The writing style changes slightly in this installment, but that may be a result of the fact that the setting is entirely different than the first novels of the series. It also gives the feeling that Flavia is starting to grow up a little more which adds a new dimension to her character to draw you in. Can't wait for the next one!

Alan Bradley never disappoints!! Flavia again falls into another mystery of dead bodies, and the questionable circumstances that took their lives. She uses her 12 year old sleuthing abilities to get the job done. Again,

After preordering this title, I awaited its publication with baited breath. As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust was as wonderful as expected. Flavia's adventures in Canada ended with an unexpected twist. Now I must wait impatiently for the next volume. Hopefully, it won't be a long wait.

Fantastic book. I've read some complaints about this one as being 'disappointing' compared to the others, but I think it ties in very well with the rest of the series. Her character has 'grown up' a little, and not only because she is now 12, but because she is experiencing a new life in a boarding school away from all that is familiar to her. Looking forward to the next one :-)

Alan Bradley can do no wrong in regards to Flavia DeLuce! Her year at school can almost feel uneven, but it all works out wonderfully well in the end. Look for the quote on how then she will be Einstein!

Flavia de Luce is not quite herself in this installment of the quirky adventures of the girl scientist. Some plot elements were such red herrings that they may be foreshadowings of future novel plots. We shall have to wait to find out.

Whenever I get attached to a series or character, I know that there's a pretty good chance that there will be a disappointing book along the way. With luck, it will get better again. If not, I lose interest and stop reading them. Have been through it with some of my MOST favorites (like Jack Reacher and Stephanie Plum) and with luck, it's just a bump in the road and gets back on track with the next book.

As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust appears to be the one that's going to be that possible turning point for Flavia de Luce.

I have loved all the Flavia books, and couldn't wait for this one to arrive. But she leaves her family, friends and home for an entirely new situation, which is unfortunately just doesn't work for me. At home she has a family and friends - quirky, well-developed characters that I find fascinating and want to get to know better. In Canada, they all seem pretty one-dimensional and I ended up not even caring whodunit. I'm pretty sure that in a week or two, I'll forget most of the characters and probably even who the killer was.

Alan Bradley is still a terrific writer - setting scenes, letting us into Flavia's mind, keeping us guessing about what's going on. So I'm definitely not sorry I read it. And since I plan to give it another try with the next book, it's important to have read this one so I'm still on track with what Flavia has been through. Just hoping that this was just a bump in the road and the de Luces will be will be back together soon, as before.

Another A Plus for Flavia. In this latest book, we're taken across the pond to Canada and see what Flavia does away from her home. A true fish out of water. Cannot wait for the next installment. Good, clean fun.

Does not disappoint. If you like the whole British native experience (for want of a better expression) and hark back to a more innocent time but with murder and mayhem nevertheless, this is one for you!

Incredible series about an 11 year-old who is part innocent child and part diabolical chemical progeny. Started with "Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" but every book has been delightful. Part mystery, part humor, part nostalgic (set in post WWII Britain), and totally delightful. Cannot recommend highly enough!

I have always enjoyed Flavia's adventures but this one was particularly good! Fast paced and so interesting...her quandary at being sent off to boarding school familiar and endearing. Her ability to make the best of what she sees as a bad lot, refreshing and fun.

Can't wait for the next book!

Well done Alan Bradley!

Another winner from Alan Bradley. We love Flavia and these very entertaining stories. So fun to be introduced to a whole new cast of characters. Surprised that she is returning to Buckshaw but eagerly looking forward to the next book!

Flavia solves another one. Bradley does not disappoint. We get to hear a little more of her education in the art of enjoying pheasant sandwiches, but many still unanswered questions. Can't wait to read the next installment. This was worth the cost and an evenings reading.

Nominally an adolescent book, this, like the rest of the series, has the capability of drawing in an adult audience: plots and character development are key. In this book the character of Flavia is probably most complex, in part due to her separation from family.

Flavia De Luce is delightful! The mystery is fine, but seeing through her eyes is the really fun part! Can't help wondering as the series goes on if Flavia will grow older? What will she become as she matures? There are more and more complications in store for Flavia and for us! Can't wait to read!

I love this series. So enjoyable. Macabre enough to intrigue without being too gruesome to dismiss. The humor made me laugh out loud more than once. Flavia de Luce is easy to love and hard to let go when the book is done. Can't wait for the next one!

Flavia continues to use her brilliant mind and unique way of looking at things to solve a mystery, this time across the Atlantic in Canada. Though different from the other books which are set in her native England, it still has charm and details that prove Flavia to be the best of sleuths.
