A good introduction to getting in touch with one's feelings and coping techniques. These are messages we think children get at home or in school, but sometimes these messages don't get through. Because it is branded by American Girl it has instant credibility. Very easy read.

Some good advice. Wish authors would keep in mind not all kids have a mom and dad. I was excited to read this with my 9 yr old but there’s too much reference to a dad or divorced parents. I can cut out those parts I suppose.

I bought this for my daugher who was having trouble after my ex and I divorced. It seems to have helped her understand a little bit about feelings and that they are normal for all kids to have. She is nine and really likes the book.

We enjoy the American girl series. We have several different ones, this one in particular. My daughter to keeps them in her room...she enjoys them and often times they open up conversation without my having to pepper her.

My daughter has definitely been exploding with hormonal rage lately. After a 1 hour tantrum about brushing teeth I asked some friends for advice and this book was suggested. I thought it may be hard to get my daughter to read it because she isn't a girly girl and has no clue about American girl dolls (or any dolls that aren't Minecraft related). However after telling her about it, her complaining that it looks "too long" she snuck it into her bedroom when I wasn't looking and started reading it. She was intrigued by the survey type aspect of the book, it asks you a bunch of multiple choice questions about who you react to certain situations. And that I think is what has hooked her. Now every night after reading when I go back to tuck her in she is talking to me about the book and asking me questions. This book at the very least has started so good dialogue, and although it contains a lot of things that I have tried to tell my daughter already, because the info is coming from a source other than mom or dad, she is listening. No life changing things happening yet for her, she is still trying to rein in her rage outbursts but we also haven't had any 1 hr tantrums again yet either.

A friend recommended this book along with "The Care and Keeping of You" book. Both have a wealth of knowledge and my 10 year old has really benefited from reading them. So have I. Nice refresher on what our girls go thru as they mature.

Another book from the American Girl series that addresses awkward feelings that young girls have as they mature and start through puberty. It helps them understand the feelings are a normal part of growing up and helps them navigate the different array of feelings and emotions they go through.

My 9 year old daughter loves this book! She seems to be less upset by trivial things since she read this and she refers back to it often. I think she understands her emotions more now having read this.

The American Girl series of books is phenomenal. I got this book for my daughter when she was 9 and having difficulty managing her emotions. She read it cover to cover and it really helped. She revisited this particular book again and again and again.

This is a great book. It is positive and straight forward. I also have The Care and Keeping of You and my daughter has benefitted from them. I put them out and she read them when she wanted to. Great way to start dialog with your daughters about growing up.

My daughter is 9 and has problems understanding her feelings and dealing with them sometimes. I got her this book hoping it would help her to control herself no matter her feelings. And to know how to make it through those feelings. She picked it up along with a pencil and immediately started filling in the pages. This in my book is a great buy.

My 3rd grade daughter is loving this book. She can't wait to get in bed and start reading before bedtime, and she enjoys discussing the book with me, which is fantastic. I highly recommend this book.
