Seriously, who wrote this? Because five chapters in, it reads like someone's first novel. There's been at least six occurrences where as a reader the author is telling us something, instead of showing. The real Jennifer Ashley left those mistakes behind years ago. Completely unlike any other book in the series. I don't mind the departure in terms of the approach, the setting, etc. – as long as it's written well. This is not.

This is a new one. The relationship starts 15 years in and after 1 child. It just didn't have the same oomph as the other books in the series. My favorite book is still the one with Sean. I just didn't really feel the main characters had much chemistry. I just didn't really care if they stayed together. The guy was very predictable and very run of the mill alpha male. The girl was okay as well. They just didn't feel special. The plot felt a bit recycled too. Still a mediocre book by Jennifer Ashley is still 3 times better than the best book my many other authors. A good read just not a great read compared to the rest of the books in the series.

DNF~ No rating.

This will be a short review because this was my first DNF for the year. I was looking forward to this book, unfortunately it was less than steller or maybe it was just me. My main issue was that both the hero Bowman O’Donnell and heroine Kenzie are mates, they became mates out of convenience though from the start it was obvious that Kenzie was in love with Bowman before they became mates and they also have a child what they dont have, is a mate bond. When I started reading the book I thought that the achieving of the mate bond would be the whole point of the story which it was, just not what I expected and not in a good way either.

The book starts of with the guy figuring out that some new groupie is not here to mingle so he leads her on, takes her outside and exposes himself to her later and this was in the first chapter. I was immediately turned off/ disgusted from Bowman, especially more so when I found that he has a child and it just argh why I mean, what was the point of that scene. Did it show his commitment to his mate? no Did it show that he loves and respects his mate who by the way he knew was following him? no.

I tired to get past all the this but it kept bugging me than there was fighting and some kicking ass to this weird shape shifter creature and then they are back at home where’s theres jealousy first from Bowman and then Kenzie and then they have sex and all through everything that has happened they both thinking that the don’t have the mate bond which made me sad especially because kenzie was so upset but didn’t want to show her feelings of disappointment.

Then Kenize meets this guy from the police who is interested in her this leads to Kenize suspecting that she might be feeling the mate bond towards him. By this point I was done, I really dislike love triangles and I just not feeling the book, the characters and I felt that Kenize deserved a lot better mate than Bowman. I didn’t feel like he loved her at all. I skimmed some to get a general idea of what was happening or what happened at the end but I sort just meh about it all. This was a bummer, hopefully the next book in the series is better because I quite enjoy the series and love the authors historicals.

I really cant do short reviews can I? They always end up being normal or even longer length than my usual ones. -_-

: MATE BOND is the seventh full length installment in Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound paranormal romance series. Jennifer Ashley’s shifters are persecuted and discriminated against by the humans but the humans have help in their attempts to bring the shifters under control using collars and segregated towns. This is shifter wolf alpha of the North Carolina Shiftertown Bowman O’Donnell, and his alpha mate Kenzie O’Donnell.

SOME BACKGROUND: Thousands of years in the past ,the Fae created the shifters-a cross between beast and man-and in the ensuing time the Fae lost control and power over the creatures they created. There is a war encroaching-one that will see humans side with the Fae in a battle for dominance, and their first line of defense was to collar and corral the shifters.

Approximately twenty years ago shifters were exposed to the human population. Out of fear, discrimination and specieism, the shifters were collared, in the belief that it would control aggression, then they were forced into segregated communities known as Shiftertowns. There are several Shiftertowns located throughout the world where shifters live in a relative but strained peace amongst their own kind.

Told from third person point of view, MATE BOND follows the search for a monster; a hybrid shifter whose genetic makeup is completely wrong ; a beast of unknown origins who attacked a bar full of shifters with the intent to hurt and kill. Because the beast was found and eventually destroyed on the North Carolina Shiftertown territory, Bowman sets into motion a plan to hunt the person(s) responsible for the abomination but finds himself in a dilemma when more than one supernatural power is discovered in the search.

Bowman O’Donnell is a mated, alpha male but he and his mate Kenzie, as well as most of the North Carolina pack, believe there is no mate-bond holding the couple together. With each sexual encounter, loving touch and even the birth of their son, Kenzie and Bowman hope for the elusive mate-bond to take hold. Kenzie and Bowman’s relationship is highly sexual as are most shifter couples but in this, the lack of a permanent bond ensures that someone else may be their true bonded match. Kenzie and Bowman’s mate-bond plays a major factor in the storyline development.

MATE BOND has an ensemble cast of supernatural and magical characters including shifters, Fae, hybrids, humans and a previously unknown paranormal being. The colorful and complex supporting cast of characters incorporates many of the previous storyline shifters as well as a couple from the Vegas Shiftertown Pack who are called in to help with identifying the beast’s connection to the Fae. We are introduced to Kenzie and Bowman’s twelve year old son Ryan who will one day take over the leadership of the North Carolina Pack; Police Officer Gil whose true identity and purpose is questionable; as well as Kenzie’s Uncle Cristian whose dislike of Bowman is well known by all.

MATE BOND continues to build on the Shifter’s connection to the Fae. There are moments of betrayal and heartbreak; family and love; discrimination and mistrust. Jennifer Ashley seamlessly blends the supernatural with the human world in a series where suspicion and prejudice are at the heart of the series. The shifters are discriminated against for their differences and the fear of the unknown.

MATE BOND is an entertaining and engaging storyline; an enjoyable and thrilling read with imaginative characters and a dramatic theme. The Shifters Unbound series is passionate, sensual, intense and romantic-an intriguing series that is a must read every time.

Bowman and Kenzie's relationship seems pretty unhealthy. Regardless, within the first two chapters, I found myself rooting for them just for Kenzie’s sake.
Bowman, as the Shiftertown leader, mated with his enemy's niece Kenzie to ease tension in the town. For 15 years, their mating provides stability for the community but behind closed doors, Bowman literally disappears when things get too emotional and frequently directly after sex. When he returns, their conversations are always town business related instead of addressing their relationship issues. It is unclear whether he cheats or not. Within the first 10 pages, he drops his pants behind the bar to offer a shifter groupie to go down on him. He tells Kenzie he knew she wouldn’t and just wanted to scare her off, knowing Kenzie was around the corner the entire time. It is heartbreaking that Kenzie, while a strong woman, supportive spouse and praiseworthy leader, seems to walk on eggshells afraid he’ll shut down or storm off.
While we find out they truly seem to love each other, their mating lacks the coveted mate bond. At any moment, either could form a mate bond with another, dissolving their mating. She lives in constant fear of this and later on in the book Bowman admits the same to her.
Before mating, they knew each other for five years, going out of their ways to make each other jealous. Bowman sexed everybody up even though he says he pretty much wanted her the second he laid eyes on her.
Loved the book, but taking 15 years to form a mate bond (which finally happened in the last couple of chapters) was depressing and their extremely perceptive 12-year-old son picked up on every tension in their relationship, which was even more depressing.

Oh book noms! Mate Bond was tasty! Loved every second of being in one of my favorite shifter worlds. And Mate Bond was a shiftery good time. Lots of growling, teasing, some hot loving, mystery and danger and best of all...cubs!!! *squeals* Yall know I love me some shifter cubs. It was definitely working for me as things move to North Carolina and Bowman and his mate Kenzie head off against a mystery monster rampaging in their woods.

Okay so Bowman and Kenzie. Ahhh couple love! These two have been together for like 15 years. They're from different packs and mated to keep peace in their Shifter town. I just loved that they had that history and knew each other so damn well. They were sexy and hilarious together. Pushed buttons and knew just how to get each other fired up in and out of the bedroom.

They really tugged at my heart. They're in love. Their lives revolve around each other and their cub but they have such a struggle because they've never found that elusive "mate bond" that's magical and so desired by Shifters. And it was heart breaking watching them deal with the hope of finding it and having it dashed time and time again. I loved watching them deal and be there for each other no matter the crazy and scary surrounding them though. They're just awesome people too. Bowman was growly and sexy and such a good dad and Kenzie...totally kick ass female. She's tough and sassy and, yeah, badass.

The danger and adventure, as always, was exciting, frustrating and had me all fired up. This Shifter town gets the hell beat out of it. They take a serious pounding as they try to figure out where the monster came from and how to deal with it. There was a lot of action a couple curious arrivals and a damn impressive showdown.

All in all, Jennifer Ashley simply writes the best Shifters and Mate Bond was a killer addition to the series. Sexy, action packed and full of humor, love and incredible heart. One of my favorite things about this series is the the towns and all of the various pack and clan members. Wolves, Cats, Bears...they stick together, fight together, celebrate together. They might have some squabbles now and again but they're just a great community and group and I want to know more about ALL of them. *fingers crossed*

Bowman and Kenzie are wolf shifters, have been mated for 15 years, they have one cub/pup and they lead their Shiftertown together. Their Shiftertown was made up with different species of shifters, gathered from all over the world. Kenzie’s pack is from the Ukraine, and her uncle Cristian is its Alpha. Cristian is not happy with the fact that the humans made Bowman the town’s leader, after all he had been leading his pack for much longer. The fact that Kenzie and Bowman have never developed the mating bond between them gives him hope that someday his beloved niece will fall for someone else and he can defeat Bowman and take over.
But although Kenzie and Bowman don’t show it, they deeply love each other and have eachother’s back whenever necessary.

Like now, in a bar outside Shiftertown, where some woman poses as a wannabe-groupie. They don’t buy the act, and Bowman tries to chase her off. It takes his mate to calm him down enough not to harm the woman. And then, just when they are blowing of some steam in the woods, some monster appears. It smells horrible, is huge and extremely strong. Bowman sends Kenzie back inside to keep the humans and his shifters safe, but he is no match for the monster. Hurt badly, he comes back inside, and it is Kenzie who organizes the rest of the shifters to fight it. They are outclassed though, and no one knows what it is they are fighting. Then Bowman lures it back outside and tries to run it over with Cade’s monster truck. The monster is hurt and runs off, and then just disappears.
Bowman is hurt even worse, so the next morning it is up to Kenzie to lead the shifters back, and try to find a trace of the monster. Just when they find some answers, the police interferes, interrogating Kenzie. But Gil Ramirez is not an ordinary cop, he wants shifter help to find and catch this monster, and Kenzie actually likes him. Still, something is off here.

To find the monster, and catch the one behind it all, Bowman and Cristian will have to work together. When Kenzie goes missing, they will find out the truth about their bond, feeling the legendary mating bond or not…

I love this series so much! I think this is my favourite shifter series of all those I love to read. I like how Kenzie stands up to Bowman every chance she has. She loves him very much and has from the first time she saw him. They are good together, but the lack of the mating bond makes them insecure. What if one of them suddenly develops that bond with another shifter? Or a human? Will they be left behind with a broken heart? The mating bond is supposed to overcome everything. So they are snarky and fighting a lot, but the mating heat is always upon them as well. Kenzie would love to have a house full of cubs, but so far they only have one son. And Ryan sure is a character! He knows he will be the next leader of the town, and he certainly is alpha enough for that. He is very endearing, he loves his parents and very much needs them, but he also says some things way beyond his age, and that is fun. And of course he is fearless.
Bowman was a wild shifter when he and his pack were rounded up and got collared. He is still very much wild, and always close to shifting. It takes Kenzie to calm him down, and keep him from tearing into people. He is a good leader, even though he never wanted the responsibility. And working together with other shifter species, is just not natural, but he has no choice in that either. To keep the peace with Cristian’s pack, he mated with Kenzie. As he has always been very much attracted to her, that was not really a mating of convenience, she was the only mate he ever wanted. But to tell her that? No way! He loves her deeply and is very much afraid of losing her one day.

It was a great story, and I do love to read about couples who are already mated. There are a lot of hot love scenes in this book, but the emotions between them are so real. I cared for them quickly. The hunt for the bad guy was different en original, and wow he really was a scary character.
And then the mysterious Gil, whom I did not like or trust at all, and who happened to be someone else we already know…

If you haven’t started reading this series and you do like shifters, what are you waiting for? This series is just so good! Even the novella’s in between.

10 stars.

**Book provided by the author for an honest review**

Mate Bond was an interesting twist on a storyline based on a shifter community. The various shifters in this story were forced by the human government to live in "Shifter Towns" in order to keep a close eye on them and keep the masses safe from the very powerful and dangerous creatures, (according to the humans). Each town has a pack leader, and Bowman of the North Carolina Shifter Town is the focal point of this book. I have never read any of the books in this series, but it can be a stand alone book.

It was love at first sight for Bowman and Kenzi, so why the mate bond has eluded them is beyond anyone's understanding. After several years together and a cub, Ryan, they are as passionate about each other as the first day of the mating frenzy, but are deathly afraid of not having experienced the undeniable feeling of the mate bond. While they are constantly struggling with this, an unknown creature comes into town looking for a fight. The hunt is on to try and figure out what the hell that thing is and find out where it came from! The sleuthing involved was intriguing. The background of the relationships and development of the shifter towns and characters was very entertaining.

During the course of the investigation, we are given the history of how the shifters were born, who bred them, and the nasty evil that tore them from their homes. I really enjoyed this part of the story. However, what I found quite annoying, which is how my potential 5 star rating came to be 3, is that the constant mention and worry over this mate bond and the hatred Bowman and Cristian have for one another. Every single time Bowman and Cristian were in the same space it was a pissing contest! As for Bowman and Kenzi, my GOD! For two people who've had the hots for each other from day one and have mind blowing sex to this day, how could you be so blind! I get what the author was going for here, really I do, but it overshadowed the plot of the story a bit for me. On a high note, the ending was fantastic! I can and will recommend this book, only if you can stand some repetitiveness over the main characters' worrisome mate bond issue.

Jennifer Ashley's Shifters Unbound series is fast becoming one of my favorites in the paranormal romance genre. Her latest book Mate Bond is ultimately my favorite of the series so far. Readers who looking for a mature romance, with couple who has been married for some time will love this one. Bowman and Kenzie may have a wonderful relationship but they do not share the mate bond that will keep them together forever. Their struggle to find an illusive foe hinges on their relationship and readers won't be able to put it down for a minute. A great addition to the series!

Ohhhh, I really liked this one! Jennifer Ashley is sooo good at world building. In Mate Bond readers get to see what the North Carolina pack's Shiftertown is like. We have seen other Shiftertown's in previous books, but this one was really interesting. If you are unfamiliar with the series, a Shiftertown is kind of like an Indian Reservation. The shifters have been forced to live in these towns away from the human population. Each one is unique and I loved learning about the Bowman and Kenzie's town. Ashley never ceases to amaze when it comes to her mythology and world building, it's one of the best parts of this series.

I liked the fact that this book wasn't a boy meets girl and falls in love story. Kenzie and Bowman have been together for a long time and even have a son, Ryan, who will one day lead the pack. It was a marriage of convenience that united the dissident parts of the pack, but it turned into something more. It is obvious that this couple loves each other very much, but they have yet to form the elusive mate bond that will ensure that they will be together forever. I liked the maturity of the story here. There problems were a lot more dynamic and deep than the problems a reader generally finds with a new relationship. I thought that was a great idea for the book and loved how it worked out.

Kenzie and Bowman are up against a really devious villain and the things he does are simply gut wrenching. He made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. That part of the book was cleverly put together and I think readers who like a story with substance will really find this one up their alley. This guy was a real piece of work and the way the hero and heroine solve the problems that comes with the bad guy was simply awe inspiring. I loved that part!

The romance is hot and steamy in this one and it seemed completely natural. You have two alpha shifters, which is a volatile combination in the first place. They have a lot of passion in and out of the bedroom and readers who like a little heat will not be disappointed. Ashley seems to really understand the kind of aggressive and fierce relationship that needs to happen in this kind of shifter society. Very well done.

Bottom Line:

This is my favorite book in the series so far. I am becoming a huge fan of this author and I think anyone who loves a good were story will fall in love with this one. Kenzie and Bowman were a mature couple with mature problems and I liked the fact that they knew exactly where they stood with each other. The romance was hot, the action was fast and readers will just have to hold on for dear life. A great new book from a very talented author.

Fair warning, there may be spoilers, either for the previous 6 stories or this one. This is the point in the series where I don’t know how to do this any other way.

Jennifer Ashley turned the feels up to 11. While I knew she would never pull a J.R. Ward, I was emotionally invested in this couple in a way that does not happen often for me, I felt anxiety, and heartbreak and despair, and of course joy. Previous books in this series I read for the fun and smexy times. I enjoyed them but was starting to have some doubts with the last book Wild Wolf, but this one took it to another level.

Bowman and Kenzie’s relationship hurt them, mating for 15 years without ever feeling the mating bond. Always fearing the other would bond with someone else, and that would take away the person they love most. And I hurt right there with them.

“You think I can stand knowing any second you could walk away from me and I wouldn't be able to stop you?” His fingers bit down. “That if you feel the mate bond with another male, you’ll go-and you won’t care? Do you know what that does to me?”

Bowman released her to put his hands to his chest, digging into his sweatshirt. “It tears me up inside, right here. It messes with me until I can’t sleep, or think, or feel anything but wanting to grab you and keep you with me no matter what. I’m f---ed up because every time you smile at another male, it f---s me up even more. So have a little pity, all right, Kenz? You’re killing me-a little bit every day.”

Shades of Nalini Singh's Tangle of Need anyone? Only this time it is the man who has to bare his heart, who has the fear of having it all ripped away.

There is this lovely push and pull in their relationship, they’re a couple who knows each other so well, they function as a team and each brings balance to the other, and the smexy times are hot. But as a couple they are just so loving. I think this may be the most romantic story I’ve read all year. I was so glad to see Jennifer Ashley go back to a more relationship driven story.

That's not to say the overall story arc and world building has been dropped. Not at all. I'd say it has been refined and refocused in a really excellent way. Disparate story lines that we thought weren't connected suddenly make sense. Characters I wasn't too sure about now have their place. It is just very cohesive. In the midst of tracking mythical monsters and rooting out the enemy, Bowan’s mate and cub are taken, and clarity comes to the soul. Feelings are admitted, and a wider conspiracy is revealed.

I just loved it really. Typically the fated mates trope seems like a short cut, or a cop out. But here it worked, it was something to be worked around, or worked within, or some sort of reward. The way these two navigated the issue just fit for me. When we met Bowman previously, I did not much care for him, but being in his head was amazing. And man, Kenzie just rocked.

Bowman & Kenzie’s relationship is near impossible to put into words; they got married to unite Shiftertown, but never formed a metaphysical connection even after fifteen years together, and a cub. The romance had a forbidden fruit / dead spark feel to it, however not because they can’t keep their hands off of each other, and live in constant fear of forming a link with someone else. Needless to say, it’s complicated, and that’s what made their story so gut-wrenchingly emotional. And, I haven’t even touched on the plot, action, or secondary characters yet! Yes lovelies, MATE BOND is in the running for my top werewolf read of 2015.

This was only my second encounter with Jennifer Ashley’s writing, and I was reminded once again why I NEED to one-click the rest of her SHIFTERS UNBOUND series ASAP. The world-building is top shelf, there’s an assortment of weres to fan-girl over—I’m partial to the wolves—and the dynamics between pack members, couples, and outsiders are exceptional. The author smoothly fuses humour, romance, and adrenaline while also going above and beyond in areas such as pop culture references, and mythology. I enjoyed the Guardian tidbits, and the DRESDEN FILES & IRON DRUID CHRONICLES hollas were just straight-up fun.

The protagonists are going to tie you up in knots with their crisis-of-the-heart, so brace yourselves for waterworks! Shifters place the mate bond above all things, and because Bowman & Kenzie have yet to form one, it’s expected that they call it quits if ever they find it with another. Both of them are tested in this book, and I was furiously cursing Ashley at certain points while mentally preparing myself for an ugly cry free-for-all. I loved the two leads, and how the author drove me into becoming wholeheartedly invested in the final outcome.

I liked how far reaching the story was from Ryan’s challenges as the son of an alpha, to Cristian’s problems with no longer being head honcho, and Gil Ramirez’s battle to find happiness. The villain’s depravity knew no bounds, just when I thought that his deviousness had reached its max, he pushed the envelope even further, and the last blow was godawful. Every minor thread was as all-consuming as the central plot was which made this novel seem as though it was superglued to my hands because I couldn’t pry it from my fingers.

MATE BOND was ahh-wooooooo-some!

Mate Bond by Jennifer Ashley

A little about the Story:
Mate Bond is part of the Shifters Unbound Series. This Story surrounds Bowman and Kenzie. They felt something for each other at first glance but their Mating was that of convenience, cementing the leadership. They would do anything to protect one another as well as everyone in Shiftertown. With something trying to kill them, they fight hard side by side to do just that.

Lena's Opinion
Pros: The Story line itself was a good one. Paranormal romance mixed with a "Who done it". You get to know the characters intimately and can feel their desire, love and fear throughout the book. The teasing and banter between Bowman and Kenzie always had me smiling.

Cons: I get the Title is Mate Bond but I feel it was brought up a little too often for my taste. It seemed to be the main focus, even with something trying to kill them. The story also didn't pick up until the middle of the book, making the beginning a little slow.

As I said, This Story was a good one, and even though it is apart of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. If you like Shifter Reads, you should add this one to your TBR.

I give this book 3 Stars☆☆☆

First Thought when Finished: Mate Bond by Jennifer Ashley is now my favorite in the series. Would have never guessed that going in but WOW what a story!

Quick Thoughts: You know that moment when you could just say "NAILED IT" in a review and it would encompass all you feel? That is me with Mate Bond. It is no secret that I pretty much binged this series this year. Mate Bond was the cream of the crop! The fact that Jennifer could take Bowman and make him lovable to me was just amazing. She found the perfect female for him and their story just gelled. PLUS: all the overall storyline push forward! It was shifter heaven for me and I hate that I am caught up. Hold me NOW!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Cris Dukehart / Length: 10 hrs and 25 mins

This is the first one in the series that I have listened too. Chris did a pretty darn good job. I would have liked a little bit more "alpha" male sounding but otherwise pacing/emotions were nailed!

Final Thoughts:Why did I have to catch up!

Mate Bond is the story of the North Carolina shiftertown leader Bowman, and his mate Kenzie. Though their mating was arranged to keep peace in the shiftertown it has turned into a strong, devoted union devoid of nothing… except the elusive ‘mate bond.’ A mate bond is the magical twining of souls that signifies that the shifter has found their one true mate. Yet despite how committed Bowman and Kenzie are to each other and their shiftertown they’ve never felt the stirrings of what shifters seek above all else.

This book is equally heart-breaking, gripping, and infuriating, as it is heart-warming, hilarious and enticing!

I LOVE books that are about established couples--stories that chronicle the challenges that follow the vows, taking us past the honeymoon stage and into their HEA. Kenzie and Bowman still have that can’t-get-enough-of-you chemistry even after 15 years together, and they are so in-tune with one another that they can communicate without speaking. They belong together. It makes it cruel that they don’t have a mate bond, especially since the possibility exists that they could each find it with someone else—should that happen the other is expected to step aside. Imagine building a life with someone, being completely head over heels for them, being that entwined and knowing that at any time some stranger could just cross your mate’s path, awaken their mate bond and you’d be forced to step aside. Can you imagine that kind of anguish? No fighting for your marriage, no discussion or negotiation, just “sorry, you’re time is up” and move on.

Yet despite not having the coveted mate bond Kenzie & Bowman are deeply devoted to one another, they live in the moment, relishing in the connection they have and making the most of every moment together. They may want that bond fiercely but whether or not it ever forms they’ve decided to hang their hat on the ‘til death do us part’ idea of being mates. Reading this story you can’t help but want they type of relationship they have. Even in the face of danger they are united; even with the fear of someday being forced apart they don’t shy away from the intensity of their feelings for the other. It’s the perfect mix of high-octane chemistry and comfortable stability.

The pair faces multiple dangers and uncertainties, from those wanting to expose them, to study them, to those wanting to ‘enhance’ upon them and use them for nefarious purposes, to the mysterious monster that seems to want nothing more than to destroy them. They face all that with unwavering faith and courage, until their worst fear seems possible.

There are times that you get a little irritated with how hung up they both are on the mate bond, and you end up having to remind yourself just what it means in their society to have it. You have to remind yourself how impermanent their entire relationship is in its absence. Every time you do you end up feeling this rush of helplessness and grief, even though together they’re perfect for one another (and know it). Jennifer Ashley’s wicked self waits until you get to that place to shift focuses, then when you hit the pinnacle of anxiety or excitement she shifts again. I found myself calling out in exasperation and frustration just as much as I was laughing (a regular occurrence). While not my favorite book in the series (I believe that is a 3 way tie presently) it was a worthwhile and necessary chapter in the saga.

As a long-time fan and Shifters Unbound addict I find myself wondering at the conclusion of each book what she’s going to come up with for the next book. What fanatical foe awaits in the next book and how ever they’re going to top them. I am always equally as anxious for the next installment of this series as I am for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series! With that being said I can’t wait for Broderick’s story and for her to make me adore a character that I barely tolerate presently!!

If you're reading Mate Bond, you're probably familiar with the alternate world in the Shifters Unbound series. I'm going to go with that idea.

Most of the books in this series follow the typical romantic story line of a couple meeting, falling in love, and developing the mate bond.
Bowman & Kenzie's story is different. They are already madly, passionately in love. They've been together for 15 years and have a son.
There's plenty of action and sex and drama, and all the joys we expect from JA by now, but what I really LOVED was the love story.
Because they haven't developed the mate bond, Kenzie & Bowman live in constant fear that they will be separated when one of them feels the bond with the other. I cannot tell you how much I loved this different perspective. They know each other's quirks, all the little things married couples know, and how to tease the other to distraction. And neither of them is about to let the other go. :)
I loved their interactions and how Bowman dealt with his in laws.

I was sure that I'd be ready to go back to Austin as soon as the book was over, but now I'm itching to see what's going on in NC!

I have read almost all of Ashley's Shifter Unbound books. I love them all, but this one by far is my favorite. It was so unpredictable. I put it up there with Tiger's story as far as the unpredictability goes. She had me feeling so many different emotions right from the jump. It was so different in that Kenzie and Bowman are an established couple. However, because it was a marriage of convenience it seemed as though the couple was missing something. This book was so good that there were a couple of times when I put it down in frustration or fear of the possible outcomes. Of course I picked it right back up though because I had to know. I'm so glad I did. I absolutely loved it!

Anyone that knows Jennifer Ashley knows that she's fabulous. Her work is phenomenal. Mate Bond surpasses that. Granted yes its a part of the Shifters series but it stands alone on the edges of our familiar area and can be read as a standalone even though we get some glimpses of previous favs. I had to give the mad props to Jen because she managed to create a political relationship and allows us to look in on what it took for Kenzie and Bowman to really grow on one another. I liked that. I liked that the relationship wasn't instantaneous and automatic, I liked that they had to work on it. I felt Jennifer handled that very well and appropriately. Kenzie and Bowman are fantastic examples of mature characters actually handling themselves like adults learning how to make it work as they grew together. Mate Bond was fantastic. I loved it.

REVIEW:
I loved this installment of the Shifters Unbound series. It added a different perspective with the addition of the ‘monster’ and another character that keeps you guessing until the end. I really couldn’t figure out what tightened my chest more, the love and hot romance or the danger that surrounded them. This book was a great blending of people you come to love, care about people you didzn’t really like and hate the bad guys. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride.

Different then the others in the series, this story is of the North Carolina Swiftertown leaders Bowman and Kenzie. They been matted for years but their have something that everyone they know has but they never developed their mate bond until now. Kenzie pack is from Transylvania/ Romanian grey wolves and were dropped off in N.C. and Bowman pack from Canada. Each one, Bowman and Kenz are scared in a way to show their true feelings towards one another because they are afraid that either one would find someone else that they show the bonding with and the other will have to walk away from the other. We get to see a could of old facing in this new group, Graham and Reid, but will meet a bunch new unmated shifters that might be having their future stories.

Bowman was made the shiftertown alpha but due to another alpha within shifter town, who was causing problems, Bowman knew he needed a mate and he knew who he wanted Kenzie who is the other alpha's niece.....10 years have passed Bowman & Kenzie had a cub Ryan, The only thing missing in Bowman & Kenzie's life is the mate bond...even though they both feel a coonection to each other it's not the true mate bond that others have talked about......When things start to happen....A monster shifter attacks at the bar where most of shiftertowns residents are enjoying themselves.... with plenty of action a touch of humour will all work out in the end....

wonderful book by wonderful author. love reading all the shifter books by Jennifer. Her stories always keep me on my toes and coming back for more dread having to put book down even for a minute. I am always waiting for the next book to come out even before i get done with one reading. It is a must read book along with the rest of her boos. You don't have to read in order however it does help if you do in my opinion. I have read other books of hers and loved them but have to say this is the best series she has out so far. Again highly recommend reading this book along with rest of series can't go wrong.

North Carolina is added to the SHIFTERS UNBOUND SERIES with MATE BOND Bowman and Kenzie's story. Jennifer Ashley never disappoints and with all the twists and turns I enjoyed this book. Ben know as Gil was in this book and one can only hope he will find his mate someday. BAD WOLF is next on my list. Hope you enjoy this series as much as i do.
