Although this story was short, it still had everything you'd come to expect from a Chicagoland Vampires story. Merit is still smart and feisty and Ethan is still very much a HOT, sexy Master vampire. While on vacation, they are once again pressed into service to help solve a murder. To add to the fun, you get Gabriel and some of his pack members thrown into the mix. If you love the Chicagoland Vampires series, you'll want to read this story as well.

Merit and Ethan are taking a well earned vacation, somewhere quiet where they can have a few days spending quality time as a couple. Well, that was the idea anyway, but we all know that trouble tends to follow them so it shouldn't surprise anyone that before their first night is over they find themselves caught in a centuries old feud between the local vampires and shapeshifters!

It's no secret that I'm a bit of a Chicagoland Vampires fan girl so of course I couldn't wait to dive into this novella and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Merit and Ethan. It was great to see them outside of Chicago in an unfamiliar environment but still kicking butt as we'd expect. There are also appearances from Gabriel and Damien which is always a huge bonus in my books, I LOVE the shapeshifters and am still desperately hoping that Chloe will give us a spin of story about Damien at some point.

I loved Lucky Break, the mystery behind the ongoing feud was interesting, I enjoyed seeing Merit stand up for herself and her man and as usual I loved the banter between her and Ethan. I think my only complaint with this story was that it was a novella and I wanted it to be a full length book but that's just because I'm greedy and I can never get enough of this world or these characters.

Although this story doesn't impact the ongoing series story arc I would happily recommend it to fans of the series & it's a great way to get a Merit fix while you wait for the next full length book.

~ 3 Lucky Break Stars ~

I enjoyed reading Lucky Break. If you are a fan of the series or just starting then you will notice that the full length books are more about the vampires where the shorts focus on CNeill’s shifters.

Merit and Ethan are trying to have a vacation together, but as all things go their life is never duel and the vacation they planed gets turned upside down. This short does not really contribute to the series, just gives you a taste of what the series is about and shows us what vampires outside of the Houses deal with. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the Marchand/Mckenzie feud plus murder mystery.

The one thing I have notice in the books and shorts is that Ethan always calls Merit by Sentinel. This is getting to me. It makes me wonder/question about their relationship. I can’t decide if they are a couple or if they are Master and Sentinel. Is it his way of putting Merit in her place? Aren’t they supposed to be more of a couple and on equal ground.. Hmmm?

As things go Lucky Break was a nice enjoyable short to read.

Lucky Break is a novella (#10.5) in author Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series. Merit and Ethan desperately need some time away from their duties and just when they begin a romantic vacation, wouldn't you know it...yep, work calls. This mystery heavily involves the shifter community which was a nice addition. This series never gets old, and even though I would have thoroughly enjoyed reading a fun Ethan and Merit love-fest, I certainly didn't mind this mystery-filled quickie.

My favorite quote:
“It’s a big world,” I said. “I like to fly because it reminds me how huge the planet is and how small we are by comparison. I like that idea—that we’re inconsequential, so our troubles are inconsequential, too.”

This was a nice little novella featuring Ethan, Merit, Gabriel and Damien. It takes them out of the usual setting in Chicago, to a lovely valley in Colorado. (I love Colorado... I wouldn't mind living there one day.) It was nice to change settings after being embroiled in the Chicago drama for the past books.

Ethan and Merit venture to Colorado on vacation, but fall into the middle of an ancient feud between vampires and shifters. They had to call in reinforcements in the form of the yummy Gabriel and delectable Damien. I'm not sure why I am so drawn to the shifters in this series - but I am. Maybe Ms. Neill could be persuaded to give Damien a novella?

This is a short review for a short novella. This one includes romance, drama, murder, and forced spelunking! it's worth the read, so don't skip it as you continue the Chicagoland series.

This was a fun little extra for the Chicagoland Vampires series. A lot of times it seems like Merit and Ethan are always going in two different directions due to their own responsibilities. They just don't always get as much page time them getting to be just them due to the crazy that always surrounds them. So it was really nice to see them at least try to get away together alone. But of course, things wouldn't be that easy, and they land themselves in the middle of a mess. They handle it well, and I have to admit it was fun to see them working on their own without all the other Chicago players in the mix. While there weren't any game changing events in this novella, I have to wonder if the outcome will play a role in the vamp politics coming up in future books. So all in all, this was a fun read that should please fans of the series.

I would have been surprised if Ethan and Merit's vacation had gone without any incident, or as I would say, calamity. I will not rehash what went down, but it nearly cost Ethan his life, again. I have always been an advocate for a trouble free, romantic time for this couple. Well I got a little romance, and some poignant moment of Ethan wishing for Gabriel's prophesy to come true. That is, him and Merit becoming parents. I also got me some 'Yeats' from this novella.

Thanks Chloe Neill for another well written, action packed story, even if it is a novella. It is like you know I miss my book boyfriend too much. Liege. **Sigh** Can't wait for the next full length book.

I love this series, and this novella is a must read. Awesome.

Here is were we come to a vacation for Merit and Ethan. But as you can tell from the overview that thus it's not what they get at all. From the first night they have problems right up until they head home. To help with everything that is going down we have some people from Chicago come to town. Do they really help all that much, not really, but Merit is happily kept feed. It is a short novella under a 100 pages. It felt like a creeper let feeler book more then anything. Not something that needs to be read but was still fun to read. I read the whole thing in about one hour. So ready for Dark Debt after reading the first two chapters.

Well when you finally think Merit and Ethan get a break and take some time off it would be fun. Nonstop action for this couple and shifters thrown in to keep everyone on their toes. Great writing and a great story once again. Loving this kick butt series. Happy reading.

Loved, loved, loved. I can never get enough of Merit and Ethan. This was a great novella about Merit and Ethan trying to take a quick vacation and just enjoy each other with out supernatural drama. Of course that was not to be. The end up in the middle of a shifter/vampire feud. With the help of Gabriel and some of his pack they will get to the bottom of things. This is a quick read and includes a free peek at Dark Debt!! 5 stars!!!

Ethan and Merit try to have a romantic getaway, but trouble always seems to find them. This was a good story, but it didn't get my heart racing like the full-length novels. It did cause a few tears though. Overall, this was a good, quick read.

Merit and Sullivan is going on a hard needed vacation. Obviously trouble lands at their doorstep almost immediately. Vampires and shifters in the area has been fighting for many years and it's up to Merit and Sullivan to calm the waters. I loved this short story.

First let me say I don't care for novellas, I want something I can sink my teeth into! This story seemed weak. It seemed like it could have been resolved decades ago if they had devoted any time to looking for her.

Merit and Ethan go on a vacation and of course disaster strikes. And of course Ethan and Merit and company handle the hell out of it! It's a fun short story and worth reading but it's just not the same satisfaction you get from a full length Ethan & Merit book... But I'm obsessed with these two and will read anything with them in it!!

For anyone interested in the supernatural this is a good series to read. She has an interesting look on vampires and other humanoids. Make 's you sympathize with them. And of course you will fall in love with quite a few.

This was cute and imaginative. Like all of Ms. Neill stories they are exciting, adventurous and full of humor. Ethan and Merit are the perfect couple and I enjoy following there trials. This short story was a tease to wet your whistle until Dark Debt comes out and was completely enjoyable.

A refreshing change to Ethan and Merits Chicago troubles.

They must of had about an hour of freedom for there "holiday" before trouble literally came knocking on their door!

Good read filled with the usual action, drama, fights, love and loss.

All of the books in this series are great. This one was excellent as well. I really enjoyed the main characters. The story line was different and well written. It is always good to have a twist on the plot of the story.
