IF YOU ONLY WATCH F-O-X NEWS AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING TO OUR DEMOCRACY AND ALL OF OUR RIGHTS GIVEN TO US BY OUR CONSTITUTION, YOU NEED TO WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!!! AS MALCOM NANCE STATES:
" AMERICANS ARE "ALL" IN DANGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " Putin hates democracy an is trying to destroy democracies around the world."
I have gotten an incredible education (American history, international history) from FREE SPEECH TV. ORG. FREE SPEECH TV takes NO money from oil companies or big Pharma, or advertisers at all. It's just news and journalism. On FREE SPEECH TV, I only watch or listen to the "Thom Hartman Show" , Stephanie Miller" (her father was a prosecutor at the Nurenburg trials after the fall of the Nazi's in Germany), and "Democracy Now" And, I watch: MSMBC: Rachael Maddow, Lawrence O' Donnell and Joy Reid.
AGAIN, I AM TERRIFIED AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOTE IN THE MID-TERM THIS NOVEMBER. Only 1 political party seems to be in bed with Putin...and it's not the Democrats !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on how things ultimately turn out, this may well be one of the most important books in American history. Malcolm Nance, in a book that reads like a good spy novel, lays out the case that President Donald J. Trump is a witting agent of the Russian state and is complicate in Vladimir Putin's scheme to bring to an end the post war era of liberal democracy in Europe and around the world; replacing it with authoritarian regimes led by gangsters and autocrats. Every American should read this book.

This book should be mandatory reading for every American and indeed the world. Rome fell when treason was from within the very Govt. It never recovered. I have real fears the mighty USA is in deep trouble and may not recover. Malcolm and otters with this training should be leading a resistance to stop this, as it appears the GOP and rest of the govt are clueless. Very insightful read, essential reading.

Well written and detailed narrative of the events that have cast Trump as an Unwitting Asset of Russia turned into a Witting Asset, now having become a Useful Idiot. I don't pretend to know the proofread habits of book publishers, but to list 'Rod Rosenstein' in the index and yet refer to him as 'Rob Rosenstein' 3 times in the book is spell breaking.
Plus the statement that "but only for the 260 million Americans who did not vote for him" lends credence to Trump's absurd claim of millions of illegal voters.
137.8 million Americans voted in 2016 - 61.4% of total eligible voters. So what gives, Malcolm?

This book is well-written and provides great insight to the issues surrounding that Trump/Russia thing.
This book is also terrifying, showing what a feckless **** this Nazi president is.

Malcolm clearly understands Russians and has unfortunately, given us a chilling account of what happened to get us President Donald Trump. Although Malcolm at the time did not assert treason, I do believe we may find it was and I don’t think the Administration will follow Malcolm’s recommendations.

This book by Malcom Nance is important. It places the Russian intervention in 2016 Election in the context of a much larger picture of Putin's KGB/FSB/GRU training and his long view of undermining western democracies. What is stunning is the implementation of this audacious agenda across Europe has, now, been brought to our shores in the well-orchestrated attack on our Country. This is as much of an Act of War, as the 9/11 Attack on the World Trade Center in New York, which has shaken our national conscience to its foundations.
Putin's very sophisticated, multi-level, transnational cyber-attack has made the prophetic Khruschchev pronouncement at the Polish Embassy in 1956, "That we will bury you" a reality in 2018. A must read for Democrats, Republicans, Independents and American Patriots of all stripes.

I had seen Malcolm Nance on various punditry programs over the last few years, admiring his rapier wit and knowledge of the clandestine, given his counterintelligence background. But after reading The Plot to Destroy Democracy, I have a whole new appreciation for the man’s encyclopedic knowledge of global espionage, particularly when it comes to Putin and his oligarch cronies. Nance outlines step-by-step Trump’s transformation from Russian “useful idiot” to “unwitting asset”, and finally to “witting asset”. Russia has influenced democratic elections throughout the world by a process known as “active measures” where they co-opt social media platforms and use them to disseminate lies and fake news, in addition to classical cold-war-style spy tactics. Malcolm Nance is a true patriot whose erudite writing style shares the conciseness of Hemingway and the thrills of James Patterson novel despite being non-fiction. Read this book. It will not disappoint.

This book is so insightful. It explains a lot about what is going on around us. The thing I appreciate most is that it is based on facts, history and knowledge of the way intelligence agencies operate and the way our government operates. With this information in the background it gives context to everything that I hear on the news. I could not put this book down. I highly recommend it.

As an intelligence veteran myself I expect a high standard of factual and analytic work in book like this and Nance delivers. Every word is gospel, and every American needs to know these facts. Vladimir Putin has unleashed a new Cold War with a direct attack on our Republic by subverting and manipulating our election process, and he's still at it. Read this book and be informed.

The importance of this book is what demands it be given 5 stars, however the
mechanics, editing, titling, and organization do leave something to be desired.
I have the audiobook version of this book, and so it is a little annoying to have
chunks of text which are almost cut-and-pastes from stuff we've already read
earlier. It is a bit disorienting to check your device to make sure you did not
hit a rewind button or something. That said there is so much information here
that most of it bears repeating.
This book to me seems like a lawyer's brief, building a case for treason against
a President. The case is made methodical, slow and near air tight. Apparently
Trump is a citizen of note to the KGB/FSB as someone prominent to follow
and perhaps approach. Well before Trump's Presidential campaign he was
meeting with Russian oligarchs and comes way repeating lines from the Russian
point of view. One thread of the book talks about how rich Americans are
stunned by the wealthy in other countries, specifically the authoritarian and
autocratic countrys, like Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc, and these Western Oligarchs
get jealous enough to work to sell out their own countries and ideologies.
There is room for a whole lot more analysis of this, how Western billionaires
and oligarchs work to manipulate the political system. Too bad this book does
not go more deeply in that. This is also not just the story of Donald Trump
and the Russians. In fact as I was reading it I was wondering whether which
side really instigated this as the message of the Russian Oligarchic Authoritarians
is almost the same as the message from Republicans and their backers, I
call them Russki-Publicans. The American fascists need plausible deniability
to attack this country, and Russia can help a lot with that.
There is the Russian connection to Trump's children and their meetings and
relationships with Russians, as well as Jared Kushner. It doesn't look good
that Trump has still not released his tax returns and seems to think he will
never have to.
I am writing this after the disgraceful performance of Trump in Helsinki and
Europe where he bashed Western leaders and said he believed Putin over
accusations of election hacking over our own intelligence services. Will
Trump just slip like a greased pig away from this incompetence too. One
of the solid criteria for treason is giving aid and comfort to the enemy, which
there is no doubt Trump did. As Trump slams NATO, and the European
heads of state who criticize him.
The thing is this is not just all Trump, this is a movement funded by very rich
and powerful people that actually prefer an autocratic, undemocratic system
based on nationalism and racism, and Trump appears to be working towards
such a system, which is also a violation of his oath of office.
Money and support is being funnelled to right-wing groups like the NRA, the
KKK, NeoNazis, and right-wing nationalists such as those who want to get
California to secede from the USA under the brand of CALEXIT, like BREXIT.
Many of these same types of groups in Europe are also getting support from
Russia.
What I find to criticize about this book as I say is it loose organization, and
sensational tone. "The Plot to" opening titles sounds cheap and fake, and I
don't blame some people for criticizing the book on those grounds. There
are times in the book where it is very obvious Nance has contempt for Trump,
and perhaps stronger, but he explains where that comes from as military
man from a long line of military men in a military family, as well as a black man
in Trump's America. As I said, the book is not perfectly titled or formed, but
that is not the reason to read it. The reason to read it is that it is one of the
few books that puts what is happening in America these last decades into
a perspective where it fits and makes sense and Occam's Razor states,
the simplest explanation is usually the right one, and the big picture that
Nance paints helps it all fall nicely into place, much the way Thomas Frank's
or Nancy McLean's books explain the Republican party from another angle.
I found this book full of facts, convincing and I just wish it had been written
and released earlier ... i.e. that the alarm has been set off sooner.

This book does nothing but demonstrate how little this author knows. He just regurgitates the public facing spin on the facts from the DNC and and other partialy informed victims without explanation of how little assurance we have of identifying who in Russia did what. And that's a bigger deal than US citizens typically think, because they don't know much about the structure of the Russian government. The Russians aren't united. Putin is currently terrified of the Kremlin to the point he made a new Russian National Guard to protect himself from rogue agents. Meanwhile, a minority in the Kremlin are trying to regain Putin's trust with ironically rogue activities that they think he would like. They think if they pull something off, they'll assure future funding and contain the growth of power of the Russian National Guard. There is a divide between more moderate oligarchs like Medvedev and more extremists like the White Rose Collective. There are fake opponents to Putin that surprisingly have unique agendas that not all of Putin's men agree wtih like the isolationist dreams of Boris Titov. There are a very wide array of interests and a whole mess of them stepping on each other's feet. I don't doubt something happened, but he doesn't give any information to discern what precisely that something is, or any untangling of the mess that is the Russian intelligence community is. The illusion of a mastermind Putin running a highly sophisticated intelligence machine is the surest way to prove how little Mance knows. I also really wanted to know more about what the Russian side of this now tells us, especially since every media outlet outside the US is full of new details. The Aeroflot hacks in particular were something I hoped would come up. Again he has nothing more than what various politicians have put forward including their spin with zero push back on why their versions isn't the complete truth. This is a very brief summary of the symptoms with very little understanding of the causes. He's not really wrong for most of the facts, he's just very incomplete in his facts. Then he does get some embarrassing simple facts wrong like the date of the MH17 disaster. And he does trust the spin way too much. I guarantee you that the Russian influence wasn't as complete as he makes it out to be, though it clearly tipped the scales just enough.

Fancy Bear, Cozy Bear, Guccifer, Wikileaks (‘Trumps laundry for stolen intel’), DCLeaks, the secure server in Hillary Clinton's basement (arguably the safest place for it) guarded by the Secret Service, the DNC hacking, the exploitation of a hated religion and the cultivation of racial bigotry, etc, etc, we have all seen the pieces of the puzzle splashed before us helter- skelter in twisted disarray of sound an fury thanks to a yellow press and a massive propaganda machine. Now comes Malcolm Nance to put it all together and show the us the sinister plot to destroy democracy woven into wicked tapestry. Mind-blowing. In the first pages it become clear why Trump is pulling security clearances for former Obama officials like John Brennan. Even more compelling than James Comey’s “A Higher Loyalty”. Downright chilling.

A brilliant work. Mr. Nance is an excellent writer with a tremendous ability to explain complex situations plainly and simply.
This is a very serious situation. Russia has learned to weaponized information and is at war with the West. Their goal is to destabilize true democratic governments that have to answer to the people they represent: then to replace them with autocratic governments who answer to no one. Their tools include the spread of false information and targeted messaging through media and social media. A big part of their strategy is to denigrate mainstream media (which rejects their blatantly false and misleading narratives) and prop up fringe as well as their own false news networks.
These networks use false narratives to fool people on the far right and left into voting against their own best interests. The Trump family has become willing participants in this plot to take down American Democracy in the hopes of building their own wealth & power base. The Trumps are using the Russian support to tear down American institutions that protect individuals in the hopes of building their own European style Family Dynasty where they and their close friends are above the law, but the rest of the country is under Tyranny: the kind of tyranny that the FOUNDING FATHERS of the United States of America fought to overcome.
Probably the saddest part of this is that the GOP Congress has become complicit and is essentially enabling the Trumps (and Putin) to destroy the singular beacon for truth and justice in the world: American Democracy
We are under siege and the only way around this is to vote out Trump and anyone who claims that they support his (Putin’s) Agenda.

The timeliness of this book is amazing. It was written before I'd ever heard the name Maria Butina, but she, along with numerous other Russians (and Americans!), are all characters in this shocking plot to destroy America. I know nothing about politics, so this book helped me understand who all the characters are, and the common plot. There are so many acronyms that I could've used a glossary with short definitions. And as others have mentioned, it could use more editing, but I understand why they rushed it to print with the upcoming election. It should be read by any American who is confused about what is going on.
On another note, it looks like a bot named Bob is responding to many 5-star reviews with the same comment. Negative comments can sometimes make me reconsider reading a book, but in this case, they only confirm what Malcolm Nance wrote--that trolls are using bots to alter our opinions. Thank you Mr. Nance for taking the time to write this timely book.

Gripping and horrifying - because it is true and it is happening out in the open under our noses. Read it before it’s too late. Hubby is reading hardcover book and I bought the Kindle edition so I could adjust the font size to the largest possible, and to adjust the brightness.

If you want a clear, concise, intelligent, and extremely well researched, and well proved, explanation of just how much Putin is affecting and achieving the breakdown of democracy throughout the world, and especially in the United States, I suggest you read this book.
Mr. Nance is very direct, knowledgeable, and has extremely well researched the history of the Russian KGB efforts, since the development of the Soviet Union, to bring down democracies wherever they appear.
Mr. Nance has well examined and well presents just how Trump has been 'used', and duped into falling into line with Putin. At this stage, I believe Trump is a witting cohort of Putin.
I 'liked' this book, but it scares me. We here in America are not used to the 'long vision' of Russia, with regards to their nation, its future, and its 'rightful' place in the world This book shows exactly what Putin's plans are; the many ways in which they are achieved; and the outcomes of each aspect.
I urge every politician in Washington, and throughout the States, to read this book, and then decide if yourself, if this is the way you want America to be debased, and mocked, or if you're O.K. to be complicit with Putin's plans for America.

An extremely important book to read in this political climate. Malcolm Nance has done an excellent job of explaining the rise of Vladimir Putin in Russian politics, the beginnings of the Russian hacking agencies and the intersection between Russia and the ultra conservative movements in the United States. The last section is by the best and most engaging - so stick with it, and learn a lot.

I thought I was starting to have a panic attack this morning. I never had one, but was feeling very anxious and unsettled. Then I thought I made my coffee too strong. I continued reading. Only one more chapter to go in Malcolm Nance's book. It's the book!! This book is terrifying. Nance pulls together the multifarious threads of intelligence data, his 35 year career experiences as a spy, and public records to weave a cogent tapestry of a nation on the brink of disaster. This non fiction book reads like a spy novel. It is scary good. If it is all true (and I think it is), God help us.

I bought Mr. Nance’s book about El Qaeda years ago and felt it was excellent. It really helped me understand a lot about that group. It was factual and without political leanings. However, at the very beginning in the forward, Rob Reiner already tells you his political feelings. In order to preserve credibility and present an objective view, I would not have chosen this approach. Then Mr. Nance goes on to say that 40% of the population was “manipulated” by social media. 100% of those on social media are “manipulated”, not just someone interested in Trump. The current headlines like to emphasize that the 2016 election was influenced and people made decisions based on hacking. Just a few years before, Obama had made the same complaint. Multiple countries have been attempting to hack us for many reasons over the years. China comes to mind. I would have preferred that someone of Mr. Nance’s
intelligence would have focused on cybersecurity and how to protect us from hacking, not just his endless attacks on President Trump and name calling. We have enough of that in the media on both sides of the aisle. I have been following Hillary for 25 years and did not base my decision not to elect her based on Trump, some Facebook comment, or anything a bobble head on cable news said. So, unfortunately, my original decision to buy this audiobook because of my previous impression of Mr. Nance ended up in disappointment. I really wished he could have done a complete review of hacking and spying of this country with plans to protect us instead of turning it into another mudslinging, one sided editorial with some facts thrown in to support How he feels. It’s obvious the 5 star raters are all of one political stance and did not see this. I understand their angst about Hillary not winning and their right to speech. I just really bought this to get the truth and feel that was hard to ferret out with all the innuendos and obvious political slant. Having said that, I appreciate Mr. Nance’s service to our country.

This book perfectly distills the many commentaries and educated conjectures Ive read and heard from Malcolm Nance. It reads a little slowly because there is a lot of content to absorb. I believe Mr. Nance has the receipts to back up his theories and I think he does a really good job of putting difficult concepts into words that many will be able to comprehend. I am grateful for the opportunity to see the puzzle pieces fall into place. I cant say it's entertaining but it is definitely educational!

All Americans need to read this book right now so that we can know the truth about what's happening to our country. Democracy around the world is being attacked by many different means. Brainwashing, misinformation, social media, and mostly our Putin elected President- Donald Trump. He is doing exactly what Putin wanted him to do. Destroying Nato. Destroying relationships with our allies. Dividing the country. One of the first things a dictator does is say the free press is FAKE NEWS. Destroying his enemies. Trump is slowing trying to become like those he admires most- Putin and other dictators. He wants to be a dictator and tell you what to think or believe. He said it himself. Don't believe what you read or see. Believe what I tell you. Scary. America WAKE UP!

Malcolm Nance, you are my new hero! I believe Trump was used as a “useful idiot” by Putin but for me there was little evidence to connect the dots until your book. This is the worst crisis our country has faced since I’ve been alive. We must vote straight Democratic ticket to oust these spineless republicans who many may have received Russian money (Dana Rohrabacher). They have all been compromised including Lindsey Grahm. Please keep educating us! There should be a 40 foot Statue of you in Washington DC for your service tour country!

Outlines Russia's long history of using propaganda and disinformation to destabilize the governments of countries they have designs on. While it doesn't provide conclusive proof that Trump was knowingly involved with Putin and The Kremlin in their efforts to influence the US elections, it certainly makes such a scenario much more believable. Everyone should read this to know what sort of danger America is in.

As a patriot, it must be a tremendously painful thing to know what Mr. Nance knows and lays out so plainly in his book. In pointing out and placing in order facts many of us are aware of and the addition of things only someone in his position has access to this book is a must read. Warning though, the more you learn, the madder you may become at the modern GOP.

Malcolm Nance is the best, most vocal authority writing about the plots to undermine the democratic government of the USA. Period.
This book should be mandatory reading for any adult in the USA, and it's NATO allies. Insights are given into the covert world of the KGB, FSB, GRU etc. The conclusion is found in the book's title. And Donald Trump bears responsibility.
Malcolm Nance is an articulate intelligence person, whose career was in Intel. He knows what he is talking about. He is not a one-sided partisan, in fact he is a life-long Republican,

A very interesting book. One must appreciate the candor with which the author sets his opinions of current situations. The historical details of Russian intelligence efforts against the U.S and others are worth evaluating carefully. Another reader has stated that this book should be considered a "must read." I agree.

Malcolm succinctly describes who's who and what role Russia is playing in our current administration. I literally got chills when within two days of my listening to this audiobook, Mariia Butina was arrested and the ties to the NRA came front and center.
This Country needs to vote them all out. No lie.

This book is scary good. Malcolm Nance has been discussing the way Vladimir Putin used different means to mess with our elections and how he did it, this book is detailed and coming from someone that know what he is talking about. Malcolm Nance really out did himself with this very informative book.

A detailed and fascinating look at how Russia is undermining our democracy. Sadly, it is with the indirect and sometimes direct help of the Republican Party and the Trump administration. Those who support Trump should read this book, but very few will. There is a strange and terrifying blindness among those on the right to what is happening to the US.

Nance puts it out there - without hedging bets. I love to hear his thoughts on national security issues; I think he one of the best. I have real concerns about Russia's hold on our current President, and Nice helps put that in context of a larger Russian scheme.

This is hands down the most important book to read! Malcolm is the Paul Revere of our generation and his call to arms is real. I cannot impress enough the importance of reading this book and telling everyone you know to read it as well.

So proud of our FBI, CIA and others. As scary and concerning this book is, there is comfort in knowing our special government agencies know what and how Putin has tried to attack our democracy. We have some very smart people that do put their country before their party! Know the American people are great ful for your sacrifices!

Malcolm Nance might as well have a crystal ball. I have read both "The Plot to Hack America" and "The Plot to Destroy Democracy". Both books are right on the money as far as what is happening in America today. When news breaks I just say, "Well, of course, that was what was in Malcolm's book." He has said that when he re-read this book before his book interviews and tours he scared himself. Yes, I'm scared; but I am also on fire and will do anything I can to save the United States of America from Orange Mussolini.

This may be the most important book I’ve ever read. Every American should be aware of the threat it details with clarity, precision, and an appropriate level of alarm. While the MSM waffles, Nance tells it like it is. Be prepared for the scary truth. It is time to act.

This is the most important book I have ever read. There are parts of it that are slow to read, but it does not disappoint. It's on point, and scary as he'll. Everyone in America should read this book.

but not so much inside Trump's. How does Trump's dementia factor into his servitude?
When Trump describes facial bleeding in women (Megyn Kelly, Mika B), is this something he hallucinated? Seems like it.
What does he see when he looks at stairs or ramps? I guess that's another book.
Nance remarks that there are only two people Trump won't dare to criticize: Putin and Rachel Maddow. Yeah, why is that?

Malcolm Nance's book makes every news story make sense and almost predictable like dominos falling.
At a time when we wonder if anyone is ever going to stop this guy dt, it's reassuring to know now that our intelligence agencies know the plot & are on the case. This book explains the real characters & real threat. Hopefully Malcolm's next book tells us how it all worked out in favor of democracy.

I was given this book by a friend after we saw Malcolm Nace on Bill Mahre’s show. I was excited to get the book after hearing him speak. Unfortunately the book seems to be a cut and paste book that is not worth the time or cost. One example of the poor editing is a duplication of most or a paragraph from page 143 to page 146! As an academic who has published books I am astounded that this book is in print. While there may be worthwhile things in the later part of this book, after this gross error of editing I have lost all faith in further reading. Book not worth the price or time. Further the first 146 pages seem to more Russian history with NO examples of how Nance feels the Russians hurt our 2016 election. Seems like a book for with a catchie and popular title but with little if any evidence to support his thesis.

Read This Book!!! The Plot to Destroy Democracy is the best and most important book about Putin's, Trump's and Russia's attack on our system of government. Comparisons to the rise of the third Reich are justified.

I would recommend that you read this book as well as the book of Jerome Corsi "Killing the Deep State". While reading these two books, please make a list of the Author's conclusions vs. the facts in support of the corresponding conclusion. I appreciate letting the two Authors about the result of your analysis. It will be a very useful feedback to them.

Pure fiction, I can see why Malcolm tries to get as many appearances on "news" shows as possible, there is no way anyone would have thought this was worth purchasing, he's betting on name recognition from TV soundbites...
