I really like the story and the characters. I was able to really like, or dislike, the characters and root for or against them as I read the story. enjoyed the twist of the way the kids got the powers and what the powers were, they were well thought out and liked the premise behind it. After finishing the story I had to get the next one and enjoyed it also

Karen did a great job with this series. The teen angst got thick a few times, but she manages to save the tale with some solid character development and a few plot twists that while a bit wild manage to bring the story around to a decent finish.

Some of the conspiracy stuff here is a bit crazy, but it doesn't overwhelm the tale. Well done.

With an interesting plot and a variety of likeable characters, Ms. McQuestion has created an easily readable, enjoyable book. It held my attention, and made me stay up later than I intended. I had fun reading it and look forward to the next book in the series.

I liked Russ' voice - he was believable. The little club intro in the diner the first time felt a little silly and forced but I was willing to get past it. The bad guys were interesting and I'm still not getting the 2nd Gen bit... It wasn't explained and seemed illogical but I imagine it will be explained in the sequel. Fun read.

While this book would be interesting to most. age groups, I KNOW it would appeal to teens. The writing and pace are excellent. Once you accept the premise of teens acquiring special powers, the actions and characterizations are realistic. I also like that the second book will feature Nadia, as she is certainly the most developed secondary character. And I hope to learn Carly 's story.

Anything free, especially a book, is good in my opinion, but this was great! I really found myself getting into the story, and it wasn't at all predictable. It's the sort of story that gives you just information to follow the plot, but leaves enough mystery to have you closing the book wondering what will happen next, and already eager for the next. Definitely worth reading! 5 stars!

I rather enjoyed Edgewood. Relatable characters, interesting story, well written and easy to read. If it weren't for few short cringe-worthy lines of reasoning, it would be five stars. Few hours of good entertainment. Recommended.

This book was great. I love the characters and the story. Cool surprises here and there to keep you on your toes. I have not bought a book since I got my kindle, (two years now) surviving on free downloads but I just may have to buy this next one and that is the best review I can give!!!!

Loved this book! The story line was interesting and different. the characters were easy to like and well described. The whole book was very descriptive and fun to read. Great book for teenagers or even younger, although anyone would enjoy it.

Another great book, easy read not much to think about just sit back and let the story tell it self. The only bad thing about the free book is that I purchase the other books as soon as I am finished with the first one. I don't mind really I can't wait for the 4th book to come out I want to know what happens. The series is somewhat like the book "I Am Number Four" if you like that series you will like this one also. Enjoy.

Usually, I give a rating of fewer than four stars for incompetent writing, simple inability to put words on the page. Karen McQuestion's book is getting three stars for a more complex reason.

Books planned to be the first in a series create a terrible problem for the writer. Every book needs a strong ending, series or not, but with a series the writer can't resolve all the issues that have created the plot in the first novel.

I could see that McQuestion was hitting the necessary plot milestones, and became really curious to see how she would resolve the problems placed in front of the likeable protagonist: moreso as we got to the point where the chase scene ought to be, and there was no identifiable chase scene.

That was because this book ended with a cliffhanger to buy the next in the series, a common marketing strategy among self-publishers. However, because she used it, I don't know whether McQuestion can, in fact, manage the powerful ending which every book needs.

Also, reading the sample attached to the end of this book, I realized that the next book in the series asks me to invest emotionally in a totally different character, one marginal within the first story.

Between that and the possibility that McQuestion cannot, in fact, write a strong ending, I'm not willing to buy any more books in the series, and I probably won't buy anything else of hers unless reviews indicate that the item is a stand-alone. Too bad; McQuestion's characters are well-rounded, interesting people, and she herself a pretty good wordsmith.

Lesson for self-publishers: EVERY book in a series needs to stand on its own.

Good story line but a little bit cookie cutter. I've read a lot of books like this in the YA fiction area lately and they are all a lot like this one. I hope the next one is less predictable. It was a decent story and especially for a first-time reader of this type of fiction/fantasy.

This book kept me reading late into the night. The characters are very convincing and I liked all their personalities. The author knows how to capture the imagination and this book was very flowing! I put the next book Wanderlust on my wish list and when I can afford it I will definitely be buying it. Thank you Karen for an awesome read!

Sadly, very little actually happens other than setting readers up for a series where you keep paying for a never appearing ending. I'll pass. Authors really need to grasp the concept that a story has a beginning, middle and end it they want me to buy their books.

The only reason I'm writing this review is because the reviews here are so overwhelmingly positive. Personally, I don't get it. The storyline is interesting to a point, but the narration is forced and unrealistic, specifically the dialogue. Some of the reviews state that this book is better than Hunger Games, Divergent, etc. No way. I'm sorry, it's not in the same ballpark. As an avid reader, if you can't make me believe in - and care for- the characters by the third chapter, it's not worth it to me. If you haven't read any YA so fat, give it a try. If you've read any good YA before this book, don't waste your time.

Not your typical story written from a teens point of view.No drugs, teen rebellion, gangs or abuse, just four teens who witness a recurring astronomical event that changes their lives and involves them in a power play for the world

A compelling read. Emotionally connected to the characters. Exciting action and full of mystery. Love the secret society element. Interesting commentary on human potential. Love the powers acquired by the teenage protagonists.
