This book is extremely helpful and easy to comprehend. I am personally struggling with the diet- wine and nightshades are my biggest obstacle. However, I do notice a significant difference in my arthritis pain levels and skin's appearance when I stick to the regimen. I would recommend this book for anyone struggling with psoriasis. If you have the commitment and want to really try to overcome psoriasis, then I would absolutely try this diet plan.

I had purchased this book on the store 11 years ago. Before finding the book, I had been going to physicians trying to heal the psoriasis, and none of them helped me to improve. When I bought the book, I decided that I would read and follow the advices. I gave it a shot! It was hard in the beginning because I had to stop eating things that I liked and used to eat daily, such as tomatoes. On the other hand, my diet became healthier. I did drink the weird teas, and gradually stopped eating what Dr. Pagano considers acid-forming foods. The only thing suggested in the book that I did not do was the spine adjustment, because my primary doctor said she had seen patients who did the spine alignment and started to have spine problems. As I did not have any spine problems, and I did not know any reliable chiropractic, I skipped this part.
Since then, I'm careful with what I eat. I don't drink the weird teas anymore, but I very seldom eat some food that contains tomatoes and other "nightshades." I've learned what I can and cannot eat. I am healthy and eat nutritious foods that will not make my blood pH become acid.
Thank you so much Dr. John Pagano for writing this book, and helping to cure many people.

A combination of some of the natural nutritional suggestions, combined with use of coal tar products, has relieved my pesky symptoms very nicely. You can never know too much about psoriasis treatments!

This book is awesome. I've tried several steriod topical creams with minium postive results. As a result, I exhausted all of my medicinal options, so my dermatologist finally recommended a drug used for chemo patients. I had to have my blood work analyized to ensure my liver could withstand the drug. I had psoriasis legions all over my body in just about every area; including an outbreak of psoriasis of the scalp. Thankfully, I found this book and began following the instructions and 97% of my psoriasis legions disappeared. I currently have a small occurance on my eyebrow and a mild to minium psoriasis occurance in my scalp. I'm rating the book with 4 stars because I'm still awaiting the dark spots (healed areas where psoriasis legions existed) to disappear like the pictures in the book. So, I'm going to continue the regimen until I see the change. Since, I didn't see any photos of any people of color in the book I'm not certain my skin will return to its orginal complexion. Thus I rated the book a 4 oppose to a 5. I'm hoping to update this book with a 5 rating in the coming months.

One of the best treatments for Psoriasis was the in housewater softner, Dead sea mineral salt baths (3 x's weekly)Tamanu oil, and tanning. Those three work well for me. took about four weeks but it all healed and I noticed the new little spots dried up within days. But ... and this is critical...your diet has to change!!! Read up on the leaky Gut Syndrom. It has to change drastically while you are having a breakout, and moderately keep your diet clean for life. Your body will love you for it buy dropping some pounds. Other helpful diet things are D3, Cod liver oil, Probiotics, Omega 3, all these will improve your colon health and stop future breakouts. Get to the root of your psoriasis and you will save yourself a lot of money and stop chasing a pill or shot that only takes care of the surface. It your diet don't change you will suffer all of your life. It is tough but your quality of life depends on it. By far the most important thing is to pray and believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and psoriasis will not consume your life, you will find that peace, joy, grace will come through Jesus... Isaiah 53:5 says He was woulded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities. the chastisement needed for our peace and well being was upon Him and with the stripes that wounded Him we are all HEALED and made WHOLE.
God Bless you and be Healed in Jesus name

I just recently purchased this book along with his cookbook.
Even if I was not trying to heal my hand psoriasis, this book
would still appeal to me because it makes sense of the workings
of the body as a complete unit. The diet is not hard to follow but
you have to be willing to commit to big life-style changes. So far,
I am enjoying this way of food shopping, cooking and eating and
am very hopeful it will help my situation.

I have had psoriasis for several years. This book has helped me tremendously. I am addressing internal issues to correct external problems. I highly recommend this book. Maximized Living is another great book for improving your health.

I thought long and hard before writing this lengthy review. I considered not writing it at all, but I know how debilitating psoriasis can be and I wanted to contribute. Obviously, all of this is based on my own anecdotal experience and may not be applicable to you.
Dr. Pagono's book isn't very good. I think it's full of errant advice and unproven conjectures. Dr. Pagano isn't a real doctor. His theories haven't been tested or endorsed by a dermatologist, rheumatologist or even a nutritionist, though he does get an MD to pen his forward. Admittedly, I am biased to Western medicine and "real" science but I don't object to holistic or alternative therapies. I know that Western medicine has got it wrong more times than I can count.
The stories he tells about his cure are uplifting but don't make up for the truly awful recipes he puts forth to help you with the diet. But the awful recipes and lack of credentials are not why I've given his book two stars. I think the whole book could be summarized into a pamphlet. Or maybe even just a title:
DO NOT EAT NIGHTSHADES
Every other diet advice in his book seems completely suspect. The enemas, the apples, the teas, the lamb - I think it's all bulls***. I have no doubt you'll be a healthier person if you give up meat, nitrates, coffee, and all of the other things he restricts. I just don't believe they'll make you more psoriasis free.
I've suffered mild psoriasis for twenty years. Last year, inexplicably, I had a huge outbreak that officially crossed me over into the moderate to severe label. Desperate to try anything before getting into serious drugs like Enbrel, I found the Pagano Diet.
I bought and read it and immediately questioned some of his assertions. For instance, I've been a vegetarian my entire adult life. While it's possible my lack of meat intake spared me from even more severe psoriasis, it seems more probable that a diet involving meat has nothing to do with psoriasis. Furthermore, I had just read a medical study that found no link between coffee and psoriasis. I also discovered that french fries contain almost no solanine compared to regular potatoes.
Given these two direct contradictions and one omission by Pagano, I was very skeptical of the rest of his advice.
But I did stop eating nightshades. For three months I avoided all nightshades and my psoriasis all but went away. Then I went on a nightshade bender for the next six months and my psoriasis made a comeback. It was much more mild, but I immediately cut all my nightshade intake for a month and my psoriasis has all but gone away again. I hypothesize that I can only tolerate so many nightshades before I need to do a cleanse to rid myself of the toxins. Though I'm not positive, I think I can eventually manage a controlled amount of nightshades in my diet.
So in that sense, I'm really grateful to Pagano and his book for informing me about nightshades. Hence the two stars. Were it not for the popularity of his diet I probably would not have discovered the "no nightshades" remedy.
But I honestly think he's doing his readers a disservice. Not eating nightshades is already such a restrictive diet. Adding all of these other limits to the diet is unreasonable if there's no evidence that it's helpful. Perhaps he truly does believe that pepperoni and coffee are contributing factors, but in my experience it simply isn't true. As a vegetarian, I would love it if more people stopped eating meat, but I would never misinform them when it comes to managing their psoriasis.
I don't know if Pagano has an agenda. Maybe he wants to cure psoriasis and make everyone slimmer and healthier at the same time. Perhaps he's just misinformed. Or possibly I'm an outlier within his observations and his advice really is essential for others to control their psoriasis.
Here's all I know for certain, I didn't follow his diet in the least but l I did was stop eating nightshades and my skin is almost psoriasis free. My suggestion to other psoriasis suffers is to stop eating nightshades first before severely limiting the rest of your diet. Hopefully you'll get the same results I did.
EDIT: A year later
My psoriasis continues to be fairly mild. I gave up not eating nightshades about 1 month after my review. I honestly can't decide to what degree nightshades do or don't affect my condition. Part of me thinks my skin just coincidentally got better as I stopped ingesting nightshades. The other part of me fearfully awaits a major breakout as I've been binging on tomatoes, potatoes and peppers for nearly a year. The longer I go without an outbreak while ignoring all of Dr Pagano's advice the more I believe all of his advice is bunk. Of course my individual experience does not constitute data.
If Dr Pagano's method truly is effective, I wonder why he can't find support to fund a real, clinical study that validates his claims. I would love his dietary habits to be the solution, but with my own anecdotal evidence conflicting with his I am more than skeptical. If he truly wants to help people suffering from psoriasis, and probably sell A LOT more books, he'd find a way to get a study done.

For years I'd been afflicted with psoriasis on my scalp, ears, chest, back, elbows and hands, and then I heard about this book from a friend.
One month into the diet, the itching and flaking have all but disappeared and the red patches are gradually becoming smaller.

Excellent eye opener to the treatment of Psoriasis. The diet recommendations are amazing. My rashes have stopped itching and am just waiting for them to subside now. 50% of the rashes have gone away.

This book provides a wealth of information for the patient new to psoriasis. With the lack of help most conventional doctors give you when they prescribe topical steroids, one needs a book like this to provide alternative theories and supportive advice. Well written for the non-medical reader, and upon cleansing, psoriasis is certainly improving.
However, there are some tiny disagreements I have in terms of internal cleansing in general, that this author seems be pretty main stream on. These include: skim milk products, coffee and sugar. In other cleanse books I've read (See Ann Louis Gittleman for great information on cleansing environmental toxins), uncultured dairy, caffeine and sugar are to be avoided completely. Pagano hesitates to make this clear amongst all of the other dietary restrictions (maybe so he doesn't scare anyone away from trying the cleanse). Perhaps they do not inflame psoriasis, but they certainly don't help along the digestive or filtration process. I'm not a nutritionist, but this is one issue I had with "healing psoriasis". Otherwise, a recommendation.

I have barely begun to implement J Pagano's treatments but what he is saying parallels and further explains what other doctors have written and elaborates s specific regimen to follow. I am already experiencing less irritation with my psoriasis based on eliminations of foods that trigger the condition. So few doctors seem to know how to treat this condition without prescribing drugs that have worse side effects than the disease they are supposedly treating
