Again Nalini Singh writes to keep you interested. Read the book in two days. I won't get into the characters, for I would like you, the reader, to see them with you own thoughts & mind. But as always, the women are strong, independent and full of love. The men are the same but very respectful of the women in the story.
I know you will enjoy reading about Bowen and Kaia.

This book was amazing and has completely exceded my expectations! When Nalini first brought in BlackSea in the first part of her series, I was always hoping the next book would final take into their world. It did not disappoint and on top of that we final get Bowens story too! The Psy/Changeling series is one of my favorites, im always telling my friends to start this one, and I can not wait for the the next part in this trinity series.

Could not finish. Not sure how this passed any beta reader or editor. It drags. Characters are boring and world building is non existent. Deleted it even if I couldn't get a refund. This could not be the same author who wrote Silver Silence. @$13.99 too. Save your money. No longer an automatic buy for me.

I really enjoyed reading this. I ordered it the day before it came out, but didn't read it until almost a month after just for the build up of anticipation. It did not disappoint. The only problem now is waiting for the next book.

As expected from Nalini Singh... Just wished there was more of a gripping story and depth of emotion evoked here... unlike per previous books esp Kaleb's and Sahara's. This book and the premise here has so much potential too...

Mere words can hardly describe the awesomeness of this book. Unfortunately, people unfamiliar with the Psy-Changeling series won't understand the depth and breadth of the story, which makes it completely worthwhile to read the entire series before delving into this book. Silver Silence ended with a soap opera worthy cliff hanger in terms of Bowen Knight's condition. Luckily, the opening pages of Ocean Light lay that mystery to rest and set the stage for a phenomenal continuation of the series. All of the characters are complex and realistic, their personal histories and motivations as complicated and multi-faceted as any you'd find in real life. The world building is top notch, with layers of intrigue and enough detail to keep the action heart-stoppingly real. For the first time, we get an in-depth, behind the scenes peak at the inner workings of the enigmatic, aquatic changelings of BlackSea. Kaia, and her immediate draw to Bowen, form the basis of the introduction to the varied and colorful undersea life of the diverse group. Looking at their world was fascinating and I could easily see many avenues for continued forays into their world in future works. As usual, I devoured the book in great, hungry gulps within days of its release. Now the long, relentless wait for the next installment begins.

This series just keeps getting better with every book! I've read many paranormal romance books and none have characters with such soul deep and passionate connections like those of this series. It's an amazing world to visit.

An emotional roller coaster from start to finish, betrayal, love, science and family. Above all, the prevailing trend was remembering where you come from, and taking that into the future in a positive way.

I have been a huge fan of Singh's Pay-Changeling world since I first read Slave to Sensation. I love the way the author brings back characters into each new story. Another great read! Thanks Ms. Singh!

When I finished this book, I put it down and wondered if I'd gotten a bad download, due to the editing issues. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are fine, but the pacing alternates between rushed in places and dragging in others. There's also one spot near the beginning (between chapters eight and nine) where the scene shifts so abruptly that I thought there was a chapter missing. Also, a two minute Google search would have sufficed as enough research to avoid the rather glaring error that dolphins do not have gills and even magic dolphins would likely be uncomfortable swimming in deep sea conditions where they can't surface easily for air. That error in particular gave me the impression of two drafts that had been mashed together with pieces of one and elements of the other, but had never been edited into a cohesive whole. This was a huge disappointment, since it felt like this story simply wasn't entirely sure of what it was driving at, or what it wanted to be.

The characterization is also a mess. I think both of these characters are supposed to be moving past trauma while finding love and healing together. Unfortunately, Bowen Knight's trauma is given lip service, since being angry for not being told that She's Not Just A Changeling, is apparently unreasonable and he moves past it with only a chapter or so of sulking. Whereas Kaia's trauma is what's driving the entire story - driving it right off a cliff. There have been plenty of characters with trauma in this series who have emerged as damaged, but ultimately decent people doing their best in a world where it would be very easy to become cruel. Kaia, on the other hand, cannot handle losing people. At all. She becomes catatonic, and when she's not catatonic she's angry, cruel and tribal. (Not exactly sterling qualities in the part of the series titled "Trinity")

I'm also throughly sick of the "mating bond" not only being used as a framing device for every single romance (regardless of whether one or both members of the couple are changeling), but being used as a reason why two characters are falling in love when their behavior would suggest that neither of them would give the other the time of day without it, as is the case with the leads of Ocean's Light.

All in all, I was immensely disappointed with this book and returned it for a refund, despite having every other book in the series. These books are no longer "auto buys" for me.

I very much enjoyed the journey into the Black Sea clan. Getting a closer look at the way their lives are different from other changlings and the similarities makes for a wonderful twist in the stoty.

Well one of the reasons I don't write books (outside of that no talent and no imagination thing) is that I have no patience, I would have all bad guys dead by page 10 and wonder "where do I go from here". Fortunately Nalini Singh does not suffer from any of those afflictions and we have a story that manages to have drama, romance, loyalty and my favorite, violence all thrown together in a story to warm the heart while making the blood boil for those who suffer and takes us along on a pace that changes to suit the scene.

First of all my memory is terrible and I spent several chapters while reading trying to remember if Bowen had been thought dead in any previous books but since I was too lazy to go back and research it I finally decided it really did not matter (and it did not). Suffice it to say he was pretty much dead when we start this book and some medical miracle are the only thing keeping him alive and those might not be enough.

Then Kaia enters the scene and pretty much hates him on sight which always makes for a good story in the hands of a talented writer. We have a slow romance with a touch of insta-love thrown in but not too heavy handed (meaning there is no "MINE" moment just minutes after they meet). He will have to work at this one IF he manages to live long enough which does not look all that promising.

Enter a subplot of some residents of BlackSea disappearing over the last few months and it looks like humans (specifically the organization Bowen heads up) might be behind it.

Throw in a couple of hints, some red herrings, a bevy of suspects with a good mystery and along with an excellent romance you have a 5 Star story (which I actually rated 4.5).

We do get a slight bit more than a cameo of our favorite Psy - Kaleb Krycheck (who I personally love because he pretty much kills anyone who ever did Sahara wrong in any way LOL) but we do get a cameo of Sahara also towards the end. They obviously add to any book they are mentioned. We also get a really short cameo of Hawke just to add a bit of flavor into the story in how outsiders actually see him which I found interesting since we all still have Kiss of Snow in our heads which warps out viewpoint a bit.

My only minor complaint (go back and read paragraph 1) is that everybody I wanted to kill was not dead at the end of the book . I am assured there will be justice for all since this is actually book #17 of this series it is also book #2 of a trilogy with a bit of an overarching plot, so I can hardly wait to see where it goes from here. I did love the way she handled everything so there is nothing that resembles a cliffhanger but does leave a thread or two to make you want the next book immediately.

The watery habitat of the BlackSea clan of Changelings is the setting for the latest Psy-Changeling novel, aptly named Ocean Light. This is the story of Bowen and Kaia.

Positive
I appreciated the slow building romance between Bowen and Kaia. It was refreshing to read about a relationship developing slowly rather than jumping straight to Insta-love. I also appreciated the appearance of past characters. Last, but not least, there is a HEA.

Negative
I was looking forward to reading this book because I liked Silver Silence and love the Guild Hunter series by Ms. Singh. I have not read anything by the author that I didn't enjoy, until now. This novel just didn't grab my attention. I seem to be one of only a handful, at the time of this review, that had the same experience. I also didn't get any spark between Bowen and Kaia. That lack, in all fairness, could be the result of my life intruding on the story. (The nerve);)

Simply put, if you like paranormal romance, shifters, psychics, magic, and humans, too, then this book may be for you.

I would like to thank First To Read program for giving me early access to an advance reading copy of this book.

If I was just reviewing the audio book narration Angela Dawes would get five stars, unfortunately I’m not. When I first read PsyChangeling years ago I knew who the bad guys were, the off the rails murderous PSY. Then tention was always high in the books and romance always hot. This book is unfortunately filled with too much talk, with mediocre action that is filled into the last quarter of the book. The book felt disjointed and even repetitive at times. Plot points are never resolved. Conflicts and danger seemed haphazardly executed. The romantic conflict seemed silly. With most of the book taking place in an undersea habitat it also felt isolating.
I loved the Psy Changeling, but the magic is no longer in the books, as Trinity is boring.
The excellent narrator could not save this book from being a snooze fest.

A tale of underwater changelings and the human who volunteered to be their science experiment.

Bowan has been a character that I’ve had mixed feeling about in prior books of this series. I didn’t get all of Bo’s motivations to put a dangerous experimental chip in his head that protects him from psy manipulation but is also killing him slowly as well. Ocean’s Light digs into Bo’s head literally and we learn not only why the leader of the human alliance is so committed to the group but what it has cost him.

Kaia is the sweetest sea changeling and takes care of everyone. She is the mother figure for everyone on the underwater site that Bowan was taken to in hopes of finding a way to save him from the degrading chip in his head. There is something about the wounded human that calls to her and it is the first time she has felt a pull this strong to another being.

The attraction between the pair starts off really strong and immediately. Sure it is a little fast but Bowan might only have weeks to live so there is no time like the present. As always with this series the story is heavy on the romance front but there is a bit of action in this more towards the end. Since this is our first journey under the sea Nalini spends a lot of time oh how the culture of the water changelings works and some of the very cool things you can do in an underwater base.

All the action came closer to the end. It seems that some are not happy about some Psy, Changeling and Humans trying to build bonds together and they are trying to sabotage the newly made bonds. It looks like there might be multiple races working together to bring down The Trinity and it gets a bit nail bitey for a little while.

There are some great but short cameos by series favorites including Mercy, Kit, Vasek and Ivy as well as Kaleb and Sahara.

Ocean’s Light is the second book of a spin off series to Nalini Sing’s Psy-Changling series. You could also think of it as Psy-Changling #17 instead. While I don’t think you need to have read all 16 of the other books of the series to understand or enjoy the story I do think that you should definitely read Silver Silence before starting this journey.

Audio:

For me Angela Dawe is Psy-Changeling. I can’t think of one without the other after listening to over 17 books with her voice. She does a fantastic job of conveying the emotion of this series so well and I have liked every performance by her for this series.

I agree with the people who have said this book was slow, and they had to fast forward through some of the pages to get to where there was some action. I have always loved Nalini Singh's books because we always have a love story, and we have action. This book lacks the action, and I was one of the ones fast forwarding through some of the pages because it was boring and slow, in order to get to where the story had some movement. I liked getting to know more about the Black Sea Changelings, but I would have liked to know more about their leader Miane. I think this will be the last of the Trinity Books that I read. It was a disappointment, and I also wasn't too happy with Silver Silence. I hope she gets back to books about Dark River and Snow Dancer Changelings. I really love those books.

Ocean Light by Nalini Singh is the 2nd book in her Psy Changeling Trinity series. Nalini Singh continues to be one of my top favorite authors, as I love the Psy-Changeling series, now her spinoff series, Trinity and of course, Singh’s Guild Hunter series. No one does world building so smoothly and flawlessly better than Nalini Singh. Once again, in Ocean Light from the start Nalini grabs hold of me and never ever lets go until the very end. The sad part of this, is that I can’t put it down and read it too fast; but it’s fun to go back and reread it as I can savor it slowly. I have said this so many times, if you have not read Nalini Singh, you are missing such a gem of an author.

In Ocean Light, Bowen Knight is our hero; someone that in previous books, was more the enemy than a friend. But with the end of Silence, enemies will begin to bond and work together to fight off the Consortium, who are trying to destroy the new found peace between the Changelings, Human Alliance and Psy. When we last saw Bowen, he was shot and thought dead; when he wakes up, he has no idea where he is. Dr. Atalina Kahananui explains that he is in Black Sea (water changelings) territory and they have been working to save his life. She reminds him of the chip many humans have in their brain which prevents Psy intrusion, but the chip is close to failure. They might have a cure, but it is very risky, as the chip will soon break and kill him. Bowen agrees to allow them to test the possible serum that the Doctor has been working on, which only has a 5% chance of survival, but as low as that percentage is, it is still better than sure death. He will be the guinea pig to save his friends and other humans.

Kaia Luna is Attie’s (Dr. Atalina) cousin, and part of her family. She is an empath, as well as a scientist, which she gave up awhile ago to become a chef. Kaia enjoys cooking, she is very popular, as everyone loves her. To help a pregnant Attie, Kaia makes sure to help monitor Bowen, and happens to be there when he awoke. While talking to Attie, Bowen senses the cold angry feelings coming from Kaia, as well as an attraction he cannot understand. He will learn that her best friend is missing, and is feared to have been taken by the Alliance. When Bowen explains his people would never do that, he sets out to get proof who is kidnapping people from Black Sea.

In a short time, despite her contempt toward humans, whom she blames for the death of her family, Kaia will begin to see Bowen in another light, and her attraction to him grows stronger with each passing day. Time is of essence, as Bowen only has weeks for the serum to be injected. Will Bowen survive?

What follows is a beautiful romance between two unlikely people, with so much chemistry between them that sizzles the pages. I loved Bowen and Kaia together, and felt her pain, as she falls very much in love with him, knowing she could lose him soon. Bowen is a strong leader, and is determined to help find the traitor who is hurting Black Sea, and at the same time show Kaia how much he loves her. This was a wonderful romance, though very emotional. Kaia was such a wonderful, caring, loyal, fun loving heroine, who also has her own issues (phobia) that limits her. You couldn’t help but love her, just as all the members of Black Sea did.

The last third of the book was very exciting and tense trying to find the traitor within the Alliance, and also in Black Sea. When Kaia becomes a victim, Bowen will go to any length to try and find her, which could have consequences later. It was also great to get to see some of our favorites make short visits to help Black Sea and Bowen. To say too much more would be spoilers, and you need to read this book from the start.

I can’t say enough about Nalini Singh, as she never fails to captivate me with her engaging stories, which keeps our interest from beginning to end; wonderful couples in each and every story; super secondary characters and fantastic world-building. Ocean Light was a great romance, but also a tense suspenseful story trying to survive and find those responsible for the kidnappings. Once again, if you have not read the Psy-Changeling series, you need to go back and start with the first book, you will not be sorry; it is a fantastic adventure that we are happy is continuing in the Trinity arc.

Ever since it was discovered that the chip some humans had implanted in order to prevent Psy mind invasion has an expiration date, Bowen Knight, leader of the Human Alliance, has been searching for a fix. Unfortunately, being a prominent figure, he didn't get very far before he was targeted by those opposed to the Trinity Accords and what they stand for.

Saved by the changelings of BlackSea, Bo seemingly gets another chance at life, albeit in the form of an experiment. Bo agrees to let the BlackSea scientists study the implant and see if they can figure out a way to keep it from self-destruction. Luckily he's protected under the guise of lab rat, because when proof surfaces that the Human Alliance might be behind the vanishings that have been happening within BlackSea he's quickly considered persona non grata especially by Kaia Luna who's childhood friend has recently become one of the missing which reminds her of the similar loss of her parents at a young age, and hurts her deep within her soul.

However much Kaia wants to keep her impressions of Bo restricted to that of enemy, she can't help also being drawn to him. As she gets to know him, she begins to realize that he would never be a part of such a heinous plot. What also becomes clear is that there is a traitor somewhere in their midst, and with time counting down on Bo's chip remaining viable, they'll have to work fast.

Ocean Light is the second book in Nalini Singh's new story arc within her Psy-Changeling world and we finally get a BlackSea changeling book! I have been waiting and waiting for a BlackSea book since they were first introduced what feels like eons ago and Nalini Singh also took this opportunity to tie up some of the more pervasive story threads that have been running in the background for quite a few books now. Namely, the vanishings within BlackSea and the human mind chip malfunctions.

I felt like Ocean Light took the opportunity to resolve and / or make a big headway in resolving these things without adding extra layers as previous books in this series have done. For example, the vanishings themselves were a side story in a previous book (I'm sorry I can't recall which book at this time) in the series, but there's really none of that here. Instead the focus remains on the missing changelings and trying to figure out a way to help the humans with the implants, which also intertwines Kaia and Bo's own stories as they are effected by what's going on.

While I enjoyed the story overall, I found it took me a little bit longer to get into it than previous books. I don't know if it was the more sedate feeling pacing - despite Bo's brain being on a countdown - with much of the solving of the mystery happening closer to the end, or the fact that it takes Kaia a little bit to fully open herself up to Bo that had me taking my time with it. There's so much dedicated time to BlackSea, I almost felt like other pressing matters (i.e. The Consortium) in the Psy-Changeling world fell away for the moment.

Regardless, I loved that most of the action takes place in BlackSea. It really hits home how different BlackSea's world is even from other changeling groups. The sea below is so vast and unknown. I feel like we've only broken the surface of this changeling group and I hope Nalini Singh doesn't make us wait too long before we get to revisit them.

It's been awhile since we've had a human and changeling pairing, but I felt like Kaia and Bo really embodied the world this series has become after everything that happened in the first story arc now with the start of the new trilogy. I don't want to say too much more because Nalini Singh takes her time developing these characters, especially Kaia, but I really loved their romance. It felt really different from what I'm used to reading in this series, yet it's still incontrovertibly the Psy-Changeling world.

As I said, I hope this book is a starting off point to get even more stories about BlackSea. Like with DarkRiver and SnowDancer, there are secondary characters who beg to have their own stories revealed, and as I said, the sea is so vast. Plus, there are some undeniable repercussions I can see arising from events in this book, I can't wait to see where we go next!

Second in the Psy-Changeling Trinity spin-off paranormal romance series (and seventeenth in the Psy-Changeling universe). The couple focus is on Kaia Luna and Bowen Knight in 2083. It takes place shortly after Silver Silence , 1 (16).

My Take
Ocean Light is a story with a wide range of conflicts. Yep, there are the story conflicts dealing with betrayal, sabotage, loss of family and/or innocence, the actions between characters, and then there are the conflicts within the individual. One has character flaws that is a set-up for betrayal while another has a childish anger that is misapplied...big time. Yet another has a phobia that erupted in childhood.

It starts off with a great hook, as Bowen tries to understand this world of the dead. Lucky for him, he's smart. Even luckier for him, Kaia is a sensitive and compassionate woman. Through these two primary characters, Singh conveys the underlying message that there are good and bad in every (and any) segment of a population. Greed, fear, anger, a need for vengeance, but also love, caring, compassion.

Horrible things have happened to both Kaia and Bowen in their childhoods, enough to make them hate humans in Kaia's case and Psy in Bowen's. Yet, they both are intelligent and compassionate beings who also see the good in their enemies. But those same commonalities bring me to my whines about all this whining. Oh, that's not fair, neither of them actually whine, but they do go on and on and on about it. That long-drawn out tease as to what happened to Bo and Cassius when they were thirteen was annoying in its slap-upside-the-head crudeness — all this lead-up and yet, when Singh finally "reveals all", it's flat. I should have felt something. I should have at least wanted to cry. Kaia's late reveal of her own trauma could also have used more emotion. And I don't mean her going on and on about her hesitation in being with Bo, which got to be irritating. As for that insta-love Bowen falls into…*eye roll*…cheesy.

I do wish Singh had played this up more, made us feel what the characters are enduring. Lord knows, George's own traumas are horrible, but there was that lack of show again that left me uninvolved. I hate that. I suspect Singh thought that using third person dual point-of-view would be sufficient for the emotional side of the story, but…no, although that Polynesian flavor with the flower Kaia wears behind her ear and some common Hawaiian words with all that passion about family did help. And here I go...whining on about too much tell and not enough show. Now I'm annoying!

Future-wise, Singh is setting us up for Tansy's and Seraphina's romances. Then there's Auntie Natia's epigram about healing. Sounds like Singh is really spreading those Psy-Changeling wings. Another positive in the Psy-Changeling series is that warm sense of family and love throughout the different changeling groups. This is the first book that dealt very deeply with the water changelings, and they're just as cozy as the others. A good thing, as Ocean Light felt a bit cold, mostly due to the lack of show. Lord knows there was enough going on that it should have been a hotbed of emotion, but...no. For all the drama talked about, I didn't feel any tension until nearly the end when Bo's "death sentence" suddenly drops to mere hours.

I did appreciate the restriction Singh set up on one of the core characters in this story that has everyone hopping around her. It creates some interesting restrictions as well as forcing characters into unexpected roles and choices. And yes, I did enjoy that ending, as Singh continues to ramp up those familial feelings.

The Story
Shot, gone, status unknown. No one knows where Bowen Knight is, whether he lives or has died, and the Human Alliance, humanity's hope against the changelings and the Psy, is disintegrating.

And Bowen Knight has only weeks to live. Unless…

The water changelings have their own terrors, for someone is kidnapping their own, disappearing them, and it must be one of their own betraying them. Unless…

Worse, there are rumors circulating of Bowen's true actions, evidence uncovered of his collusion, and questions about the Alliance Fleet.
The Characters
Once a physician, Kaia "Siren" Luna much prefers the kitchen to the operating table. She's a lover, not a fighter and many look to her for comfort. Hex Luna the 7th is her pet white genius mouse. She and her parents were known as the Lunatics. Dr Elenise Luna had given herself to struggling clinics all over the world while her father, Iosef, had been a lyricist, fascinated by the arts. Bebe, a turtle and Kaia's many-greats-grandmother, is well over 230 years old.

The Human Alliance is…
…actually led by Bowen Knight, officially the security chief, while Giovanni Somme is its public head. Bowen's Knights are his nine closest friends and compatriots and include: Lily, his younger sister in absolutely everything but blood; his best friend and second-in-command is Cassius; Heenali Roy is his third-in-command and in charge of the Alliance Fleet; Zeb will step up; Ajax; and, Domenica.

Trey Gunther is Heenali's ex-human boyfriend. Adrian Kenner was the eighteenth century human peace negotiator who brought an end to the territorial wars. He was also an ancestor of Bowen's. Pippi is a Psy child in Venice.

Leah and Jerard Knight are his loving parents. Toric the Destroyer was the name of Bo's hamster. Cece is Bowen's scary grandmother.

BlackSea is…
…the world of the water changelings based in Lantia, an undersea city in the North Atlantic Ocean; Cifica is another major city. Huh. It wasn't until I was doing a final proof that it hit me. Lantia for Atlantic and Cifica for Pacific. Must be some kind'a climate change in their world, since Lantia doesn't sound like it's that cold...and the Polynesian references and Japanese names that threw me off. They are led by Miane Levèque, their First. Malachai Rhys is her second-in-command and Kaia's cousin on the maternal side. Commander Geraldine Rhys, one of Kaia's aunts, is to help organize the chase. Rani is a healer.

The Kahananuis are Kaia's cousins with whom she was raised. Attie has five younger brothers with Edison, the oldest, an explorer for BlackSea; Armand, an expert in air defense, is into fashion and beauty tips, Teizo and Tevesi are submersible experts — offensive and defensive; and, Taji, an architect, is their identical third, triplets. Their parents are Drs Natia and Eijirō Suzuki Kahananui.

Mei Shei is a counselor the Kahananuis brought in to help Kaia. Tao Levèque was the original BlackSea alpha. The Ushijimas are bioluminescent Medusozoa (jellyfish…shhh). Mary Ushijima will do anything to protect her family. Leila Savea is a marine biologist who was kidnapped in Allegiance of Honor, 15.

Ryūjin Station is…
…an underwater habitat, miles below the ocean surface. The pregnant Dr Atalina "Attie" Kahananui is being distracted with her advanced experiments. She's mated to Dexter, the commander of the station and a great white shark. George is Attie's loner of an assistant.

Tansy, the horticulturalist working on another project with Attie, and Seraphina, the station second-in-command, are Kaia's best female friends. Hugo Sorenson, Kaia's best friend but unreliable with others, has uncovered damning evidence against the Human Alliance. Filipe is a semi-retired handyman who is mated to Carlotta, Scott's grandmother. Greta.

Alden is a bad-tempered walrus. Naz is an experienced cook who now makes a living as a mystery novelist. Loribeth "Lori" never stops talking. KJ is a nurse mated to a human, Lis. Mrs. Dempsey runs science club where Pania should be. Mr Dead Clams, a.k.a., Junji, warns Bowen. Bettina, Piri, and Kianmei will pitch in. The flirtatious Oleanna turns into an octopus and keeps promising to use those tentacles of hers. Kaia's teenaged kitchen helpers include Scott Reineke, who has a bit of a limp, and Jayson Greer while Bodie is ten with ambitions for cookies.

The Psy use…

…their minds to manipulate. Silver Mercant has been Krychek's senior aide, and is now the coordinator of EmNet, the Emergency Response Network. She married Valentin Nikolaev in Silver Silence, 1 (16), the alpha of the StoneWater bears. Kaleb Krycheck is a an incredibly powerful telekinetic and teleporter who is married to Sahara Kyriastos (Heart of Obsidian, 12). The PsyNet is a psychic network that provides the life-giving neural feedback all Psy need to survive.

The Arrows were…
…a Psy assassin squad who are now independent and allied with the Empathic Collective. Ivy Jane Zen, the president of the Empathic Collective, is an empath mated to Vasic Zen, a one-armed teleporter who is second-in-command of the Arrows (Shield of Winter, 13).

The Trinity Accord is…
…a cooperation agreement between humans, psy, and changelings (Allegiance of Honor, 15) that was initiated by Aden, the Arrow leader (Shards of Hope, 14).

DarkRiver is…
…the leopard changelings based outside San Francisco. Ashaya (mated to Dorian Christensen; Hostage to Pleasure, 5) and Amara Aleine are Psy twins and scientists who have come up with a possible solution to Bo's problem. Rina Monaghan, a leopard, reports unusual activity. Sascha Duncan, a cardinal Psy, is mated to their alpha, Lucas Hunter (Slave to Sensation, 1). Mercy, a DarkRiver Sentinel, has had her pups. She's mated to Riley (Branded by Fire, 6). Charlie is a wolfshifter who wants to babysit.

"'The wolves are categorically worse than cats. Yesterday, six of them sat on our lawn in wolf form and howled out a lullaby.' Her lips twitched. 'The babies loved it.'"
We come across Kit as a mechanic at the island airport. Rick is his boss.

StoneWater is…
…a bear clan in Russia, and one of Bowen's cousins, Phoenix, has married into it.

SnowDancer is…
…the wolf changelings, also based outside San Francisco. Hawke is their alpha ( Kiss of Snow , 10).

The Consortium is…
…a shadow organization of humans, changelings, Forgotten, and Psy who want the previous status quo back, so they can continue to profit. They'll do anything to destroy Trinity. Gianco is a go-between at the docks.

The Cover and Title
The cover is the angled and layered gilded warmth of Venice in its oranges and yellows with Bowen's face superimposed on a row of canal-side palazzos, contemplating the shifting waters even as Kaia fades in above St Mark's, her head high, long dark hair shifting in the breeze. A lone gondolier poles across the canal. All the text is in white with an info blurb at the top, the author's name embossed with a shadow in the top half while the embossed and shadowed title is at the bottom with the series information below that.

The title is a pretty big hint as to the location of Ocean Light and the insight that enlightens many.

Ocean Light is pure delight! Life under the sea has not been this much fun since The Little Mermaid. Every time Nalini Singh invites readers into a new part of the Psy-Changeling world, I fall in love all over again.

Bowen Knight – the champion and effective leader of the Human Alliance – is living on borrowed time. The chip implanted in his brain to stop Psy attacks on his mind is failing and will more than likely take his brain down with it. His only shot at survival comes when he is taken to a clinic on Ryūjin, a BlackSea installation deep under the sea. Bo was an intriguing secondary character in the Psy-Changeling series and I’m thrilled that I finally got to read his story. Bo is incredibly smart, deeply caring, and protective. He also carries scars from his past that have made him all-too-aware of human vulnerability to psychic assault. His determination to protect humanity and put them on equal footing with Psy and Changelings may cost him his life, but Bo is the kind of man who will always put himself in the line of danger to protect others from harm. For so many years Bo’s focus has been on learning to defend himself and others, leaving no time for fun. That’s why I found myself smiling over and over as Bo found the playful, fun side of himself with Kaia.

Humans have long been positioned as the weakest race, but Kaia Luna knows that they can be just as deadly. The BlackSea Changelings’ history is filled with harm done to them by humans and Kaia herself has experienced trauma at human hands. Upon first meeting Bo, she’s suspicious of him, but her cousin needs her assistance treating the far-too-attractive male. Kaia’s wariness doesn’t last long and I loved watching her open up to Bo. Kaia is an absolutely wonderful heroine. She’s a chef who shows her love through food and her warm, caring nature simply sprung off the page. She’s the kind of heroine you wish were real just so you could be friends with her (and not just because she makes fantastic cookies). She and Bo are a perfect fit and their romance made me smile and sigh. The proverbial ticking time bomb in Bo’s head isn’t the only obstacle they face. Bo’s a creature of land and Kaia of the sea; finding a happy medium given their lives, obligations, and deep-seated fears isn’t easy. I was rooting for them every step of the way because I liked them both so much.

Ocean Light takes readers deep into the heart of BlackSea territory and I couldn’t be happier. What I wouldn’t give to live on the Ryūjin installation with its friendly, unique characters and fascinating feats of engineering. BlackSea is different from many of the Changeling groups we’ve seen so far not only because of the variety of species, but because they’re spread out across the world. It made for a different dynamic that was fascinating and fun to see. How often would you expect to see a conversation with a whale or shark or a fight with a walrus, all in human form? Every character Ms. Singh introduces us to is intriguing and when you add in a plotline involving the missing members of BlackSea, it’s easy to see why I didn’t want Ocean Light to end.

Romance, action, and a bright, vivid world all make Ocean Light a captivating read. I read Kaia and Bo’s book late into the night until I couldn’t possibly keep my eyes open any longer, only to finish it as soon as I woke up the next morning. Ms. Singh’s writing continues to be incredibly addictive her characters never fail to grab my heart. I loved Ocean Light and I hope to see more of BlackSea soon!

Things ended on rather an ominous note the last time human Alliance Security Officer, Bowen Knight, was in the picture and now he turns up down deep in a Black Sea Changeling facility. I've always liked Bowen since he got his act together, but I have to confess that I was most intrigued when I learned that we were finally getting to pull the curtain aside on these most mysterious of the Changeling races. I was not disappointed. Just Magical!

Ocean Light is the second installment of the Psy Trinity series which is the second season of the overall Psy-Changeling series. This is not a good place to jump into the series as much about it is already in play from previous books.

From the get go, Ocean Light has tension. Bowen's mind is a ticking time bomb since the chip he has installed there to shield from Psy mental attacks is malfunctioning and will kill him when it goes. Now, he has been kidnapped with the aid of his sister to this deep underwater Black Sea facility where one of their leading research medical scientists is trying a long shot experimental treatment. Bowen learns that if it fails, he could be alive, but a vegetable. He wants no other human in the trials so he agrees to press forward.

Meanwhile, Kaia, the facility cook is angry and hates that this particular human is there. She sees Bowen Knight as the embodiment of all evil since, not only is he from the race that killed her parents, but her friend Hugo fingered him as the guy responsible for the disappearances of their people before he, too, disappeared. Only, things aren't adding up when she observes Bowen and interacts with him.

The pair feel a sizzling undercurrent of attraction in their enemies to lovers romance, but Bowen's got less than a five percent chance of surviving and he is from the land and she, from the sea. Doomed, or are they?

This one doesn't get as action-packed as others in the series with the built in conflict of potential enemy and the deadly life situation with Bowen. There is building tension in the romance, but also in the intrigue going on as Black Sea slowly starts to realize that they might have Consortium moles.

There are a few character-driven plot threads including Kaia's struggles now to work through her prejudice against humans that is rooted in fear and grief from losing the people she loves. Bowen, too, has to face his worst nightmares while he is vulnerable that lead back to traumatic past events. I was rooting them both on.

Beyond the insular romance and personal growth threads, the setting, backstory, and intro to a large new cast of characters to love in the Black Sea pack. Each time I get introduced to a new Changeling pack group from the leopards to the wolves, and most recently, the bears, I fall in love with the whole familial group. The Black Sea pack with all its different sea shifter types is no exception. Kaia, her large group of cousins, aunts and uncles, and her grandmother along with her best friends were all a delight. From whales to sea turtles, they were fabulous.

The end had some great twists and reveals, heartbreaking moments mixed with such lovely swooning times that I was not ready to close the last page on this wonderful, touching, and suspenseful story. Yep, already feeling the need for the next book. If you haven't started, these are great for those who enjoy a marvelous blend of paranormal, sci-fi, and action-suspense.

4.5 STARS

Since listening to the audiobook of Silver Silence I've been obsessed with the Psy-Changeling world. I'm making my way through the first books in this series via audio and loving them. If you don't mind jumping in in the middle of a series - Silver Silence is a good place to start but you definitely want to read all of them because the other books just give you a deeper reading experience.

So...Ocean Light. My friends know how fascinated I am with the ocean. There is nothing more mysterious on this planet than the creatures and biosphere underwater so reading about ocean changelings totally ticked my boxes.

Bowen Knight, security chief of the Human Alliance, is a charismatic, fascinating character. He has the alpha-thing down pat, but there is also a kindness and goodness in him that just made me love him so hard. He fights for his life, against all odds, holding on to his positive attitude although he knows that the chances are overwhelmingly high that he'll end up a vegetable - something he fears most in his life, not having control over his mind. But he sacrifices it all for the people he loves. Bo is a noble, good man, much more than he gives himself credit for. He is a man of principles and those are unmovable. I just loved him.

Kaia's changeling form is not revealed until the very end but I think it's pretty easy to guess. Her playful, loving nature, her way of taking care of her people by cooking them their favorite foods, her levelheadedness and sweet composition that still holds an edge, made me love her. Kaia has issues aplenty but she doesn't let fear stand in her way for long - she grabs it by the horns and wrestles it down.

The woman in Kaia wasn't looking for love and Bo definitely wasn't the man she would have picked but fate doesn't really give you options. She's the perfect counterpart to the man who is so aware of the duties to his people. She teaches him to let loose and play and underscores Bo's protective side. She makes him laugh and brings out his playful and romantic side. I adored their relationship, they fell in love at the best and worst time. Their time is limited but they give all they have, hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

The ocean world Nalini Singh built is utterly captivating. I could see the city underwater before my eyes. It was lush and exuberant, beautiful and abundant and I loved spending time there. I loved reading about whales and octopus, turtles and orcas. It felt like a place from the future, something that is possible.

I'm completely intrigued by all of the side cast in this installment. Miane and Malachai definitely need their own story, and I also want to see Kaia's other cousins mated! They are so mischievous, lovable rogues with a constant twinkle in their eyes.

The Psy-Changeling universe is very political. The world the three factions are trying to build is very complex and full of machinations and schemes. It makes for a slower read but in no way is it boring. I love the rich and complicated world Nalini Singh has created. It is captivating, spell-binding and I hope we get lots and lots more of books in this series. Ms Singh is at the top of my favorite authors with her beautiful, emotion-filled writing which is so full of romance and love and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

This is the second book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series.

The last things Bowen Knight, Human Alliance Security Chief, remembered was taking a deadly shot to his heart, falling into the Venetian waters, and the devastated look on the face of his sister. He should be dead but technological advances of water changelings have saved his life. Two months passed before he awoke from the coma he was in to find himself under the Black Sea, the implanted chip in his brain that protects him from Psy telepathic attacks is still active but it continues to degrade and will soon kill him. There’s a remote chance, an experimental project that might solve the problem with the chip, but the possibility he could physically survive and lose his mental faculties is glaringly high. Being the man he is there’s no choice but fate has thrown him a cruel twist, given him a reason to want to live as a whole man in the form of an enticing water changeling, his Siren of the sea, she draws him like no other woman ever has and she hates him for what she believes the Alliance is guilty of.

As a former assistant to the underwater station doctor who is also family and pregnant, the water changeling Kaia Luna couldn’t refuse when asked to help with the human patient. She’d switched her profession to that of chef, which fits her maternal instincts and personal needs better. The human male is a member of the alliance that is believed to have abducted and killed some of their own. Though she hates what he represents and that he could be involved in the disappearances she’s inevitably drawn to this man whose lease on life is tenuous at best. Loss has been an intimate companion in her life, she’s unsure if she can survive opening herself up to such again and she tries to keep her emotional distance and fails. She senses she has met her mate and there truly is only one option, go along for the ride and hope she lands in safety whatever happens. She’s stronger than she realizes.

Like the first book in this offshoot series this was an awesome read. The world building was truly a creative tapestry that continues to evolve, the vivid descriptions take the reader to another reality for hours on end. There is such emotional death to the characters, you really get to know what makes them tick: what is important to them, who they are deep down, the fears that plague them and how the love that encompasses them pushes them to stretch their boundaries and to trust. It’s not just the wonderful dynamics between the main and supporting characters that keep your attention, the intricate storyline constantly surprises and leaves you to ponder what will happen next. I look forward to reading more in this series.

The Psy-Changeling series is one of my favorite series of books in the world, and the new layers of world-building in this book - as we enter the very different world of the changelings underwater - are absolutely gorgeous. The visuals and the concepts were all just fabulous (and really well thought-through), the new characters are fantastic and full of potential (I want at least 10 more books set in the Black Sea pack! They're so much fun!), and the main romance itself is just bursting with heart and soul.

There was one moment in the middle of the book when I found myself thinking, “It’s only a pity that the plot lines are moving in a bit of a predictable way”…and then I hit the 2/3 point and realized I’d been totally wrong in my predictions! Things went *completely* differently than I’d been expecting (but in a way that developed completely naturally and logically), and I absolutely loved it. <3 <3 <3

This is going to be hard without giving away spoilers! Seriously buy the book!

Silver Silence ended up on a cliffhanger with Bowen Knight being shot and falling into the water and I assumed he died. Ocean Light starts with Bowen surviving the assassination attempt and meeting chef Kaia Luna of Black Sea. But honestly there is so much in the book and when I reread it to write the review there is so much more that I picked up in the second read that I missed the first time. The changelings of Black Sea have never been shown much and Ocean Light allows the reader to see them much more in depth and understand them more.

Nalini Singh writes in layers with each time I reread a book I pick up more information about a character which is the mark of an awesome writer plus she has a few scenes with characters from a few other books in the series which I loved because it gave a short update of them.

Nalini Singh is one of the few authors who has never let me down, I preorder her books the second they pop up on the store, devour them the minute I can get hold of them and I always know that I'm in for heartwarming romance, fantastic characters and wonderful world building. Her Psy-Changeling series is one of the best paranormal romance series out there and this new second phase of the series is proving that she's still at the top of her game. As much as I love the SnowDancer and DarkRiver packs I'm really enjoying the expansion of this world first with the bears in Silver Silence and now getting to know the water changelings of BlackSea in Ocean Light.

Bowen has always been a character I've been curious about, as the human leader of the Alliance he has a lot of power in his hands but the ticking time bomb of the telepathic blocker implanted in his brain has him desperately looking for answers. Then there was the shocking attack in the last book which of course left me even more keen to get answers. He's such a sweet hero, I loved how open and honest he was with Kaia from the very beginning and how determined he was to make the most of the time he had left if they weren't able to fix his implant safely. I've always admired the way he wanted to put humans on the same playing field as the Changelings and Psy too, even though humans are physically weaker than the Changelings and defenceless against most Psy telepathic abilities they vastly outnumber those two groups and Bowen is fighting for equality amongst the races.

Kaia is a character we've not met before but she was brilliant too, very intelligent but the best thing about her was her huge heart and the way she cared for everyone in her circle. Kaia is the kind of person that is always there to offer a shoulder to cry on or moral support but who never wants to burden anyone with her own problems so she always sees to her own needs last. Bowen saw that immediately and went to great effort to show her how important she was to him. They fitted together really well and balanced each other out in a lot of ways.

There is no denying that the first half of Ocean Light is a little slower paced and more character driven than most books in this series, the action doesn't really pick up until later on but I was having so much fun exploring BlackSea's underwater home and meeting so many different water changelings (whales, turtles, sharks and so many more - including ones with tentacles!) that I really enjoyed the change of pace. Later on as the danger increases and things get more complicated I was so fully invested in the characters that I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the story would end. This was another fantastic instalment in the series and I can't wait to find out who will be the stars of the next one!

The world has forgotten that humans are the bridge.

Ocean Light takes use into the BlackSea Changeling world and the Human Alliance where we see doubt, over coming the odds, betrayal, fears, and making new friendships. Those that have kept up with the Psy-Changeling world know that things are changing and all the races are trying to get along, but their is one group that doesn’t want to see things succeed.

Bowen Knight is a true Knight in all the right ways. He’s had a difficult past that has shaped him into the man that he is today. I enjoyed learning about Bowen and seeing him change from the Security Chief and Leader of the Human Alliance into a man who can find happiness when he never thought he’d have the chance or be capable of it. Kaia is a water changeling who has caged herself to life in the underwater compound. I was proud of Kaia in facing her fears and over come them.

We finally get to dive into the sea and learn about the BlackSea Changelings. It was interesting learning about the water changelings and watching Bowen try to figure out what everyone is. Up until now we’ve only seen glimpses of the sea changelings and we know next to nothing about them. We do get to meet a bunch of new characters and a few previous characters popping up, but it’s a whole new world with the water changelings.

Kaia and Bowen’s romance is a slow romantic bloom. The Knight who notices everything and the Siren who soothes the Knights heart.

I enjoyed Ocean Light. It did take me longer to read; because the pace is slower and we spend the majority of our time under water watching Bowen and Kaia’s building romance. I would have liked more action, but all and all Ocean Light was a delightful read.

Wow what a ride!
It was so smooth and flawless, I fell hard for Bowen and Kaia.
It was very different from the previous books, I was always intrigued by Bowen Knight, he made a mistake, that costed him a part of his humanity, but I never knew the origin of his hate for psy.
This book solves it plus gives him a second chance in life as in Silver Silence he was left in a very bad condition.
I do adore Nalini Singh work, it takes time but by the end, she gives justice to all her characters.
And with Bo’s story, it was an awesome answer to all my questions about him. I didn’t sensed a lot of angsts in this read, even if there was a lot, all was so perfectly imbricated that the storyline flowed perfectly.
Kaia is exactly the Blacksea specie I imagined while reading her story she could be, which shows the talent of the author. She is kind, compassionate but also playful. She has deep scars like Bo, but both managed them a totally different way, which made them complementary.
I had problems to put this book down but family, sleep and work duties are necessities, but even if I wanted to read faster and faster to discover what will be their journey to their HEA, I didn’t wanted to rush it too, it was a so entertaining read which dived me in the new world of the Blacksea.
Yes, Bowen Knight is not powerful like all the Alphas from the psy or changelings species but he hold the human destiny in his hands and has as much integrity as the alphas of the Snowdancer or Darkriver clans. With this book I loved him as much as I loved Max Shannon in Bond of Justice. He fights in his own terms and is a good caring man behind the soldier he had to become.
As for Kaia, she is no dominant but she has a way with people through their stomach and heart, even with her mistakes and flaws, she is a so lovable woman.
One more great read by Nalini Singh, led inc me eager for the next book in this series.

I read Nalini Singh books because they are free on Youtube to which I have a subscription. I can’t say she is a favorite author since all her stories seem pretty much the same and predictable. Ocean Light is a particularly poor entry because of lazy and boring plotting. There are blips here and there but nothing to move the story arc forward. The traitors are obvious right from the start. The backstory to the damaged heroine is truly weak – when she was 7 yrs old humans refused to give her parents aid when they got sick, so she developed an unhealthy fear and hatred of humans and land. As a response, she hid in an underwater station for the next 20 years initially as a scientist then as a cook (how did she get hands on training underwater????). To my mind the heroine is stupid, weak and cowardly, hiding away and letting others coddle and protect her. Her clan mates are supposed to be so wonderful (blah, blah), yet beyond an initial attempt to get her therapy they let her be and since she is their chef, they don’t mind having someone to cook for them without a break. The whole land phobia is just too stupid and unbelievable. We are repeatedly told heroine has a big heart – cue she is so understanding about George, a traitor who had trashed the labs, stolen data and medicines, sentencing her lover hero to death, it’s just bullshit. Her blindness towards her childhood playmate also makes her dumb. The hero is OK.
Also why did the author endow a dolphin with gills????? Does she not know better?
Angela Dawe the narrator is decent in this installment. The weird intonation she had in previous installments is absent here.

Bowen Knight has come back from the dead but there’s a ticking time bomb in his head. Even with the most brilliant scientists in the world working on the problem, he only has a small chance of living beyond a few weeks. With so little time left who should be helping the Human Alliance. Instead he is at the bottom of the ocean consumed with thought of the enigmatic Kaia Luna. Kaia has had enough pain in her life, mostly at the hands of humans. So she is baffled by her attraction to the human male who despite his potent vitality, is on the brink of death. But, when Kaia is taken, Bo will do anything to get her back…even if it means losing his mind.

So far in the Psy-Changeling and Psy-Changeling Trinity series we’ve had all land mammals. In Ocean Light we finally get an in depth glimpse at the water changelings in the BlackSea Clan. Unlike most other packs that consist of mainly one type of animal – leopard, wolf, bear – the BlackSea Clan includes any water based creature, from sharks to minnows, whales and turtles. Anything that is at home in the water belongs to BlackSea. Because of this they are a vast and powerful organisation, who have only just chosen to create alliances with outside groups. One of those groups being the Human Alliance.

Bowen is the Security Chief for the Human Alliance and has done a few questionable things in previous books. But, in Ocean Light we finally get to know his full background and get a deep dive in to his personality. He surprised me. As much as I look forward to every Singh book, Bo has never been a favourite of mine. I should have known that Singh could get me to fall in love with him! Kaia is a water changeling, but I won’t tell you what she changes into as it is a cute game between Kaia and Bo for him to guess, you find out towards the end of the book. Like all Singh heroines, she was likeable and had her own strengths and an interesting past. The romance between them grew quickly, but still managed to somehow convey a depth of feeling.

It wasn’t just the romance that was going on though. Water changelings have been disappearing and found dead and we finally get a little bit more information on what’s been happening. I can’t wait to read the next book so I can keep getting more bits of the puzzle. This book also introduced us to more new characters from both the Human Alliance and from BlackSea. It will be interesting to know more about them and then hopefully see them have their own book.

Although this didn’t quite have the charm of Silver Silence, (the bears completely won me over!) this was an enjoyable read and a worthy instalment in the Psy-Changeling series.

This second book of the Psy-Changeling Trinity series concentrates on Bowen Knight who is in charge of the Human Alliance. The story begins with him becoming conscious and in the care of underwater changelings. Dr. Atalina Kahananui might have a way to keep the chip in his head that protects him from Psy mind invasion from going bad and killing him. The only problem is that there is a 95% chance that her procedure will leave him brain dead.

Kaia Luna is helping her cousin Atie but her main job is being a chef. She delights in feeding all of her clanmates and taking care of them. She also becomes interested in Bo and Bo is equally intrigued by her. But, besides the medical timebomb that might take them from each other, the fragile peace between the Alliance and BlackSea is being tested. Isolated members of BlackSea are going missing and the clues lead to the Alliance.

One of Kaia's childhood friends named Hugo is the latest to disappear. Before he disappeared, he gave Kaia evidence that the Alliance was behind the disappearances. This immediately causes Kaia to mistrust Bowen which throws a crimp in their romance. Meanwhile, Bowen wants to clean his own house and make sure that there are no traitors in his organization while he is still in his right mind.

Both Kaia and Bo had childhood traumas that have impacts on their relationship too. Kaia fears the land and blames humans for the death of her parents when she was seven. And Bo was assaulted and mind raped by a Psy when he was a boy which has made him distrustful of telepaths. What they have in common is stronger than their differences though. Both are honorable and loyal and willing to do anything for their people.

This was a great romance and an engaging mystery too. I liked the way Bo and BlackSea worked together to track down their various traitors. I loved getting to know more about BlackSea whose changelings have made some appearances in earlier stories and finding out more about their world. I liked the focus on Bo and the ties he was trying to build with the changelings and even with Kaleb Krychek.

Favorite Quote: They might only have a fragment of an instant in time, but he’d make that fragment extraordinary.

Ocean Light is Bowen Knight’s story; the leader of the Human Alliance and one of the leaders in the Trinity Accord. Fans have been expecting his story, straddling the fence and withholding our forgiveness over his past deeds. Bowen had an experimental chip put in that blocks the Psy’s ability to manipulate human minds. However, now the chip is failing and he is living on borrowed time. An assassination attempt essentially kills him but his sister’s uncompromising love sends him deep into the ocean and into the hands of the secretive changeling group, BlackSea. They have the knowledge to potentially save him but certain members dislike humans and want him gone.

Kaia Luna is a member of Blacksea and works as a chef. Her dislike of humans stems from a traumatic event in her past. An event that has chained her to the deepest part of the ocean. Co-opted into helping with Bo’s care, she has no interest in humoring a man whose days are numbered. But the more time she spends with Bo, she discovers a man worth fighting for.

As Kaia and Bo grow closer, fighting for more time together, they discover a hidden tie between the Alliance and BlackSea. Betrayal exists on both sides and when Kaia is caught up in a net of deceit, Bo will do the unimaginable to save her.

Nalini Singh’s paranormal Psy/Changeling series is one of my top ten favorite fantasy series to date. I find myself re-reading the series, welcoming with arms wide open this alternative futuristic earth populated with shifters, humans, and the Psy as they struggle to co-exist. Each new story expands the world, bringing with it nonstop action and suspense that balances nicely with the lush romances and just the right amount of humor. Her brilliant reads remain intoxicating and engaging from the beginning to end as Singh effortlessly builds a relationship between two people not looking for love while engaging in exquisite wordplay and multiple plotlines that fit together like puzzles pieces; eventually letting readers see the big picture.

This series has undergone some changes after a long ongoing arc was settled… to an extent. Season One is now complete and Season Two aka The Trinity series picks up the ongoing storyline while introducing new characters, revisiting old favorites, and expanding on the world. The Trinity Accord offers all three races a chance at peace but there are those who want it all back the way it was and will do whatever it takes to destroy the Accord and all those in it.

Readers will love meeting Kaia and Bo and getting to know them. While Bo is a familiar face, we are used to seeing him only as the head of the Alliance. We have seen occasional glimpses of his flirty self but in here we get the full monty so to speak. Kaia fascinates Bo with her changeling personality and he turns his charm to Defcon 10 in his attempts to get to know her and eventually woo her. They are remarkably alike in their loyalty, compassion, fierce hearts, and willingness to do anything for those they love.

Singh does a fantastic job of blending the suspense of the story with the slow-burning romance and an in-depth look at a very secretive changeling group. I have been very curious about BlackSea since their introduction in Tangle of Need. It’s rare you see water changelings in stories that aren’t merfolk and I love how Singh incorporates all sea life into the BlackSea family. Her imagination is boundless. The storyline starts out slower than usual as Singh weaves her magic, taking her time with BlackSea and building their backstory and Kaia’s. Strongly character drive, the focus is on the romance while interjecting Bo’s medical issues with a subplot concerning the Alliance. It honestly doesn’t pick up till around the 60/65% mark. Singh’s clear and concise writing style leaves little confusion as the individual plotlines begin to merge and the endgame reveals itself. A well developed and personable supporting cast embraces our protagonists, adding to their story while creating their very own. I hope we see more of them in the future. The energetic ending keeps you on edge while a full-bodied epilogue leaves readers satisfied and secure in this couple’s future.

As always, Singh entertains till the very end. I’m looking forward to the 3rd book in Season Two and have my suspicions about who that couple may be. *crosses fingers*

Top Pick

Life after Silence isn’t as easy or as straight forward as anyone would like in this new series by Ms Singh and her Psy/Changling/Human world. This is not the first book in this series but it can be read without having read the previous book. It does reference things that happened in that book as well as characters in the originating series. This story is full of tentative alliances, betrayal, redemption and so much more. Not only is this world complex but the characters are too. Still there are traits that anyone can relate too such as childhood trauma and family bonds. Kaia and Bowen, the two main characters, have to make life changing decisions. Their lives are very different but can the similarities hold them together. Trust doesn’t come easy to either and both will have to deal with someone close to them possibly betraying that trust. This story captured my imagination and kept my interest from beginning to end. In fact, I read it twice because I was sure I missed things in my first fast reading and I was right. Plus, it was just as good or even better then second time reading it. Several secondary characters caught my interest and I hope at some point we will see them again in a future book. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing how the Psy, Changlings and Humans will mold a new society to live in.

When Bowen wakes up, he’s sure he is dead. He knows he was shot in the heart. So imagine his surprise when he opens his eyes to learn that he is not only not dead but he’s alive and well. This was a delightful addition to this amazing series! This is one of my favorite series of all time, any genre, and I always look forward to what's next!

Bowen Knight is the head of the Human Alliance and someone tried to kill him. Luckily they didn't succeed. Yet. But, there's still the matter of the ticking time bomb in his head, which is going to finish him off anyway. He allowed the implantation of the chip as a trial run. It's no one's fault this is the outcome. All he wants is for his fellow humans to live without fear of a Psy entering their mind uninvited and influencing them in some way. He still lives for the hope of that reality. Now he's on a secret Black Sea station under the ocean, hoping that a doctor can stabilize the chip in his head. If not, that'll be the end.

Kaia Luna is a water changeling. She used to be a scientist, but she never loved it. Now she's a chef, and she loves every minute of it. She leaves the science to her cousin now, but her cousin is heavily pregnant, and needs Kaia's help with her current experiment, AKA Bowen Knight. Kaia wants to hate him, for various reasons. But she can't seem to stay away from him. Or stop taking care of him and feeding him. After losing so much in her life already, how can she put herself in a position to fall in love with a man who might drop dead soon? How can she NOT?

Bowen and Kaia had a fantastic connection, right from the very beginning, and I enjoyed their banter immensely. Their chemistry was strong, and I loved the way they related to each other on so many levels, though they couldn't be more different in a lot of ways. I had been waiting a long time to learn more about the mysterious Bo, and I loved getting the insight into his head like we never have before.

The suspense plot was exciting and really kept me guessing on who the bad guys were. There's an ongoing bad guy throughout the series, that they keep taking apart, piece by piece, as they find them. So, you never know what will happen next!

I loved so many of the side characters, as always, but especially Kaia's many protective cousins, and the ways they interacted, both with her, and with Bo. As always, there were a few glimpses of many old fan favorite characters, and it's always nice to catch up with them and see how everyone is doing. I've loved the evolution this series has taken. It's been a great way to focus on different characters (and new types of Changelings!), and keep the universe new, fun, and exciting.

While I LOVED the bears in the last book SOMUCH, I really enjoyed this one as well. The Black Sea clan is so widespread, and contains so many different types of Changelings, that I hope we'll get to see more of them as time goes on. I highly recommend this story to all lovers of this universe, as well as PNR in general. Ms. Singh is one of the very best!

The last time we saw Bowen Knight, human security chief of the Alliance, he was being shot by an assassin and falling into the waters of Venice, presumed dead (Silver Silence). He was already on limited time thanks to a degrading experimental chip in his brain designed to create a shield against psychic manipulation. Thankfully for him (and readers!) his sister Lily calls in help from the mysterious changelings of BlackSea, who have a possible, highly experimental, solution to all of these problems. Two months after being shot and the events of Silver Silence (not necessary to read before this, but highly recommended because it is a fantastic book!) Bowen comes out of a coma in a BlackSea clinic and meets the station's chef, Kaia Luna. Kaia and Bowen have plenty of suspicions to overcome, multiple traitors to uncover, and different worlds to reconcile before they can be together- if his brain doesn't kill him first.

Bowen and Kaia are an incredible couple. He's scarred from a Psy attack when he was a teen and has dedicated his entire life to building the Alliance and protecting humans from the stronger Psy. She's afraid of loving and losing those who matter most to her. He is a deadly predator, a hunter determined to see the three races build bridges and live on some level of equality. She is a graceful creature of the deep who cares for everyone within her sphere. Two worlds meet and clash, and the sparks between them are both instant and amazing. I especially loved Kaia- a strong and independent woman who is willing to overcome past trauma and crippling fears for a chance with the man she loves. Bowen does a great job of figuring out how to blend their two worlds together, not allowing all the obstacles to keep them from the happiness they both deserve. Despite the almost certain death sentence he is under, he lives every moment to its fullest and never gives up. There are some fun cameos by characters from earlier books (especially Kaleb and Sahara!) but Ocean's Light, like the rest of Singh's Psy-Changeling series, can be read as a stand alone book.

Ocean's Light is the first time Nalini Singh really allows us into the mysterious world of BlackSea- the loose 'pack' of all the water changelings on the planet. Interestingly, she doesn't have one of the alpha, political, leaders being our introduction, but a more 'regular' person. While readers (and Bowen) know Mal and Miane slightly from earlier books, Kaia is new and a more accessible person to show us the alien world of the water changelings as if it is normal. Because to her, it is. Singh remains very coy about who shifts into what and although we get some hints, it is clear we're going to have to wait for future books to confirm our guesses. We don't even get solid confirmation of Kaia's animal until pretty far into the book- a nice piece of careful writing on Singh's part!

An intense, thrilling, and emotional read, Ocean's Light is a brilliant, must-read, addition to the Psy-Changeling world and hopefully opens doors to exploring some new aspects of that world. Wonderfully written, with excellent characters and chemistry, this is a book you won't be able to put down after starting- so make sure to clear your schedule for a few hours and enjoy!

4.5-5 stars

Yep, overall this was a great story. The story did have some ups and downs that had me going from "awesome!" to WTF?!?!" but in the end, I was extremely happy with how things worked out. I also really loved the fact that we finally have a Blacksea (aka water shifter) story!

Kaia is a water shifter (no spoilers on what kind) that lives at sea in one of many communities that belongs to water shifters called Blacksea. Kaia is the only child of her parents who died when she was 7, leaving her to be raised by family and her many cousins are now more like sisters and brothers to her. Because of past trauma, Kaia doesn't like going to land and spends her time in her underwater city or the surrounding waters.

Bowen is technically the "Security specialist" for the human alliance but I'm not sure why he has that title because he basically is the head guy in the human alliance. Bowen is completely focused on helping his people and keeping them safe from any who would take advantage of them or hurt them. I've liked Bowen in previous stories and liked him even more in this one.

Bowen and the other people that are at the head of the human alliance all got implanted with an experimental chip that would safeguard them from a Psy breaking into their minds. Unfortunately, the chips have started to malfunction and everyone implanted is going to die without a fix. When the story begins, Bowen wakes up in a Blacksea facility after a deadly injury. He doesn't know how he got there but soon finds out that there's an experimental procedure that might be able to fix the issue with the implanted chip that's killing him. Bowen is still likely to die but he's willing to undergo the experiences on the chance it will help his friends. Bowen finds himself strongly drawn to Kaia, who is the sister of his doctor. It's bad timing as Bowen could easily still die but the attraction is strong and mutual.

Kaia is actually not interested in feeling an attraction to Bowen as she's heard some things about him that aren't good. Her instincts tell her that Bowen is a good man though and the longer they spend time together, the more Kaia thinks her info must have been wrong. So, Kaia and Bowen get closer and closer but there's a certain amount of angst because Bowen's chance of survival is low so any relationship started may just cause Kaia more pain in the end. But there's a connection that neither can ignore so they do the best they can. The first part of the story is heavily character driven but around 1/2 to 2/3rds of the way in, things go wrong (in the story) and we get more action in the conclusion of the story. There's bad guys to deal with, danger to get through and drama that made me really sad. But thankfully, Nalini does know how to write a good story and things get wrapped up nicely so that Kaia and Bowen end the story together and starting on a HEA.

This was a story I greatly enjoyed. I really liked Kaia as a heroine. Kaia had her issues, there's no doubt about that, but she dealt with them and wasn't overly annoying about them. I thought Bowen was great! He turned into the right guy for the right woman and isn't that what we all kind of want? A guy that becomes the best version of himself because of his love for his woman? I loved the characters, the story was really good and kept me very engaged from beginning to end so I'd recommend it and the whole series. :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a very good job.

Another brilliant read from Nalini Singh!

The book was slow to start, then increasingly unfolded into a highly entertaining read! The story is set in an underwater BlackSea installment where Bowen is undergoing extensive testing to help disable the implant at the base of his brain before it kills him. But the BlackSea Changelings (shape-shifters) have other reasons why they are helping Bowen. Word on the street is Bowen’s dirty; responsible for the disappearances of several gifted water changelings. BlackSea needs to find out what Bowen knows before more changelings go missing. They’re racing the clock to save the one man who might lead them to their vanished.

I loved the heck out of this book! Bowen and Kaia’s courtship was funny, sweet and frustrating. They had so many odds against them I was really pulling for the couple. Bowen is a thoughtful romantic and Kaia fought to resist his charms but ended up falling hard for the sexy security specialist ?

We finally get to delve into the world of the water changelings! It was so exciting to read about all the different changeling species! What I loved even more was the mystery of it all! Every changeling was complex and distinctive. You could tell Ms. Singh spent a lot of time with the character development and the plot because the characters were so diverse and vibrant. I loved experiencing this undiscovered world of changelings right alongside Bowen!

I also loved that we met new characters but we are also treated to several appearances from previous Psy-Changeling characters. More aspects of this amazing Psy-Changeling world are revealed as well. The story was riveting and I couldn’t put it down until the last page was devoured!

OCEAN LIGHT is an amazing and exciting story! It’s the second book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series but can be read as a standalone.

If you are looking for an exciting story with dynamic characters, engaging plots and incredible love stories, pick yourself up a Nalini Singh book! You’ll get all of this and more!

I voluntarily read a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings are my own.

Ocean Light is the second book in the Psy-Changeling spinoff series, Psy-Changeling Trinity, which focuses on the alliance (and its members) among the Psy, Changelings and Human Alliance. Instead of focusing on the races separately, we now are working toward a more integrated society with the signing of the Trinity Accord. Silence has fallen for the Psy, and they are attempting to make inroads into the human race as they have learned that, much like the empaths, they are necessary for the health of the PsyNet.

Leader of the Human Alliance, Bowen Knight, has a played a large role in previous books. We knew that he was living on borrowed time due to the protective chip in his brain, which is rapidly deteriorating. I believe it was the last book, Silver Silence, which saw Bo taking a bullet to the heart. He certainly never expected to wake submersed into the deep black sea surrounded by unfamiliar water changelings. But much like everything else, Bo takes his continued existence (and countdown to brain damage) in stoic stride. I enjoyed getting to know Bo more than we have in previous books. He is a caring and honorable man, willing to sacrifice himself for his people. And while he gets twitchy about telepaths, he doesn't really treat any of the races different from himself. I also liked that, as a human, he was just as deadly as some of our changelings!

Kaia Luna is somewhat of a tragic heroine, and a water changeling. I will leave it to you to figure out which type. The water changelings have been so mysterious throughout the series, and we never really know what they are. I liked that their second nature was immediately laid out for us at the outset, Nalini kept us guessing for the whole book before we finally got confirmation of Kaia's second form. I really liked Kaia. She was a mothering sort - caring for everyone equally and making sure they all got her time, attention, and cooking skills. I also respected her for giving up the science gig to do something that truly made her happy - and I would love to have an iota of her culinary skills. She thought she hid her soft-hearted nature behind a tough exterior shell, but most people saw through her and that teflon coating wasn't so hard to crack. Her determination in this story, in spite of her extreme fear, was wonderful to behold. I was rooting for her the whole way.

The relationship between Kaia and Bowen is not instalove, but it is instant attraction, chemistry, and a realization that there was something real between them. Even when Kaia suspects Bo of carrying out evil deeds, she can't quite dim her curiosity and desire for the man. I thought the relationship was more on the sweet side than steamy, and it unfolded at a nice pace along with the story.

Our secondary storyline in this book involves the sea changelings that have been kidnapped and mutilated in prior books. The plot is still being carried out, but its being laid on the shoulders of Bowen Knight and the Human Alliance. Bo must prove to the changelings that he hasn't betrayed them, all the while finding a traitor in his midst. I had my suspicions as I was reading, but I didn't predict things playing out as they did. So this was a good secondary storyline that advanced the plot nicely.

I was intrigued by the BlackSea Security Chief, Malachai, before I read this story. But I am even more curious about him now. I hope he and Mignon both have a story coming soon - I can't wait to find out what their sea creatures are.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Berkley.

I’m an unabashed fan of everything Nalini Singh writes, from her Guild Hunter series to the Rock Kiss books and most especially, the Psy-Changeling series. I always open one of her books knowing I’ve got a few hours of absolute enjoyment ahead of me, and Ocean Light definitely does not disappoint.

Bowen Knight has appeared in other books in this series, a secondary character who embodies the powerful but silent savior. He is leader of the Human Alliance, a man easier with killing than connecting with others. But Bowen has an implant in his brain, a bit of untested technology designed to protect him from Psy attacks that has left him on a deadly countdown until the chip dies—and destroys his brain with it.

After taking an assassin’s bullet meant for his sister, and with the world thinking he’s dead, Bowen awakens in an undersea lab where a BlackSea doctor is using an experimental treatment to try and save his life. One of the first people he meets is Kaia Luna, the undersea colony’s chef, a beautiful changeling who mystifies him with her smile, her empathy, and the unexpected attraction he can’t deny.

That attraction is the heart of the story, and I found myself smiling at Bowen Knight’s journey of self-discovery as he falls deeper for the beautiful Kaia, a woman with secrets he can’t seem to unearth. I had the feeling that his desire to understand Kaia was something completely new to this man who has always put duty before pleasure, but when members of BlackSea begin disappearing and Kaia is threatened, Bowen is forced to race against a timeline that could kill him—or worse--if he's going to save the woman he loves.

I just finished reading Ocean Light, and I can still feel that emotional glow that comes with the final page of a truly wonderful book. I’ll be reading this one again, just as I do with all of Nalini’s wonderful books. I definitely recommend this latest masterpiece.

Finally, the book we have been waiting for- Bowen’s story. After being shot and in a coma for two months, Bowen awakens in a room he doesn’t know surrounded by strangers. He is with the BlackSea changelings and they are using new technology to speed up his recuperation. Kaia, a cook at the station is the one who happens to be in the room when he awakens and Bo has a strange reaction to her, both attraction and a sense of danger.
Kaia’s best friend told her Bowen was responsible for the disappearance of several BlackSea changelings so Kaia regards him with a great deal of distrust mixed with a weird sort of attraction. Kaia’s cousin is working on the problem of the deadly chip implant that is slowly killing Bowen and the outlook does not seem very positive. As time progresses, Kaia begins to wonder if Bowen is really the monster her friend portrayed him to be and she finds herself more and more attracted to him.
When Bo discovers that his human alliance might be connected to the disappearances, he has to decide who to trust and try to investigate the possibilities. Meanwhile, someone keeps stirring up the pot, causing discord among the clan and distrust towards Bowen. As in so many of the Psy-Changling books, it seems impossible to have this love story get to its HEA.
I loved all of the new BlackSea changelings and watching Bowen figure out what each person changed into (especially Kaia). This book has so many new characters and complicated plots running through it. The chemistry between Bowen and Kais is amazing and yet threatened even though you know it will work out somehow. The eventual revealing of the bad guys makes the reader angry and sad at the same time. Even Kaleb Krychek makes himself part of the story and further cements his reputation as a good guy in wolf’s clothing.
The only bad part about the book is that it ends and there a long time before the next one comes out.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 5
Bowen Knight awakes to what he believes is the afterlife. How could he not when he remembers being shot through the heart and sinking into the deep abyss? Something is not completely right with this afterlife. Or are they keeping his brain alive to try to find a way to stop the chip from exploding?

Bowen will have to fight with everything he has to get back to reality and the people he loves.
He never expected one of those people would be found at the bottom of the sea.

I am loving this new portion of the Psy-Changeling world that Ms. Singh is developing for us. First she brings us the much loved Bears (in Silver Silence) now we get to go into the deep and learn more about the Water Changelings of Black Sea. Ms. Singh’s mind is a dangerous place. How she comes up with these characters amazings me. Then you add in the amazing talented voice of Angela Dawe and you have a masterpiece. I truly hope that neither one of these ladies ever gets tired of their job!!
I can not wait for the next installment of the Psy-Changeling series I know that it will be amazing as all of the rest.

I would like to see a cameo by my favorite Psy Judd :)

Ocean Light (Psy-Changeling Trinity)

Genres; Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense.
4.5 Stars

Negatives & Positives
My only negatives is occasionally the story was a bit repetitive and this slowed the pace/flow down.
Other than that I adored it.
I have been waiting a long time for Bowen Knight to get his story and I was not disappointed. Finally a great story about the humans in this Psy-Changeling series! The world build and foundation was fantastic. Add to that I got my second wish come true. A lot more about the Black Sea changelings.
The romance between BlackSea's Kaia Luna and Bowen is stormy, turbulent and passionate. It is definitely an 'adult' romance, it is not erotic nor hard core in any way. It is sweet and loving.
There are a lot of things going on and both Bowen and Kaia are unsure who the enemy is. Things point to many of their most trusted and loved. The suspense keeps you on your toes.
While this story is mostly about the romance between Kaia & Bowen, there is no lack of action as they struggle to find the traitors to the Trinity and peace.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who loves great suspense with a solid adult romance.

I can't believe I'm giving a Psy-Changeling novel 2 stars, but I'm so bored with the book I can't stand it. I've only read a third of it and not sure I can finish.... It feels like a high school soap opera with the continuous dissecting of the emotions and attraction between the two main characters. At this point there's so little action along any kind of storyline that I can't read any more. I've read all the rest of the Psy-Changeling books and this one is just very, very disappointing. One other reviewer wrote that it's almost as if someone else wrote this book, and I think I agree. It's a train wreck....
I have a great deal of respect for Nalini Singh but this book isn't typical of her work.

RATING: 4.5 'ohana' HEARTS!

Ocean Light was simply fabulous. This one isn't as action packed as previous Psy-Changeling books, but the beauty of Nalini Singh's stories is that they are always character driven. Bowen and Kaia's slow burn romance is swoony, sweet, and heart-achingly beautiful. I'll admit, I'm a Hawke girl forever and always, and any other man in this series will find I place them a tad lower on my radar, but Bowen surprisingly stood his ground and won me over with his loyalty and his devotion for Kaia. He was just as much alpha as his changeling counterparts, and with every page I found myself admiring his strength and human point of view.

“Love can alter the fabric of the universe.”

The BlackSea pack has been shrouded in mystery ever since they were first introduced, and in this we finally get to shed a little light on not only the different beings they shift into, but also their way of life as underwater creatures. The deep sea station was utterly fascinating, and Ms. Singh was clever enough to sate reader curiosity about the water changelings, but still keep BlackSea the enigma that it is. I can't wait to discover more of BlackSea, and especially get a story for Malachai and Miane next!

Oh this book was incredibly painful! I loved Bowen. But Kaia absolutely drove me nuts! He land/human phobia was way over exaggerated. I usually read/listen to the books in the Psy-Changeling series (minus a couple) over and over again. I will not be listening or reading to this book again.

BlackSea’s motto should be: Secretive R Us.

Let me just reassure fans of this series that Nalini Singh has done it again. I absolutely loved this latest installment in one of my all-time favorite series—and considering my expectations for this book were sky-high, that's saying something.

Bowen has been an important if small part of this series for a long, long time, and to finally see the pay off of his story arc was beyond rewarding. Not to mention, finally getting a look into the elusive, secretive and utterly fascinating BlackSea clan made me a little giddy with possibilities.

Once again, Ms. Singh has delivered (with ease, it seems) spectacular world-building—another sprawling clan, another universe crawling with detail—and an achingly tender, wonderfully built bond, wrapped in a suspenseful and mesmerizing story. In a word, this book was perfection, and left me with two clear thoughts:

1) How soon is too soon for a re-read? (This is my second read already, so . . . maybe in a week or so?)
2) How long before the next book in this series is on my Kindle and in my hands? It can't come soon enough, TBH.

**4.5 Stars**

Fans of the Psy/Changeling Series have been waiting for the isolated water changeling clan BlackSea to give up their secrets for YEARS. Finally, finally Ms. Singh gives us what we want in Ocean Light. Of course, BlackSea doesn't just reveal all its secrets, you learn more and more throughout the book and every new detail is delightful and well-researched.

Bowen Knight, head of the Human Alliance was not a hero I was particularly enamored with. I was mildly intrigued to read his story, but I was more excited to find out about BlackSea. Of course, Ms. Singh changes my mind almost immediately. I fell in love with the gruff but deeply caring Bowen and his devotion to the maternal water changeling Kaia. Kaia is fierce but damaged and watching Bowen hold on to her with both hands was the highlight of the story. He changes and grows as a person to be worthy of his generous and loving mate. She, in turn, faces her deepest fears for her alpha lover.

Throughout the story, we learn more about the Human Alliance and meet many new characters I am hoping will have an impact further in the series arc. The balance between fun everyday life activities, high octane adventure, and sweet yet sexy romance was absolutely perfect. Every time I open a new Nalini Singh book I know to expect breathtaking world building and a delightful story that leaves me on the edge of my seat. Ms. Singh never fails to surprise and delight me. Now, as always, I wait with bated breath for the next couple to be revealed.

Bowen is a human man who has forgone an experimental operation to keep the psys out of his head. This operation implanted a chip, a chip that will eventually kill him and unless someone figures out a way to save him, he is a dead man walking.

Kaia is an aquatic shifter, living in the science base at the bottom of the ocean. She has been hiding herself underwater after the tragic circumstance that surround her life. The last thing she needs to be is drawn to Bo, a man with an expiration date…but sometimes fate is a fickle thing.

I love the Psy-Changeling world. And here comes the but... even though there is a few character crossovers, for the most part, this story takes place underwater in the aquatic changling realm with unfamiliar characters and little to no action till the last few chapters. I did really liked it and found it highly enjoyable but felt like I was starting a totally new series and the character connection was newly developing. By the end, I was hooked on Singh's new world and look forward to finding this world as familar as found in the original Psy-Changeling series.

I received this ARC copy of Ocean Light from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review.

When I read the blurb for OCEAN LIGHT, all I could think was "Finally we get to see more of the elusive BlackSea!" I also was excited to see how a changeling could bring the anti-trusting, paranoid, hard, and rough, yet admirable for his fierce loyalties, Bowen to his knees. Kaia is exactly the playful but strong person he needed. Of course she doesn't make it easy on him and I really enjoyed the dance between them. The romance is sweet yet plenty hot, a deliciously fun combination. Bowen is a delicious hero that I wasn't expecting, and the combination of him with Kaia made for a fully satisfying read.

Nalini has a masterful way of crafting stories and situations that pull at your heartstrings from the first page, and OCEAN LIGHT is no exception. Bowen is on a life to death hair the entire book, and BlackSea people are disappearing right and left. Talk about intense circumstances! When you add those with the fascinating and masterful world, this is one heck of a combination. There's just something special about a story that gives you that perfect escape, and this is it.

All in all, with OCEAN LIGHT, Nalini Singh has yet again written an incredible story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Bravo!

4 Hearts SJ, Romance Junkies

From New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh comes the second in her Psy-Changeling Trinity series, a continuation of her bestselling Psy-Changeling books.

In OCEAN LIGHT, Bowen Knight, the leader of the Human Alliance, has been in a coma following the events that happened in SILVER SILENCE. (But this book remains a stand-alone, so a new reader isn't lost.) Bowen has a chip implanted in his brain that is sure to go off, leaving him brain-dead in a matter of weeks.

Awakened from his coma, he finds himself among the BlackSea Changelings, the home of shapeshifers with an affinity for the sea. There, Bowen meets Kaia, a female changeling with a grudge against the handsome human. Changelings are being taken from the waters, and many are sure Bowen is behind it. But is he?

There's a mystery to solve and a sudden attraction between Bowen and the beautiful and deadly Kaia. Conspiracy, danger, and a consuming love fill the pages of another Psy-Changeling story set in Nalini Singh's complex and masterful world.

While this story stood on its own,and Bowen has been a fascinating character from his first introduction several books into the original Psy-Changeling series, the chemistry between the protagonists felt off. Bowen falls in insta-love with Kaia. And though the two build up to a romance, it never felt credible enough to suspend disbelief. Perhaps the fast pacing of the story is to blame, as the events take place within a few weeks--all the time Bowen has before the chip in his mind turns deadly.

The mystery was well developed, and the glimpse into the Blacksea changelings was fascinating. But a deeper buildup, or at least a lengthier time frame to let the lead characters realize their feelings, might have helped the romance.

Still, a worthwhile read for Nalini Singh fans and those taken with the Psy-Changeling world. But this book doesn't quite stand up to the exquisite romance delivered in SILVER SILENCE.

Disappointing. I just couldn't get into this book. It was too focused on lust and not enough on the surrounding world and what was going on in it. None of the characters here really seemed to have any depth. I love the ocean, but still feel like the BlackSea members are nearly a complete mystery to me. Lastly, the foreshadowing of the "villain" was so heavy handed the "betrayal" would only surprise the most brain-dead readers. Certainly there were plenty of us in a coma, since this book lacked heart, but even I picked up on it. I was really disappointed by this book. I hope it's an anomaly in an otherwise intriguing universe she's built.

A good read. Nalini has built a world that keeps expanding. I enjoyed learning and meeting the water changeling and getting a glimpse of their world and day to day living. I also loved the "guest appearances" of Vasic, Kaleb Krychek and the Dark River and SnowDancer alphas. Also, catching a quick look at Mercy and Riley's pups.

Bowen Knight has survived his injuries and is with the water changelings. He meets Kaia Luna and he has found his mate. From their first interaction, the chemistry and connections between cannot be denied. Kaia and Bo's romance began quickly and remained constant even though there were a lot of obstacles around to derail them. I liked that this book kept them as a unit, ready to battle together. This is another good addition to the series. I enjoyed this book because Nalini's writing style is impeccable. The characters are well-written and everything falls into place. There wasn’t anything different than the usual, but it is always a pleasure to visit the world of the Psi-Changelings that Nalin, it like reconnecting with friends

Ocean Light is the next fantastic book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series. Nalini Singh is really talented and has created a rich, vibrant world with characters who are strong, and emotional complex. There are three races in this world, the Changelings who can change into various animals, the Psy who are connected via a psychic network and have various mental talents and the humans who are tired of being the weakest race and have banded together to keep each other safe. This book stars the head of the Human Alliance, Bowen Knight and Kaia Luna, a BlackSea Changeling.
Bowen Knight is desperately seeking a solution to the degrading chip in his brain that was supposed to protect humans from Psy influence. Many of his family and friends also got the chip, following his lead. As Bo was the first to be implanted, his has degraded the most and could fail at any moment, killing him. After being shot in the last book, Bo has been offered a slim chance of saving his people. Changeling scientists from the mysterious BlackSea group are willing to experiment on him with a potential cure. While he has no thought of survival for himself he is willing to risk if it might save his friends and beloved sister. So Bo is stuck in the BlackSea lab, deep beneath the ocean.
It is there that he meets Kaia, a beautiful but emotionally damaged Changeling. Kaia is deeply distrusting of humans in general thanks to her tragic past. But suspicions of Bo run extremely strong as she thinks he may be behind the kidnappings of BlackSea members.
However, Bo is intriguing and they begin a relationship despite her reservations and his projected low likelihood of surviving the experiment. Kaia and Bo fall in love and must work together to solve the mystery of who is hunting and killing BlackSea members. Through this investigation they must work to repair Changeling and Human relations. Their actions give them hope of fixing the fractures in the Human/Psy/Changeling Alliance. As well as a possible solution for the Psy networks problems.
This book does a fantastic job completing several story arcs and ongoing series mysteries. We are also left with several outstanding questions. As well as a few possible solutions to ongoing problems and hope for the future. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.

I'm a huge fan of Nalini Singh and very much look forward to her books, but this one.......I just couldn't emotionally engage with it.
The Trinity series feels like a cash cow, with no new developments. I'd much rather read about SnowDancer and DarkRiver clans (where I'd invested myself into, and love them) than be bothered reading about new clans.
Frankly, the sea creatures /Changelings and the way their relate to each other as a clan, is not my cup of tea. The romantic Human/Water based Changling was too unbelievable- left me feeling disconnected. Jelly fish? Wrinkly, old sea turtles? Octopii? (and the weird sexual tentacle references), Whales? etc. About as sexy and uncharismatic as a shrimp. Ugh. And how can this kind of bonded coupling work with humans or psy, when they physically unable to function in the deep Blue, I ask you?
I'm afraid I'm going to feel the same with the Bird Changelings, if NS ever focus on them as a love interest. I really hope we get back to the DarkRiver and Snowdancers clans to carry this story arc along.

So, as a NS fan of this series, go ahead and read it, you know you love Singh's writing style.
New readers will be lost, especially as old characters play a part in this book.
In my opinion this story is not worth its very high Kindle price.

Because of my disengagement and boredom I give it a 2 star rating.

Full disclosure: I won a copy of the book in a Goodreads giveaway, received it about two weeks ago and tried to finish reading and reviewing before publication, but, alas, life didn’t allow for that…

First, if you are new to the Psy-Changeling series, you HAVE to stop here. Go back. Read them all. It will be an excellent use of your time and I guarantee you will love every book!

Long-time fan and desperate for this book to hit your mailbox/kindle/etc.? It is worth the wait, as always! With Silence in the past for most, and the Trinity a reality, I, for one, have been dying to see all the Trinity leaders find their places both personally and professionally. But who knew Bowen would come back from the dead to fulfill my desire??? Alive, but still fighting the chip, Bo finds his balance and fights to keep her. Between navigating a new changeling “pack” and overcoming Kaia’s personal issues, while living on the edge of death, it isn’t easy, but following his tale is engaging and filled with non-stop action and tension (of both the good and bad variety:-)).

If you haven’t ordered it, or requested it from your local library, do so NOW. Ms. Singh will keep your attention and fill your head with an entire colorful, entertaining other world.

I really enjoyed this story. We have Bowen Knight, the leader of the Human Alliance and Kai Luna, a Black Sea Changeling, in the next story of the Psy Changeling series and as expected, Ms. Singh did not disappoint! I am an avid fan and love all of her books! Bowen is severely injured in our last story, possibly believed dead, however he lies in a coma. Attie, cousin to Kaia, is entrusted with the care of Bowen Knight. When he wakes, Kaia is overwhelmed and scared of the feelings that he arises within her. Bowen realizes that he now has to fight harder than ever to survive, for he knows he has met his mate. Filled with action, betrayal, a hurt so deep within both the heroine and hero, I could not put the book down. In the end, we have a treachery so deep that it threatens to tear apart the Black Sea changelings but the core of their love runs profoundly and ohana is everything to them! I loved it. 4.5 stars****

Perhaps because Bowen Knight is a character we've dealt with in so many of the previous stories, he was the more interesting character here, truly shining as we got to see him not only deal with his responsibilities to his species, but also his own mortality.

Kaia was not a bad character, rather she carried a heavy burden as this story was the first time a water changeling was a lead / dominated the story. One of the things I love about Nalini Singh's writing is the way she captures the animal aspects, in this one their were some great descriptions of the playfulness, and the other half "swimming near the surface" in the human, or diving deep.

I got the unabridged audio version of Ocean Light from the library, I enjoyed the narration, and especially early in the story found myself captured by some laugh out loud moments.

Another great entry into this series. Nalini Singh builds a world with such detail that sneaks up on you in ways. After I read this book I went back and reread some of my favorites in the series. I started to notice small mentions of Black Sea that show up in this book and it made me love this book even more.

I have always liked Bo, so it was great to get to know him more and Kaia was just wonderful. The best part of his book was getting to know more about Black Sea, and there are still so much we don't know about them! I'm hoping we get to visit with Black Sea some more in future books.

Nalini Singh never ceases to amaze me. Every single story just leaves me in wonderment especially Ocean Light. What was different about it was the detailed underwater world that she created.

The romance behind it was just as beautiful. Bowen and Kaia's possessed a deep love that defied time, distance, race and prejudice. Their story will have you contemplate the saying if it really is "Better to have loved than never have lost at all."

Ocean Light is definitely nothing like I have a ever read before. The way she described it was fantastic. It felt tangible, as if I was swimming along the mysterious creatures. A masterpiece. I can not wait to see what else her unparalleled imagination comes up with next.

Yet another amazing read by the ever talented Nalini Singh. In a world where people who are regular human, human-changling and psychics have achieved the first steps to an uneasy peace normal humans are still at a great disadvantage. Humans have no mental shields against psychics, allowing their minds to be invaded against their will. Our hero continues to fight for a solution to this critical issue while starting to lose a personal battle against a failing prototype implanted in his brain. While recovering from being shot he meets a mysterious woman who intrigues him and offers an impossible love story.
Loved the story from cover to cover. Suspenseful and heartwarming it made alternately laugh and cry. A must read book in a fantastic series.

While I still love this series very much, this was not my fave installment of the series. I felt that the relationship between Kaia and Bowen was so rushed and forced from the start it just never seemed believable for me.

I liked the story and loved how previous characters were included, especially Kaleb. Now there is one intriguing man. Love any scene with Kaleb in it. I also liked having Miane and Mal integrated into the story; there are two characters I would love to read more about.

The best part of the story? The ending with Bowen and Kaleb beginning a friendship. That seems interesting and I look forward to reading more about that.

Once again Nalini has given us a wonderfully amazing story. I love this new leg of the Psy-Changeling world. Bowen Knight is an intriguing character, one I've wanted to know more about since he was first introduced. Pairing him with a Black Sea changeling was a little unexpected but perfect. Kaia is a character that I am glad we got to know. She adds so much more dynamic to the series. Through her we get our first in-depth look into the fascinating Black Sea clan.

While part of me misses the cats and wolves, though we get a brief glimpse of them, I love that this world is expanding into new territory. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, as always, to see where it takes us next.

Tried and true fans of this series will rejoice in knowing that we finally get to see the BlackSea Changelings up close and personal in Ocean Light! Bo and Kaia’s romance blossomed very slowly at the start but the leisurely pace wasn’t unwelcome, it was actually just what this series needed to breathe some new life into the characters and the immense world. The first half of this book harkened back to the Psy-Changeling’s roots with Singh inviting readers to explore a new clan and a new world in detail. And yet, the second half was packed with action and conflict like I’ve come to expect from the series. Singh once again annihilated all of my expectations!

" Oceans Light " by Nalini Singh

***a special thank you to Berkley Publishing, Nalini Singh, and Netgalley for providing a copy for this review.

once again a complete hit in her department! I loved the new world introduction in this sereis- falling completely in love with every new character and plot twist that is building yet another set of epic books sure to come. I've loved the Pay-Changeling series for years - only deciding to read them after numerous recommendations, considering I was hesitant on her character building when compared to a series that followed the same handful of characters (Guild Hunter) and I shame myself for not reading it earlier! Despite this being a long running romance series - Nalini has this epic ability to change the world and stakes so smoothly that it's not whiplash when you enter a new arc of difficult circumstances and villainy. Sure we have our overall 'antagonists' that flow through the series, but ever character has their own issue that stems from an overall "bad thing they need to stop"

So, enough about the series contemplation - lets get to this book.
Honestly, I was really unasure of the new branch of books, Ive never been a 'second generation' fan, and these aren't that in any case, but I was afraid i'd still get shadow emotions from a series that would have. I think 'Oceans Light' was perfect enough to continue the pull of my love with sneaks at other previous characters I fell in love with (no Hawk though (damn)) but it held its ground as a new beginning. I want new characters to find their mates and live the happy ever after, I want characters mentioned in this one from previous books to finally take their spot light in this part two of the series. I highly recommend reading this book, perfectly laid out for these two to get their mate ending, and an epic build for more to come.

CHARACTERS
Bo - yay! our boy is back from the dead ladies - but with a catch and an overall "hope this goes well" idealism that kept me keeping up through the book. Obviously we know all is well (it is a romance come on, we haven't had a 'that was a shitty ending' for a character by character base series since J.R. Ward's " The Shadows" (still pissed at you Ward, I mean, what the hell)) but back to my tangent - we all know its going to go well, but still we ache and hurt every time there is a hint at any possible disaster between these two. I liked Bo as a character, he was cunningly smart while being boss at everything he does. I seem to have completely forgotten about him, everyone was like "its Bo OMG" and im over here like ... "did I miss the invite to the meet and greet orrrrr?" but don't you worry - it all came back to me. End notes : he was amazing. 'nough said.
Kaia - this book was the first introduction to this character, and while she became highly enjoyable as the book progressed - I wasn't initially a fan of hers. Maybe it was her character style that just felt a little too familiar, the 'I can't be with you because a,b,c,d,e,f...' -- yeah you get it. However, as I got to see these two interact with each other and build, I slowly began to root for her, I wanted more time in her head and more time watching her interactions with everyone in her family.
THE STORY
This book was a bit slow paced for me personally - keeping it from the full five stars. Honestly, I discovered myself in a lot of situations where I just wanted to skip until I found something interesting. I never found myself wanting to completely end the book or just skip to the end- but I was waving my hand in a 'lets move forward' motion a few times. Now, Nalini doesn't have books where you can do that- maybe it's me being a impatient reader who found an adorable couple and just wanted every moment to be them interacting together . . . or of other characters . . . yum. So I stuck through and thank god I did! To much information that is vital and important to other books and perhaps future ones as well. Now, this issue is probably coming from me as a reader, I don't like it when I can say 'okay chapter done, lets leave some for tomorrow' because I . . . LIKE it . . . but don't LOVE it. I want to plow through these books faster, I want to go "shoot I have to put it down- end my life, how will I go on" and I didn't get that from this book. Once again - It could totally be me as a reader, but FYI.

I received an ARC of this book from firsttoread.com. I will read anything that Nalini Singh writes. She has a gift of writing stories that have heart and connection and love and adventure and a great storyline. The world building is intricate/detailed and seems so realistic. I always feel like I can connect to the characters and understand their perspective. Ms. Singh's books all have a love story and the main characters tend to mature in some way and move beyond some core beliefs that have held them back. Kaia and Bowen's story fits the mold. We have seen glimpses of Bowen in past books in this series. To be honest, he was one character that I wasn't sure I would be able to like as a main character. However, the author did such a great job sharing his back story, and showing his caring interactions with Kaia, that I soon came to root for him. There wasn't as much action as is typical, but this story taught us more about the BlackSea changelings and set the scene for future books (I think). I look forward to reading more in this series!

I really love this series so I looked forward to Bo's story. I wondered what was going to happen to Bo with the degrading chip in his head and then being shot at the end of the last book. I liked the underwater world he was in and how the sea changelings cared for him. Seeing the way he and Kaia came to care for each other, even knowing Bo might only have a couple more weeks to live, was good. With a few little mysteries to solve thrown in with furthering race relations it was a good story with a satisfying happy ending.

Normally I devour Ms. Singh’s books but I had to force myself to finish this one. I put it down and picked it up so many times but finally pushed through it because I borrowed it from the library, and I just want to know what happened. I think as a Psy/Changeling follower, without reading this book, I wouldn’t miss out on any information because there is no major development. It was so dragging and boring. The sexy times seem so mechanical and the emotions between the main characters just felt forced and superficial.

Why aren't there more than 5 Stars? Nalini Singh NEVER, EVER disappoints. The story is wonderful, takes up where the last novel ends, is a WONDERFUL story in and of it's self, and starts leading to the mystery behind the vanishings of the Dark Sea Clan. I always know when Nalini Singh writes I will enjoy, when it's a Psy/Changling/Trinity novel, it's going to be wonderful, but have to say, each one is more wonderful than the last. I so ADORE these books. Thank you for this one. I HIGHLY recommend this book and hope every one who reads it has as much enjoyment as did I.

I love the cover as much as I love the book. I was never a fan of Bowen, not too sure why but now that I have read and delved into his past, I am liking him more. Especially with this new forged relationship with Krychek. Also love learning more about Black Sea. Both Bowen and Kaia had deep fears that needed to be dealt with and doing it together just made for the best story between those two. If I could give 10 stars to any of Nalini's books I would.

Although the story was interesting and the characters were fine, this book felt as if someone different wrote it. It was too factual like if you were reading a text book. It lacked feeling. It is not a page turner like her previous books. I was dissapointed

Nalini Singh is one of my all time favorite storytellers. She could write a phonebook and I would buy it. Ocean Light is a prime example of why that is so. Flawed characters who are trying to make their bit of the world better. Fighting fate. Love. Honor. Excitement. And most importantly a well crafted story.

This book is slow. I LOVED Silver Silence and was expecting the same humor and world building. There was no perspective of the Big Bad so that felt lopsided. I hate to say this cause I love the series but skip this book. It's not worth the exorbitant price tag. It's also oddly PG, Ms. Singh's love scenes are usually steamier.

Saving Bowen’s brain was kind of anti-climactic. I wish that had more to it. Saw the ending with Kaleb and Bowen from a mile away, lol. Overall, a very enjoyable read. This book is more 3 1/2 stars for me than 4 but I’m glad I purchased it.
