the story of Mark Divine. There is a burgeoning genre of management/leadership/self-help books where somebody tells their story and encourages you to follow their path for a similar level of success. I'm all for seeing how an idea can be applied in the real world, but the constant refrain that the tools being presented are the answer to all of your problems erodes my alignment with the book's content.
In fairness to Divine, I just have a very different set of challenges that I face in my life and career and have a very different way to going about addressing those challenges. My needs and experience do not align well with Divine's approach. I have not found detailed plans to be very effective tools. This is not to say that they are not effective. They are just not effective for me. Divine's plan just isn't the right one for me. I'm not saying that my approach is right and his is wrong. They're just different.

The subject of non-conventional warriors has been of special interest to me since I began to learn about elite groups such as U.S. Army Rangers and Great Britain's Special Air Service (SAS). This is an updated and expanded edition of The Way of the Seal, written by Mark Divine with Allyson Edelhertz Machate and first published in 2013. It seems to be the bestselling book among 672 that are by and/or about the U.S. Navy SEALs.
Divine focuses on eight core principles of leadership -- that guide and inform personal growth and professional development -- and devotes a separate chapter to each. He also offers an Afterword ("Lead with Your Heart") and three appendices: "Focus Pans," "Power Rituals," and "The Way of the SEAL Reading List." The emphasis is on mental and emotional as well as physical training, as during the formal training of all SEAL candidates, but is essentially self-directed. Each year, there are about 40,000 recruits and only about 5% (2,000) complete the training.
From the beginning, Divine establishes a direct rapport with his reader in the Contents section ("Principle 1: Establish Your Set Point") and then in his prefatory "Note" ("I'm betting you're tired of the same old self-improvement and leadership information rehashed and repackaged again and again"), adding "Let's work together to cultivate the Way of the SEAL in your life, starting now. Hooyah!" That Way is based on the aforementioned eight principles.
Divine shares with his reader the details of a journey that began when he 25. Although a CPA and had earned an MBA degree, he quit everything to fulfill his dream of becoming a SEAL. That was when he established his set point. His reader must do so, also, or there is no point in proceeding further. Divine agrees with Simon Sinek that everything must "begin with why." At the conclusion of each chapter, Divine offers a set of "Key Takeaways" and EXERCISES to apply them.
Head's Up: I urge each reader to highlight key passages (I use an optic yellow Sharpie) and keep a lined notebook near at hand (I use a Mead "Marble") in which to record comments and questions as well as to complete exercises. Regularly review key passages and notebook contents and, whenever appropriate, supplement them.
Embracing and then strengthening "the Way of the SEAL" is not for dilettantes or dullards. Mark Divine does all he can to help set you up for great success but only you can achieve it. If you think the investment of time and energy required to learn what he offers is too much, try ignorance.

Just a rehash of the same old New Agey garbage. Get a goal, center yourself by deep breathing... yada yada yada. Find your passion, understand yourself. There is nothing new here... at all! This is only a promotion of the business the writer has online and in some "seal-ish" type camps for people who want to make believe. I regret having bought it based on Reader's Digest's recommendation. Worthless.

It is mostly motivational and promotional for his business.
He gets visualization completely wrong - which isn't his fault because just about everyone does because of self help books and all the quackery out there.
The right way:
In sports, when you visualize, you visualize in the first person doing an action perfectly. For example, if you are a baseball player, you imagine holding the bat, watching the ball come to you and swinging and hitting the ball with perfect form - the more detail the better.
The non-sense:
Sitting back and visualizing being a success, getting rich, or whatever is just daydreaming. And I have seen at least one study that has shown that doing that can actually reduce motivation because it makes you feel good.

This has become one of my favorite, if not the best, book I've ever picked up. Mark Divine, a 20 year Navy Seal and commander, details in this book the mentality one can adopt from his military training to succeed in everyday life, regardless of our profession or daily journey. I especially like how this book is composed in a bullet-point, straight-forward manner with advice such as gaining mental toughness, being assertive all the time, embracing risk and developing self discipline. An inspiring and practical book for anyone seeking greater personal empowerment.

This book delivers. I think one of the key strengths of W.O.S is that it focuses heavily on both training and relaxing your mind. I like how author Mark Divine breaks down key SEAL strategies and puts them into actionable steps, giving readers something tangible to follow.
Mark Divine has an impressive list of credentials as a SEAL, entrepreneur and athlete - he’s got the chops. The book reads from his perspective and experiences being a SEAL, attempting various business pursuits, attaining black belts in the dojo and finally, creating his current, successful training business.
One of the main concepts of Divine’s book is ‘Front Sight Focus’. If you’ve been multitasking your whole life, you’re doing it wrong. The idea of dropping multitasking has been prevalent for several years now and this book backs up the concept that it is better to solely focus on your most important task first, before moving on to the next job at hand.
The sections of this book are well laid out. Each one covers a specific topic; trait, skill and task. The content is delivered in a straight forward manner and is easy to understand. You’ll find it useful to memorize a few of the abbreviations to keep pace and internalize the training.
Overall I’d say this book is about character. But instead of being vague or preachy about what character is, Mark Divine describes what people of character are like and what they do. He breaks it down into actionable steps and what makes it all stick it the attention and detail paid to mental training.
This is an outstanding book as it has so much substance in the form of ‘how to’ steps and life skills that you can apply (if you like the techniques mentioned, which I do.)
Buy this book if: you want to raise the bar in your business and personal life. If you want a no-nonsense read, actionable steps and mind centering exercises. There are at least a few steps almost anyone can take a way from this book to improve their life-game.
Don't’ buy this book if: you want a war story about Navy Seals or if you are not keen to apply training techniques offered (simply put, you won’t get as much out of the book if you don't apply the concepts).

This is an excellent book - It is not simply a chest-thumping military book that throws around the "SEAL" brand to sell more. It is truly a way of life. It includes tools, techniques, values and principles - not all new or unique - but compiled into a simple to read and execute playbook. I love this book. I read it over and over. I share the concepts with my wife, children, friends and colleagues. I've been following Mark Devine for about 5 years now through his SEALFit programs and podcast. He is a genuine human being who wants to create a better world. Get the book and change your life. - Jeff Smith

I'm a 25 year old Peruvian-American young lady and I'm probably not the intended demographic of this book, but I don't let outer appearances define my reality. When I'm looking for a new book to read, I walk into a Barnes and Noble, look at all the business, self-development and psychology books, until one calls me. I picked up this book, because it spoke to my inner warrior. Mark Divine has over 20 years experience in the Navy SEALs and he's distilled the major principles into this short book. The purpose is to achieve self-mastery of yourself, because you are the only one that can change your life. You are master of your own fate. I didn't even think of the possibility of putting myself up to some great phyiscal challenges, I just wanted to learn cool mind tactics, but I got so much more out of it. You will too!

Having been in the U.S. Navy, I can relate to Mark Devine's Way of the SEAL (WOS) philosophy. He gives readers a viable system for improving one's physical, emotional and mental strength, utilizing the terminology used in the Navy. I recommend listening to the audiobook while on long solitary jogs and following his system of self-improvement through self-reflection. With dedication, one will definitely see positive gains. The best parts of his WOS system are the sections on meditation and creative visualization, two essential components to accomplishing one's goals. The fact that Devine covers these areas extensively and returns to them again, reassures me that he knows what he's talking about. This book doesn't seem like a trendy self-help book, but a practical philosophy associated with a system that actually works. If you're skeptical, just look at the successes of the US Navy SEALS. Get the book and the audiobook. Study it and watch yourself improve. You won't regret it.

In full honesty pros and cons:
Pros: Gives a few vague pointers staring in chapter 3 (if you get thru chapter 1,2 self bragging):
1, to find a stand/purpose, get to know yourself, visualize your sucess, do what you stend for....and thats about it.....
Cons.
Chapter 1 and 2: I was the seal (yes only 4 years (even though he counts 6 but from 2000 to 2004 when he quit I got 4) I did this and I was CEO and I was the best student, and the best matial artist and studied nder the best martial artist instructor in NY between teaching accountants and lawyers and his fellow seals on lunch breaks.....you get the point lol No weakness, just knew everything better than others ;).
After a few pointers which are quite simple just streched out into many chapters the rest is trying to upsell his other products.
In summary: Marketing meets self love and self indulgence.
I should have bought something else :(.

I received a free copy of this book from the 12 Books Group in exchange for this review.
The way of the SEAL. The Navy SEALs have been an elite force for the Navy for some time now. Their most famous mission was SEAL Team 6 killing Osama Bin Laden in 2011. Author Mark Divine is a retired Navy SEAL, who runs SEALFIT, NavySEALS.com, and started US Crossfit. In this book, he summarizes what he's learned as a SEAL, and how it can be adapted to everyday life.
He establishes 8 principles: Establish Your Set Point, Develop Front-Sight Focus, Bulletproof Your Mission, Do Today What Others Won't, Forge Mental Toughness, Break Things, Build Your Intuition, Think Offense All the Time. He emphasizes 5 areas: Physical, Mental, Emotional, Intuition, and Spirit. (Physical is a book by itself.) He includes exercises to help reinforce these principles. I haven't done the exercises yet. I wanted to read the book through once to see what it is.
Many of the principles in this book have been written about elsewhere. Go into B&N and look at the self-help or management sections, and you'll see all kinds of books on these topics. I recognized some of this book from a section of Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography. The question on this is how to make the material effective for your life. It helps that he walked the walk, as they say. This isn't just platitudes from someone who pretends to know what to do. I believe these can be effective, if done properly. The challenge with books like this isn't knowing what to do, it's actually doing it. Some books like this are thinly veiled commercials to sell other programs. To his credit, the author doesn't promote these too hard. Doing the exercises in the book will help. The author recommends getting help from local coaches or programs that could help.
The one issue I do have with the book is the same I have with a lot of other books like this. It doesn't recognize limitations, and there are some. For example, I'm 50 years old, have foot problems, and had heart bypass surgery 3 years ago. I will not play in the NFL, regardless of hotw well I improve myself. I also there are other things I will not be able to do. It would be better if it recognized this. All in all, though, a good book.

Just got the book and reading it now. So far it seems like a legit book. Practical exercises to put into action the advice on the pages. I've read a lot of self help books. Some of the ideas are similar and some are unique. He mentions in the book that if he had a silver bullet to just automatically make you into a better person over night then he would do it but of course nobody can do that. So therefore with the advice in this book you can transform yourself into a better person over some time if practiced. The thing I like so far in this book is the approach to different topics that he talks about, specifically the exercises. You can read all the books you want to out there but transformation happens beyond the pages in a book. Nothing happens until something moves as we say in the Army. Bottom line is that if you have lost your focus or way in life and need some help getting back on track or even just getting on track to begin with, then this is a good place to start.

This book has a few useful tips but overall fell massively short of my expectations. I didn't read the store reviews prior to purchasing, but now that I'm seeing them, I am stunned to see so many 5 star reviews. In the opening pages, the author suggests this book won't be like the other cliche-filled self help books. But that's exactly what he has written—only worse.
This book was branded and packaged as one that will teach you "The Way of the SEAL." Instead, we learn very little of what actually takes place in the life of a SEAL, and learn more about the private businesses of a narcissistic man who uses this book as a vehicle to promote his SEAL fit training program.

I was told once that if I want to change my life, such us, loose wight, have more money, and be successful. I needed to change my way of thinking. I bought a couple of books on that topic. but this one is the best.
loved this book. I am not a navy seal, or business man. i honestly think i am more like a looser who has let multiple opportunities go because I have always had low self esteem, low energy, and no purpose. I wouldn't had admitted to that or i would had blame some one or something like always. but this book thought me to take charge of my life and actions. I am reading it for the second time and I am going to star practicing what it teaches.

I read "The Way of the SEAL" as part of the 12 Books Business group. I anticipated that the book would be excellent because of the training of a Navy Seal and was not disappointed. This book tapped into your inner strengths and provided exercises that are thought provoking and a guide for making changes in your life. From SMART(Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely ) goals and exercises to the layout focusing on eight principles of (1) establishing your set point; (2) develop front-sight focus; (3) bulletproof your mission; (4) today what other won't; (5) forge mental toughness; (6) break things; (7) build your intuition and (8) think offense all the time, you will learn that your commitment to self-mastery and growth are essential to yourself and the success of your team.
The Way of the Seal is full of actionable information, strategies and practices that are essential for leadership and developing leadership abilities.

While it is best to read the book from start (how to build a platform of values) to end("Lead with Your Heart"), feel free to dip in at any point. There is a lot of wisdom coupled with practical advice. A key theme:keep a positive mental frame;do not get angry, get determined;do not be afraid of change, embrace curiousity;replace uncertainity with the acceptance of learning something new. Great section on the 8 Rules to break now.(No.4 "Fight Fair" and No.5 "Always Tell the Truth" are my favorites.) Lots of other good stuff.

I read this book for the 12 Books Business Book group, from which I received a free copy of the book. This business book is based on the lessons learned during training and a career leading a U.S. Navy SEAL group, complete with tips and procedures and a training map for civilian use. It very definitely falls in the category of self help and self improvement, if you don't fancy business studies. The author constantly refers back to his life as a SEAL and as a business owner, both successes and failures, to illustrate his points.

Ok I am not going to write a review longer then the book.
I think a lot of people are being very generous in their ratings here. I was expecting more specific Seal tactics or mental prep insight. A lot of info is very vague and not specific as to what their exact training is to overcome mental obstacles. I got the breathing deal early on there really was no need to repeat it continuously. I mean breathing slowly is not exactly groundbreaking information.
I would actually rate it lower due to the constant promotion of his web site. When you mention your Co information more then 10x's you have to be thinking let me use this for all I can. This comes at the expense of your readers.
I wanted to get into the deep mind of a Seal and what they do to prepare. This is not that book.

This book is full of very practical applications of leadership that incorporate physical, spiritual, emotional, and physical dimensions. For me, I really enjoyed learning about personal and organizational leadership using Navy Seals lingo and examples but I could see how for some that might be challenging.
All said and done I'm super impressed with Mark Divine. I think what he has managed to accomplish so far in his lifetime is outright amazing. I can't wait to read his other books.

The Way of the SEAL: Think Like an Elite Warrior to Lead and Succeed by Mark Divine is a great book for mind, body, and soul. I enjoyed this book because it gives you simple ways to take your goals and put them into concrete actions. One of the tenets of the book is "Front Sight Focus". This is the ability to focus on one goal till it is achieved. According to the book the ability to focus your mind is also very important. The book also talks alot of leadership. The book says we all need to develop our own leadership abilities. The steps laided out in this book are not easy but they are worth the journey if you follow them. I definitely enjoyed reading this book and I think you will get alot out of reading it as well.

Possibly the best book I have read on structuring various aspects of my life, be it health, education or work. I've already read it thrice and keep it by my side for quick references, at least once a week. The book is already dog-eared, underlined and well used up. I just love it.
The message is crystal clear and every theory he puts forth is backed by a series of exercises that you can use to get yourself on the Way of the Seal. Highly recommended!

Why isn't this a NY Times Bestseller?
This is my first book review EVER. That goes to show the positive impact this book has made on me. I cannot stressed enough the 8 principles that he teaches in the book. He includes personal accounts, along with actionable advice for any individual looking to improve their current situation. Honestly, I wish I had found this book sooner but I am so glad to have read it.
Being in my early twenties and still in college, I plan to implement Mark's teaching to further improve myself.as a young adult.
The focus plan at the end of the book is a great resource to follow and I wish there was a place to download it PDF style. I am improving and writing it on my own but it would be a good resource to have accessible because I'm sure I'm not the only one looking to create multiple copies.

The book was a good read. However that was it--a good read. Mr. Devine uses this SEAL credentials to package the standard self-help litany as a primer in combat leadership for the office.
It is easy for those of us in management or leadership to neglect ourselves, lose focus on priorities, or to maintain our spirituality. Clearing one's mind, focus, and dedication are important to human beings let alone leaders, but happy thoughts and mediation does not make one a Fortune 500 CEO.
Save your money and more importantly your time, by reading my summary of his book: 1) leaders must embrace risk and failure 2) tackle one goal at a time 3) plan in detail and depth 4) you are capable of more than you think 5) worker smarter and harder--do that what others aren't willing to do. 6) Military acronyms and slang are critical to business 7) Mediate in a "mental gym" with Yoda or Obi-wan 8) Pay thousands of dollars to join my Strongmind, Crossift, Sealfit, or Jiujitsu academy. 9) Don't get into fistfights with trailer trash in a bar in Lake Placid--if you do, don't do the right thing like simply call the police.
This is Devine's grand business strategy. Just read the book's table of contents if you don't believe me.

My former wrestling coach the late Howard Ferguson (one of the most winning HS coaches in history) wrote a book called the Edge. I was imbued with the lessons from the Edge (he interviewed hundreds of the greatest athletes, coaches, businessmen, etc) and distilled what it takes to win on the mat and life. Mark Divine's excellent Way of the SEAL built on that foundation and resurrected many things I forgotten. I was impressed with the chapters relating to Leadership, visualization, mental toughness and introduced to several new concepts. This is an OUTSTANDING book and I highly recommend it.

I cannot describe how much this book has made me rethink how I am in every part of my life.
It has made me want to be a better person and would love to one day shake Mark's hand!
I live in the UK and we do not have many books written like this that I have been able to find so to be able to have a hard copy of this and read it is amazing!!!
I am a diabetic and faced a lot of discrimination, adversity and hard times. I have never quit and always want to prove people wrong when they say I cannot do something because I am a diabetic. Since reading books like Way of the Seal, Self-confidence by David Rutherford, the red circle by Brandon Webb and many others I have found that I was always right for challenging such negativity and being determined which led me to work in Law enforcement.

One of my clients is a nutritional company whose target audience is military and special ops personnel. In my research, I learned a lot about the training involved to become the "best of the best."
While there is no question that special ops units like the Navy Seals are in great physical shape...it's their mental toughness, integrity, resiliency, and focus which contribute to the "X" factor of their success.
Now imagine bringing those tools into your business and personal life! Imagine facing your life every day FEARLESS and with complete competence and confidence of getting from Point A to Mission Accomplished....The Way of the Seal will guide you there

Although, this book does read like an info-commercial it is packed with a lot of great information I found very helpful.
I personally bought an iBook version of this. I wish I had bought a hard copy instead. I thought this would be a quick read, turned out to be packed with great information. (When I read a book that is really helpful, I don't just highlight and underline, I actually take brief notes on the inside cover so I can quickly refer to a particular point. I can't do this with a digital version as all there is no simple way to distinguish the highlights.)
This book has plenty of substance. I found it very interesting and helpful to see how Navy Seals develop mental toughness to overcome.

The heart of Divine's book is an extrapolation from the psychological toolbox that a Navy SEAL draws from to navigate high-stress military situations with optimal performance. Combined with similar techniques and strategies from the author's expertise in Karate and Yoga, the intent of the book is to show readers a pathway toward a focused overhaul of attitude, values and operational skill sets to make things happen. Although my take is that the book is mostly aimed at those in the business world (and undoubtably those interested in career with an elite military unit in the Armed Forces) I think this will be an incredibly useful book for endurance athletes.

Devine does and outstanding job combing his experiences as a CPA, MBA, SEAL and student into a step by step tranformational workbook. He delivers the best of what he learned from his military training, martial arts training, business experience, yoga, crossfit, Tony Robbins and many others into a solid action guide.
If you're looking for a quick fix then this book isn't for you. In fact Devine suggests reading through the entire book once and then going back through and spending a month on each section.
If you're willing to put in the commitment, time and energy to go through the exercises then dive in and get ready to be led by a warrior and American hero.

Most of these leadership books don't really give you a concrete road map to achieve your goals. This one is very different. It has very useful advice but also provides mental and even some physical exercises (like breathing techniques) that provide immediate benefits and help lead the way. As the owner of a small business, this book is certainly going to help me grow as a business and as a person.

This is the book you've been looking for. Mark Divine helps you see a clear path forward to your personal success, and then guides you through the steps that will get you there. A great book and one that I'll read over and over. Gary Dannar

I was looking forward to reading this book. I held the crisp, new book in my hand and opened it at random. I came across the following "The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future merely by changing his attitude." - Oprah Winfrey. Anyone who has read even one self-help book knows that the real source of the quotation is the great American philosopher William James, who stated "The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes." Attributing James' brilliant insight to a ditzy new age celebrity without even bothering to check the source is sloppy and irresponsible. I won't be reading further in this book, in fact, I will be returning it.
