A fan since the beginning, Ms. Kenyon is still amazing me with her writing. Granted the books are all written in the same tempo and manner but thats why I love them! Mixed reviews had me a little leery at first although now I can't understand why. Excellent, waiting patiently for the next one.

OMG, this book was amazing! Picked it up and could not put it down. So many of my questions were answered in this book. I absolutely loved this story. Can't wait to read Ash's story now. The wait is going to painful, but if Ms. Kenyon keeps writing this way, it'll be well worth the wait!

I really did not want to buy this book until it was in paperback, but I just couldn't resist. After the last couple or so disappointing Dark-Hunter books, I was almost tempted to stop with them all together. I'm so glad I didn't give up! While I still feel like some things were way too sudden or convenient, I finally cared about the main characters again. It certainly didn't hurt that so many answers were revealed.

Sherilyn Kenyon has written another snoozer??? "I'm shocked, shocked" just like Claude Rains in Casablanca, when he was informed of gambling at Ricks.
I loved this series up to and including Seize The Night, which I believe is book 7. Since then, the books have a sameness about them, talk about deja vu all over again. In Devil May Cry, even the sex scenes seemed to be written in a monotone. You could skip them and not miss a thing, or read them and be put to sleep. I almost can't believe this is the same author who gave us Fantasy Lover. That book was so hot, I'm surprised the pages didn't smoke! Fantasy Lover also had another thing this one lacks, that is heart. You really cared about all of the characters, it's that way in all of SK's earlier novels, not so much in this one.
DMC does answer questions, huge ones, in fact. However, the revelations are made in such an off-hand way you might miss them. Not to spoil, there is one secret involving Ash that should have had him tearing Olympus apart, instead he kind of wussed out. This is not the same Ash I have come to know and love. Even The Simi seemed a little off.
Will I buy Ash's books? Most likely. Although, if the first one is about his human life, I just might skip it. An entire book on Ash's tortured mortality will be hard to take. I mean, it would have to top Zarek's misery, and that would be almost too much to bear. I have a feeling that I'll have to buy both, as I've heard they will be sold as a set.
Ms. Kenyon, you've got to stop jumping the same old shark, one of these days he's gonna bite you, in your sales, where it counts. Maybe you could cut out some of the book tours, stay home and write?
Please.

I really liked the book as it involved two very powerful people who helped each other rather than the strong one (male) constantly saving the human (female). It also had alot of interesting twists that brought Acheron and Artemis more personally into the story line. The humor was delightful. Plus it introduced a whole new set of bad nasties into the Dark Hunter game. One of Kenyon better books.

Same story, different names. Kenyon has gotten lazy and can't seem to come up with anything interesting, just silly plot lines with gaping holes. The Acheron/Artemis relationship is just ridiculous and even more so with the explanation in this book. I'll be looking for a new author and series to read.

I'm a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon. She's never disappointed me. This book is just as awesome as the others!
If you've never read her before, start at the beginning of the Dark Hunter Series! She's one of the most talented authors I've ever read.

This was probably her best book yet. If you don't read this book you will be lost for all time. I could not put it down. It was the greatest one she has ever written, even more I cannot wait until Ash's book comes out.

Sin was once a Sumerian god but is now like a Dark Hunter. Sin despises Artemis for what she took from him. His desire to see her destroyed consumes him.
The Greek goddess Artemis created the Dark Hunters for her own reasons, as well as to protect humans against the Daimons. Acheron Parthenopaeus is their guardian.
Artemis enlists the help of Katra Agrotera to retrieve the Tablet of Destiny from Sin. The tablet is an ancient book that can be used to strip a god of his or her powers and Artemis believes Sin will use it against her.
Sin doesn't just want his powers back; he needs them. Without them he cannot stop the Dimme and the Gallu demons from breaking free of the prison he put them in when he was still a god. The demons will destroy humankind if given the chance. Kat is torn between believing Artemis or Sin. Her compassion and her mistrust of Artemis' motives lead her to help Sin. In the process of recovering the tablet, Sin's and Kat's lives and hearts become entwined while the fate of the world lies in their hands.
Devil May Cry is another explosive novel in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Against all odds and maybe common sense, Sin and Kat come together. Watching their relationship unfold is beautiful; it's full of passion and powerful emotions. Devil May Cry has a few surprises in it and also offers a refresher course into the history of the Dark Hunters and those in their world. Witty banter and the appearances of gods, goddess, and other characters, bring amusement and depth to this intense and exciting story. I highly recommend reading the previous books in this series, but it is not necessary.

Man, I just love it when an author releases a book in a series that answers a lot of questions. Kenyon has given us answers in spades here: who is Katra, why is Ash tied to Artemis, what is Savitar, and more. Wonderful, action packed story with the steamy romance readers have come to expect from Kenyon. My only disappointment? Kenyon introduced a "Dream-Hunter," Xipher, who I actually want to know more about (not like the disappointing Arik), that won't get his own book until 2008.
Now, please bring on Ash's story, so people can stop griping that the last two books "have too much Ash," "have too little Ash," or just weren't his story.

Hard to believe this came from the same author who gave us Fantasy Lover. The only mature, interesting dialogue comes from Ash. Everything that comes out of Kat's mouth sounds like a thirteen year old with a "me" fixation. Kenyon's efforts at bantering between characters is so amateurish it's irritating.
Another irritation is the near-constant presence of Simi in this book. I can only assume that Kenyon thinks Simi's broken English ghetto speak is funny.
Kenyon's narrative has become so stale and juvenile there's no imagery or character development at all. Maybe she missed the part of Creative Writing 101 when the instructor said "show, don't tell."
Another reviewer commented on the overuse of "actually". Personally, I gave up counting the times something was "incredible." Has she run out of good words or forgotten how to use them?
I read the first love scene, then skipped over all the others. She can't seem to write a love scene that lets the reader mentally become part of what's going on. Instead, she relies on phrases like "..she loved it when he...".
I do not recommend waiting for the paperback. I recommend anyone who doesn't want to waste their valuable reading time to skip this entirely. Bad enough to pay the price for hard cover when it's a good book. When it's a book as bad as this one, it's downright maddening. My copy is already in the trash can.
The best series going is J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Crisp, tight writing, excellent development of complex characters, witty dialogue and superb narration.

Sin was one of the most powerful gods in the Sumerian pantheon, until the night Artemis tricked him and stole all his power. He’s spent his life being hated by his family, shamed by his wife’s constant affairs (a tough pill to swallow for a fertility god not being able to keep his own wife in his bed), and then being tricked out of his godhood to boot.
After thousands of years Sin can’t believe his luck in capturing Artemis, her hair is different and she’s insistent that she isn’t Artemis, but he knows the truth. Well, at least he thought that until Artemis shows up in his room while his captive was still there. He quickly realizes that if Kat isn’t Artemis that she must be her daughter, something that Artemis has gone to great lengths to hide.
Meanwhile, Sin has been fighting the gallu demons, an especially powerful kind of demon that can turn their victims into one of them with a simple bite. Kat bargains with Sin for him to teach her how to fight them.
However, an even worse kind of demon is getting ready to escape their prison that the Sumerians have maintained throughout the years. Their escape could end the world as we know it, but without Sin’s god powers he doesn’t know how he will be able to reinforce the seal that is quickly weakening. Especially with enemies doing all they can to make sure the Dimme are freed.
This book had a really slow start for me. The first half, if not more, of the book seemed like a big information dump as we learned about the demons and how Sin’s family have kept them contained throughout time, not to mention how Sin lost his godhood. During this time, I was too busy trying to digest all the information that I was failing to connect with the characters. But once I was well versed in all that was going on, I was able to watch the romance between Sin and Kat develop.
We also discovered Artemis’s secret that she has kept from Ash all these years, and it’s a big one! After she makes a deal with Ash that he can never kill her, she reveals the secret at long last. And, worse it seems that everyone knew, but him! It’s a game changer and I liked the side of Ash that it invoked! However, it’s a perfect example of why he hates Artemis so much. This book really shows how ugly and selfish the goddess really is.
Betrayal really seemed to be the theme of this book. We saw how everyone betrayed Sin … his wife, Artemis, and even Kat. It’s no wonder he has such a problem trusting anyone. We also got to see how Artemis took the gift of Ash’s love and betrayed him as well. She could have saved him from so much pain and humiliation, but found her pride more important. In the end, it destroyed his love for her.
This isn’t my favorite book of the series, but I find that we learn so many things that are going to carry into future books. This feels like a really important installment of the series and I did really enjoy Sin and Kat as a couple and hope to see more of them in the future. I loved seeing more of Ash as well.
Speaking of, my most anticipated installment is quickly approaching; Acheron! I can hardly wait!

Sumerian god, Sin was betrayed by Artemis who took his godhood. For centuries Sin has been biding his time waiting to exact revenge and he is getting closer to reclaiming his power and killing Artemis. However, the gallu are back and ready to destroy every human they come into contact with which is causing a distraction towards his overall goal.
Katra's whole life has been a secret, but when Artemis begs her to kill Sin to protect herself she knows she needs to find out why. She didn't expect to be fighting side by side Sin, nor did she expect that all the secrets that she has been hiding to be revealed and hurting Sin in the long run. Will he ever be able to forgive her?
There is a lot in this book that goes on that plays a big part in other books. Filled with characters, if you are a fan, you love. Sin has a major chip on his shoulder but he is a seductive hero who you want to learn more about. Katra was amazing and I loved her whole story. Amazing read.

Sin is an ex-god who has a serious wish for vengeance against Artemis. Katra is sent by Artemis to kill him, but she has second thoughts after watching him for a time. When he realizes what Kat is, and why she was sent after him, he plans to use her to claim his vengeance. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance will they be able to put aside their problems to defeat the gallu demons Sin is charged with fighting? There are some revelations in this book that affect a well loved character, and I loved the banter between Simi and Xirena they are hilarious. This is another great read in the Dark-Hunter series.

Sin, a Sumerian fertility ex-god and now owner of a Vegas casino, but as a Dark-Hunter instead of fighting Daimons, Sin is out saving mankind from Sumerian gallu which are more deadlier. They prey on humans which one bite will infect them and turn into a gallu. Artemis stole his powers over three thousand years ago and now with the gallu and Dimme demons trying to escape from their tomb, he is racing against time. Sin is looking for his twin brother, Zakar, who has disappeared and needs his help in fighting and sealing these demons back into their tomb.
Katra who we find out in this book is the daughter to Artemis and Ash. Artemis sends Kat to kill Sin but she finds out the true nature of Sin and his sanity by witnessing the killing of one of these gallu demons. She agrees to help Sin and finds herself falling for him but he soon learns that it was Kat who actually stole his powers.
This brings many characters into the mix with the storyline which you learn more about Ash/Artemis relationship, new obstacles..Dimme, gallu,, alliances to come and upcoming twists. We saw Samerian, Greek and Atlantean pantheons, Dream-Hunters, Demons, etc. coming together in the fight to save mankind from this new threat and sure to see more to come.....

Oh, he's hot! Ew, he's a cold killer. Oh, put him in a stasis because he burned a demon-bitten body.
Oh, more groups of supernatural species I couldn't care less about - weeee.
Apparently everything in Kenyon's books started the mythical 11,000 years ago. I'm already bored with this book.
Oh, so he kidnaps HeroineOfTheDay and holds her captive on his sofa while demanding that she's Artemis while she has a broken arm and it's A-OK!!!111!!! cause he's all hawt and shexy and ugh.
And then jackhole Sin uses HOTD as a hostage to get his powers back but it'll all be A-OK!!!111!!! because in a page or two they're fwiendz.
Awww, it's so much fun seeing Ash being a spineless moron who apparently likes being used and betrayed and tortured and beaten and humiliated.
For someone who is never left alone so she could be intimate with a man for the past 11,000 years so she could remain a vrigin for this story, Kat sure is being left alone a lot with Sin.
And now after the mandatory sex we have The Annoying Simi. Yay.
Oh, betrayal after betrayal after betrayal after betrayal!! Weee! It's a Betrayals-R-Us chain!
Despite all the above, it was actually a cute book. Some parts jumped incredible shark (11,000 virgin, anyone? Surprise: 11,000 year old daughter your omniscient-ness never knew about? Riiiiiiiiiiiight...), but other than that, it was cute.

I was excited when I found out that Katra was the heroine of Devil May Cry, I've always liked her character and was very intrigued to find out more about her connection to Artemis and why she is so willing to serve such a horrible goddess. I have to say I loved finding out more about Kat's background, there were so many surprises in her past and finding out who her parents were just blew my mind! Some major reveals right there and they're going to have a knock on effect throughout the series. There is a lot going on in this story, we get a lot of background on upcoming major characters, we get answers to some of the questions we've been asking for the last few books and my anticipation is definitely higher than ever when it comes to carrying on with the series.
I love that Kat is such a fierce heroine, she has her own powers and she has a strong sense of justice. We've seen her protecting others in previous books, even when she has to go against Artemis to do it and I knew she would be a heroine I'd enjoy reading about. Sin has every reason to hate Kat, just for her connection to Artemis since Artemis is the one who stole his powers and made him lose his god status but although he captures Kat just to get revenge he quickly realises that she's as much a victim as he is. I loved seeing him come to terms with the fact that he'd have to choose between his revenge and keeping Kat in his life, it isn't easy for him to put something he has dreamed of for so long to one side but he knows that Kat is worth any price. Kat feels terrible about what happened to Sin, especially when she realises that she played a role in his misfortune thanks to the lies Artemis told her. She is determined to make things right even if it means losing Sin forever.
I loved getting to see more of Simi and her sister Xirena in this story, the two of them never fail to make me laugh and I loved seeing them so protective of Kat. I also really enjoyed seeing a further glimpse into Ash's life, things that have been kept secret from him for such a long time are suddenly revealed and I can't wait to see how he responds to those revelations. He seemed to take the news quite calmly but I have a feeling we're going to see more of his angry side once he's had time to take it all in.
Sherrilyn Kenyon adds even more to her world building in this book, we learn about the Gallu demons who Sin has spent so many years fighting, we get to see more of both The Destroyer and Artemis and we are also introduced to a whole new set of enemies who are plotting to end the world. Things seem to be gearing up towards an epic showdown and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I thought this book was an odd mix of great, creative storytelling and good but not quite on par writing.
Sherrilyn did a great job creating a world of mythological creatures mainly revolving around Greek, Atlantean and Sumerian gods and demonology. If mythology interests you as it does me I would say I recommend this book based on that alone.
Her detailed background is impeccable. Her characters multi dimensional and the plot is and pace very strong. That’s really what kept me going with it as I read it over the weekend.
It is also a really moving story of an unlikely hero, a “man” robbed of his god-hood by a cunning goddess and his path to unexpectedly finding love at his life time enemies door while fighting evil that has, after thousands of years, evolved from stalking the human race only in the night to day, leading to a seemingly inevitable apocalypse.
The twists and turns in the story are really what keeps you coming back for more.
The intricate lies and selfish motives of the gods behind ancient betrayals give the book a really authentic and exciting feel.
I have to touch on the fact that there are sex scenes but they are tactfully sexy and meaningful but definitely for the New Adult and above reader. I like that she doesn’t pop them everywhere and there is so much suspense on the way there.
Everything would have been great had there not been a dissonance between the pictures conjured by the story and the tone of the book and voices of the character. I felt this area was really weak compared to another book I read by her (Dream Chaser) which I have previously given a 5 star rating. I thought the dialogue between characters for the most part was a little too much on the cheesy side, although I’m aware that was used for humor. The wording is what really put me off in places; it was just too nonchalant and bland for some of the characters presented.
The only character that sounded authentic to me was Simm who I assume is Asian.
The writing style is not all bad though because there are some great lines tucked in there.
Both cheesy and not-so-cheesy.
One of my favorites is right at the beginning, the first few lines of the epilogue.
VeanganceSome say it’s a poison that infiltrates the soul and strips it bear. That it’s path only destroys the one who treads it.But to others it’s mothers milk. It nourishes and thrives_ gives the reason to survive when they have nothing more to hold them to this world.
I bought this book last weeks at a local book store and these lines are actually what sealed the deal after reading the blurb.
Disclosure: I bought this book as a paperback at a book store here in South Africa.

The reread continues! I had forgotten how much this installment affects things down the line. The introduction of the gallu (creatures much closer to traditional vampires than Dark-Hunters and Daimons are), more hints about Ash's past (*sob*), and the banding together of some of the characters that have previously seemed to have their own agenda to stop a threat that could destroy them all - all these things made me *flaily*.
Seriously, there are parts of this book that KILLED me. I've always loved to hate Artemis for the things she forces Ash to do. In the words of Simi, she's a heifer-goddess. But she does have her moments. Sure, they're few and far between and they don't even come close to balancing out her selfishness but she has them. Her love for Katra is one of those things. She let her pride hurt Ash so badly that he only comes to her now because he has to. He gives his obedience grudgingly and she has to bargain for every minute of it. Katra is her tangible link to him. Even though Ash doesn't know about her existence, she is a reminder that once Artemis loved a man who worshipped her. Well, she loved him as much as she's capable of loving.
Honestly, Artemis treats Katra appallingly. Kat puts up with it because she truly loves her. But she's torn between Artemis and Apollymi - two powerful goddesses who each have a part in her world. It must be HARD being Kat.
Good thing she has a hunk of Sumerian godliness to climb all over. Well, ex-god. Still, he's got he hots for her, she has the hots for him. Too bad an impending apocalypse might just throw their relationship into disarray.
The Sumerian pantheon (and all the baddies who bubbled up from it) add another layer to the expanding Dark-Hunter world. Those poor Dark-Hunters. It seems like as soon as they defeat one almost-apocalypse, another one rears its ugly head. Weird, isn't it?

** spoiler alert ** Kat and Sin's story was awesome. I was very happy to learn that Kat was Artemis and Acheron's daughter. Also Appollomy's granddaughter since Acheron is Appollomy's son. Now we know why Kat served Artemis and Appolomy.
Kat's powers are like a conductor where she can be used to take powers from a god.
Sin is an ex-god (fertility god) that Artemis hates but Acheron saved his life along time ago, Sin is not a darkhunter but he is used to kill the other evil called gallu instead of the deamons like Stryker.
Simi (I love her and her BBQ sauce)and her sister had more action in this story and so did the dream gods. Even Hades helped Kat and Sin.
Acheron bonds Sin and Kat together after Kat is bitten by the gallu and there is no way to cure her, so Acheron drains all her blood and has Sin give her his blood - turning her into a vampire where she can only live by feeding off of Sin.
In the end, I think it is funny how instead of Sin wanting revenge against Artemis for taking his powers away from him, that now his revenge is falling in love with her daughter, becoming Kat's mate, and seeing Artemis face when he tells her that she's going to be a grandma now that Sin and Kat are going to have a baby. I absolutely love it.
I really enjoyed this book.

~Dark-Hunter Series~
~Devil May Cry~
~book 11~
~As an ancient Sumerian god, Sin was one of the most powerful among his pantheon. . . Until the night Artemis brutally stole his godhood and left him for dead. For millennia, this ex-god turned Dark-Hunter has dreamed only of regaining his powers and seeking revenge on Artemis. If only life were that simple.
Unfortunately he has bigger fish--or in Sin's case--demons, to fry. The lethal gallu that were buried by his pantheon are now stirring and they are hungry for human flesh. Their goal is to destroy mankind and anyone else who gets in their way. Sin is the only one who can stop them--that is if a certain woman doesn't kill him first. Unfortunately, Sin discovers that now he must rely on her or witness an annihilation of biblical proportions. Enemies have always made strange bedfellows, but never more so than when the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Now a man who knows only betrayal must trust the one person most likely to hand him to the demons. Artemis may have stolen his godhood, but this one has stolen his heart. The only question is will she keep it or feed it to the ones who want him dead?
I read Some of the Reviews and see we are Going to get some Answers? Can't Wait to Hear this......

So this is my latest review for the llth installment of Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series. I was very much looking forward to this one since it was promised to shed some light on the heroine's, Katra, backstory.
Summary: Sin is a deposed Sumerian god who had his powers stolen by Artemis 3,000 years ago, and who was saved by Acheron, leader of the Dark Hunters, in exchange for hunting down Sumerian demons called gallu. Katra is Artemis's handmaiden who has been sent down to Earth to kill Sin because of what she believes to be his mad and dangerous behavior. Kat soon realizes though that her assumptions about many things, including Sin, were wrong as she and the ex-god are charged with the task of saving the world from the release of Sumerian super-demons called the Dimme.
Pros:
Both Kat and Sin are very likable and entertaining characters. Their backstories are interesting, and I liked the introduction of Sumerian mythology into the story. We also learn a lot more about Katra's heritage and Acheron's in the process. The scenes with Simi, another kind of demon, are funny as always and help to lighten the mood. There are also a couple of other enjoyable side-characters such as Kish and Damien who help to the keep the story entertaining. I also thought the romance was pretty good as well. In previous books, I felt that it sometimes moved too fast or felt too forced, but that was not the case with this installment.
Cons:
Kat and Sin's interactions could get a little annoying with the amount of sarcasm that sometimes seemed inappropriate and out of place given the dire straights they were often in. However, this didn't keep me from enjoying the progression of their romance. Another major problem with the book was Katra and Acheron's relationship. Their interactions at the big revelation did not seem realistic. It felt too quick and too rushed. Also, the ending bothered me because it seems like Acheron just randomly uses his powers to save some people but not others without any sort of rules or reasoning behind the decisions.
Overall, this book was a fast and enjoyable read. Sin and Kat had great chemistry that was occasionally weighed down by the banter between them. All in all, this book is a good lead-up to Acheron's story.

Perhaps for someone who had never read any of Kenyon's Dark Hunters, this might have been a good book, but for me this was tedious. It seemed as if she had merely churned out a book in order to tie up a few more loose ends in the series which had little or nothing to do with story of the book itself. This plot did not seem to me to contribute much to the overall story arc, nor was the story particularly compelling. Although I like Ash, he is getting very boring. By the time his own book comes out, we will know almost all his backstory anyway, and not give two hoots about his future either. Sin and Kat, supposedly the main characters, were not engaging at all, despite the banter.
On a totally different note, I have to ask: Is America the only Daimon/demon infested place on earth? I mean all these gods - the Greeks, Atlantean, Sumatrean, etc. - all come from a totally different part of the world, not to mention the Dark Hunters (remember them?) who come from Africa, Europe, the Middle East. Do vampires not suck blood on the streets of Delhi? Are the inhabitants of Johannesburg immune to Daimon attacks? Perhaps Parisians have a special get out of jail free card for the end of the world?
Frankly, I am amazed Kenyon's world didn't die out centuries ago. In the beginning of this series there was one hinted cause of the Apocalypse: Ash. In this book I counted aproximately seven different ways to destroy the world: Ash, Ash's Ma; the death of Artemis; the death of Kat; releasing demon species number one; releasing demon species number two; the death of any god/goddess - yet despite the wholesale destruction of at least two pantheons, somehow the world still survives.
It seems that lately each book is getting successively more over the top. Each hero must be more tortured, look more evil, control or have the potential to control more power than the previous one. Never-before-heard-of yet centuries-old threats-to-all-humanity (at least those living in North America)seem to pop up every few books with tedious regularity, each more powerful, violent, potentially destructive yet easily defeatable than the last. The heroines have mutated from being strong ordinary women in extraordinary circumstances, to being powerful goddesses who act like they just graduated from highschool despite being centuries old.
This latest offering was rather like reading an episode of the X-Men. Paranormal adolescents on steroids.

Eons ago, when the universe was ruled by more than one pantheon, Sin was one of the most powerful and revered Sumerian gods. However, power breeds jealousy and everyone knows how vicious those immortals could be. Befriended by the goddess Artemis, Sin had fallen prey for her charm, a mistake that would cause him dearly. Stripped of his powers, Sin found himself at the mercy of the Olympians unable to win the battle that wiped out his entire pantheon. If not for Acheron, he would never have survived. For years he has walked among us, having patiently waited for the day when he could seek his vengeance on Artemis, never anticipating the revelation that would greet him as he finally comes face to face with the goddess.
Fearing for her life, Artemis sends the one person she knows she can rely on. A former handmaiden of the goddess, Katra goes after Sin to try and thwart his plan to kill Artemis. But when she ends up being captured by Sin, she learns of the goddess' duplicity and is racked by guilt over her role in Sin's fate. To make matters worse, she also learns that the biggest threat to mankind is about to be unleashed. Knowing that Sin is the only one capable of defeating the Gallu and Dimme, Katra vows to make up for her errors by helping Sin in the upcoming battle.
We know what happens next from here on. The author tells that they have fallen in love sacrificing every need for character development so she could pen some sex scenes. Frankly speaking, it wasn't so much the characters that held my interest, but the revelations that come after. The Gallu, Dimme and Charonte, demons galore! The truth about Katra and the powerful bloodline that she possesses was a welcome surprise. But paramount of all is learning more about Acheron's youth, his relationship with Artemis and the reason why he cannot destroy her. These were what I enjoyed most about this book.
DEVIL MAY CRY had every possibility of being on par with the earlier Dark-Hunter novels. However, the sarcasm between the hero and heroine bordered on being childish and the romance felt too contrived to be believable. Yes, it was good to see the devil meet his salvation and find that he no longer needs to exist on his own, but the romance wasn't to die for. Yet these gripes aside, there is hope for more as we come closer to reading about the ultimate Dark-Hunter: Acheron. I simply cannot wait!

I just finished reading Sherrilyn Kenyon's book Devil May Cry from the Dark-Hunter series for the second time and I couldn't get enough of it! After reading several of her works it dosen't surprise me in the least to learn that she has appeared on the Top Ten list of The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and USA Today.
Devil May Cry
Sin is an ancient Sumerian god whose powers were taken away by Artemis, who he has sworn to destroy if their paths ever crossed again. But he has bigger fish to deal with as the demon known as Gallus are hungry for humans. He is only one who has a chance to stop them, but when a mysterious woman looking like Artemis appears before him what's a man to do other than hold her hostage and demand his powers back?
Now he has to decide whether he can shove his craving for revenge against Artemis aside long enough to accept her help, but the road of trust and betrayal is all too familiar to him. Before he knows it not only does the woman have his heart in her hands, but she may be just what he's looking for to save his life when things get rocky, but can he trust her? Or will she abandon him?
I couldn't put the book down. Even after reading it a second time I still feel like I can go back and read it again. Kenyon really puts you there in the moment. She tugs at your heart and as her characters struggle and come to realize you're there bedside them feeling their pain or happiness. She really does know how to keep you wanting more, from her dashingly stunning characters, to her use of the Greek Gods and Goddesses; she leaves out no expense in depth.
Just read any of her books and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Devil May Cry: Dark-Hunters Book 11
Sherrilyn Kenyon
Piatkus
Sin is a Sumerian god who was stripped of his powers by Artemis. He has spent the last 11,000 years fighting Gallu demons while dressed in black leather, and plotting revenge against Artemis. Sin's father created the Gallu and his entire family has been destroyed fighting to keep humans safe from them. The only other person capable of fighting them is Ash, and bound by his promise to Artemis, he's unable to help. So Sin is the only one stopping the Gallu from destroying the earth.
Katra is a goddess devoted to fighting evil. She is also a servant of Artemis, carries out her orders, and is also Artie's lookalike daughter. After being ordered by Artemis to kill Sin, Kat is captured by him. After learning how her mother stole his powers, she decides to make things right by fighting with him to defeat the Gallu and avoid the Apocalypse. Kat is also Ash's daughter. He finally finds about her after 12,000 years.
They must rescue Sin's twin brother, Zakar, from his torture at the hands of the Gallu, as well as stopping the Gallu demons, the Dimme, from escaping. Dream-Hunters, daimons, dolphoni and Chrontere demons team up to offer their help - yes! Simi! Throughout the book we get a clearer hint of Ash's past, his ties to Artemis, and family.
This is a well-written action-packed story filled with known and new characters and very hot romance. A new Dream-Hunter was introduced, Xipher, who sounds interesting! Ash's servitude to Artemis ends with this book and next in the series is his story - so there's anticipation to look forward to.

I enjoy the Dark Hunter series the way I enjoy candy corn. Once or twice a year, I go on a romance-type-ish binge and devour a few dozen novels almost overnight before realizing they just don't have a lot of substance. Having discovered Ms. Kenyon's books at 'Acheron,' I've been playing a game of catch-up.
I liked Sin. His backhistory was had little to do with the -real- Mesopotamian fertility god of the Uruk/Ur (who I've had cause to research), but I liked him despite his flaws. He got a raw deal. He was angry. The parts where he described his anger and grief at things I won't say so I don't spoil it for other readers were within the norms of human reactions if YOU had that happen to you. Was he a moody, brooding bad-boy? Of course. That's what romance readers want (even if it all starts to sound the same after a while).
I was less enthralled with Kantra for reasons other reviewers have outlined. Especially when she interacted with Acheron (won't say why ... would spoil it ... but it was just like, no way!). The rest of the characters, too, seemed contrived. I felt as though Ms. Kenyon got an idea for a character with an interesting backstory, and then when she tried to put him into her existing universe it just fell flat.
I enjoyed this book because I borrowed it from my library for free and devoured it during my 'candy corn' binge. It was what I expected, it met my expecations for formulaic fluff, and it was a nice escape from reality. I will keep recommending our local library keep stocking Ms. Kenyon's books because, when the cover price is divided amongst a large group of readers, it was an interesting read. Had I downloaded it to my kindle for a couple of bucks, I would have enjoyed it as well. But I feel I must only give this novel three stars because, had I paid full-price to buy it new, I would have been upset. I think Ms. Kenyon's publisher is pressuring her into rushing her ideas to market while they are still in the percolation stage and not giving her enough time to credibly bring her characters to life. I hope this changes.

So my first Sherrilyn Kenyon book was not a good read. I read her foray into YA and was really not impressed. At all. I thought that Infinity was just bad. In my review I think I wrote about how the author must usually write adult books and obvioulsy had a hard time taming it for the young crowd. (I felt it was over tamed, bad guys don't scare me if they say they'll kick my butt. I'd laugh in your face.)
Anywho, this was my first "adult" book that I'd read (actually listened to) from Sherrilyn. Wow, I wish I'd discovered these sooner! What a story! And I saw exactly why she didn't do a good job moving to YA, because her adult books are good. I'll definitely be listening to Ash's story, how could you not? I want to find out what happens with him and that crazy thing Artemis!
Hey, if I spell anything wrong, sorry! Blame the audiobook, which I really liked. I thought the narrator did a great job. He had me laughing out loud a few times.
I liked Sin. He obviously wasn't perfect. He got hit in fights and he was bitter because Artemis took his Sumerian god powers a few years ago. He really, really got the short end of the stick in life, don't you think?
I kind of liked Cat. I felt she could have been honest with Sin. She told him something that no one else knew, she obviously trusted him. But obviously not that much if she didn't tell him her secret. I had a hard time imagining her as 6'4"! Why didn't she know about the Gallu? Why wasn't there more info on BB about Sin, when he owned a stinkin' Casino? Not exactly hermit status.
The bad guys are actually quite scary. The Gallu demons are creepy. Kassar is extremely creepy and mean and it stinks because they are described as handsome in their human form. Hey, are the other demons good or bad? Are the demons that Sin employ, the same demons that the grandma uses as protectors, or the same demons that Cat hated (hates)?
Looking at the other reviews, I'll have to check out a non-god book as well, to see how they compare. Apparently this much emphasis on them in unusual for the series.
My only real beef is the reasoning for Cat giving her Sin her "special gift". I wanted to take her aside and have a talk with her about self respect. She waited how many centuries only to give it away like that? I just didn't understand that at all. I suppose it worked out in the end, but still.
All in all, I enjoyed it and look forward to listening to Ash's story.

I pick up Sherrilyn Kenyon when I want to be entertained, to befriend new characters, and find new characters that I love to hate. This book delivers everything I could possibly want in a Darkhunter novel. Sin lives up to his name, and Kat is just enough of a badass to make me respect her. If you're looking for an amazing cast of characters and a fun paranormal romping adventure, look no further.
Sin is an ex-god who, despite everything he has gone through in his immortal life, still wants to save the human race from evil demons. After Artemis stole his powers from him so many years ago, he wants her dead and his powers returned to him. He has spent his life fighting off demons, keeping the human race as safe as possible from destruction. When he catches the goddess unaware, he knows his luck has changed.
When Kat first sees Sin, he is desecrating human remains and she knows that he deserves every bit of death that she is to bestow on him. When she meets him, she quickly realizes that he is in pain beyond imagining. She learns the truth behind his struggles, and knows that she has to fight the same fight. She falls for Sin's devilish good looks and broody charm (who wouldn't?)
Sin and Kat are up for the fight of their immortal lives. They are given the chance for a great love, but will they live long enough to enjoy it? Curl up with this book and a glass of your favorite sin and let Sherrilyn take you on an adventure.

I love this book just like the rest of the Dark Hunter books. I didn't read them in order but they are so good you don't have to,even though I wish I did. I felt for Sin hurt as much well not as much as Ash. I read Ash story first but I was already in love with him before reading his story which only made me love him more.I also had read Xyphers story and Im always suprised how much these men go through before finding they're life mates.
This book will leave you wanting for more.
I can never get enough of Ash. I wouldn't want to be the person to have to find a man to live up to the image the book gives or should I say that I have of him. I guess this is one time that no movie/picture could hold up to the picture thats in my head of him. I've been married 20 years to a wonderful man but Ash could make me cheat LOL.
I love this series Mrs Kenyon you could keep them coming and I wouldn't grow tired of them as long as Ash has a part in them:)
Ladies these books are worth it. Action both romantic and adventure great plots, great stories. The characters are awesome. I can't say nothings wrong with them except I can't get enough of them. Also it's got some sex parts in them but there not all in your face there the kind that makes you want to cuddle with you special someone. Yes your face may turn red but you won't want to vomit.
Love,Love,Love this series.
(Reading order Fantasy Lover,Night Pleasures,Night Embrace,Dance With The Devil,Kiss of the Night,Night Play,Seize the Night,Sins of the Night,Unleash the Night,Dark side of the Moon,Dream Hunter and Devil may Cry.)

Short synopsis: Sin is the Sumerian god of fertility. He has his powers taken from him by a Greek Goddess, Artemis. He plots to kill her and get his powers back.
Sin also runs a casino in Las Vegas while doing his part-time job of killing demons who shouldn't be wandering the earth. He has a minimal amount of god-like power that were transferred to him from his dying daughter.
Artemis would like to kill him because she knows Sin wants to kill her. One God, Acheron, who happens to be trapped with Artemis in her Pantheon refuses to because he is Sin's friend and he knows that Artemis stole his powers from him in a very unethical way. He is also the god of fate, so he attempts to do non-intervention whenever possible so that some fate is in the hands of people themselves.
Now, many eons ago, Artemis had a love affair with Acheron when he was human. When he was asked about his whereabouts his alibi was about making sweet monkey love to Artemis. He wasn't believed and Artemis never showed up. So, they kill him off. Acheron hates Artemis now. She's drama, self-absorbed and lame. And when she tries to come to him, he blows her off. She presents a child to him and he thinks its a peace offerring to make up for the death of a nephew (which I don't think is ever mentioned except in this one instance--- which is poor writing to me). Anyhow, he rebukes her not knowing it is his child.
Years later, Artemis asks Kat to kill her arch-nemesis, Sin. Kat investigates and decides not to.
Anyhow, lots of drama and cheese. I'm getting bored writing about this. I finished the book just because I wanted to. It wasn't a page turner.
The steamy parts were mediocre. The plot line had too many subplots. The cheese was stale.
Not a great book, but then again, not a completely terrible one. I bought this book because I remember reading another Sherrilyn Kenyon book in the dream-hunter series and thought that one was good. Then again, this one is book 11, so maybe the author is now stretching the series.

The Story
3000 years ago Sumerian god Sin had his powers stolen from Artemis. Since then he hunts the gallu demons. They were created by his pantheon, but now that it no longer exists Sin and his twin are responsible. The gallu demons make daimons look like kittens. The gallu demons are plotting to release the Dimme demons. That would be the extinction of mankind. Katra is sent by Artemis to kill Sin, but she realizes her mother lied about Sin. Katra jumps into helping Sin. Together they must find the key elements to reseal the Dimme and stop the gallu.
Thoughts
This book is very touching, because Ash FINALLY, after 11000 years, meets his daughter-Katra. Why they kept her from him for so long just pisses me off, I can't fathom keeping that kind of secret. It did make for a very emotional reunion tho. Sin is such a good man, he just keeps things very close to the vest. Katra has made appearances throughout the series, so it was nice to finally get the whole picture. The creativity of new demons introduced was new and refreshing story. The pace is fast and content captivating. I wish there was more of Katra, sin and Ash interaction. This book also sets up more for the book Acheron. Katra fills a huge hole in Sin. It is a very memorable book in the series.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series of books has been extremely successful and has now stretched to this, the twelfth instalment. However for me this wasn't a very satisfying story taken on its own and is probably one for long-time fans of the series rather than new readers.
The Dark Hunter series brings together various ancient gods (Greek gods and, in this story, the gods of ancient Sumer too) who fight amongst themselves. There are also various demon and other creatures that cause mayhem and the Dark Hunters' role is to protect humanity.
This story focuses far more on the supernatural element. We meet Sin, one of the ancient Sumerian gods, who has been carrying out a one-man mission to prevent global annihilation for thousands of years. He holds a huge grudge against the goddess Artemis who stripped him of his powers. However when Artemis sends her daughter, Katra, to kill Sin she discovers the work that he is doing to save humanity and joins him in it. Of course Sin isn't aware of who she is initially and even when he finds out she's the daughter of Artemis there are more secrets that she holds from him, things that he might not be able to handle.
There are a lot of secrets in this story. The secret of Kat's existence, unknown to her father Acheron, is one; there are many other things revealed as the book progresses but the most notable thing about this book is the enormous cast of characters and different gods, demons, races. For someone who hasn't read all the other stories there was far too much going on in this story and the backstory was lamentably thin. As the story continued there were more and more supernatural beings added to the mix with their apparently limitless powers and it became extremely difficult to follow the underlying story, that of Kat and Sin. Our hero and heroine were slightly disappointing in that their characters didn't really develop beyond an attraction to each other and I didn't feel particularly sympathetic to them.
Of course when the big secret is unveiled, the one that could separate them forever... it was rather a damp squib. Their mission to save the world is important but they seemed to get sidetracked periodically - including by the bedroom - and the momentum of the plot was rather jerky. Fight scenes are over quickly, people are able to flash from place to place instantly and the gods powers seem to always encompass just what they need to get out of a particular situation. Overall this was a very disappointing book and the cast list was far too wide for someone who hasn't kept up with the series to understand what's going on.

This was a good, fun and funny read. Sherrilyn Kenyon told us a lot of the back story about Ash, which I loved learning. She foreshadows Ash's story nicely, so she will be telling his story. She also introduced many new characters, so I imagine she is planning future novels about them (although I'd like to see more about the Dark Hunters).
This story had a lot of humor and sarcasm, some of which I thought worked well, and which at other times I thought wasn't appropriate. Sin was a great hero, wounded but carrying on. The characters admitted their love fairly early on, so the tension after that was created from the other characters around them.
This leads to the loss of a star. I thought not enough of the story was about Sin and Kat. And I felt there just wasn't the sense of will-all-this-work-out? that the other books had. Of course, they are going to save the world (until next time). They still had all their myriad powers. Even all the bad stuff that happened seemed forced, because there was the inevitable sense all would be fine in the end.
Having said all that, it's a great read. I stayed up late to finish it.

I loved Devil May Cry. It answered many questions I had and was a lot of fun to read. I really liked Sin and I love Kat. The book even humanizes Apollymi.
This one read like an 'end of the world' episode of Buffy. Since I love Buffy, that was fine with me. The interactions between Xirena and Simi was also a hoot but I was a little disappointed there wasn't any mention of Alexion and Danger but oh well, can't have it all in one book.
Sin was just delicious. I loved him and Kat together and found his 'scoobie' support team of Kish and Damien equally delightful. SK has been really humanizing the Daimons lately and I feel for them a lot more especially since Kiss of the Night but it could be because there's something bigger and badder loose on the streets now.
This book really made me hate Artemis. It wasn't because she beats Acheron or because of the flashbacks into his past where she betrays him. It's because after all that, she still refuses to understand what she did was wrong and ontop of that, Acheron doesn't hurt her back when he is able to, right where it would hurt her the most, in her non existent heart.
One thing I did not like in this book was the part where Kat has to make a sacrifice in order for Sin to live. Acheron tells her as soon as she does this, it's permanent. No going back. Yet about five pages later her sacrifice is negated when Sin gives it back to her, as if it's just a little something she gave him to use temporarily and now that he's done with it, he gives it back. That's not a sacrifice. That's letting someone borrow something. Ugh. Since it was the very last part of the book, it really bugged me.
Anyhoo, I really liked the book. A lot of answers were given and I can't wait for Acheron's book to come out. In the meantime I'm going to tackle Xypher's book because SK really intrigued me about his possible story. I also kind of hope there is more of Hades in the future because I'm starting to like the little glimpses I get of him.
It's funny but if you've seen the tx show Hercules and Xena, that's how I picture all the gods and goddesses up there on Olympus.

Ash fans, if you haven't been quite sure of what is going on with him, you will appreciate Devil May Cry. Finally, Kenyon actually explains many of the cryptic hints she's dropped in her other Dark Hunter books. While this is not the main thrust of the book, it was a nice little surprise. I'll admit that I too was ready to give up on the Dark Hunter series. I haven't enjoyed the last 3 or so and liked the Dream Hunters even less. But this is really not a Dark Hunter romance. It is more like a connected story set in the Dark Hunter world, and in this case that is a good thing.
Sin is a Dark Hunter in name only. He isn't dead. He's a former god and although like the others he was betrayed, he doesn't hunt daemons or go to the Dark Hunter office parties. Ash mades Sin Dark Hunter only to protect him from Artemis after she drained Sin's powers and tried to kill him. Now centuries later, Sin has caught Artemis' attention once again and Artemis sends Kat to finish him off. Instead of killing him, Kat discovers that she must join with Sin to defeat an old enemy who, if loosed on the world, will mean the end of humanity.
I was happy to finally read Kat's story, she has been a wonderful and intriguing side character in quite a few of the other books. Kat is powerful, patient, kind and empathetic. This book is really about love, betrayal and redemption, and pulling in the thread with Ash really brought more depth to what was going on between Sin and Kat.
So read the other reviews and decide for yourself. I thought that this was a worthwile read, but know also that I purchased it second hand and it was worth that price. I personally am sad that Kenyon has gone to releasing these in hardcover, because not too many books are worth the extra 15 dollars.

Sin was a Sumerian god who is now a Dark Hunter. Sin is not your normal Dark Hunter. He has some perks and oddities that normal Dark Hunters could not even dream of. Sin's greatest wish is to kill the goddess Artemis, the person who stole his god powers.
Fearing for her life and increasingly concerned about Sin's behaviors, Artemis has sent Katra to kill Sin. When Katra goes to complete this task, she soon begins to understand that there is more to Sin than a "rogue Dark Hunter." Rather someone whose past betrayals have shaped him into a person who finds it difficult to trust and depend on anyone but himself. And Sin soon realizes that his feelings for Katra could very well overshadow his need for vengeance. But, he fears that Kat's many secrets could very well destroy his trust for good.
Devil May Cry was a "roller coaster" read. It was up and down and there were plots all over the place. And while it was an improvement over some of her last writing efforts, it does tend to suffer from the same problems as previous stories. Too many characters and storylines, and not enough attention to the main protagonists in the story. Sherrilyn also decided to introduce a new enemy in this story (Gallu & Dimmes) that makes the daimons and Stryker's army look like pussycats. Sherri has so many twists and turns in her world, that you wonder how she herself keeps them straight.
Still, her series has amassed an almost "cult-like" following, of which I'm a member. :) And as long as she puts them out, we're going to keep reading them. Devil May Cry is a must read for fans of the Dark-Hunter world.

I loved this series from the start; now not so much.
I am disappointed with the last couple books in the series.
In any event, this one is better than the last. However, it doesn't measure up to the standards she set in the earlier books. I didn't laugh, cry, get mad, or even feel sorry for Sin (or anyone else for that matter). I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat eager to see what happened next. And that is the most disappointing thing of all. Until recently every book played on my emotions through-out the story. The last few books, I've felt nothing. What a tragedy.
I'm looking forward to Ash's story (and Nick's as well). Maybe then Ash will stop hanging out on Artie's balcony thinking about how much he hates her while he waits for her to use him however she sees fit. I'm ready for him to be the all seeing, all hearing, all knowing Ash again. He was so yummy back in the day!

A snarky, sexy paranormal romance in a favorite series. I seriously enjoyed it, even if I was annoyed that Sin couldn't see how much Kat's mother manipulated her during the incident. Yeah, be upset she didn't come clean but he saw the memory! Gah. Yet, still couldn't put the book down!

Kat has been ordered, by her mother, Artemis, to locate and kill Sin, a seemingly evil and rogue Dark Hunter. Eager to please her mother, Kat tracks down Sin (ex-fertility God & Sumerian) and realizes that everything is not what it seems. Sin isn't exactly evil, and she doesn't exactly have the stomach to kill him especially since she is hiding a secret (that it is she who stole his powers and not her mother). It soon becomes evident that "deliciously sexy Sin" has been trying to prevent some really bad things from happening to a very unsuspecting world. As each face their own secret pasts and devastating pasts, they have to save the world and each other. As Kat attempts to right a wrong, Sin fights to locate his brother, Zakar (who not only holds the key to the mystery but who also has the ability to prevent evil from escaping) and forgive himself for not protecting him. Meanwhile Sin learns that Zakar has been held and tortured by some really bad people who care nothing about humankind. And on top of that, our beloved Ash is being held as a love slave by Artemis and was never told that Kat was his daughter.
If you love the Dark Hunter series, Devil May Cry will not leave you disappointed, just with some of the same questions that you had before, even though you do get a little more information about why Ash deals with Artemis. Although Ash is sacrificing himself for mankind, I am a little tired of Artemis and her antics. But with that said, you do get to see some of the characters that you have grown to love as the series developed (Simi, Ash, Hates, etc), and there are definitely hints of future stories (novel ends in a cliffhanger) to come.

I had to borrow this book off of Chris (book guru) because I haven't got my copy yet (I only get hardbacks of my collections because they are so pretty on my book shelf) and I had to wait until pay day (book aficionado's know what I mean, you can only buy so much before your broke). So I got to read it early.
A little off tangent... I have noticed that most book enthusiasts surround themselves with others of similar taste, so they can share. This I LOVE...
So anyway, I waited for the newest Dark-Hunter for a while. Nevertheless, I was impressed with this one. The story goes like this...
Kenyon became a remarkable success story with Dark Side of the Moon, which became an instant bestseller. Now, her newest, most imaginative, and most breathtaking Dark-Hunter novel yet tells the tale of an ex-god in search of revenge, a servant of Artemis out to stop him, deadly enemies at every turn and a plot that may very well end the world. Ever since the moment his godhood was taken by Artemis, Sin has done nothing but plot his revenge. But when he kidnaps a woman he believes to be the goddess, he quickly finds out that she is not Artemis, but her servant, Katra. Instead of capturing her, Katra captures him. She refuses to release him until he promises not to seek vengeance on her mistress. In spite of himself, Katra, who is nothing like the deceitful Artemis, intrigues Sin. She's fierce and true, but also compassionate and loyal. However, Sin is not the only enemy Artemis has and it quickly becomes apparent that he must help Katra save her mistress... or life as we know it will cease to exist. What's an ex-god to do?
As if the stories description isn't enough to grab you, this is one every Sherrilyn Kenyon fan must read. It answers many questions, like who it Katra, why does Ash put up with Artemis and where can this story really go after 10 books in the series? This one opened many new characters and ended the story for a one of my favorites (can we have a moment of silence for the skoti that I really liked). I like the new direction Kenyon has taken (away from Dark-hunters, even though I love them, and into the many species in the other realms). I can't wait to see what she does next....

It seemed to start out well and then it just kind of seemed to fumble though what was going on. I mean in this book we learn more about Ash and Katra comes into the picture also (it is about Sin and Kat). We learn a bit more about Artemis and Ash's relationship, dysfunctional as it is. And while all these things seem intriguing and while I did love Ash's part in the book... this story lacked something. It was short and seemed to be a filler until a real story came along. It is really a pity because I thought Sin had great potential.
We are also introduced to a future character called Xypher. I am intrigued by him but I believe like all SK's hunters he will be completely innocent and totally misunderstood.

There were several times when I was confused but the overall story was really good. At one time it started to go to fast but once the fighting started it slowed back down. We find out several new connections in this story. Several surprises.
Katra is a goddess who is sent to kill Sin for Artemis. She believes he is going to kill her for stealing his power decades ago. Sin is a Sumerian God who fights gallu ( they are ten times worse than demons and harder to kill). Dimme will destroy the world if they are released, so Sin and Kat fight to keep them imprisoned.

Ex-god Sin hates Artemis--he hates her a lot. After eleven thousand years, he spends most of his time thinking about how he'd still like to kill her. So, it's only natural that he want to kill Artemis's daughter, Katra Agrotera, AKA Kat. There's this pesky detail of the world ending soon with the escape of a group of demons fellow members of Sin's Asyrian pantheon locked up eons earlier, but getting revenge on Artemis would come first.
Dark hunter leader Acheron Parthenopaeus (AKA Ach) hates Artemis, too. Boy would he like to kill her--except he's also in love with her and killing her would result in his own death. Still, it bugs him that Artemis orders him around all the time. Hate, Hate, Hate.
Kat thinks of herself as a clever sarcastic person but she acts pretty juvenile--you'd think eleven thousand years or so and she'd grow up a bit. When she meets Sin, she is initially turned off--after all, he doesn't seem to care about people, employs demons, and her mother accused him of rape. But his hot (scarred) body turns her on and he does deny the rape charge. So, time to give up her eleven-thousand years of virginity and engage in some hot sex. Not to mention working with him to save the world--when Sin isn't being all protective.
There really is the core of a great story here, along with some intriguing world-building. I enjoy the way the various pantheons mingle and battle with one another. Author Sherrilyn Kenyon writes hot love scenes and her action scenes aren't bad either. Unfortunately for DEVIL MAY CRY, there are too few of those action scenes and too much time spent with Sin obsessing about all the betrayals in his live (once in eleven thousand years--oh the pity). When interesting things do happen (like Kat being transformed into a form of vampire--which really could have been the basis for an incedible conflict) they seem to get lost.
Kenyon is a talented author and I've enjoyed other novels by her. The writing in DEVIL MAY CRY is capable and compelling enough that I finished the novel. Although this one has its moments--and definitely picks up toward the end when the fighting actually starts--it also had its problems. For me, the joke of the Valley-girl-talking demons and the 'everyone hates Artemis' choir got real old long before the book ran out. Characters incapable of holding more than one emotion and the frequency in which the fast-coming end of the world is simply forgotten, make it hard to really form any attachment to the story. As Artemis says, so what if the world ends--the gods can create more people. Because I didn't feel like this was my world, wasn't brought into it, I didn't much care whether Sin and Kat won or lost. Too bad because there is some cool stuff here that Kenyon could have run with.

Devil May Cry is an entertaining installment in the Dark Hunter series, but not one of the best. We learn more about the world Kenyon has created and her characters' histories, which for fans will be the most important aspect of the novel.
The romance itself is just okay. I felt like Sin's dual personality was a bit cliched and Katya's love a bit rushed. Par for the course with your standard romance novel, in other words. The plot and action were entertaining and the novel as a whole was a good read, but it's nothing that will stand out amongst its peers.
There are both better and worse books in the Dark Hunter series. If you're new to the series, I can't recommend starting with this installment. If you're a fan, the revelations in the novel make it more than worth reading.

This book was fairly boring and it was hard to get through parts of it. Sin is dark and brooding; Kat is naive, judgemental and stupid.
Yes Sin, you were betrayed.
Kat - you are just plain an idiot. Of course Sin doesn't trust you! Nor should he - especially since you (even unknowingly) helped betray him! Sin is being smart. And what makes you think that you are such a great fighter? One of the gallu almost killed you before Sin saved your life. Where were your great fighting abilities??
Talking about fighting abilities. I am really confused. There are imortals some of whom are 'gods' and have more 'powers' than others. OK. But why is it so inconsistant? Sometimes the 'gods' use their powers so that they are unbeatable and sometimes they fight and react like normal human beings so that anyone can hurt and kill them What is up with that??

So lately, like everyone else, I have been getting disappointed with what used to be my favorite series. When I learned that this book was going to feature Kat, I got really excited and finished the book in less than 24 hours. While Devil May Cry didn't finish off to the level as say, Dance With The Devil (1 of my faves!), it certainly was a lot better than The Dreamhunter (I didn't even get past the first chapter!).
Good Points:
1. Less outside plots. While this book still has a couple plots intertwined, Kenyon avoids confusing you too much. I think it was in Ravyn's book where I was so confused with all the different side plots that I didn't even know how they were connected to the main story or even why they were included in the book at all!
2. History makes sense! Kenyon does a good job tying things together so the reader understands more about the relationship regarding Ash/Artemis/Kat/Apollymi. I learned a lot.
3. Great characters! I really enjoyed Kat, a heroine who can kick major butt and her dialogue was hilarious. Sin is not my favorite hero, but I didn't really mind him. I also enjoyed the other secondary heroes like Xypher! I'm intrigued and want to read his upcoming book.
Neutral Point (As in it depends on you):
1. More violence! The scenes in this book involving the new bad guys make the daimons seem like pokemon, but sometimes it could seem sort of senseless. However, I think Kenyon wrote these scenes in so we could understand the gravity of the situation and how powerful they are.
Bad Points:
1. It seemed too short. The novel expands over a short time period and because of that, the chemistry between Kat and Sin seemed slightly forced. And everything involving the enemy just seemed too quick and not enough happened.
2. Repetitive! Artemis being the bitch and Ash being stuck with her while the protagonists encounter twenty million different characters seems like something that happens in every novel now...
Final Verdict: While this book isn't the best, it certainly isn't the worst either. In certain aspects, Devil May Cry completes its job by tying up a lot of loose ends in Ash's past. However, you have to ask yourself if you even care anymore. I remember that when I first met him, I was really curious and read all the books just to find out even a smidge! Now though, several books later, I find that my excitement is running low for this series which is a shame. I recommend that you either borrow this book or wait for paperback. I'll end on a good note: there were some scenes that I believe no Dark Hunter fan should miss, so you should read Devil May Cry if you're still a fan!

After the last few disappointing entries in a series that started out with a huge bang, I was so happy to read the latest in the addictive Dark-Hunter series. This one is definitely more worthy of Ms. Kenyon, who strayed way off path previously. Granted, this book was not perfect, but many questions were answered. Of course, questions were also raised!! But that is a good thing in a series, I would think. Like everyone else, I'm getting darn impatient for Ash's story. This sexy, weary, tough soul is so deserving of it. But the heroine would need to be just right, naturally.
STOP RIGHT HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET AND DON'T WANT A SPOILER!!!
Ok, that being said, I could have done without all the "Daddy" and "Baby" references. The familial relationship is an essential part of the story line, but I think it was just a little to quick & easy for Ash and Katra to fall into the nickname and I-Love-You thing. I could warm up to it, though.
One of my favorite things about this series is the smart mouths. I can never get too much sass, especially when it's from a strong heroine! Kat does pretty well with it. You go, girl!

Centuries ago, the Goddess Artemis betrayed the Sumerian God Sin; ultimately she stole his power. The former deity has patiently waited for an opportunity to regain what he lost and more by stripping his enemy of her strength. Sin apparently steals an artifact that alerts Artemis that he is pursuing her. She assigns her most trusted servant Katra to kill Sin.
Although she works for Artemis, Kat does not trust the goddess who is known for her perfidious activities. Instead of assassinating Sin, she decides to find out what he is doing. She learns he has no time to fool with vengeance as an ancient vampiric Sumerian race plans to release the lethal Dimme super-demons to destroy the world; only a Sumerian God can prevent them from success, but Sin has not had deity level power since Artemis betrayed him. Kat offers her help even as the two wary warriors fight their attraction for one another.
The latest Dark Hunter tale affirms how tremendous this series truly is because it takes classical mythology, but places it in a modern day setting. The strong story line contains a powerful lead couple needing to ally themselves to one another to save humanity but they are reluctant to trust one another with their heart and soul. Although difficult for newcomers to follow as the Kenyon mythos is delightfully (for fans) much more complicated than the genome mapping, DEVIL MAY CRY adds much to the saga.

I LOVED this book! I love this series. You can't have anything better than Greek mythology and vampires and demons! I've been waiting for Kat's book for so long! This made me laugh at the snarky sarcastic conversations between Sin and Kat. And it made me cry when Kat and Ash...well, you just have to read it. There are so many questions answered!!

Although this book was an OK story, what really makes it worthwhile are the secrets and confrontations that take place. Katra our main Heroine is an interesting and spunky character although I did get the sense that for being thousands of years old she was a bit TOO sheltered. Strangely enough even as I write this review I almost forgot about Sin's part. Sin, the Sherri's-Typical-Angsty-Hero, wasn't as real to me. Perhaps if we'd gotton a better look of him in previous books we'd have a better overview of his character. However, we didn't and so the story could've suffered if it weren't for the revelations. I won't tell you the details but several theories were proved right whereas others were shot to he!! Overall, it was simply a teaser for future books, mainly Acheron's.

Even the Devil May Cry - best title of her books. I loved this book in the series. I am a big Ash fan and so any mention of him, I'm sold! I liked the romance between Sin and Kat. There are major spoilers in this book so I wont mention the big reveal in this one. Kenyon has intertwined her stories so that they are all connected and relationships continue from book to book. I'm not sure if you could get the same appreciation of it if you hadn't read the other books in the series? I highly recommend you read them so you get the full impact of this one. 3 more books until Acheron! Can't wait!

We are finally given answers. It's about time. We now know who Katra is and why Ash is tied to Artemis and so forth. This book wasn't too bad. But I agree with some of the other reviews, that Ms. Kenyon's earlier books were the best. Again, another fast reading page turner novel. We are still waiting for Ash to have his HEA ending and now we are all trying to guess who the faceless lady in his dreams will turn out to be. Will she be his HEA? So the saga still continues.
If you're hooked into the series then of coarse this is a must read. First times readers should start with her earlier novels.

I bought this book on audio (CD) Saturday, August 4, 2007. I couldn't wait to get into this story. My usual pattern is to buy the book and begin reading right away. Hearing the story read in audio allows for multitasking., on my part. Well, Well, I must say, I couldn't complete any thing quick enough because I would stop to review each time something was said (read) that blew my mind!. BELIEVE ME, YOU WILL ENJOY THIS CONTINUING STORY...Choose your own way to enjoy Sin's Story. I have to say, this has to be one of the best dark hunter books, to date. This book is truly a "breath of fresh air" as compared to the storyline, thus far. Sin, the main character, reminds me of a Michael Correleone (his character is a Samarian God who has been tricked into loosing his powers by none other than the Heifer Goddess centuries ago). He runs his own Casino, but is constantly seeking ways to get Artie. He's deadly, angry, funny, and really a really nice guy, once you get to know him. He has Artie spooked and Ach doesn't seem to care,....Soooo, along comes Katra, who as a favor to Artie plans to terminate this Dark Hunter. And this boys and girls is where everything gets really, really, interesting. Sin is a different, kind of Hunter. He is a loner, and some think pycho. However, he is rough, tough, take no prisoners, likable, lovable, and sexy as hell, to boot. This story worth the money and the wait. Each page or chapter brings enlightenment. Many, MANY, facts come to gether, and I found emotional highs and lows to be very insightful. One will understand the past transgressions and heartaches, but also, get clarity on some relationships. READ THIS BOOK......IT WILL OPEN YOUR EYES AND KEEP YOU INVOLVED IN THIS CONTINUING SAGA...." Just get this book, TODAY.

This is the best Dark Hunter novel so far! If you haven't read all the previous books in the series, you may not enjoy or understand this one so well. For those avid readers of the series, this book packs a punch! Sin is a former Sumerian God who lost his powers to Artemis. There is still some tension there! He meets Katra, who was first introduced in Kiss of the Night. The two have to battle a series of Sumerian demons who are able to turn humans to demonic minions by biting them. Along the way we learn that there is a past between Katra and Acheron (the Dark Hunter leader) that is quite a surprise! This is a fast-paced and exciting book. This is one of those pivotal books in a series where you learn so much about the characters, and even more questions are posed. The best Dark Hunter yet!

I am an avid reader of the Dark-Hunter novels and actually this was my first one, I just so happened to purchase it when I was looking for something interesting in the clearance bin. I like the book instantly and the style of writing which made me purchase the rest of the novels. I have to say most of the other novels are much more action packed and interesting but the romance is getting to be the same; boy meets girls, boy sleeps with girl, they fight a big danger, save the world, and live happily ever after, the only bright side to this is the pending showdown that will come with Nick. I will still read the novels and hopefully they will get better.

I love to read Kenyon and always look forward to her books being published. However, I was very disapointed in this book. It gave many answers to questions that needed to be answered, but it was boring and didn't live up to the Kenyon reputation for excellence. If you love the Dark-Hunter series and want to continue I would suggest reading this book to learn answers about the characters and learn information that you may need to know to continue following the series. If you haven't been following the series and don't know the story line, you will be lost and feel that you have wasted your time.

The Darkhunter series has been an "up and down" reading experience for me and I found this one to be simply average. It is difficult for an author to maintain the tension and excitement from the first part of a series, especially when so many books are produced so quickly. This book does reveal more about the fictional pantheon that SK has developed. I liked all the parts with Simi and Ash, but neither Sin nor Katra were very compelling. A lot of the dialogue was stilted and the constant sarcasm was redundant.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is Back and she's fantastic! Devil May Cry has everything that Kenyon's eariler books had. I, like others, was concerned when her last few books seemed to be missing something. But NOT this one! Katra and Sin are fantastic together. More than that, certain big secrets are revealed about Katra, Ash, Appollmi and Simi. That's right Simi..is back and funnier than ever. This book is a MUST HAVE if you've been reading the series since is uncovers a lot of information and gives flashback into the past. It also uncovers unholy alliances not to mention some serious hot looking bigger baddies than before. DMC has you wanting more and it great as we still have to wait for Ash's story!

Sin, an ancient Sumerian God of the moon is tricked by Artemis and lost his powers. He has a major grudge against her ever since. Enter Katra, Artemis's illegitimate daughter. Misled by her mother to believe Sin is evil, Katra decides to attack Sin, only to discover he is not the nasty baddie mommy dearest made him out to be. Instead he is an extremely hot fertility god. Sin and Katra hook up. Together they decide to rescue Sin's twin brother and stop a demonic invasion. Can their love survive a secret in Kat's past and the demonic horde they are both striving to fight?
I liked elements of this story. contrary to how he was portrayed, I didn't find Sin to be that hot. He seemed like a big sulky baby half the time. I know he lost his powers. I know it was Artemis who betrayed him, but I really wanted him man up and stop complaining. Watching a grown man rant and rave about revenge against a woman just was off putting.. Likewise, I found Kat to be a bit of a Mary Sue. She didn't have much personality, except for loving the unlovable- her hopelessly flawed mother. Even Kat's big secret was sort of contrived. I found it difficult to believe that Sin would hold it against her considering what he knows of Artie and how she manipulates people.
Since Sin was a Sumerian, I was hoping to see a bit of detail about his background and culture. Instead Sin had fully adapted to modern life (well, aside from wearing leather pants), so he could be any mix-and-match dark hunter. The sex scenes were really flat. Especially the scene where Kat loses her virginity. Very cookie cutter.
Overall, an Ok read, but nothing to get me too excited.

I've loved this series and the author for years and from the start, I wanted desperately to give the book 5 stars. But I cannot.
I really like the wounded yet strong male characters and I like the heroines that don't seem to fit the TSTL (too stupid to live) stereotype that I hate reading. However, since this book seems to focus so little on the hero and heroine, I'm going to take one star away. I started reading this series initially because they were the paranormal romance genre that I enjoy. Well, the paranormal is still there, but the romance? Meh. Not so much. Down to 4 stars now.
Thinking about the plot, I was delighted to have some questions answered. I dislike series that keep me hanging forever wondering if and when I'll ever get the answer to the questions. I'm glad that the author seemed to answer some big ones and didn't keep stringing me along. However, I feel like I need to bring out a scorecard and start jotting notes for the amount of characters that are introduced and/or forgotten about. It's getting harder and harder to figure out who's on whose side and who's whose enemy and what god is what or who and what powers they have and who their child is and ... ?? Ah, what's it matter anyway? No need to keep the gods and characters straight because, if needed, Ash or some new character, who seems to come out of nowhere, will either have that required power or not.
That brings me to another point. I miss the Dark-Hunters. Where did they go? Will they ever come back? It just seems to me that Ms. Kenyon has let go of the part of the series which made it so wonderful to begin with. At least this book was more satisfying than the last 2 or 3 in the series, but I still feel like I need to take a star away simply because the amount and type of characters just aren't as endearing as they used to be. There are too many that are just too powerful. I want the characters that feel real somehow, complete with weaknesses and believable faults and have the story focus on their romance.
Leaving my rating at 3 stars seems fair somehow. I like the author's style of writing. It's not too flowery and not what I like to call "romance novel cheesy". I still feel a fondness for the characters like Ash, and even Artie, and I liked having some questions answered. I enjoyed the action in the story and didn't find any of it particularly gross or violent. I really liked the conversation and interaction between Ash and Katra, especially where he was sharing his `lessons' with her and explained some of his philosophy on fate and free will. Although they weren't focused on nearly enough for my tastes, I did like Sin and Katra as the main characters and I cared about how they ended up.
I guess I can say that taken on it's own, this book is about average, but comparing it to the earlier books in the series, this book falls short.
I'm still a huge fan of the author and I still love the series. I will still buy the next book that comes out. My hope is that the volume of characters and gods and their "do anything" powers will decrease. I hope the romance aspect of the series returns as the main focus. And I hope to read about more plain, old Dark-Hunters again someday.

It took 11 novels, but we finally get to understand Ash. Why is he tied to Artemis? Who is Katra and how is she connected to Ash and Artemis? I must admit it was worth the wait and it was not what I was expecting.
You'll be happy to know Simmi is back in this one. I just love that character, she cracks me up (especially with her bar-be-que sauce). I won't say more, because I would hate to ruin the plot. I will say it was great and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Holter Graham is wonderful as the reader of this book. He gets 5 stars from me. The book has already been reviewed here so my comments are on the performance. The reader is 50% of an audiobook. The story is the other 50%. A reader can make or break whether a book will make it in audio form. This one is wonderful! He does all the character voices, and there are a lot of them! I truly enjoyed listening to this book and would recommend it to any of you that love audiobooks.

This was great!! I would highly recommend it to anyone who is into the Dark-Hunter series. It will explain alot to you about Acheron and his past; so if you love Ash as much as I do, this book is definitely for you. I would recommend any of the Dark-Hunter series. Although they aren't needed to read this book to understand it, it refers to situations that have happened in other books. You won't get confused if you haven't read the others, but if you have read them, then references made will be better understood. I always look forward to Sherrilyn's Dark Hunter series and have yet to be disappointed!

I actually really enjoyed this book; I read it in about three hours. I don't see what the other reviewers are referring to as far as the excess of violence; it is really no worse then any of her other novels. I'd bring up a few examples from Zarek, Kyrian, or Valerius' book; however I don't want to spoil anything for future readers.
Katra was a very good leading lady; I had been under the impression from the past books that she was going to get paired with Acheron, so you can imagine my surprise. This means I'm going to have to re-read Dream-Hunter to figure out who he is getting paired with.:-p
She was very funny, but sometimes her comments were less snarky and humorous and more immature; which you wouldn't expect from a 10,000 plus year old. She is well written; you can feel the difficulties she has being torn between her loyalty to Sin and her family.
Sin was great, he was a swirl of heat, bitterness, sarcasm, and cockiness. He is going on my list of one of my favorite male dark-hunter leads. While he didn't grab me as much as, say, Zarek, Vane, Kyrian, V'Aidan, Wren or Valerius, he was still a very interesting, attractive, and deep character.
I adored the secondary characters, especially Xypher and Damien. I really hope that they both get books; or at least Xypher. I am very curious about the rest of his story.... though I'd love to see my two favorite Daimons get their own books as well. (Urian and Damien)
Simi was her normal cute/hungry self, I love her interactions with her sister and Sin.
I think one of the only problems people would have with this book is if they were new to the series; I kept track of all of the new characters relatively well, but I have read every dark-hunter/dream-hunter novel written. If someone just jumped in on this one, I think they'd likely be horribly confused. It is very action packed as well. Not one you can skim pages on.
All in all, this was a great book; I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

Seriously, I don't really understand all of these low ratings. Sherrilyn Kenyon has created masterpieces. I myself had only read a few of her books, Acheron, Styxx, and the Chronicles of Nick. They all have amazing twists, and I damn wasn't dissapointed by this book. This book was outstanding, and it was mixed with the perfect amount of Fantasy to make it seem like a freaking biography on a ex-god.

It is a marvel that I can even put this book down as I am not yet finished but a person, unlike a Dark-Hunter/God/Daimon must eat food at some point. This book is amazing! There are no spoilers in this review. Prepare to read one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's best books to date. Sin is everything that you could want in a protagonist--brave, wounded, kind and loyal and Katra--let's just say that Katra is everything that Sin needs. Get out to the nearest bookstore and buy this book! This is definitely a collectible item and it's worth every pretty penny.

I absolutely love the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon! Sure, some are better than others, but no one, and I mean NO ONE can write the paranormal fantasy action packed love story, better than Ms. Kenyon!
What I'd like to know: where is Joss Whedon (creator of "Angel" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer") when you need him? This would make an awesome TV series!!
"Devil May Cry" was a 5* 1-nighter for me! And I can't wait...literally, I'm counting down the days until Aug. 5th, for Acheron's story!
Ms. Kenyon - what a beautiful mind! =)

I always like to read about Ash, but the rest of this book was sort of ho-hum. I think SK's books work better when there is a human in the mix (and preferably a female human). I don't think the tension is there when they both have all kinds of powers. It's a whole lot more romantic when the man has all this supernatural power at his fingertips and dazzles the poor human girl. It doesn't work as well when the girl is 6'4" and can beat his butt.
There was a whole lot of info in this book. It seemed like it just kept being added and added, and just kept multiplying exponentially. There wasn't a whole lot of Sin and Katra and when it was, they were going to fight, learning to fight, etc. SK is a great writer and I would love to see her focus (really focus) on just the hero and his heroine. She did this in a really good book, Fantasy Lover. But, that was many books ago. I think her reputation is such that she feels she just has to keep adding more and more to her Dark Hunter, and all her other, worlds. And, that is not always a good thing.

I'm a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor. Relatively speaking this book is a definite 5. It's certainly better than most of the stuff out there. If I only compare it to the rest of Sherri's books it's a 3 ...maybe. Maybe if I hadn't been waiting so eagerly I'd feel differently but I have to say I can live without the short stories and this felt like a really long short story if that makes sense. The romance between Kat and Sin was lacking and I still don't really know much about Sin. He could have been a great character but he got short changed for the sake of Ash. Of course when I eventually re read it (and I WILL re read it) I may change my mind. Dark Side of the Moon didn't do it for me either until the second time around. Now it's a favorite.

I enjoyed "Devil May Cry" much more than the last couple of Dark Hunter books. This book focuses on Katra, the secret daughter of Artemis, and Sin, an ancient Sumerian God who has had his powers stripped. It also gives you much more background and history of Ash and Artemis. While the book bounced back and forth between these two couples, I thought Sherrilyn Kenyon balanced them nicely, and this book has only whetted my appetite for the next book.

I think it's safe to say that Sherrilyn Kenyon has done it again. The Devil May Cry is a wicked good book and shows she is a many faceted author who is not only able to write a story with a kick, but also to write from different vantage points. With every new book Kenyon shows that she grows in her skills as a writer.
I really enjoyed reading this book and needless to say I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I waited and waited for this book. I even paid hardcover price which I never do, because I was so antsy to read this latest book. I used to LOVE Kenyon and have been really disappointed with her last couple of books. Yes, it cleared a couple of things up about Ash, but other than that...blah. The love story was so "ho-hum". There was no build up and the story line was just too lame between Kat and Sin. Where's the passion? I really felt ripped off with this book. I kept reading and reading thinking it would get better. But, alas, it was all about fighting and Ash/Artemis. And really, don't we have two books coming out in the near future to enlighten us about Ash's life? I feel like this book was put out just to drag us along until Ash's story comes out. And due to the disappointment I've experienced with the last few books, I will NOT purchase that one. I'll check it out at the library..maybe. Don't waste your money on this one.

I agree with another reviewer, in that when you read a book that is a part of a series, the whole point is to have the "questions" answered. Kat and Ash are two of those questions. No one will ever get enough of Ash.
I thought the book was a great addition to the series and in and of itself.
If you had not followed the series before, as with my first Dark Hunter Novel, it just made me go back and get the back issues and read then, and here I still am reading on.... Loved It...

I really like this series, Kenyon does a wonderful of of making her characters peel themselves from the pages and come alive. I love how she uses different mythologies and spins them into the intricate web that is the dark hunter world. That said, who the hell is screaning theses narrators???? The narrator for this book Holter Graham sounds like this is his first time reading out loud, misspronouncing simple words like "agressive " as "ager-ressive" let alone names of characters and akward pauses. I think Graham is confused as to whether he is performing a book narration or a William Shatner impresson.

Great book. I loved Sin & Kat both. Their banter and flirting was funny with plenty of action to keep the story moving. I liked the introduction of supporting characters & new enemies that helped keep the plot interesting & new. Kat is a stand out heroine that is independent and smart, it is refreshing.

After Dark Side of the Moon, I vowed never to read another Sherrilyn Kenyon book but after reading Acheron...I needed to know about Katra and her father so I read this one. It was worth buying and I would recommend it to any Sherrilyn Kenyon fan. Being biased after the disaster that befell Nick (my favorite character) my choice to not read another one of her books ever again seems a little childish now but I must say that the book where Nick kills himself I cried for weeks. The series is going in a direction that the readers will just have to sit back and see where it takes you...whether your favorite character lives or not.

Another (typical) DH novel. I quite liked the heroes, even though I think all the good deeds the hero did were a bit over the top. There wasn't as much chemistry between them as I would like. And all the sarcasm started to grate on my nerves. But anyway, this is another highly recommendable read that none of the fans should miss.

Let's face it, a lot of us are reading the Dark Hunter series these days and spending the big bucks on her hardcover books is to get more glimpse of Ash. But the more I read about him, the less interested I become in his story. In the last few books he has been reduced to nothing but a whiner at the mercy of Artemis.
The book is rich on graphic violence and gore, but very thin on plot and stingy on romance. The relationship between the main characters is mostly physical which is unfortunately expressed at the most inappropriate times. For example right after Kat and Sin find out that Sin's brother is in mortal danger at the hands of the enemy, they engage in a playful banter. I found that very disturbing.
The writing style is very simple and reads like an elementary level prose. The author does try to make up for that lack with complicated characters and some humor.

I LOVE Holter Graham as a Narrator! I'm glad he Narrates the Chronicles series. He reads the voices as I have always imagined them in my head (well most of them, the female parts sound more girlish in my head lol). And Loving the story is. Given, I LOVE all of these books!!! Instead of reading what the book doesn't give some readers I think one should be about what it does give. This book was a great one. I have read every single book of SK's Dark/Dream Hunter series, and this one is another great addition. I really like the heartwarming moments with Ash and Katra, the funny and sarcastic moments SK is known for, I got some much needed explanation for other books, and of course the relationship between Sin and Kat was intresting to see unfold.

I have read all of the Dark Hunters and while I still enjoy them, this one had me rolling my eyes more than once. The dialogue between the main characters was at times corny and at times funny. I guess it all depends on the mood Sherrilyn was in at the time a particular scene was written. The romance did not fulfill any great need for me, but overall it was an entertaining read. Frankly, a little too much information on Ash. I prefer his character to be somewhat mysterious. Kat calling him Daddy just didn't do it for me.

I was really looking forward to reading one of her books. I have even saved some of her books under my favorites so that when I did have the chance to read one I would be able to comment on it. Well after being sucked in with the Prologue; I was thinking it can only get better. I was sadly mistaken. It was poorly written and I only dreadfully reached up to page 10 after that I could not read any further.
I would rather get a root canal.

OMG I just love this book!!! It's one of my all time favorite... I'm a huge fan of the Dark-Hunter Series. Fell in love with Ash since the beginning. This is one awesome book. I read the book in less than 24 hours. I LOVE the relationship between Katra and Ash... I'm so glad he found out who she is to him. I can't wait to read more about their relationship, I hope Kenyon ties them together in other books. I was cryinging a lot, the scenes with Ash and Katra were great. I hope to see more interaction between the two in other Dark-Hunter books. I can't get enough of them... probably because Ash finally knew who she was after 11 thousand years. I want more scenes with them, to make up for the 11 thousands year Ash miss. I think I'm too into Ash character. Kenyon you are GREAT!!! I just love Katra when she calls Ash D****. I feel so happy for Ash!!!
I think this is one of my favorite books, because it focus a lot of Ash!!! OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!!
It's funny, because I was too focused on Ash and Katra to even focus on the hero Sin... This book is GREAT if you're a huge fan of Ash (and I think many of us are). It's like I want to say more about the book, but don't want to spoil it.
Now I'm dying to read about Ash and his life partner. I hope she is powerful and strong... I don't want him with a female who's weak, I hope his female is as powerful as him. That would be cool!!!
Anyways, this book is awesome... I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED it to everyone!!!

Great Dark-Hunter novel lots and lots of important information in this one book. Ash gets screwed in this just like all the others...but he does get a little piece of heaven in return.
Devil May Cry has lots of action and is full of Simi and her barbque sauce which I love. These books need more Simi she is the life of the book.
Sin is wonderful and full of unexpected twist. I am so glad that Kat remains his equal through the whole book instead of being dominated by him. This is a great read and one of the best DH novels in a long time.
I can't wait for the next one.
Want fast paced, characters you want to win and those who make you want scream...plus lots of barbque sauce Devil May Cry is the one for you.

Maybe it was because I waited so long for this book to release, or maybe I have overdone myself on the series, but for some reason this book wasn't as good as I had hope. Don't get me wrong, it was good. And it answers a lot of questions, but it didn't crab my attention and the love between the two characters happened to easily for me. I mean they were enemies, but yet they fall so easily.

Sin, an ex-Fertility Sumerian God turned Vegas casino owner, and Kat, the daughter Greek goddess Artemis come together under the strangest of circumstances. Kat has agreed to kill him. Before accomplishing this mission she is side-tracked by the Sin's role in preventing the invasion of the human world by the Dimme (superdemons). The falling in love at the end is predictable but the journey to this destination is packed with unexpected twists and turns and this makes for a very entertaining read. This book has restored my faith in Sherrilyn Kenyon. Can't wait to see what happens next with this family (Kat, Sin, Ash & Artemis).

I have really enjoyed the Dark Hunter novels until this one. I know the author is leading us up to Ash's story, and I for one am looking forward to it, but she could have done a much better job with this particular book.
One of the great things about the dark hunter series is the mystery and the questions that trail from one book to the next, leaving the reader picking up the pieces trying to put them together.
Without going into details, this story seemed to be too much of a stop-gap, fill in the blanks, answer the series questions and skimp on the story line.
All in all, I was very much disappointed.

I didn't think this installment in the series was nearly as good as previous books. Nothing to do with the plot, I just felt the author's writing wasn't as steady, for want of a better term, as it usually is. It almost seemed as though the editor(s) had told her to throw in some of the smartass hipness and sarcasm found in other books in this genre (all of which I read avidly), which hasn't been her style. So, although as an earlier reviewer stated, the book answers a lot of questions, overall I was disappointed.

I don't care what all these other people are saying, DMC was awsome! Sin, Kat, Apollymi, Zakar, Xypher, Ash, and the Charontes are wonderful! I loved the story line and yes, Sherri even said this book was gearing up for Ash's so of COURSE they're going to have more of him and his story in it. The only thing I didn't like about the book was that dumb Artemis didn't get her commeuppance yet. But she will, hopefully in Ash's book. It was a great read and I can't wait for the next installment!
The easiest thing to do is not buy the books if you dont like how she has been writing for the last 3 books. Don't buy them, simple as that.

I would have given the book 3.5 stars, but since that is not an option I rounded up. While Devil May Cry is not as good as the early Dark-hunter novels, it is much better than the terrible waste of paper that was the Dream-hunter novel. This book is a little short on the Sin-Katra romance and heavy on Ash and new bad guys. It seemed like more of a set up for Ash's books than a separate story dedicated to Sin and Katra. Since Ash is my favorite character, I enjoyed learning more about him. I'm not sure the book is worth the hardcover price, but if you can find it on sale and are a big fan of Ash, you may want to check it out.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I enjoy(ed) the other DH books. The only thing that made it for me is that it says so much about Ash, his relationship to Kata.
As for the rest, I just think that the DH make better characters than Sumerian gods.
Please, Ms Kenyon, can you finally give us a complete Ash story? I think I can only take so much drop-by-drop hints about him!!!

Ms. Kenyen wrote a few good books earlier in her career, but unfortunately, that seems to be over. Her later ones have gone downhill. This book was just bad! I am soooo surprised by all the positive reviews this book has received. Sherrilyn really focused on Acheron in this story and he's a popular character in this series. This must really be where all the positive reviews are coming from. However, the book was horrible. I agree with another reviewer when it was noted that it was really graphic. But also, and most importantly, the writing was simply awful.
I mean really! We have people who are thousands of years old who talk like teenagers. Actually, no self respecting teenager would use most of the phrases Sherrilyn used in this story. When the great and mighty Acheron started talking about Artemis using him as a "booty call," I almost threw the book across the room! It was ridiculous. And what's even worse is the obvious inconsistincies from story to story. I mean in one story, Acheron is all powerful and can do just about anything, but later stories...... he can do some things..... but he can't do others. What?! Let's see, he couldn't bond Katra to him b/c of the "sexual aspect" of a blood bond. But if I remember correctly, isn't he blood bonded to Alexion? I believe Alexion described it as Acheron "opening a vein" in a glass for him, every so often. Katra, who's been alive for thousands of years with untold of powers, gets "shivers" from watching Sin walk through a door. Uhhh...she's been alive a longggggg time. I'm sure she's seen worse. That gave her shivers?! And there were so many others noted that just drove me batty!!
I've said this before....... Sherrilyn has wayyyy too many series going on. I believe that even she has problems keeping them apart and certainly keeping in perspective what's happening from book to book. When she does write a book, she keeps adding more and more characters, forgetting about previous characters. What happened to Fang & Amy or Cael from Dark Side of the Moon? Oh I know........ she throws us bits & pieces while writing in new characters, gods, and in the case of Devil May Cry, new enemies. At this rate, she'll never wrap them up.
This book suffers from the fate of so many other long-winded series.....it's TIRED. Come on Sherrilyn!! Give up Acheron's story and just wrap the series up!!

Read DMC in 1 day .. one of the best in the series. I have been looking forward to a story about Kat and also Sin , but was not expecting them to get together. They are both great characters and make a terrific couple. I am now going to reread the whole series to see if there were hints to a couple of unexpected relationships to Ash. (Some surprises that I won't give away)You really have to read this book!!!I loved it . Sherri write faster !!!

Alright answer one thing for me. Is this Sin and Kat's book or is this Ash's? THANK GOODNESS I didn't purchase this book. I think I'm about done with it. Seriously done. Ash's book? Ha! Not even from a 75% off book store. I'm so bored of him it's not even funny. Plus you can basically already know what his story is about, how it will turn out, and who his heroine will be. So predictable.
But back to Sin, am I bitter? Of course I am. I mean seriously, I was all excited that he was going to have his own book since he was described as such a bad*** in his profile but after this book, I'm like "this is totally not the same guy!". Also not to mention these new villians and potential new dark hunter novel characters! Seriously when will it end? It's time for me to take this series off my shelf to make room for something new and non yawning.

I have to agree with DaCricket... this book was disappointing. I was extremely excited about this book, but i've had the book for about a week and i'm having a very hard time finishing it. Aside from all the things that were revealed about Ash, I think the highlight of the book is any scene that Simi is in bc her character is adorable! I'm not really feeling the romance between Sin and Katra... a lot of it just seems so forced. I've read every DH book and i feel like the farther along we get in the series, the more the books seem to be lacking.

Simply the best one yet. Devil May Cry is the book that gave many answers and deeper understanding to the Kenyon Dark-Hunter series. Not to mention adding some considerable depth to well loved and hated secondary characters. Bravo Sherrilyn, I ordered the Audiobook and LOVED it. The portrayal on audiobook was great and brought the book to a whole new level. I also liked the interview with Sherrilyn at the end. Thank you.

Got this book yesterday, finished in 5 hours.
Love it!
Sin, the ex-god of the Sumerian is out for revenge on Atermis for stealling his godhood. He ends up capturing Katra. The two Joint together to save the world from the Gallu, a new breed of evil. In between saving the world as we know it, we will find out Katra's family history. The bantering between the two main characters is typical Sherilyn Kennyon's. That's why I love reading her books. Not only it's funny but there are so many times I cried I lost count. You'll find out so much more about Acheron. I can't wait for Ashes's book to come out. After finished the book, I'm upset that I have to wait so long for the next book. If you love this series, go out and get this book ASAP. It's worth every penny I paid.

I have read DMC twice now in the same week I purchased the book. It is one of the best if not the best of her Dark Hunter series. It answers questions and have a great story. I truly enjoy reading Sherrilyn's Dark Hunter series and eagerly await her next one.

MS KENYON HAS DONE IT ONCE AGAIN, THE BOOK IS AWESOME. I READ IT IN ONE DAY. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I LOVE HER BOOKS. BRAVO, MS.KENYON, BRAVO. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS HER DEVELOP A STORY LINE WHERE ALL THE DARK HUNTERS HAVE TO COME TOGETHER TO FIGHT THE GALLU BECAUSE TOO MANY HAVE ESCAPED AND KILLING OFF MAINKIND. WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE ARTEMIS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF IT BECAUSE HER DAUGHTER GOT KILLED BY ONE OF THEM. NOW THAT WOULD REALLY BE SOMETHING TO READ, WHICH WOULD ALSO BRING OUT HER DAUGHTER'S GRANDMOTHER, THEN HER AND ARTEMIS HAVE A REAL BATTLE TO END ALL BATTLES.aNOTHER STORYLINE COULD BE ALL THE GODS AND GODESSES ALONG WITH THE DARK HUNTERS HAVE TO FIGHT THE GALLU. HOWEVER, AS LONG AS SHE KEEPS WRITING, THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.

I really loved this book and I liked the fact that I finally find out more about Ach and Kat. I always wondered about her but I never thought she was who I found out she was... I don't want to give it away so I am not going to say. Loved it and I can't wait to read Ach's book.

Ever since I read her first book Dragonswan, I have enjoyed her books so
very much. I am sad that between one to the next it takes so long. For
the ones that I could not find in the book store, I have gone on line and
ordered. To me she is a wonderful author. You get into the characters and
the story line, I can hardly put it down but force myself as then I will
have nothing else to read. I have read some more than once. So I thank
you Sherrilyn Kenyon for your imagination and able to put it on paper

This book had some interesting moments, but it was probably 50-100 pages too long...too many explanations, rationalizations, and introspections. I was ready for the ending about 2/3 of the way through the story-and not because it was that exciting.

SK produces her best Dark Hunter novel yet! Devil May Cry is rich with colorful characters. This story answered so many questions from earlier books. Ash's past, Katra's story, inter-relationship's between Gods, the Dream-Hunters, daimons, etc.
For the first time "Artie the heifer goddess" has vulnerable moments. Her character is still 100% spiteful, but now twinged with little rays of past humanity. SK introduces the first "good" Daimons. It all just gets better and better.
I felt this book was leagues above her previous books (which I loved). A 10++++

DMC is an amazing book. Lots of answers and a great story. The dynamics between Sin and Kat sizzle right off the page. Wow, it gets harder and harder to wait for the next book! Like Hanna, I'm going to have to go back and read the whole series all over again. What great fun this is. Thank you, SK!

If you are already a fan of the series I suggest you read it only so it can answer a few questions. However, I have to be honest and say that this is the worst of the series. It was a bit boring and I had to FORCE myself to finish it.

I've been following Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series right from the beginning and, at first, was avidly eating up every single book and desperate for the next one. Sad to say, I've come to the point where I think she needs to wind up the series ASAP. The books have become dull and predictable. I could tell you exactly what each hero - whether Dark-Hunter, Dream-Hunter or Were-Hunter - is going to be like and what their issues are. They're all gorgeous, they've all got massive chips on their shoulders and they can all be cured by the love of a gorgeous woman - instantly.
Sin is no exception - and, please, WHAT is with the ridiculous names? Sin? Xypher? Zakar (far too similar to Zarek)? And in this book we get Deimos and Damien and many references to Daimons; way to confuse your readers! Sin is a Sumerian ex-god, and he's every bit as whiny as the rest of Kenyon's heroes. He's apparently a Big Bad but, as with all of her characters who are introduced as Big Bads, he's really a misunderstood and hard-done-by good guy. What a surprise!
The heroine is Katra, and unfortunately I'd already been spoiled for the big reveal of Katra's place in Acheron's life because some idiot in Kenyon's publishing company thought it would be a great idea to release this title in hardback, and to release the two following it in paperback. So I read the paperbacks first and finally caught up with this one when I already knew who Kat was.
Far too much of the plot seemed hopelessly contrived. Apparently, Kat is eleven thousand years old... and still a virgin? Yeah, right. Apparently, it would be a disaster on a massive scale were Acheron to find out who Katra really is... and suddenly, two pages later, he knows and it's no big deal. Yet again, we have Acheron missing and unavailable for most of the book, because yet again he's committed to being Artemis's sex-slave and again she's made him extend his promise. That's getting TIRED as an excuse to have him unavailable to help. Also, it's a bit too late, Kenyon, to try to redeem Artemis, given the way she's been set up. If the plan is for readers to feel sorry for her so that she can be Acheron's love-interest... well, then I really will stop reading.
The relationship side of the book is barely credible. Kat and Sin meet when Kat's supposed to kill him. Within hours they're having sex. Within a day they're inseparable. Within a couple of days, apparently millennia of bitterness and enmity are set aside. Except, of course, we have the Big Communication Screwup and suddenly he hates her again. Yawn.
And then there's the Big Danger that they join forces to fight. Seriously, if I never read the words 'gallu demon' again I'll be deliriously happy. Boring. Big-time. I'm usually an avid reader. I never fall asleep reading books. I fell asleep several times reading this one.
Extremely disappointing, hot on the heels of several other disappointing books in this series. I'll give the Acheron books a chance, but if they're as bad as current set-up suggests they might be - because he's starting to look incredibly whiny and poor-me as well - that's it for me and it'll be bye-bye Kenyon.

SPOILER ALERT: What happened to the great tension in the older Dark Hunter books? The book has about a second of build up for Ash and how he'll be so out of control when he finds out he had a daughter--news kept from him for quite a long time--instead he is sappy. There isn't really any good tension between him and Artie--it's sort of become clichéd between the two. Just felt like a different writer wrote this, or Kenyon just doesn't care anymore. I think she peaked at Dance with the Devil.
The JR Ward "Brotherhood" books remind me a lot of the old Kenyon, so for now, I am looking to those.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!! Another winner in the series! LOVED the characters and LOVED that someone else finally hates Artemis as much as Simi! LOVED SIN AND DANGER! Great twist with the characters (don't want to give anything away to those who haven't read it yet). Great story and kept me going until the end and still wanted more!!

I have to say that I really liked this book. It cleared up alot of mystery around Ash. My friend and I thought that Kat was the one Ash was going to end up with...but she really surprised us. I love Ashs humor and cant wait to find out more about him. I liked Kat. She had a thing of you dont scare me and I can take care of myself attitude. LOVED her.

So Sad... The Dark Hunter Novels were the best - but now the publisher demands a book and the author gives them a book and this is the type of book you get. Large print no discriptions of anything just a bunch of words. I paid money for this book.. Right now I am done with the Dark Hunters the author has to be tired of them too..

I love the dark hunter novels, but this one did nothing much for me. It was just okay, not the author's usual great stuff. Too much Artemis (ugh) and although I really liked Sin, could not at all get into him and Katra. I did like Xipher, and Sin's twin was interesting too. I sure hope Acheron's story is better than this one.

This book made me laugh, cry, and get mad. In this book Sin (Sumerian exgod Nana) and Katra (Kat) have to try and stop the Dimme from escaping and the Gallu from setting them free. You learn much about the relationship of Acheron and Artimis in this instalment of the DH seires. The relationship Kat has with all these charicters is very moving. The sarcasim is some of Ms Kenyons best. All around good read.

each book can stand alone or carry's on the characters introduced previously and in the future stories.
The stories take us safely away from how hard we must work in our lives just to feed our families and provide shelter.
We need that, stories that get us to appreciate where we are and what we have, and take us to another time and place.
