Christopher Moore has to be one of the funniest, and really warped, writers of today! This book chronicles the story of a beautiful young woman who is turned into a vampire one "dark and stormy night" in San Francisco. It also tells of a young man from the mid-west who is the night manager of a supermarket where he and his fellow "workers" bowl with turkeys and do other strange things. We also have the Emperor of San Francisco with his two faithful dogs, one of whom has a nose for seeking out vampires. It sounds strange, and it certainly is, but you keep turning the pages while you just laugh and laugh. Somehow the throught of vampires in San Francisco doesn't seem as strange as it should, given the odd reputation of California and its unusual residents.

Fortunately, I'd read "Lamb" before I read this book, so I was already hooked on Christopher Moore. This one was not nearly as clever or well researched, but it was enjoyable. I definitely plan to read the next one. I would strongly urge younger readers to first read Bram Stoker and Anne Rice. Do not let this be your first vampire novel. (I'd also recommend first reading Tales of the City, on which Moore seems to have based his cultural understanding of San Francisco).I would have given it 3.5 stars if the store would let me.

Bloodsucking Fiends is a dark comedy about a vampire named Jody and her boyfriend Tommy. This was the first book I've read by Christopher Moore. I found his humor to be witty and absurd, similar to Tom Robbins. My favorite character was the Emperor - his dialogue was hilarious and dry as a bone. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Christopher Moore is a sick, twisted, human being. More to be pitied than censured.... I'm not saying he's evil. I'm just saying I wouldn't trust him with a puppy, a school girl or my mother's recipe for meatloaf. I like his books. They're just wrong. This was the wrongest one so far. Buy this book. Give it to your friend. Buy more books, get more friends.

Bloodsucking Fiends, the third book by Christopher Moore, is a light-hearted, vampire love story set in San Francisco; filled with irreverent commentary on the city itself and character types found there.
Follow the trials of Jody, the "cute but not beautiful" newborn vampire, as she struggles with her new life as a creature of the night and her vicious sire. C. Thomas Flood, pun intended I'm quite sure, SF newbie and late-night Safeway clerk falls in love with Jody and the romantic hijinx ensue! An enjoyable read, lots of humor and a solid book from a rising talent.

I bought this book because I LOVE Christopher Moore! Although written before the whole "Twilight" phase, this book, when read now, is a great parody for the era. I bought this book to read with my boyfriend, who isn't an avid reader like I am. Well, thanks to Christopher Moore, he's one now!

Super funny, fast read, and completely engrossing. A completely different vampire story. Instead of broody sparkly vampires, you get snarky vamps who just want a cup of coffee and a pile of fries. I love Christopher Moore's work.

Christopher Moore is amazingly talented. This books trilogy is one of my favorites. It's a satirical, imaginative, a fully entertaining quick read with so much wit and humor you will laugh out loud. Loved it!

This is my second Christopher Moore book (first being Lamb). I'm liking what I've seen so far. He can be very funny, and there are many grin worthy and even a few laugh out loud moments (I don't "lol" easily, that's a compliment). One thing to point out is that its not a steady stream of jokes though like, say, Douglas Adams whom he is frequently compared to. He'll take time out from the comedy to let a character beat or plot point resonate better. I like this balance between comedy and drama quite a bit. I wasn't just picking this book up to laugh, but also because I was genuinely curious about what was going to happen to the characters.

Bleaaghh. Exactly the kind of humor you'd expect from a white male author in the mid-nineties. He doesn't miss a single stereotype, this guy. I don't know if I would've enjoyed this in 1995, but it has aged extremely poorly. Read something else.

If other vampire yarns are getting too melodramatic for you, or you just want to relax and read something that'll make you laugh out loud, you can't go wrong with this superlative novel about life after undeath.
