A very good read, exceptional value.

This is some of the best scifi I've read in years. It's all 1950's early 60's stuff. Low tech by our standards. The robots are all wires tube and spinning wheels. no Micro chips or evan transisters. Bu it's still a good read. Get it!

I'd never heard of Mr. Dick until last year when they made s TV movie of one of his novels. I immy ordered this set and have been slowly reading them. I think he csptures human nature very well (unfortunately) in his war time scenarios and I think he's a little creepy with his insect fantasies but his writing keeps on giving. I find with most of his stories, I can figure out the ending but enjoy how he gets there anyway - hence the 4 stars.

Philip K. Dick is one of the great SciFi writers of his time. Except for the ubiquitous smoking, he predicted the future path of technological development closer than any other writer of his time. Particularly his understanding of how the artificial brain would be developed. This collection contains some of his most poignant and insightful short stories. A must read for those interested in deft, well crafted stories about an accurately projected future.

A great compilation of some of the writer's best short stories. A vibrant collection that touches on the many themes and motifs, theories and concepts in his writings. Enough to evoke interest in the vast universe (pun-intended) of his work. The book leaves you wanting to more, and if you are a fan of dystopian fiction then you will be grabbing another PKD work, soon after finishing this. I would have rated this as a 5-starrer but I gave 4 because I wanted more!

What do I like and dislike? I like the fact that it is by Philip K Dick, and I dislike the fact that there is not enough of it. I remember reading so much sf as a kid and saying that you have to go through so much dross to get to the good stuff. Well, with the megapack series it seems that only the good stuff gets through. A thoroughly good read.

These are some of the greatest short stories I've ever read. Second Variety alone had me losing sleep for a night, great atmosphere,masterful storytelling, gut wrenching conclusions. It's all here, from one of the Legendary sci-fi writers of our time. R.I.P. Phillip K Dick. You are missed.

First off the good. If you've never read Phillip K. Dick before and want to get a feel of his work, this is a good place to start. Most of the stories are interesting and you can get right into them. Unfortunately, if you've read any of the Science Fiction Megapacks put out by this publisher, then you might be disappointed with the collection. I quickly identified five stories that had already been published in the above series. They are BEYOND LIES THE WUB, THE CRYSTAL CRYPT, THE GUN, THE HANGING STRANGER, HE SKULL, and MR. SPACESHIP. All are great stories, and I might say amongst the best in the collection however I was disappointed that the publisher decided to recycle these to fill out the collection.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. Besides the stories above I enjoyed EXHIBIT PIECE, SECOND VARIETY (which became the movie Screamers), THE EYES HAVE IT (short but humorous), and THE SKULL.

So for those thinking of buying this book, there is some good in the collection and some bad. If you don't mind that a third of the collection is rehashed from other collections, go for it. If you do...pick something else. Your choice. I still enjoyed reading it.

Have been a fan since reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ages ago. There is a Gnostic quality to Dick's writing, and Gnosticism was an interest of his. He was a master of plot twists with surprising and yet inevitable endings. A bit of a libertarian, he was definitely a visionary, and it is no wonder that so many of his works have been adapted for the screen. There is not a single story in this collection that I don't like. A favorite perhaps is The Variable Man. It speaks to themes that were dear to PKD: individualism and courage. In his own way Duck was a philosopher.

Philip K. Dick was a visionary in his time and he defined so many of the classic SciFi conventions in terms of what the future would look like. Because he wrote back in the 50's and 60's there many things we today would recognize as being highly improbable, like native trees and plants on moons and asteroids, but if we forgive him that his stories are fill with excellent situations and questions that we as humans will likely have to answer as we continue to evolve. He does an excellent job with exploring the impacts of human warfare and how the very machines we make to destroy each other can destroy us all or save us!

I have yet to read a short story by P.K. Dick that hasn't been thought provoking and enjoyable.

If you haven't read any Philip K Dick then this is the time to start. These clever works will remind you of classic Twilight Zone and really make you think. Get caught up in fun stories that have inspired many great movies!

This is a collection of short stories by a classic SF author. Writing in the 1950's his vision of the future is unintentionally humorous to today's reader given today's technology. Russia is the villain in many of the stories, and everyone is Dick's future smokes, everywhere (imagine that). A fun read.

Philip Dick is a plot twist master. Is writing reminds Isaac Asimov: clever and objective.
Many of his tales are about nuclear apocalypse, but Henrique manages to create different stories with the same background.

All of these stories are in the Public Domain and available for free on Project Gutenberg, and also separately available in free Kindle editions. This is the purpose of the Public Domain - allowing society at large to take ownership of the content after a set time - but I see no point paying for a digital version which does nothing to ADD VALUE.

That said, I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading PKD. Definitely give these stories a read, whether you pay or not. As a huge PKD fan I enjoy reading all I can get a hold of. His short stories vary in quality and span many years of his career so if you're new to his work keep in mind that some of these stories are very weak but shouldn't discourage you from reading further and exploring his better work.
