Very entertaining. Written with enough science and military language to make it realistic but not over whelming. Good character development and plenty of action. The balance of the series is the same. "Good Read".

Wonderful book. Want to read all of his books. Smooth creation of the development of the story. I have been reading science fiction for 50 yrs. and I enjoyed this book more than so many others. Thank you.

Enjoyed the story line thoroughly; I especially liked the references made to the old NASA programs that were integrated into the story line. The story moved along quite well and keeps the reader engrossed throughout.
The way the author ends the story is a cliff hanger and keeps the reader thinking, what if. I look forward to the next installment and I am sure it will be just as engrossing.

It is a good book overall. The problem though arises from the sheer amount of tedious details which are never ending that the author seems to
think are of the utmost importance. It could have been a truly great book if he had skipped half of all the technical crap that no one cares about and stuck to moving the story along!
If the author is reading this, my thoughts are that you are a smart guy, but just need to work on making things much more fast paced and
further develop your inner-editor. Anything that slows the story down should probably get the backspace button. Other than that, keep up the good work, but remember, more editing and faster pace...

I really enjoyed this book and regret that the sequel isn't available NOW. If it were, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I found Mission One to be a well-written book that really kept my attention, and also brought up some interesting thoughts about how close we seem to be to this sort of mission occurring in real time, like a few years from now.

This is an interesting and imaginative story. Worth reading, however, it ended too quickly and left too many unanswered questions. It is setting up for a sequel. Characterization is overall quite good but Frank's breakdown is a little iffy. Also, I can't imagine the lack of gov't involvement or the competition getting the jump on DA without anyone knowing, you can't just build a spaceship and sneak it off of earth. Interesting and enjoyable nevertheless, sci-first, read it.

I couldn't get past the first few chapters! Cardboard characters in some unspecified future in which everyone in the book acts and talks like they're in the 1960's. Describing the writing as "ham-fisted" would probably be an understatement. Bypass this book and read something by Ben Bova instead!

Mission One (Kindle Edition) by Samuel Best
Not one of the better books I've read lately. The author is a decent story teller, but needs to do more research on how a crewed launch works. Also some of the plot points were decidedly flat, and felt contrived. The characters were okay, but not v very well fleshed out.
That said, I did read it to the end, so it wasn't horrible.
