One of the greatest vampire stories of all time & short enough to read in a couple hours. It's also really hot, even for the least sex obsessed minds out there, as it's written with elegance & class throughout. Worth every penny & second of your time.

Decided to read this because I stumbled upon a webseries on YouTube with the same title that's based off of this book. The series is amazing, so I thought why not read the basis' backstory. Did not disappoint. Tone is obviously different. But the book (which I learned later on is a part of LeFanu's own series) is well written. Suspenseful and thrilling. Fun and subtextually erotic. Also, if you're anything like me and you don't like reading clichéd lines when starting a book, this is a good one for you.

Pre-dating Bram Stoker's Dracula, this charmingly accessible vampire novel is perhaps a bit more subtle than modern novels but daring nonetheless, especially in the lesbian overtones that one might read as a cautionary message to young women of the era tempted to explore forbidden sensual impulses. Highly recommended.

I read this book because it was recommended as background material for the 3rd season of Penny Dreadful. I am sure it was good during it's day but it was too slow paced for me and seemed to drag on. I read a lot of books from this time period and don't usually have this issue. A young girl is left in the care of strangers. The longer she is in their home the more strange things begin happening. Can't tell you anymore without giving away the ending.

I read this book after reading Dracula and learning that this was the inspiration for that novel. I will gladly say it was better than Dracula, although, a little predictable. It is a short novel, and maybe a little dated- but overall a fun read.

The book itself is amazing. The physical copy here is not that great. The font is small and plain, and is formatted awfully. The book itself is larger than a normal book, yet the font is almost too tiny to read.

This classic short novel of a female vampire, set in the mid 1700's or early 1800's, is the basis for many horror films, most notably " The Vampire Lovers. A true classic and required reading for anyone into horror. How nice it is to have in a hardback edition. However, the cover of the book is a blank black and not the color cover advertised. At least the one I got was blank. This is a minor criticism though.

Before the vampire became a subject of ridicule (here's looking at you, Twilight), there was creatures of the night like Carmilla and Dracula. This book is short, beautifully written, and reminds me that vampires were beautiful, seductive and did not, in fact, sparkle in the sun. But the best part of reading it is knowing it inspired Dracula. Truly a must read.
