This book brought all the books together. Sherrilyn outdid herself in bringing together all the characters and plots. I cried, I laughed and lived the story. I look forward to another book, another detailed plot.

I was a decent book not as great as born of legend but that has more to do with the characters than anything else. That being said it was still a good read. It was certainly better then Dragon mark but still didn't hold the spark of some of her other books.

I have yet to meet a Kenyon book I didn't like and this was no exception. Truly great to see how Bas resolved his conflict and loved the bonus story at the end. These books make you appreciate what you have in life and never take anything for granted. Can't wait for Thia's story. Whether it be in big or short form.

I have yet to read a book from Sherrilyn Kenyon I didn't love. Very visual with her words. Suspense at every turn. You can relate to her characters and feel what they feel. She never disappoints me. Loved it!

This is on of my all time favorite series, and every time a new book comes out I reread all of them, thats how good they are!!! I find very few books are worth rereading, these books are in a league of their own!

This book was about 60% repetitive from other books. The exact dialogue was copy and pasted in. Didn’t feel like the end was satisfying I really really love her books but this didn’t match up like her other books.

It was ok. I expected more. I felt like the author was basically repeating what happened in the previous books of the series. The fighting scenes weren't that great and the resolution was very short and anticlimactic.

I love these books. If you forget they are set in space, full of different life forms, all breathing air and flying about the place - they really are great stories. I do get a bit confused with the different species, federations, nations and all the family ties etc. But it easy enough to separate the good guys from the bad. This story is no exception. It does tie together a lot of the previous tales and the hero binds then together. We have met this character before in a previous story and this episode takes place before during and after that. Not the best of the series but still a great addition. I would always encourage people to read the stories in order. While this book does stand alone it would give away some of the secrets of the others.

I still love her books mostly because I still love all the characters. But the stories are starting to become so repetitive that I spend the whole time thinking didn't I read this already? It would be a nice change if she would introduce new storylines and new people to shake things up a bit. I do still love you, though, Sherrilyn! And I'll still grab your books the minute they hit the shelves!

Although I very much enjoyed this one, the story felt a bit disjointed at times. This book focused more on action rather than romance. As usual, it's great to see all the familiar faces. The ending felt a bit rushed, but I loved the bonus story at the end.

As others have stated, a good portion of the book was rehashing Bastien's parts from the other stories. I can get that to a point, but most of the original content seemed rushed or heavily edited out. A whole chapter at the end appeared to be missing, that is how rushed it feels.

I feel like the last couple of books are filled with too many references and inclusions of previous books so it feels as if you've already read this story before. Not so much with this one but the previous one had it so much more. Also, the ending comes so quick and is pretty anti-climatic.
The characters are well developed and interesting and partly help you forget that you've already read much of this story before. Nevertheless, I love these books (The League Series) .

I love this entire series . The stories are so well-written , and even though they are science fiction they're very believable . The heartbreak and horror that a lot of the main characters experience is very moving and realistic . When they manage to achieve the type of life that they deserve, the story truly shines . I would recommend this to anyone that loves a good science fiction opera , and I would recommend reading the entire series from the beginning . Can't wait for the next one !

One again Sherrilyn Kenyon blows your mind with an awesome read. The characters come alive and you just cannot help but turn the pages until you are finished reading the book. Only thing is it keeps you wanting more and more. I sincerely recommend this series to and only who enjoys alot of action, great characters and great story..

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's books! Cabarro is not one of my favorite's however. This is a good book, much better than most in this genre. The four stars are in comparison to her other works like Born of Defiance, and Born of Legend. If I were to compare her to JR Ward, for example, I would give this a 6 of 5 star rating. Although I like BDB, the characters seem unnecessarily dramatic. Kenyon's characters are stronger and more proactive I feel.

I'm a huge SK fan and I have all of her books. I have re-read them and I love the world she creates but this book was a horrible disappointment. It is choppy and pieced together from other books. Which isn't bad but it was paired with very little new material. Part of what I love about these books is how you get sucked into the emotion, you fall in love with their love story. This was not evident at all in this book. The author glazed over important piece of bonding with the characters. You never saw their love story, you only know that they loved each other at one point. In addition, the "surprise you have a son!" bit is a little tired. She did that with Fain and it felt a little reused. What was lacking was you never saw them grow as a couple or a family together. It was all very rushed and choppy.
I did like how Bas and Ember didn't have tortured lives. That plotline has gotten really old with her novels. He suffered a tragedy, but his life wasn't all tragic. So many of her other characters have had horrid lives that they can't possibly imagine love. That wasn't the case with Bas and I'm glad she broke that trend she's developed.

Sometimes I hope this series never ends every time I get the newest book I read until it's completed and then I go noooo when it gets close to the end. I hope that there is another book coming soon waiting that long was awful.

From the time of her first book till her latest, I have never missed a book. Characters that come to life and stay in your memory long past the last page. This to me is why I gave the book five star rating and will recommend it to others.

When this series began, I looked forward to every book. Except for messing with the time line a little, these books are great. That being said the current one seems to be a repeat of the last three, and not real good one. Too much back story (which we already reduced from the three previous books) and not enough about Ember and Bastien. Makes it seem there wasn't any in the first place. A bit sad really.

I am very disappointed with this story. I was looking forward to it since Born of Legend. That book was amazing. This one is literally a copy paste of previous books. Yes Kenyon at least took the story from Bastien point of view for the most part but not much different from past stories. There was too much overlap from previous books to make it worth buying at hardcover prices.

i just love Sherrilyn Kenyon and her books. born of vengeance is captivating and draws u into the world of the league rising and how so many unlikely characters support and band together to create an unbreakable bond of family. her worlds always have such depth, its so easy to place yourself in with the characters as if ur actually in the worlds with them and living among them. if you're looking for a great series to read definitely pick up these books u wont b able to put them down. i know i cant and am always bummed that i have to wait so long inbetween books cuz i read them so fast cuz i cant get enough of the world. sherrilyn Kenyon please keep making more of these books for as long as u can i love ur books and not just this series cant wait for ur next books to come out and more of this series!!!!!!!!

Normally I love Sherrilyn Kenyon books but was disappointed in this one. This one just took to many scenes from her last few books from this series and put them together with a little bit to tie them together. There was really very little new scenes.

I enjoy these books as they wrap all of the histories and stories of the families together. Yes, they may be a bit formulated but that is one of the reasons I like them. I look forward to another great story in the next book.

I have to admit that the reviews i read made me almost not get into this story for fear of disappointment. But love of this series and author won out! And i have to say though i see that for some it seemed to jump about a bit i had a wonderful time having peices of other stories brought back and intertwined seemlessly with the new story! I enjoyed this latest chapter in the saga! Well done again lady author! I cant wait for the next part! Forever a devoted reader!

Sherrilyn Kenyon has the most creative mind and has way of grabbing your attention from the first word and at the last word leaves you wanting more. Wonderful storyline and intriguing characters. Each book is better than the last, which does not seem possible, but it's true.

If you like the books you'll like this one. It occurs in the same timeline so there are repetitions of previously read books but it's mainly from Bastien's viewpoint. I love this collection and reread often from 1st book to last. Make up your own mind. I read the enjoy and not not pick.

You've sunk to a new low Kenyon. Bad enough Fain and Dancer's books were pretty much identical, but now you're robbing your readers for stories they've already read. This is not a "new" book. This book is 95% all the past times Fain, Dancer, and Jullien have ran into Bastien told from Bastien's perspective. Skip it, you don't need it. Literally nothing new here. At all.

I thought this book was a Miss! I rarely spend $15 on a digital, however with some exceptions I do and this writer is one them. I thought it was a jumbled mess and was greatly disappointed in this book.

I love this series but am finding it to have become a bit repetitive which is taking away the pleasure I have had from reading this series in the past. This has all of Sherrilyn's trademarks - revenge, action, bad guys, an heir to the throne that looses it only to battle his way back, evil family members, passion, war, battling across the universe and of course love. See where I am coming from, there's a recurring theme there. Yeah I know it's a love story but... I don't mind reading a book that has flashes back to the ones that came before them but I found the amounts in Born of Vengeance to be very distracting and the interactions between the vast amount of previous book characters, well for me anyway, is making for a very heavily convoluted plot line. Some would even say crowded, the different branch offs read tangled to me. I struggled similarly with The Dark Hunter Series, as more books were added, the less I enjoyed them as the similarities between storylines became annoying and less enjoyable to read until one day I said enough and stopped reading the series. Individuality is key to keeping a series alive. For now I will continue on in reading this series but I can't say for how much longer. I also would of liked to have seen more of Bastien and Ember in the ending, instead it flicks over to Nyk and Jules, which seemed abrupt and disjointed leaving things unfinished when it came to the main characters of this particular storyline.

Reading this was awesome!!! It was like a time hop almost because you had to go back several years so you were reminded of what happened to who OR you were given another glimpse at it from someone else's point of view. It was so cool to get, almost a history lesson on some of the background of these people. This had to happen though so that you were able to see the start of the relationship between Bastien and Ember and the world around them and then going forward to see how everything evolves.
The book, does, however focus on Bastien and Ember. As always, Ms Kenyon does a fantastic job of writing characters that are interesting, kick ass and just too cool for Earth! The time that she puts into her writing is incredible and it shows! The H and h are separated for so long and yet their love is strong and it's the only thing that has gotten them through until they are reunited. And what a reunion it is!! Ms Kenyon does NOT write pathetic little women!
While probably not my favorite book by this author, it's still one I enjoyed. I don't think I could ever read one of her works and NOT enjoy it, honestly. She is truly talented beyond words. While there was a lot of story from other books, it did help fill in the story of how Bastien knew everyone, how the world around was changing and I thought it was awesome, having that knowledge. Lol, I see other reviews on the store don't agree though :(

After I finished this book, I closed it and was happy. Thinking immediately about writing a review it was going to be a well-deserved five stars, so, even though I had read other reviews before writing my own, I have kept to my original feel for the book.
There has been a lot of comments about the repetitiveness in this book and I have to say I do agree. BUT, I didn't feel bored or annoyed. It jogged my memory about the other characters and the ongoing story line. I read so much and more or less the same genre that the ol' brain cells need a bit of a nudge!!
I loved reading this book. I have read the others and loved them too. The families are growing and characters are still coming alive, the book is still action packed and plot lines are coming together. The romance side of the books are all more or less the same but once again, for me it does not matter. I love the banter between characters, some of it has good laugh out loud moments. I like the fact that there is forgiveness as well as hatred between some of the characters.
This book has a bit of everything in it and I would recommend it. I can’t wait for the next one, but I suppose I will have too!!

I enjoyed this book more than the previous one and this book actually made me like Jullien more than his own book (too much whining in it for me).
Where you do have a bit of other books in it, not to the extent of say Dragonmark in which 75% of the book was other people's stories and the end was like "oh yeah we have to finish it." Also, it is broken up with Ember so it is not a completely straight read from the previous books.
Bastien was betrayed in the worst way by those he trusted, including Ember who never came clean as to why she denied his marriage proposal (that still upsets me a bit), but her betrayal was not on the lines of say Zarya (who I will never like).
Bastien is also betrayed in a similar way to Darling, his uncle is the one that kills his "entire" family, and lies that he is responsible. Different from Darling, Ember knows that Bastien is not that type of man and that he is innocent.
If you read the samples on SK's website then you know that he marries Ember's sister through an act of betrayal by both Ember (who is too frightened to marry him due to Bastien's father's threat and she doesn't confide in Bastien) and her sister drugging him and lying about being pregnant (she never was). Through all that Bastien does not lose faith in Ember not once and that shows a true strength of character. Bastien stays true to himself throughout and never took what others said about someone to heart but formed his own opinions of them based on his reactions.
Bastien proves himself to be a loyal, hardworking, tough bastard to kill and honorable man to the end, with the vengeance for his family and his love for Ember the things that keep him going throughout the tough time he spent as Ravin.
The end is quite interesting as they capture Kyr (though he gets away) but even more interesting is that Bastien also imprison's Syn's mother. YES, she is still the overseer and Bastien tells her she should hope her son shows her more mercy than she ever showed him. That little nugget tickled me to the end.
Though I did like the afterward, I did not like the picture that she has started painting of Nyk or the path she is taking Thia down. She paints Nyk, through Thia's eyes as a stiff, uncaring, cold person who loves her less than his own children and that his family is unwelcoming of her (even though she continually states that they all love her as much as they do all the others) and as such Thia comes off as a brat who doesn't even try to understand her father.
I do like that the brothers are making an attempt to get closer and bridge the divide but no attempts are made to bring the family (father and mother) closer to their son in any way (with the war going on you would think there would be work put towards healing the wounds.
Also, she paints quite the dichotomy between the two Andarian species with the Fyrebloods being more loving and open than the others. In my opinion if you are going to do that then you need to explore or at least explain WHY the Ixurians (sp) are how they are instead of just painting them as cold and heartless.
I think Bastien's book would have been better coming out before Jullien's and should have been just as long. I feel cheated out of his story and the story of a character that I honestly liked from his introduction and forced fed a ridiculously long story about a character that I maybe could have learned to like (as I did with Styxx) if she had not ruined every other character that I had come to like just to redeem him and flood it with excuse after excuse after excuse.
On a side note, at the end, I get the impression that there is something brewing between Thia and Chayden and wonder if that story will ever come out and I hope it ends well as I like the Psycho Bunny.

Born of Vengeance is part of The League series. This can be read as a standalone. But as with all of The League books, they are intertwined and it really helps if you have read the previous books to get the entire story. There is violence and sex scenes so 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This story is primarily about Bastien and Ember. And to effectively tell Bastien's story also involves Jullien as well as many other characters from the other League books.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author did a good job of summarizing the series for new readers to give them a better understanding of Bastien's backstory and why he has decided to come out of hiding. It has well developed characters and a great storyline. There is a lot of history between characters that keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. The story starts out with fast paced action and that continues throughout the book. It is amazing how much story, details, and action the author packs into the book. Along the way there are unexpected surprises as well. This book definitely kept me riveted and I had a hard time putting it down.
The League is a series definitely worth reading. Will I continue to read future books in the series? Of course I will!! Sherrilyn Kenyon is a grand master at intertwining her books so you read about some of the same events in multiple books. But each of those intertwined events are viewed from the character the book is about. You definitely see new things about that event each time you read one of her books as well as view characters differently.

Tenth in The League: Nemesis Rising science fiction romance soap opera series and revolving around warrior outcasts, royal and otherwise, in the Ichidian Universe. The focus is on Bastien Cabarro, branded murderer and former prince of Kirovar.
My Take
Using third-person point-of-view, Born of Vengeance is a soap opera of warring, betraying characters. I wish Kenyon had included a family tree to show how everyone is related, egods. I'm not even sure this one would make sense (relationship-wise) if I'd read every story one after the other. Mmm, just figured out that the last The League story I read was back in 2012.
I do like Kenyon's The League series, in general, because the good guys win and woman are equal. But part of my problem here was Kenyon's leaping about in the story and amongst the characters. Too many pronouns that I couldn't attribute to a name(s). Of course, part of my problem could be that I've missed the last four stories in the series. Where does the time go?? And Kenyon does not do well with explaining these organizations, countries, families, what have you…
As for Born of Vengeance, this is one where I didn't like the primary female protagonist. What an idiot. As for her family…oh, lord. Another bunch of idiots. Sure, they're good at what they do, but they're still stupider than turkeys, and Alura was a weak excuse to set up this soap opera.
I really, really don't understand why the sisters haven't cut Alura off. If I had a sister who was this bad, she'd be dismissed from my orbit so fast. As for Bastien's siblings (and his father), I'm sorry, but Kenyon did not endear them to me; all they do is shriek at him, denigrate him, and abuse him, which seems to be a family failing on both the paternal and maternal sides. In the "second" half of the book, she's trying to make them, seem all endearing, but it ain't working. Not after the way she depicted them at the start.
Bastien is a great guy, even if he does make a few bad choices — why wouldn't he insist on a DNA test before marrying the bitch?
Events in Born of Vengeance do demonstrate why you can't accept any kind of celebrity news as gospel truth. Poor guy. Especially when Ember has her sacrificial moment. Oh. Brother. One of those tropes I really hate: the I'll-sacrifice-my-love-for-love-of-my-man. She's been with the guy for a year and doesn't get it?
The series description claims you can read each story without having read the others, and I'd have to agree with that…f you're the type who isn't that interested in other characters' stories. And Born of Vengeance is interesting (if incredibly confusing) to read, if only to find out how it all works out. And that "interesting" is why I bumped it up to a "3".
The Story
A cataclysmic betrayal finds Bastien on the run from all he held dear, all that's left of what he loved, anyway. Branded, declared a murderer, he's been sentenced to running from his executioners in a situation where the average life span is six weeks.
It's pure and absolute luck that Bastien finds allies, friends, who understand.
The Characters
Captain (and visir) Bastien "Badger" Cabarro. His mother, Øda / Ødara, Lia Triosan ydayra Cabarro (Triosan is her maiden name), is empress. His father, Sa / Saðir, is the emperor of Kirovar, Newell Cabarro. Quin is Bastien's oldest brother and heir to the throne; Myrna is a political activist whose tongue was cut out. Lilian is their older sister. Commander General Barnabas Cabarro is in command of both the Gyron Force, prime commander of the the Kirovarian armed forces, and Bastien's uncle. Cala is one of Barnabas' granddaughters and Neville's daughter. Jackson is another uncle. Iskander Zeki is Bastien's illegitimate half-brother with his father's mistress, Odile.
The Sentella is…
…a rival organization to the League. Prince Nykyrian "Nyk", a.k.a., Nemesis, is Jullien's twin brother and head of the Sentella. Thia Quiakides is Nyk's daughter. Kiara is Nyk's second wife ( Born of Night , 1). Terry, Tier, Adron, Jayce, and Zarina are the rest of their children.
Prince Jullien eton Anatole is Bastien's favorite cousin, even if he is half Andarion and half human, and the child his family despises. He becomes a Tavali officer. Ushara is Jullien's wife with Vasili, her son and Jullien's adopted son. Viv and Mira are their twin daughters. Vidar is born during this story.
Aros eton Anatole is Jullien's hateful father (his paka), Bastien's maternal uncle, and emperor of his own lands. Cairistiona is the woman Aros wanted to marry; I think she's Jullien and Nyk's mother. Jullien's maternal Andarion grandmother, Eriadne, is nuts and has had most of her family assassinated.
Fain Hauk is an Andarion and had been a friend of Bastien's; Omira Antaxes is his ex-wife. Galene Batur is the woman who has always had Fain's heart. Talyn "Iron Hammer" is an Andarion Ring fighter and Fain's son. Dancer "Akuma" Hauk is Jullien's best friend, Fain's younger brother, and former League, now a Sentella. Darice is Dancer's nephew. Sumi, Omira's sister, is a trained League assassin and with Dancer. Kalea Hauk.
Prince Darling "Kere" Cruel is an old Caronese schoolmate of Bastien's and a Sentella. He's married to Zarya ( Born of Silence , 5); they've just had a baby son, Cezar. Prince Drake Cruel is Darling's brother; his ship is Saker Mara.
Ryn "Precious Cargo" Dane is an older half-brother and ambassador of the Tavali joint Nations and the Wasturnum VA. Ryn's wife is the pregnant Mack. Hermione "Kirren" is Ryn's mother. Yra is first officer on Ryn's ship.
Gorturnum Tavali
I think they're an organization like the League and Sentella. Ember hooks up with the Tavalis. Florian "Rian" is her son. Jalyna "Jay" Xever, a Fyreblood Andarion and captain of their ship. Ushara is also the Tavali's vice admiral and Jay's sister. Trajen is their high admiral.
Prince Chayden Aniwaya of the Qill empire. Caillen Dagan is his nephew and Princess Desideria's husband ( Born of Shadows , 4).
Syn Wade is Ritadarion ( Born of Fire , 2). Xander. They're with Dancer: Jupiter "Jup" Hinto. I'm not sure, but it's possible that Jory Woods Hinto, son of Gadgehe Hinto (the HAP of the Septurnum Nation) is also Jupiter. Unira Samari is a high priestess and Jullien's adoptive mother, Thrāix is a Trisani. I think he's had a son with his wife, Mary: Admon Simon Eteocles Sparda, a.k.a., Sphinx. Ushara is Mary's sister. Driana was someone's daughter.
Major Ember "Wildstar" Wyldestarrin was Gyron Force and in love with Bastien. Lieutenant Aurora "Alura" Wyldestarrin is Ember's baby sister, a nasty bitch whom I don't understand why her sisters haven't killed her yet. Kindel, Cinder (she's married to Tasi), Brandy, and Ashley. Brandon is their deluded father; Colonel Charlotte Wyldestarrin is their equally deluded mother. Aunt Tish.
Gyron Force is…
…an elite military unit in Kinrovia. Colonel Werrin is Ember's superior officer assigning her an unwanted subject. Colonel Syrin Dayan is Ember's ex. General Dayan is Syrin's father.
The League was…
…an alliance originally formed (under the leadership of the Quorum) to battle a ruthless tyrant and evolved into a universal police organization. The League Assassins is a subgroup of soldiers. Unfortunately, the League itself has become corrupt. It's currently led by Kyr Zemin. A Ravin has a target painted on them, used for practice by League assassins-to-be.
Safir Jari was a League assassin and Zemin's younger brother until Kyr declared him a traitor.
The Trigon Court is headed up by Alia, the Overseer. Justiss had been Kindel's angry husband, who provides the reasoning behind Ember's stupid decision. Zusa means sister. I think a theren is a brother. A monidar is the ruler. Aksel Bredeh is a now-dead scumbag whose house is located on the Oksanan desert planet. Hiller is one of the Bolodorians, freelance assassins. The Dread Reckoning are lawless renegades and miscreants. Pheara and Telise are part of a group of female bounty hunters. Dancer keeps calling them haritas.
Andarions have fangs. Trisani have psionic powers and are a virtually extinct race. Other planets/races include the Caronese, Garvons, Gourish, and Exeterians.
The Cover and Title
The cover is DARK with Bastien's face emerging from a deep brown background. In front of him is an elaborate sword hilt. The author's name and title are in an embossed gold…a lousy choice as neither stands out. The tiny series information is in white at the bottom.
The title is Born of Vengeance and could be the new Bastien who comes through.
My Take
Using third-person point-of-view, Born of Vengeance is a soap opera of warring, betraying characters.

The latest in the League series we get to learn more about Bastien Cabarro, erstwhile Kirovarian prince who has been under a League death sentence for years for supposedly murdering his family. Needless to say, he was framed. I had a hard time with this book. Not because Bastien isn't as broodingly tragic and initially clueless as the rest of the heroes in this series, because he is, but because the sisters are so appallingly unsympathetic and unrealistic.
It's glaringly apparent practically from page one that Alura is a Class A bitch. And yet none of her family members call her on it. None of them. Ever. Including Ember, who is supposedly a high ranking special forces officer. Who ever heard of a special forces officer who didn't exhibit a certain amount of courage and self-confidence? But no. Ember turns into a hand wringing shrinking violet whenever she is confronted with her spoiled little sister. All of her supposedly militaristic sisters do. I found that particularly unbelievable. Even if the parents chose to ignore every single one of Alura's glaring faults, five older sisters are unlikely to refrain from putting her firmly in her place or, at the very least, never believing a single word that came out of her mouth.
Unrealistic family dynamics aside, Bastien winds up as the scapegoat of his uncle's nefarious plot to murder his parents and steal the throne. He then spends about ten years dodging a League death sentence. Possibly the best thing that comes out of this period of his life is that Bastien connects up with his paternal cousin Jullien, who is also under a familial death warrant, and who turned out to be surprisingly sympathetic and heroic in Born of Legend. Jullien keeps in touch with Bastien who is hiding out, ironically enough, in the same smuggler's den featured in Born of Night. Jullien also smuggles much needed supplies to Bastien whenever he is able to do so. At this point Bastien's story intersects significantly with other books in the League series, specifically Born of Fury. We get to experience large chunks of Hauk's story retold from Bastien's perspective.
Of course, the heart of the story revolves around Bastien's feelings for Ember and vice versa. The pair are reunited under perilous circumstances as Bastien attempts to clear his name and avenge his family. Bastien learns that Alura lied to him about a significant fact (shock!) and that Ember is actually the mother of his son that he has never met. Bastien now has even more reason to clear his name in order to protect Ember and Florian from his evil uncle. Ember's sisters, who now have miraculously seen the light with respect to Alura, jump on board to help. With their assistance Bastien learns not only that he has a half brother he never knew existed but that not quite all of his family had been killed as he thought. Bastien discovers enough evidence to confront his uncle, with an ax, and clear his name, thereby retaking his throne. Bastien and Ember finally get their happily ever after but queue the foreshadowing of evil yet to come when Kyr escapes custody before Nykerion can collect him.
The ending promises more adventure to come! (less)

How far would you go for vengeance? Bastien just wants to be the same as everyone else but he is part of the royal family as so much is expected of him. He has found that being part military the most rewarding thing that he has done and he is about to meet the one woman that will change his world. Ember knows that he is bad news and that she will probably land up been hurt but she gives him a chance and that will change the very course of her destiny.
Bastien makes some bad choices after Ember breaks up with him and he lands up marrying her sister and that starts a downward spiral for them all. Bastien is accused of murdering his family and he is sent off planet to become a outcast and means doing what he has to survive. Ember loses her family as well and she is lost for a while but her sisters are still with out except the one that sold them out. Will they ever find each other again or will they both be lost forever? Will they both get their revenge and will Ember be able to let Bastien see the one thing that has given her hope all the time that he was gone?
We get to see more of the previous characters from other books and we get to see how they have grown and what has happened since. What another great book in the series, we are never let down. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Let me say I've read every single book in the league series and after Julian's book my heart really couldn't take much more of the hero's life being destroyed by the people that were supposed to love him. Bastian's book starts off with the light hearted playboy meeting the girl that will change his whole world. These two are perfect for each other even if it does take some time for them to find each other again.
Something don't change though. I despise pretty much all of Bastian's family. They are week and should have stood by his side. I had moments that cussed and yelled at Em most of the book. I wanted her to stand at his side and she disappointed me so much. She finally got it together but it took a moment.
Fantastic story and I can't wait for the next installment to this series.

This is the worst one of the series by far out of the ones I've read (maybe 5 of them?)
It glances over how they meet which seems like it could be the basis of most of the story.
Then we skip to later on where it uses 80% recycled materials from other books without adding in any significant new viewpoints.
Then the ending is... not very interesting.
And even with the recycled material it's shorter than the rest. It should have been a novella, or nothing at all.

If you've read and was disappointed with SK's Dragonmark, you won't feel too much better with this book. I would say 50-60% of the book is from previous books BUT the good thing with BOV is that they are completely in Bastian's POV. A lot of flashbacks but also a lot of unanswered questions too.
Is it worth the anticipation? No.
Is it a good read? To an extent, yes, it is still entertaining.
Worth the price? Probably not. It would have been better if this just get released as paperback immediately.
Net, it was an ok read. Definitely not great.

I personally love this book! It isn't a main point book for me, but a nice side book for Bas. I can't wait for the next one. Writing style is the same level of greatness as are the characters. And yes while there are some clips from other books it is now told from Bas's perspective and is colored by his emotions and experiences. Which makes re-reading those parts cool. We get to see both sides of it from everyone's point a view since we have all I assume read the previous books. So don't let that stop you from enjoying a good read.

First off, I almost skipped this book after reading many of the reviews here, and I have never considered skipping reading a League novel or novella. I didn't dislike the story so much that I could bring myself to give it less than 3 stars, but this isn't exactly the best of Kenyon's work.
Yes, a lot of it is almost complete copy and paste from sections of prior books (Born of Legend and Born of Fury). My other complaint is that it was rushed, and Ember's character and family are left under developed. The author skips large periods of time between chapters, normally this habit doesn't bother me, but in this case it just didn't work, instead it made the story feel incredibly rushed. She spends way more time on Bastien and his family than she does Ember and her family. This should have been written/released at a different point in this series, preferably prior to Born of Legend. As much as I love the League series, sometimes it is hard/annoying to keep up with the series time line within individual books since many events overlap and/or precede previous books.
Born of Vengeance re-tells a number of events chronicled in prior books, but this time from Bastien's point of view. I'd have given the book 4 stars, but I couldn't get over one thing. The rushed manner of this book and lack of a decent developed story for Ember felt like a huge let down after having just finished Born of Legend where everyone, including Bastien and Ember, felt so alive to me. It simply felt like Kenyon didn't care enough about these two characters to give them proper attention in their own book. Whether it was the failing of the author or the publisher rushing the author, I don't know, but I really hope it doesn't happen again in this series. I'd much rather wait a little longer for a book to be released than to have to give my favorite author a mediocre/bad review.
On a side note, I really enjoyed the short bonus story included at the end, which I would give 5 stars. I really hope Kenyon writes a story for Thia some day, even if it is just a novella.

If your a regular reader of the league books than you may be disappointed, because this book repeats lot of information that the other books have had. Now there is some new information in it. I have to say this is not one of my favorite books, but I like how she is tying all the past books with the future books to come. I also love the bonus scene at the end of the book that I love. I will continue to read the league series for a love time.

This latest book is about Bastien and Ember and getting revenge on the family members who ruined their lives. I really liked these two. Like past books in the series there were a few repeated scenes but this time from Bastien's point of view. I like that Kenyon does that, it's interesting seeing events from different characters point of view. Naturally, I loved this book. There hasn't been a book in this series that I didn't like.
There is also a bonus story at the end of this book featuring Nykyrian & Julian.

This entire book was a waste. I was so excited for Bastien tale after the glimpses we caught in previous novels. I felt we would have a darkly funny hero for once who didn't let the trauma completely eat him. Instead not only did we have a regurgitated character but 2/3rds of the book are straight copy and pasted out of precious novels where we first meet and run into the main character. And don't even get me started on the cop out the ending to his story actually was. In the less than 90 pages of original content there was nothing there to make us care about the new heroine or the action. And the action was so rushed and insubstantial that it did not matter.

A crushing disappointment!! I was so looking forward to another novel in what has been one of my all time favourite series. This book was so poorly written, disjointed, pieced together, skipped to entirely different time periods. How did it get published?!?! Aside from the premise always the same: being betrayed by family losing the one they love because of some misunderstanding- the prior novels were well written the plot kept the reader turning the pages , this one I gave up on and quite possibly the series as well .

Like the other reviews I have just read, I'm little heart broken as Sherrilyn Kenyon was one of the reasons I got back into reading after two decades of just not being interested in reading at all. Sadly the previous two books in this series have been declining and I have noticed the same in the Dark Hunter series.. I'm not sure if Ms Kenyon is looking to go in another direction with her writing style, but I'm sure like most of the reader's we like a little spice with our alpha's and I think there was about a total of three sentences in this one. Not sure I'll be back......very sad!

Love SK. But as others have said not her best. This felt like it was a wrap up of the series even though there are a few characters without their stories. I have noticed a change in SKs books. There are less torchered souls. I cry less. I just think maybe she doesn't want to go there anymore. There wasn't a big ending here in this book. Just a simple story. I do miss the angst though.

Let me preface this by saying i am a huge Sherrilyn Kenyon fan. I've been reading her books for 20 years now. I started reading The League when they first came out in the 90's. Each year I wait for her most recent League book to come out, stay up until midnight, download the book and then read it all (and considering I am the divorced mother of 4 with 2 jobs, that is huge for me). Of course I've liked some books more than others - I have reread all of the previous books about every other month except Born of Legend (I ready that almost monthly) but Born of Vengence was very disappointing. I don't necessarily agree that the book was 95% rehashed, a sigificant portion of it was (25% probably) was. Since the book was notably shorter than any of the other books, it did seem fairly significant. I didn't feel like I really didn't learn anything new (except for the extra about Thia at the end) and there definitely wasnt enough interaction with the core characters . It also seemed that the book ended rather abruptly and left me hanging. At least it was a League book. Next year, when the newest League book comes out, I will once again wait up until midnight, download the book and read it all again and hope for the best. By the way, did you see the blooper?

So dissatisfied with this book. Most of it was taken from other books in the series. In many cases it was word for word the same - the POV didn't even change. I don't mind flashbacks but this was ridiculous and unfortunate.
I liked the story the first time I read so it isn't that the content is bad - the rating is based on the fact that I've read it before and the new material could have been a novella in substance.

Genuinely disappointing. And I have read a lot of crap over the years!!
There was no character development, half the book was shamelessly pulled from other books (without even a change in perspective!) and the only really good part was the bonus story about Jules, Nyk and Thia.
I don't write reviews, but I was so shocked at the low standard of this book that I actually feel as if people need to have their Sherri standard lowered. She is much better than this and I hope Nero's book gets the story it deserves, Bastien was done a huge disservice.

I loved this book and the entire series!! The way it brings together and connects all of the other couples! I could just re-read this entire series again and again!! So glad to have finally gotten Bastien's story!

Although I absolutely LOVED parts of this story (the new material), the majority was just a re-telling of the same scenes from previous books. Really, about 75% of this story is composed of parts from previous books.
The author set up the premise of the story quite well; however, it was sadly predictable from the beginning and failed to give credence to the actions and reactions of the H and h throughout the story. The H and h were rarely together (about 25% total in the entire book) and when they were, I did not feel the emotions the author was trying to convey between them. There was so much going on with the story between the H and h and their families that the minuscule amount of page space given did not do the H and h's story justice. Instead we were forced to read what I consider a slightly elaborated and roughly edited outline of this story with 75% of recycled "fluff" added in. Harsh...yes, but when the "new" parts of the story that are about the relationship between the H and h start out with "3 months later, or "he remembered when," are combined with VERY LITTLE supporting information, it stands out like a sore thumb. Combine this with the amount of recycled content from previous stories, it just makes the author appear lazy.
I was sorely underwhelmed with this story and would definitely recommend waiting until the price drops to purchase.

Love this series. The characters in The League are rich and different and draw you in to each of their stories. Love that Kenyon is taking us across the universe and giving us a series set in the stars.

I love the League series and all of the characters in it, but this book was mostly Bastien's point of view on interactions we have already seen in the series. There wasn't anything new in these interactions--in fact, looking back, the dialogue--heavy scenes are almost exactly alike. Bastien doesn't meet up with his love interest (Ember) until Chapter 10 (60% through the book) and when he does, it just doesn't have the emotional impact that Kenyon's other books do. There was an immediate "surprise" when they meet up, but it doesn't seem to have any real impact on the characters like Fain Hauk's similar shock did. After he meets up with Ember, the story resolves itself fairly quickly, with no real plot twists or unexpected action.
I would recommend waiting until it's out in paperback if you're not a die-hard fan who has to read it now. There is a very short bonus scene at the end with Nyk, Jullian, and Thia, but again, there's no reason to rush to read it.

Bastian and Ember's story was awesome! Sherrilyn Kenyon can't pump these books out fast enough for me! Looking forward to finding out who the next book is about! Plus, the bonus story at the end was extra special to read!

I would say this book was a good closure for the bad U uncle that needed killing. Bastien is a solid character that surprised me, I also liked meeting the newly installed undead brother. Maybe an intro to a future book in this series (Thia?) Loved this read, every book in this series doesn't miss.

Read the prvious three books and you have read this whole book. Honestly think Kenyon should finish of her series and start fresh because they are all becoming redudant and predictable. I won't be buying another one of her works after this and julians book....

Sherrilyn Kenyon never fails to please! Her League books became a fast favorite for me. I loved Bastian's story just as I loved all the other books and characters in this world. There is always a good depth to the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone, I enjoy immensely turning people on to her Dark-Hunter series as well as this one.

So much is just verbatim from last book it was boring. Maybe Ms kenyon should lose cut and paste... I am an avid fan. I read all her stuff this was a very unworthy book from her. Was just laziness... on her part. Love the series. Hate this book.
Please RateBorn of Vengeance: The League: Nemesis Rising
If it were just this series would be bad enough, but this has become the norm for all of her last books across the board. So many cross overs and interwoven story lines, even she can't keep them straight anymore. My kids had read the Nick Chronicles but stopped when each book became a day in the life and they would pull old copies to find plot errors between them.
oh well, I can still go back and read the old ones once in a while.
