I am a big fan of the writer under her other name and have read many of her series. However, this may very well be my favorite book out of them all!! I cannot wait for more. Zara is a lovable heroine who has had her world turned upside down. The characters are so thought out and no one is perfectly good or perfectly evil. They all have grey like real life. If you love fantasy and steampunk you must check this book out!!

Love this new series, it's full of danger, lust and bonding. There's a real sense of purpose as the story unfolds. The author conveys the gap between those born to fly and those forced to cater to the upper class. It has all the makings of another rags to riches best seller. I really don't want to wait for the next one.

I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here.

I‘m reading this author’s series and it’s hard to stop and take a break. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’ve finished this book, starting the second and am following the author to ensure I get notified when her third book is published.

I liked the dynamic of a female rider and female dragon. I did guess the twist about the bad guy pretty early on in the book, but it didn't take away my enjoyment. And I thought Zara was a bit too trusting at times, but she was brave without being irritating. And there are still mysteries left that leave me intrigued for the rest of the series.

Zara Kenrook had been abandoned at an orphanage in childhood and by definition that meant she was destined to live in the slums but she has managed to gain a name as one of the best treasure hunters in Elantia. However she does have enemies and when one calls in a debt she is faced with an impossible decision - break into a dragon rider's house and steal a priceless object or lose her career and start again doing something else. However the object she tries to steal is incorrect and is actually a dragon's egg which starts to hatch - when they see each other life will never be the same again.

Wow - this is a great story that had drama, twists and turns all through the book. I loved the concept of the world, the dragon riders and the scrapes she found herself in. It was well written and everything was well written and easy to understand and feel. I loved the ending and can't wait for the next book in the series now as I really need to know what happens next.

Read it! I love fantasy books, and I love books about dragons. But it is so hard to find a good book about dragons. Well this book exceeded my expectations by far! Can't wait for the next one. I have only one thing to say, read the book!

This is a well crafted, completely believable fantasy story that reads true. Great characters, excellent storyline and written so well each scene is totally 'see'-able! She's created an entire world and history as well that is incredibly well thought through! If you are a fan of Pern and Anne McCaffrey's books, you will love this series! Off now to buy book #2 in the series!

Loved the heroine, her sweet little Dragon and the world she lives in. Two hunky men in her life and adventures galore. So far, she is not one of those idiot girls who don't listen to anyone and go off and do their own thing, mess it all up, and still manage to win....hate those kind of so called heroines. And did I mention, DRAGONS!!

Nice, light read with realistic characters, and a story that is not overwhelmed with violence. Only four stars because there were a couple of distracting technical improbabilities (aircraft propellers turned by springs?).
Highly recommended for young adults, or old plots like me that enjoy a fun story.
I especially liked the world’s history, and the protagonist’s interest in digging it up.

Zara does remind me of Lessa of Dragonflight (1st novel about Pern). Their stories are different, however, their spirit is much the same. On to the next book in the series! Maybe reread the Pern novels as well ?

Usually, when I start a new series it takes a bit for me to get pulled in but not with this one. In fact, the very first chapter had me pulled in with its action and I quite enjoyed that. Without divulging too much, I loved reading the various bonds that developed between the different characters. And, I love Lessie! Can't wait to read their next adventure!

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

I adore this book. Well done. I like the plot and the heroine isnt a useless ninny. Decent storyline with some romance and drama always makes a book worth reading. First book i have read by this author, but i am also looking forward to the next one.

This series from Jessica Drake/Jasmine Walt is something to rejoice about. Her heroines ae always intriuingly feisy and talented in wonderful ways. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in his new series. The dragon Lessie is especially appealing, and fun too! Hooray for Dragons and kick ass heroines. They'll get my vote every time. .

As an avid Dragon lover, I've read a lot of the old greats. Pern was my first love. Lackey's take on dragonriders was different, but not quite the same. Eragon got close. Miss Drake nails it. Combining the best of all worlds, Zara is a heroine we can get behind, and with a great cast of supporting characters, this book is amazing. I read it all in one go. Definitely give this one a chance.

As an ARC reader I have read Jasmine’s books before. This is one of her best starts for a series that I have read. The story of a pretty girl thief and how she gets to team up with a dragon. The story unfolds very well and keeps your interest from the start to the end of the book (not the end of the story) and leaves you wanting more. It has different classes of people and different types of people to hold everyone’s interest and leaves you wanting more. You will be left waiting for the next book in the series to be released.

This is another awesome new series by Jasmine Walt. Zara is a ground dweller and a treasure hunter who makes a really poor decision to steal from a Dragon rider. Zara's life completely changes after this. This world is amazing and has dragons. There was plenty of mystery and a little romance too. Can't wait to read the next book.

I really love this series!! It has Zara and her dragon Lessie as well as Rhia, Jallis and Lord Tavarian. This book is filled with action, adventure, danger, betrayal, humor, dragons, romance, friendship, magic and twists and turns. And it really reminds me of Jasmine's Baine series that I loved so much of.

So in a lot of ways Zara Kenrook reminds me of Sunaya, and that's a good thing! This little orphan has gone from being a freelance treasure hunter to a dragon rider. The transformation takes place through a series of adventures. It was a story filled with mafia type elements, social class segregation, different magical talents, a drool worthy potential boyfriend, elements of a steampunk society and of course the most adorable dragonling, Lessie.
Can't wait to see the trouble this dragon baby gets into next with Zara. With this book Jasmine has gone back to her original strength of the fantasy genre with a strong female lead character. Thankfully no RH elements seen so far! I am absolutely delighted with the book and look forward to the next one.

What's not to love! As always this author delivers with a grand start to what promises to be a great new series. The story is written with refreshing and attention grabbing detail that boast strong women and much beloved dragons. So dig in for an entertaining and fantastic adventure ride.

The main character was tough, but had her own slew of flaws and issues. She was extremely relatable, and Lessie was the epitome of what I fantasize a dragon would present herself. The characters were engaging, and the story flowed beautifully. The only thing bad to say is how fast I read it. Can't wait for the next installment!!

All Magic and mayhem in a mesmerizing new full fantasy world. Adored the Bane Chronicles. The Call Of The Dragon has a similar skeletal form and feel.

Loved Zara, she is fierce and fiery, all badass who is thrown from one world to another world high in the sky.

Loved the magic, loved the dragons. Loved the steampunk elements. Am excited for the next installment.

Pros:
Dragons bonding with humans
Good touch of magic
Relatable characters
Uh did I mention /dragons/?!
Cons
Inadequate physical descriptions
A bit light on the world development but that I hope will come
There only appears to be only one more, I'm going to want more then that I just know it!

A departure from the somewhat typical fantasy fare, I enjoyed this book enough to read the next in the series back-to-back. While characterizations are somewhat similar to others in this genre, they’re well-developed in a plotline that is different enough to sustain forward momentum.

I liked the fact the main character is an orphan who still cares for and helps those.she was raised with, creating family. These and the world of difference tween the Dragon riders and the ground walkers should let any number of issues arise, and offline you are magic into the mix.?

With a somewhat of a “rags to riches” style plot, this book gives a new meaning to the title Adventure. Zara and Lessie will capture your heart and you won’t be able to resist getting caught up in their story. Lessie, the spunky dragon, will have you wishing you could have one of your own as a pet...oh but don’t make that mistake in calling her a pet unless you want a permanent suntan. Be ready for another all nighter when you begin reading because Jasmine has done it again. I can’t wait for the next installment!

Most of the time the first few pages of a new novel will set the tone of said book. I am most definitely not a prude, and can use colorful language with the best of them....however, I draw the line at vulgarity....especially when it is used several times on the very first page. In my experience, profanity and vulgarity are not the same. A good author does not have to use vulgar words in order to gain attention nor set the stage for the book. I am glad that I borrowed rather than bought this book. Am returning it as soon as I finish my review.

I loved how well developed the characters and backstory are, and the potential for so much more history to come through with the world building. The plot is great, and a great take on the "urchin rising through the ranks" theme. Fantastic new book, I cant wait for the next one!

This book was so brilliantly written. You have a sassy, fiesty, ass kicking heroine named Zara. An orphan who grew up mostly on the streets. She is given a task by her "surrogate" father and while working on the task she finds and accidently hatches a dragons egg. Then the real adventure begins...

This is an incredibly well-written fantasy/steampunk novel. The heroine allows the reader to develop with her and the story line is well paced, the lore well developed, and the emotions raw and evolving. I eagerly await the next book!

Anyone who's into the whole Dragonriders sub genre, will like this book. Some plot twists that keep you guessing, and sort of a false end that then didn't and kept going. I enjoyed this book quite allot. I look forward to the next book.

I loved this story! The characters were great and I enjoyed the storyline, which has a unique and fresh twist on things. There are some great possibilities for the characters that I would be excited to read about in the next book(s)! I found myself devouring this book, which is always a sign of a book well written with interesting characters and a decent plot. My only slight criticism is that some of the events felt a bit rushed, like the events happened in very quick succession (which is not necessarily a bad thing, I just mean that to me it felt rushed) I think that a little tension would have made the book even better. Or perhaps, maybe it’s a lack of self reflection? I’m not sure, but anyway, it didn’t take anything away from the story as a whole, it’s just a personal thing. I would definitely want to read more about these characters, their dragons, and their adventures!
*I was honoured to have received an ARC of this book.

Ms. Walt always does an astounding job of creating fierce, intelligent and sexy FMC.
Zara is a treasure hunter who has worked extremely hard for her own business. In this magical world, there is very much the low lifes and the aristocrats. Zara lives in the dangerous part of town and has to be bold and aggressive in order to survive. One can make enemies very quickly - and one can end up owing favors to the wrong people.
Zara ends up in a huge predicament that changes her life forever. Thrust into a magical world where she meets and bonds with a dragon she tries her best to survive in these new dangerous waters.

The action scenes are done extremely well. Light romance - reads more YA right now.
Violence and talk of war.

I'm curious about Zara's heritage as a large clue was given to us at the end that she's not who she thought she was all along.

Very well done!

So fun to have such a strong heroine again. Sunaya was fabulous in the authors Baine chronicles and I think Zara is going to be just as fabulous. A strong heroine who is not afraid to step up and do what needs to be done! Great job! I cannot wait for the rest of the Dragon Riders series

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because I absolutely loved it!! I knew when I first started reading the book that I would enjoy it since I love Jasmine's writing. However, this may be her best book yet! The characters, story line and humor make for a great and quick read. I read it straight through in one sitting and immediately wanted the next book.

Zara is an orphaned treasure hunter who co-owns an antique shop with her friend. Zara goes on adventures and finds treasure with her abilities (she doesn't like to call it magic) that leads her to treasure of worth. When a heist gone wrong causes her to be bonded to a dragonling, her whole life and everything she knows changes.

I seriously cannot wait for the next book! This is a great start to a new series.

If you have been looking for a good book to read, then "Call of the Dragon" is what your looking for. It captured my attention right off. I really enjoyed Aragon, so when I found this Dragon Series I was excited to get started. So, if your looking for a book with adventure and magic, this is the one! This book has a mix of Dragon and Tomb Raider wrapped in one. I can't wait to start reading the next book in this series.

? This looks like it might be a good story but I can't read it to be able to tell because the last quarter of every page is missing. Jessica Drake please look into this because a lot is missing and it is too irritating to read, I gave up just as Carisa's brother entered the story.

Jessica Drake has written a phenomenal start to what promises to be a wonderful high fantasy meets steam punk series, "Call of the Dragon." The imagry for the settings is vivid while the characters are fully fleshed with realistic dialogue. Additionally the plot is not only perfectly paced but refreshingly original, though you will notice Drake giving a respectful nod here and there to some of the great fantasy authors of the past.
Reading this book was effortless. I didn't want to put it down or for the story to end, not to mention I can hardly wait for the sequel to be published. Altogether this delightful novel, the first in a VERY promising new dragon fantasy series, is one I highly recommend you purchase.

I’m the first to admit that I love dragons but this book immediately caught all my attention - I just had to read it all in one sitting! Miss Jasmine worked her magic and made a unique and fantastical world very real and relatable. I was fascinated by all of the relationships, especially between dragon and rider - it was amazing to watch the development. I can’t wait until the next book comes out - my breath is baited.

I’ve seen so many new books about dragons and their riders. They’ve been flooding the market it seems. But even though some of these are very good. They can’t match what Anne McCaffrey spent decades honing and perfecting...The Dragonriders of Pern. Her world of Pern drew you in, you were that rider/dragon..you felt the cold of between, the sear of thread as it crossed your cheek, their wings. Paolini, Drake, Novik and numerous others are very good..but Anne McCaffrey will continue to hold and retain the crown of Dragons and their riders.

This story is reminiscent of Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Riders series. This is not a bad thing.
