I think this book has the most information on how to earn money from stocks, combining both fundamental and technical analysis. Although i am from the other side of the world and do not know IBD, this book has helped me identify the right buy points and just recently learning when to sell both to profit and/ or to prevent additional loss.

A straight forward, practical approach to learning the art of stock investing and trading. I consider this my primary source book. Mr. O'Neil is just as interested in teaching you how to protect your investment dollars as he is in showing you how to be a smart trader. This is a masterful step-by-step approach to the subject.

The book's philosophy and wisdom is just as applicable today as it was 27 years ago. Bill O'Neil is considered one of the greatest traders of all time and this book does a wonderful job of making trading/investing distilled down to a few key topics. This is one book I could read over and over throughout the years and learn something new every time. Highly recommended, of course.

Great book, very helpful hints and things that no one else either knows or will tell you. Highly recommend! My family swears by this book and they know people who are millionaires who still use it today.

I was playing around with stocks in a game called Stockfuse and after a few days I was doing well in the game. Doing well was not enough for me so I decided to read this book to gain more knowledge on the stock market. I expected the author in the book to be really broad and encouraging and in the first couple of chapter I realized that, throughout the book that was not going to be the case. The author in the book is really straight forward and clearly only tries to get the reality of the stock market across. As we all know, in several occasions the reality is not pretty. Although I did not have any personal connections to the book a noticeable ethos based development of ideas, what that means is that for everything the author stated he would support it either with an example of that has already happened or a research of some type. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the stock market, however, I would also recommend to everyone that is willing to read this book, to read it with an intention of learning. This is not a book that will tell you how to beat the market, because to be completely honest, if that's what you are looking for, be prepared to be disappointed because a book that will give you this type of information simple does not exist. This is a book for those looking to improve their skills as investors. A good follow up on this book would be the book Intelligent Investor By Benjamin Graham on value investing.

I started as investor 10 years ago then realized what is wrong after huge loss. Did MBA in 3rd-tier schoool. felt i can beat the market with value investing, no luck other than losing money. then in 2007 a person introduced me IBD. i got confused as the concepts contradicted my principles. took almost a year for me to understand what WON says. may be i read the 20 times to understand the concepts. man, he is the best and my only investing book i read like a bible every day. i have read all his books, jessie livermore..and all WON's favorite books. first you need to believe in what he says. ok, did i make money after learning. a big yes ;. stayed in cash all along 2008 and until 3/15/09. when i read his latest edition, the first 100 pages are awesome. human pschology remains same in 100 year or 1000 years. he is my only investment guru. we are all mainstream investor better to stick with what he says...more to come.

Some useful information such as looking for Quarterly and Annual earnings growth of 25% along with high ROE, increased cash from operations, etc. But the excessive use of charts, which I don't believe in, made me lose interest. How can a chart predict a stock if they have lost grasp of their market e.g. Blackberry.

For anyone interested in doing their own investing in stocks, this is THE book to read to manage your own stock portfolio. It is a rules based system studied over 100 years and if followed can make you $ in good or bad stock markets. It leaves out emotions from the buy and sale of stocks. Highly recommended read!

Read this one more time. Very little technical analysis. Mostly pictures of long term stock charts. Nothing on modern charting. Analysis of markets is outdated. With the advent of high frequency trading the game has changed immensely. Basically he teaches buy and hold stocks that are expensive. Mostly fundamental trading. He’s hip on cup and handle patterns that no one really ever uses anymore. I wanted to read about actual mathematical equations, what I got was an old dude talking about markets from long ago. They tried updating the info but the approach doesn’t work. I learned more from TD Ameritrade education videos than this book. I’m not sure why it’s a bestseller.

This is the CANSLIM investing system by O'neil owner of investors.com or Investors Business Daily (IBD). I subscribe to IBD and the CANSLIM trading system and find these books compliment their home study courses. The only reason I am giving this 4stars is that because it comes of as an advertisement for the CANSLIM system and you have to subscribe to investors.com and some of their extra products to take full advantage of the system.

With something as complicated the stock market, O'Neil finds a way to explain his stock theories in an approachable and down-to-earth sort of way that really resonated with me. After a quick read, I've been able to immediately (and successfully) put some of the concepts in the book to use in the stock market. I'm not a seasoned investor, so some of his detailed points about identifying stock patterns are a bit over my head and seem to get a little lofty, but the more common sense stuff I think makes up the meat of the book, and is worth the price for gaining a general grasp of how to market moves and how to protect your investment.

Other reviewers have commented, and I'll agree that it can be a little preachy. Throughout the book (particularly the second half), O'Neil will periodically try to ram an IBD subscription down your throat, but I can't knock the book down too far for that when it really has some worthwhile content.

Beginning and Intermediate Investors: A+
