I loved this book. Poor Nick is constantly fighting for his life while trying to protect his mom and friends. He is still trying to control his powers and fears them taking over for him. He meets new friends and one helps him to control the darkness in him a little bit better. I can not wait for the next book. Erin

Nick is more than your average teenager. He has the ability to end the world and bring about the apocolypse. Too bad that it seems as if someone else wants to end the world.
I love Nick's side series to the Dark-Hunter Series. They blend and come apart. There are some overlaps but so much is different. It's like two parallel universes.
Nick must learn how to control his anger, temper and hatred...but he's also learing how to love. As he shows kindess, we find more and more people come to his side. Jealousy becomes the driving focus as the world is torn out from under him. Ironically, we all need a little less drama in our life.
We learn more about Nick's parentage but most importantly, we see him begin to gather his own army...people who love him and would stand by him. People who have been hurt in their own way.
I swear I must study past history and civilizations when I read a Kenyon book since there are so many Gods and Demons that I know nothing of.

Worth the wait Nick is hawt. Love the love. The friendship, the come robbery, and the sarcasm. fast paced kick butt action was delicious. I could have done without some of the verbose conversations in makes own mind.

I waited a whole year for this? I'm thinking that she is dragging out this story line way to much for only releasing one book a year. The first several chapters were reintroducing the main characters and rehashing the last book. That was a waste of time. This is the 6th book, if u don't know the main characters then you need to start on book 1. Book 5 I was disappointed in as well. It was a lousy story line that got dragged out for over 300 pages as well. Probable be the last time I look forward to the next release date in a YEAR!

Been a big fan of this series, however I thoroughly found this book to be lacking. It was way too short. The author kept throwing mythological references at a super fast pace and I thought it was building to something major. However it kind of fizzled out in the end. A couple good twists, but overall the book felt rushed. Would have been happier had the book took another 6 months to a year to come out for a more developed read. As it stands this book should be 1/4 to 1/2 the listed price. Still looking forward to next book but hopefully it will be a longer more developed story.

I'm very disappointed in this book by Sherrilyn Kenyon. She wrote it like a short story and it lacked the usual excitement that her other books have. I hope she gets back to writing the way she used to because the next CON book needs to be kicked up several notches.

Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon was one of my prize discoveries last year, and while every consecutive book in the series has been better than the last, Kenyon has really stepped up her game with Instinct. It turned out to be one of the best YA books I have read in a long time, placing itself up there with the likes of Riordan’s Percy Jackson, or Sanderson’s Reckoners series.
In the last year Nick Gautier has had to go through more than anyone has had to deal with. He’s fought of zombified high school football players, learned out to look deep into his future, and had to fight off hordes of ghosts and undead. That’s not to mention the demons and dark gods he has had to fight off or make deals with in the hopes of at least making it through high school. The only reason Nick Gautier has survived this long is because of the help his friends and allies have provided, and the protection of his Dark Hunter boss Kyrian. In Instinct Nick must stand on his own to save save the life of not only himself, but those of his friends and everyone else he holds dear.
Instinct was definitely the best book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Chronicles of Nick so far. It has everything in it that I love about urban fantasy and YA in general. First and foremost it has a great story, the events of the last five books in the series have been building up to something big and I think Instinct is the beginning of the next major story arc. There is a great cast of characters and they make me love them enough I want to go out and start reading the Dark Hunter series just to read about them in their adult life.
The only complaint I have about the book–or any other book in the series really, is that it is way too short and ends on a huge cliff hanger. Just when I am really getting into the book or I am coming to some huge revelation about Nick or his world the book ends. Every damn time. Then I find myself waiting a full year just to find out what happens next, only to find myself left hanging at the end of another book.
The anticipation and the waiting is well worth it though, Kenyon hasn’t disappointed me with a book yet.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

Nick is back in his own world, body and happy about it. Though he should really learn not to celebrate too early. With a destiny like his, you know it won’t stay quiet for long. The truth about his existence is out there, and now the truly bad people/gods/creatures are after him. Some want to kill him, while others want to enslave him. While with each book he picks up new strays as friends, overall his allies are still limited and now it seems that someone close to him shouldn't be trusted.
On his first day back it doesn't take ’till lunch for things to go to hell, literally. Nick thought he had stopped the apocalypse, but all signs are showing otherwise. Evil is once again after him and now they've managed to hit closer to home than ever. Nick is scared for what his future holds, using his endless supply of sarcasm to convince people otherwise.
I’m actually surprised how scared he is. His sarcasm isn't just throwing off his friends, but me the reader as well. It always seemed more about action and using humor to keep the stories light. The apocalypse and end of the world is almost an abstract concept. Still Nick really feels the danger of what giving in to the Malachai means. The weight of the world is on his shoulder, while most of that world wants him dead.
Yes, the humor certainly plays a part in not giving in to the despair of it all, but the situation has become more serious than ever. This was a bit of an eye opener for me. I do believe in the goodness of Nick, that he will manage not to go all evil on the world. The struggle though will become harder and harder. Koda, I feel will play a very important part in this. As long as she is fine, Nick will be fine. Based on the stories of his friends, it’s clear that love was their downfall. These are the type of guys that will do anything to keep their loved one save, take that away from them and they will go berserk. Which in Nick case literally means he will be ending the world.
Instinct is another great book in this series. It’s fast paced, filled with action and excellent humor. Each book feels like an episode of TV-show. I wished they would be published faster, as I go through them so quickly. In total at the moment there will be fifteen books, with one being released every year. I’m curious how it is all going to play out, as Nick’s actions here will have an influence on the Dark-Hunterverse and how it will all connect. I do know I will keep reading every book. I simply love this guy and his journey fascinates/entertains me highly.

3.25 stars.
I wanted to love this because it's Sherrilyn Kenyon and I love her and the worlds she makes but I didn't love this one.
Mostly a 'meh' feeling after finishing it.
What I liked/loved (not a lot unfortunately); the last 70 or so pages were great. Really enjoyed Nick going through that trial/challenge. The high school section in the beginning was good. Liked seeing some of the Were's and Squires while they were at high school. And I liked what Nick learned/figured out near/at the end.
On to the not so good. As many have stated, I also think this would have been better trimmed down. Also who was double crossing Nick was very easy to figure out. I figured out who it was during the betrayer's second scene. It was too fishy, while trying not to be fishy, which only made it glaringly obvious to me.
Not much happened in this installment. Not as action packed and the characters were mostly sitting around waiting for evil to knock or kidnap someone.
And the major issue for me, it's also admittedly a major issue for me in the Dark-Hunter series as well. All the characters names, backstory, future story, alternate timeline story, like I'm supposed to remember every single one of these characters and what happened/happens to them, who they're connected to, etc, etc, etc. It hurts my head.
This book was decent but I've read a lot better by Kenyon.

Nick's in a great mood. There's no one out to kill him, no one is dying, and it seems like a perfect normal day where he can pose as a perfectly normal human having a perfectly normal life. For an hour maybe. That is, until an omen of death that only Nick can see goes flying through his school hallway. All of a sudden, Caleb falls ill, which is impossible for demons. Everything comes crashing down at once. Nick's mother disappears and he begins to realize that the people he held closest to him are lying to him almost constantly. He doesn't know who to trust or who will betray him. And with his new Malachai powers barely under control, will Nick be able to save everyone with his best friend out of commission and his slippery grip on sanity?
I didn't think this was a particularly spectacular book. I absolutely adore the Chronicles of Nick books, I think they're interesting and full of interesting lore, but this one didn't catch my attention as much. Best part of this book by far - Malachai Nick. The fact that he can lose control any second and completely destroy the world is awesome, but when he uses his power to save his mother and his friends, I love it. Nick almost dies about twice and it had me freaking out both times. The first time was a little sudden and was never really explained, but the second time...phew! Overall, though, I still think this is a great book, full of action and everything I love in a book, but not as outstanding as the others. Here's to hoping for more Malachai Nick!

Nick Gautier deals with zombies, demons, vampires, shifters, all sorts of creatures and people every day. Many of those are his friends and allies. Thanks to them, Nick has survived everything that has been thrown his way. Just as Nick begins to hope that his life is finally back to normal, everything goes to hell – literally.
Nick has accepted the demon that lives within him. Now he must learn to control it. This is not an easy task while trying to keep a low profile. The dark gods are still after Nick. Now that those dark gods know where to find Nick, they will stop at nothing to get him.
**** FOUR STARS! Author Sherrilyn Kenyon’s cast of characters are well developed and seem to become more real with each story. Nick’s character in particular is evolving, growing, and I can see glimpses into what Nick could one day become – and it is fabulous! Some secrets of the Primordial gods are revealed in this installment and readers will learn more about Kody, his mother. These characters are not the only interesting ones in the story either. (Not by a long shot.)
It does not matter if you are male or female. I feel that anyone from the ages of teen to adult would love this story. Heck, they would love the entire series. There is very little language, a lot of Nick’s trademark sarcasm, and an ample supply of action. The only real down side (of the entire series) is that each story seems to have cliff hanger endings. It is no wonder to me that this series (and the author’s “Dark-Hunter” series) are soon to be major motion pictures. Tales by Sherrilyn Kenyon are major awesomeness! ****

This was one warped ride through manipulation and lies for Nick. The baddies are as always trying to get the upper hand. This time they’ve called on the gods to pass judgement on Nick as the Malachi. If he doesn’t pass the test then another Malachi may take his place and who’s to say that this new Malachi won’t mean the end of the world. Better the demon within than the unknown. As tension mounts the gods bring their armies in to ride nasty on the city of New Orleans. Secrets are revealed that give a few real ah-ha moments. New and endearing allies are gained. Caleb and Momma Gautier sit this one out rather literally as they are both stricken down and in a coma. At the end I was left wondering if we have seen the last of an older Ambrose’s interference in Nick’s life. As Nick continues to gain confidence and experience dealing with what life dishes out, I am definitely looking forward to whatever adventures he takes me on next. I can’t recommend this series enough.
I listened to this one in audio format through Over Drive compliments of my local library. Holter Graham is a great voice actor. I really love listening to him tell Nick’s stories or for that matter any of the stories by Sherrilyn Kenyon. He is exceptionally talented at voice modulations so that you get the distinct feel for the different characters and I positively love his rendition of Simi. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to one of Sherrilyn’s stories in audio format then I would highly recommend you do so.

I love this series, but dang, it is really hard keeping it all straight. And honestly, I struggle with wrapping my head around the who is who, who is related or more powerful, who to trust or not trust as is the case in this one. I knew Livia was bad news and glad Nick figured it out, but nearly too late. The secret with Cherise wasn't too surprising given they way Nick's life has changed. The good news is he now has a couple more allies....hopefully. Kind of hard to know what is real or true when you're part demon and so are most of your friends. And those who aren't are Gods, children of Gods, or some kind of deity.

I'm really not sure if I like this series more or DH. I seriously like Nick's sarcasm and that even when he's scared witless he deals with it as he's momma showed him to, with acceptance and pride.
This series seriously keeps getting better and better and although if compared to the events of DH it will make no sense it is moving along nicely. Now that Nick found the Eye I hope he can get his life back on track and that Ambrose will be back to be himself. I mean that guy has some serious cojones, even when in the brink of going all Darth Vader and joining the dark forces he held on to sanity for a few more seconds to warn Nick of what he needed to do to save them all.
Also I can pass up the mention of Cherise, poor thing doesn't know that she is the primary target to a whole bunch of WTF, no-way-no-how, you-can't-be-serious, that-$*!*'s-not-real, and I can't believe Mennie had anything to do with anything about Nick's birth. But as always Mrs. Kenyon keeps stacking up the crap in Nick's life and making us love every second of it!

Once again, I had a fill of laughter from the King of Sarcasm, no other than Nick Gautier. He's so comical. I loved this side of Nick...vibrant, thoughtful, and easy going. Ms. Kenyon did a great job on twisting the story of Cherise. It was shocking. Not once that it had come across my mind. I enjoyed the story of this book for it depicted family traits and lessons that would make you a better person. Here were some excerpts that would give you an overview of Nick's craziness, and the entire book contained conversations just like the ones below. Sadly, I would have to wait for another year to read the next installment. Dang!
Excerpt 1:
A strange look descended over Xev's face. Nick turned toward Kody. "Is he having a vision or does he need to go potty?"
Excerpt 2:
Dread filled every pore of Nick's body. "What is that?" "Takiramon," Dagon and Xev said in unison. "and that would be what brand of Pokemon, Ash Ketchum? Should I fetch Pikachu's ball and have at it?"

Nick is growing up and finally has excepted his fate and learn some very valuable lessons. He learns one very hard one, from a traitor that will cost him a life. He is a stand up guy raised right and holds on to his morals even when it would be easier not to. Nick really changes in this chapter of his life. I can't wait for the next book.
His family and loved ones are threatened. Their lives depend on him passing a very dangerous and deal test. This test is of the mind body and heart and he must choose right of everything he has fought for will be lost. He is shocked when he learns some new knowledge that will help, kill and force him to face some ugly truths. He will bleed.

It is no wonder to me that this series (and the author’s “Dark-Hunter” series) are soon to be major motion pictures. Tales by Sherrilyn Kenyon are major awesomeness! ****

Nick is finally back in the correct realm and he is very happy when he wakes up in his own time. That happiness doesn’t last long though, as his enemies are amassing to take his powers for their own. Caleb is taken off the playing field and someone Nick should be able to trust starts trying to undermine those he is close to. Will Nick see who he should keep at his back before it’s to late? Will the words of one turn him against his friends? Another great read, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes them.

I really enjoy this book series! Nick has a complex life of battling zombies and demons, etc in his high school, and as the stories progress, it unravels that there is a much bigger plot line building. One that I can't wait to discover! This book delves much deeper into Nick's character and gives the reader a bigger insight into his life - all surrounded by an intriguing mystery. I would love to see these books turned into films, I think they'd work amazingly on the big screen. Can't wait for the next!

As I was driving home from work, I thought about the review I was going to write. At first, I was going to give this book 5 stars. It had me chomping at the bits for me. I couldn't wait for break to come so I could quickly shove food in and give the book my undivided attention. That's usually the trademark of a excellent book. But that makes for a boring review. So as I listen to Monster Magnet I was able to come up with 2 flaws, both of which are bad enough to drop this down to a 3 star rating. There will be spoilers ahead.
1st: One of the themes in this book is the power of love/friendship. As I stated in my review of Kenyon's Inferno, the power of love/friendship is pissing stupid. It's a cop out by untalented authors who write theirselves into cornors and can't get out. It's a disease in the anime community that needs to be purge with lava. If you don't agree then you're part of the problem. A person that commited murders, multilations, and other atrocities just doesn't get a happy ending because he fell in love. Nor does he get to act like a victim when justice finally catches up to him. But here it is, these ancient and powerful gods whining about not being loved by their parents and talking about how cruel life is when they're punished for all the killing and maiming they did, that for some reason, they think it's okay for them to walk free without punishment just because they fell in love.
2nd: Since Grim was introduced as a character, he's been talking about someone who would betray Nick. Logical choice would've been Kody (she loses faith in Nick and doesn't think he can fight against the nature of the Malachai) or Caleb (simply wanting to be free). Nope it was Livia. A character that was introduced in the last book and has had no revelance in the story. She showed up at the end of the last book and twice in this book. Why did she betray Nick? WHO KNOWS! Livia freely admits that her usefulness in combat was in the spreading of secrets and lies. So we, the readers, have no idea of how much of what she says is true. Did she really just want to be the Malachai? Had Nick had a bit of in-and-out with her would she had not betrayed him? Or did she really just feel like Nick was deliberately trying to make her feel like second-best at everything? Livia was a character we knew so little about that it honestly felt like a waste of a character, time, and a good story line in making her the Judas.
If you managed to read through all that, good job. Now, despite the flaws, this is a good book. I had a blast reading and I can't wait for the next in the series.

Absolutely love this series!
I miscalculated after the last book. This was the last one of the series in the library, but there are more in the series. I'm going to have to buy the rest.
Audiobook is just awesome!

Sherrilyn Kenyon never disappoints me. This latest Nick installment has him eagerly searching for a way to save his loved ones from death. Each book brings Nick closer to his identity as The Last Malachi. He's finally figuring out how to exist as Nick & The Malachi. I enjoy his witty comebacks and his love for his Momma. The moral of the story is that love will always win out.

Every time this world expands, I am bombarded with new characters and new backstories. And I love it. I love meeting new characters, so I really liked getting to know the new characters as well as understanding more about the older ones. Plus this book contained plenty of the Nick humor that drew me to his character way back when I first met him in the Dark Hunter series.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Being in the middle of the series I won't say any spoilers. There were a few twists that I didn't see coming, but that's not uncommon for this series. For anyone who stopped at Illusion, read Instinct, it's waaay less crazy that Illusion. I still love most of the characters and love that Simi showed in this one, she's one of my favorite characters.

Just when Nick is finally back in this Dennison and his own body he has to go and say something stupid, and all hell breaks loose. Needing to put his trust into people that he barley knows Nick is forced to finally accept what he is. Will he be able to hold his temper in check long enough to get through his test and save the people he loves or is he going to go full on Malachai.

This review is for the audiobook. This story wasn't quite as good as the previous titles in this series. So short, especially since it repeats the same things gone over in earlier books. Most disappointing was Holter's changing the characters' voices after being consistent across so many books in this and the night hunter series. Suddenly characters had english accents that didn't exist in earlier books.

Oh my freaking goodness! What a great ride! SK has been in my top two favorite authors for many years now, to say I love this series as much as her Dark Hunters is saying something! Just when I think I know a story, she completely surprises me. Nick goes through a journey that makes him come out stronger and better than ever!

Instinct by Sherrily Kenyon (series). Come on its SK, it was freaking fantastic for a YA. Comedy, action, adventure, possible end of the world, family, PNR and Cajun sass. Nick is the sh*t. 5 stars cher!!

Almost too much to keep track of in this book but I managed to stick with it to the end. I'm a fan of Nick from the jump. I look forward to him and his newly mastered powers in future Dark Hunter books.
