a great little book. product fit the description of the seller (slightly used) but was just fine. We used a few passages from the book as a reading at our wedding. "I like you, because you're a good person to like" yada, yada :)

This is a cute, light-hearted book, perfect to give as a present to someone you love, rather it be your sister or brother, your mom or dad, your spouse. It will put a smile on your face and warm your heart.

This book definitely gives some unique and nice reasons for liking someone. I liked most of them. However, for some of them the author is so "real" about why people like other people that he lists not necessarily healthy reasons. For example, one page says that they like the other person because if they get mad at them, they also get mad back...when someone is nice to you when you're mad at them it makes you want to punch them in the nose. True? Sometimes. But not how I want to teach my child to be. Another example is they like the other person because when they say something funny the other person laughs. Does that mean when someone doesn't laugh you shouldn't like them?

The last page has a bizarre illustration of a little girl feeding a little boy who is all tied up.

In my opinion the age range should be 8 and up rather than 4 to 8.

The illustrations are all black and white sketch drawings.

I've never liked super mushy, super sad kids books. Sometimes I will like the story but it's just too sad! I don't want to read a book that will make me cry.. I'm the same with movies. But this book that was published in 1965 is quirky, silly, sweet, and not sad! And a perfect valentine (or any day gift!) for a little friend or a grown up one. We found this one at our beloved Reading Reptile (RIP) a few years ago. But I have been able to find it online. (Ahem, the store..) #kidsbooksworthreading #kidsbooks #childrensbooks #childrensliterature #kidsbookstagram #ilikeyou #kidslit

I LOVE this description:

"Here is the book that Romeo would have given Juliet, Charlie Brown would have given Snoopy, and you can give to some very special friend. This special book expresses the true meaning of friendship in a long list of ways with charming accompanying illustrations."

It really is a FUN book!

PERFECT for Valentine's Day OR any day you want to tell someone...

I LIKE YOU BECAUSE...

What greater reason to like someone than because they are a very good person to like?
This book perfectly illustrates that sometimes children's books can be just as much for teens and adults as they are for kids. I have shared this book with many of my closest friends, and we have treasured it. Many of its pages being inside jokes still after years and years.
As a children's book, you may find it a bit odd. It's humor may be lost on little ones. But if you have a best friend that is having a bad day, this is a perfect gift to bring a smile!

I originally found the text from this book while looking for the perfect ceremony readings for my Sept. '08 wedding. We decided the poem was a bit long for a reading--but I really wanted to incorporate it into the ceremony in some way. On an impulse I bought the book days before the wedding (thank you 2-day shipping!) and decided to use it as a guest book though I wasn't sure how that would turn out. The day after the wedding we finally sat down and paged through the book. I discovered that this is one of my most cherished mementos from wedding day. Our family and friends creatively chose from the adorable illustrations images that they could personalize! I have cute comments, loving notes, and funny word bubbles all through the book. Even better, the silver and gold pens we left out were used to decorate the cover and inside pages. I couldn't have asked for a better "gift" from my guests as now I can leave this book out and enjoy it and someday even read it to our children.

My daughter received this as a gift from her cousin when she was little. I imagine he picked it out because it was inexpensive and he was a college student. We enjoyed reading this together when she was small and we still pull it out once in a while, (especially when I want to be mommy to a little girl again!) It still pleases her!

I remember reading this book, and loving it, when i was small. I just came across it in a store, read the whole thing wile standing there and loved it just the same. It is perfection in a tiny package! Suitable for a friend, child or spouse, it sums up, realistically, how we feel when someone is our friend. No smarmy falsehoods, this is friendship, warts and all. And it rings completely true. Get it for everyone you love!

This past Christmas (2001), my boyfriend gave me this as a gift. He knew of my love for childrens books, and got it for me. After opening the box, I immediately started to read the book quietly to myself. It was so beautiful, with such a simple message anyone of any age can appreciate and love. I was drawn to tears of happiness after reading it, I tried to shield my reaction from the room full of his family members. But they caught me with the tears of joy streaming down my face. At this point his sister read it aloud to us all and she was drawn to tears as well. This book like I said earlier, is wonderful for a significant other, or just a friend you think is special. What can I say...absolutely wonderful work here and I highly recommend it to everyone.

I will say quite simply that having read this book I can see more clearly who it is I truely care about. It describes friendship with an unmatched child-like simplicity that strikes the beats of every heart that's had a true friend. This book makes the perfect gift for anyone special in your life.

Mailed this to my three best girlfriends randomly as a surprise, with a small card inside just expressing my gratitude for their friendship. It'd be great to include as a bridesmaid gift too. Attaching one to my husband's Valentine's gift too!

A very good friend read this book at our wedding, and it was the most delightful thing ever. I can't tell you how many people came up to us (and to her) afterward asking about the book. It brought tears to my eyes and smiles and laughter to our wedding ceremony. I love this book.

My best friend found this book at an antique shop and bought it. She has been holding on to it for a number of years. She gave it to me for christmas. We read it together and laughed and laughed. Then I went to the store.com and ordered one for her. Not only are the illustrations wonderful but if you ever liked someone alot you could relate to the print. Our favorite part is when it says " I never met anyone sillier than me till I met you." If you really, really want to tell someone how you feel this is the book for you.

An ephinany for grown-ups....as are many children's books (as are many children). While shopping for the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling, I, the impulse shopper, bought this book after looking at one page at the counter. Throw away the self-help books, buy this, read it, read it again and then keep it in good company with "If", The Prophet, Life After God and A Prayer for Owen Meany. Give it to anyone you like and everyone you love; give it to the innocent for sure and "pay it forward" to all grown-ups flirting with bitterness.
