First read was good but it was a little confusing because the side bars were skeleton and not related to the primary story. Second read was better after reading the rest of the stories. Will probably come back for a third read after reading the side series. Would recommend this for any fan who isn't a hard case liberal.

This is a good intro to the Aldenata series. John Ringo introduces aliens and future tech right at the amazing fantasy/you gotta be kidding boundary. The development of the war is well crafted and highlights Ringo's deep appreciation of military matters. The language is teen-level and the plot is simple but the story has enough threads to both entertain and set up scenarios for future novels. I liked it enough to buy the rest of the series.

This book really starts off slow. I thought it was a dud and was just about to put it down. Then it suddenly came on like gangbusters. The next one in the series is "Gust Front" is even better with non stop action.
Live Free or Die: Troy Rising I :: The Hot Gate (Troy Rising) :: The Last Centurion :: Tiger by the Tail (Paladin of Shadows) :: Strands of Sorrow (Black Tide Rising)

This book is well written, but John Ringo seems to have a pretty grim view of humanity and the universe we live in. HIs view may be more realistic than most, but I don't find his books very enjoyable.

Since finding "Ghost" at the beginning of summer, reading the several DIFFERENT SF/ military series that author John Ringo has written, has been an exciting adventure. I have several librarians working trying to keep up with finding each next book thus now I must rely on my Kindle to fill in the blanks

This story has it all, a pending alien invasion, corrupt and incompetent leaders in DC, and a wise-ass but loveable hero.
I have read this book several times in both paper and electronic formats. I seem to discover something new every read due to the depth of the story and characters. This is a must read for science fiction fans. Ringo belongs in the same circles as Asimov and Bradbury!

I liked this book and look forward to reading more in the series. Characters were good, although he's got a thing against officers it seems. Action was fairly clear and overall was plotted well. Interesting concept that makes more sense than mankind fighting aliens a hundred years from now with the same sensibilities.

Great read, wish would have saved it for vacation by the pool.
Good characters and pacing. I don't have any military experience
But friends and relatives have told similar stories.
I will be looking into getting more for my next trip

Robert Heinlein meets Tom Clancy. Nonstop reading thrills.
You will miss sleep, miss meals and be late for work. You won't get much done til you finish this book as you'll drift off wondering what's going to happen next. Be prepared for a unique read. Ringo raises the genre a quantum leap. Buckle on your swashes, lock and load, and put on your safety harness. This is a ride you won't forget.

An interesting concept with decent execution. The characters are pretty typical for this type of story and hence aren't terribly memorable. It's a fast read, so I don't feel I had my time wasted. This is the first book in a lengthy series, but it stands by itself pretty well. The ending doesn't require one to read any further in the series.
For some reason, I don't enjoy books (as much) that are part of a pre-planned series. I'm not sure why, perhaps I feel preyed upon or taken advantage of. The author/publisher is effectively saying: "In order to achieve closure for all of the characters/plots you've grown interested in, you're going to need to buy all 31 volumes of the series."

This is a book i originally bought from the publisher's web site years ago and recently read again. It is currently a free Kindle download.
Its a fun read.
What it is not is believable military SF or interstellar politics.
It does have a lot of interesting high tech gadgets that are a combination of off world technology and Terran ingenuity.
Earth agrees to supply cannon fodder for the war against the invading Posleen who are rapidly taking over the galaxy in exchange for galactic technological help in fighting off the invaders.
The military tactics are designed for a good read and not for winning any wars though, so if that bothers you, maybe this is not a good series for you to be reading.

Ringo writes about characters we all want to be like.
He creates the soldiers we all want to be. Many are flawed, yes...but all have the ironclad sense of honor, duty, and responsibility each soldier, sailor, airman, and marine strive for. Excellent read!
