Pretty good book with practical & useful information if you're getting ready to try to conceive. A lot of it is common sense and well known facts, but it's handy to have it all in one place and a good basic guide to getting pregnant.

I bought this book with What to Expect when Expecting and I started reading What to Expect When Expecting first since this book had so much hype. To be fair,I didn't really like ".. When Expecting" when reading it due to its immature, girlfriend style language. I wanted to be informed with practical information but I gave this book a try thinking it would give me a little more insight on getting my body ready for pregnancy. I was wrong, this book is almost the exact same at "What to Expect When Expecting" most of the book is the same material I already read in "What to Expect When Expecting." Don't waste you money!

This book does contain some very useful information. But I was highly disappointed with it. The writing was condescending and childish and completely off putting. It is also filled with scare tactics and propaganda that I am finding out are synonymous with the "What to Expect..." series. All in all I could not finish reading the book. I have since purchased the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy which is a very superior book written by actual doctors and medical professionals.

Too much cutesy language and not enough scientific references for the bold statements she makes. I couldn't even get more than halfway through the book. The advice she gives is so general, it's not useful at all.

I'll never understand why this book is the "pregnancy bible". It's full of information, sure, but even the new version has antiquated advice, militant and unnecessarily restrictive rules, and alarmist tones. Don't even walk too close to a plate of sushi, and make sure you're watching what you eat because god forbid you not be able to lose the baby weight as soon as you're no longer pregnant! Okay, so I'm exaggerating a little bit, but unfortunately it's not that far off.

If you don't think growing a human is hard enough work, buy What To Expect and terrify yourself by learning all about what you're doing wrong and how things can go horribly. This book should be renamed "What To Expect When You're Expecting: What Can Go Wrong and How It's All Your Fault". I closed it after I read through the first trimester and went on the advice of my midwives and OB.

Ms Murkoff's writing is preachy, condescending, and trying too hard to be comedic. It is cringeworthy the way she forces a "joke" into every paragraph. I would advise any expectant mother to go elsewhere for pregnancy advice; someone who actually has medical expertise is probably a good start.

The content was accurate but it reads more like a "fertility 101" than anything... it's probably a good book for people just starting out but having been trying for about 2 years, the content in this book is old news.

Lots of good info all compiled together in one book! We later found out we are unable to conceive so we have passed this book on, but I really liked having all that helpful information at my fingertips.

I love love love love absolutely love this book. I enjoyed reading it and learning more stuff about getting pregnant difficulties/dos/don't/etc... though I don't want to have kids yet but it made my vision so clear for the future.

Lots of great information, especially for soon-to-be first time expecting moms. Her style is sort of sarcastic and corny at times so I tend to not read her side notes to avoid that and just get the important info.
