This book keeps up the momentum from the first, while also letting us learn more about Anita. Who she is, what her values are, what that means, etc. We also see the dark side of her job as an animator. It really helps set a solid stage for future character development on her part. It's a good second chapter to this incredible series.

Good read: fast-paced, thrilling, full of magic.
The only problem is Anita's way of using magic. Ritually sacrificing animals is death magic, though she claims to be a Christian... She wants to give rights to the dead, but what about the living? Does making corpses walk, or explain testaments worth lives?
If you prefer white magic, there's Rachel Morgan or Harry Dresden...
But there's no vampire as beautiful and charismatic as Jean-Claude...

This book was really boring. I LOVED the first one so I went out and bought The Laughing Corpse...to my dismay it took me 3 times as long to read because it sucked that much. I almost stopped reading the series but a friend of mine said that the first few are kind of slow and then it picks up and you can't stop reading them. So after The Laughing Corpse I gave Circus of the Dammed a try and thank GOODNESS because that book rocked! So, if your feeling this book is a little slow, don't worry because the next ones a blast!!
Danse Macabre (Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter :: DILF Diaries: Oh Baby :: The Charmer (A Hot Romantic Comedy) (Harbor City) :: The Chase (Briar U Book 1) :: Micah (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 13)

At the suggestion of a friend, I recently started the Anita Blake series. It was a little difficult getting into the 1st book, but once I did...I was hooked! If you love reading science fiction, fantasy, mystery...I'm sure I'm forgetting some genres...adult themed novels, you will love the series.

Yeah she is a master storyteller. LOve the conflicts she sets up in the main character...little but tough...hates monsters but loves a vamp and a werewolf...pretty but mean...has a friend that may kill her...or she may kill him... conflict conflict conflict

Laurell K Hamilton continues to be one of my favorite authors, and it is always a joy to read her books. Her characters are complex, and thoughtful. I would recommend either of her series for people to read.

I loved this series. I would call it Twilight for adults. There is mystery tied in and never a dull moment. Her books never drag on. I have a long commute to work and travel often, these audio books keep me entertained and turn a bumper to bumper long congested ride home into something I look forward to.
