I enjoyed reading this book especially the surprise ending. It took me a few chapters to get into the flow of the book but that is not unusual for me. I just found it to be rather slow at the beginning.

Maybe the author was thinking of a Big Little Lies sort of thing. A group of mothers who all have a back story but I found myself not caring about any of them. I can’t believe this got such good reviews. The big reveal wasn’t even surprising because ai wasn’t invested. It was disappointing.

Sorry. The idea was there but it was poorly executed. It was also so very predictable. The dialogue was rambling. No character fleshed out so that the reader could relate or would want to relate to any character. A tedious read.

Premise and overall writing was good, however there were many times I found myself confused and re-reading paragraphs that ultimately left me wondering what the author was talking about. Reminded me of
Gone Girl, without the surprises and suspense. Would have been totally okay not reading this book.
Trust me, save your time and money and move on to something else.

Not sure I agree that this is a psychological thriller. A baby is missing but this wasn't a book that kept me on the edge of my seat eagerly awaiting the next twist and turn. I found it to be a bit slow at times but enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first half. As the back stories of the May mothers are revealed, I felt more of an understanding of each of them. I felt that the "today's advice" at the beginning of each chapter was not necessary.
The ending was a surprise to me so I enjoyed that and am looking forward to seeing how this plays out on screen with Kerry Washington.

No character development so it is hard to tell one character from another, particularly as they are all cartoonish 1950s stick figures. The story is alleged to take place in Brooklyn but there is so little sense of place that in fact the story might as well as have taken place in any American suburb rather than the hippest part of the hippest city on earth. The plot is at the same time confusing and totally predictable. It would be great to get money back for such disappointing books.

I think twisty thrillers are very much having a moment in the book world. With the success of books like Big Little Lies, The Couple Next Door, The Wife Between Us, and other books, along come The Perfect Mother. A book that, even before it's released, already had the movie rights bought and will star Kerry Washington.
Overall, I thought that the book was pretty good. The writing was strong and Aimee Molloy had me turning pages to see what would happen next. There are lots of twists and usually I'm good with guessing the endings on thrillers, but this one I didn't. I would definitely read more from this author.
I would absolutely recommend this to any fans of the thriller genre. A great summer beach read.
