I really enjoy reading series. I like following characters from one book to the next and so I own quite a few sets of books by different authors. This was one book that I was looking forward to reading and I was just not impressed. When I really enjoy a book, I find that there are parts that I want to go back and reread, and this book just didn't have any of those. Not to mention that there was no just cause to mention another authors fashion sense in the book. It was ridiculously rude to bring up Anita Blake or her author other then just plain ugly ways. I have read ALL of the Anita Blake books, have enjoyed every last one of them and am super excited about the next one coming out. Needless to say, I'm not real interested in the next House of Night novel.

Good book ; continues to unfold Zoey Redbird's saga about fledging vampyres. Just wish she was not so fickled re: boys! 17 she may be, but she sure doesn't know her mind at all! She does have some committment issues!
The vendor service was fast and I exactly what I expecteed form the info given on the store! Good job!

(Some spoilers....)

Sigh. Through 3/5 of the book, I wanted to rip out all of the unneeded pages (aka Zoey Zoey Zoey.....) SHE. IS. SUCH. AN. IDIOT. She thinks, "So Stark and I had done it." Yes, Zoey. We read it in your last chapter. We are not idiots.
Sure, parts of her P.O.V. story were necessary, such as near the end, when Stark talks about not sleeping well. Not being a sleeping issue, the reader finds out Kalona can influence Stark.

Reading Neferet's P.O.V. was really interesting. I love Neferet's character, way more than any of the main characters, (except for Rephaim and Stevie Rae) because she seemed to be explained more and the reader actually knew what was going on in her head. Zoey's continuous circle of "I love Stark. I wanna be Queen! My friends need me... Repeat." If only Zoey was better-crafted as a character.

Stevie Rae and Rephaim are probably the best characters in the series so far. Their love story is something completely unrealistic, which I suppose makes it all the better. But the character development is just really nice, especially for Rephaim as he struggles between his father's bidding and his love for the Imprinted Red Vampyre.

Last, but certainly not least, the number of books in the whole entire series/saga/whatever. There are EIGHT BOOKS. And it's only about 3 months through all 8. Zoey is a 3rd former, and has four more years to go at the House of Night. At this rate, Zoey is not even going to be a fourth former by the time she saves the world. WHY IS THIS GOING SO SLOWLY? Having Zoey as a "QUEEN" now, plus being the most powerful FLEDGLING High Priestess, just seriously pissed me off. Couldn't she at least get some training, see if she was worthy (and she's not except for those elements next to her) for these supposedly noble and amazing roles. That might at least kill some time in the story!

If the next one is as disappointing as this one, I'm gonna delete it off of my Kindle and, even if I don't get my money back, I'll regret the time I read book 8 and all of those hours I read #s 5-8.

Finally, I really wanted to love this book. I thought this would be the last or second to last book (<--let's hope Destined is the final one!) so I eagerly grabbed it. After having so many problems, I had to give it 1 star, and that's being nice. The good points were very miniscule, very small, but there, and are hard to find. But if you love these books, borrow it from the library to save the money, it really isn't worth it, I'm sad to say.

In the popular teenage vampire genre the House of Night series stands out. The main character is strong, and rolls with the punches. She doesn't back down, and she doesn't think she's underserving of all good forture (which I like most). If you're going to read a teenage vamp novel, THIS is the series.

I purchased this book for my grand daughter to read who insisted on reading the series "in order...because, I LOVE them!" I personally didn't read the book but she, "...can't wait" for the next two in the series to come out so she can read them also. If that isn't an endorsement for good reading I don't know what is.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the books in this House of Night Series. P. C. and Kristin Cast are excellent and keep you interested throughout. I cannot wait until the next book of the series is released! I definitely recommend these books.

The 2nd book in the house of night series, Betrayed shipped super fast. It's in great condition, except for one small flaw. The cover doesn't lay flat bec it is a little bent, but I would have done that any way while reading it, so it was kinda like it was already broken in for me. :o)

I absolutely love the house of night series and this book didn't let me down! I was thrilled when I finally got my copy in the mail and very disappointed to reach the end of the book. It felt like it went by so fast!

The authors have fallen into the money trap. The House of Night series started off promising and, for YA books, beguiling. I particularly loved the openminded acceptance in regards to the wide variety of lives, loves, spiritual relationships, family dynamics, etc. of all the main characters. Their quirks were endearing and their individual aims and purposes were explored in nuance. The bad guys were really awful and diabolical. Neferet's turn to the dark side was played out well and left even me wondering what to believe about her because she played her cards so close to her robes. In short, I did enjoy the first half of the series as a unique bit of escapism.

Alas, somewhere around book 6, I think the writers phoned it in. This book, Awakened, is an excellent example of the Cast's new writing philosophy: keep writing $18 books in a popular series, but don't add a dang thing to the plot so the readers will keep buying the next one HOPING Zoey & Stark, Aphrodite & Darius, Stevie Rae & Rephaim, and Damien et al. will get their acts together and kick the bad chick and her cohort's butt.

Unfortunately, a conclusion to this series is nowhere in sight. The main characters simply do not evolve with the possible exception of Rephaim - the only person who still interests me. I'm astounded by the lack of development in language, manners, and reverence these teenagers have towards their Goddess and the hierarchies of their professors and the Vampyre High Council. The main protagonists stumble along like willfully illiterate ignoramuses instead of WANTING to take the time to learn the proper etiquette, speech patterns, and social import due their elders and their vampyre culture as a whole. 'Tis particularly galling considering that both Zoey and Stevie Rae are High Priestesses in their own rights. I think two whole new things happened in this book and they both occurred over the space of m a y b e 3 paragraphs each. No build up. Just, here you go, something a little different but not at all relevant to the plot at large(?).

"Pulse-pounding 8th book"? Puh-leaze. If this sloppy bit of lazy writing gets your pulse pounding, um, I'm sorry for you. If you are interested in mythically based high schools, I happily recommend the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Meade (that is a page-turner of a series!) and the new Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep. I stumbled upon the Mythos series because Estep's "Elemental Assassin" books are addictive and impossible to put down. Estep's protagonist Gin Blanco, a.k.a. the Spider, the most powerful Elemental of her time has a deep, intricate, and highly-charged tale of righteous revenge designed for adults, but I like Jennifer Estep's style so much that I'd read anything by her. Estep's foray into the YA market beginning with "Touch of Frost" did not disappoint in the slightest. Unlike the Cast's series, into which I will be delving no longer. :::yawn:::

Constructive criticism for the Casts: each book in a series should build up the world of the story and characters ought to evolve and become more than who they were in book one. Literary stagnation is nothing but a fetid algae ridden pond with the sludge of laziness as its murky bottom. I know you can write so much better than this. I loved the Parthalon series and "Elphame's Choice" is on my comfort shelf. I beg you rise and be the writers I once knew and admired.
