Dark Side of the Moon I have waited for what seemed like forever of this book. Maybe my expectations were just too high. Ravyn and Sarah are really cool characters. And he is unique among the other dark hunters out there. But at the end of the book I just felt let down.

If this a your first Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter Novel you will probably enjoy the ride. But for those readers who have been on this ride since the begining there maybe some disappoinment. Simi does not make an appearance for barbque, Ash is not in control and well there is no way to discribe how what happens to the most annoying squire ever.

Over all a good read jumps on the action wagon very quick.

But I found there to be something missing that I have loved in all the other Dark Hunter Novels.

However, I can't wait for the next book to come out so that I can have my Dark Hunter fix.

Ms Kenyon does it again. You think you know the DH mythology, you ain't seen nothing yet! The first thing I did after reading this book is contact my friends because we just had to talk about it.

I am not a fan of hardcover romances but I have to say, they picked a perfect DH book to start off in hardcover. Ms Kenyon does not let you down. I loved the heroine. She is totally kick a$$ and the hero is so yummie, I really want to pet him, with my tongue, LOL. This is a book that will have her fans pulling out their hair trying to figure out what is going to happen with the series yet the romance and storyline between Ravyn and Susan is at the forefront as it should be. Reading Dark Side makes me want to read the series all over again just because I had so much fun with this book.

As far as moving the story arc along Dark Side of the Moon could be skipped. It's a shame this is Sherrilyn Kenyon's first hardcover book, it's really not worth the money, even discounted 40%. I agree with the reviewer who said, "It was kind of lame."

Dark Side of the Moon is practically the same story as told in previous books.

Daimons plotting a city-wide uprising

Ash can't help because he's stuck on Olympus

Same old sex scene with Ash and Artie

New D-H's--some die

Grumpy cats instead of bears running a Sanctuary-like bar

A disrespectful, wisecracking squire

Dark-Hunter wakes up naked in heroine's home; they meet for the first time

No Simi, and that's just a shame.

It's set in Seattle instead of NOLA, and you'd think the ambiance of the city or the rainy weather would be more of a factor, it wasn't. So basically it could have been anywhere that has Starbucks.

The two main characters were ok, but not memorable. Nick is just annoying, you want to slap him.

One thing I'm wondering about is when were Nick and Ash best buds? I've read all of the books and I don't remember any deep relationship between Nick and Ash, until it was stated by SK when Nick had his one night stand with Simi.

I'm still awaiting Ash's books. I know SK has said they won't be the end of the series but maybe they should be. Hopefully, Ms. Kenyon doesn't phone those in too.
The Dream-Hunter (A Dream-Hunter Novel, Book 1) :: Cloak & Silence (The League) :: Sins of the Night (Dark-Hunter - Cover may vary :: A Short Story Collection (Dark-Hunter Novels) - Dark Bites :: Kiss of the Night (Dark-Hunter, Book 5)

I also had a hard time reading this book and had to force myself to read it as well. I thought about just stopping the book and going on to another but I felt I needed to finish. I didn't feel as invested in these characters as I did with ones in the past. I also feel that Ravyn needed to be more developed. I do not feel that this book is necessary to read for the series.

I'm not talking about grammar or spelling or even tense shifting, although there was some of that. The mistakes which bothered me have to do with constancy. SK seems to be changing the rules to her world just when we are all hooked and to have this be the first hardcover DH release, well it was disappointing.

The main couple was less than stimulating, with Raven just falling into the poor pitiful me routine and Susan was so awesome she fell right into being a Squire. Personally I would have liked to see her fumble a bit; she was way too arrogant to be likable. Then there was Ash. The whole six orgasms in an hour bit, way overdone, and what has happened to Katra? I've been hoping to see her since she disappeared in Val's book, but here we are three full novels later and still waiting.

The worst part was Nick. He's just angry and stupid, not smart mouthed yet loveable anymore. I think he had a personality-ectomy while hanging in the afterlife.

I think I'll wait for paperback from now on.

Kenyon has had me hooked from the first paragraph of the first book of hers I read. She has a great sense of characters and knows how to keep a thread running through all of her books that has her readers desperate to buy the next book. Dark Side of the Moon holds up to expectation. I couldn't put it down and was sorry when I read the last page because it meant I have to wait for the next one.

The writing quality alone makes me cringe when reading a Sherrilyn Kenyon book. However, every now and then she produces a gem of a story that helps you forget that she is writing a book a third grader could read. Not the case with this one. The plot is boring and the romance between the main characters is non-existent. Bad writing, bad plot, bad romance - I am done with this series.

"It wasn't in Susan's nature to follow anyone's orders," this statement - stated numerous times in the first few pages of the book - along with the heroine acting like a bratty teenager really turned me off of this book. I really disliked the female lead character from the very beginning of the book. I have read all of Ms Kenyon's Dark Hunter novels and this is the only one that gave me a headache. We all love spunky, gutsy heroines with smart comebacks, which I think the author was trying to create. But this one is insensitive and immature. She smart mouths in spite of dire circumstance she is in. For example, she spews out several wisecracks soon after she finds out her best friends have been murdered and the hero is in front of her, his body riddled with bullets which he got while shielding her. Does that sound like an pleasant character to you?

If you are a diehard dark Hunter fan like me, and still want to read this book then I suggest you get it from the library instead of wasting your money on a hardcover.

Well, I am reading all these bad reviews and dont get it myself. I thought it was an awesome book. Maybe not one of the best written, but it was still good. Susan wasnt all that bad, being very sarcastic myself, I could relate.

These books are fiction, come on people. I can see the less heart in the plot, this one didnt tug the heartstrings AS MUCH as some of the others, but you still feel the sadness.

I liked Ravyn as a hero, he was a good one. Seeing Nick again was not exactly a surprise as I knew hed be in this book, but what he has turned into was shocking. Although it fits considering what he went through. I dont know why everyeone expected Nick to be the same old character. Him changing was almost a given. Hello!! His mom was killed and he feels betrayed by one of his best friends. Would you be the same happy go lucky person after you killed yourself to get revenge you couldnt have and feel you were cheated out of??

No book should be the same as any before it. Not the same tone, plot or situations. People seem to be upset they are not reading carbon copies of their favorite books in the series.

Ive got my favorites of the series, and some that were not as good as the ones i love, but they are all good books. EVERY ONE OF THEM. So, I will continue to read them religiously and everyone who gives up are not going to know what they are missing. This is still an awesome series that shows no signs of slowing down or stopping anytime soon. There are too many possibilites for the stories. Too mnay ways it can go and all kinds of stories that can still be written. We still have old characters to learn of, and new ones that are still making appearences. Diferent "cultures" to go into, its is still as far as the eye can see.

So, until these books actually get "bad" Im a loyal reader. They dont know what their missing and its their loss. Great series and still highly recommended.

I love the DH series but this book really disappointed me. i felt as thought i had wasted the twenty dollars it cost me to buy the book. i felt that the characters had no chemistry, and as a result i could not buy into the thought that the two of them would fall in love. i felt that the -plot and setting for this book came out of no where. i did not think that Ravyn was a strong character in comparison to the development of Kenyons other male characters, he had no depth. he had nothing in my opinion to recommend him as a character worth a full novel. if you like the DH series and want to keep up with whats going on, then i say the book is worth it. right now i am reading the books for that reason alone. however, if you are thinking about reading this book for a juicy read and great romance, this is not the one.

I completely agree with all the reviewers before me! This series is slowly disintegrating before our eyes.

I too would like to read a book (even if I'd have to wait a long time for it) that would at least match the girst books of the series.

The characters really seem there only for the benefit of the reader/writer and add nothing to an already shalow and plot-less story.

The bad thing is that Ms Kenyon is ruining even the old characters, the ones that made us fall in love with the series in the first place. I'm talking about Acheron Parthenopaeus. Maybe he has another evil twin posing for him in this story, because I didn't catch even a glimpse of the original Ash in here.

And let's not talk about his relationship with Nick. What was that all about?!

I bought this book in hardcover in hope of getting a certain improvement from the last few books in teh series, but alas it didn't happen.

It was a complete waste of money and I can guarantee I'll wait for the next one to hit the shelves in paperback.

Because I will continue reading this series, because I love it too much to just go cold-turkey. I just hope it'll improve soon, or I'm afraid it's going to start losing fans pretty soon. It sure isn't gaining any new ones with this kind of performance.

Lord have mercy on the poor souls who make the poor decision to pick this book up. Hell, I can't even call this, this THING a book; it defies everything that makes a book a book. If I weren't so bu*t-lazy, I would get up and drench the rotten thing in gasoline and light it on fire (despite it being the library's property), all the while laughing manically...

Anyway, unlike many of the other reviewers for this horrendous piece of cr*p, I'm new to this author, Sherrilyn Kenyon. I have not read any of the previous books in the series, which have been reviewed to be quite good. I must say, as first impressions go, Ms. Kenyon has horribly failed to please me one iota. I picked up the book because, despite the common saying, I judged it by its cover; it was appealing, with the dark reds and burgundies mixed with black (all dark and -- pretty). Hell, I had ten minutes before the library closed, so I picked it up and thought, "It can't be that bad." Boy, am I an idiot when it comes to make split-second decisions; I would never make a good soldier...

Anywho, back to the main topic at hand: one-thousand-and-one good reasons why this book defies all that is good and pure to make human life miserable:

From the very beginning, each sentence proved so cheesy and cliched. I'm one reader who can read almost anything and enjoy it (heck, I've enjoyed reading certain biographies!). I especially like fantasy mixed with modern culture, so having so-called vampire-beings hundreds of years old roam around in the present time seemed appealing. Yet, the author failed to introduce anything that made her story original from all the other books out there that deal with the same kinds of dark beings out to save dumb humankind from even darker beings. But, wait, the only originality the author had was the cra*piness of the storyline. Ravyn seemed like a character attached to two opposite ends of the world; he would be all dark and evil (with red eyes; RED eyes people! How cheesy is that; only Rowling can get away with red eyes in this day and age, with Lord Voldie, without deserving to be shot) and then all, "Daddy, I want to be your son again, and, Susan, shag me 'cause you look like an angel." It made me really dislike him...And, Susan! For goodness sake, I've never met any character in any story (and I've read aplenty in my lifetime) who is so torturously annoying. She's so sarcastic, even in situations where a normal human being would have no sarcasm whatsoever. Plus, she's very irritating when it comes to her lack of following orders; sure, a hero/heroine should be independent and have his/her own mind, but not to the point where he/she does not like taking any orders whatsoever. Also, Susan's lack of fear is very unbelievable. When she first encounters the paranormal in her household (when Theo and the policemen come and start shooting), she goes and gets a baseball bat -- a bat! -- and starts fighting; once again, a hero/heroine should be strong and courageous, but not to the point of unrealistic stupidity. What kind of a moron would go get a baseball bat (when she just encountered a cat turning into a man) and start fighting with people with guns; it is a very unrealistic predicament.

Also, another thing wrong with the book was the every-other-second instances when raw emototion came out. For instance, you see one character or another (from humans to Dark-Hunters, who are all dark and vengeful inside) show moments of intense pain and sadness for something or another. I mean, you expect that they can cover their emotions, especially since they're warriors or something. Plus, the other people (like Susan) believe they hurt in sympathy when they can hardly cry for their own friends (who just died)...I know, my review is starting to make no sense, but you have to read the book and know what I mean since one would be like, "What's so wrong with showing emotion and feeling symathy," but, once again, one must read the story...

Last but not least (not by a long shot), the story also has no attention for time periods in history. For instance, Ravyn and his bros should not be referring to their father as "Dad" (for that vocabulary word, I'm sure, was not used back in the B.C. years; "Father" probably, but not "Dad"). Plus, I truly loathe the fact that hardly any of the main characters have any imperfections. All the Daimons are uncharacteristically beautful and Ravyn has no physical flaw whatsoever and blah and blah and blah. Like I said before, the story was very cheesy! Urrgghhh, it's frustrating!!

I don't know what to think right now. I feel utterly betrayed for reading this book. It's like a kid who just discovered that there really is no Santa. A raw hate for this book is clawing at my insides. It is not like I haven't read worst books in the past, for I have (but the quantity could be counted off on one hand), but this book just pissed the hell out of me. It's like I want to pull out my own hair and gouge at my own eyes just so that SOMEONE was feeling pain. I know, I sound very disturbed and someone who needs therapy, but rest assurred, I'm a very down-to-earth person.

Anyway, after this very long review, I guess I should come to an end (before I really give myself away for a lunatic). To summarize the very confusing and disturbing paragraphs poceeding this one, anyone who bought this book: I am truly sorry for your loss. I was fortunate enough to have borrowed this book from the library, so I did not have any worthless money-loss in the situation. This book is the epitome of BAD: it has no real plot, the characters are not developed (and very annoying at that), the romance sucks, the story does not make sense whatsoever, and it's just so damn cheesy and unrealistic to the point where the Easter Bunny actually being a lost astronaut from Planet Bunnyland (whatever) would be more believable. I just do not know what to think, and the worst part of the deal is that I have only read the book half-way through, but I have no intention of finishing it (even though I most likely will since causing self-pain is a specialty; there goes my loony side again). I can say this much: I will never make the mistake of reading a book of Ms. Kenyon's again (no matter how good her previous books are critiqued to be). First impressions are important, and this first impression was not a good one. I would have given it negative-thousand stars, but that option has been denied to me.

Anyway, adios everyone. This must have been the longest review I've written. I can't get my thoughts straight; it's all pent-up feeling that's writing. Whatever. I'm going to shut up now before I ruin my reputation as a sane human being any further...

For Eternity and More,
the Gibbler

This book was so hard to read. It started out slowly and our heroine was annoying and whiny and way too perfect in every situation. She can charm every dark-hunter with her journalistic style even though their survival has depended on their closed mouths for centuries, she fights with the best of them because of her SWORD Fighting training and her martial arts training with Dragon, and she just knows the right thing to say in every situation. Our hero gets caught trying to bed a lady in an alley and is collared and defenseless needing the heroine to rescue him right off the bat. How has he survived all these hundreds of years if he lets a stranger get that close? He seems kind of wimpy and that is not what I expect from a dark-hunter at all.

I am such a big fan of this series that I cannot hardly believe how badly I disliked this book. Ash seemed to be a shadow of his former self and having dark-hunters die at such an excellerated rate seemed like such a waste. It also feels like rules that have been set in stone starting with Kyrian's book have been bent if not completely broken. Being born an Appolite is the only way to become Daimon, Dark-Hunters are not to associate with anyone, especially Appolites, Hunters cannot stay in each other's prescence for any lenghth of time and yet in this book they willingly meet up twice.

I have started re-reading the entire series to see if I can make sense of all of these changes. In Kyrian's book we first meet a very young (24) Nick Gautier who would die for Kyrian without hesitation. Without spoiling this story, it is hard to see the young man we meet in this book making the destructive choices that Nick does. I just keep getting the sense of missed opportunities in these last few Dark- Hunter novels. I would have loved to read about Nick's orientation into the world of Dark-Hunters that he has been sworn to protect. I would love to read another dark- hunter book where I truly care about the characters and the storyline. I will cross my fingers that the Sherrilyn Kenyon who wrote Fantasy Lover and started us out on this magical Dark- Hunter journey will make a reappearance and start writing books that make me feel again. I am not sure that I will buy her in hardback again and it nearly breaks my heart to say that if the series continues this way I may not be around to read Ash's book when it comes out because I will have stopped caring about the Ash that is being written now.

This book is a disappointment. As with her last, it started okay and then went downhill all the way. A little sarcasm is okay, a lot is very annoying. Susan was defintely annoying. Rayvn deserved a better book and mate. I think Ms. Kenyon has written herself out. Perhaps a vacation would be a good idea. I am so afraid what will happen when she gets around to Ash's book. This expensive hardback book will probably be for sale on ebay soon.

I don't know why this book is arousing such a passionate dislike in some readers, because in all honesty it's not THAT bad. Most people are correct in their assessment of Susan - she is incredibly irritating and says stupid things but no more so than Tabitha (who in this reader's humble opinion has been by far the most stupidly cartoony 'empowered' heroine in the whole series). I think the biggest problem with this book and also the previous Sins of the Night is that it lacks heart. The characters lack heart, the plots lack heart, everything just lacks heart. By this I mean, that words and situations come off as incredibly surface and shallow. There are descriptions of horror and sadness but it never makes you take them in - ergo, you just couldn't care less. Why don't I just read Sweet Valley High and feel sorry for Jessica Wakefield because Bruce Patman made fun of her?

As happens with so many damn romances today, the hero and heroine just have a little mutual appreciation society going on ALL THE TIME!! There are doubts about the situation, but never about actually each other - no anger, no tension, no wanting to hurt the other for making them love them - you know, all the good 'dark side' stuff that JR Ward is currently pulling off so well.

Ravyn is quite sweet though - the scene where he is drugged with animal tranquiliser and becomes extremely affectionate is a lovely piece that is probably the most alive scene in the book. The introduction of Cael was promising but let everyone down by having such an unlikeable wife and letting Apollites get away with turning into Daimons. Nick showed occasional signs of being the same old Squire we used to love but mainly is as everyone says - caustic but I loved the new edge and his upcoming story is sure to be amazing.

I gave it three stars because despite all my complaints above, it was strangely regretful to put down to have to go to work... but um, you know it was WORK I was off to...

I have read all of the DH books and while this wasn't my favorite it certainly wasn't a disappointment to me. As a Seattle native and resident, however, there were a few things that didn't fly with me about the setting (ex: the reference to Pike Place as "pike's market" It isn't Pike's market. It is called Pike Place because of the address on Pike Street) but most of it was accurate. Actually it might have been a five-star if the location hadn't distracted me.

And while I hope Nick gets out of the trouble he is in, I also liked the twist to the on-going storyline of the series.

I think this had to be the most interesting of the stories, and definitly had the strongest plot. Based more around the lives of the characters, advancement of the plot line, and explaining more about those like Acheron and Nick, this was more than just a love story. The ending actually left me wide eyed and wanting more.

Others may say different, but when it comes to excitement and advancement of each character in a realistic fashion, this book has proven to be the best of the series! It actually laid out Acheron and Nick with a more human natured perspective, and finally, FINALLY showed a darker side of Acheron that the reader has never before encountered. THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ANY FAN OF THE SERIES!

I loved it...now she just needs to hurry with the next!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved both the hero and Heroine of this story. I loved visiting with old characters as well and see how they are doing. I read this book on my vacation so that I can concentrate on the book. Loved it.

Thank you,

P.S. Ms Feehan, when are you going to write Ash's story, I really don't think I want to wait years for it? He is just

very important to the series.....

I wasnt going to buy this book, but I got it 50 percent off... I still feel ripped off. I have been a huge fan of this author, but this series is limping to the finish line, rather than sprinting.

I have felt this way recently about several of the series that I have been reading and am about done... Sherrilyn, let me know when you write the ending to this series, I might check it out to see how it turns out, but I am bored, bored, bored.

The fake empathy from the heroine almost had me gagging at times... "what, you poor man, you lost your mom? I know how you feel, I lost mine too." "What, you bitter about your job? I know how you feel, I lost my job too."

Artemis brought into being the Dark Hunters to keep the Daimons under control but yet seems to block any effort by Ash to do his job. Frankly all the "Gods" behave more like spoiled brats than "Gods"... Eh... if you can turn off your brain and read, this book will be for you, but if you like a book to make sense its probably not...

Even though I liked Ravyne and Susan,I wasn't impressed with Nick or Ash's story. Nick is really unreasonally and annoying in his angst against Ash and I am really getting tired of Ash and Artemis relationship. It is thesame old thing and am tired of reading about it. He doesn't seem as strong and invincible as Savitar, whom I enjoy his character. I was expecting to learn more about Ash, but I only learned what we already know: his real appearance. I hate his lack of backbone while dealing with Artemis and I do not enjoy the fact that with all his power, he never appears when he can help. He always knows about what is happening, but he always complain about this bargain or that bargain with Arti. He always says he can't interfere with the natural flow of things, but he always does when he finally does show.

Like many of the other people that already wrote a review for this book, I too feel that this book just didn't measure up to the others. I stopped several times and said to myself, "Come ON ALREADY!!" One of my problems is the fact that there wasn't any tension really between Ravyn and Sue (It all happened VERY easily for them) BUT my biggest problem was the whole," Who is the one in the police department that is helping them." Okay, didn't Leo give Sue a folder that said it was the police chief. Well good grief, why did it take seeing a picture of them at the party when she was going through Jimmy's computer much later. I already knew it was the police chief and they should have too!!!

I love Kenyon's writing and the Dark Hunter series, especially. That's why this book is so disappointing; the story is so convoluted with so many things going on at the same time that I was losing interest trying to keep up.

First we have Susan who is sarcastic to the point of real annoyance. Second, Ravyn who has real Alpha possibilities never seems to fully develop. And the romance between them was totally unbelievable, could I believe there was lust between, yeah; but LOVE, not at all. It was 100 pages before each thought the other was "hot"!

This book was a bloop on the Dark Hunter screen. I can't recommend it except to the die hard Dark Hunter fan that needs to be up to date for the next Dark Hunter book coming out.

I definitely reccomend this book to romance and paramormal readers everywhere. If this is the first book of Kenyon's that you have read, I strongly suggest to read the others in the series, you don't have to, but you will probably understand more of the characters. The book is hot!! Kenyon combines steamy love scenes with quarky one-liners that will have you rolling off your bed in laughter. But it now!!

I was anticipating this book and was not disappointed. Kenyon once again takes me back into her Dark/Were Hunter world and totally leaves me hungering for more. For those of you unsure or unaware, this is book number nine in the dark hunter/Were hunter series. I must stress that in order to understand the motivation and character development you must have read at least some of the series. I hate picking up a book and finding out that another story preceded the one i was reading.

I have read some of the other reviews and must say that i am disappointed in reviewers who claim to dislike the book because Ravyn was not the same "type" of hero from the past hunter books. Now if all her hero's were the same with the same type of conflict over and over, then what is the purpose of having a series based on different characters and experiences. Each of her characters is written with a purpose and their characteristics should not be the same. Thank God Sherri is writing these books and not our reviewers! Of course we are all looking for the same outcome but the action should not be cookie cutter romance.

Of course i too am looking forward to Acheron's story. If you have been following the series, then you know that no one will probably measure up to our Atlanteon. But i honestly prefer to wait for a story that has generated so much euphoria and anticipation with an actual back story then for sherri to throw together a story just to appease readers that are to impatient to wait. Ravyn and Susan's story does just this. Ravyn Pontis is sensitive and loving and trusting. This is what got him in trouble in the first place, yet this is also what saves him. Susan is a strong heroine...trust me a weak one would never appease our hunters. She is smart sassy, smart mouthed, exactly what Ravyn needs. There are revelations in this book that will have you aching for the next one...and if you are a true and loyal fan, you will be waiting to purchase the next installment whether in hard cover or paperback. My RBL sisters and I certainly will be waiting with baited breath and will certainly be in line to pick up the next hunters in line. Nally "RBL"

I do not agree with some of the reviews. At the end of the day the author has created this world so if she decides to create a different rule for different characters, that is her perogative. I thought the fact that Nick now had some major problems quite understandable seeing as what happened in the previous books. He would blame Ash and without giving too much away, I think he attitude is understandable although you want to give him a smack for being so dense as not to see what this does to his former friend. I thought it a rather delightful twist bit like Angel going bad in Buffy. Do hope that it is not a permanent thing but lets be honest it is a wonderful story of escapism and long may Mrs Kenyon write about this world.

While I agree with some of the other reviews, susan was not an enjoyable characture. Raven was fine, in a typical dark hunter way.

I like it that not all dark-hunters have the level of angst that Zarek did it is what makes him and that book so special. I love the direction she is going with Ash, I wish she just had Ash and simi books :). I can't wait to see what developes with Nick, Stryker, and Ash ( Artimis as well). way to go, keep it coming!!!

disclaimer: i dont buy romance novels. i have read all of anne rice's books though and bought this in amsterdam airport with 6 hours to spare. after the first chapter, i continued reading because it was so bad i thought it must have been some kind of a gag. after the second chapter i was just caught like a deer in headlights until making it to the end where i left it on the bookshelf of an Italian beach resort in Zanzibar. it's the worst novel i can remember reading. i read at least a book a week and buy lots of random authors to see whats out there and i've never been this disappointed. if this is all it takes to be a novelist im definitely giving it a shot.

Can't miss with Sherrilyn Kenyon, she's the best! She always brings humor & lots of action into her books. Were-hunters are my fav, mostly because of the mating thing. I like the fact they're bound to their mates. Excellent book, highly recommend.

Because the one in this book just ain't him! The fact that I loved the earlier DH book has more than likely influenced the fact that I have struggled with reading this book. I was very happy to get my copy of the DSotM but after a couple of hours put it down and didn't bother to pick it up for several days.....not something that usually happens with the earlier DH books - even after multiple readings.

There were too many characters just popping in for a chapter and Nick seems to have had a personality transplant...where was the guilt he felt over betraying Ash with Simi????? This is NOT the same Nick we last saw in Unleash the Night

Also what was with the whole Nick met Kyrian in the underworld......in Seize the Night we are told the only reason that Ash could bring Amanda and Kryian back to life was that their spirits wouldn't leave their daughter.

Please please bring back the characters that you made soooo real for us Ms Kenyon

After reading Night Pleasures, this book Dark Side of the Moon was a big dissapointment. Sherrilyn Kenyon was trying to go in too many directions, and create all these other characters I did not care to know about. She lost her focal point. It became too much of a boring soap opera. Save your money.

This series is starting to get on my nerves. The heroes are hunky, but I am really tired of Ash in a never ending funk. Could we get a little happiness for him with a wrap up story, and start a new line of thought!

This didn't disappoint. I love the Dark-Hunter series, and I think it's cool that Sherrilyn Kenyon isn't afraid to LET HER CHARACTERS GROW AND CHANGE. It's obvious some people don't like how Acheron and Nick have evolved, but if people don't change, they get stagnate.

I had lots of unanswered questions at the end, but I think that's the way it's supposed to be. If all your questions are answered, and if characters don't change, what's the point? Things are changing in the Dark Hunter world, and that's what keeps it alive to us readers.

If you're not afraid of change, go read this book. It's a great addition to the series! :-)

I totally disagree with the last couple of reviewers. This latest offering by Sherrilyn Kenyon knocked my socks off! It had everything I wanted in a book--romance, action, adventure, intrigue, good guys and bad guys.

As for Susan being too sarcastic? I found it to be almost endearing, it was just her way to protect herself after all she'd been through. I myself, think she suited Rayvn Kontis perfectly and I enjoyed reading the dynamics of their relationship and how their love story enfolded.

DSOTM was the best kind of rollercoaster ride and I didn't want it to end. As with every Sherrilyn Kenyon novel I've read, it was a very well-written, character driven book. I thought with all we learned and the new plot twists and cliffhangers for the next books in the DH series, it most deserved being the first of the Dark-Hunter series to be in Hardback.

Buy this book, you won't regret it.

Kenyon started out the series by creating a new and exciting world, with fun characters and consistently thought-out plots that kept to the universe she created. However, as the franchise ages, there is a taste of desperation to continue to go a step further, when some of the main characters -- like Acheron -- really can't be taken anywhere without become parodies of themselves. In this book, Kenyon substitutes gore and inexpicable sex for plot development. The series should probably just be allowed to remain in the imaginations of the readers who really liked the first books, instead of continuing with this one that resembles frat party meets Freddy Krueger meets Debbie Does Dallas, er Seattle. Kenyon's writing has always been thin -- a good game is to count the number of times people "RUSH" somewhere. The only thing not predictable from the first page was is how much more violence there would be. And at hardcover prices, too!

OK, I'm hoping this is just a hiccup in the series. I began reading the DH series a couple years ago and started with NIGHT PLEASURES. I loved it!! In fact, I ran out and bought the rest of the series (through Night Play) and then waited impatiently for the next releases. This book just left me cold.

I hated how Ash has become such a [...] And Nick's bitterness seems a bit extreme. Granted he was close to his mother and will always mourn her loss. But, blaming a hurricane on Ash???? Shouldn't Nick be happy he is 'alive'...I mean he could be completely dead.

Now for the hero and heroine of the story. Ravyn was an OK character, but Susan was annoying. I didn't take to their relationship at all. It just wasn't the TrueLove-SoulMate kind of love we've seen in the past books. And the allergy thing...COME ON!!! How stupid is that!?

I understand that a book series would leave 'openings' in each book for the next book, but this book left crater-sized holes. I was very disappointed in this book and thankful that I just borrowed it from the library. Hopefully, the next book will be better.

The book was ok but I was very glad that I read it through the library instead of buying it. I would have been very bitter if I had spent money on it. The few glimpses of Ash and Nick tie up a few things that I was wondering, it started a whole new thought process toward others, but Ravyn and his girl could have been avoided in the series. They were merely the ship that carried a piece of the REAL story that is being given bit by SLOW and SLOWER bit. (And if you're a fan of the series, you know the overall REAL story going on here. It's taking too long to develop.)

I have loved Sherrilyn Kenyon since her very first story in this series. (Julian: Fantasy Lover) I hated paranormal romance and she made me a believer. When I read Kyrian's book...I was completely enthralled. I read Talon's, then Zarek's and I was even more in love. To this day I don't get how Wolf's book was published but in the scheme of a series, there always has to be "building books" that move things on to the next level. Even the Harry Potter series has had two "building books" that help the reader move on to the action of what is coming. Valerius' story was magnificent and it kept me reading even when Vane's story just didn't quite live up to expectations. She was on a hot streak and the series was going strong.

BUT...

Even while I was reading and loving the series, something started becoming very evident. Sherrilyn Kenyon loves this series so much that she's going to run it into the ground before she's done. She doesn't want to let it go. With Vane and Wren's book it is evident. With Alexion's it's very VERY evident. Mrs. Kenyon, we as readers don't need every character you've ever mentioned to have a story about them. I meet hundreds of people a day walking down the street, going to the 7-11, or just stopping for gas. Do I need to know all of those people's life stories in order for my life to make sense? No. I don't. I don't need every single Dark Hunter/Wolf Hunter/Dream Hunter/Sister/Dog Sitter/Best Friend's cousin's first boyfriend's tale or life history for me to enjoy a series or get a story out.

I've been a viewer of her website for a while now, and every time I go there I shake my head at what she has "planned" for this series. She has planned too much. She says that there's a story for almost every character. A BOOK for almost every character. While I love the series, while a lot of readers love the series, I don't think they want to read every single story of every single person. It's just too much. It's already too much.

Focusing on the New Orleans crew and the squires should have been enough. They are the main focus of interest and they are the ones that people care about. They are what started the series. Now people are starting to wonder if the series is being stretched for the all mighty dollar. The more books that come out, the more we stretch for that all important Ash book, the more we tease and tempt...the more money that is made.

From the reviews it looks like readers are getting tired of it. They look to be searching for what made them fall for the series to begin with. They are searching for ends to be tied and for the characters they love to come together so that this series can complete with some satisfaction. All series must end and all series must complete. This one will be no different.

What will be different is who started with the series...and who had the patience to hang around until the end.

I might not be. And that is very very sad.

Let's be realistic - all writers write bad or so-so books once in a while. They can't have fantastic books every time. But this one wasn't so bad. I enjoyed the heroine very much. I thought she was funny and the humor was good. The hero? well he was ok, but not one of my favorites. I feel that this book was starting the series into a darker phase. I'm glad I read it, but also glad I rented it from my local used bookstore instead of buying it. But, one thing I did miss was Simi. She absolutely fascinates me, though I could do without the barbecue comments every time she's mentioned. I hope she's in the next one, lol.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is an amazing world-builder. Don't believe me? Read the previous reviews, including the ones with a negative slant. People feel so strongly, because they have actually come to care for the characters and even places that Ms. Kenyon has created. The characters do not always do what we would expect or hope of them, and that is what keeps this reader coming back for more.

DSOTM has the requisite humor, action, suspense, twists, turns, love, heartache, and cliff-hangers as expected of the Hunter Legends novels. Two years have transpired since the events of Seize the Night took place when we meet Ravyn Kontis a Were-Hunter turned Dark-Hunter and his estranged family. To make his life more complicated and more interesting at the same time, his life is entwined with that of reporter Susan Michaels, a civilian. Ravyn and Susan have great chemistry. Both have been badly burned by people that they trusted before. They never fail to show wit and composure even when the bad guys are knocking. Oh, how I love a heroine that can hold her own!

Returning familiar faces include Stryker, Acheron, Savitar, Artemis, Nick, and Otto. Plus, a host of new characters are introduced, some with very intriguing dilemmas indeed. Well worth the hardcover price! I, for one, cannot wait for the next installment.

Keep in mind that if you are new to the series, that this is book #9.

Like the other reviewers, I must say this one wasn't up to par. I guess all vampire romance series go downhill eventually, (Feehan, Hamilton, are your ears burning?) but this series really did have a lot going for it. Susan and Ravyn were nice characters, but they were just a regurgitation of most of her previous couples. The problem is that she's trying to make the plot too complicated, while ignoring the relationship between the main characters. I liked the series best when it was just a few Dark Hunters up against a few Daimons, back when no one knew what Ash was, there weren't 157 kinds of Were Hunters, and Nick was really alive. If I wanted to memorize an encyclopedia of made-up rules, exceptions, and minor characters, I'd read Tolkien. I just wish Kenyon would resolve issues with previous characters before introducing half a dozen new ones.

Investigative Reporter Susan Michaels wants nothing more than to resurrect her professional reputation after a major scandal destroyed it two years ago. She is currently stuck writing cheesy articles for a tabloid about alien babies and the like. Then she gets a lead that could revamp her dead career. Her sleuthing puts her in an underground world populated by different types of vampires and shape-shifters. This gives her two choices, become a "squire" and help or die immediately for security reasons. Duh! Do I need to tell you her choice? So the cat she is stuck with, and allergic to, changes into a good looking Dark-Hunter man. Susan finds him extremely irritating, but likeable. Too likeable...

Ravyn Kontis is one of the shape-shifting immortals/guardians who are sworn to protect humankind. He is captured while in cat form by a minion of the Daimon King. Lucky for him, Susan "adopts" him while following her lead. Rave is thankful, but Susan knows too much. Now they are thrown together as partners. Things get even worse now because it becomes apparent that the Daimons have declared war on the Dark-Hunters and have some of the police department on their side. Susan and Ravyn find themselves on run for two murders that they did not commit. And all that is only the beginning of their first full day together!

***** Author Sherrilyn Kenyon has created an extremely realistic, but hidden, world that will grab its readers and hold onto them tighter than cement! You do not have to read the previous novels to understand everything going on. I am proof, since this is my first experience with the underground world. Once I began this story I could see why the author is so famous and has her own cult following. Outstanding! *****

I really liked this book for the simple fact that she seems to be pulling together all the other books. Her other books in the series seem to be separate entities about an individual character and that character finding his or her lover for eternity. This one does the same thing, but more of the book is about what has been going on in books past. This book didn't really center on the romance. I liked that she is moving past that and actually creating a flowing series instead of brief mentions of other characters as she has in books past.

I gave this book four stars cause I really didn't like the characterization of Nick. I felt that he was a bit out of character. I mean...you would expect him to be a bit bitter, but c'mon....this was overkill.

This book was such a disappointment. I have waited eagerly for each new Dark Hunter novel, but the last few haven't been that great, and this one was just painful to get through. Right before I got this book I re-read Fantasy Lover, the first book in this series, and it's hard to believe that the books were written by the same author. Dark Side of the Moon has none of the plot and character development that is found in Fantasy Lover. There is absolutely no chemistry between the main characters, and their relationship seemed rather forced. I don't know if the author is trying to write books for too many different series (at least three that I know of), but I really wish her new novels had the same flavor as her earlier ones.

I, like everyone else, anxiously awaited this book. It was an ok read, but not up to the usual Dark Hunter expectations. Since it was in Seattle, it was lacking the familiarity, continuity and support of the rest of the Dark Hunter "family", which I think is so important in this series. And Ash had such a brief appearance, did nothing, and left, it left you wondering why he was even mentioned in this book. And I got kind of sick of Nick's attitude and whining all the time. I think she spent too much time on that. I don't think the characters were as fully developed as is usually the case, and, I agree, not much "on the edge of your seat" in this book. Too bad.

How disappointing!! I always look so forward to new Dark Hunter novels but the last couple of been such let downs. I don't know if the publisher is rushing the author but she needs to go back to her old style and, if that means more time between books, so be it.

This one is another were-cat story. The female character has strength and humour, though her sarcasm can be nasty at times, especially when directed at the man she supposedly cares for. The male lead is delectable, as always. The story itself is okay, but not great. It almost feels as if Kenyon is trying to write a police mystery here, but without much commitment and the result is rather wishy-washy.

It is very obvious that the last portion of the book was written in a big rush. Even the final (and significant) love scene is rushed through with only sketchy detail. And though we should subsequently see the bonding scene, Kenyon had no time to write it up so it was left out entirely and we are left to infer it. Things that the main characters should have said to one another in the end are also left out completely and the story ends abruptly in a quick, emotionless way that fails to satisfy. Other aspects of the story, such as complex and long-simmering family relationship issues, are "wrapped up" in a few short lines. A side-story relationship (Cael and Amaranda) is left hanging and we have no idea what will happen to them. These storylines in the novel started out interesting and meaty but Kenyon just left them hanging in a way that feels unfinished and unsatisfying. Clearly Kenyon was writing to a deadline and the last part of the book suffers tremendously from this haste. Shame, because that's where the satisfaction and payoff for the reader lie. She should have taken another few months and finished it properly.

Nick features in this book. [Don't worry, I promise I will not give anything away here.] His constant, self-indulgent, childish rants cause us to lose all sympathy for him. The decision and action he takes at the end is so selfish, stupid and mean-spirited that frankly we no longer care about him at all.

I missed the story being based in New Orleans. New characters and a new santuary will keep you on your toes. Ash and Artie are up to the same 'ol same 'ol. Nick makes an apperence and boy has he gotten nasty, what has he gotten himself into now. There's going to be a lot of new twists and turns in the upcoming novel(s).

Ravyn and Susan are the main romace story. I thought Susan was a little too 'smart mouthed'. Ravyn's story was a bit like Wren's in "Unleash the Night". Still steamy and I could not put it down for two days.

"It's just allright for me." It was ok to burn some time, but I didn't really care about anyone in the book or anything that happened. There was no emotional attachment as in previous releases. I finished it swiftly and my first thought was..."that was kinda lame." This is the first were-hunter book I could care less about, and I don't think it was worthy of her first hardback release. I could not get into this book. I am very disappointed in this story. Can we say boring. The main characters were boring. The Ash/Nick storyline sucked. This was a weak book to start off in hardcover. I was a little dissapointed. A lot of the other stories made my heart ache. This one however did not.

It was a little harder for me to jump into this book as well because they set it in Seattle, and all the other characters were interconnected in New Orleans.

Im hoping that Kenyon develops the other stories betterthan this book. Especially since she says that she has a lot more ideas and a lot more books to go.

I read Fantasy Lover "back in the day" when it was first released. Since then I have eagerly awaited each DH book by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I have my personal favorites....but Dark Side of the Moon is not one of them. Unfortunately I found myself pausing while reading the book to question:

1)personal hygiene
2)dialog (yep, I agree Susan was unlikable and sarcastic)
3)where is the love story??? where is the romance???

I didn't care about the main characters, Susan especially didn't gel for me (the reporter/driver extraordinaire/sword expert/black belt)and the pace of the book felt frantic. For die-hard SK fans, most readers will be satisfied, for those readers new to the series, DSM will not do justice to the Dark Hunter World.

I think this was my most favorite one of the bunch, but maybe because I can get the jokes. Not everyone can handle, dry humor. I thought it was hilarious. I laughed outloud through most of it.

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was because I didn't like the end. It was just too easy.

SHE OPENS THE DOOR TO THE WORLD OF THE SQUIRES, THE HELPFUL SERVANTS OF THE DH., AND ALLOWS US TO JOURNEY INTO THIS FACSINATING WORLD SHE HAS CREATED.

AND ONCE AGAIN SHE HAS LEFT US WITH A TWIST IN THE END THAT WILL KEEP ME COMING BACK FOR MORE.

The book started off with very little chemistry between the two main characters, but they meshed well after Ravyn was shot. The plot moved along quickly enough to be interesting, although there weren't too many surprises. My biggest disappointment was that Nick, who was previously one of my favorite characters in the series, becomes bitter and annoying in this book. Other than that, it's a pretty fun read.

I love this entire series. I enjoy the fact that I can still remember individual characters' power, species and significance to the story at hand. I'm not sure I was reading the same book as the folks who hated this installment of the Dark-Hunter series. I loved it as I do all of Ms. Kenyon's stories. There were some typos, but that's hardly the author's fault. Also there are things that some of the characters do that surprise or disappoint me, but hey, that's life, and it has me wondering what will happen in the books to come. It's the suspense that's killing me now, not the writing of the book.

I don't agree with those who complained about this book - I thought it was an excellent "next installment" in the Dark Hunter series. Excellent, excellent - I can't wait for the next installment!!!!!!!

I was pretty upset about this book. I am a huge Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor fan and I love the DH series (hence the 1 star) but this book was a huge let down for me.

There were a couple of things that I had a HUGE problem with believing. First, I must have missed something because I do not remember Nick being Impervious to Ash's mind control. I was really uncomfortable with how the whole Nick & Ash relationship was portrayed in this book. Second, I just could not buy the humans & Daimons working together thing. I know that there are some stupid humans out there but I would like to think that we are a bit smarter than to ally with someone who could wipe out our entire neighborhood in an hour if we pissed him off. Third, Rayvn's character was not fully developed before he moved forward into a relationship with Susan (the most annoyingly sarcastic woman ever!). The love story here is hard to believe and I have a real problem with Rayvn remaining a DH as it is stressed throughout the DH series that Dark Hunters cannot have long term relationships. Lastly, WHAT DID YOU DO TO ASH???? Ash's development in DSofM was completely unbelievable to me; unless of course he is Daimon-possessed in this book and we don't find out until the next book in the series. That must be it because the Ash in this book is very different from the one portrayed in previous DH series books.

When I first started reading this series I was captivated by the range & depth of feeling the characters had. I hurt, cried and celebrated along with them because Kenyon's writing brought them to life for me. The last couple of books have lacked the character and story development I had come to expect from the DH series. For example, I could easily see what made Kyrian become a DH, I felt his gut wrenching anguish with him, experienced his absolute need for vengeance right along with him; by the time I finished his and Amanda's story I was breathless, I felt like I had been a character in the book and had been right beside them throughout. The last couple of DH stories have left me cold. The character development, story development, and eloquent creative writing that I have come to look forward to from this author have been missing and instead I am reading about new characters that are shallow and seem to be introduced for the sole purpose of adding a new angle to the series, bizarre personality changes to old, well-developed characters that are left unexplained in writing but seem to be added for the sole purpose of adding a new angle to the series, heroes/heroines that are starting to become very similar to each other i.e., very sarcastic, shallow, quick-witted to the point of annoying and all with the ability to think about sex pretty much in any situation and with people they just met.

Please, please, please Ms. Kenyon: I do not mind waiting a whole year for the next book if it means you will take the necessary time to develop the story and write the DH books like you used to. If I put any pressure on you in the past to get a DH book out quickly, please forgive me and know that I will not do it again. I really need a DH story I can escape into so I promise to wait patiently.

Sue and rayven are two of the most differernt hero and heroin of Mrs.Kennon's Dark-Hunter series. the man is a jaguar and the lady is allergic to the cat-form of Rayven. Nick is back as a new dark hunter and Ash is still pissed at him after what happened in last book "Sieze the Night".

This book was far better than Kenyon "Unleash the night". The plot was detailed with all the best of the Dark Hunter's need to protect the humans and win the girl. The epilogue hints at an even better sequel to this Dark Hunter series.

I don't agree with those who complained about this book - I thought it was an excellent "next installment" in the Dark Hunter series. Yes, Nick whined; Yes, Ash didn't have a major role; but, more importantly, it moved the overall saga along in a very satisfying way.

Lame plot, lame characters, lame location, lame every thing. Except, I did like Sue and all her sarcasm and her protectiveness of her beta kitty. Sherrilyn, where are my uber alpha Dark Hunters? You know the Talon, Zarek, Kyrian like ones? The ones who made me drool rather than this current breed that make me wanna heave.

Please return them.

Like the previous reviewer, I was pretty upset about this book. I too am a very big fan of the DH series and have been reading religiously for over three years now, but this is definitely the worst of the series.

Susan is just way too sarcastic. Annoyingly so. In fact, I think that most of the heroines in the series are starting to become very similar to each other. Quick-witted, very sarcastic, and with the ability to look at a strange man (in an otherwise very tense situation) and think about sex. Seriously, although I love the big men/sexy vibes, I'm starting to get bothered by the seemingly unrealistic atmosphere that is being dead ending at Repetitionville.

Something that this book lacked was the true, heart-clenching angst. IE Kyrian or Zarek angst. I feel that these last few books, especially DSofM, really fell short in that department. That is one of the things that first had me hooked in this series.

Ash's developement has also made me flinch. What happened to the arrogant, cocky Ash we were first introduced to? His character has definitely changed, and it seems to me that the original Ash is different from the Ash we now come across in DSofM.

I know that the AG said that Ravyn was itching for his story to be told, but it appears with her writing that it was quickly put together. It lacks the heart that made me fall in love with the first few books. Storylines appear to be repetitive and unoriginal. I'm not sure if it's her love of the series that is making her drag on stories or the need to please her readers, but that's what these last stories seem to be doing: dragging on. Maybe it's both. But I would rather see her write one great book like the beginning ones than see five let downs like this one.

I gave one star because even though I was very disappointed with this one, my love for the series is deep. The second star goes to the little things hidden inside. The bringing back of other characters from previous stories is always a plus, especially in this series.

I hope that the future books will have that missing heart that the originals had. I would also wait for the softcover book instead of paying the $11-$20 for the hardcover. There really isn't a need to run off and buy this one. And you probably won't be able to read it in one sitting. I had to force myself to read through a lot of the pages and found myself skipping over a few paragraphs. The characters, especially the constant sarcasm, have ruined a lot of the story that could have otherwise been better.
