I recently read Atlantis Found and I think Inca Gold is much better. Yes, Pitt is still the superman Indiana Jones and of course him and his almost equally superhuman girlfriend save the day. But this time the bad guy was just someone who had a billion dollar operation in the illegal antique buisness and had nothing to do with nazi's. Now this bad guy I can deal with, and this book I actually finished so hey it is an improvement. This book may be great for some readers, but it is not for me. I think i will give up on this arthur for a while until I run out of books to read. But if you are a Pitt fan I would say this is one of the better ones.

Why do you read a book of fiction? Hopefully for enjoyment! Let the mind unload away from a tv. Too many of these reviewers seem to forget that. This book, and all in the series are excellent escapes to a world of action and wonder. Think of escaping to different areas around the globe, and always coming out the hero! That's what you get from Cussler's books. He peels away the blandness of life and gives you a kick in the rear! I'd hate to see people miss out on his works because of some of these reviews. Entertaining fiction rarely gets better.

Clive Cussler has once again proved his talent as a storyteller in his book Inca Gold. The book does not waste any time grabbing the readers' attention due to Cussler throwing his infamous character Dirk Pitt into it. Pitt goes on a wild adventure that leads him from the highs of the Andes to the jungles of the the stores all the way to an underground river in New Mexico. The plot centers around Pitt in a race with a wealthy art smuggling family named the Zolars to find "the golden chain of Huascar", a treasure buried by the Incas that is said to be worth so much that it would put King Tuts treasure to shame. The writing of this novel was well researched, adding to the overall effect the story had on the reader. Although it was fictional, Cussler made it as close to the real truth as he could. Some events needed to be changed (like the fact there was no hidden treasure of Huascar) because with out this event, there would have been no story. He also stayed pretty close to how actual Incan cultural was back in 1500's. Cusslers' strong cast of members including a congresswoman, an art detective, and two other adventure crazed friends of his. Clive Cussler even put himself in as a bartended in a little deserted highway diner who tells Pitt where the treasure is really hidden, as he believes. As each party searching for the lost treasure gets nearer, the Zolars start to get dirty by trying to kill Pitt and all of his companions and by also paying off the local government officials to look the other way while they kill Pitt and take all of the gold. In the end, the final contest is who is the smartest. Inca Gold is an extraordinary book that is impossible to put down. It was a detailed, well written book. Dirk Pitt never seems to stop, and as a result, neither does the reader.

Inca Gold Clive Cussler Archway Paper Back 1998 Dirk Pitt is a man that loves action. He is an officer on a marine ship. His best friends, Al Giordino and Dirk, arrive in Mexico were they hear the legend of the INCA GOLD. They soon set out on the journey of their lives. As they walk into the terrain of Canyon Ometepec, they find a map that supposedly shows an underground river that will lead them to the gold. As they walk to the X, Dirk falls into a trench were he finds the river and what looks like a Viking ship. Al calls down to him Òare you OK!Ó ÒYesÓ he replies, come down hereÓ Al lowers a rope. ÒThis must be the river,Ó Dirk replies with an astonished look on his face. They walk over to the ship and set sail. About half a mile down the river the boat hits some rapids and is tossed about like a rag doll. Then it docks on shore. Al and Dirk climb off the ship then two criminals jump out from behind a rock, grab the map and run! Can Dirk get to them before they get to the gold? This was a great book and I would encourage any young reader who like action, suspense and mystery to read Clive CusslerÕs Inca Gold. By Spencer

This was an entertaining read and a nice diversion. I was given this book to read by my mother in-law along with several others by Clive Cussler. I am easily drawn in by anything with an archaeological or historical theme and this seemed to fit. This book remained well researched with a decent amount of over the top action to keep you interested. I'm sure I will be borrowing more from her as she purchases all of the Dirk Pitt books. Great for anyone who likes adventure books

very good action adventure with a rollicking setpieces of action, i particular like the bit in the well where pitt dives into.great story too, though, the pace is scuppered slightly by too much talking in the middle. nevertheless, its hairraising adventure all the way.And to reviewers who think who think this meaningless, please lighten up, as this is supposed to be escapism adventure.and to the achaercologist review who says there's no achaerlogist in real life acting as spies, and that there shouldnt be any in inca gold, please try to understand this is FICTION and in fiction anything goes.if you want reality, go and read tesla: man ou of time or something.

To be honest, I was skeptical of reading this book. I thought that it would be like one of those romance novels you see at the checkout line. How wrong I was! The plot, characters, and adventure are fantastic! Since reading this, I have read every other book by Cussler. That is how incredible this book is! PS: If you read and love this book then try Cyclops next, you'll love it!

Inca Gold is probably one of Cussler's best novels ever. It contains all the usual elements that have made Cussler so popular. It's pretty hard on the mind at first (The outlandish plot and dense melodrama makes even the least cynical cringe), but once you get used to it, you realize that those elements just make the story more enjoyable. A perfect book for the beach.

This was my first endeavor into the Dirk Pitt series and it still rates as one of my favorites. As with all the books, you must suspend your desire for reality and simply enjoy the ride, knowing that Dirk and Al will win over all odds in the end. In Inca Gold, Dirk and Al take on a syndicate trying to get away with the long-lost Inca treasure. The adventures in the ancient sacrificial pool and Dirk's travel down the underground river were fantastic fun. I enjoyed Cussler's guest appearance, and the larger roles Loren and Rudi played in this book. If you truly want to have a few days of enjoyable, escapist reading, you won't go wrong with Inca Gold.

No wait, that was just one of Cusslers' other books. After reading two or three of his books, Cussler's plots are easily predicted. Suken ship/ airplane, classic car, beautiful woman, ect. This book did little more than seal the coffin of my interest in his books. Thus is the fate of books written solely to make money...

I had never read anything but romance books, as soon as I read Inca Gold I was hooked on adventure books. I have since read every Dirk Pitt Book & Sea Hunters, and am waiting for Clive Culsslers next book. He has a great imagination and his books always have twist and turns you don't expect!

Inca Gold was a dramatic book. It begins when Shannon Kelsey and Mile Rogers get stuck in a sinkhole and Dirk Pitt plus Al Giordino must save them. Then Tupac Amuru kidnapps them. From mountain climbing to having to go in a river under a desert with a broken arm. Trying to get hold of the Inca treasure was amazing. Good Book!

Of all the adventures that Dirk Pitt has had, Inca Gold is arguably his best. Underground rivers, vast crime syndicates, bulletts flying, and a tequila on ice. Beautiful women, fighting for Dirk, classic cars, evil villains, the quintessential American dream of a novel.

Not the best Dirk Pitt adventure. Easily 150-200 pages too long. Too many characters, not enough character development, especially with the beautiful archaeologist.
Stealing Inca treasure! ! A little too esoteric for me. The climactic ride through the underground river read to me like a fun amusement park ride.
To those first time Dirk Pitt readers who thought this was the best. You are in for a treat, read them all. I've read five and this was by far the worst one. However, it was actioned packed and fun to read. Just wait until you read the others; Treasure was my favorite so far. Presently devouring Flood Tide.

I cannot see how so many people have gotten hooked on this guy's writing. It is obviously geared to juvenile tastes (and I have no problem with that), but he is being sold as a 'serious' writer. Predictable plot, predictable characters, predictable outcome. Boring!

Inca Gold is pure action-packed entertainment that is appealing to all readers. This book is swashbuckling adventurous fun with great twists and inventive situations. Inca Gold has adventure, light romance, cunning and no heavy technical info to slow down the exciting pace. A central villainous character gets his due in a way that will make you want to cheer! Inca Gold is a quintessential beach read (or savored when you don't have to put the book down to return to the real world any time soon)! Looking for a great book to whisk you away to exciting lands and action? Then this book is for you. Enjoy!

Well, from the very beginning, there's action of sorts. The action continues on throughout the whole novel, with some very silly violence thrown in when Dirk Pitt meets Tupac Amaru. A lot of violence in this book compare to Shock Wave (I read Inca Gold before Shock Wave, FYI). The plot is rather predictable, especially if you read the back cover first, but that's mostly covered up by the action and the sometimes hilarious dialogue. Pretty good.

Of course, Karl May wrote 120 years ago and created the hero Apache Chief Winnetou who was the idol of every joungster in Germany when I grew up; we loved the American Indians for their bravery in their struggle against homicide by the western Christians and their mass murder weapons with gun powder against the natives of this continent. Clive Cussler brings the old struggle back to life with Dirk Pitt on a dangerous treasure hunt of ancient riches. Great reading. Why? Mr. Cussler is a master of the English language and it is delightful to read his style of language not to mention his art of suspense.

Clive Cussler at his best. This a another book with a gripping plot and suspensefull story. Cussler is great at piecing together all of the little elements to form a conclusion that is full of imagination. Hats off to Cussler.

On the negative side, the events that occur seem rather unbelievable in parts and some statistics are fully fabricated. This book is a definite library pick but I would be hesitant to buy.

This is an airplane book, pure and simple. But when it comes to fast-paced, edge-of-your seat reading, you can't get much better than this. Better, by far, than the most recent Dirk Pitt entries, this one is a keeper!

Once again, Cussler has done it. I've been reading Cussler's books for a while now. The first being "Raise The Titanic" and most recently Shockwave. Cussler's style is one of the best, and Inca Gold is no disappointment. A throughly great read, and a worthy adventure for Dirk Pitt.

This was the first Clive Cussler book I ever read and it got me addicted. I thought it was excellent. The main character, Dirk Pitt, is a cross between James pond, Indiana Jones, and Jacque Cousteau. The story was full of action from the beginning to the end. I think it would make an awesome movie.

This book is filled with lots of great excitement and adventure. Just when you thought it was over something else amazing happened. You know every character even if they played a small role. There was adventure on every turn. Amaru was a perfect bad guy and Pitt and Al were a great team.I'm definately going to read all the other Clive Cussler books.
