Definitely a page turner and easy to get invested in the characters. For fans of Zombie thrillers, Apocalypse fiction, and The Walking Dead. The author doesn’t downplay the hardcore reality of living in post-apocalyptic times but also doesn’t glamorize the gore. He paints realistic scenarios and delivers satisfying, if not always happy, outcomes to terrible situations. There’s an element of hope woven throughout that makes you ponder deeper questions. Well-written, well-researched and well-edited. I wished the story had been longer!

Of course there were Zombies, and of course people died.. but this book was anything but formulaic. You think you know what's going to happen next.. and then you find out you were w.r.o.n.g. wrong!

AND... I didn't once find myself skipping over parts of the story to speed things up. (I do that sometimes.) So I say buy it, read it, enjoy the Zombie goodness..

Got about half way through and quit. Several things bothered me. First were the frequent religious references. I get it, couple of the main characters are men of faith. Great, But, in this case I believe less is more. Just too many "faith, prayer, God" references for me. Got to be distracting. Some people might love it and find it affirming. My case, not so much.

Second, the two brothers act like kids in a shooter game. If they are so full of Christian faith, charity and love for their fellow man, then why the gleeful enjoyment? One of them says this zombie apocalypse "is not so bad" as he clearly having fun. Seems an attitude hugely inconsistent with the deep religious beliefs. Finally, they do dumb things, like enter a dark, unsecured building so a woman can pee in the bathroom. Kinda-sorta think common sense would dictate hold it for safer venue.. Or, more likely, privacy comes in second. She pees outside where she can be covered and they have some space to deal with problems. Instead, you know what happens.

This is a kick ass book about the zombie apocalypse. And as you may have guessed from the title there are two brothers who have to survive in this new and deadly world. Book one rocked and can't wait for book two, if you're into zombies then this is definitely a great read.

I don't think that things would get as ugly between people as quickly as it has in the book, after a few weeks maybe but not 2-4 days. That being said, it was a fun read and I hope, just like the zombies, you keep putting out more and more.

Another fun summertime read. I can already tell that the two main groups of characters will be interacting for a long time. I like the character development. The brothers are a lot of fun. My only complaint is that I finished the book too quickly.

Book was very good. The only thing I did not like was that it had too much info on the types of weapons they were carrying. Those parts were boring, to me. I think you could have written more of you left all the technical jargon out. It I enjoyed it and can't wait for part 2. Write on Joshua!!!!

A great end of the world story, that beautifully sets up a long series, which I am really looking forward to. A zombie story with loads of human strengths and frailty all bound togather to a coherent whole.

One damned good read. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with brothers James and Connor Andderson.

A couple of days earlier there had been several brutal murders in Hill City, Texas. then yesterday, Hill City had gone dark. Shortly after state troopers had been sent in and nothing had been heard from them since. When the same thing started happening to other towns in eastern Texas that night, the National Guard had been sent in. Now there were rumors and videos circulating the internet.

The dead were coming back to life.

James and Connor both read the stories in the papers and Connor called his parents to let them know that he and James would be gone for the weekend. James is the oldest at twenty one while Connor is nineteen. Conner had been a marine though he never saw combat. The brothers are very capable with any gun and both know how to survive. This weekend they will be heading to their Montana camp which is in the middle of the Montana ranch to shoot prairie dogs and coyotes. His Dad told him it would probably all blow over and to go enjoy the hunting at the Montana hunting camp so James and Conner did just that. They killed over two hundred prairie dogs and three coyotes.

On Monday they headed back toward the nearest town and its grocery store. James thought it was weird that they didn't pass a single car. As they hit the main street they found the street littered with crashed cars. There were also dead bodies all over the street.

Connor and James checked the first body they saw. Everything smelled like rotting meat. Connor's marine training kicked in big time. He was now treating the area like a war zone. Though he never saw combat his instincts were on high alert. He knew something wasn't right but just what that something was he didn't know.

This is when they saw their first zombie. A woman who was so badly injured there was no way she should be walking or even alive. But walking she was right toward them. Connor shot her in the uninjured leg but once down she kept dragging herself toward he and James. Connor then shot her in the heart. She still kept coming. Connor shot her in the head and she truly died. Connor told James a head shot is the only way to kill these things and he made sure James understood that he had Connor's back and would take those head shots. Now they were both headed to get their parents, family and a few close friends head for Alaska on a plane that Connor flew. The remote location their lodge was in should keep them all safe from the Zombies.

Emmet Wolf was a home when the news broke about what was going on in Texas. Wolf knew his former father in law was the cause. Its something he learned a year ago when he quit his job. The job being head of security for Lifework the company the man owned. He never thought this day would come but now it was here.

Emmet was forty years old and in great shape. His F-450 was black and had many revisions. It was a Super Duty and had been up armored, had bullet proof glass and was in every way a vehicle he could depend on. It was a vehicle he hoped would help them survive. Wolf headed out to get his ex wife and daughter.

What he found when he arrived was dead zombies and George, Jane's husband with a shotgun. They obviously have had their first taste of the zombie apocalypse.

George was coughing and hacking and didn't look well at all. Emmet saw a bite mark on his arm and knew George would become one of the walking dead. Jane wouldn't let Emmet shoot George so Emmet loaded them all up in his truck and headed out knowing full well that he would be killing George as soon as he turned. He kept his eye on George the whole time.

Emmet's twenty year old daughter Alexis was more than happy to see her dad. A Dad who had taught her all about guns and how to use them. He taught her how to defend herself.

Emmett took all of them with him as he headed North. Emmet had been a marine in his younger years and when he left the Corp he went into private security which is how he got the job at Lifework. It was also how he learned what was going to happen. It was something he hoped never would happen but he had prepared his vehicle just in case it did.

So begins one damned fine read.

This one has James, Connor, Emmett, Alexis, Jane, a Jane who doesn't believe a word Emmet says, George, a George Emmet will kill, a James and Connor who head for their parents ranch in Texas, a Dad they will fine in the barn surrounded by the dead he killed, the dead aren't zombies but living men, men who are marked with a red X both front and back, an X that's made with human blood, a Dad who tells them their mother has been taken, a Dad who dies, a James and Connor who head out to find Mom, an Emmet and daughter who come to the town of Haven, a Haven that isn't a Haven at all, a psycho of a priest, drugged dinner, an Enmet who wakes up in a basement, a daughter who will be sacrificed to the zombies, a James and Connor who arrive after finding their Mother dead, a James and Connor who killed every one of the red X men they could find, a James and Connor who kill the priest and anyone with a gun, an Alexis who frees her Father, a meeting between Emmet, James and Connor all of who decide to go their separate ways and Emmet, Alexis, James and Connor doing their best to save who they can, say alive and survive.

I have to be honest. This was not a good book. While I didn't notice any blaring grammatical mistakes, the writing quality was poor. I'm not a published author, and won't claim to be anything more than average, but the way the sentences were put together was awkward with a lot of passive writing.
-My biggest problem with the book, was the two brother's attitude. They were far too happy to be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. The book read more like the author's zombie fantasy than an actual book.
-In contrast all the women were scared and came across as naive and/or stupid.
-The insane detail with the guns was infuriating. The author spent half the book describing the weapons they used and didn't find it important to describe their surroundings in a post apocalyptic scenario.
-The religious aspect was just strange. It's a zombie book.
-There were plot holes.
-I struggled to finish this book. There were only three scenes in the entire book that I found interesting.
I think the writer improved as he progressed through the book, and hopefully his books improve as he progresses through his career.

Juvenile 9th grade style characters and dialog. Constant branding of all their equipment, even though most of it was basically mall ninja trash. Kryptek must be sponsoring this book because the brand is mentioned 8 times in the first 50% of the book. I have no problem reading books by or about people of faith, I DO have a problem being beat over the head with constant preaching and the brothers stopping in the middle of battle to hold hands and pray? Sorry, just too much for me. The fight scenes were just too unbelievable, dropped me out of "suspension of disbelief" multiple times. Problem is I've been in battle on 3 continents and this was just to much crap to take.
This is the single WORST Zombie Apocalypse, Post Apocalypse anything I've had the misfortune to waste my time on. I got the book off the store for free on July 16th and I paid way too much.

I certainly don't get all the 5 star reviews unless it's friends and family. It's hard to know where to begin this book is so bad. The author must have been paid extra for every time he put "bro" in the dialogue. Speaking of dialogue if you like lines like "... as they looked at themselves in the mirror James stated 'we're two bad-ass zombie hunting bros'" or "James pulled out his semi-auto Bushmaster AR-15 calibrated for supersonic rounds with a 15cm wind suppressed flange and flashlight rail combo silencer and foregrip that had a Nicon 4x15 night vision laser light self correcting scope with a polymer stackable reversible 30 round magazine recoil-less rifle with collapsing stock and telephoto wi-fi connection and made a head shot on the zombie coming toward him while hanging upside down from a flagpole whistling La Cucaracha." then this is the book for you. Yes that 2nd quote was exaggerated.... but not by much. In a 200 page book using paragraphs to describe one rifle and a Molle vest is excessive. Aside from the 2 "badass zombie hunting bros" there's another generic character who put $300,000 into his truck...just in case. I've already wasted enough time on this story but I will leave you with one last parting thought. Reading this story I kept thinking it was written by a 9th grade aspiring comic book writer. It's an adolescent vision of what a zombie apocalypse should look like on his gaming console.

If you want a decent read try David Simpson Zombie Road, title and cover art are a little goofy but the story is really good. There's also Peter Meredith Apocalypse Crusade Days 1 through 4 which gives a better representation of what a real zombie apocalypse would look like.

Pros: characters, storyline, lack of foul language, no mistakes in spelling and only a couple of grammar errors

Cons: stilted dialogue, oft-repeated problems and solutions

Author could have benefitted from a better editor, so the half star was due to his effort to offer a good book.

I am really surprised that more people aren't into zombie stories and the genre in general since there are so many mindless people in this world. We just don't refer to them as zombies. With that said, I found the story laughable. The author keeps referencing the makes and models of everything from scopes to butt stocks to rifles and MRE's. If one didn't know any better you would think he was a paid sponsor of their products. Unfortunately, the attention to detail in the story itself is lacking. Like another reviewer commented, they didn't even take the time to bury their dead parents despite their claims to abiding by their God's teachings. It doesn't lack action and for that I give it 2 stars. It does lack emotion, but then, zombies are rather unemotional.

The Brother's Creed is one of my new favorite series. I discovered Joshua Chadd on Instafreebie. Conner and James return from a hunting trip to discover that something is very wrong. It is not long before they realize that they are in the middle of a zombie Apocalypse. However, like only two country boys can be they are well prepared with a stock pile of weapons and Conner, a former Marine, are prepared for the what is to come or so they think. They have a plan to meet up with their parents and then head up to Alaska. On another part of the country is Emmett who knows exactly what is going on and has been preparing for this day for over a year. He heads out to gather his daughter, ex-wife and her husband with a plan to head north as well. Both groups encounter more danger than the undead as they head towards their destinations and each other.

When I first began this book I was unsure of the character James and Conner I found them a bit juvenile but I believe that was Joshua point. As the book progresses you see a growth in James and Conner forged by the circumstances they endure and how they begin to define themselves in this new world. What is also unusual but what I really enjoy is the element of faith in this book and I hope to see in the rest of the series. James and Conner come from a family of faith and you see how the brothers deal with their faith and even question it as they try to make sense of the chaos around them.

There is also a great relationship between Emmet and his daughter Alexis and how that closeness and dependency on each other plays a role in this new wolds.

This was a great and quick read that at the end I was ready to start the next book in the series to see what was next on their journey. In this book you can defiantly see the writer passions for faith, the outdoors and his knowledge of weaponry which lend to make for great story telling. If you are not big on weaponry detail don't let that deter you from what is a great undead story about the love, loss, and family of the living.

Okay, I read a lot of zombie fiction. I mean a lot, perhaps more than is good for me... Having said that, I always enjoy when an author imparts their own spin to a zombie tale; whether that be fast zombies, strong zombies, fast and strong zombies, religious zombies, or evolutionary zombies, I like them all. Sometimes though I just want a zombie story to be simply a zombie story, a "Romero" zombie story, for lack of a better phrase. Slow, unthinking, "regular" zombies, if they can be called that. Outbreak by Joshua C. Chadd fits that bill like a glove. Now I know this is a first novel so is it perfect? No it is not but what truly is perfect? Nothing. But boy is this story fun, I mean as much fun as a death-filled apocalypse can be. The character development is a little slim, but it progresses naturally as each individual comes to grips with their own conscious and sub-conscious decisions regarding the new world in which they find themselves.
I also enjoyed the fact that I could read a a zombie story without seeing the F-word in every other phrase and the gore was kept to a minimum. Now don't go thinking that Mr. Chadd went light on the details, he most certainly did not but I feel he used the "less is more" school of thought and let the reader's imagination do the rest. Also, Mr. Chadd is not shy about ripping a character away from the reader. I don't want to give anything away but there were a couple of times where I said to myself, "wow, that's messed up."
All in all, if you want to read a rollicking good zombie story where the good guys were actually prepared and there are plenty of headshots then buy this book, you won't be sorry. I literally could not stop reading.

This is not normally the sort of book I would read but I decided to give it a go and found it to be a quick and easy read. Once I had started reading the story, it was easy to keep going until I finished the book.

The characters are interesting and have a passion for guns, shooting prairie dogs, and their faith. But in this case, they end up shooting a lot more than just prairie dogs.

Zombie apocalypse thrillers certainly seem to be popular but this one seems to have a unique twist, making it stand out from the crowd, so well done to Joshua Chadd. The author is a Christian and blends his Christian beliefs into the story of families trying to survive a zombie apocalyptic world. He also touches on the complicated issues families would have to deal with destroying these creatures. I would recommend this book to those who like reading fast-paced Christian fiction - specifically zombie thrillers.

There were no major spelling or grammatical errors in this book, let me say first. Which is, honestly, the best part. I like the idea behind the story, but I struggled with reading it.

- the characters aren't well developed or established, which at times makes their actions confusing and jarring
- the story has some really meandering, drawn out parts that could easily be shortened as they are not important to the overall story
- the author seems more concerned with overdescribing things and brand names than moving the story along, which leaves the story stagnant in places, and little room for the reader's imagination

The struggle that the characters go through after loosing so much draw you in. I imagine that if a eotwawki event happened how many of us would struggle as the characters in the book do. The author gives such a great view of the emotional struggles of his characters that you forget they are not real people going through these horrible events.

From a storyline standpoint, this is one of the best end-of-the-world books I have read. The author is able to switch between the point of view of two families struggling for survival, intertwining them at just the right moment. The result is the creation of a seemingly plausible alternate reality - not an easy task when Zombies are involved.

Warnings: Some religious content and a lot of details on guns.

First off, I honestly didn't think I was really going to enjoy this book, just because it involved zombies. Well, I was wrong. This is a fantastic post-apocalyptic novel.

The characters are great, and It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering who would come out of this book alive. The scenery was eerie, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Dark at times, but broken up nicely with well-placed humor.

I ended up listening to this on audiobook, since my paperback/kindle to-be-read pile is STACKED, and I'm a slow reader. But, the narrator blew me away.

Can't wait to read book two! :)

James and Connor Andderson return from a hunting trip on the family’s Montana ranch to find a country in chaos. A rogue virus is turning the infected into zombies. The brothers’ goal is a remote hunting camp in Alaska, but first they have to reach their parents in Nebraska. Along the way they encounter good people, bad people, and of course, zombies. As Christians, James and Connor struggle with who and when to help, when is it right to kill, who can they trust?
You don’t need the author’s weapons expertise or familiarity with zombie apocalypse games and music to enjoy these action-driven books. Some profanity.

Author sets premise by letting us know that something is wrong in America. A town in Texas reports grisly murders then goes dark. State troopers go in and do not report back. Guards go in now videos are surfacing along with stories of the dead coming back. Other towns report similar incidents. All within a couple of days. The older brother admits this is getting serious and thinks the news is lying when it says all the incidents are unrelated and about power outages.

Despite all that, the two brothers decide to go ahead with their plan to go to "the farm" for prairie dog & coyote hunting. They call parents to let them know about their hunting plans. The boys are told to "have fun and not worry about us". "This will blow over". And they do.

YOU'RE FIRED, BOYS!!! Most books would have our heroes trying to save their parents and everyone else they can and go from there.

But hey I'm open to the impossible. Not every character is meant to survive, just give them a little purpose or something.

Not wild about the condescending tone towards the women of this story. And why do they all get killed as soon as the men look away? Maybe this author could give us out due and make the females just a little more able to take care of themselves. Maybe even rescue a guy once in a while. Also didn't care for the slaughtering of animals just for fun in the beginning. Real men respect the gift of life and protect it. All for hunting as long as one says what they kill.

Decent zombie book , the author tends to over explain a lot . Also it was fairly easy to guess what was coming in the next scene. Character's didn't have much depth . dialogue was pretty unbelievable as if the author assumed that's how real soldiers talked ? way too much bro this and bro that ? I mean honestly who talks like that ? No one ! All in all not a great book but not bad either , won't read the next one though.

Zombies. Guns. Skills. These brothers have it all. The groups portrayed in this novel puts forth a probable real life scenario if the zombie apocolypse was ever a thing. Groups of peoples with different skill sets at war with each other because fo the fear of the unknown monsters. The author did a good job at telling the story of the peoples involved.

These aren't books peruse, more like partial episodes. Which is kind of a rip off if you're paying real money.

The plot line is good. The writing is above average but not great. Don't know if it's a regional syntax issue of bad editing but the word structure is a bit off. For example when one of the characters asks the other his job he says "I guide". Guide what? Hunters? Blind people? You figure out from inference that he means they he is a hunting guide but it's awkward phraseology. There is a lot of that in both this and the next book. Actually it's merely the next chapter.

Not much character development. A lot of "I would prefer not to talk about it" moments. The weapons and tactics discussions are voyage and amateurish. All in all a 2 star effort.

Solid, likeable characters and a story that moves along nicely. One of my favorite things about this book is that the main characters are also decent people that are pragmatic in how they approach surviving in a Z-pocalypse. (No overdone navel-gazing before doing what is necessary.)b

Fun read and I'm looking forward to the next book!

Joshua Chadd’s Outbreak (The Brother’s Creed) (Volume 1) exists to please a very specific kind of audience, and that audience has a huge overlap with those who play zombie first-person shooter games. The only parts of the book that come alive are the loving descriptions of weaponry and how it’s used.

That’s pretty much the theme of the entire book. There’s nothing new in here other than the weaponry fetish. The characters are flimsy, the dialogue is awful, and even though I got to read this for free through Kindle Unlimited, it wasn’t worth the time spent. I only finished reading the book so I could review it, and there isn’t much to say.

good book, decent pace but dont get too attached to side characters :x the only thing i wish was described a little better are the zombie characteristics, mostly they seem slow but then hear them lunging at people and get a little confused :/.. all in all 5/5 book

Have read many books and seen many tv shows n film in the zombie genre. It's a genre that tends to be a little overstuffed.

However, Outbreak is a breath of fresh air. It's an original tale with fantastic believable characters. The story moved at a great pace. Honestly, I started reading it and before I knew it - I had reached the end. Eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this trilogy of books.

I'm more disappointed in the people who gave this book 5 stars than I am in the book, but not by much. Bad dialogue, poor story development, and the feeling I should never depend on the store ratings left me very disappointed. Could not even finish due to lack of interest.

I really enjoyed this book, it was not only action packed, but the best part was NO bad language. I love the zombie books, but in most the bad language is a real turn off. Very refreshing to see that a story can be written without profanity.

Not sure how honest of a review I can give since I stopped reading pretty quick, pretty much after the line about 'CCN, they never tell the truth'. Was pretty clear this book would have soon have some heroic military obsessed guys who were held back by a cowardly, liberal politician. They would be talk of calibers and things attached to rails, steely gazes and chiseled builds, and women who couldn't help but feel attracted to the strong silent types behind those chiseled gazes.

I love Zombie books. And this one is a good one. The characters are developed and interesting. It moves fast paced and has lots of action. A good amount of twist and zombies. Looking forward to the next in the series. Thank you Joshua for the great read.

This is the start of a great series ?. This end of days story is absolutely one of the best I have read, and this is only book one. The characters are great, great flow, and of course, as stated, the plot is a winner. Come on with the next in this series!!!?

I don’t know what to say other than “GET THIS BOOK” if you love anything zombie. I’ve read dozens of zombie novels and this is one of the best I’ve read. There is edge of your seat action and heart breaking tragedy and a little bit of humor! I can’t wait to grab the other books in the series!

Meh. I’m hanging in there, but there’s WAY too much time spent on inconsequential details and theres a little too much “corny”. For example, the whole “bad brothers for life” stuff. If you really just enjoy a post apoc/zombie story and are willing to overlook the things I’ve mentioned then it’s a way to pass the time. If you’re more of a Nicholas Sansbury Smith type of reader, avoid this. You’d swear it was co-written by a 12 year old.
