I love this series. With the new release Archangels Shadow I went back and read the entire series again. This book is the second in a continuing storyline and was just as enjoyable this time around as the first time. If you love urban fantasy this series is a must read.

This new series by Ms. Singh is her best yet. I am a big fan of her Psy series, but what you get with this new series is a deeper link to the characters. You are allowed to explore further the developing relationship between Elena and Rapheal and I love that it is not all hearts and flowers. They are struggling to find their way and are both extremely strong personalties! I cannot wait for the next book to see what becomes of then when they are back in the real world! It promises to be a bumpy but highly enjoyable ride.

Nalini Singh is a new author to me. I am thrilled with her Archangel series. She keeps the reader involved with her characters, so that you can't wait to read the next book to see what kind of trouble a newly made angel can get into. You will love the series.

This was just a little better than the first book. I loved how everything picked up right where it left off from the first book (you have to read it first - Angels' Blood). I can't wait for the next book.

I do love Singh's angel books: a great twist on the new genre of angel novels and the tired trope of vampires. The setting is fabulous, and I am rooting for Raphael and Elena all the way! They really deserve a good relationship with one another.

One issue I had, though, was the contrast between sex and PTSD. It seemed that the mystery faded into the background while Elena either agonized about the psycho vampire who killed her family or rolled around on the bed with Raphael. I'm glad she got to kill the bastard at the end of the book, but it seemed just a bit anticlimactic.

Also, Elena's own trauma fades when EVERY character has a traumatic past. There's Raphael's issues with his mother, Michaela's implied grief over her child, and it's hinted that ALL the other characters have nightmarish histories. A bit of PTSD is good; it addes humanity and depth to the characters, and addes depth to the plot. But it only works in small doses: when EVERYONE has it, it becomes stale and boring. Why can't someone at least have grown up normally?

Also, there's the sex, sex, sex! I get it, it's a romance novel, but too much sex can really clog the plot. Not to mention that it seemed that Elena just distracted herself with Raphael's gorgeous bod instead whenever she felt the PTSD instead of working through her issues. (Though, really, that's probably realistic.)

I am so happy that I discovered this series from Nalini. Her writing style is very fluid, the stories don't drag, and her heroes and heroines have strong, intelligent personalities. I have read the entire series and I can't wait until Sept 2013 when the next one is released.

Archangel's Kiss kept me turning page after page. I love the way Nalini Singh continues to develop and deepen the characters of Raphael and Elena, exploring depths of strength and love and desire that will leave you weak at the knees.

Nalini has not put a foot wrong in these books. I got to the end of this book and wanted more. I was not ready to get out of this world. I wanted more and I still do. Amazing, phenomenal storytelling at its finest. Please, never stop with your artistic play of words that paints a canvas so clear.

When I started this series, I didn't think that I would be interested in the second book. It seemed a bit hokey, but by the time I got a few chapters in it had me hooked. I wanted to find out more about the developing characters so I purchased the second book and was very pleased with the way the story unwound. I would recommend this book to a friend.

I only read this book because I finished the BDB series and didn't have anything else to read. I picked up the first one and could not put them down! I have read this entire series and am eagerly awaiting the next one.

I am 50% done with this book, and I honestly don't know if I am going to finish. How many times do Elena and Raphael have to repeat the same old thing over and over again. I am just so bored with Elena constantly reliving her childhood nightmare, and Raphael going from a good mood to a bad mood, then a bad mood to a good mood. Basically very little has happened so far "action" wise, unless you enjoy reading about a vampire being beat up beyond recognition and a little angel boy getting kidnapped and beat up. I loved Angels' Blood, but this second book is such a disappointment; so much so that I felt compelled to write this review in the middle of the book. I want to like the book, but I every time I read 10 more pages I feel like I read the same thing two chapters ago, and two chapters before that, and two chapters before that etc. I keep asking WHEN IS SOMETHING, ANYTHING, NEW EVER GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THIS BOOK!!!!!! The only reason I gave it two stars is becasue I like the author.

I tried to give this author another chance and I was just as disappointed with this second book, as I was with the first one. Maybe even more so for round 2. There was once again lots of attempts to be mysterious and build up suspense with the plot but the half explanations have gotten really old for me by book 2. The main character could be killed many times over and I sort of just never really cared. There's a huge build up to a big bad angel and stalking being done on the main character and then the final showdown is just very flat.

Then came Archangel's Kiss, and I loved it. The relationship between Raphael and Elena has developed more and more, and I love their characters. I love Ms. Singh's use of words in describing their feelings for each other. I will continue to read more of this series

I still love this book and the whole series. I don't know how Nalini Singh does it but she always sucks me into this amazing world, where angels fight for a life of (mostly) peace and amazing adventures. I love Raphael and Elena, they are one of my all time fav characters and couples. They simply know how to capture my attention with how the balance out their relationship and how they work together as a team. Also the secondary characters are to die for. Especially Bluebell, Sarah and even Dimitri. I'm such a huge fan of this author and the worlds she creates. This sequel picks up right where the first book ended. The plot and twists are perfect, the action, romance, depth and so much more, just awesome!

I didn't want to read this second story because I simply don't have enough time for other books that I need to read, but dang, it's just really such a good story that I cannot stop reading it. And you know how it is, you say that you will then finish this second book but the reality is that I'm already reading the third book and it's driving me insane, I'm so weak when it comes to this series. *sigh*

But that only means it's awesome! And every PNR fan should read it!

Loved loved loved this!!!!! I listened to this through Audible and I couldn't get enough!!!!! So much excitement and thrilling adventure, never knowing what disaster is going to come in the next moment in a dangerous world with enemies around every corner! Loved it!!!!!

I loved this storyline and no loved learning about the characters even more!!! A Hunter turned Angel…. Never anything that has happened before so so many unknowns and what ifs. Elena is so inspiring in my eyes, she overcomes all adversity, she is always able to put on a strong front even if she is falling apart inside, she has been through so much and that really does continue throughout this story but she is able to beat it as well as all the new challenges of being a new Angel!!! Raphael is just an amazing character to read about and I love seeing the more human aspect of him, a softness he has at times although he will always be that strong and fearless Archangel.

Brilliant book and I can't wait for the next one, definitely a series would highly recommend!!!!

Oh my gosh, it's so entertaining! It's difficult to write a book review without leaving any spoilers, but I'll do my best.

Characters: Elena is a great character. She's feisty, determined, and in no way does she let Raphael dictate how she lives her life. Despite the fact that he is an EXTREMELY powerful archangel who could probably break her with a thought. I love the fact that even though she's been changed, she jumps right into fitting her new circumstances into maintaining her status as a Guild Hunter. Her past continues her haunt her, but I really enjoy how the author reveals pieces of her past that shaped her in small increments. Raphael, I think, shows the greatest character development but that could be due to the fact that he shows the greatest changes. He still maintains a powerful presence, but you get to see how the relationship with Elena has affected him. Dmitri, Illium, Jason and others all still play a massive presence in this story. I'm really hoping that at some point they get their own books!

Plot: Could this story get any crazier? Between changing to an angel, falling for an archangel, dealing with her family (oh my geez!) and then the potential threat that Lijuan presents...it's chaos! But while at a glance it all seems as if there is just too much going on, somehow the author is able to incorporate it all in a meaningful (no useless plot lines here!) and well meshed manner. It really all comes together in just a really awesome story!

Writing: Nalini Singh is a fantastic author. The way she describes her characters and their surroundings, it sucks you right into the story and it won't let you go! Whenever I start a new book by her, I have to make sure it's early enough that I can finish it, because once I start I won't put it down until the book is finished! Everything just flows so well, it's really a joy to pickup these books!

4.5 Stars... A world of beauty, deceit, wonder, and intrigue; A world where archangels, angels, humans, and vampires collide; A world where humanity is lost and power reigns... Learning to thrive in such a world while maintaining an essence of one's true self is the test Elena Devereaux must pass in order to survive...Thrust into the epicenter of a tumultuous storm, Elena must unite all aspects of herself: Human, Hunter, and Angel in order to find her place among the most powerful... Once again, Nalini Singh gives us a story of such complexity and contradiction set in a unique and captivating world that I wanted to remain immersed forever; an intense ride from start to finish; absolutely loved every word:)

I was pretty disappointed with Elena in book one but my verdict at the end of it was that hopefully Elena's multiple personality disorder kinks had worked itself out because it seemed like Elena and Raphael were going to be a couple at the end of the book. Because of this I decided to continue onto book two but boy I really struggled to finish this book and my biggest complaint is that I quite simply, hate Elena and I don't see a single thing about Elena and Raphael's relationship that is sexy, endearing, genuine, romantic...(insert positive relationship adjective here).

Sometimes it seems like they care about each other and the the next minute it's classic narcisistic power struggle. One minute she fears him, the next she KNOWS he'll never hurt her. It's just schizophrenic and poorly done. The thing is, I love the secondary characters, the overarching storyline and the world that Singh has created that it's crushing to me how much the book's main relationship/romance (and I use the term romance in the very shallowest of senses here) cheapens this story.

In the end, this story has been killed for me by the main character and I'm having to call it quits on this series. I'm pretty sure this is not a YA book so I have two words for you Elena.... Grow. Up.

~ 4.5 Archangel’s Kiss Stars ~

Archangel’s Kiss is book two in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh.

Outstanding! Wow! Loved it!

I’m in love with this series and can't get enough. I keep devoured the books from beginning to end. I couldn’t put this novel down. The characters are interesting and deep, the world is unique, and the action is outstanding.

Archangel’s Kiss follows Raphael and Elena who is a newly Made angel. This book focuses on Elena and Raphael's relationship and the romance that is building between them. They must learn to trust each other on a deeper level. Raphael is the Archangel of New York. He’s powerful and controlling. Elena is no cowered and won’t let anyone control her, so for things to work between them they have to find that middle ground. This novel takes the time needed for these two to really develop their relationship.

Of course that is not all that goes on. Elena is newly Made and must develop her skills again, become stronger, and deal with her past. We are also treated to glimpses of Raphael’s past and appearances from other amazing characters too, that just pull you in and make you want to know more about them. I’ll admit, I can’t wait to read Dmitri, Venom, Naasir, Galen and IIllium’s stores. They draw you too them and each has their own past, secrets, and issues to deal with.

Archangel’s Kiss was another amazing read in the Guild Hunter series. We are treated to amazing characters who end up growing/developing, along with loads of action and all at a nice pace for the story.

We pick up shortly where we left off in ANGEL’S BLOOD. Raphael gave his Elena immortality in order to save her life. Her transformation is nothing that has ever been seen in recorded existence. While Elena is considered a baby in immortal terms, Raphael’s enemies would like nothing more than to destroy his happiness by killing her. Not wanting to be a weakness to Raphael, Elena throws herself into training and getting used to her new body.

Thankfully, Elena’s hunter born tracking abilities stayed with her after the transformation. They are needed here. A series of unfortunate events have been staged in order to create dissention between the archangels. With a seat open in the Cadre of Ten, some nefarious, power hungry beings are playing a deadly game.

If that wasn’t enough, Lijuan—a batsh*t crazy archangel with some super scary abilities—is throwing a ball in Elena’s honor to welcome her into the immortal world. To decline such an invitation would be unwise. Everything comes to a head at the ball and you definitely don’t want to miss this explosive second installment to the series!

The brilliance of Nalini Singh always amazes me. Her stories are finely crafted with engaging plots and extraordinarily complex characters! I loved reading about Elena’s transformation and I admire the strength she possessed. Despite the past she still suffers from and her current status as a weak, baby immortal, Elena’s determination is off the charts. I want to be Elena!

I also love the shift of background in the book. The story is set at the Refuge, a safe, hidden land where younger immortals are protected. We also get page time with the rest of Raphael’s Seven, including Galen, Aodhan and Naasir.

There is nothing about the story that I didn’t like. I can’t recommend this series enough!

Elena is hunter-born but now also angel-made. Besides needing to physically get stronger and learn how to use her new wings, she also needs to learn how to be an angel in mind. There was more build up than crazy action and I enjoyed that. Just because Elena is now an immortal, doesn't mean she's instantly amazing. I loved the intimacy between Raphael & Elena. It's more than just sexual, though that was steamy enough! Elena's mind is opening more up to her and we get more visuals into her past. Creepy, but I can't wait to get that whole story.

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

archangels-kiss-guild-hunter-nalini-singhElena has recently awakened from her coma after that terrible fight that left her broken and unconscious. She has now awoken as an angel, one created by Raphael’s love. Now there are those out there even in the refuge he’s been keeping her at that would like nothing better than to harm Elena, as a way to get to him. She is his biggest weakness.

There have been several brutal attacks orchestrated to bait the Archangels against one another. And, the threat to Elena is clear with the use of guild daggers being embedded in victims and even in places that Elena frequents. But Raphael will do anything to protect her.

But the biggest threat of all comes via an invitation to a ball being thrown in Elena’s honor. Hosted by the ancient Archangel, Lijuan, who isn’t exactly sane anymore. She is known to feed her guests to her pets, the reborn she has brought back to life. Raphael sees it as the threat that it is, but knows they cannot show any signs of weakness. Therefore, they must attend. Now Raphael and his seven are in a deadline to get Elena strong enough to fly and defend herself with her new body before the ball is upon them.

There were parts of this book that I liked, and others that I really didn’t. It left me just liking this book, not really loving it, but not hating it either, but somewhere in between. Being a Singh book, I was disappointed overall.

I of course loved Elena and Raphael. But sometimes he annoys me with his holier than thou attitude toward Elena, you’re my mate now and you have to deal with me kind of orders. I do enjoy that she fights back, standing up for herself. And, yes I’m aware that Elena isn’t the only one that has had changes in her life and that it will be an adjustment for Raphael as well, and that he will have to learn to be less domineering in time. I do like to see his protective side though, which we saw plenty of in this book.

The day to day life in the refuge got a bit mundane in this book, leaving me feeling like I was playing a game of Sims, and the same thing was happening over and over again: training, Raphael teasing Elena and telling her she isn’t strong enough for him, her taking a shower/bath, going to bed, and Elena’s nightmares.

Needless to say, I was glad when the ball was upon us for some action and something different. But it really wasn’t that exciting to me.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did so I’m just hoping the series improves from here. I did enjoy book one, Angels’ Blood better so I know the Guild Hunter series has the potential to be great!

In this second installment to her Guild Hunter series, Nalini Singh proves again, without any seeming effort from her part (because she’s just awesome that way), that she’s a force to be reckoned with when it comes to paranormal romance. Archangel’s Kiss, like her other works, is still beautifully written, with compelling characters, and a plot filled with great doses of mystery, suspense, action, and romance.

Elena Deveraux has woken after a year-long sleep a transformed being, specifically an Angel-Made, the first in living history. And she must learn to adapt to this new kind of existence, first and foremost how to live with wings but most important of all, how to live with Raphael, the Archangel of New York and her lover.

This latest book has several running plot threads in it. Aside from Elena learning how to strengthen herself now that she’s an immortal, albeit still a weak one compared to the others, there is also the cases of attacks to those who look to Raphael for protection and the acts seemingly done to threaten Elena’s existence. Then there’s the invitation to a ball from no other than the most ancient of ancient beings, Lijuan, another archangel, whose rumors of de-evolution and deadly army are causing riptides all around.

But I think my favorite out of all the plot is the development still of the relationship between the Guild Hunter and her Archangel. Some things have already been established by the end of the first book but I really love how Nalini just keeps giving and giving her readers more to think about, more to absorb, more to obsess about these two beings. There is a lot at stake about what’s been done, especially by how Raphael has made Elena into an angel, and of course the consequences of such an action. But because Raphael and Elena are such compelling and complex characters, I was just as eager to read more about how they will adapt to their new realities. The chemistry is pretty much still there, ever present. But the events of Book 1 have given more depth and stronger gravity to their relationship and their interactions. Given that such a story thread is being done by no less than Nalini Singh, I know it’s in good hands.

Not quite as good as the previous novel, but still well deserving of 5 stars.

Along with a change of venue in this installment, there is also more interaction between many of the archangels and angels that were just mentioned in the previous book. This story takes place in the Refuge, a place only known to angels, archangels, and their vampires. Elena is growing stronger since her transformation, albeit slowly, but she's going to need all the strength she can muster if she is survive the ball given by Zhou Lijuan.

Zhou Lijuan is definitely a force to be reckoned with. While she is deserving of reverence from her fellow archangels and angels since she is the only ancient remaining, she also elicits quite a bit of fear from anyone who knows her. With age comes madness, and Lijuan is a shining example of that. Not only are the archangels wary of her (and for good reason because she is truly off her rocker), but she also reminds them of what they quite possibly could become if ever they make it to the status of ancient. Power, along with status and old age, is a heady combination which can drive even the most 'human' of angels into what Lijuan has become. Raphael is the archangel who is the most concerned with this now that he has Elena by his side.

Despite being in a place called the Refuge, Elena still isn't safe. Many of the archangels and their vampire still disapprove of her making. Disapprove in archangel speak really translates to "we will gut you". Elena is being threatened once again, and luckily she still retains some of her hunter-born traits after the transformation because they come in handy during the hunt.

As was the case with the previous book, their are hordes of characters to keep track of. Not only the characters, but also their formation/tier and where they fit in; the Cadre of Ten, Raphael's Seven, a mass of angels without any ranking, and then you have each archangel with their own security team which is similar to Raphael's Seven. I will admit, it is quite a challenge to keep everyone straight at times. My favorites from the previous book definitely didn't disappoint - Dimitri and Illium, and they still remain my favorites. We were also introduced to several angelic children, and they were as you would expect angels to be - sweet and innocent. Although given time, I'm sure they will grow and transform into the dangerous and deadly angels of Singh's creation.

Definitely looking forward to the next one, and I'm hoping Nalini takes us back to Manhattan. While I like the angelic stomping grounds, I want to see Elena in her new form in the territory she is most familiar with.

Archangel's Kiss picks off right where Angels' Blood left off, in the angels' secret city, the Refuge (and where exactly *is* the Refuge geographically? I don't think Singh ever says). Elena the Guild Hunter is now a brand-new baby angel, deep in the thick of angel and vampire territory, protected from her many overt and concealed enemies by her lover, the archangel Raphael.

The book follows two mystery/suspense-style plots. One: A spree of deadly violence in the Refuge indicates some angel has his or her eye on becoming an archangel--and killing Elena. Two: All evidence points to the oldest of the archangels, Lijuan, becoming more and more enthralled with her ability to raise the dead as "Remade," zombie-like creatures, and less concerned with who in her domain falls prey to the undead flesh-eaters. On top of that, Lijuan's invited Elena and Raphael to a ball in the heart of her territory.

Sounds pretty good, right? Unfortunately, Singh develops each plot in fits and starts that make them each lose tension as attention is paid to the other, with scenes that feel like they should be big, tense, emotional payoff points coming across as confusing or flat. At several points in the novel, I wasn't sure exactly what had happened, though the text indicated I should know from previous events or dialogues (for instance, what *is* up with that box? The one with the corpses. What did it tell Elena Raphael did? I have a few theories, but the text said I shouldn't just have theories--I should know). At other points, Singh fails to describe key objects, leaving me with a visual gap in my understanding of the scene (if you've read it, think: the necklace). And, as in the previous novel, the scale of destruction in major confrontation scenes is described as *much* greater afterwards than it feels like it would be as I read the scene. Overall, too much happens too fast and with too little clarity throughout the novel. Revelations and confrontations I was looking forward to passed by in the blink of a few pages, without me feeling much of anything.

I'm hoping Archangel's Consort will stick to one plot and that Singh's pacing and description will hold together better. All of the flaws of Archangel's Kiss were present in Angels' Blood, but not to the same distracting level. Maybe Archangel's Consort will read more like Angels' Blood.

(In other notes--I was hoping for a queer couple or two, if only in the background, at some point. No luck! The world feels very het. And all of Raphael's Seven prove to be men--they're finally all revealed in this novel. I was hoping at least one would be a kickass lady angel or vamp.)

Archangel's Kiss is the second installment in the Guild Hunter Series written by Nalini Singh. I fell in love with the first book Angels' Blood and I knew immediately I would be continuing the series. Archangel's Kiss didn't quite enthrall me as much as the first book but it was still pretty amazing. I enjoy seeing Elena and Raphael's relationship mature and also it is very interesting to follow all the political agendas that have developed as a result of Elena's change. I am very curious about Elena's nightmares and wondering if there is something more to them than just childhood memories. I enjoy the characters and world that Ms. Singh has developed and I can't wait to read more of this series!

The Guild Hunter series includes the following installments as of June 2014:
#0.4-Angels' Dance
#0.5-Angels' Judgment
#0.6-Angels' Pawn
#1-Angels' Blood
#2-Archangel's Kiss
#2.5-Weapons Training
#3-Archangel's Consort
#3.5-Angel's Wolf
#4-Archangel's Blade
#5-Archangel's Storm
#5.5-Knives and Sheaths
#6-Archangel's Legion
#6.5-Zoe's Workshop
#7-Archangel's Shadows (not yet released)

My favorite quote:
“Do you think you have the right to give me orders now?" The Archangel of New York, a creature so lethal that part of her feared him even now, lifted the hair off her nape, brushed his lips across her skin. "Of course. You are mine." No hint of humor, nothing but stark possession. "I don't think you've quite got the hang of this true love thing.”

This is the second book in the Guild Hunter Series, picking up the day after the ending of the first book. In it we follow Elena as she learns how to be an angel, including tricky things like actually learning to use her wings. Her learning gets accelerated when Lijuan, another archangel decides to throw a ball, supposedly in Elena's honor.

I'll admit, the plot to the book is pretty thin - there's two major lines, one being an angel that for some reason is killing and intimidating with the idea that this will help them become an archangel to replace the one killed in book two. Everyone seems to know this, but it was never explained to me fully why they would think that was how one becomes an archangel. The second line was the looming confrontation with Lijuan over her making "reborn" (zombies). However, while there was some investigation into the first story line and lots of fretting over the second, there wasn't really any plot progression.

Instead the book was filled with Elena in weapons training, Elena leaning angelic culture, Elena learning to fly, Elena having flashbacks to her childhood and Elena coaxing Raphael to start sleeping with her again. Raphael was rather annoying at the beginning of the book - filled with manly, "I can't sleep with you until your stronger because what I was will hurt you". Bleh. He was also rather off putting with his initial refusal to accept that Elena would have to be an equal in their relationship. However, this at least fit in with angels as they are portrayed in the series, and Elena wears him down over the course of the book, so that by the end he's much more reasonable. Basically, she's helping him become more human over the course of the book.

The flashback to Elena's childhood got annoying as well, as they happened some much. However, each time we got a bit further into the memories, so in the end it was alright. I wish we could have gotten more in each flashback and thus fewer flashbacks though.

The ending was a disappointment - both plot lines get tied up very neatly and very quickly with not nearly as much drama as the fretting and planning of the rest of the book warranted.

However, I didn't really realize most of this until after I finished reading the book and started thinking over what I had read. At the time I read the book I enjoyed most of what I was reading, which is why it gets three stars - in spite of the flaws, I enjoyed reading it.

After the exciting intensity of the first book in the series, this one was less tension-filled in some ways, but stronger in others as it follows the first efforts of Elena to learn how to be an angel and for Rafael and Elena to start learning what it takes to be a couple. Never fear that it loses its appeal as an action story because in truth there are tons of actions scenes as they try to figure out who is working behind the scenes by starting wars and harming loyal members from each archangel house all in a ploy to gain the empty archangel seat. There are also those who will now try to go after Elena either to destroy her because of who she is to Raphael or just because they have a personal vendetta. Oh and if that's not enough Rafael and Elena must find away to stop Lijuan and the undead she has remade. See? So much going on.

I will confess that it got a tad slow in parts, but I wasn't bored. I love a nice bought of character and relationship development too. The back and forth narration between Elena and Rafael's perspectives was well done and I loved getting to know both of them better. Elena's struggles to work toward her goal both physically as she trained and mentally as she dealt with her past were so visceral and I loved it. The sexual tension in this one as it built up while Rafael waited for Elena to heal had me just as impatient as the two involved by the time it happened.

I continued to enjoy the strong characters. Not just Rafael and Elena, but the members of his Seven, the Cadre of Ten, others living at Refuge and the brief glimpses of her Guild Hunter Gang too. I enjoy how there is that dangerous feeling in most of Elena's relationships.

Strong sequel that left me wanting more of this world and its characters.

Archangel's Kiss is set a year after Angels' Blood. True love has converted Elena from mortal hunter to angel... hunter? Her hunter instincts are still strong. But after a year of basically being in a coma after being turned by Raphael into an angel, she's as weak as a kitten. When the ancient archangel Lijuan sends an invitation to a ball, Raphael knows that they must accept or else.

There are so many different power plays between these archangels, it almost seems no one is truly on the same side. They all might be part of the Cadre but most of the time they act like mortal enemies. And it's not just one against the rest, it's this one against these two, these two against these two, and so on and so forth. So not only are Raphael and Elena dealing with her new found status as Raphael's weakest link, her still healing from being made into an angel, Lijuan's craziness, all of the archangel's inner power plays, but someone is wreaking havoc in the angel's city.

Elena's past is making an unwelcome advance as well. While she feels she has mostly dealt with the deaths of her sisters and mother. Memories that have been suppressed are coming back with a vengeance. Raphael is there to help. And while Elena was in a coma for a year, the love between these two has not faded. Elena has changed but she's still the same headstrong hunter she always was. Raphael and Elena are learning each other still and I feel like they're coming out stronger than ever.

Lijuan's ball is something they must go to because to not show up would be a weakness. However what she has planned might even be too much for Elena and Raphael to deal with. She's truly vicious. But going against Lijuan, who is literally the most powerful being in existence, is just something that you don't do.

I'm really into this series. This is the second book I've read within a week and I can't wait to read even more.

I am soooooooo thrilled Nalini Singh decided to continue on with Raphael and Elena’s story. Absolutely overjoyed. I think I squeed aloud. My new current favorite is Raphael. I love him. I want to roll around with him and his wings and angel dust. Seriously.

The Good:

The world-building that Nalini Singh does is abso-freaking-lutely amazing. I mean hands down one of my favorites now!

Plus the chemistry between Elena and Raphael makes one seriously hot. It whets your appetite and leaves you hungry for more. The love between these two, an archangel of imaginable power and a once-mortal newly born angel is one of the more beautiful I’ve read in my urban fantasy novels.

I am just in awe of these two and want so much more.

The Bad:

You want more! Sooo, soo much more!

5 stars! Or more!

After almost dying, Elena was shocked to wake up a year later finding that she is now an Angel. Yet despite her new immortal status, the playing field has not been evened up between her and Raphael. If anything, his desire to control her is even stronger now that she is so weak. Of course she cannot stay that way for long as the most powerful known Archangel, Lijuan is throwing a ball in Elena's honor. Of course this will be no happy meet and greet as the Ancient loves to play deadly games, and now that her attention is fixated on Elena, that can only spell disaster.

So you would think after the willingness to sacrifice everything for Elena would have changed Raphael's attitude towards her. But no, he is still the arrogant control freak that has a real problem with ordering her around. He is a walking contradiction in that he wants a warrior woman, yet whenever she stands up for herself, he tries to shut that down immediately. Luckily she can more than hold her own against him, and does an incredible job of "managing" him. As time went on, he bit by bit was accepting her independence, but I have a feeling it will always be a battle of wills between them to some extent. It sure keeps their relationship interesting, and whew! does that conflict ever heat things up in the bedroom. They are probably one of the most steamy couples I have ever read about as the heat practically jumps off the page.

It really astonishes me that Elena is such a target from so many different sides, even potentially the ones that are fiercely loyal to Raphael himself. Raphael is supposed to be this supreme ruler whose actions and desires are never to be questioned, yet everyone keeps doing just that when it comes to Elena. I understand his Seven's point of view in that they see her as a threat to him, a weakness. While that may be true, she also gives him a strength the other archangels can never hope to have. She will always be his lifeline against the madness that claims so many, and his people should be grateful for that. As far as everyone else, I think the animosity must stem from jealousy or greed. She is the only made angel in the known memory, so that would make her a priceless thing to covet. I guess another way to look at it is that immortal beings do not like change, and Elena definitely brings that. Even so, the constant targeting seems excessive, and I can't help but admire the strength she has to keep training so hard to protect herself.

After the shocking ending of the first book, the rather anticlimactic ending of Archangel's Kiss surprised me. Everything was building up to the final showdown for the entire book, and I just don't think the result fit with the threat. Perhaps things turned out they way they did to open up things for future trouble, but I cannot help being a little disappointed in the way things were resolved. However, putting that aside, the book was still quite enjoyable, and as steamy as ever. I look forward to seeing what is in store next as Elena continues to grow into her immortality, as well as the changes in Raphael. Things should be interesting to say the least.

This is the second book in the Guild Hunters series. Elena Devereaux awoke from what should've been death for her as an angel. Now she's coping with this, and learning how to be an angel from her lover, and one of the most powerful Archangels, Raphael. But, when the most ancient of all the Archangels, Lijuan takes an interest in Elena, things take a turn for the deadly side. Combine that with threats on her life from another Archangel as well as a mysterious person, and Elena has a lot on her plate. Will she be able to survive Lijuan's curiosity? Will she and Raphael be able to figure out who's behind the threats on her life?

This book started slow for me. Elena is learning about angels, and how to be one in a place called the refuge. She and Raphael are also learning how to be a couple. While there are some interesting characters that we get closer looks at, all in all, the first part of this book for me was boring.

Then, all of a sudden, almost out of nowhere, bam! Action, excitement, and also, Elena and Raphael finally seem to click as a couple. Everything starts to fall into place, and we also start to see the climax of the book.

If you've read the first book in the Guild Hunter series, give this a read. If you haven't, pick it up. It's an interesting read, with a completely new ides behind the series. As for this book, while it wasn't great at the start, I ate the end up in one bite. It left me very much wanting more!

I was lucky enough to win Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh in a giveaway hosted by JoJo's Book Corner. Now I'm a big fan of Nalini Singh but have been putting off this book for quite some time. I had a bit of trouble connecting with the characters in Blaze of Memory, which made me a little leery of this book, and typically read series which have different couples each novel. The combination was a bit offsetting. After passing the novel over one too many times, I finally settled down for a read.

Well, it turns out, my misgivings were unfounded. I enjoyed this book. Oops, I guess I shouldn't have saved that declaration until the end. Too late now.

First up, Raphael. I started off disliking the prick. I wanted to plant my fist in his mouth so many times in the beginning. Things he said to Elena like "You're no more my equal now than you were before I Made you immortal" and "You can call me `Master'" had me spitting mad. It's one thing for others to treat her like she's nothing more than a pet to Raphael, another for the bean head to support that belief. GRRR! I'm not sure when, why, or how, but somewhere along the lines his personality tempered. Instead of treating Elena like a child, he encouraged her to be strong and mask her weaknesses. Though Raphael presented a strong front to all, even in his mind, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. The idea of never being able to show weakness less those around you attack seemed like such a horrible existence. Everyone needs peace from time to time. I hope in the next novel he gets an opportunity to experience and truly relax.

Elena, on the other hand, was forever strong and determined. She refused to let others tear her down, not even Raphael with his snide comments. Despite being tormented by her past, she knew who she was: the hunter-born, brave even when deathly afraid. I loved her strength and willingness to confront her fears. For Elena, the book was also about revelations. It gave insight to her past-a past she'd repressed because it was too painful to bear. As Elena said, "Some secrets hurt too much." <sigh>

As to the story line, there were some areas I liked and some I liked not so much. The mystery I really enjoyed. So much speculation, I was never quite sure whodunit until the villain stepped up to the plate and said, Idunit! The archangel politics also had me intrigued. Ms. Singh presents the angels as inhuman creatures, it makes me wonder where they came from.

Elena and Raphael had a lot of sexual chemistry. Ms. Singh really made it shine. However, it brings up a matter I didn't understand and didn't like. Raphael constant denied Elena sexually because apparently her body was too weak for the event. That was just odd. How can a body be too feeble for sex but strong enough for combat training? I didn't get it. When they finally got around to doing the deed it left me with the thought "What's the big deal?" Anyway, I just felt like it was false sexual tension and unnecessary.

This is more of a nitpick thing, but I wondered why the color of Raphael's eyes were constantly mentioned. It got to the point I mentally screamed, okay already! I know he has blue eyes. I get it!

Now for an episode of cool lines I liked in the novel:

Raphael: You can't have my cock, Elena. (Now that's direct!)
Inside Elena's head: And his face-square jaw, sensual lips, the kind of mouth that made women think hot, sweat, distinctly unangelic thoughts. (yep, I've had those kinds of thoughts)
Elena's actions: She tried to hold him to her, but his hair slid out of her hands like black water, silky and cool across her flesh. (almost poetic)
Raphael: Blades and sheaths go together. And your sheath will only ever hold my blade. (now if that's not naughty, I don't know what is)

Reading this book has rekindled my passion for Ms. Singh's novels. I'm looking forward to her newest release which came out a couple of days ago.

Redonk Nutshell: Hunter-turned-angel Elena struggles to find her footing with her new status amid the threat of her consort's covetous fellow Archangels

Book two in the Guardian Hunter series wins the award for "less cheesiest cover." In fact, I think this cover is kind of bad*ss. I can't say that about any of the others, unfortunately.

Archangel's Kiss picks up more or less right off where book one left us, plot-wise. Elena wakes after a year-long coma to find that she's not a) dead (yay!) and b) a vampire. Instead, she's sporting a pair of kickin hot wings. Turns out her dear Raphael managed to turn her into an angel, a rare, if not unheard of, concept. Which makes Elena one hot commodity. And a huge target to Raphael's enemies.

The main conflict in this book is the rising distortion of power of the Archangel of China, who has been reanimating the dead. Lujian, the aforementioned villan, isn't necessarily your average evildoer. In fact, she's not always bad. She's just a bit...off, a common side effect of having lived thousands of years.

Lujian invites Raphael & his consort to her Bejing home, a cunning dare disguised as a ball. Elena works her butt off to re-train her newly formed body. What we get is a lovely treat of some familiar faces, recurring supporting characters that demand our individual attention. There's Illium, the stunning blue winged angel with a charming sense of humor. Venom, the vicious and poisonous vampire with snake like eyes and movements. Galen, the grey winged angel that re-trains Elena with her blades. Jason, the dark and mysterious tattooed angel who serves as Raphael's spymaster. Aodhan, the quiet and diamond like angel that doesn't like to be touched. And of course, Dmitri, Raphael's right hand and confidante, a vampire several hundred years old that is constantly tormenting Elena.

The main points of book two are 1) Elena's recuperation and 2) Lujian's confrontation by the Cadre of Ten. For some people, the focus of Elena's orientation into immortality may drag or seem boring. I saw it as time well spent among Raphael's infamous Seven. We get glimpses into their lives and their pasts, as well as delving into the horrific event that shaped Elena into who she is today. Generally, the dark and morose tone continues on from book one, but this time Elena is an immortal.

And of course, there's Raphael. The pompous, gorgeous, and utterly terrifying Archangel that is slowly but surely evolving into something altogether different with his love for Elena. It's lovely to watch. Hilarious, even, at times.

I enjoyed book two. In fact, it deepened my affection for the series as a whole. Jammed packed with action, humor, and some super smutty angel-time, Archangel's Kiss makes a great sophomore book to the Guild Hunter series.

The second book, Archangel's Kiss is just (if not even more) exciting than the first Angel's Blood book.

With the exciting conclusion of Angel's Blood, the story left our heroine hunter, Elena in a very precarious medical condition. Elena awakes after a year long coma and discovers that she is now an angel. Here's what I loved. She awakes but it takes her time to become physically healthy again. It is so awesome and so much more realistic ( I know angels and vampires but still) that she needs to build her strength. She needs to train all over again and she needs to learn to fly. I would have been so annoyed if she woke from her coma and BAM she is fully ready to be in action and takes flight like nothing happened. Right away, Archangel's Kiss earned my respect.

The entire story takes place in a secret Angel world called, the Refuge. This angel domain is a place of retreat hidden away from the mortal world. It should be a perfectly safe place to allow Elena to heal and train. Unfortunately there is an angel who wants to be escalated to the position of an archangel and in doing so, causes a ripple effect of destruction among all the other archangels. Archangel's Kiss was like a mystery with the readers trying to guess who the culprit was.

The angels of this Guild Hunter series can be wicked cruel. These are not the religious God fearing type of angels. These angels have slaves, territories and some of them are very depraved. Even Elena's archangel, Raphael has some wicked cruelness but so far it doesn't seem to be unjust. Even in book 2, Elena and Raphael are still very much exploring their feelings towards each other. They have such a pull to one another that the one definite thing is quite clear; they are soul mates and by the end of Archangel's Kiss, there is no doubt how solid their love is for one another.

Nalini Singh has created an extraordinary cast of secondary characters. On one page you can't stand them and then on another, you feel a bit sorry for them. It is a very interesting read because besides Elena and Raphael, it is hard to put your finger down and label any one of the characters.

Raphael's group of warriors, known as the Seven, have now been all introduced by the end of Archangel's Kiss. The relationship between the reader and these Seven need to still grow because once again, Nalini Singh is very careful to only write the bare minimum about these warriors. A great formula because they all hold my interest and she could very easily create books entirely based on each of the secondary characters. I am so curious about each and every one. I also like that the group of protectors are taking their time on deciding how they feel towards Elena. They are not quick to trust. They are completely true to Raphael and they will do anything for him, even protect Elena with their lives.

The villain in Archangel's Kiss was hard to nail down precisely because the reader was kept in the dark most of the book not really knowing who exactly they were. There is also an amazing sub story about the most powerful Archangel and a puzzle regarding the mystery of her power. Is she evolving or is she devolving? And finally, Elena's nightmares really escalate. As the reader, you are just dying to read where all of that is leading. Freaking loved this book, Archangel's Kiss.

Archangel's Kiss is the second book in Guild Hunter series and I feared that I won't like it as much as the first. I did like this book but I didn't feel that spark in it.

This books starts with an invitation to a welcoming ball which Lijuan (Archangel of China) is throwing for Elena. In Angel's Blood, Elena is turned into an angel by Raphael, therefore making her the only Made angel in centuries. Most part of this book is set in Refuge (a place for angels/archangels) where Elena recover from the changes and becomes stronger. The relationship between Elena and Raphael was difficult at times but they balanced each other really well. I was glad that Elena knew she was weak and didn't question or argued with Raphael when he made certain decisions. Both of them had their own demons to face, and in the end, the trust kept them together.

We get to meet Raphael's Seven, his most trustworthy people, which includes Dmitri, Venom, Aodhan, Galen, Nassir, Illium, and Jason. All of them are so unique, and interesting. I'm really excited about every single one of theirs book, specially Aodhan.

Nalini Singh's writing is very simple, and beautiful. There is a lot of sexual tension which keeps you at your toes, but the end result is mind-blowing. The only complain is that there is a built-up in the story leading to the ball which was stretched so much, and then it was just over. I didn't ever know what happened in the end, and had to reread that part again. Simply putting, the ending was rushed and confusing. I hope it never happens again.

Overall it is a really good book, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is willing to give it a try. This is an amazing series, and I will continue reading it.

Archangel's Kiss takes up almost immediately after the end of Angel's blood and continues the story of Raphael and Elena.. As the story grows so does the intensity, passion and power. Singh, a true storyteller allows her characters to grow, demanding a place in our hearts..

After a year in a coma, Elena wakes up with awesome wings.. a combination of night and day, deep midnight wings with touches of gold.. the dawn as it rises. Unfortunately she has no clue how to use them or strength to even hold them up. At the weakest point in her life, mortal or immortal she must learn all over again. And learn fast, evil never plays fair. Demanding training session consume her days, when not learning how to fight angels, she is learning about angels.. Falling in love with the few angel children and deeper in love with Raphael, the delicious angel.

Raphael, holding on to his territory by the sheer loyalty of his Seven is determined to protect Elena. Sending each of the Seven to train her teaching her skills she must learn and must learn fast.. Determined that above all she survive. All the while learning how to be in a relationship, learning about his heart and "humanity".

This book while revolving around Raphael and Elena is more about the angels themselves. Their secrets, their power struggles, their greed and yes their goodness. While in the secret refuge of angels, attacks are made. Initially seeming to point towards Elena but are a series of slight in hands.. The mastermind wants to breed confusion, anger then finally war.. distracting and therefore weakening the Cadre.. A new enemy and an old one..

Lijuan, the oldest Archangel is just plain off her rockers, obsessed by Elena.. Obsessed by death she is determined to create her own army of newborn.. and is ready to show off all with under the guise of having a ball to introduce the MADE angel. Lijuan is perfect, written as the archangel who controls China she has the mysterious touch to her... The layers and layers that revolves around Chinese culture. Brilliantly written..

Michaela has returned and most decidely wants a piece of Elena.. She resents her "control" over Raphael, the fact that Elena draws attention just by being who she is. And of course is just a wee bit mad herself. Walking a deliciously delightful line between totally insanely evil and acceptable Archangel.

Elena and Raphael have to find ways to avoid the pitfalls others are throwing at them, deal with the ennui only the truly immortal can feel and stop those who thrive for power. This series is a Machiavellian delight proving his axiom, "Power Corrupts, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely". It leaves the reader to wonder if Raphael would have fallen had he not found Elena. Not succumbed to his heart. Had he destroyed her as first advised what would have become of him? I know there really wouldn't be a story, well not this story had that happened but it would be an interesting secondary story..

This story bleeds darkness into the light, we see Ms Singh's true gift as a storyteller come to light. She holds us in the palm of her hand from the first page to the last.

Archangels Kiss: Elena Deveraux and Archangel Raphael

Summary:
Elena has just woken up in the Refuge from a year long coma, only to find out that she is now sporting wings. An ambrosia laced kiss from Raphael has Made her an angel. This is the first instance of a Made angel in so many millennia, that no one can even remember an instance of a Made angels, it has become a myth among angels. Almost immediately after Elena's waking she is again thrown into the vicious world of angels. She has two months to get ready to attend a "ball" in her honor hosted by the exceedingly creepy Archangel of the Far East, Lijuan. The rumor is that Lijuan has created an army of animated dead. If that is not enough there is a killer running around the Refuge, killing and attempting to implicate the other Archangels in a mislead attempt to become the next Archangel of the Cadre. So now Elena's hunter skills are being utilized in between grueling training sessions with Raphael's Seven.

Review:
What is unique about this situation is usually with a tale of paranormal romance once the author has figured out how to make the mortal immortal the tale ends and we move onto a new couple. With this series the first three books focus on Elena and Raphael, so we get to see the struggle that Elena goes through when it comes to her newly found immortality. As Raphael's mate she has become the focus of many and instantly gained may adversaries that would love to see her dead. She does not have the luxury of getting used to her new body, she has to get in fighting shape like yesterday, and it's not young vampires she would have to defend herself against but powerful vampires and angels as well as archangels. Then there is Raphael himself who is still autocratic and has never really been in any sort of relationship as is the same as Elena so the two struggle to figure out how two such strong personalities can find a comfortable middle ground where Elena can feel like an equal member of the relationship when the power base between the two are so disparate.

Elena more than ever is facing her personal demons in this book. She has awaken from her healing with her horrific childhood memories close to the surface. Her nightmares have surfaced so that they are even invading her waking moments as well. In this book she is literally going to have to face her demons. This is not the time that Elena can deal with this, right now she needs to get into fighting shape and flying ASAP. With the threat of Lijuan looming over her head, she is also being stalked by Michaela, the Archangel of Europe and vampires keep turning up either dead or brutalized with a Guild Hunters knife. Everywhere she turns there is a threat. She is just trying to keep her head above water yet retain her humanity as well as keep Rafael from crossing that very thin line he is straddling.

Raphael is straddling that thin line between truly losing himself, he knows that both of his parents went mad and that is never far from him mind. He greatly fears that one day he will finally lose himself, but now he has Elena who is determined that he will never go that far. Raphael is used to blind obedience from most people in his life, only his Seven have earned the right to question him. Now he has Elena questioning him at every turn, wanting to be his equal in the relationship, as if a baby immortal could be his equal. He definitely has to get used to this relationship thing. At one point when Elena asked him what she was to him and he says you can call me "Master" I about died laughing. I could almost visualize Elena reaction and it was not good. But his worry over Elena's well being and her survival is really endearing. It is good to see such a powerful immortal care so tenderly about someone other than himself. I continue to love Raphael.

Since this book primarily takes place in the Refuge we see a lot more of Raphael's Seven. They are a a seriously intriguing bunch of males. They are seriously bad ass and kind of scary. They have little humanity left if they ever had any to begin with at all. Blue Bell is the only one that seems to embrace his humanity and even he has some serious fighting skills, he can behead with the best of them. Dmitri continues to torment Elena with his scent and is a brutal trainer. Venom is often present, and I can't wait for his back story and we get glimpses of the other Seven as well. Aodhain will be really interesting but it is Jason that continues to intrigue me the most.

As with other Nalini Singh novels she knows how to keep a story moving so that you will never be bored. I enthusiastically recommend a N. Singh novel to anyone and this one is no exception.

"She is my heart. Protect her as you did once before."

Can I start off by saying how much I love Raphael? He's giving Barrons a run for his money. But Barrons is still my number one guy, for now. We all fell in love with the Archangel of New York in Angel's Blood and we fall more deeply in love with Raphael in book 2 of the Guild Hunter series - Archangel's Kiss. This book starts off with Raphel and Elena at the Refuge. They have been summonded by the Archangel Lijuan to attend a ball. Elena is still recovering from her injuries and as of yet, can not fly. Or have sex. At least have sex the way Raphael wants to have sex. We learn more about Elena's past and what happened to her mother and sisters at the hands of Slater Patalis. And what caused the now strained relationship between her and her father. There's still more to learn and thank goodness there's going to be a book 3.

Elena is still adjusting to her new life as an angel and her new lover. She's still having trust issues and she is not quick to forget that she is hunter-born. She plans on returning to the Guild and her work as a vampire hunter once they return to Manhattan. I love the dynamics of Raphael and Elena's relationship. He's an archangel and is not used to asking for permission. Like Nike, he just does it. Elena is independent, strong-willed and doesn't like that her body isn't completely healed. And she doesn't like being told what to do. Their verbal sparring is interesting and funny. At one point, she calls Raphael "snarly". He smiles and says, "Only you would ever dare to say that to me." Raphel is becoming more human. He is not as cold as he was in Angel's Blood. His Seven worries that Elena weakens him; that his enemies will use Elena against him. When approached by Venom with this declaration, Raphael's response is: "She's more important to me than all of you. Don't ever forget."

This was a great follow-up to Angel's Blood. I was not disappointed. We are introduced to more of Raphael's Seven and we have more of Illium (or Bluebell as Elena likes to call him). I hope there's more Illium in future books. He's a great character and I love his interactions with Elena.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves sexy Archangels who know how to love hard and fight hard and protect their own.

Well, Archangel's Kiss starts off right where Archangel's Blood finished which was with Elena learning to become an Angel. Which is pretty much like learning to walk for the first time. She can't fly, she's considerably weaker than even the fledgling angels, and she has to learn a whole heck of a lot in the short amount of 2 months. Plus it doesn't help that her muscles are underdeveloped due to the year long coma. So, this book has 3 kind of angles to it. 1) Elena learning about being an angel and dealing with her new destiny while grasping on to her old life. 2) Lijuan (as seen in the last book) has gone a bit nuts and is bringing the dead back to life and she wants to `toy' with Elena, she seems to have a creepy thing for Raphael. and 3) there's a mystery a brewing in the Refuge and it may not be safe anymore. There's a lot going on in this book, and a lot of it happens off the page. The majority of the book focuses on our #1 topic. Of course Elena is going to have a hard time transitioning from strong competent human, to weak angel. I mean her wings have got to weigh a ton, and on her frail body, which has weakened in the coma, she has a lot of work cut out. She trains daily and is determined and man that girl has a heck of a jealous streak and some major paranoia, plus the dreams of her childhood are haunting her.

I think this is a great second book, I wish there was more action, but what action there was, was entertaining. I like Singh's writing style, she can take a lot of cliche's and turn them into something very entertaining and new. I haven't looked too far into this series, but I hope there's some more written about Illium in the future, I find the bluebell entertaining. I know that there's a future book revolving around Dimitri, which is good, because he is a great character, and wasn't in this book enough. Raphael and Elena work together, they're both stubborn, but they have eyes for only one another. There seemed to be a lot of build up and foreshadowing in this book for book #3! Can't wait to read it.

In this second installment of the Guild Hunter series, Archangel's Kiss picks up where Angels' Blood left off. Guild Hunter Elena wakes up after a year of healing from her injuries from fighting with, and killing, Archangel Uram. She discovers that she's no longer human but an angel, Made by her lover, Archangel Raphael. A curiosity among many angels and vampires, despised by the rest, Elena comes to realize that she's the first Made angel in many years and if some have their way, her existence will be very short lived.

Soon after she wakes from a coma, she and Raphael are invited to a ball. But this ball is anything but ordinary. It's being held by fellow Archangel Lijuan, an ancient, dark angel who's recently learned the power of raising humans from the dead. For what purpose is anyone's guess although most theorize it's for purely nefarious purposes. Even though Elena is Hunter-born, she's still pretty weak from the transition and must train extensively to be prepared for, and survive, whatever hellish surprise Lijuan has in store for her.

After having read both Angels' Blood and Archangel's Kiss, it's quite evident that Guild Hunter is, and is going to be, a fabulous series. The book was incredibly difficult to put down; everyday activities suffered. Joining the plethora of novels already in the paranormal realm, it easily leaves its mark as a series with a fresh voice and ingenuity.

The characters have wonderfully emotional depth and development, not only the Raphael and Elena but secondary characters as well. A favorite character is Ilium, another angel, as is Dmitri, a vampire. Vampires in this series are beings only Made by angels, thereby setting aside many popular vampire myths, another fresh approach to an ever popular subject.

Elena is a woman with a past. Surviving tragedy as a young girl, she has to live with the nightmares and the guilt that comes from them but meets her challenges head-on with fierce determination. These experiences make her incredibly likeable. The repartee between Elena and Raphael is at times sensual and at others, laugh out loud funny. Swoon-worthy Raphael is an archangel used to getting his way. Always. But he's never met a Hunter-born like Elena, who doesn't prefer the path of obedience. As he comes to love her, very human emotions like tenderness and communication surge to the forefront, but don't expect him to be so with anyone or anything else. He's über Alpha, fierce and sometimes brutal with those he sees as threats.

More intense and much more enjoyable than the Psy Changeling series, Nalini Singh hit one out of the ballpark with the action packed, darkly sensual Guild Hunter books. It comes highly recommended.

I really liked the first book in this series. Elena is a strong character. The world-building is good. It's interesting to see how evil Archangels can be when normally we think of angels as being purely good. This book is worth reading for the interesting story line and the plot twists. However:
1) Raphael and Elena's relationship feels wooden. She keeps having the same problem with him, they kinda resolve it, they love each other with no real evidence why. THIS is what happens when a one-book romance story expands in to two books. There needs to be some more development past them falling madly in love in book 1 in a matter of weeks. Frustrating since I like both characters.
2) Elena's other life seems non-existant. Elena apparently loves her friends so much but there is almost no mention of them. The story was pretty one-sided. Now that she's an angel, she's with Raphael all the time, angel business, yada yada. But wouldn't a strong character like her fight to keep in touch with old friends/be more involved in her own life?? Sometimes it felt like she was watching events go by as a bystander.

I'll read the next book in the series because I don't feel like looking for something else. I want to know what happens with the other archangels and I'd like to see some legitimate relationship growth between the main pair.

Have I told you guys that I am into angels now? I mean of course I still love to read vampy novels but... Oh I wrote that already? ummm... ok then. But I am pretty sure that I haven't told you that my favorite Angel related adult version is Nalini Singh's Archangels, namely the Archangel of New York himself - Raphael. Why is it so hard to put a celebrity face to play his part? Seriously I cannot find any Hollywood celebs worthy to play Raphael. (Suggestions are welcome, please leave a comment). So yeah and I can't stop raving about how this is my new favorite series. I book pushed this on five people already and they love it too!

*WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN"T READ BOOK ONE COME BACK AFTER YOU READ IT, but if you are willing to catch some spoilers, then feel free*

At the end of the first book Angel's Blood we read how Archangel Raphael let himself fall from a New York tower because his Hunter Elena was killed by the despicable Archangel Uram. It was by far the most romantic scene that I've read this year. He was willing to die than live in a world without Elena, how freaking sweet is that?! So everybody thought she died right? wrong. She was in a coma for a year when she woke up, she found out that she was an angel. Yes an angel! why is this too shocking, well as you can see. Angels / Archangels cannot make another angel. You have to be born into a family of angels to become one. But there was a little loop hole about this situation. If the scent / taste of Ambrosia a.k.a the taste of True Love is produced near death a new angel will be born. And what are the odds of that happening? Almost zero. So yes Raphael and Elena is a very special couple.

Elena woke up in the Refuge. A place where the young angels get schooled and learn the basics. It was a cool concept since she was just recently made. The first ever angel made from living memory. Her curriculum consists of angel history, ethics, flying lessons and of course grueling training. Not to mention ironing out her relationship details and boundaries to the Archangel of New York, Raphael. He is strong, powerful and dangerous but he loves Elena and despite the statement that Elena is his greatest weakness, I think she is also his greatest strength. The Archangel knows he is a bad ass and everybody does but behind closed doors his heart is tender. He let's Elena see his vulnerable side and share his centuries worth of nightmares. With that being said jealous biatches tried to kill her. To name of of them, no doubt the Archangel Michael. But the most beautiful female Archangel is not really their main problem...

Zhou Lijuan is the oldest of all the Cadre. She is ancient and believed to be either evolving or devolving. Her power is to raise the dead. They call it the reborn (zombies) and she has full control on most of them. She keeps them alive by feeding them other dead bodies. Completely insane right? Not only that she seems to have great interest in Elena (amongst other angels). She started sending her bizarre and disturbing gifts, bringing back her nightmares, etc... This is when Raphael's Seven made their appearance. We've all met their leader, the vampire Dmitri, the one that keeps teasing her and the one that wants to kill her if not for Raphael's strict order not to lay hands on her. We've also met Illium, the blue winged angel that Elena loves and considers as her friend and Venom with the poisonous fangs. Here we met the rest of them. Galen, Aodhan, Jason and Naasir.

If you haven't read the previous novel, "Angel's Blood," yet, go do it. Now. I'll wait here.

Done yet? Okay, good. Because that was one of the best damn books I read last year--and I read a lot of very good ones. It's a stunning blend of paranormal, fantasy, urban fantasy, mystery, action, romance, and erotica that grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go. The world is heart-breakingly original and meticulously detailed: a modern setting that's ruled over by territorial, utterly inhuman, and highly lethal angels and archangels served by vampires.

Avoiding as many spoilers as possible, I'll just say that by the end of the last book, Elena had changed, becoming mired in the world of angels in ways she never could have imagined or predicted. In Archangel's Kiss, she must help Raphael determine the identity of a killer among the angels, someone who would cross the last few lines and taboos that angels have left. Unfortunately, she must do it even as she learns how to survive the deadly new world she inhabits. She's a highly skilled and lethal hunter, but compared to an archangel she's devastatingly mortal. Unfortunately, by catching Raphael's eye she's intrigued the other archangels--something that tends to shorten a person's lifespan drastically! Particularly when the oldest and most inhuman of the archangels, Lijuan, who's been using her powers in dark and terrible ways of late, takes a very special interest in her.

The characters in the Guild Hunter novels are mesmerizing: Nalini has a true talent for depicting the inhumanity of the angels, and yet making them relatable at the same time. She also has a fantastic ability to pit two strong characters together (Elena and Raphael) without compromising the integrity of either one of them. Her side characters are intriguing, no matter how brief their stay on stage. The relationship between Elena and Raphael is still sizzling hot, easily holding up through a second book. And the density of events, plots, and goings-on is perfect, keeping things moving at a breakneck pace without glossing over or skipping anything.

I finally see what all the fuss is about. While Angels' Blood didn't quite knock my socks off, this second installment in the Guild Hunters series really did. And it has everything to do with the continuing evolution of the relationship between the archangel Raphael and the newly made angel Elena. Yes, there is still a great disparity in power between the two of them. But here, I finally believe that Raphael has feelings for her --and I see him making the effort to make things work between them.

Elena is the first made-Angel in centuries. All the other angels want a look at her... not just for the novelty of her, but for the chink she has made in Raphael's armor. Angels and vamps alike see her as a means to wound or defeat him --and that means she needs to get stronger, fast.

All this is going on as someone is making a power-play for the now-open position of archangel. And they are doing it with violence inside the territories of other archangels and spreading dissension among them. And if that weren't enough, one of the oldest archangels is raising an army of undead --while taking a disturbing interest in Elena and her past.

There is so, so much going on. I loved watching a real love story unfold between Raphael and Elena. I loved the great cast of secondary characters, all rich and multi-layered, with backstories I'm hungry to learn more about. The action is fast past and full of intrigue, with danger at every turn. And let's not forget the sex... the great, great sex. Mmmm. Loved it. 5 stars.

Round Two of the Guild Hunter Series and I was not disappointed AT ALL! What it means to have your world turned upside down and twisted in a way you have to evolve from is this whole book! The training, fighting, love making, all of it was exceptional! I honestly can't put this series down for a second! GIMME! Lijuan gave me chills from the pages and Raphael heated me right back up. The Refuge was amazingly detailed and I seriously wish it was real!! *sigh* Bluebell, you're wounded heart calls to mine. Dmitri's sultry taunting would be the end to me. LOVE!!!

Once again I was pleasently suprised by Nalini Singh. After having such a positive experience with Angel's Blood, I expected to like this sequel. But it exceeded my expectations.

The bulk of the story takes place in the Refuge, which seems to be home base for angels and their families. Elena is recovering from her year spent in a coma and learning to use her new angel body. She is trained and looked after by Raphael and his Seven, all interesting characters in their own right. At the same time, the death of the archangel Uram has created a power vacuum, with several powerful angels hoping to take his place. Many think to prove their power by threatening Elena, because she belongs to Raphael. Then there's Lijuan, the oldest archangel, who has developed the power to raise the dead as zombie slaves. She decides to throw a ball in Elena's honor, and seems to delight in toying with her.

In this book we see Elena begin to develope much more then in the initial book. Even as she slowly gains physical strength and begins to learn about the angelic culture, the hurts and weaknesses buried in her past start to surface. There are times when she seems fragile, but she's never entirely helpless. She starts to develope a stronger backbone, but does so without sacrificing her human emotions.

The relationship between Elena and Raphael is lovely. Raphael is protective, and at times it seems he wants to shelter Elena from everything. But he quickly realizes that she's a warrior in her own right and that she has many useful talents. Power dynamics aside, the emotional connection grows more and they become more comfortable with one another. There were times when I almost felt they were too perfect together.

The plot wasn't as complex as I'd prefer, but it keeps your interest. I enjoyed the political intrigue, power struggles, and bursts of horrific violence and gore. Most of all, I enjoyed the settings and characters. I was facsinated by descriptions of the Refuge and it's occupants.

Basically, this book is exactly the kind of thing I look for-- interesting characters, plot and world building, and romance. I'm giving this book 4.5 stars and look forward to reading the next one.

After a year long coma, healing from the certain-death she survived at the end of the previous book, Elena finds herself in a position of weakness, status she is ready to change at all costs. She have to learn to use her new angel body, but it promises to be a hard journey because not everyone is happy with the presence of the first Made angel in living memory.

The refuge isn't a peaceful escape. A series of murders and bloody pranks are disturbing the sanctuary and some these attacks are specifically aiming Elena. Surrounded by numbers of pissed off Vamps, angels and archangels, Elena will do her best to train hard, learn Angels History and uncover the malevolent mastermind behind the carnage.

Archangel's Kiss is a great follow to Angels' Blood. I had a great time following Elena steps into her new immortality and her new angel quality did nothing to her snappy attitude. Rebel to the bones, she finds herself fighting for her ground in her recent relation with the Archangel Raphael. With two stubborn beings meeting in a face-off it can lead to catastrophe but they handled it fairly well. Both lovers are hunted by memories of the past and it was nice to finally discover more about their shady history.

Elena has been training with a few of Raphael's Seven and I particularly enjoyed those moments. Playful, yet dangerous, those moments added an edge to the story with Elena's spicy and colorful remarks. Illium, also known as bluebell, was my favorite, followed closed behind by Jason, Raphael's Spymaster. Dmitri is present in the first third of the book but will eventually vanish from the plot, except for a mention here and there.

This book is once again filled with sexual tension and a fair amount of steamy scenes, even though I don't feel like the scenes were necessary to the plot, it didn't weight down the story either, so the balance was just fine.

Singh managed to keep the suspense high in this book and we don't discover who's at the head of all the bloody events until nearly the end. I also liked the end, great final battle with room for a third book, without any gut wrenching cliff-hanging end.

If you haven't started this series yet, I strongly suggest it, but beware virgin eyes steamy scenes are an intricate part of those books.

The follow-up to Angel's Blood has newly-minted angel Elena fending off attacks from vampires, angels and archangels alike while she tries to find balance with lover archangel Raphael, who's roughly the equivalent of a five hundred pound stone.

Even while training to adapt her body to use her new wings, she's called upon to solve a nasty case of attempted murder on a child that seems to lead in the direction of an old archangel enemy; the chase is half resolved, the the finale is cut short when the Cadre of Ten (now 9) Archangels are set to converge in China. The most ancient of them all, archangel Lijuan is giving a ball in Elena's honor and it's an open secret that she's been raising the dead to serve her with the promise of immortality; it's a no-brainer that mayhem is about to ensue and there's a lot of it. A head's up: it's creepy, disturbing and bloody.

Archangel's Kiss held the same attraction for me as Angel's Blood did. It's a really good mixture of urban fantasy and paranormal romance and the development of the secondary characters is really wonderful; I'm getting attached to the bad guys just as much as I am the good guys. I love Elena and Raphael which brings me to why the sequel ended up with four stars and the first book got five from me. I had an inkling of it when I read Angel's Blood but passed it off as sort of wishful thinking on my part, but I'm not so sure I'm imagining it anymore.

Elena and Raphael are showing sure signs of J.D. Robb's Eve Dallas and Roarke, the Early Years, before Robb was outed as Nora Roberts and Roarke was handed his testicles in a gift-wrapped box to carry in his pocket while he followed Eve around. I sincerely hope that isn't where this series is going already. Raphael is a very alpha character and I love that he's still a little terrifying to Elena sometimes and not afraid to be gruesome and mete out some seriously nasty justice when needed. But I'm nervous when a nearly too-awesome to be true heroine meets up with a too hot, too rich, too powerful and too eager to help husband-ish type. How many books is that sustainable for? For now, we've made it through two, in great fashion and Singh has carried her Psy/Changeling series through quite a few (although I'm not a fan of those), so I've got hope, as well as hope because of the tension between Elena and the ever-shifting layers of bad/good guys who weave in and out of Raphael's inner circle. It seems like she'll never really be able to get comfortable with them at least.

There are enough loose ends that make me definitely want to get the next book, but Singh managed to make them tame enough that it was still satisfying to finish. I hope next time around, with the return to Manhattan, we'll see more of Elena's pals mixing with Raphael's angels and vampires.

Bk2 in the Guild Hunter series was a bit better in the story telling than bk1 Angel's Blood. Elena has risen as and Archangel a year later after her certain death at the end of Angel's Blood. She was Made by Raphael her Archangel lover. What I like about this stories was Elena had to learn to be and Archangel she didn't just wake up a year later with all with powers like the Archangel born. Elena is on the hunt again but this time she is looking for an Archangel who is trying to ascend to the the status of The Cadre by doing some very horrible murderous acts. This is a much more dangerous situation for Elena and Raphael because archangel born are far more superior in strength and abilities than angels that are made. But this story is still full of bloody gory scenes. They are worst then in the first book. Its hared to tell who is good and who is evil. All of the angels I have meet so far do horrible murderous things. This is the problem I am having with the series. Who are the real good guys and who are the real bad guys??

Elena Devereaux has finally woken from the coma she has been in for the past twelve months. Imagine her surprise to find out that not only is she now considered Raphael's consort, but she has wings! And with these wings comes the responsibility that goes with them. This is definitely something that Elena has a difficult time adjusting to - she isn't used to feeling weak and vulnerable. She still loves Raphael and knows he cares about her, but still, Elena worries about their relationship. When one of Raphael's fellow archangels invites them to her lair, Raphael knows that any and everything Elena does or does not do will be under scrutiny. Because of this, Elena and Raphael's relationship is put to the ultimate test. Who will win?

Archangel's Kiss begins one year after the ending of Angel's Blood, and finally out of her coma, Elena is just getting used to her wings. She hates feeling frail and knows that she needs to get back in rare fighting form. She also strives to make Raphael proud of her. She loves the darkly erotic archangel and is willing to go to great lengths for him. While he doesn't often show it, Elena is just as important to Raphael and the thought of spending his immortal life without her is not what he wants to think about. But Raphael knows his fellow angels - something is happening and he doesn't like it. Dark, sexy, virile, and dominant describes Raphael and I love him. Unconditionally!

Just when I think that Nalini Singh is not able to come up with a better novel, she releases a book like Archangel's Kiss. Often raw and earthy, with a no-holds-barred look at the unpleasant side of mortality made it the sensational novel that it is. I can't wait to see what happens next in this perfectly wicked and sexy saga of good versus evil!

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and was hoping for that same level of intensity here. Unfortunately, the author seems to feel that an overload of erotica can compensate for a less than substantial plot. Don't get me wrong - I like sex in books! A good sex scene can really push the action along, but in this case, it stops the action in its tracks. I could compare this to the Anita Blake books - they started out wonderfully, but halfway through the series, I had to quit reading because I just couldn't take another mindless soft pornography scene. When the sex scenes outnumber everything else, my only conclusion is that the author is too lazy to put any real work into the series. It's a shame, too, because there are some great characters here - including the two protagonists.

The story starts immediately after the first book. More sinister plot among the Cadre, more killing, as well as more secrets are shared. I love private Elena and Raphael's sessions are. When they are together, sometimes I feel like an intruder because what they share is intimate. Their relationship is unlike anything I have read before; sometimes it feels very raw, but maybe that is how Angels dance. I know that Raphael feels like cruel and possessive, but maybe that's how Archangel loves. And Elena is a very strong woman, she can takes her own Archangel lover and demands nothing less than that. She makes him a bit mortal while he teaches her to be immortal.

I love how the secondary characters getting their fair share of scenes (I do miss Elena's human friends at the Guild). I becoming more intrigued with the Seven (four angels, three vampires, lead by gosh darn sexy and lethal vampire). I believe they also have many stories to tell. Since most of them are a bit hostile to Elena (they see her as Raphael's weakness), I sort of taking favorite in Illium a.k.a Bluebell :p. He deserves his own story and HEA.

The only reason I cannot give this 5 stars is because I miss the Manhattan beat in this book. I'm a sucker for Manhattan setting, I really do. One of the reasons I love "Angel's Blood" so much is the dark menacing Manhattan as the backdrop of the story. I can feel Elena watching the tower, the somber as well as the rush of New Yorkers while Elena does the hunting. This book takes place most at the Refuge, where Elena learns and heals as the first angel Made angel in centuries as well as a trip to Beijing when the characters visit Lijuan. I miss Manhattan setting. I hope the third book will return to it.

Nalini singh does it again with Archangel Kiss. I'm glad that she decided that Raphael and Elena's story wasnt over and yet I feel like I still havent had enough of these two. In this story we are given more insight into the relationship that was just begining with Angel's Blood. It opens with Elena learning about her wings and how to fly dealing with her weakness from the year long coma AND dealing with her "boyfriend" the archangel. While Raphael is learning and growing more mortal because of his love for the vampire hunter, I love that he is still THE ARCHANGEL. He doesnt lose any of the dominant nature that made him so exciting in the first novel. It was also great to delve a little into Raphaels seven. These are the vampires and angels that held the fort down for him while he was healing for three months. Of course I still have more questions and am pleasantly surprised that this is so different from the psy series but has the same punch. The characters remain true to themselves and yet still open up to each other about their weaknesses. The story was great but the ending was a little anticlimatic. I could have read another 100 pages but thats probably my greed.LOL. This was an awesome sequel and I'm not sure who I want to read next-Damien, Naasir, Venom or Jason. Singh manages to make each of these secondary characters compelling

Great second addition to this new series by Singh. A new futuristic/strange world where Archangles have territories in which they control with the strength of vampires and angles. I like the twist on how vampires are made. It was explained in the first book, but it was something different and unique. This entire series is unique, which makes for a wonderful read.

Elena wakes up from her year long sleep in which she has been transformed into an angel. This has not happened in all known history, but has been promised in mythical stories told about how it could happen--true love. The story dances around Elena and Raphael learning how to live and love together without hurting the other emotionally. I really liked how they open up and begin to trust each other. So often author's gloss over this part of a relationship. The thorn in their side is the killer who is attacking and killing angels and viciously harming a child. Plus, there is a ball with the too old going insane archangel.

I would recommend you reading the first book first since it lays the groundwork in this series. Overall, the book was actionpacked, sensual, and a too fast read. Too fast, because it was hard to put down.

I scored an autographed copy of Archangel's Kiss at RWA. Forgetting that this was the second in the series, I have to admit to a bit of difficulty easing my way into the Angelic 'Verse but by the third chapter, I was holding my breath and speed reading my way through an engrossing plot with characters that ooze sensuality, danger, evil, temptation ... and antogonists who stoop to the vilest of acts. I sometimes dislike the artifice of self-healing and regeneration--unless of course it's for one of my favorite characters--but in a dark urban fantasy I'm usually willing to suspend disbelief. After all, it's Nalini Singh's 'Verse and I'm just visiting. The author has a powerful voice and doesn't mind taking her readers on a thrill ride that skirts a lot of taboos. And while sensual, it's not overly graphic (I've gotten a bit tired of 25 page long sex scenes).

As is my habit when I find a new author with a strong voice, excellent storytelling and a 'hero' who's a step beyond just an alpha male ... I order the entire series. Tapping toe, waiting for the store to deliver.

Good stuff. Can't wait to read book one to see how it all started.

The plots of these books are mere vehicles for sex. The corruption of the tasks and purpose of the Archangels leads one to suspect that this author’s puppy died when she was a child and someone told her it had been taken up by the angels, so now she is taking her revenge. the store needs to label the content of its Kindle books more clearly. I want my money back.

Nalini Singh proves what an amazing writer she is again in Archangel's Kiss, the next book in her Guild Hunter series.

It has been a year after the climactic events of Angels' Blood. Elena Deveraux has woken up from her year-long coma. She is no longer a mere mortal with hunter skills; instead, she is now an immortal angel, a very weak, immortal angel unfortunately. But with her lover, and powerful archangel, Raphael by her side, they will work through the kinks and make her stronger. Elena has to become stronger because right now, she is the archangels' plaything. They are gunning for her like mad, this weakness of Raphael's.

Danger is brewing. Lijuan is building her army in Beijing and she wants to show it off to Elena. Then there is the menace growing in the Refuge. Someone is hurting angels and purposely baiting Elena. Weak as she is, she will not be bested by a maniac.

There is quite a bit going on in this book, both action-wise, and emotionally with the characters. I liked this book even more than the first in the series because I felt like the author was given a chance to dig into her characters, rather than just setting up the romance and basic world building of the novels. Elena is perhaps at her weakest she has been in a long time so she has to rely on Raphael.

Equally, Raphael for all he purports to love Elena realizes he has to start opening up to her. Trust and equality is not a one-way street and Raphael needs to start letting her in. This is hard for him, hard for her, but they make it work. They want to make it work and that makes all the difference. Powerful, immortal beings or not, love is a gift neither expected and they don't want to lose it.

Nalini Singh played up many of the secondary characters again, making them more interesting than ever. I know I'm intrigued by Raphael's Seven more than I expected.

There are also touches of whimsy and delight in this book. The power of flying, the laughter of children, and the growing intimacy between Raphael and Elena all add up to combat and help negate the growing darkness.

I swear, everything Nalini Singh writes turns golden. I was completely absorbed in this world, these characters, and their struggles. I'm excited to read more about this world, about Elena and Raphael, and I have a feeling I'm not alone. Too bad it looks like the next book in the series won't be out until 2011.

Hmmm, I'm not clear on my thoughts about this one, other than that I didn't like it as much as the first. I found the initial 50% to be pretty dragging but read on because I'd found investment in the characters in Angel's Blood. And the 2nd 50% of the book did pick up. But there were quite a lot of confusions that would have been enough to turn away anyone completely new to these titles if they hadn't picked up book 1 to begin. And I totally guessed what was coming as Elena's grand gift from Lijuan so I didn't even have any kind of surprise moments to keep me entertained. I think with what actually happened in the book, it could have been told with a lot less words and a better pace. It will take some prompting to get me to read on in the series after this.
I'm not even sure what to rate it as I can't quite clarify if I fully enjoyed it or not. Pretty disappointed after I rated Angel's Blood (book 1) 4*.

Wow...lot happens to a woman who wakes from a coma after a year! This book starts out with a bang. One of the neatest parts for me is how Raphael loves Elena. He would have willingly died with her rather than lose her and it is that love that saved her. Such an Alpha male he is and she owns his heart! In this book you get more of the trauma she endured as a child and how it affects her life. The flashbacks she gets lead up to the horror she is about to face. Love how she gets stronger both physically and mentally. Elena is no pushover.
I would like to see if some of the other books show some of the other Angels and Vampires find companions to love and trust. Not to mention Ransom and some of the other Guild Hunters. Love her BFF Sara!

I enjoyed this book so much I had trouble putting it down. Look forward to reading the next one I have right here in my hand Archangel's Consort!

Book #2 in the Guild Hunter series.
It's been a year since Elena and Raphael nearly died (in book #1) and Elena is still weak and unable to use her new wings. Raphael has taken her to the Refuge, a secret angel city, so she can recover and learn about her new society. Unfortunately, even in the super secret, super defended Refuge, no one, not even angel children, are safe from those with dark and murderous plans.
Archangel's Kiss reveals much more about the hidden angel culture and some angels begin to appear almost (dare I say it?)....human. But Archangel Raphael and his seven warriors are all extremely strong, dangerous, and ruthless to the extreme. I actually felt that Elena was stronger in the first book and was almost over matched by Raphael in this book. But maybe that was because all the other angels and archangels thought so. Angel culture is harsh, dangerous, and filled with power plays. Only the angel children really benefit from their species' power and live charmed lives....usually.
The villians in this book and the first one are truly nasty, blood soaked psychos and may be a bit much for some readers. Even so, I'm looking forward to the next book.

You really have to read Angel's Blood, the first book in this arc, to fully appreciate Archangel's Kiss and the evolution of all the characters. Although it is not a standalone sequel, it's a rocking tale!

Elena comes out of a year-long coma as an angel, the first one made literally in Eons. As the Archangel of New York, Raphael is still the ruthless ruler but becoming a litte more human, while Elena is taking on aspects of the angels. And their mutual trust is catching up with their mutual attracting. Not only can Elena track vampires she can now track angels. I love Elena's strength. This is not a wish-washy heroine. She is more than up to the psychological heavyweight Raphael.

Also in this continuing story I learned a little more of the back story -- what made Raphael and Elena the fighters and dangerous people they are. The other angel and vampire characters are very distinct and fleshed out. I love how strong Raphael's Cadre is. I hope to see more of Dimitri and Galen for one.

Archangel's Kiss continues the story of the Guild Hunters saga as its third story.
The heroine of Angel's Blood, Elena Devereaux has transmorphed physically. Her relationship with the archangel, Raphael, will define her continued existence. These major life changes thrust our pale headed hunter into a tricky world of angel politics and culture.
It is a hell of a tale.
There are a set number of archangels in this world. There are always the Cadre of Ten. At the end of Angel's Blood, the ten has been reduced to nine. The lesser angels are expecting to position themselves to be raised to archangel status while the Nine consider the sanity of its oldest member, Lijuan.
Lijuan has organized a ball in Elena's honor. The mystery behind Lijuan's graciousness and her necromantic hobbies means that Elena will need to be strong by the time of the party. In addition, to the looming party, there is the inevitable power plays by the lesser angels who see Elena as Raphael's Achilles heel. They strike out against her as she prepares her body and mind to live amongst angels.

I liked the first book of this series and started this one immediately after. It's been very disappointing. I stopped at about the 75% mark because I was too bored to keep going. The book is really thin on plot, consisting mostly of sex and mushy talk between the two main characters, ad nauseum. The story itself could have been interesting - a dead archangel from the last book, his territory fair game, a regular angel stirring up trouble to try to gain that territory, the hunter and her archangel trying to figure out who he is & stop him. Sounds really interesting in synopsis. But it was just a bunch of boring boring boring, with Elena too weak as a new angel to have sex with Raphael, and whining about her aching need in her own head. Very blah. I quit.

There isn’t nearly as much story in this book. The twist, when it came, was a sad flicker rather than either a sharp surprise or something with a lot of momentum in it. NSFW, and I did wish that the story hadn’t been a window dressing for the sex.

Ever since I read the previous novel, Angels' Blood, I have been waiting impatiently for this book to come out. I was nervous about reading it though. Sometimes I'll love the first book in a series and then feel disappointed in the following books. That is definitely not the case here. It was definitely worth the wait.

In this book we get to see the vulnerability of Elena in relation to all the other angels in her new world. She's used to being the strongest person and now has to deal with being the weakest. I liked that though she tried to stand on her own she didn't fall into stupidity and refuse to listen to Raphael about her limitations as a new angel.

I loved watching Elena's interactions with the Seven and all the new angels she encounters in the refuge. I'm very interested in seeing more developments with the members of the Seven. I also liked how the author avoided making Michaela into a cardboard cutout villain. She's not wholly bad although she's not wholly good. She has vulnerabilities and weaknesses that throw her into an area of gray that Elena wishes she didn't have to see. It's much easier to hate someone when you don't feel bad for them.

The author did a good job of showing Elena emotionally vulnerable but still strong. It was her choice to allow herself to lean on Raphael and he recognizes and treasures it. I loved how he's learning that though he is powerful he can't force Elena to open to him. Trust is a fragile thing and he realizes that he has to toe the line or he'll break her. I liked watching him try to reconcile his own personality with the care the new relationship needs.

Speaking of breaking Elena, this book did a really good job with sexual tension. Because Elena is still so weak from the transition Raphael won't make love to her because he's afraid he'll break her. The tension was great and the payoff worth it. I also really loved the vulnerability we saw when Raphael couldn't leave Elena in silence. After her year in a coma and his inability to reach her mind he has some definite anxiety there. It was sweet to see.

I can't wait to see what will come with the next book. I'm so glad I found this series!

Archangel's Kiss was GREAT! So much I want to comment on but I will keep it simple. Singh's writing style LOVED. This story takes you deeper in the world of Archangels, Angels, and Vampires. You are given more details and information on both Elena and Raphael's past/history.

As for the story inside of the story AWESOME. I have searched for a series that would get me as excited as J. Frost's, The Night Huntress series, and I believe I've found it. The "mystery" didn't bore me, as some UF do. Raphael and Elena's relationship works well and Singh's writes their intimacy scenes without all the dragged out too much . . . that while is appreciate if fitting, is NOT NECESSARY ALL THE TIME IN EVERY NOVEL just because the other authors are doing it.

They say "Third times the charm." Let's see what Singh comes up with for our angels next. :)

The second book in this series was almost as good as the first. The story of Elena and Raphael continues as Elena fights for her life. Not everyone will be happy with how that turns out. The Hunter will have even more enemies now. A celebration will be called for. The dead will walk. Oh boy. Now I have to find the third one in audio...

Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux wakes up from a year-long coma to find herself changed. She is now an angel with wings the colors of midnight and dawn (black and dark blue). She currently resides at the Refuge, a place of sanctuary, unknown about by humans. Elena's fragile body is still weak. She has not learned how to fight or balance with her new wings, much less fly. Her beloved, the gorgeous and dangerous archangel Raphael, is used to always being in control. But Elena has never done will with authority and still refuses to allow Raphael total control of her actions. In fact, anytime Raphael enters her mind without permission, Elena pushes him out - which should have been impossible for anyone to do.

As they begin to learn about each other, an invitation to a ball in Elena's honor is received. The event is to be held in Beijing, by the archangel Zhou Lijuan. To refuse would be a sign of weakness. Elena begins rigorous training to prepare for any surprises that may be awaiting her arrival. Lijuan is evolving and now has the power to bring the dead back from the grave. These pets are called the Reborn and are hardly more than gruesome reanimated corpses.

As Elena prepares, the Refuge is being shaken to its very core. An angel among them has targeted Elena, even going so far as to break the supreme law which forbids the abuse of a child. Elena cannot go anywhere alone and begins to feel as though she is in a silk prison. Raphael and his Seven protect Elena as she uses her hunter-born abilities to track a deadly and cunning foe.

***** FIVE STARS! If I am asked whether the Guild Hunter series is worth reading my answer is always, "Posi-lutely!" This is a stunning world filled with dark and beautiful characters that have already enslaved a huge fan base. Vivid and compelling, this exciting story will quickly grab your imagination and never let so. Imprisonment has never been so seductive! *****

Archangel's Kiss picks up exactly where Archangel's Blood left off. It's been three days since Elena, vampire-hunter, woke up from her year long coma only to find herself magically transformed into an angel by Raphael's supreme act of love. Unable to use her wings and their new muscles, a novice in angel history and culture, and considered Raphael's pet by all the angels both inside and outside the Refuge that now know about her, Elena has a long hard adjustment ahead. But that adjustment is forcibly shortened and condensed when Lijuan, the frighteningly old and powerful Chinese Archangel, invites everyone to a ball held in Elana's honor in two months time.

Lijuan plays with Elena like a cat with a mouse, prompting more and more memories of the past attack on her by a crazed killer vampire that shattered her family and left Elena scarred. Raphael attempts to sooth her memories by sharing pieces of his own scarring past with her, including the deaths of his parents. Together they work at the unfamiliar task of being intimate and vulnerable with another being that could hurt them. Their alone time together grows hotter and hotter as the book progresses.

New angelic and vampire characters are introduced to Elena and the reader. We finally meet the remaining members of the Seven and characters like Venom, Ilium, Dmitri, and Michaela are back for a further look as well. A secondary plot of an older angel trying to take over the empty Archangel seat with ruthlessness pops up for Elena to solve with her hunter skills, but this book is almost entirely dedicated to Elena learning how to be an angel and her new life getting comfortable with Raphael.

They leave the Refuge towards the very end to meet with Lijuan and her reborn creatures in Beijing, where the ruthless angel is unmasked, Lijuan reveals a macabre gift to Elena and the Cadre finally makes a decision regarding the reborn flesh puppets in Lijuan's control. I have to confess that the gift was not a shocker, I saw it coming way off and it seemed anti-climactic to the story. All together this story was very intriguing, just lacking a bit of the action and pizazz that Angel's Blood had.

Elena Deveraux wakes up to see an odd alien city with angels in the sky. Archangel of New York Raphael fell in love with the human hunter and changed her into an immortal. After being in a coma for a year, she has been awake for three days. They argue over their relationship as he insists he is he master and she says they are equals. He says she must fly or die in the next two months as they have been invited to a ball by the oldest archangel Lijuan that they cannot afford to miss gong. Lijuan considers the hunter as Raphael's pet and the other living members of the Cadre of ten want to test her power too after what she did to one of them in New York and her being the first made human in millennia.

Raphael and Elena while flying over Refuge see a body near where Raphael's land touches that of Elijah. Loyal vampire Noel was battered and left to die with a warning to Elena as a Hunter Gild weapon was buried inside the severely injured man's chest. The trail is cold. Raphael wants to kill the violator who harmed Noel but needs proof as he knows the games to test him and his soulmate have begun and the danger increases with deaths and torture.

Although the terrific Archangel's Kiss is a direct sequel to Angels' Blood readers will have some problems during the first few chapters catching up with the back-story unless you read the previous tale recently. However, that will pass quickly as the exciting story line grips the audience while taking place entirely on the Archangel plane. The mystery is deftly handled as is the relationship between the archangel and the hunter he made while the strong support cast contains distinct different personalities. Fans will relish this engaging romantic fantasy as everything converges at Lijuan's ball.

I found this book to be a great follow-up to Angel's Blood, as Nalini Singh takes you through Elena's first experiences as an angel.
I like how she brings back characters and plot threads from the first book, and intertwines them with new ones in this sequel.
Even though the novelty of the angels and their world begins to fade with this book, I wanted to find out what happens next. The author comes up with interesting storylines, and even though a few things may seem to be repetitive at times, Singh does manage to move everything along.
We finally discover the whole truth about Elena's past with Slater Patalis, and even though the ending was not as dramatic as anticipated, it was still a good read.

Looking for a light-hearted urban fantasy/paranormal romance? This ain't it. However, if you like your stories very dark and sensual, you've come to the right place. First off, I don't recommend reading this 2nd book in the series until you've read the first, but I wouldn't consider this stand alone. And you'd miss so much of the awesome world-building that was in the first one. Elena is now an angel, and she is being trained by Raphael and some of his Seven. There's a mystery going on while Elena is adjusting to her change, together with having to deal with Lijuan, an Ancient who controls the dead. Action packed with some very sensual scenes, this is a series that should not be missed.

I enjoyed this second book in the Guild Hunter series, but not as much as the first. The plot was good, but the pacing was slower and the writing not as smooth. Several times I was confused in the story and went back to reread, thinking that I must've missed something. It was also somewhat repetitive. The flashbacks and introspection were understandable, but it was overdone and it disrupted the flow of the story in more than one instance. That said, the author did a great job again with world-building, characterization, and relationship-building; enough that it overcame a lot of the negatives. Not enough to bring it up to 5 stars, but enough for me to anticipate the next book in the series.

This is about Elena just starting to get even the smallest handle on her new abilities. We learn more about the Cadre and see love growing in the relationship between Rafael and his newest possession. Also, she is being attacked at every corner as politics and power collide. As usual, the pace is extremely fast and excitingly convoluted. How can she possibly win this fight?

I thoroughly enjoyed the continuation of the love story between Elena and Raphael. The transition Elena must go through to become an angel are difficult and she must also deal with everyone wanting her head on a platter. The relationship between the two is still the heart of the story.

Archangel's Kiss was a beautiful crafted, captivating story. I loved reading about Elena discovering her new angel side and felt like I was right there with her as she took her first flight. Elena was once again thrown into a world not of her own choosing, but she did not complain. Stoic as ever, she simply accepted her lot and moved on to more important things, such as training so as not to appear weak in front of Lijuan or any of the other number of angels after her head. Rafael is just as sexy as he was in the first book, maybe even more so now because his love for Elena is so obvious through his over-protective streak and desires to care for her at every turn. The characters in the Guild Hunter world seem as though they could quite feasibly walk off the page and into the real world. Singh walks the line between providing enough information to keep the them interesting and holding enough back that the reader can't help but beg for more. I can only hope that some these characters are featured in Singh's upcoming novella (details unavailable as of today). However, I was disappointed that Sara and the other Guild Hunters from Angel's Blood did not feature heavily into this story. It makes sense that Elena would recover in the angelic stronghold, but it would have been nice to at least have Sara involved. My only other problem with this book is that the "epic battle" at the end was over far too quickly. These are the only reasons that this book did not quite make it to a full five star rating. Otherwise, it was an excellent read.

4.5 out of 5 stars

I can't put my finger on what's missing. Hell, for once, there's focus on one couple, instead of the more typical flavor of week formula, which annoys me. And yet....something is missing. The writing is just not as tight as her Psy-changling series. Habit Of meandering a bit.

Ok, so Archangel's Kiss is the sequel to Angel's Blood, by the stunningly talented Nalini Singh. The story follows Elena, a Guild Hunter(vampire hunter of sorts) turned angel. She is the only known Made angel in history (the rest were born that way. Like albinos) and was Made during Angel's Blood by her lover Rapheal, the Archangel of New York. This takes place mostly at the Refuge which is like an angel Club Med. The whole story revolves around Elena getting used to being an angel and being with Rapheal, who can be a little demanding being in his early thousands and all. Oh and getting ready for a ball with the slightly nut-bar Lijuin, who's taken to raising the dead.
I liked this book so much better than Angel's Blood. The pace was better and the flow of Elena then Rapheal narrating was more fluid. I felt like Elena and Raphael were more fleshed out and real this time. Their romance was hot and sweet, and the story was excieting. I loved how possessive they got towards one another, and I think I liked the last few scenes between the two the best so far. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

The story talks of angels and archangels that work independently of God. As
a matter of fact, God seems to have no involvement. This undermines the reason
for the creation of angels and the Godly tasks they perform in answer to God's
Instructions. Angels are known always to be in constant communion with God but
not in this story. I found the book disconcerting to the absence of any authenticity.

Elena wakes after a year in a coma to find herself as an angel, she discovers that her abilities as a hunter born are still there but now she has to learn how to be an angel too, for her vulnerable period Raphael keeps her in the Refuge, a place where angels are suppose to be safe, but somebody is attacking every archangel's territory and even the Refuge leaving a warning indicating that Elena is next. They have to find the guilty party while worrying about the China's archangel is devolving.
Ok this is definitely a light reading, don't expect the best writing in the world as well as expect some repetitive scenes about Elena's nightmares and if you're religious, you'd probably won't be happy about the names in the series but if you can separate your believes from fiction in an entertaining book then you'll be ok.
This book was fun I really like how Elena struggle to learn the basics in being an angel, like get used to the wings, flying, fighting, etc. We finally knew what happened in her past and Raphael's as well, we kind of had two enemies to keep things interesting but even when we didn't get the Guild to help in anyway, who needs them? We have the guard of Seven of the Archangel of New York and this was my favorite thing in the book, hey I wouldn't mind if the series evolved in one book for each of the them, that's how much I like them. The Seven are three vampires and four angels that protect Raphael from every danger even the dangers that he's not aware of. And the most compelling thing is that they do it for loyalty, because Raphael is not their master. A vampire that was made against his will, one that can make poison with his fangs, another that is so not tame that even angels fall with him (wickedly that is), an angel who doesn't like to be touch, one who despites torture, another that drools about weapons but with a hiding heart and my favorite the one who loves humans. The use of secondary characters was fantastic.
Fun book to have a fun reading where you get action and the emotionally stuff with Raphael being a little bit more human, also many, many sinful scenes and very explicit vocabulary.

Another amazing story in an amazing series. What happens with an archangel, and the world, when she becomes so old she believes she controls life and death and the world? Again, thrills, chills, true love, mystery in the continuing saga of Raphael the Archangel and his true love, no longer mortal Elena Deveraux.

I was always told, that thunder was the angels bowling, so this book seemed the perfect read. Thunder in the background was a perfect setting for the Angel battles that happen in this story. Elena, Raphael and the Seven battle demented Archangels, vampires and the reborn to save the world. Series just keeps getting better.

This is the brilliance of Ms Singh. Almost nothing happens in this book, it is a total act two of a bigger story, and I LOVED IT! I did not even read the first book, but she has hooked me in this slow and in between story. There is a lot of world building, character development, establishing cultures traditions, and lots of different training. And it is all so interesting that I could not put the book down. I WANT MORE.
the leading lady is a powerful force of nature, and yet she learns her own limits and gives in around her Ralphael. There is a lot of buildup for a ball at the end of the story, but I did not even care about the event when it showed up, so many other awesome action packed stuff was going on. Going to read the next book

The first half of this novel has little action and is more of Elena adapting to her new circumstance and her and Raphael learning more about each other. And even when there is action later on, it is not much and passes quickly. Yet, I still enjoyed the novel for its worldbuilding and its exploration of a couple with massive power differentials trying to overcome that gap and build a long-lasting partnership.

This book is seriously amazing - the imagery and details are so beautiful and it's like you're really in the setting and the scene.

Nalini Singh has developed her characters so deeply that Raphael and Elena seem like real people that could be found in real life if angels and hunters did, in fact, exist. While they are not perfect, have a realistic love and their relationship is not automatic - each one has to work to not lose themself to the other and destroy that which makes them them. These extremely stubborn and headstrong couple learn how to comprise in their relationship and, although it is not always happily ever after, it is very real.

This book is also rife with danger, mystery, romance, humor, and snappy comebacks as well.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book if you're looking for a fun read (and no, it's not just because I have a major crush on Raphael - the guy is HOT, what can I say? ^-~) ... trust me, you WON'T regret it! :D

Also, I suggest that you read the first one as well! Angels' Blood

This book blows me away. The world created by Nailini Singh is dark, dangerous, violent and without half measures. Surrounded by dangerous situations, evil characters and unpredictable circumstances, are Raphael,Elena and their mutual love. The relationship between the both is absolutely not cheesy, no fluffy moments here, just a true devotion between two controversial and fascinating characters. Regretfully we have to wait so long for the next one................

In the mood for a dark, intense and smoldering sexy read that may have you gasping for breath? Nalini Singh delivers this in ways you can't imagine with Archangel's Kiss, the second book in her Guild Hunter Novel series. The first book, Angels Blood introduced vampire hunter Elena Deveraux, who lives in an alternate New York City universe where angels rule and are things of wonder to bow down to and be very afraid of. Elena was ordered to hunt down a supernatural serial killer than ended up being an archangel. The seductive and dangerous archangel that rules New York City, Raphael, is thousands of years old and has decided that Elena will be his new sexual pet. They engage in a battle of wits and an almost disturbing sexual dance as she hunted for this killer while Raphael hunted her at the same time.

Angels Blood ended with Elena and Raphael killing the serial killer. Elena died from the outcome, but Raphael was able to save her. Now Elena is the first human in a millennia to be changed into an angel. Archangel's Kiss begins after a year, where Elena was in a coma, has now awakened and is recovering, hidden away for her safety at the Refuge, where angels are all around her. Human are unaware of this place and only the angel's vampire servants are welcomed. Elena, being hunter born is now an anomaly. She is very much like a new born, who's learning to walk, or rather learning to fly. Raphael is there to help her, but their relationship, which is very new and scary, could go either way. Elena has come to love Raphael, the superior archangel who owns her heart, but Raphael is so used to taking what he wants and to treat Elena as his equal and not as a pet or a possession makes things very unstable between the two. Plus, there's a possibility that Raphael could still kill her.

Raphael is close to amoral as you can get and has lived many centuries as both a ruler and treated like a god. He longs to engage in mind numbing sex with his new angel mate, but because she's still weak and his wild and brutal appetite could break her while they are intimate, he holds back. Raphael is quite the giver to the point where Elena may break any way because she's so frustrated because of the way his foreplay (Raphael uses his finger and mouth to give Elena satisfaction). Raphael has an elite group of warriors, called his Seven, which is a tight-knit group of vampires and angels who protect Raphael against any threats and danger. And now their most important responsibility is to protect Elena from being killed by Raphael's fellow archangels, including Michaela, a very deranged and unstable archangel who despises Elena with a passion.

As Elena goes through angel physical therapy, she keeps having nightmares about her mother's and sisters' brutal murders, as well as trying to understand why her father has turned his back on her. Also, one of the oldest archangel's still living on Earth, Zhou Lijuan, has invited Elena to the Forbidden City. This invitation is a trap because Lijuan is creating a new race of undead, an army, where she can truly be a god in every sense of the word. Then angels and vampires are being brutally murdered, even angel children. And because of Elena's special tracking powers, she'll try to find this killer who may be in league with Lijuan. Elena must watch over her shoulder because she's an easy target. And because Raphael's feelings for Elena sometimes confuse him, he may lash out and become something he doesn't want be. As long as Elena can love and accept him for who he is, they can be together for all eternity.

Archangel's Kiss is an amazing, well written, awesome world building book that I couldn't put down. You can see how far Nalini has come with her writing and character building. She excels in writing such interesting characters, from Raphael who's an amoral hero who walks a fine line into villainy, to Elena who puts all other urban fantasy/paranormal heroines to shame. The secondary characters of, Illium, a happy go lucky loving angel, is one that needs his own story. Even the near psycho Michaela with her questionable actions keeps the reader on their toes.

There is so much going on with these pages. Intense is the perfect word when describing Archangel's Kiss. The sensuality between Raphael and Elena is explosive and Nalini explains things she didn't in Angels Blood. I really can't find any faults except for the fact that the religious aspect is glazed over in regards to these angels. It may not be a big deal, but I would be interested in knowing more about these angel's background, as in if there is a higher power ruling over these creatures and a Heaven and Hell, or they're just a special society that always has been around.

I would recommend you read Angels Blood first before Archangel's Kiss. It introduces the world and characters why they act the way they do. Sometimes, I question how a supernatural couple can sustain their love in a believable way for hundreds or thousands of years? Nalini has given us proof that this is possible with Elena and Raphael. I'm already anxious to read their next installment.

I liked it. Although it took me a while to actually get into it. I am kind of dissatisfied because I expected the heroine to start kicking butts and be super badass especially now that she has wings. She holds her own, don't get me wrong but she's just not quiet there yet. Maybe the next book?

I Loved, Loved, Loved the first book and if i hadn't already read it i would read it again. This book was just average. While i read the first book in one sitting i found this one rather boring. The heroine spent ALOT of time resting and training to get her strength back. I kept waiting for some action to happen between the main characters and in the story. Instead we wait and wait while she gets stronger and eventually they have sex and some actions happens toward the end. It held my interest enough to finish it but it took me several sittings to accomplish. Elena and Raphael just seemed to get along too well in this book and i found myself missing the spiciness of the first book. I would still say to read this to keep up with the angel world but i can't give it high marks.

I loved Angels Blood and I hoped part 2 would be just as good. I found it to be even better. Nalini Singh is one of the best writters today in creating a world of fantasy that is still believable, her words simply flow off the pages. The plot was stong, and the emotions between the characters so passionate. Elena is a strong heroione, yet has a vulnerbility that comes off as real and honest. I loved this book, but to really enjoy it you must first read Angels Blood. This is a great new series, and I can't believe I have to wait another year for the next book.

Archangel's kiss is the sequel to other such books in the Guild Hunter's series, but don't freak out. The back story is easy to grasp, and Singh successfully fills in any blanks for first time readers.

The story begins with our main Dudette Elena, waking up as a newly made Angel. In the previous book(s) she was mortally wounded doing a job for her now lover Archangel Raphael. In order to save her Elena was turned into an angel herself, an issue which dominates this book.

Archangel's Kiss starts pretty well. Fans of urban fantasy and especially Laurell K Hamilton will like this book. The mythology is cool, the action intense and the angelic political games and violence build suspense well.

At first I only had a few qualms about this book. The pornigraphically purple prose is borderline criminal (think "Brutally hard [cock]" and "uncomprimisingly masculine". The relationship between Raph and Elena is fairly cliche stock: He is superpowerful and doesn't want to sleep with her in case he loses control, she is utterly submissive to him but wants to pretend she still has her own life.

Halfway through the book I thought the balance of these faults and pros made me think 3 stars. However, overall the story is somewhat weak, failing to keep the interest of the initial chapters. Like many other urban fantasy series, too many characters are introduced, after a while they all blur into one as each individual character seems to be pointless to the actual storyline we care about.

To be fair I remember one guy who hilariously has the power "To make small objects near to him disappear". Small objects is supposed to refer to knives and handguns but I couldn't help to baulk at his inappropriately sexual party trick.

The climax of the story left me cold, and just didn't stand up to the build-up offered throught the novel, with the adundance of characters thrown into the mix it was hard to be interested in the antagonist, and her defeat seemed far too easy and video gamish to be interesting.

Ultimately a worthwhile read but only if you're into the genre

I just wanted to add my voice to say that I really enjoyed this book, as well as Angel's Blood. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I stayed up til 5:30 am on a Sunday reading then woke up and 9:30 to finish! Great story, great characters. I would have liked a little more at the ending, because it felt a bit rushed to me. There was so much development and backstory at the beginning of the book, I would have like to see the same with the ending. Overall still a great read.

Loved it and would'nt mind if this author wrote another couple of books with this as the main character. Plenty of set ups for sequels though. If you enjoy other books by nalini singh, you'll love this one also.

First time reading a Singh book. I would have to say I am an avid reader and her book is very jumpy. Goes from one topic to another. The story line doesn't seem cohesive. Don't get me wrong the main plot is visible but I just could not get into her characters not enough development. It seemed like she didn't have a great editor.

I enjoyed the idea of the story just thought it could have been written better or again I will say edited better.

I am so glad to have found Nalini Simgh's Guild Hunter series. After too many YA yawn inducing stories I finally found an adult heroine with more character than I could ask for. Well written, action packed .... and did I mention ADULT characters? Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Nalini Singh continues to impress me. Her writing is so powerful, and puts you right there in the scene with the characters. I did not want this story to end. I love the fire that Elena and Raphael generate. I cannot wait until the next segment in this series. Ms Singh has become my new #1.

2nd in the series, Elena, vampire hunter, wakes up as an angel and tries to cope up with her new physiology.

Sensual, humorous and action-packed. If you like patricia brigg's mercy series, you'll definitely like this!

DETAILS OF TORTURE FROM THE BOOK GIVEN

"Archangels' Kiss" left a bad taste in my mouth because of the unremitting, CONSTANT sadism. When I read the except from Singh's next Psy novel, I noticed the same thing. I hate this. I do not want to read about blades through eyes, skin flayed off backs and made into purses, excruciating deaths--even if the vampire "deserves" it. His being a child molester just makes it worse, more "icky," more disgusting.

I love dark novels, but there is a difference between reading about characters who are blind to love and the light and come to experience joy, and just the hopeless, dark, twisted world that Singh has created in this novel. She does not need to ramp up the violence, the torture to create suspense. It seems as if all her characters, except the disabled teacher and the kids, are so hard, so violent, to plotting, so devious, so unaccepting, so constantly on guard that it's like being in a hospital waiting room.

I read romance because I love the romance, but there was nobody that I really rooted for, nobody that I really LOVED in this book. There were just characters that were not as bad as others. In short, this was not my cuppa.
