I have read Quidditch Through the Ages a few times over the years since the book was first released. Listening to the audiobook was a real treat!
This audiobook was so much fun to listen to! Andrew Lincoln did an absolutely amazing job! I really loved the various voices and accents he used to capture all of the characters mentioned. There were also sound effects used here and there such as crowd cheering, the snitch noise as it zooms around, horns, and other such things, that added a lovely layer to the production.
There were many terms, names and such things that I heard out loud for the first time. So of course that was interesting!
All of the bonus elements were fun as well!
There was The History of the Quidditch World Cup which dove a bit deeper into famous Quidditch games through the years. I was so excited to hear about Viktor Krum and a few of his famous matches!
There were also a bunch of lovely articles from the Daily Prophet that were included that were also wonderful to listen to! I loved the way that Imogen Church read these as she acted like Ginny Potter! She put some wonderful emotion into the readings. Though I have to admit, I was a bit bummed to hear when Rita Skeeter came in, narrated by Annette Badland. Mention of Rita's name still gives me anxiety! But of course the narrator that read these articles did a great job here as well. And it was fun to hear about Harry and the crew. Though Rita's creepily obsessive narrative about Harry and her negativity toward the other characters made me very weary.
Lastly, we had a lovely look into the 2014 Quidditch World Cup. It was like really listening to a radio report of the game!

Have you ever wondered where the Golden Snitch came from, or how Bludgers came into existence, you need to read Quidditch Through the Ages by J.K. Rowling. This book is read by young Quidditch fans daily.
I recommend this to any Harry Potter Fans.
I enjoyed reading this book and getting back to the Harry Potter world I fell in love with. It was not as fun as some of the others but still enjoyable.
This book is written like you checked it out from the Hogwarts library with names of the students that have checked it out before you. This book has everything you need to learn about Quidditch. It has everything from how the game came to be, to its rules, to its famous teams, and all the different types of fouls. They are described very well and some even have pictures to help visualize. For me that helped me understand and have an easier time reading this book. I finished it in one day. It can be dry in some parts but so are our books from the school library.
My favorite part of this book was the visits from characters through their notes in the book. From the little sheet keeping track who checked out the book before to the librarian warning the students not to damage the book. I liked the reviews by different wizards they made me laugh. If you are a true Harry Potter fan you will be able to get into this. JK helps you understand his world even better. To the point of making you believe that this world could be real. To think of the history and the rules and everything it is quite impressive to have an author has so much detail. One detail that would have been entertaining to see is the mention of is the Muggle Quidditch Organization that has even come to my small town. Where muggles play Quidditch without flying of course. You know it is quite popular when it hits my town which is a very small town in Wisconsin. If you have not read Harry Potter yet I do not know if we can be friends. Just kidding. Seriously, go read the book. I own the first one in Spanish and English. **Warning** This book may cause severe urges to go and re-read the entire Harry Potter series.
I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this to any Harry Potter Fans.

I have read this book many times, but when I saw that Pottermore was creating audiobook versions of both Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them I knew I had to check them out. Thankfully my library purchased them because they are both incredibly short books and aren't worth the $15 they sell for. The total run time of Quidditch is three hours. The first half of which is the actual Quidditch Through the Ages narration and the second half is a narrator reading Ginny Potter's reports/narration from the 2014 Quidditch World Cup (which was written by J.K. Rowling and published on Pottermore four years ago).
Quidditch Through the Ages takes the reader on a journey from Quidditch's inception in Queerditch Marsh and its evolution to today. Readers also learn about some of the earliest forms of the game which may have inspired the players who joined in the fun to create their own versions. For example, there was a Scottish game in which bewitched rocks were caught whilst flying around the pitch that may have been a precursor to the bludger. The histories of some of Quidditch's most famous players and teams was an interesting addition.
Overall, this book is a fun way to expand the Wizarding World that we've grown to love. Quidditch is such an integral part of their lives and it was nice to get to know the sport better. While the audiobook was good, I wasn't impressed or enamored by the narrators.

Genre: Fiction (although I wish it wasn’t)
Age Recommendation: EVERYONE
I cannot believe that I forgot about this book. A very nice family friend gave me this book as a gift and another one: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them for my birthday! For those of you who don’t know (tsk tsk), these books are mentioned in the Harry Potter series and I am elated that J.K Rowling decided to actually write them! I hope she publishes The Monster Book of Monsters next. ;)
All in all, this was a great book and I found it fascinating. My only complaint: IT ISN’T REAL! I have long wished that Harry Potter truly existed… :(
Quidditch Through the Ages
———————————————-
Basically, this book starts with the evolution of the broomstick: the flying one that is…
J.K. Rowling has drawn some wonderful diagrams depicting the various types of broomsticks in the wizarding world and how they changed over time. The next chapter is about games that involved broomsticks and different types of balls. It covers ancient games from different countries which leads into how Quidditch was formed.
Later on, the book talks about the different Quidditch teams and the details of each one. It also informs one about how the racing broom was formed.
Personally, I loved this book and I think that all Harry Potter fans should read this as well.

This is another quick glimpse into the world of Harry Potter, learning about the evolution of the super popular game of Quidditch. It makes sense that, coming from a non wizarding background, this would be one of Harry's favorite books. I enjoyed this book even though I am not a sport person, it was very funny and showed a lot of insight into the culture of the wizarding world. I would definitely recommend this to any Harry Potter fan. I gave this four stars because I really enjoyed it, but I just wish it was a little but longer.

QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES was a bit more enjoyable for me. It’s still a sort of reference book but there are a lot of little stories too since we’re getting more info on Quidditch history. It’s not just pure reference and involves small anecdotes and facts about Quidditch itself and players throughout history.
One thing that always ceases to amaze me is how much detail J.K. Rowling puts into her worlds. These companion books are just further proof of that. She not only invents the sport of Quidditch, but also comes up with famous players, how the game was invented, rules, fouls, penalties, and so much more.
I think my favorite thing was learning more about the history of the sport, taking us back hundreds of years. The details are just incredible and this book flowed a lot more smoothly versus an index of beasts (see above). I almost wish there was another section that was a bit more reference like, listing a sort of Guiness Book for Quidditch — facts of longest game, best player, most fouls, shortest game — some of these facts were actually mentioned in the book, but I’d like to see them as a list (although I’m sure someone’s listed it on a website somewhere. If so, link me up)!

Quidditch Through the Ages is such a fantastic addition to J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. Like anything Potter-related, I just devour this book every time I read it.
The way Quidditch Through the Ages is written actually makes Quidditch feel like a real sport in a way. I loved all the history of brooms and Quidditch. J.K. Rowling just puts so much thought into everything she writes! I also loved the references to Arbroath and Montrose as these towns are about half-an-hour away from where I live. I'd definitely be a supporter of the Montrose Magpies!
Quidditch Through the Ages is told exactly how a wizarding textbook should be. With just the right mix of humour and "fact". I wish my own textbooks were more like this when I was studying. I also loved the library-touch this book had with references to Madam Pince and her precious books. It suited the Potter characters to a tee.
This is honestly such a quick read and has no problems keeping a reader engaged. My only wish is that it could have been longer. I'd just love to learn more about the different teams and the hundreds of different Quidditch fouls.
Quidditch Through the Ages is just a fantastic read and a definite must for all Potter fans. Plus, this book is for charity, so buying a copy is a great thing.

Quidditch Through the Ages is a sort of addition to the Harry Potter series. If you've read the Harry Potter books, you probably remember the characters talking about what a wonderful, exciting and informative book it is.
I kind of expected it to be longer, but I suppose that you can't get everything you want... all in all, for an additional book I thought that it was pretty okay. The best things about it were the little comments and tid bits that made it really seem like a book from the Hogwarts library.... the card in the front that has the names of all the kids that checked it out, the introduction from Dumbledore, and the conversion from dollars to sickles and knuts on the back are all really cool.
If you're a Harry Potter fan, you have to get this, if just to ease your curiosity on what it's about. But beware- this book has no plot and reads pretty darn boring, except for a few select parts. It clears up quite a bit of the fourth book's Quidditch Cup, and if there are any more matches in future books, I suggest keeping this close at hand.
This is rated G, and is really really tame. The fifth book was kind of crazy, what with the teen angst and such, but this takes you back to the happy, carefree world of Harry Potter.

Well I ordered a used one, so i didn't expect the book to be very new. And of course the book wasn't new at all, but still it was acceptable. But after I flipped through the book I realized a page was gone (I saw the tearing mark) and i wasn't very pleased with that... But I guess I wasn't lucky enough to get a good one... it's all luck

I'm a librarian and I think our readers, young and old, will be completely charmed by the creative and fun language of this little book. Lovely and fun! I'm completely jealous of the authors ability to manipulate words with such skill and fun. If only I could borrow Madame Pince's ability to swoop down on those who damage my beloved books.

A quick read that's full of fantastic, fanciful facts with names, dates and places related to the sport called Quidditch. While giving me a greater appreciation of the sport and its evolution, my first read-through didn't result in any improvement in my own skills as a beater. I'll certainly appreciate the golden snidget more, as a result of reading this book.

I enjoyed this! Amusing and informative, I most enjoyed reading about the America take of Quidditch, our attempts at playing and our fevor for Quodpot, a ridiculous spoof of football. That being said, I'm a Quidditch fan and will be forever. My only qualm about this book is it was too short!

Funny and entertaining, with some interesting facts; how the broomstick evolved from a knotty uncomfortable slow-moving contraption into a sleek racing machine; the origin of the golden snitch; why Quidditch is not popular in Asia - see if you can figure out why, or better yet, read the book!

If you are interested in learning about Quidditch and how the sport became to what it is today. Then I would recommend that you read this book. In this book you can learn why broomsticks were chosen as a tool of transportation, the evolution of how the Golden Snitch used to be the Golden Snidget, how the positions have changed over the years, Quidditch around the world, how racing broomsticks have evolved over the past years and much more! This book is full of interesting information, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Quidditch.

If you're a Muggle looking to relieve the everyday, mundane boredom of your life, pick up "Quidditch Through The Ages" by Kennilworthy Whisp and J.K. Rowling. It's an often interesting and always amusing look into the favorite sport of the wizarding world (the section about Quidditch teams through Britain and then the rest of the world is particularly funny).
The only complaint I have is that it's a bit short, and perhaps not quite in-depth as readers would like it. It's very easy to point out instances where Rowling deliberately seems to be shortening the book. But it's well worth the few bucks it'll cost, whether you're a Harry Potter fan or not.

Albus Dumbledore generously decided to share this book out of the Hogwart's library, even to Muggles! An interesting and often comical history of the game of quidditch, full of name changes and oft-dangerous rules.

I was able to read this book in about an hour. It was full of facts on how Quidditch came to be in the modern wizarding world. If you like the Harry Potter series; this is a relatively good book to read for extra knowledge on the changes of how Quidditch was played in its infancy into it recent years.
