This is a very interesting mystery regarding a stolen necklace. The way Dorothy Sayers weaved in the bell peals into the story line was wonderful. I really enjoyed the information on the ringing of bell peals.

I love the Lord Peter Wimsey books, and consider this one the best. The bells! the dinging, donging, binging, bonging bells --each with its own personality and history! I learned a lot, but there's much more to be learned.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. As an American reader I love Dorothy Sayers description of place and her books never fail to transport me to new and memorable locales. Lord Peter is entertaining, as ever, and the details of the bells and the art of ringing was fascinating. Loved it!

Perhaps we could convince the guys at "Mythbusters" to look into this. Personally, I've got my doubts. I've been finding that most of these old "classic" mystery novels don't stand up to the ravages of time. At least not for me.

This mystery had all the elements of a good mystery: well developed plot, interesting suspects and even a red herring or two. The details of scenery and the ringing bells seem over done until you pull all the pieces together for the conclusion .

I found the information about the bell-ringing to be too detailed and slowed down the narrative. I skimmed those parts because, at times, it was incomprehensible. I admire the extent of the knowledge Sayers exhibited, but after finishing the book I found I liked it least of all her books.

One of the most beautifully crafted detective stories ever written with wonderful, consistent characters, and intricate plot, with all loose ends tucked in. The bells are almost as much characters as the humans. Very satisfying, and well worth re-reading--not just an intellectual puzzle, but a wonderful story.

After Doyle came Sayers. Her Lord Peter Wimsey series are the best of the style. Much more fun than Doyle but just as good a read. The nine tailors is her best. That means it is also up there with anything written since.

Book condition was as stated in the discription. To read many older novels, one often has to buy older paperback copies. The public libraries do not replace copies of authors such as D.Sayers. I am not certain if they are even available. The vendor did not send a shipping notice, but the book arrived within a week. No harm - no foul.

Dorothy Sayers' work is an acquired taste, and Lord Peter may be difficult for an American reader to take. He is a bit over the top. But this novel reveals a look at the English fens and the art of bell ringing--something I did not appreciate at all the first time I read this book over 20 years ago. It is not precisely a "cozy" cozy, but it is worth the read.

I have always loved this Sayers book. The descriptions of the village life, and the bell ringing are so vivid and colorful that the mystery is secondary to me. However it is a unique and surprising plot, extremely well told. Hearing the book adds another layer of delight.

Informative, suspenseful, language for any age, solution well hidden until end. The history of "change-ringing" is well introduced, along with the history of the area. Local library 'Mystery Bookclub' is using this volume for April 2013.

It is an interesting story, but hard to follow due to all the English references and things that are unfamiliar and dated. Also took a long time for the story to unfold. I'm glad for a chance to read one of her books because she is well-known, but I doubt I'll read another one.

Loved this story! A great tale that incorporates history, culture and more of Sayers' intriguing characters. Another fun adventure with Lord Peter Wimsey and another fabulous mystery with loads of suspense and a wild trail of clues. A great read!
