I feel the representation of autism was poorly done. She came across as someone who was experiencing trauma rather than autism. She was unnecessary brash and very passive aggressive. Due to her previous abusive relationship with her ex not necessarily due to autism in my opinion. Also, he was an enabler, a nice guy but an enabler I wish he gave her space and let her come to him and talking things through instead of smothering at times. I did not like her personality at all she was just rude and repressed. However, it was a good book, and I look forward to Hannah’s story, and I can’t wait to find out who Ray is. Overall this was not a nuanced or intuitive representation of what an autistic person on the spectrum is this character has more anxiety and trauma issue to me anyway.

Every one deserves love, there is something lovable about each of us. Evan walks into a situation where a whole town is disrespectful and gossips incessantly about his reclusive neighbor. He is repeatedly warned away by his boss, yet Evan is drawn to Ruth. Early on he recognised Ruth's reluctance to be touched, her abrupt if not seemingly random comments and found himself drawn to her unlike any woman before. He saw hints of her warmth and genuinely liked her and found her prickly bits adorable. Ruth found that Evan was cute, sexy, and not superficial a man willing to be whatever she needed. The storyline took some surprising twists and reminds the reader not to accept innuendo. Enjoyable read giving the reader a different type of heroine who is found by her perfect hero.

I definitely recommend this if you want to read about a heroine who isn't, and hate to sound cliched here, but she's not the typical mousy wallflower afraid of shadows. She's different in the sense that she's autistic, but Ruth is so very much relatable. Evan is the kind of hero that'll make you swoon because he took his time getting to know Ruth, didn't try to force her to move at his speed. He was a gentleman so it was a nice change of pace.
I also loved how their relationship developed with Ruth having to get past her suspicions and distrust because of the way the townspeople of Ravenswood treated her. I loved her relationship with her sister and mother, and that she decided for herself it was time for her to stand up for herself, and stop letting people define her, push and keep her in a box all because of her ex-boyfriend's obsession with her.
Needless to say, this is by far my favorite book by Ms. Hibbert. It was awesome.

Decent read, I was in literary love with Evan and I liked Ruth simply because she was blunt AF which is usually uncommon in most reads. I know there are many different levels if autism so I can not say if the the authors portral of it was accurate or not but I thought the building of the main characters relationship was pretty cute. I nearly melted when Evan told her she stared at him as if she'd never seen a man before. I'd read other stores linked to this series.

This was a refreshing change to the oversaturated billionaire/celeb based romances. Both Ruth and Evan are down-to-earth, snarky, hardworking, normal people who gravitated towards each other despite small town gossip. Every character in this book felt real. They had real issues, real responses. Also, no one was ridiculously evil in an over the top way that some romances seem to think they need. The villain in the story was evil purely due to his own human weakness that was not acknowledged or checked by the people who surrounded him.
So far, I've read every book by Ms. Hibbert that I could find, and I have not been disappointed in the single one! Fantastic storytelling, relatable characters, solid plotlines are guaranteed in her work.

honestly tho Talia has just solidified her place as a forever fave because how do I even sum up the amazingness of this book???? without just yelling:READ THE BOOK
This is the first book I've read with a black heroine who's autistic. And it's right there on the page, Ruth comes right out and tells Evan she's autistic and it's ownvoices rep as the author, in her note at the end, mentions she's autistic as well. I adored Ruth so much. her prickliness, her geekiness, seriously she has a tower of comic books, in her flat, that are this close to toppling on her. She's wears pajamas most times or leggings and there's this scene when Even after seeing Ruth in pjs most of the time they know each other finally sees her in leggings and nearly dies. poor man lol
and Evan omg what a guy. He's a big guy and is really aware of this and doesn't use it to his advantage or anything, just the opposite really. i loved how even with the initial attraction on both their sides their friendship builds where he keeps cooking and bringing her food and she loans him some comics and they then discuss it. They have legit discussions about Black Panther and i'm just reading this with the hugest smile on my face because it was the most adorable thing. And he was so good about consent. he always asked Ruth if she was okay with doing so and so or he'd ask if he could kiss her or touch her and yeah i really loved that
And the sexual tension. damn. Ms Hibbert knows how to write a scene that not only has the characters on edge but us the reader as well. and there's this one scene where their hands just touch when he's handing her the mug of tea and i nearly squealed because the author had tweeted that scenario which then led to her writing the book and i was looking out for it so talk about the most ridiculous smile on my face.
And yup this book did that. i found myself smiling alot.
The book does deal with some difficult topics as well. Evan is helping his friend Zach out by baking lasagnas and taking to him because his mother has cancer and it really hits hard for Evan because his mother also had cancer and passed away. Ruth is also dealing with being branded the town jezebel after her (secret) relationship with the sort of town golden boy imploded and now everyone gossips/talks about her behind her back so Ruth doesn't go into town much but as all that unfolds and comes to a head Ruth calls Daniel TF out for his crap and it is glorious to behold.
another thing i love about Talia's books is the sibling relationships. Ruth and her sister's relationship is sort of strained because Ruth blames herself for her sister smashing her (Ruth's) ex's car after she reveals Hannah how Daniel treated her like a dirty little secret the entire seven years of their relationship. But they talk it out eventually.
Hannah's book will be the 2nd in the trilogy and i'm hoping her LI is Zach (Evan's friend) fingers crossed!!
I could go on about soooo many things but i feel like i'm just rambling at this point lol. So honestly this book is just great on so many levels.

I liked this story. A real people romance, with characters that were absolutely relatable. Ruth was portrayed with empathy and realism. She is at times sweet, nerdy, and genuine. Then there's Evan, who is just so nice in the best way possible. There are serious elements incorporated into the story, illness, small town isolationism, the damaging effects of gossip, and intolerance. The romance between Ruth and Evan is everything, it had that slow burn buildup that I enjoy. Overall the book left me smiling at the end of it. I definitely look forward to more from this writer.

Becoming the neighborhood pariah has been Ruth's bane since she and Daniel severed ties.
She's been his secret for years and public ridicule on his part and others has caused her shame and guilt.
Evan Miller coming to live in their town may be the opportunity to bring Ruth out of her funk, but Daniel has a way of interrupting happiness.
Will Ruth regain her strength and place in her community and perhaps gain love?
This book held complicated emotions and situations with small town charm.

I enjoyed the H character. I enjoyed the evolution of the relationship. The author's afterword explains her attempts to portray a character that has autism. I do not believe that the author did a credible job of explaining or portraying autism. My takeaway of the attempt is a very psychotic unlikable character, which intelligently or emotionally, I do not believe is the case of a person who might suffer from the many different aspects of autism. If you are going to there, then spend the time to build understanding of this condition especially to a reader who might not understand how it manifests itself. The way the h character is portrayed made me think that we all must be suffering from some sort of autism; however, that would be disingenuous because I think that those afflicted might be having a really difficult time. Author is talented; however, she missed the boat.

A touching realistic love story. Slow to find Ruth's background to make her who she was of a dark eccentric outcast. Evan is the handsome kind patient neighbor. I really enjoyed following as their love blossomed. I loved that it wasn't as predictable, there were surprises that kept your attention, then they weren't what you thought, keeping you on your toes. A lot of good secondary characters leading you to possible other stories it would enjoy following. I voluntarily recieved and reviewed this wonderful love story.

The characters are well done and well developed it’s impossible not to love them. The female lead is likable and not remotely annoying and the male lead was into her without being obsessive or a stalker. This story is about a girl and a guy falling in love and all the baggage that comes with that. It is so down to earth and refreshing to read a story that I would totally believe could happen in real life. It’s a really lovely story and I’m glad I found this author.

A small town romance with diversity and charm. I loved Ruth and Evan's romance and can't wait for the next in the series. Everything about this book was on point, from Ruth's reluctance to Evan's acceptance of all her quirks. He doesn't bat an eye that she's autistic and they seem perfectly matched. I even loved the subtle resolution to Ruth's main external conflict. A fantastic small town romance for those wanting a little something different from the subgenre.

Well done, enjoyable read. It was also enlightening. There were some character traits Ruth had that I really didn't associate with anyone on the spectrum. Nice to learn in such an enjoyable way, reading Ruth and Evans story. I also like Ruth's quirky oddball charm. Definitely loved she's a Marvel girl. If you like a fun, a bit serious tale of small-town angst with a HEA ending, then you will enjoy this book. Happily recommended.

Another wonderful novel from Hibbert! I love how she weaves big issues into her stories without making them big issues. Ruth is autistic but she's not some object lesson or exhibit about autism. She feels real.
And Evan was a lovely, sexy, kind cinnamon roll of a hero. I love how he cares for her and others. Who needs alpha-holes when you can have a sexy man who cooks for you even when you're prickly?

Because my friends care about me, they recommend new romance authors. And because my friends care about me, they have made sure I know about Talia Hibbert.
This romance is so sweet and swoony. Autistic heroine, hero who cooks and watches out for people, small town drama, and a surprising amount of development for characters on the periphery (love that). I really enjoyed this one!

The book kept my attention and I loved how strong and caring of a man Evan is. Ruth deserved everything Evan gave to her and more. This book shows what secrets can do to someones life and it is better to be open and honest. The only reason it did not get 5 stars, I got tired of Ruth putting herself down.

Although at times the flow of the words seems choppy and some things feel unresolved, this book is really a lovely story with wonderful unique people that touches on many deeper issues such as grief and its long term effect, the ability of some people to be content while others are always wanting, how we view those with autism or cancer, and how we treat others based on gossip and half truths. Even with all that it is not a heavy book as it has humor and sweetness throughout.

The heroine is flawed, the hero is persistent. Together, they define and navigate their love language as they bridge the misunderstandings and mistreatment’s of the past. No one is perfect, yet you can build your own slice of paradise. I was rooting for them the entire time. Well written!

I absolutely love this book it was very refreshing. The characters were very funny and you could see the development of a relationship. It was not rushed it gave a lot of insight about higher functioning autism. And the difficulties that not only those individuals face but those who love them as well. The author did a wonderful job of presenting love jealousy fear and self-criticism.

Phenomenal. A woman on the spectrum and a man that loves fully. The small town mindset made her retreat into herself until a hunky, persistent neighbor invades her solitude and makes her notice him, face the world and come back to herself. Great read. Can't wait for the next in the series.
