This book was an absolute delight. I picked it up in passing at the library, finished it in a few days and had to go out and buy it and the 2nd one!! Marta Acosta is definitely an author you can sink your teeth into...no pun intended. Not your average "vampire romance" story, Mrs. Acosta takes the known vampire cliches and twists them into a more believable tale. Her character development is phenomenal. You really feel as if you are getting to know these people personally. From the busty, beautiful lead Milagro, to the handsome love interest Oswald, to the pushy, yet sarcastically witty grandma Edna, to the devilishly sexy & sly lover Ian Ducharme. I have to say, Ian would make me swoon. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ending was not wrapped up in a nice little package. It left the story line wide open for more. I cannot wait to read what comes out next from this tantalizing author!

Happy Hour at Casa Dracula was entertaining. I enjoyed reading it enough that I had to get the next in the series, however it wasn't exceptional.

I always find reading the first book in a series that I judge it harsher then when I am already invested in the characters. Can I become invested in these characters, I believe I can which is why I went out and got the next in the series. However, I read MARKED by PC Cast right after this one and I find that I want to read more about that series vs this one.

I look forward to seeing what more comes in this series.

This is truly a fresh and funny novel. Marta Acosta's voice is mischievously wry, and her heroine, Milagro de Los Santos grabbed my attention right from the get-go. No ho-hum chicklit is this, but rather a darkly hilarious read that had me mwa ha ha'ing with delight. I'm neither Latina nor typically a fan of vampire stories, but I loved this book!

This novel wasn't exactly what I expected, but it was really a fun read. The vamps aren't dead -- they have a genetic condition, real jobs, regular houses, and a fondness for cocktail parties. Milagro, the heroine, meets attractive Oswald at a party and a small cut results in Milagro becoming infected. Her former boyfriend tries to kidnap her because he thinks she's a vampire and she has to hide with Oswald and his family at their country house. Fast, clever banter, fascinating characters, and laugh out loud writing. Milagro is a marvelous heroine and I fell in love with the vampire family.

I am not a person who would normally gravitate towards a book whose title elicits imagery of blood-sucking and booze. A friend sent me "Happy Hour at Casa Dracula", and from the moment I started to read this genius book of fun, I was hooked! Marta Acosta has written a witty, tongue-in-cheek romantic comedy which closely parallels Jane Austen's "Mansfield Park". This is NOT a paranormal romance, but rather a sultry, satirical romp which takes the reader along for the fun. I can only hope that some astute producer options this book for a movie! I cannot recommend "Casa Dracula" highly enough!

I was laughing constantly as I read about Milagro, a graduate of a Fancy University, F.U., and her adventures with a dangerous ex-boyfriend and a sexy, mysterious stranger, Oswald. A passionate kiss from Oswald and Milagro accidentally becomes infected with a weird illness. Milagro is off and running for her life, and has to stay in the country with Oswald's unusual family who keeps telling her there's no such thing as vampires. Great one-liners, sensual romantic encounters, and a snobby family of the undead make this a good book to take on vacation. I loved this book!

Refreshingly clever and witty. Interesting premise.
Easy to relate to, The characters won my heart.
Couldn't put down. Cheering our heroine on was mandatory.
Will be to sure to follow this new series.
You won't be sorry.

I discovered this book a few days ago after finding Marta's blog Vampire Wire. (She posts a lot about the show Supernatural, which I love.) I read it in one night--I couldn't put it down. She took all the wit and humor of Virgins and The Memoirs of Bambi Goldbloom and added vampires. It's a winning combination, and I wholeheartedly recommend Happy hour at Casa Dracula.

If you enjoy witty dialoque and a well drawn character you will truly love this novel. Marta Acosta weaves a well-plotted tale with elements of the supernatural. The comic elements of the book will have you laughing and remind you of a great Jane Austin book. This is a great choice for a holiday gift. This book is highly entertaining!

In addition to all the really funny zingers, the author has created some living characters who make this more than a spoof. I finished the book saddened that my new acquaintances were not going to be in my head anymore. I hope the author revisits them in her next books. Looking forward, anyhow, to whatever hilarity follows.

The Latina heroin just got on my nerves, the hero was the most submissive vampire I had the disgrace to experience and the story is just stupid and absolutely not funny. This is the first and the last book I will buy from Marta Acosta , I absolutely dislike her style.

In spite of attending "Fabulous University", an Ivy League school, Milagro de Los Santos has not been able to find steady work since she graduated and her string of loser boyfriends would be the support characters of beach novels. Her friend Nancy turns Milagro into a "reading consultant", which led to four degrees of connection to writer Sebastian Beckett-Witherspoon, who was one of her beach buddies at F.U. At the soiree Milagro meets Oswaldo Krakatoa as both hate Witherspoon's pretentious book. Later at the Croft Hotel where he is staying, he bites Milagro in the neck.

Not long after that a bewildered Milagro is kidnapped by Sebastian only to be rescued by Oswaldo, who takes her to the safety of his family at their ranch. Milagro finds her new friends warm though strange, but is upset that her new boyfriend Oswaldo has a fiancée. However, as she knows she must return to her rat infested apartment, Milagro concludes that the only way she and the man make that male she loves to be together forever, is for her to Bridge the gap of "I Love the Night Life" at Casa Dracula.

Marta Acosta has written one of the best vampire romances in several years as she refreshes the sub-genre theme with terrific twists that keep the audience on edge wanting to learn more about the attendees at HAPPY HOUR AT CASA DRACULA. . Milagro is a superb protagonist with her amusing chick lit asides that will remind the audience of Love at First Bite with her as Susan Saint James' Cindy Sondheim and Oswaldo as George Hamilton's Count Vladimir Dracula. The fast-paced story line never slows down until the final bite occurs

Thank goodness I got this book from the library!!!! If I had wasted money to buy, I would be furious. The story...what story, the plot...ok what plot....., the characters....ok, who cares, I finally gave in and skipped to the last chapter and was still..well words fail. Well you get the drift. Purchase at your own risk. You want serious vampire, hot books, plots, try the J.R.Ward series, perfect. And anything by Shelly Laurenston, although her work is not vampire, it is great. Also Christine Warren is great. Have a great read, just now with this book.
