This was the first manga I ever read (as well as the first anime I watched), so it naturally holds a special place in my heart. And I still love it. The manga is definately better than the anime, and if you're looking for a well-written manga with detailed, excellent artwork--I'd highly recommend Naruto!

Comic book (approximately 170 pgs) black and white about a Japanese ninja 12 year old boy from the Hidden leaf village. Apparently, there's a secret everyone's keeping from him about the destruction of the village some years before. An adolescent story of making friends, working dilligently, and exceeding expectations. Naruto is a funny kid that is clumsy, a show-off, and adorable.

Naruto is arguably the most famous manga in the world. This volume being the introduction of this manga means that it is a must read for any manga fan. Odds are there will be something you'll like if not love. The translation is spot on and the art is pretty good. The story will improve and the so will the art as the series goes on.

Our 11 y/o is finally enjoying to read because of these books. I haven't the slightest clue as to what they are about, but he sure does and he loves them. No more fighting to get him to complete his 1 hour of mandatory reading/day. Often times, he can put the books down ( I am slowly buying him the monster collection of Naruto books that he has wanted.

I have been a fan since the anime aired on Cartoon Network and have read a few chapters of the manga. This book is perfect for those who are great fans of the series and the special chapter was an amazing experience. I also loved the editors choice when choosing some of those great chapters. Some I had only seen via the anime. By all means get this Manga.

I don't like some of the English translations Viz Media uses for its Japanese counterpart. Why put doppelganger jutsu instead of shadow clone jutsu? The latter is more accurate and sounds better.
3 stars because Naruto is pretty great but some translation choices make it feel weird to read.

I would check it out if you have a kindle (it's free), but otherwise it's really just clips of moments that depending on your taste you might or might not like. Either way though, if you really like the series then you would buy the complete manga or anime. And if your new to the series, then start from the beginning I don't think you'll understand why these scenes are interesting or important otherwise. In the end though this is harmless. I just don't recommend it because I don't see the point of it.

This book has some insane amount of water damage even for a "good" standing and to boot the package it came it didn't have a shipping receipt but it did get here in a timely manner and technically has all of it's pages so it won't get one star. But I have to say if returning it wouldn't cost me more then it did to buy it I would have returned it in a heart beat.

This is Naruto, Volume 1 with special Shonen Jump 40th anniversary insert. Naruto is a ninja-in-training with a need for attention, a knack for mischief and, sealed within him, a strange, formidable power. His antics amuse his instructor Kakashi and irritate his teammates, intense Sasuke and witty Sakura, but Naruto is serious about becoming the greatest ninja in the village of Konohagakure Believe it.Angel Cat: Anime Manga Comic Book Ghost Soul Angel Heaven War Battle Good vs Evil Teenager Cat (0)

Naruto, Volume 1 tells the story of a young ninja in training with a secret past. An orphan, he loves instant ramen more than anything in the world, except perhaps when his master takes him to the noodle store. Like the beginnings of most fighting manga, this story starts with Naruto being the class clown in the ninjitsu academy. There are the usual trials and tribulations that students go through, but it's actually well done, compared to most manga at this stage.

Naruto is a great character, and the manga is pretty funny. While the TV show most American fans are familiar with might be suitable for children, the manga is definitely for a teen audience or older. I'm no prude, and I don't think the described reasons for it being rated 13+ are particularly convincing. There is one instance of particularly crude humor that I wouldn't want my 10-year-old nephew reading. The rest is fine, though, and I kinda' think that the author made a mistake in making this a 13+ publication. It's perfect for kids except for ONE GAG. ****1/2, otherwise.

I had my first exposure to Naruto through the anime series, so I decided to take a look at the manga to see how the two compared. The early episodes of the anime definitely followed the manga rather closely.

Naruto, the title character of the series, is an orphan who has decided that he will one day become the Hokage (the leader) of the village where he lives. Unfortunately, Naruto isn't the best of students at the ninja academy, and he's constantly pulling pranks to force people to pay attention to him. It turns out that, unknown to Naruto, the fourth Hokage sealed a fox demon that was attack the village into Naruto when he was baby. The Hokage died soon after, but he had hoped that the villagers would view Naruto as a hero. Instead, the adults of the village shunned him, hence why Naruto feels he needs to to act outrageously in order to get noticed. After being tricked by a ninja academy instructor to steal a scroll, Naruto learns a cloning technique that becomes his signature jutsu during the series. Naruto is saved by his teacher, Iruka, and manages to graduate from the ninja academy with his class.

The Naruto manga series shows Naruto as he grows both as a person and as a ninja. From reading the first volume from the manga, you don't realize just how much further the series will go; the only reason I knew when reading this volume was because I had already seen quite a few episodes of the anime series.

Naruto isn't a bad manga series at all, but it can be a little slow to get going. However, if you're willing to stick it out, you'll see just how much deeper the series gets over time. While the early volumes of the manga may be suitable for pre-teen readers, the themes in the later volumes are probably better suited for older teens.

In order to write this review, I checked out a copy of this manga through the King County Library System.

This by far is one of my personal favorites out of my 87 manga book collection. The story is good, the characters are cool, and the art is perfect.

In this edition of Naruto, Naruto tries to pass a ninja exam, but failed. Since Naruto has failed this 3 years before, he is very sad. But then one of his teachers tells him if he steals the sacred scroll and learns what is in it, that he will surely pass. The other teacher doesn't know about Naruto stealing it and later Naruto is wanted for stealing it and all the people are seaching for him. Then the evil teacher finds him and tells him to give him the scroll. Naruto refueses, and then the good teacher that failed him shows up. After some cool fighting the evil teacher tells Naruto a secret that is agaist the law to tell him! It is that when he was born, the soul of a satanic demon fox that terrorize the city years ago was stealed into his body, thus making Naruto the living sacrafice of the demon fox! The good master being inraged by the evil teacher telling him this attacks the evil teacher and they fight. But the evil teacehr is to much for him and he is beaten and thrown agaist a tree with a gaint star-thingy thrown in his chest. Naruto also becomes inraged and uses one of the tricks tha the learned from the sacred scroll. Naruto makes 1000 solid douplegangers of himself and attacks (NOTE:normal douplegangers are just allusions but the thing so cool about Naruto's is that they are all real and attack in different ways at the same time!)Of course the evil teacher is beaten and after thinking about it the good teacher passes Naruto as a Ninja. The next day Naruto wakes up and then goes to school. He goes into 3 man cels and that will be his team through his training. But what hardships await Naruto? You'll have to read the book to find out! BUY THIS BOOK AT ALL COSTS!

Naruto the manga was better than I thought it would be. From what I heard, it seemed pretty juvenile, simplistic, unimaginative, and aimed at young teen boys. Thankfully, I picked up the first volume and it was a treat.

The story is about Naruto, a short, spiky-haired juvenile delinquent who desperately wants to become a full-fledged ninja. He lives in a hidden village. The village is run by an older ninja leader called a Hokage. Someday, he will be succeeded - and Naruto has set his goals high.

Unfortunately, Naruto is an outcast in every way. Shunned by both adults and peers, his only friend is a young teacher named Ikura. All the kids in the village, girls and boys, attend Shinobi school. Naruto, though a poor student overall, has mastered a couple of ninja techniques, one of which is the "Ninja Centerfold." Naruto needs to graduate. He is put in a group with his secret crush Sakura, who loathes him, and Sasuke, a handsome boy whom Sakura loves.

The art is very good. The village buildings look very whimsical, just what you would expect of a hidden village. No thatched roof huts here. The action is drawn really, really well. Fights and action sequences flow smoothly. There is no confusion as to who is fighting who. And there is a lot of humor and funny moments.

I am looking forward to the rest of the manga.

I first came across Naruto in my little bro's copy of shonen jump. At first glance, it looks very childish and has no real depth of a story. It feels like it's a rough 'em up and take them down manga and I dismissed it.
But when the 1st volume came out, I was captivated by the bright cover art and the style of the drawings as I flipped through it. I bought it compulsively and I was blown away by it.
The artwork is not too cluttered and it's very easy on the eye. But the characters were the main reason why I fell in love with this book.
They are fully developed and very well written. You get the reasons behind their motives and as you understand them, you get to like them better. This is the case especially with Uzumaki Naruto, who at first seems like a bratty little jerk you want to bat around until you see that there's a lot more going on underneath the surface and he comes off as someone that you wouldn't mind being friends with. The same goes with Sasuke and the teacher characters. I recommend getting this book and the others that follow for well rounded action and good characters.

Six years ago I began watching the Naruto series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Six years later I still keep up with it, and now I've started to invest in the manga series.

This first book is brilliant. The art, the storyline, the characters. It is the beginning of an era, and while I remember being slightly bored by this series until the Chuunin exams, I now find these first novels to be entirely captivating. You'll meet Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura; you'll love these characters and witness their first challenge of gratuating school and becoming full-fledged ninja.

There will be scenes in the manga that didn't make the anime, and things in the anime that didn't make the manga. All in all I think it's a worthy to invest in them both. In between each chapter you will find concept art and meet the writer behind the series.

Buy this series. If it doesn't captivate you immediately have no fear because I initially felt the same way. You soon will.

Taking place in an alternate version of Japan, Naruto is one of the most popular manga and anime series running today! In the ninja village of Konohagakure, young Uzumaki Naruto is training with the rest of his peers to graduate from the ninja academy and become full-fledged shinobi. With his impressive "Centerfold Attack" and "Doppleganger Ambush" techniques, Naruto has just barely made it through the training. He is revered by the rest of his clan because he is the reincarnation of a evil fox spirit that once ravaged the lands. Hoping to overcome this, Naruto sets out to be the next Hokage which is an elite brand of ninja. Being seperated into groups with the rest of his class, the other members of his finals team are made up of the school babe Sakura and the resident elitist Sasuke. They are paired to go against the upperclass shinobi Kakashi in order to pass. Pulling out all the stops, the three of them try their best in order to bring down the elite warrior. The Naruto manga is great with tons of intense action and pure hilarious comedy. Put it in your library now!

Are you an avid manga reader ? Do you salivate at the thought of owning the complete Ruroni Kenshin or Dragon Ball Z? Then I totally recommend Naruto. It mixes intense Ninja Action, screwball comedy and thrilling suspense and plot twists. There are ten volumes of Naruto available and I own volumes 1-9 so you know you can trust me. Each Naruto volume gets better every time and is never disappointing. If you enjoy Naruto, other manga from Shonen Jump I might recommend to you are One Piece and Dragon Ball Z which have (like Naruto ) Great battle sequences. Manga from Viz Media I would recommend are Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2. They combine thrilling action with hilarious comedy. To sum it all up Naruto is my favorite manga and is one of the best manga in the world. Plus if you like the manga you can purchase the anime (Japanese animation or cartoon) on DVD. It may not be as good as the manga but it's still nice to have to add to your treasured collection of manga and anime.

Naruto is one of my favorite manga series. It is full of character-development, humor, and action. In Japan, they are nearly up to chapter 285, so if you're just starting this brilliant series, you have quite a long way to go. (Some spoilers ahead)

The story follows a young boy (Naruto) in his quest to become the Hokage of Konoha Village (Hidden Leaf Village). The Hokage is the leader and presently unsurpassable shinobi (ninja) of the village. In following Naruto, we learn a dark secret that was unknown even to him. Years ago, when Naruto was first born, a demon (the Kyuubi) was sealed inside of him by the 4th Hokage to save the village. This made Naruto one of the Jinchuuriki. Ultimately, this led Naruto to be ostracized and neglected. He has never had a true friend. The closest thing to a parent he has is Iruka, his sensei.

After Naruto becomes a Genin (the lowest rank of shinobi), many interesting things happen. We are introduced to three new characters (who become incredibly important as the series progresses): Sakura (a girl from Naruto's class, she's very bright), Sasuke (another student who is supposedly the only surviving member of the Uchiha Clan), and Kakashi (the sensei of the three students). These four main characters are given depth and purpose as we learn about their past and intentions. Though it is a long wait until everything about them is revealed (Sakura is actually somewhat shallow for about 40 chapters), it is worth it.

Once all of these characters are introduced, the plot takes a turn and the three are given their first "real" mission. It has a depressing conclusion and they return back to the village with a much better understanding as to what it truly means to be a shinobi.

Now things get a bit hectic.

Perhaps describing what ensues as "all-out war" is not appropriate, but in some ways it is. During the three student's participation in the Chunnin Exam (a test which allows one to increase their shinobi rank), we are introduced to Orochimaru, a genius with malicious intentions. Jounin clash as the Exam is ended due to erratic circumstances. Devious antagonists make their move and we at last see just how thin the bonds and trust must be between villages to ensure the citizens survival. The Hokage is captured and an awe-inspiring battle takes place between sensei and student.

I am getting ahead of myself. What should be understood when starting the series is this: it is a masterpiece. A carefully woven story unfolds as years of planning pass. Akatsuki make their move and brilliant battles occur. The plot opens up and what started as a simple story following an orphan trying to prove himself to others becomes a carefully constructed conspiracy involving immortality and power.

The first volume is a great introduction. The artwork has not yet fully matured, but it is still very good. The plot is very basic at first but will evolve into something more complex. Buy this and become immersed as you follow a boy who wishes to be acknowledged, an avenger with wavering trust, a love-sick girl with an intellect, and one of the coolest jounin you will ever encounter.

Naruto is a masterpiece. Do not miss out on this classic series.

Long ago, an evil nine tailed fox demon reaked havoc on the Hokage village. When they finnaly subdued the demon, they sealed him away in the body of a newborn child named Naruto. Even though the demon is gone, the adults of the village hate Naruto and see him as a threat. And by influence of the adults, the children hate him too, and they don't even know about his past. So in order to draw some attention to himself, the orphaned Naruto always pull pranks or does some act of vandilism. He knows very well that the entire town hates him and after 12 years he finds out why.
Naruto is a verry good manga created by a verry talented man. It's an action packed and hilarious story about becoming a great ninja. With many supporting charactors such as Sakura his crush, Sasuke his rival, and Kakashi his teacher the series is never boring. Kakashi is exceptionaly enjoyable as the layed back fighter who loves to read "make out paridise".
Though originaly out in shonen jump magazine, Naruto has made it on to graphic novel format so more people can enjoy it.
Well all in all Naruto is a great manga and I highly recamend it!

WARNING: THIS REVIEW INCLUDES MOSTLY INFO ABOUT THE 1ST EPISODE AND SOME OF THE 1ST ISSUE OF THE MANGA

Naruto is about a young boy named Naruto Uzumaki who has a tailed beast sealed inside him called the Nine Tails. In the 1st issue which is where it all begins it starts with a flashback to the the Nine tails attack on the village 12 years ago. You see a man who is standing on a giant toad which name will be revealed later on. He seals the monster inside a baby with his sealing jutsu. Jutsu is a skill that varies in three types. Ninjutsu, Genjutsu and Taijutsu but the only important jutsu in this issue is shadow clone jutsu which will contain clones of you that can help out. But off that topic and returning to the subject of that man he dies and it turns out the baby he sealed the monster in is Naruto and that man was the Fourth Hokage. A Hokage is the leader of The hidden leaf village or hidden leaf. Anyway off the topic of the past it starts with Naruto running around the village causing trouble and painting on the Hokage's faces which are carved into a mountain. He does not know he actually has a monster in him for the moment and everyone rejects him for it and the sad part is he doesn't not even know. He is the class clown and the troublemaker of The Hidden Leaf Village and nobody likes him and the closest thing he has to a friend is Iruka Umino his sensei and teacher at the Ninja Academy which is basically School. Naruto has no parents and lives in a small apartment . He is very lonely and can relate to Iruka sensei because his parents died in the attack. Naruto's favorite food is ramen and that is how Iruka got him to clean his mess up on the mountainside faces. Naruto needs to graduate his ninja academy this year so he can finally move up so he works hard. However evil is always there and in this issue it was kinda like a side teacher to Iruka named Mizuki. To pass this year Iruka tells students at the day of the exam and calls them up one by one. This year you had to make 3 clones and Naruto could not even make one good one so he failed. Later on when Naruto was alone once again and while everybody was being congratulated by their parents Mizuki told Naruto to take secret scrolls and learn a new Jutsu so he could pass. It turned into a real emergency but even though Naruto was being deceived he learned one of his most used Justus ever called Shadow Clone Jutsu. Eventually the battle between Naruto and Iruka vs Mizuki broke out. It was very emotional and it was filled with a lot of deepness in the fight. Mizuki even told Naruto how he has the beast inside him that attacked the village which was forbidden. Later Naruto used his newly developed jutsu to beat Mizuki and graduate from the academy and things will only get better on from here.

Finally! I saw this rare piece of volume under the shelves of Page One Bookstore in Hongkong, so i grabbed it immediately.

Wow, I can really see why this is the number one manga in the world.
The first chapter touched my heart, and it made me crying.
Masashi Kishimoto has pure talent for transforming characters, and his stories to unique, fascinating ones.
I feel so bad for Naruto, because his parents died(I cried at that part too) protecting him.
And this story is really inspirational. It tells you to not give up, and give you some character backgrounds that could give you life pointers.
Don't give up. And that's what happened to Naruto in the end. He became a Seventh Hokage.

naruto, you could say at first glance seems like a tyical shounen manga... a loud-noisy-misbehaving-and-mischievious protagonist, lots of action, fast-paced plot and humor abound. what makes it atypical is that beneath the brash exterior is the hidden soft center. face it, naruto is a bleeding heart in disguise.

naruto is an orphan with a mysterious past who is known as the #1 troublemaker in the shinobi (ninja) village of hidden leaf. the story starts of with him in the midst of a prank, much to the anoyance of the villagers. what we don't know (yet) is why he finds it absolutely imperative to do so... resulting in his behavior. mysteriously, nearly all the adults of hidden leaf is cold and antagonistic towards him, which inadvertently results in his seclusion even amongst kids his age. it doesn't help that naruto isn't exactly the average high achiever at ninja academy, in fact, he has always been the last in his class. studies isn't exactly one of his finer points. the story moves on quickly; his third attempt at graduation exam leads him from one problem to another, all without losing a beat. amidst all the madness and general shunning of the village population, only naruto's homeroom teacher seems to understand what goes on in naruto's head. ironically, this doesn't stop naruto from making trouble for iruka-sensei...

i really do like the artwork in naruto, even if may seems to be unaccustomed to it. after seeing many mangas with generally sparse art, i find the illustrations of this manga to be detailed and lively. the village in the background seems to come alive with daily activities and the combination of modern infrastructure and mystical ninja arts makes an interesting combination. i like that naruto takes place in an alternate universe, and the contrasts of the ancient and new in this world makes it unique and entertaining.

the characters are also very endearing, and one finds it hard not to be attached to at least one of them. in fact, i am fond of a few! although there seems to be stereotypical characterization, somehow none of them seems stale. what makes them special is that each of them has their quirks and depth. and for a cast with ever expanding numbers, i have to tip my hat to the mangaka for making them distinct and personable.

let me warn you though, that while this book is full of hijinks and humor, it also is unexpectedly rife with tear-inducing scenes and angsty undertone. it's one of the few books that could make you cry and laugh at the same moment. i've read nearly all the chapters there is of naruto (currently 200+ and still going on strong), and i have to say it's like that all the way. personally, i won't read this in public coz i know it'll be a tragic day indeed when i laughed at one moment and then burst into tears the next for all and sundry to see.

another quirk concerning this series is that one of the most mentioned about character in this series, the 4th hokage (also called by his other title, yondaime) is a character shrouded in mystery. other than his title and his incredible skills and reputation, hardly anything is known about him, not even his real name. for a character that only appears in flashbacks and conversations his legacy is undoubtedly far reaching and incidentally, he's one of my favorite characters. i'd love to see if kishimoto will dedicate a chapter or two on the 4th hokage, and how he will be portrayed.

naruto is, imho, a true gem in the world of shounen manga, and perhaps even in the world of mangas in general. even after (currently) 24 volumes published in japan, it hasn't lost its freshness, intensity and gripping plot that makes readers clamor for more, yours truly included. quite a feat indeed. this is not a manga to be missed.

I'm actually in my mid-twenties and I can't put this book down. At first when I saw it on Cartoon Network I thought "this is stupid, a mischevous Bart Simpson clone who stars in his own anime." But seeing how popular it had become I decided to buy the first DVD boxed set with money that was burning a hole in my pocket. After that I was hooked! I had to start buying all of the manga because I can't stand waiting to find out what happens next. Even though I'm definently not an Otaku, and reading right-to-left gives me a headache; it never slowed me down even a little bit. I read all 11 books in less than a week and I even bought the Shonen Jump magazine to see one of the conclusions.

The character development is great, there isn't a single one that I think they should do without. Naruto has a lot of heart and it is a pretty inspirational story. I'd be lying if I said I didn't even get choked up at some parts. It's also very unpredicable, the protagonists don't always win, the antagonists aren't always as tough as they seem. One thing is for sure, it's full of suprises. It is almost like it's own little world that forms itself in real-time. I think many non-anime fans may even like it too.

I bought this for my son, who I think will enjoy manga. I read it first so I would have some hope of answering his questions.

I thought the first volume did a good job of presenting the character and showing why he feels alienated and like acting out. The supporting characters evolved over the course of the volume. I could follow the fight scenes, which was impressive because it's a problem I have with all graphical storytelling.

Read if: you are looking for a substantial but not-too-adult entrance to manga.

Skip if: you don't think you can learn to read right-to-left.

Twelve years ago, there lived a powerful and fearsome fox spirit. This fox and its legendary nine tails caused devastation everywhere they went. But, when the fox traveled through the fire country, the shinobi of Konohagakure village (Village hidden among the fallen leaves) attacked Kyubi, the Devil fox. Together, with the help of the fourth hokage (fire shadow) they captured it and sealed it in newborn child. The fourth hokage died during the sealing, and the boy, Naruto, grew up with Kyubi sealed inside of him, unbeknownst to him. The third Hokage came out of retirement to rule. All of the people of the Konohagakure village shunned Naruto. He had no parents to love or love him back. He grew up alone, and twelve years later this manga starts.
This manga by Masashi Kishimoto has become extremely popular in Japan. Its unique art style lets you pick it out among all others, and unlike Dragonball and other fighting manga, this one plays out the battle with each kick, punch, and kunai thrown. This is a refreshingingly new way to present it.
Naruto is built around its memorable personalities. Naruto, Konohamaru, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Haku, Zabuza, Gaara of the sand, Temari, Kankuro, Orochimaru, Kabuto, Shikamaru, Chouji, Ino, Shino, Hinata, Jiraiya, Ebisu, Anko, Gai, Lee, Neji, Tenten, Princess Tsunade, and even Gama Bunta (toad boss) and his sons gamukichi and gamutachi. As each comes and goes, they are all remembered for what they did, and how they changed.
Naruto is a manga that has broken barriers, for the better. This has quickly become my favorite manga in Shonen Jump, and I'd recommend to any newcomer, and every seasoned veteran of manga.
As a last note, When and if the Naruto OST (song album) comes out, I would recommend it to anyone. The music is classic, and "Wind" by Akeboshi is a song that ranks way up there with "Tank" of Cowboy Bebop. Also when the Anime comes out, I recommend buying the subtitled version as long as it is not edited. No edited Anime is worth buying. It takes out the heart of manga, its realism. I've seen many screenshots of the Naruto anime and it looks awesome, so you should check it out. To make a note, I know many people are furious with Viz for butchering the translation. Yes, they did, but as the translation WAS approved by Masashi Kishimoto, I have no problem with it. For all those who want to read the actual names of techniques, you can go to narutoguide.com which includesoth the japanese and American names for the manga. Although it hasn't been updated in almost a year (wonder why?) It has every technique up to chapter one-twenty or so. So, if your bored reading "Art of the Doppeldanger", or the "Art of substitution", you can always head out there and enlighten yourself.

I have to say i was a little uneasy about Naruto when i started reading it in Shonen Jump, my sister told me "Its about a boy who can turn into a girl". So i thought why in the world would i want to see that. But after looking over a couple chapters i couldnt really get into it, but it was because i hadnt seen the beginning, so after Naruto finally premiered on Cartoon Network i had no choice but to watch it. I bought volume 1 of the manga the next day. This Manga is really great, i like to read the chapters as they appear on tv. It seems a little slow at first but it always leaves you wanting more. I bought mine a couple weeks before the one with the calendar came out, so i didnt get one. I reccomend getting the one with the calendar!

Naruto volume one is a fantastic start to a great series. Although most of it's characters and plot is kinda ripped off from Hunter X Hunter, it's a pretty good series! I have read all 72 volumes and think that the first one is probably one of the most memorable. Its a must read for any manga lover, or even if you are a new arrival to the manga section of the world, Naruto is a great start! Just make sure not to judge this series by the first 3 volumes. It gets better on the 4th!

I'm totally psyched about this book. I've read 4 out of 7 of the series. I love this book so much I did a book report about it and got an A. But any way its about a boy that adults ignore because he has a Demon fox inside of him. The kids in the village dont know about the Fox but neither does Naruto but kids pick on him because he shows off and acts like a brat because he doesnt have parents and needs attention and love. Him and his Rival Sasuke and his crush Sakura team up for ninja missions with their Adult leader Kakashi and meet new ninjas make new enemies and go to new places so Naruto can become the next HOKAGE!!! Its a great new manga but please only read it if your 11 or Older their is some blood. Oh Im 12. This first turned me on to manga... its just that great.

I have to be honest. As a general rule, I don't like manga. I love anime but I generally hate manga. This one's different. Out of all the manga I read, this is the overall best. Oh, and don't listen to that other guy. The translations can be cool like Naruto's Doppleganger Technique when he creates 1,000 copies of himself and bashes Mizuki into pudding. The translations can also be hysterical like Earth Type Groundhog Decapitation (I won't reveal the joke. I'll leave it at telling you it's hysterical. All in all I would buy this because it's definately worth reading and I couldn't find it in a library. One more thing... I am not twelve, I just happen to lack an e-mail adress

Naruto, a very popular manga series, comes to the United States. The problem is next volume of Naruto is three months apart from each other! The series that started out as a small series in a monthly magazine called Shojen Jump (who also published the series later) is now one of the biggest things to hit the world since Pokemon or Dragonball Z!

In the village hidden in Leaves and Trees, there lives ninjas who are sworn to protect everyone who lives there. There is the strong, the gifted, the smart, and then there is Uzamaki Naruto. Naruto, the village prankster wants to surpass all ninjas and become the top ninja, Hogage!

The series is very well put together but the wait time of three months is just too much to bare for anyone who reads the series. I recommend that you read the series but also buy the next volumes as well, because I guarantee that you'll be wanting more to read after the first one!

Naruto Volume 1, with the three month waiting period, gets a five stars out of five!

My name is Amone! Adios!

Naruto vol.1 is the beginning of a long and suspenseful journey of a loud mouth child who you grow to like as his story is told through the shows. He goes through big changes and slowly grows up into a strong willed character.
If you are looking for a entertaining book with a great plot and awesome characters and are just starting to like manga i highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new book to devour.
Try it, you'll be surprised.

This is a series review rather than a review of just the first book. There's a bit too much recap for me to give this five stars but it is an extremely good series. This is a really well developed world with a lot of very good characters. I like the art a lot. It has some very funny parts. I have a running joke with my friends that was inspired by the ultimate ninjitsu technique ("A thousand years of pain!") from this series. I read this series again recently and still really enjoyed it despite having read it a few times before.

If you're one of the many `Narutards' religiously following the anime, you won't see much of a difference between that and Masashi Kishimoto's original work (though you wouldn't be a true Narutard if you didn't read it). If anything, the manga leaves some gaps the anime fills in, especially in action scenes. And the renaming of ninja techniques will still piss off purists. It's still worth it to read about Kishimoto's experience with the manga in the brief snippets and concept art wedged between each chapter. Believe it!

This comic is rated T for Teen: Graphic Violence.

Naruto is an action-packed book about a young boy who aspires to become a great ninja. He lives in the village of Konohagakure. His parents died when he was young, fighting a nine-tailed fox demon. He grew up by himself and pulled lots of pranks on others. After training at the ninja academy for some time, Naruto takes his test for the third time. And for the third time, he fails miserably. After his test, an older ninja named
Mizuki finds him. Mizuki tell Naruto that he needs a scroll to learn secret moves so that he can get his teacher, Iruka, to pass him. Iruka finds Naruto later, practicing with the stolen scroll. Then to everyone's surprise, Mizuki shows up and wounds Iruka. Naruto uses the shadow clone that the scroll taught him to defeat Mizuki, but not before tell tells Naruto that the fox demon that destroyed his village and killed his parents is trapped inside Naruto!
Days afterwards, Naruto is in the office of Hokage, the village leader, when he meets the Hokage's grandson. The grandson is an energetic boy younger than Naruto, who aspires to be the Hokage, as does Naruto. Naruto takes him on as an apprentice for a while, but they decide to become rivals and they part ways.
Later, Naruto is put onto a team with two other ninjas. They face their first mission; trying to take two bells from their instructor. The trio of apprentices (Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura) each tries to take the bells individually, but they are outmatched. As the bells ring, Kakashi tells the apprentices that they all failed and that they will never become ninjas!
I gave this book four starts because I loved the action. The only reason that it is not five stars is because I did not like the cliffhanger ending. Well, happy reading.

the book was advertised as a special collectors edition with 3 volumes, but it was only one volume. the sender put a cover on it that looked like the special edition with 3 volumes, but underneath the cover was only a single volume, no special edition. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED that someone would do this.

I love anime. I saw this at my local bookstore. Having read various reviews online about how GOOD it is, I decided to give it a try and I bought volume 1. This is a great start to what seems to be a great series! There is action and alot of comedy to keep you entertained. The art is very well done and I continue to wonder how they put so much detail in such small spaces. The storyline is pretty good and very interesting. I'm definately getting volume 2...and 3...and 4...and 5...and so on...

Perfect 5 out of 5!!

This one of the best, if not the best, anime series out. It is about a group of 12 year olds genins (beginner ninjas) in a Ninja Village who are trying to become chuunins (upper level ninjas).
This anime has excellent character development and is quite fun to read so that you can see how the characters will develop. The drawing is quite good and further helps the wonderful story. I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of anime or wants to start reading anime.
Although this is just newly released in the US it already has a strong and growing fan base on the internet that will only grow larger now that the anime is available to all.

I'm no Naruto fanatic. I think it's cool, but I don't buy all the manga (read it in Shonen Jump) Don't keep track of the latest dvds, and don't put it on my wishlist for Naruto games. But I'll give it its props. It's pretty sweet.

IT has spawned so many things and came out of nowhere here in the U.S, no one knew about the manga, as soon as the anime aired on cartoonnetwork, everybody went wild. I was a manga fan before, (started at 7) and could only watch as Manga spread, everyone wanting to read what happened next in Naruto.

Before, on almost every cover was Yu-Gi-oh (of SJ magazine) now, unless there picking a special time to use One piece or something, Naruto Dons the Iissue everywhere.

Story wise, it's not bad. Don't give it to kids under... 13. There's some swearing, as well as blood. So parents might wan't to just let the kids watch the anime.

This was my first manga sieries and my first favorite. It's a great manga very exiting, great story, great drawings, and the characters are very lively and funny but there may not be picturs suitibal for kids under 10 years of age like the violence and certain inappropriate things.

Really i don't get why people don't like NARUTO but it's there stupidity so don't listen to them. But for those who don't know you probobly should that in manga you have to read right to left instead of left to right but don't worry you'll get used to it.

But any way the sieries boils down to a demon fox who tries to destroy the land. And a powerful ninja ( by the way the storys about ninjas ) seals the demon in a baby boy and when the boy grows up he's dispised so he has a dream to be the best ninja ever so he can get respect aside from the fact that he acts like a 4 year old. But later on in the sieries he becomes more mature. But still don't be surprised if the story goes down hill from volumes 2 through 4 because it's all Zabuza and he won't die and it get's annoying. My personal favorite is volume 7.

Anyway you won't be dissapointed with this seiries trust me.

some other manga that i perfer are Whistle!, One Piece, the Prince of tennis, hikaru no go, MAR, Zatch Bell, Gamerz Heaven, Shaman King, Dragon Ball Z, and Yu-Gi-Oh. Bleach I would give 4 stars and Yu Yu Hakusho i would give three and a half stars.

This is the first book in the Naruto series. In this book, we are introduced to Naruto, a troublemaking teenager who wants one thing more than anything else: To become the best ninja in the world!

This is an amazing series. At first I avoided it, thinking that it would be to boyish for my tastes, but once I started reading I couldn't put it down. The jokes are great, the art is crisp and clear, and the characters are fun and unique.

If there is any downside to this manga, it is that the pacing can be a little uneasy at some times. There are points where it drags on, as well as points where the story goes a bit fast, but aside from that this is an excellent series that should be in everyones collection.

Artwork: 8/10 Story: 9/10 Characters: 9/10 Overall: 9/10 Trying to get a friend or family member interested in manga? This is a great book for martial arts fans. Some swearing, violence (though no exploding guts or the like) make this book for ages 13 or older.

The book I was reading was Naruto book 1. It is a very good book to me, and also very intresting. There is alot of action in this book. Me and my freinds love this book so I think other people would love this book to. This book is about a kid named Naruto his goals are to make people to acknolege him, and he thinks the only way to do thatis to defeat the master of the village. He is very lonley because his mom and dad died when he was very little. So now he does anything to get attention mostly jokes, and pranks. I would reccomend this book to people who like action, and funny books. This book is gerat you should read is i'm sure you will love it.

Naruto how to begin.... I know! Well I saw it in store one day. I didn't think much about it but later that day I called my friend in KS. She started taking about Naruto. She said that she watched it on TV and that she wished that it was a manga book. I then told her that I saw the book at the book store that day and then the next time I went to the store I thought that I should buy it. I did and it was great. And now, the story of Naruto. In the world of Naruto is a wrold were ninjas are the ultimate power. A boy, Naruto wants to be the best ninja in the villige. To prove himself to the people of the villiage. Now here is were it gets a little sad Naruto is an orphan his parents were killed by a evil nine tailed demon fox and not just his parents were killed by the fox but thousands of people as well. To make matters worse the demon fox's spirit is locked inside of Naruto. Poor Naruto lives all alone as a orphan and all the villiagers hate him. The only way for him to get attention is for him is to play pranks and he will never have a parents love. Moving on, he Sasuke and the strogist kid in the akadme Sasuke narutos rival but sasuke dosent even pay atenchen to naruto and there sensa Kakashi. Ending is to good to miss it is a huge cliff hanger. If you do not like cliff hangers ties is not a series for you. All of the Naruto Books end with a cliff hanger. One more thing I have to add is the #1 manga person in the USA is Kakashi Narutos sensa . I highly recamend Naruto. It is one of my favorites I have read all eight books and most of book nine in sneak peaks so I highly recamend it for kids from ten to fiften years old. Enjoy Shonen Jump Graphic Novel Naruto I highly rekamend it!!!!!!!! It is a very good book. If you like Naruto you may like Rave Master,Tokyo Mew Mew if you are a girl, and you like Cardcaptor Sakura and if you are a girl, and you can't go wrong with Fruit Basket. Naruto is also on cartoon Netwerk on Friday at 7:30 to 8:00 and at 8:00 to 8:30. I love Naruto, I hope you do to.

I'm a girl, but I'm a big fan of shonen manga and this is one of my favorite mangas.I'd have to seriously think about if I like Rave Master or Naruto better.Anyway,I'm a big Naruto fan,and I think that most people would love this manga. For those of us who are squemish, like I am a bit,you may end up having the same first impression that I did: 'It's too bloody'.Some of the scenes are bloody, but this is still an excellent manga title.I read the entire title at the store before buying it because I was so absorbed in it.After I finished,I just couldn't wait to get volumes two and three.I believe that this series has realistic characters, given the situation,a feat a lot of manga-ka cannot acommplish.Naruto, for starters,is a young prankster who is detirmined to try his hardest at his set task.Naruto has a rivalry with SasukeHis dream is to surpass all who come before him and to become the leader of his village.Sasuke is smart and strong. He is detirmined to kill a 'mystery' ninja and avenge himself. Normally calm and collected,he appears stronger than Naruto at times.Sakura has a large crush on Sasuke, who,in return, ignores her.Naruto has a crush on her.She is extremely smart, although she doesn't really fight.Even though she is the weakest of the three, she is a likeable character.

All in all, this is a great manga, with great action. My friend says that he has trouble understanding the fight scenes,so I guess that should be a warning to most. For those of you who purchase and end up liking this manga, the anime is coming to Cartoon Network in September.

Naruto is a ninja in training with seemingly poor prospects. He's the ostracized class clown who has a secret desire to exceed and more dangerous potential than he realizes...

The misadventures of Naruto and his comrades has become one of the most popular manga series of all time. I've heard that it's somewhat uneven, with certain excellent arcs and others not as strong. I haven't been all that interested in checking it out, but gave the first volume a look as part of a recent reading challenge.

I did enjoy it a bit more than I expected. There's some nice depth to Naruto as a character even in this first volume, and some of the groundwork for the overarching plot is very interesting. But the humor is plentiful, and not really to my tastes. The supporting cast is already getting on my nerves.

I know one volume isn't much to go on, but while I did like this more than not overall I likely won't continue with the series. There's just a lot of stuff I'd rather be reading. If you are more into madcap adventure stuff (or obsessed with ninjas) you will probably care for this this more than I do.

Naruto is about Naruto, Naruto is a fox demon, Naruto is hated by everyone even though it's not his fault he's a demon. Insert Iruka. Iruka looks like a dolphin (lol, irrelivent), he is the first person to ever acknowledge naruto... Enter Sakura, the apple of Naruto's eye... Sakura hates Naruto. Enter Sasuke, the apple of Sakura's eye... Sasuke hates everyone. Enter Kakashi, the most popular character. He's a perv, just because there isn't an anime without one. With Naruto breaking rules, Mizuki breaking Taboo, and Sakura breaking Naruto's heart, I'm pretty sure there isn't a person who can say this anime doesn't rock, because it does, and you know it.
Something I have noticed: The art. Chins aren't pointy, noses aren't pointy, some of the hair makes sense (note i said some... Kakashi's hair is gravity defying) and everything has a realistic way, yet is still anime.
Some bad things about this Naruto Manga: Some of the translations. Why translate Kage Bushin no Jutsu when Kamehameha was never translated? I mean, its not like people would dislike it being translated when back wehn DBZ was the greatest thing, people screamed Kamehameha. No body would scream 'Turtle Wave Blast' if they translated that move. They also translated sama, sensei, san, kun, etc. That makes no sense either...
Anyways, the manga is great, I reconmend it to any otaku. However, I reconmend the anime more... which unfortunatly hasn't been released in english as of today.

the art is fantastic with a story to match! Naruto is a 12 year old orphan who never quite fit in, then afte failing a test he's told about scrolls that are highly dangerous, the teacher who tells naruto that they'd improove his abillity and impress his other teachers. But the teacher that tells naruto this and the scrolls location turns around a tell the towns peoples that naruto is off to STEAL the scrolls for his own evil! unknown to naruto he himself a the Fox demon that attacked the town then retreated to a form a child, named NARUTO! now with the dream of becoming the leader of ninja, naruto must work with his teammates to make there way through diffacult challenges!

Naruto is one of my all time favorite mangas. Even though it is technically shonen, Naruto appeals to both girls and boys. First off, the characters are all extremely likeable and humorous. Each character is delicately layered, and you'll find that even the seemingly carefree Naruto had a painful past. The art is good and there is plenty of action to keep the reader intrigued. The anime is good too.... Anyway, this is definately worth the money, and I say, buy it.

Wow! Naruto is here in the U.S!! I would recommend Naruto to everyone!
At first i didn't take naruto very serious, hearing thats it's a shounen anime/manga (meaning it mainly captures male viewers/readers), but once i gave it a chance, i fell in love!
Naruto is truly a great series, one of the best in fact. Both the anime and Manga are simply too great! The anime follows the manga so much, your actually reading the manga as u watch the anime. Although the manga is way ahead of the anime, i still watch it. I can watch and read naruto so many times and it will never bore me.
I'm usually the type of person who likes to read mangas that have good plots. Not some long running plot that won't go anywhere for the longest time. Naruto; however, is long but the story keeps getting better. Thats the glory of it! :D
So what are you waiting for?! go buy/watch/read Naruto! Do anything as long as u get naruto in ur system!
oh by the way, i agree with nathan, if Masashi kishimoto approved the translation, it's ok with me! i actually think it's not that bad. :)

Being obsessed with anime and manga for quite a while, I have been on constant search for the new and amazing of both. Recently, I found Shonen Jump (well, more like waited for it to come out...), and I fell in love. Unfortunately, I cannot read Japanese *yet* so I cannot get the weekly Jump. Anyway, Shonen Jump contains several different manga. One of which is obviously Naruto (it was them who released this book after all).
Naruto, is a story about a 12 year old outcast who is determined to become his villiage's greatest ninja, the Hokage. Naruto soon fins himself with a team of two other ninjas in training (Sasuke and Sakura), and their sensei, Kakashi. You'll have to read it for the good stuff.
Now this manga is the best I have ever read (this and One Piece), so if you don't get it, you WILL miss out. Don't listen to the reviewer who claims the translations are bad, he just doesn't know how to utilize a dictionary. Get this manga, or read it in the store (or in Shonen Jump). Either way, you will not be dissapointed. (Check out the anime too when it comes out!
PS: doppelganger, according to dictionary.com, is "a spiritual or ghostly double or counterpart".

Naruto is great fun to read. It is about a boy, Naruto, who dreams of being Hokage, the top ninja in his village. But he has a dark secret, sealed inside of him is the nine-tailed demon fox, Kyuubi. The first volume deals with Naruto and becoming a Genin, a low level ninja.

As Naruto continues it developes a strong plot and has some really interesting storylines. It keeps getting better as it goes. Anyone who wants a fun read with action, the occasional romance (the one-sided schoolgirl crush kind of romance), and heart should read Naruto.

This book is way better than the anime in many ways. First it has more length and description of what is going on. The art work is better than the anime in my opinion. If you love the anime or any anime then you will like this book. And it all starts from the beginning. From the Start you will have few to no questions about naruto or anyone else in the manga. I say that once you get into it you will love it!

"Naruto," while not an all-time favorite, is a great, funny manga series that everyone should give a read. It is a wacky Ninja tale, complete with magic nine-tailed foxes and secret ninja techniques. Anyone looking for even a grain of historical accuracy should look elsewhere, as "Naruto" is just about the hijinks. Definitely nothing subtle here, just "pie-in-the-face" style of humor and laughs.
This first volume, "The Tests of the Ninja," lays the groundwork, including Naruto's origin and the cast of supporting characters. While stereotypes abound, each is interesting enough and offers some unique drama.
The art is nice, although not groundbreaking, and suits the funky story. Viz's decision to run the book in the correct way, right to left, is really appreciated as the artwork can be original an un-flipped as it is in most English-translated manga series.
One note: as someone who has read both the Japanese version and the English, the translation is excellent. No worries there.

I've seen a lot of the anime, and have seen a lot of the manga. While the two do differ, I don't know what fool said they were identical :(, but it's nothing that hurts the story. For example, Kakashi's test is different in the manga than in the anime.
I will be honest with you, this is one of my favorite series. It may never come to the USA, but despite that it's still very popular here. It's an intelligent, funny, action filled series! In Japan it has a huge fan base- clothing lines, and a lot of video games. The story... a long time ago a fox demon was ravaging the town. A hero comes and seals the soul in infants body. Well, that boy grows up, and he is ninja trainee Naruto. I won't spoil anything else, except expect bad ass ninja killing scenes and the like. :) Buy it! If it gets popular enough maybe someone will liscence it!

Aficionados of pop culture can't make it through the course of a day without hearing/seeing reference to 'Naruto.' After putting off this series for years I finally decided to give this one a shot and blazed through Volume #1 of Masashi Kishimoto's seminal 'Naruto' manga series.

First impressions left me semi-interested. The story and concept is intriguing enough to keep me going at least a few more volumes to gauge whether or not I'm going to plow this series in its entirety. As fas as art goes my main complaint is that the action sequences (long fight chapters) can be difficult to follow at times. Also, based on this 1 book the overall tone feels seems to skew toward a younger audience so keep that in mind if you're wondering whether or not to take a chance with this series.

Naruto is an elegantly drawn graphic novel. It's dynamic panels and intriguing story line keep you reading. The classic appeal of a cheerful boy trying to become a hero will warm your heart.
The great detail, in both story line and art, gives a certain depth that other certain graphic novels lack. Naruto is a great read and it never slows down. Tragic sub stories litter it's pages and gives the novel a unique twist.
And with all the tragedy the artist still manages to throw in humor. The comedic aspect is neither lacking nor in surplus. This unique mixture of comedy and tragic depth gives this novel, at least, a head above any other novel.

12 years ago, Konohagakure, a village famous for its inhabitants, who just happen to be the greatest ninja in the world, was attacked by a nine-tailed fox demon. A village hero named Hokage was able to arise, and imprisoned the demon's soul, but lost his life in the effort. All of the young students in training at the Ninja Academy see Hokage as a model to which they aspire. One of these students is Naruto, whose disregard for the past extends to defacing monuments of the village heroes because he feels he is more powerful. His greatest ability is the "ninja centerfold technique" in which he can make an illusion of a naked woman dressed in mist to distract his opponents. He causes a lot of messes because he wants attention. He has no home or parents, and the entire village dislikes him. Only his tutor Iruka, who tries to control his excesses, shows some caring for Naruto. Maybe Naruto isn't just full of himself. Perhaps he does hold a power greater than that of Hokage.

I have to admit, I am usually leery of anything with the words Shonen Jump on it. I decided to give Naruto a go anyway. The art was great, but it just all seemed a tad too kid oriented for me. It's mostly about people yelling and hitting each other and the characters are about as shallow as a one inch deep pond. There's really nothing here. I would recommend this manga to 12 year olds and below.

Naruto is one of the coolest mangas I've read, and plan to read more. It has great art, and a great story. It may seem kinda cheesy in the beginning, but give it a chance, because it gets TONS better, and more exciting further into the series.

And the best part is that the anime is coming to the US, I just hope they do a decent job on the dub.

Viz had to get their translations approved by Masashi Kishimoto, so I don't see what the problem is. Kage bushin no jutsu is 4 japanese WORDS. That's why they changed it. I'd rather them call it Shadow clone technique/art instead of art of the doppleganger myself, but the name change doesen't affect my enjoyment at all. If you're too wrapped up in names to enjoy the manga, then you need help. =/
Sharingan and Kamehameha(since you mentioned dbz) are words created specifically for attacks (however, in kamehameha's case, it was taken from a hawaiian king, heh).
Stupid n00b anime/manga fans are ruining things for everyone with their complaining. If you're too cheap to buy an 8 dollar manga novel, then that's fine, but don't try to get other people to do the same unless you have a vaild/worthwhile point.
By the way, this volume of naruto rocks. Don't miss it!

And I'm telling you, it's worth every penny! The fansubs are still out there, and I'm up-to-date with episode 90, and I've read the first and second Mangas. This series is an amazing feat of work and creativity!
Naruto, a boy with the spirit of a Kitsune inside him, struggles to become the greatest Ninja ever! Action-packed, humorous, you'll laugh... you'll cry...you'll be very glad you bought this!

I've been looking for a good manga, so I got Naruto. However, a minute after getting into the book, I got bored. It is so plain and lame, nowhere as good as Dragon Ball. The theme is boring, the plot is boring… You get the picture. Don't waste your money on this. Buy Dragon Ball instead ( a good manga).

Naruto is the story of Uzumaki Naruto, an aspiring junior ninja. On the day of his birth, an evil spirit that was terrorizing the village was defeated, but in it's escape, the sleeping spirit was sealed inside Naruto. Because of this, no-one in the village trusts him. Naruto grows up to be a headstrong, overconfident young man with a big goal... to finally earn the trust and respect of the townspeople by becoming Hokage, the leader of the Ninja. But Naruto has a long way to go before then!

Naruto is great! I wanted an anime book ever since I saw the first episode on Cartoon Network. I mainly connect with Naruto a.k.a the Nine-Tailed Fox because I don't have that many friends and I want to do my best at everything!

Any manga fan would love this- Masasashi Kishimoto is a great artist and his story line is great - First off, who can say ninja aren't cool? (only losers). Add in an ambitious boy with so many of the obstacles we regular people have (Oh, and he has the kyubi (nine tailed demon fox) spirit sealed in him, as well). Then toss in the quiet, goth boy and the girl who has soooo much room to grow, slap in a perverted and funny sensei and WHAM! Instantly addictive manga. All I can tell you is that once you start reading, you'll completely fall in love.

Ah Naruto. We go back a long time, don't we? I remember watching you on Cartoon Network, an avid fan although I barely understood what was going on. But I knew this; you were different. Disney was changing, churning up absolute rubbish. Even at that age I knew their shows were shit. But you were different. You were fresh, you were exciting, you were something I could enjoy. Something that made me laugh and cry. You were awesome. And I was absolutely gutted when all of a sudden the shows stopped airing on Cartoon Network. No matter where I looked I couldn't find the shows.

Devastated I was.

So I nearly cried out in joy once I saw you, in manga form, sitting on a shelf in my local library. But I guess my hopes were too high. For some reason beyond my knowledge... I just didn't like you. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't do it. Your action drawings were of poor quality (in my opinion), and confusing. Your characters weren't as interesting in the manga as it was in the show. They were annoying, and one-dimensional. I didn't have a emotionally connection to them at all. You just weren't as interesting. As well as that, the number of books... sweet lord. No. Just... no. There's no way anyone would pay copy after copy. No. Right? That's just crazy. I mean, there are over 40 books in the series. Nearly 50.

I'm sorry but there is no way you could stretch the series to that length without dropping quality. And since I didn't like you, I've come to the conclusion that I will not be continuing this series in the knowledge that you only become worse. I think I should end it quickly.

I think we should part ways, my good friend.

(Now I sound like I'm breaking-up with a book. Oh how sad am I...)

But, there is a happy ending to this story. I found a site where I can watch all the shows. All in either English dub or English subtitles. So... yay! Everyone is happy! I think. Well, I am, anyway. Now excuse me while I try to re-live my childhood.

Well I loved this manga! it was funny and plenty of action when they meet Kakashi! Mostly this one is to introduce the characters and why they are and what they act like! No basic acton only with Mizuki and Kakashi! But I can't wait to pick up the next one! I kinda recommend this one to those who love mangas and ninja action!

Teacher at school sent it to the principal because of some of the risque pictures in it (not totally nude but enough younger children are questionable to exposure.) I didn't know much about it before I ordered it for my 10 yr old daughter at her request.

This is the second manga I bought. I love naruto so I bought it even though I've downloaded all the fan translations already. I was dissappointed with this translation. ... And they should've left sensei in there. They keep the authenticity by printing it right to left and starting from the "back" instead so why not keep the names of the techniques? ...

I am 12 years olds and I am a actually a boy. This is a great manga. The characters are great. The storyline is also good. This book is rated 13+ but I think 11+ can read this manga. If you like this manga, I recommend the One Piece and Bleach manga, they're also cool manga to try out.

... Instead for some reason, Viz falls face forward in what happens to be one of the worst translations ever. ...
In trying to "American-ize" the manga, they have decided (and this is just one example) Naruto's main move "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu" (SHADOW CLONE SKILL) and changed it to "Art of the Doppleganger"....Is this translation A JOKE?! DOPPLEGANGER...Is that even a word?!
I don't even know if this is trying to make this more appealing to American people. ... The volume itself was held back to fix simple grammical errors, and they still have a bunch in the book.
For those who wish to read the true Naruto manga find it online. I'm giving this three stars due to the fact I love the Naruto manga and the anime.
At least One Piece is okay.

Well, what ot say about Naruto. Fairly origonal idea, nice art,NO STORY. First of all, the first 3 and 1/2 issues were REALLY GOOD. so if you want buy the first four and read halfway through four. I own through issue 7, and now it's becoming the next dragonball Z.

The first four issues were very well done, (and violent. heh heh ;3) but after that the story kinda fell apart. what I used to love is now gone. The battles were epic, and well thought out. the surprises just kept on coming, and the enemies were really fun to hate. But all that's gone now.

The story as of issue 5 is now the ninja are going the the "Ninja exams." Nothing is nearly as epic, you can't evan TELL who the enimies are, and the story doesn't seem to be going anywhere. And if it is, it shouldn.t take 100 chapters to do so. And when I say you can't tell who the enimies are, I don't mean that in the good way where there isn't a clear line between good and evil, there's just an absence of evil. It's just a bunch of mindless fights for these exams. there seems to be some wandering enemy named "Orochimaru" but he never does anything except at one point he bites one of the main characters, which gives him a painful rash then he gets over it the next issue (of course.)

So in conclusion, if you are looking for a good long-running series, I would not buy Naruto, but Bleach, the most underrrated series ever. It has much more likable characters, and a story (always important.)

I've read the home translated comics and they are far better than these ones. The books are great but i really wished they had have used the same names for the techniques that they did in the japanese ones.

First off, whoever said that the anime was better, is simply an idiot. The manga far outstripes the anime in every category.
Second of all, the attack should be called Kage Bunshin no Jutsu because that's what the author named it. Viz left original attack names in for Dragonball Z, so why not Naruto.
I say, don't waste you're money, download fanscans.
