I was disappointed in the size of the book and the quality of the book. I had purchased this book for my older Grandkids and it was in a larger book and better quality. That is what I thought I was getting. Like the book I ordered for Goodnight Moon.

Only HALF THE STORY!! Read the title closely, I just got this. It's only CHICKA CHICKA ABC (no Boom Boom)....Beware if you want the entire Chicka Chicka Boom Boom story book, this is not it. They only climb up the tree once and it's over abruptly thereafter.

This is a very condensed, watered down version of the original 1989 book. I ordered it by accident thinking it was the book that my children and I loved to read when they were young, and I am beyond disappointed. I don't know why the author would have chosen to water this book down. There is a lot more that happens to the alphabet letters in the original book, and it is just so much better. As soon as I received this, and realized my mistake, I got back on the store to purchase the original 1989 version. If you're looking to buy this - get the original version instead. It's slightly more expensive, but SO worth it.

I discovered this book from an episode on Blues Clues. My 4 y.o. memorized the book in 2 days, and my toddler loves to read the letters on the book. The rhyme is well written, and you can make the "Rhythm and beat" as fun as you want while reading it to your child. I highly recommend this book!

I had really liked the original version of this book which is meant for slightly older children. So I got this for my 14 month old daughter. She is least interested in it although she loves books and has many favorites. I didnt like it much either. There is no rhythm and the text doesnt flow very well. In fact, the last few pages just contain a bunch of alphabets thrown in as if in a hurry to finish the book. There are better books out there!

My daughter (1 y.o.) loves the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book. Unfortunately, she loves tearing at the pages even more. So we bought the board book version.
Sadly, the story cuts off half way through. This is only Part I. And, really, the more amusing stuff (Black-eyed P, for example), are in the second half.

Love the rhyme. Really holds my toddlers attention. However, I'm hesitant to show him the corresponding letters in the illustration as they often aren't displayed left to right. Not as great for early literacy as I was anticipating.

This book was recommended by a six year-old I tutor who found it hilarious. I immediately ordered it for my three year-old grandson who was equally charmed. The story is silly with a sweet rhyme and the illustrations are magical. This book is a wonderful way to teach a young child his letters because he is learning as you read by frequent repitition that little kids love.

The book is great, but this is not the whole story. This book ends with the tree falling. The story goes on after that with the mama's and papa's coming to get the "kids". It's like half of the book is missing, but my son loves it still.

This book doesn't have the whole story that I remember reading as a child. I was going to give this book to a child in my family, but I can't knowing that it's incomplete. The best parts were omitted. Grrr.

I ordered this book knowing that I liked the content, but I was very excited about the bonus shaker....my 7 month old son didn't let go of it for a day....the second time he dropped it from his high chair it broke in two, which was sad. it was very cute for the day and 1/2 that it lasted.

Have to have this book if you have a newborn. Scholastic has a really fun DVD that adds a fun carribean inspired tune to the book too. My children have LOVED this book since they were very young and still respond to it.

My 20-month old loves the chicka-chicka boom-boom part of this book and he is just starting to learn his abc's so he is fascinated with this one. We got it for him for Christmas, but we should have gotten it sooner, it's great and by far his favorite!

I wish they made the full story in a small board book but after not using the big board book I sold it and bought this abbreviated version and when my son stops tearing books I'll buy the full book in hardback. He's 21months old now and not super interested in this although he likes the "boom, boom" part.

I wish I could could give this book 2.5 stars. Half a rating because I only received half a story. SPOILER ALERT :there is no rescue mission after all the letters fall. It's literally the first half of chicka chicka boom boom so if you already own that book, you're covered. Don't waste your money

Disappointed with this book my babies love when I read them Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, I thought this book was another book in the series since the title is different unfortunately it's the same book but shortened so it ends when the whole alphabet goes up the tree at chicka chicka boom boom... Lame! Had I known that I would not have purchased this book! Just be aware if you already own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, you already have this book!

I love chicka chicka boom boom and was trying to figure out how these 2 books were different. Well it only has the 1st half of the story. I still believe kids would enjoy this book and it's great for learning the alphabet but I'm going to stick with buying chicka chicka boom boom so I get the entire story.

I requested an expedited delivery of this book for my child's 3rd Bday since she was crazily in love with the youtube versions of this book. However, the book is not complete,it does not have the last 2 pages which my little girl loves "after the alphabets fall..the sun goes down and the moon comes up ...etc." My little girl was dissapointed . The book also appears to be smaller than the version we see on the net . My mistake for not checking the dimension of the book prior to purchasing.

After reading the story to my grandson from another book, I was surprised that this board book is not the whole story. I wanted the entire story...not just a part of it. Buy this book if you want to read part of the story to your child.

I should have read the other reviews! I was very disappointed to find this was only half the book. My 2 1/2 year old grandson loves the copy we have at our house (complete story), and I wanted to get him one to take on a road trip, and then keep at home.

My son who just turned 4 had been asking for this book. His teacher reads it at preschool and has been asking me to get it. He can read the whole book by himself . Great for a baby, toddler and beginner readers. Has all the letters of alphabet in the book. I love this book!!

This "shorter" version of the book is a great first book. The sounds are rhythmic and interesting to kids who can't read or even quite understand the alphabet. As kids learn the ABCs, they can help read the book, starting with the individual characters . Once a child masters their ABCs, they can move on to the word "and", which is the most important word for humans as it ties any two or more ideas together- a very basic concept but incredibly important to a little person in developing consciousness and independent thought! The book is very repetitive with "and".
Other basic words are used to tell the main atory, which is how the letters of the alphabet are meeting up with each other. This is both an important concept for physically forming a word on paper, as well as an example to young childen of different concepts being connected together. This books is all about the word "and", and it lays it on pretty thick. But that's OK, because I am now convinced that "and" is the most important word and the logical first word to learn after the alphabet.
Very gradual and easy progression in both word and idea complexity.
I have the impression that the authors consulted a word frequency list and constrained themselves to the most commonly used words in English (except "coconut"). Exactly what you would want in a first book.
Visually, the colors are vibrant and the graphics are a minimalist. The simple nature of the illustrations clearly show the concepts without having too many distracting details.
Durability is excellent due to the thick paperboard. Ours has not gotten wet but has survived every other kind of normal abuse.
Skill level: Useful from infant into kindergarten.

As many other reviewers have said, this version of the book is incomplete compared to what you find in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. This tells just the first half of the story. Even my 1-year-old twins prefer the longer version. This version just introduces the letters once, without a very interesting story. The full version has more opportunities for me to show them the letters, exaggerate how I say "Boom boom!" and engage them in the story with the simple illustrations. Having had the book for just a few months, and with twins who are little behind on speaking, my girls can already recite a few of the words in the full version. This short version just leaves us all wanting more.
If you aren't familiar with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, I strongly suggest you pay a few more dollars and get the full version.
If you, like me, already love the full version and found this book thinking it was an additional book in the series - skip it. It's just a repeat of what you already have.

I do not see the point of this book. It is identical to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom except ones the letters fall out of the tree this book ends. So basically they took out 5 pages. Just buy the other book. If you own one you do not need the other.

For the folks complaining that this is "half of the book", please note that the original book ended without helping the "injured" letters. In the original book, the letters weren't even injured. I like the original, but of course that's just my preference. I specifically searched for the original as I'm buying this for my new grandson...thankfully it is still in print. I look forward to reading/singing this to him.

This exciting little board book introduces the alphabet to infants in a humorous game of tag, "a told b, and b told c, I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree. Whee! Said d to e f g, I'll beat you to the top of the coconut tree." The entire lowercase alphabet makes it to the top of the coconut tree and "chicka chicka boom boom," they all fall down! Colorful and eye-catching, the artwork bewitches little ones, while the sing-songy prose encourages listening and learning. Birth and up.
This book was edited from its original form to accommodate board book standards and objectives - to appeal to newborns, and very young children who are not attentive enough for the full text. "Chicka Chicka abc," is delightfully entertaining for little babies with short attention spans, who enjoy the positive interaction of cooperative play - reading. I do agree that the original edition, "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" is actually more amusing, but is in fact more appropriate for older children, 2 years and older. If you must choose between the two interpretations, purchase the original - it is a scream!

As the parent of two kids, age 2 1/2 and 9 months, who has ready this book about 8000 times, I can safely say this is a baby/toddler classic. The syncopation, the bright letters, the build up to a hysterical ending (well, if you're 2!) all add up to a great experience for a young child.
We've got two versions of the book--the board one, which ends with the letters falling out of the tree, and the regular one, which ends with a climbing up that silly tree again. Although I prefer the regular one -- "l is knotted like a tie!" -- my kids really like the version that ends with a chicka chicka boom BOOM!
Although we've not pushed learning letters on our older child, she can recognize the ones in the pictures. While it remains to be seen whether that has any effect on her academic progress, we've all had a delightful time reading together.

Seriously this is one of worst books from my child's collection. I cringe when he wants to read it. Just a money grab for whoever published it. Again, another 10 minute effort like some of Sandra Boynton's work. Gee, real imaginization to write a book where whole pages are "ABC then DEF and G".

I actually purchased this book from Barnes and Noble's web site, and it came with a matching shaker/rattle toy. The bright colors in the book and on the rattle caught my son's attention when he was only 3 months old, and now at 10 months, the rattle is his FAVORITE of all the different ones we have. He loves the shape and size, and the sound it makes when it knocks against other objects. It also complements the sing-song rhythm of the story very nicely. I was a little disappointed that the book doesn't tell the full story, but it has actually worked out better for us with him being so young. The longer version doesn't hold his attention the whole way through. I do have a copy of it though, and when he's a bit older that's the version we'll read.

There are two versions of the book. This board book edition is great for infants and up to age 2, since they are still chewing on books. However, it only tells half the story, to the point where the lowercase letters make it up the tree and fall out. The story ends there just fine and it is a good stopping place, since a board book can only be so many pages.
I was surprised to find this out when we saw the larger paperback book edition at our doc's office. The story continues with the aftermath of the fall, where the capital letters rush in to help their lowercase offspring untangle from the big pile. It is quite hilarious, with the letters sporting various slings and bandages, etc.
I would get the board book for the baby, and be ready to pick up the paperback later on. My three-year old is ready (most days) to handle the lighter, longer book. He loves taking his fridge magnet letters (which come in both upper and lowercase) to act out the story.
A great, colorful read.

My one year old son loves this book. He's always picking it up and bringing it to me to read and grins at the final "Chicka chicka boom boom!" I did also eventually buy the longer version of this book since he loves this one so much, but he doesn't seem interested in the second half, so I'll wait a bit till he's got a longer attention span.

My 15 month old son absolutely loves this book. He brings it to us to read over and over again and repeats "boom" when all of the letters fall down at the end. He also points to the letters and the coconuts to ask what they are. While the book was not a personal favorite of mine at first, once I got into reading the text with rhythm and syncopation and saw how much joy my little guy got from reading it with me, I changed my mind. My husband and I now have this book memorized. Chicka Chicka A B C is a real winner and geared perfectly to toddler "short attention span theatre"!

This is the short version of my favorite alphabet book. I would recommed getting the picture book version when children are older, but this board book is a wonderful way to introduce the alphabet! I have a 3 month old son, and he loves this book. He loves the bright illustrations and pages (I can tell from the intense staring and drooling!). It is a quick read, and takes less than 5 minutes to get through, which is perfect for his very short attention span. It introduces him to letters in a fun and bright way as well. It may not be the full version, but it's the perfect length for a baby.

This is my two-year-old's favorite book! It is very catchy and he has even begun to memorize some of it. He wants me to read it to him again and again. Sometimes he takes the book away and pretends to read it to himself. The colors are vibrant and fun, and the large alphabet illustrations catch my son's attention enough that he is beginning to recognize and name some of the letters on his own as I read the book to him.

My baby and two year old love this book and ask for us to read it over and over. It really is a fun way to introduce the ABCs and has a good rhythm that they can remember. Since the text is uppercase and the illustrated letters are in lowercase, it aids in forming the association between the two. A must have for every kids' library.

This is a fun way for kids to learn their ABC's. My mom reads this to her preschool classroom and they absolutly love it. I think it is easier to remember things when we make it fun and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom makes learning your ABC's fun.

I heard this was a great book, but it was disappointing. There's no flow to this book at all. I kind of felt like it was missing something. . . Just because it's a sturdy board book to chew on isn't a good enough reason for me!

I was worried that the book I bought would not be the full story and am glad to find that there are two books! It all makes sense now.. thanks for the reviews!

I purchased this book when my daughter was about 20 months old, and it has become a standard for bedtime reading ever since. This book is fun to read, even when it is for the 5th or 6th time in a row. I credit this book for my daughter learning to recite and identify the letters of the alphabet!

My son loves this book. We have a couple of copies so we have one for home and on the road. He got hooked on it with the Blue's Clues video Alphabet Power. He watches it all the time and has also learned how to write some of the letters.

my 2 year old loves to recite the title line. He seems to react to the letters having feeling - he is curious about the letters that cry even though there are no tears shown. It holds his attention and leaves him smiling and wanting me to read it again.

My 2 year old loves this book and we read it together in a very rythmic way - like the narrator on the "Read with Me" dvd version. But this board book has only half the story - what happened to the rest of it?

Ordered this for my grandson who was three at the time. He thinks it's great. Sings the song constantly. He is now four and reading on a first grade level. I think this book got him off to a great start and gave him a love for learning.

My daughter is only 4 months old and I have read this book to her more times than I can count. When she is fussy, all I have to say is "Chicka Chicka BOOM BOOM Will there be enough room" and it brings a smile to her face.
