Don't know whether this sort of device is installed in vehicles or plane, it makes a great anti-hijak deterrent . Great story with a different pace, especially knowing now the long road to home and the upcoming encounters.

Lol, ah, no. See A. American Going Home series, he does it right. not a believable plot. characters are not developed, and moms do not carry their pistols behind, too uncomfortable when sitting, painful when falling.

Not the best, but quite good and I’m interested enough to go for book two, so that says something. I like the simplicity as well as the clean writing. Let’s try the next book and see if the story deepens...
Until Morning Comes by JT Sawyer (A Carlie Simmons Post-Apocalyptic Thriller Book 1) :: Dusty's Diary :: Eden Rising (Eden Rising Trilogy Book 1) :: A Post-Apocalyptic Medical Thriller Fiction Series (The Pandemic Series Book 1) :: Broken World: A Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Novel

Written from 2 points of view this series features a "regular guy" scenario. Imagine you just got off a plane on a business trip when the end of the world happens. Well done and builds believable characters.

Evidently the author knows nothing about electricity or electronics. Circuit boards are extremely low voltage devices and short out easily. Fuses in line of every circuit would be destroyed leaving the 12 volt battery isolated. No engineer would ever put an electrical drain on a fuel tank.

The same plot as several other apocalyptical stories. A man is separated by miles from his family when the SHTF and struggles to get home. I would have given it three stars but the author doesn't explain the event other than he rules out an EMP. I guess he wants me to buy part two. I don't think so.

I have been devouring zombie books for the past few years with the popularity of The Walking Dead, etc and I thought this was a zombie book when I bought it. I am very pleasantly surprised and will continue to read the series. It is fast-paced and gripping. Good job Mike!

I couldn't even get past the first chapter... The author is describing things that physically/mechanically/electronically/programmatically can't even happen! Even considering the genre of the book (which is fiction - so give them some wiggle room) this was simply too much. Where's the zero star button?

Very disappointed. Preachy to the point of distraction over the preaching. Also its not a book ........and many of these things are over sold this one sure is. If this is the new way books are sold making ebook's cheap but short just goes along with the dumbing down syndrome we see today. I bought it thinking it would be a book a full sized book that offered something other than the same thing every other writer is offering on the end of the world as we know it zombie world gone mad. While there are no zombies in the book so far, it is dead boring and poorly put together. I don't mind first time writers but this is more like someone thought they could write by copying other writers work but they aren't real writers. Save your money and buy something else.

Different take on the possibilities. Main characters a little bit ostrich, or right winged . Short story at best. Not long enough to be called book but enough excitement to keep your interest and some very good thoughts on preparedness.

An interesting first installment of a new apocalyptic serial made all the more frightening because it feels so plausible. Rick Waters has just arrived in L.A.for a business meeting, having left his wife and three children on their small homestead farm on the outskirts of Ellisville, Virginia, when his hire car radio goes haywire, the engine fails - and he's not alone. Other motorists are in the same position. Then fires start and planes fall out of the sky ...
Based on the question, "What if, overnight, every single device that depends on the internet to function stopped working?", this story does not depend on a major EMP event to bring everything in civilised society crashing down around us, just a sophisticated hacking with malice. Quick and easy to read, this promises to be a worthwhile series. I look forward to part 2.
My thanks to the author from whom I received a free copy in advance of publication

The beginning novella for a series about a power outtage with devastating results. Usual stuff, but I can't get enough of it... if it's done well. The 3 stars I've given represent the fact that the story is good, the suspense and drama is well done. A lot of the bad reviews complain about the length and the feasibility, but those aspects are okay by me; if you don't think a 64 page book is worth the money, don't buy it. Whether it could happen or not, I don't know, and don't care; it's written in such a way that I believed it.

The reason I give it only 3 stars is because of the writing itself. The main character has long, involved talking out loud to himself sessions about what might have happened - people just don't do that. Hasn't this writer not heard of inner dialogue? Then there are the back stories for incidental characters. You don't need them, certainly not in a novella of this length. And the dialogue 'tics'; a Californian surfer type might call people 'man' and 'dude' but not in every sentence. The wife might call her children 'kiddo', but not every time she talks to them. I quit at about 70 per cent. Might go back to it; Kraus is a good storyteller, and has the suspense bit down to a fine art, which I imagine accounts for his success; despite my disappointment I do want to know what happens, but he needs a good professional editor, if he doesn't want to get so many less than positive reviews.

This is the first episode of the Surviving the Fall serial book. We are introduced to Rick Waters who had just landed in Los Angeles on a business trip. His wife, Diane, was at home in Virginia in their small self-sufficient homestead with their three children.

After Rick landed in LA, every internet-connected device from cars to watches began to explode, signaling an assault by unknown attackers. Now, Rick must find a way to travel home through an increasing perilous country. In the meantime, Diane and the children are discovering just how dangerous their world has become.

The author has set the scene for an exciting and suspenseful series that guaranteed my avid interest, for sure. In the interest of full disclosure, I was provided with an ARC of this first episode in return for my honest opinion, and I am honestly enjoying the heck out of this book.

Write faster, Mr. Kraus!

Fun, interesting read as are all Mike Kraus's books. Love to see the characters evolve. I can't wait to see what happens next. I was trying to describe to my husband what a good apocalyptic novel consists of, it must have a believable plot, have interesting characters, some suspense and leave you with a desire to read the next one in the series. The characters hopefully have some common sense and the writer has done their research regarding weapons, cataclysmic events and location. I read a lot of dry, business papers but when I want to unwind and switch things up, Mike comes through and I always enjoy reading his books.

So...all the cell phones and computerized cars in the world explode.

One guy is in LA when this happens. His wife and kids are in a ranch in Virginia. He wants to get back to them. And man, if there's one place I wouldn't want to be stuck during an apocalypse, it's LA.

Interesting. Fun read. Kept me entertained.

Short, though. But that's the nature of the beast in an episodic novella series like this.

One complaint was that some things seemed a little TOO convenient. Like how the main character has a self-supporting ranch in Virginia, as though he were preparing for this or something. Still, I liked it. :)
