While reading through the latest in Stephen England's Shadow Warriors series, I was struck by a feeling of familiarity that I struggled to pin down. Eventually, it hit me; Harry Nichols' latest adventure hit me in the same way that Brad Thor's first few Scot Harvath tales had, and I found myself grinning at the comparison. Lest you misunderstand, there's no aping present; rather, England's voice as a writer, his pacing, and his command of both action and character development are of a similar tenor to Thor's and the experience for the reader is appropriately strong as a result. This is a polished work, featuring a lead character who - while similar in skill and "body of work" to Harvath - is unique in the thriller world. He's a well-rounded character, rather than a caricature (no small feat in this genre), and his essential prickliness allows for a depth of development that wouldn't be possible in a less complex hero.

The story itself is a potboiler of the highest order. Enemies within the government, terrorists motivated by both ideological and personal passions, and a series of deep conflicts within Nichols himself ensure tension, and England does a fantastic job of transitioning from the DC Metro area, to the mountains of West Virginia, and ultimately, a showdown in Vegas. If I'm light on narrative specifics, it's only because I'd hate to give too much away before you get a chance to read it.

In summary, this is a very solid read from a rising young author with a very high ceiling, indeed, based on his first few entries. The depth of character development, and skill England displays in balancing action, a frenetic pace, and myriad intertwined plot twists recommend this book quite highly, as do I.

(Kindle Unlimited.) This well-written and edited tale of the desire to wield and hold power is a thrilling, suspenseful read. The author interweaves several different terrorist elements into a believable scenario, but hopefully never one to occur.

First, my apologies to Mr. England for not getting this review written before now.

Stephen England has created yet another absolute winner! Readers who liked and enjoyed Pandora's Grave will love Day of Reckoning. CIA paramilitary operative Harry Nichols returns with a mission filled with action, suspense and intrigue in a tale with seemingly multiple story lines which all coalesce to form a brilliant finale. This book is truly heart pounding and action packed.

For fans of "thrillers", Mr. England fills the void created by the loss of such magnificent novelists such as Robert Ludlum, Vince Flynn and Tom Clancey and is indeed an excellent and very talented writer. I will look forward to the next thriller in this series with anticipation!
Protect and Defend :: A Thriller (The Scot Harvath Series Book 18) :: Pandora's Grave (Shadow Warriors Book 2) :: Executive Power (A Mitch Rapp Novel) :: Unallocated Space: A Thriller (Sam Flatt Book 1)

This was my first experience with Stephen England's novels and this plot line. I was concerned that my lack of background knowledge about the characters would make reading this book difficult but my worries were baseless. The characters in 'Day of Reckoning' were well-developed and multi-faceted and that depth was brought about in a way that was not tedious. The research that went into both the characters and the plot line are evident and the story is suspenseful, dynamic, and thrilling.

Rarely do I get surprised by an ending but this one caught me completely off guard. As much as I dislike surprises, I have to applaud an author who can pull that off and England did just that. He sucked me in to the lives of Harry Nichols and the CIA Director's daughter, Carol, and the web of intrigue in which they were caught up and I couldn't put the book down. The layers of suspense and deception are woven together so well that you truly don't know what to expect next.

'Day of Reckoning' was a thrilling read that left me wanting more when I finished. I would encourage those of you that have read his previous novel, 'Pandora's Grave', to enjoy 'Day of Reckoning' as soon as possible. I can't wait to read his next one!

“Day of Reckoning” is a dark, enthralling tale of high concept action and suspense! Stephen England masterfully jumbles multiple engaging plotlines, while brilliantly reflecting on the harsh reality of our times!

It doesn’t get much better than this one!

A must read in the truest sense of the word!

Nothing gets me going better than an excellent spy novel, and "Day of Reckoning" does not disappoint. The forces of evil are allied against Harry Nichols and the U.S.A., even to the highest levels. And this time it's personal.

This page-turner kept me engaged from the opening paragraphs, and it's apparent that Mr. England has done his homework. Outstanding for such a young author...

As the sequel to "Pandora's Grave," a phenomenal thriller in its own right, this novel proves every bit as exciting. I just couldn't put it down.

Congratulations, Mr. England, on another great read! Looking forward to the next installment of Harry Nichols.

From page 1 the action never stops & the characters are very well developed. I found it hard to put down and am anxiously waiting for Mr England's next novel. He is becoming my new favorite author in this genre. Would highly recommend it to any Vince Flynn or Brad Thor fans.

Reading "Day of Reckoning" is like watching an awesome show on t.v.. If such is possible. Mr. England's writing style is beyond his contemporizes by a long shot. The images flow in such an orderly sequence, that it really made me 'having to serve' in jury duty selection a joy. Keep an eye out for this guy! I know that I will. He even sent a copy of an earlier book to my son for free. That went all the way to the war in Afghanistan! Ha, talent, & a heart for America, yeah... Keep an eye out for Stephen England, or you'll miss out.

I've been following Stephen England for a while now, and each book gets better and better. Day of Reckoning is indeed a page-turner, so settle in for a great read! With well-defined characters and a twisting plot, Stephen tells a frightening tale of Jihad, patriotism and treachery with gritty realism. Loved the characters and the action, and he really pulled me into the story. I would recommend it for anyone who loves to read espionage or military action thrillers.

To any and all who are even considering reading Day of Reckoning... Don't even hesitate, this book truly takes you on a journey of epic thoughts. Haven't read a fictional book in a very long time that made me say "Imagine if this really happens". It will leave you wondering; could a plot such as this take place. Forget prime time news this book is as close to being reality as it gets. Thank Stephan England for an amazing READ !!!

Day of Reckoning is an action packed thriller filled with political intrigue! Written with insight and a deep understanding of Washington insider politics, this book was extremely well thought out and constructed. Great characters and great action, this book has it all! I really enjoyed it, and can't wait to read Pandora's Grave.

Giving this book five stars although I would have given 4-1/2 stars if possible. I would have knocked off 1/2 star for the number of grammatical errors which were almost as non-stop as the action. I read where the author is self-published. Stephen, please have future books proof-read to avoid this problem.

I tried to like this book. Really. But it becomes so disjointed jumping here and there that eventually, reading it further became a chore. I finally did finish it and had a "whew, glad that's over" moment.

What's the point? Evil always triumphs and good is punished? Why build up the whole relationship with Carol all the way through the book only to kill her off as an after thought? The point of the book seems to be that evil always wins and there is no point in trying to do the right thing. What a great message. There's enough despair in the world without reading this trash. I'm done with the series.

Stephen England's second novel "DAY OF RECKONING" was full of suspense. It kept me reading on the edge of the chair. Accurate to localities. I felt as if I was traveling in the areas of Virginia, where parts of the story took place. The only question I have is when will the next book in series come out ?

Recommendation #1 is to read Pandora's Grave a couple of times. If you have not read this book or only read it once, this is a good place to start. Maybe it is just me, but reading it more that once gave me a better understanding. Things become apparent that were not apparent the 1st time. Is reading Pandora's Grave necessary to enjoy Day Of Reckoning? No, but there is some background information there that helps you understand parts of DOR and the emotions of the characters.
Recommendation #2 is to read Day Of Reckoning and then read it again. There is only so much you can put on a book jacket to get a reader interested in a book. Thriller novels need to have interwoven plot lines that need to be followed and DOR certainly has that. Excellent!
Recommendation #3 is to review the book on the store. I never used to do that, but your review might help a reader decide to try an author they had not read before.
Recommendation #4 is, if you really liked the book, let the author know personally, by sending him an email. Authors really do appreciate readers taking the time to let them know they enjoy the author's writing.
