This may be the slowest "thriller" ever written. There is not one surprise! It's a soap opera burdened with "Columbo" characters. It reads you to sleep in mid afternoon!

If you like his "Prey" novels....stop there.

Every character is a cliche. Writing a political thriller is tricky business--like never let the reader get ahead of the lead character. This never happens here. One can see the next "turn" in every chapter. It's telegraphed.

I suggest a Lee Child, Charles McCaarey, Martin Cruz Smith, LeCarre--just to name a few who know how to swim in these waters.

Stick to serial killers.

not your typical prey book but better - maybe becasue i live in Virginia but still good book because Sanford sticks to one story and only enough charaters to keep from getting lost dealing with who is who.

Book was not what I expected from the author. Had a hard time staying with the story line. The flow of the book did not keep my interest. Actually it was a little slow and cumbersome at times. Hopefully the next one will have some guts and pizazz to it.

Classic Sandford humor, the conversational exchanges that just leave readers in awe.... And a plot that is complex enough and original enough that it's interesting and not repetitive or predictable. The politicking feels like Washington, and there are so many good moments. Just lovely. I wish that more stories about Jake Winter would come. Either prequels or sequels, Mr Sandford, whatever you feel inspired to write!

Enjoyed the back and forth between the main characters and always like it when the jerks get some of what they deserve. But really wouldn't it be great if we had a decent political system? Oh well, at least in books sometimes some of the bad guys get kicked out

It was written by John Sandford. That should just about say it all: it will be entertaining from the first page; you will not be able to say you know what is coming next; you will enjoy the entire book and will be sad when it ends.
